The campaign is short but extremely polished and clearly directed at helping set the stage for the rest of the content and also help teach first time guardians the ropes of the game.

Environments draw you into a sense of wonder at the scale of buildings, ships, and vistas stretching into the distance. I often found myself forgetting the task at hand as I wandered into a new area, mesmerized by the landscape.

The end-game content is what has sold me on Destiny deserving high marks. Adventures, post campaign quests, even patrols and public events, continue to build out the story and immerse you in a world full of creativity and intrigue. Each piece of content uses familiar mechanics with just enough subtle variations on the gameplay approach to make things feel fresh and exciting. Nothing was particularly difficult, but I did find myself dying here and there in various encounters, forcing me to adjust my approach and adapt to the AI's playstyle.

Complaints swirl around "microtrasactions" but I did not find them to be anything close to a "pay to win" scenario. The things you can buy are almost exclusively cosmetic and, through leveling up or getting bright engram drops, can be acquired freely by playing the game, making the microtransactions a nonissue. Additionally, if you do happen to get armor pieces from the engrams, they drop at minimal light with no mods, so you'll still need to get light level appropriate fodder and strong modifications to apply to it; to me, this was a more than fair way to include an income stream for the game without breaking the balance of the core design of the leveling system.

As for the almost universal concern about shaders, I was similarly put off by the new consumable nature rather than the tried and true hot swap system of D1. But after experiencing the new system over the past few days, I found something I didn't expect: I started to take pride in collecting stashes shaders that I liked and cared about. In Destiny 1, shaders were a dime a dozen and I really only ended up caring about 1 or 2 of them, then forgot about it for the rest of the few hundred hours I put into the game. With D2, finding where a particular shader would drop gave me an instant jolt of excitement as I knew where I'd invest my time to build up a good stockpile of a shader I'd want to apply to my gear. It promotes continued participation in content rather than the 1-and-done style of the old system. I am a converted fan and I recommend guardians give it a chance.

With Destiny 2, Bungie has proven their dedication to making incredible game experiences.

Farming the same content you just completed in under 24hrs. Over and over and over and over again. All of this is just gameplay errors. I could tear apart the games story, copied graphic design, or pay to win currency but I've wasted enough time with this crappy game so I wont. Just leave you with this, the developers robbed every person that bought this game and are happy doing so. Expand

This is a MMO masquerading as a single player experience. Every NPC talks about how special you are and how you are the only one that can help, which is hard to believe when there are dozens of other players running around you that were told the same thing. If I had been looking for a multiplayer experience, my score would be higher, but the single player experience is disappointingly lacking.

Improvement on every level. If you were disappointed by D1, but like the core game play mechanics and idea of the game, I'd wager you'll love D2. Much more fleshed out product. Years of fine tuning the product are evident. A must own for any console owner who loves FPS.

This game is a solid 10/10 for many reasons. The first is the sheer amount of content you are getting. The game is at least 30 to 60 hours of gameplay across one character. If not more. There are raids, pvp, and other features that are there to do weekly so you'll keep coming back like a lot of MMOs. Overall, the story is great, front to back , and very interesting. The game itself has all of its lore baked into the game now unlike D1. This is a shooter, so keep this is in mind, not an MMO. Some people want RPG, this isn't totally an RPG. This is a SHARED WORLD SHOOTER WITH MMO ELEMENTS. If you are looking for an MMORPG, please, look to WoW or something else. The controls are great, and the game looks very impressive at 4K with 30FPS. I know "PC Master Race" and the "Church of unlimited frames" people will balk, but overall, for a console game this is literally eye-popping visuals and looks. Most PC players won't even crack 4K with 30FPS unless they have spent $3,000 on their PC. The PS4 Pro is $399 and a 4K TV is $600, or so. I'm thoroughly satisfied, and about to start up my Titan, and I'm a hunter main. I intend on a Warlock play through at some point, but overall I'm impressed with this title. It will be the only game I play for months, and for $60 you cannot beat that. I bought the digital deluxe edition and pre-ordered, and watch it closely since it was announced. I was skeptical, but no, this is the game a good FPS player is looking for. This is the game where you sit back with your friends, pop open a beer, and just have a great night of chat and gunplay. They take over the city, capture the traveler, and take away your powers (or light as everyone calls it). But by some miraculous chance you find a fragment of the traveler outside the city and get your powers back, so it is now up to you to fight against the cabal and take back the city.

A good story but very cliche. I never really liked MMO's to be honest because the game never treats itself like one. As you play the story you meet up with Zavala, Ikora, and Cayde-6 and they treat your character like he is the only guardian left when there are thousands wandering the worlds. Nevertheless, I enjoyed playing through it much more than the first game.

Engrams in this game don't need to be deciphered unless they are legendary (purple) or exotic (yellow). Common (white), uncommon (green), and rare (blue) can all be equipped once picked up. Loot is done better in this game as well.

The only things I really didn't like were the fact I didn't get my sparrow til after I beat the whole campaign, so if you pick this game up you will be walking from one location to another for a majority of the game unless you find an abandoned enemy vehicle.

The crucible was also something that was a disappointment. Instead of having game modes to pick from, you pick either quickplay or competitive and it puts you in a random game mode. This works for games like Overwatch but not this game. Players always leave when they get a mode they don't like.

Ships still serve 0 purpose other than to be eye candy during loading screens. I mean seriously if you are not gonna have space battles then do not bother wasting valuable time on stuff like that when you could be using it to make a better game. I don't know why Bungie didn't think to just use teleporters or even something like a Stargate to move us around from planet to planet with loading screens in between.

So Destiny 2 is an okay game but needs some work done on it. So get on it Bungie!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. destiny 1 was bad, but this, this is a lilttle better. the game gets good when you get on the ending, but are you sure you want to waste lots of days of your life to get to the good content. btw, the content is still not good, but its satisfatory if you really like shooters, which i do.

now to the bad points - this is based on bungies previous achievements and other great fps games.
1- the story campaing is terrible- nothing really feels like happens, i sometimes got bored and turned on my tv, i used to play d1 while watching tv by how interesting and engaged it was.... this was irony.,
2 - nothing happens in the story, --- oh, the city and plot blows up, but who cares, nobody dies really, the closest thing you see of an emotional shot is some bots being destroyed.... really **** in the game i felt more interested in stopping playing and go read something
3 - theres not many fun moments in the main plot - its all so repetitve and easy it gets boring, the only good thing is the scenery in some missions and patrols and driving a tank, but thats it.
4 - shooting is only fun in the harder dificulty missions, which they basically removed, but now there is only the strikes, the nightfalls and the raid, i wish there was no stupid time-investment bull**** to get me there, thats the only good thing in the game, in the previous game all missions had a hard versions FFS
5 -patrols is still barely interesting - one questgiver, some missions and public events, nothing much, some are very repetitive, some are good, and some patrols are so bad, IO and Nessus are basically the same ****ty place, IO(i think thats the last map or is it Nessus) is just a **** terrible labyrinth of rocks
6 - the community sucks - lots of people faking that they like it because some part of their income is related to destiny fanatics.
7 - pvp became more boring - less variety and more repetitve encounters, dont misunderstand, its a tight game of skill, but thats it, the fun game that existed before in d1 got canned

Destiny could have been more, but as a sequel, its a disappointment who thought Bungie would do a good job.

But if you never played destiny 1 , rent this game or borrow a copy from a friend. if you cant do neither dont bother, just go play something good or wait for d3.

Besides, finally there will be some competition for the market, hopefully that will make Bungie stop screwing around

Roaming about with my friends and shooting aliens in Strikes (self-contained short-stories with unique environments) and public events (short missions that spawn in the open environments) is fun on par with Diablo 3's "grind for loot so you can grind faster".

The campaign is short and straightforward; this isn't a choose-your-own-adventure RPG. I was told whats happening and what I was supposed to do, and I went and did it. It feels more like a prologue, and the snippets of lore I learn while playing strikes and exploring the world provides more insight.

I keep seeing pay-to-win thrown around here. I'll lay it out, and you can make up your own mind. You can buy a Bright Engram (basically loot crates) with real money and there's a chance you can get some gear mods which do impact gameplay. Those SAME mods can be bought with glimmer (the in-game currency) from a merchant. In both cases, what you get is random (and in fact, the loot crate has a chance of not containing a mod at all). You also get a Bright Engram every time you level up and it has the same items potentially available as the ones you buy. You can 'dismantle' items from Bright Engrams, bought or earned, and receive a special currency that can be used to directly buy featured items (cosmetic or otherwise) each week.

I enjoyed Destiny 1. Loved the art design, loved the gameplay and D2 is more of the same. There's a lot of people out there and everyone of them seems to have a different definition of what Destiny was supposed to be. For me, it's always supposed to have been fun, and it's that.

I Played D1 for quite a while, once I got the majority of everything I wanted from raids I would play Trials. There is a reason Overwatch got game of the year... Awesome Story, Patches thing regularly !Listens to the damn players!, and Oh! what do ya know? all free DLC! AGAIN GET WITH THE PROGRAM, Paying for the Queens DLC was just a reiskin of quests you already had, Whos brilliant idea was it to say, "Oh! lets take a quest, make all the enemies another color, and sell it as new content!." If you ask me keep micro transactions for people to make their character look cooler, like armor skins and weapon skins, or dope ass emotes, but not engrams. Stop listening to share holders and start listening to the damn players. Overwatch was so good if they make a game about pigs riding ponies in the amazon I will probably buy it because it will have free DLC's and a good story line. Are you taking notes Bungie? Expand

Piece of advice to those slapping on zeros, nobody is going to realistically take your review seriously.

This game is solid. Real score from me is a 7.8/10. First off, I hated the original. It made me angry beyond all belief. However this sequel has a coherent story, great coop play, and is over all a pretty full package as compared to it's predecessor. The beginning of this game really gives you a reason to fight and personally made me very interested in Gaul and his motivations. I hear raids and other game elements are on the way so no body panic. The campaign will definitely keep me busy playing it over again a couple times especially with friends! There isn't much else to say except it's a fun and large improvement over the first.

Overall if anything coming out of my gob has peaked your interest in the slightest, I would recommend you at the very least give the game a shot, maybe during a sale or trial. Thanks for tolerating my incoherent ramblings.

The game mechanics have been developed a lot further and enhanced with a superb user interface and visual design that is a joy to play within. The 3 years of development for the original has informed this new game engine and it is absolutely joyous to explore and lose yourself in this incredible world.

The myriad collection of gameplay styles to tackle is amazing - from planetary patrol missions, to pure environmental exploration, team based strikes & raids, secret weapon quests and lore based adventures to all out multiplayer warfare there's something for whatever mood you're in and you are always earning or upgrading something on your character.

Bungie's exceptional talent for creating amazing environments simply gets better every year. This is simply the best online shooter on console and essential for every gamer to try. Definitely my Game of the Year and I can't wait to jump into the future expansions.

Bravo Bungie you knocked it out of the stratosphere!

Very good soundtrack, detailed ambiance and fun combat.

Unlike D1, there is probably something here for most people, though not everyone will sink 300 hours into it. And that is ok.

The only thing preventing this from being a 10 is the expectancy that DLCs will make the game unplayable unless you keep paying Bungie. That is a big problem.

I am gonna be honest, at launch destiny 2 archived what destiny 1 couldn't in three years... make me proud of this game
Let's start with the story, it was great, fun, well written and told. Characters were very good, with personalities and goals. One bad part about it was a weak exposition of the vanguards crises, they exposed it very well tbh, but the exposition we had to this crisis was pretty short (we only had it present in 1-2 missions per character). The mission design was marvelous, all mission didn't feel empty like D1's defend the objective missions, the last four missions are a blast, and the last one is incredible. All of them gave me a sense of progress, epicness and victory by the end. Also cutscenes were superb, and ghaul was a really strong antagonist withheld defined objectives and motivations
Destiny 2 's post campaign activities feel very nice. Public events, strikes, lost sectors, adventures, world quest, exotics, and the clever reputation system gave me a reason to get back to every beautiful destination and play for hours its activities
Strikes got a big improvement from D1, now bosses are not as bullet spongy as the first one, but they still pack a punch. Not only that but all of them have some sort of mechanic, although some are only aggressive move mechanics that the boss uses throughout the fight, there are still some pretty good ones.
The leveling system is really good this time around. It feels rewarding to infuse weapons and get them now, and feels really good to level up, although after lever 265 it feels really grindy to level up, the game activities could still pull me into farming
Nighfals are Back with new modifiers and great challenges, divided into two modes, normal and prestige, the new raid is coming September 13 th, we have high expectations for it, and we have milestones to give us a direction of what to do to get more endgame loot
The loot system has been improved, giving more rewards more often, without the presence of three of
    Coins
The crucible( pvp) is back now 4 V4 with 2 playlists: quickplay, which relays on a connection based matchmaking priority, that focus on enjoyable and casual matches; and competitive mode, where two teams are put competitively against each other. An endgame mode for pvp, called trials of the nine will be constituted of crazy compatível matches against other players, in one of the competitive modes, the team who wins the game gets points in a passage, that if gets fully completed without loses, gives the players an insane amount of the best loot available in the game
PVP fells casual and balanced, fun and rewarding, even if you are not into PvE, the crucible will still give you ways of reaching max power level

    Thx for reading
And thank you bungie for this game

    Cons:
In the process of adding things Bungie for some reason removed some of the good things from D1..i.e. hard mode level as you level up
Supers are just flat out boring...nothing new and in fact outside of their signature moves all the supers feel dumbed down (albeit i've only played on a Titan so far)
Shaders...don't even get me started on Shaders
Your Ghost does all the talking
Scanning stuff that's supposed to give out lore...is just a complete waste of time...there doesn't seem to be a purpose behind it outside of just hearing your Ghost trail on

The game is not to much of a disappointment and it is still early...comparing apples to apples btwn D2 and D1 releases...D1 can't shake a stick at D2. I can't help but feel that some (if not most) of what's in D2 should've been in D1...but ahh well. Good game, leveling is boring...but still better then D1.

However as someone new to the game I'm very impressed with what the team did with this game. Most notably the shooting feels great. The different abilities are all very well done and are something you don't see in other shooters. I'm probably most impressed with the lighting here, especially interiors. I thought after the beta that they focused only on the first missions but the lighting looks amazing throughout. Even when playing with other players. This impressed me throughout the game. It looks incredible when players are using their flashlights in dark areas.

For me there are less negatives and more just missed opportunities. Knowing what this team has done with the Halo franchise I'm disappointing in the lack of vehicles. The shooting feels amazing but it'd be nice to take a break and use vehicles for combat. They're used very sparingly in the campaign and then are missing from anything else I've done so far. Also, there are no flying vehicles. The fact they're using a ship to get from planet to planet you would think there would be something that could be used for combat.

In terms of multiplayer I really like the game play and modes. I think 4v4 works well here . However, I think it would be amazing to throw in some enemy NPC's into the mix. Something similar to Titanfall. I think that would be a great blend between PVP and PVE.

Overall the game is a ton of fun and from a technical standpoint is very impressive. The worlds are all huge and hopping between them is very fast. For the scope of this game I thought the limited load times is something all games should strive for. If you're on the fence about buying it I highly recommend the game. It's not perfect but I think it does so much right and different that it would be a shame to not give it a try.

Destiny 1 at its peak with the Rise of Iron expansion was a masterpiece and a shining example of how properly implemented expansions can turn an otherwise mediocre game into a fantastic experience.

Destiny 2 takes the Destiny 1 formula, gives us the same great gunplay, improves the story and gives us one of the most memorable soundtracks in recent memory, then completely ruins it by skipping out on the fantastic quality of life changes, game modes and huge amount of player choice that made Destiny 1 so great. The huge variety in weapon perks that kept players coming back even after maxing their characters out to look for that perfect god roll is gone. Strikes have been reduced to a random playlist only and can't be individually selected, not that you'll do any because their rewards are more easily earned via quicker public events, strike scoring and strike specific loot are both gone. The nightfall, once one of Destiny 1's most challenging activities has been given a timer and reduced to a glorified speedrun mode. And to top it all off their newest raid the leviathan is an incredible looking raid ruined by some of the most puzzling and tedious raid design decisions I've seen in any MMO.

The puzzling design cuts also extend into PvP, with all matches limited to 4 versus 4 only, and all matches limited to two random playlists meaning players now can’t select the kind of matches they enjoy. Players petitioned bungie for months back in Destiny 1 for custom PvP matches and were ecstatic when there request was finally granted, this is now gone for Destiny 2. Players also asked bungie back in year 1 of Destiny 1 to separate PvP and PvE modes to facilitate balancing and to prevent PvE players being forced into PvP, this has not been done and has in fact been worsened by forcing PvE players to go through 10 PvP matches per week if they want to maximize their power level gains for the week.

In conclusion, Destiny 2 is fantastic until you hit level 20, then it becomes a hollow shell of its former self. The game feels like the team that made it were completely oblivious to the progress Destiny 1’s team made during its expansions especially with regards to the endgame.

After spending well over 50 hours in the new MMO-RPG-FPS that is Destiny 2, I decided to make a review as many people and Youtubers seem very divided on how good of a game it actually is; what it strengths and weakness's are.

For one, let me just say that Bungie has chosen 3 very different genres to turn into a game, and many people choose to only like one of these. A very common example would be comparing a Call of Duty player to a World of Warcraft player, where Call of duty is a very fast paced game with relatively simple concepts, you hold a trigger to shoot, a joy stick to move around and press it down to sprint. World of Warcraft is almost the polar opposite, with dozens of abilities to use, one giant map, and more items than there are hairs on your head. So, when you combine these two things, it doesn't always turn out the way you want it to, leading to a lot of mixed reviews. As of what I've noticed so far, it seems that Youtube critics seem to dislike the game, while Internet reviewers seem to think it's great. Personally, I think it's a good, but not great game that suffers from some issues that could be easily fixed.

    GAMEPLAY-

Destiny 2's gameplay is a mixed bag to say the least. it functions like most First Person
shooters should with strong MMO elements tagging along. One thing the game does great is showing a good visual progression of your guardian. What I mean by this is that when you first get to "The Farm", you look pretty beat up and are limited to a couple of weapons, but by the end, you find yourself looking like a cooler version of Batman, with many Guns and Subclasses to Impress your friends with (or just look cool in).
As for actual gameplay, it's a little weak, and can sometimes seem a little bland. I picked the hunter class, so I'm sort of used to just shooting my gun and knifing in between long ability and grenade cooldowns. When you fight enemies, they don't put up much of a fight, either. Often I will find myself wondering when the fight will be over while i'm either fighting millions of waves of enemies, or am fighting a boss with millions of health. One thing that really gets on my nerves is the fact that hip firing does less damage than aiming down sights. I found this to a not only bad feature, but also completely pointless one, by doing this, the game is punishing you for making hitting enemies more of a challenge.

    STORY-
I'll keep it brief, but destiny 2's story, sucks. While it may have been better than Destiny, I still found it quite uninteresting and hard to follow. A very brief summary would be that everything is normal on earth, until, one day a red legion full of fat dudes resembling grunts from Halo decide to take over the traveler, and strip everyone of their superpowers, until one day you suddenly are drawn to a shard of the traveler that's broken off but still works and gives you superpowers again. Zavala, a fallen gaurdian, then, instead of getting superpowers from the same place, turns you into his slave and has you do all of his **** for him, including saving literally everyone in the solar system. FIN.

    PVP-
I actually quite liked pvp in destiny 2 and found it to be my favorite part of the game, it functioned a lot better than the original and unlike a lot of games nowadays, you feel like you actually help your team by doing good. Ultimates in this game aren't overpowered, and you aren't faced against them too often. They also only come once or twice a game, causing many players to use them at ideal times, rather than right away. Power ammo could be a bit better. They have a map spawning system rather than earning it, so it can get quite annoying dealing with campers, or teamates alike.

So that's my review for destiny 2, a good game that suffers from a couple issues that could be fixed, but otherwise fun,

Destiny 2 has so many activities the replay ability is great, from strikes, to nightfall's, to the crucible, to the raid you will have a lot of fun and engaging activities to immerse yourself in. Destiny 2 has a flaw however, the multiplayer weapon balancing is not the best, and the overall variety in multiplayer modes should be the diversity of destiny 1. Destiny 2 has plenty to do tons of quests, missions, and story to explore that it becomes a great successor. The music fits the tones, and the graphics are astounding, the visual color pops out and so do the environments. Destiny 2 has some issues in multiplayer however that is not enough to have an amazing time with this game, destiny 2 is a great experience to be had and is everything destiny 1 could have been. Two: those things you can buy are strictly cosmetic, or things you will get in the game at certain points in the story, like the sparrow. So, honestly, loot boxes are a nothing burger.

First time playing through the full game, as I don't like using controllers for shooters. This game looks amazing on PC. The colors are brighter, and the textures are crisper. The depth of field is better, so you can see see more of the game world. sound is good. For example, if I fire an auto rifle in a canyon, there is reverb. Very nice.

Let's be real, though, this aint Witcher 3 levels of detail, but its nicer than console. By a mile.

The story is the usual, "The world will end unless you help" fair, but it's competent enough to be interesting the first time I played through. Good voice work, too. Wish there was more of it.

Communicating ingame is harder than it needs to be, but things like Discord solve that. It needs matchmaking for Nightfall, and the like, but I assume that is coming later. The public events are fun. The Raid is really hard the first time, requiring patience and good communication with your fire team.

    TL;DR:

This is a good shooter/ action game. Needs work on communication and more story content would be nice. Worth your time.

A huge disappointment and retreat from what was accomplished in Destiny 1. Destiny 2 was watered down, shortened, stripped of any power fantasy and retconned much of the lore/story. Do not buy.

The story, is boring, even worse than the poor dialogue provided by Dinklage.

I've only played this game for about 10 hours and it is already just so boring, a repetitive grind fest, for one time use shader's and lackluster guns that all share the same sounds from the first game.

This should have been released as a dlc as promised with the initial game or perhaps a price tag of $10.

Anyway overall it's an improved version of Destiny, not revolutionary by any means, but an amazing refinement of what Destiny is. The story is pretty good, not great or amazing by any means, the gameplay is just as fun, music is at times jaw dropping, sounds are somehow even better than the first. What they most improved are the worlds; at times I would want to do a story mission, but then get sidetracked several times over just because of how alive the worlds are.
There are some negatives, the characters could be more fleshed out, some dialogue is cheesy, shaders are now a consumable, you dont get a sparrow for a while and they have increased the relevance of micro transactions.
However these are mostly overshadowed by the positives, which equates to a surprisingly fun and really enjoyable experience that I presume will carry on for a long time.

Even if Bungie backtracks on some of these horrendous missteps, there’s evidence that the dev team is either flailing around without a clear idea of the experience they want to present, or even worse, they’re happy to offer the least amount of mediocre content possible until the player base starts pushing back. When free-to-play titles like Warframe and Let it Die seem monumentally more generous and offer vastly more entertainment value than a triple-A sixty dollar release built with a budget large enough to feed whole continents, it’s clear that something has gone horribly wrong.

It’s this sense of streamlined player experience that really defines Destiny 2. Where the first game had you grinding for hours just to experience increasingly diminishing returns, this is a sequel that trims away its processor’s frustrations, firmly putting fun first.

Destiny 2 is tough to compare to other shooters or games, but it is evidently a better title than part 1. The campaign is longer, the progression makes more sense, the structure is more satisfying and the sheen and splendor on the various planets entices even more. Destiny is comparable with its predecessor after the add-on The Taken King, and is therefore a more solid foundation for the coming months of content.
