Even if Bungie backtracks on some of these horrendous missteps, there’s evidence that the dev team is either flailing around without a clear idea of the experience they want to present, or even worse, they’re happy to offer the least amount of mediocre content possible until the player base starts pushing back. When free-to-play titles like Warframe and Let it Die seem monumentally more generous and offer vastly more entertainment value than a triple-A sixty dollar release built with a budget large enough to feed whole continents, it’s clear that something has gone horribly wrong.

A full assessment is virtually impossible at this time, especially with the raids not activated yet. But the impression after completing the story is a thoroughly good one. In terms of visuals and sound design a real beauty and improved in small mechanical details, Destiny 2 is everything you could expect.

Until then, I have Destiny 2: a game that knows exactly what it is and isn't. D2 is bigger and better than its predecessor, and it keeps me coming back with mixed expectations of better loot—and clearer expectations of a good shooting time with friends. The former is fine, but the latter is what makes me recommend Destiny 2 right now for anybody eager for the next great chat-and-shoot gaming franchise.

When I sat down to play this game I had one mission for Bungie: prove to me that Destiny 2 isn’t just another expansion. Thankfully, it turns out that Destiny 2 has listened to the fans and has taken a look in the mirror: the product is one that I –so far– thoroughly enjoy.

Bigger and better - but there's not enough genuinely new for Destiny 2 to achieve greatness. [Recommended]

To my delight, the story's at least as long as the classic Halo games I fell in love with so many years ago, and there's a whole world – four of them, in fact – to investigate with my fellow Guardians. In the depths of Nessus, Ghost has even heard tell of a planet-eating worldship and a pissed-off emperor named Calus, who might have an axe to grind with Ghaul. Sounds like we're in for a long wild ride. [Review-in-Progress]

This is clearly a high point, the highest since The Taken King launched nearly two years ago. It’s a red-carpet welcome for new players and a slightly bittersweet payoff for those of us who’ve been there from the start. Soon enough, everything will change yet again.

Bungie's blaster offers some of the best shooting on PS4, but right now, it feels more like a bumper expansion than a full-blown sequel. The Strikes are amazing, mind. [Nov 2017, p.75]

This is how Destiny 2 is panning out for me so far: like rampaging through Doom stuck in god mode, or a room full of balloons with a nail gun. Bungie's online shooter sequel for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One surpasses its predecessor in other vital ways, but sets the difficulty bar lower for reasons I can't fathom

I still want to explore that world, and maybe as I do more Adventures and Lost Sectors I'll be able to do so, but in its main campaign Destiny 2 is stubbornly, resolutely avoidant of its own themes and contradictions. It stirs from its complacency just a bit at the start, only to rock itself back to sleep listening to the percussive rhythms of combat.

I was hoping for some real mmo features but they must have to keep this game dumbed down for the masses. Why isn't there an economy wtih trading? Why is the loot so generic? Why aren't there any new classes? End-game content is spoon fed to players. Destiny is stuck somewhere in the middle of an epic FPS that is one of the most beautiful games I've ever played. And a really lame attempt at being an mmorpg... and that is what kills this game for me. It's pretty sad that the first raid isn't even up yet... not even a complete game. I was hoping there would be two or three raids open the day the game released so that players had a ton of progression to look forward to but they don't. The first raid will be completed in one day by some elite gamer crew then everyone will rinse and repeat. Then you'll be standing around town with nothing to do but kill the same **** you've always killed with much better gear then when you completed the raid... it just doesn't make sense why we have to buy the next expansion to get the next raid. Money? More then likely... There should be higher end raids that only a handful of people get into but there is not. This is a rpg made for the masses and its obviously brought down to that level because of it... that is why Destiny 2 suffers to achieve what it set out to do originally. Here's to looking forward to Destiny 3... Full Review »

They have no idea how to write a story and interesting text that is beyond the quality of Transformers. The story is so unbelievably cheesy, it hurts. All the NPCs always tell you what a great guy you are and that they never could have done it without you! For **** sake! The rest of the game is the same D1 RNG and mission grind as always. The new Tower is more interesting than the old, but you have to walk endlessly to do what you came for. In Warframe you can do most of your chores on board the ship, without loading into an MMO town. MMOs do it because you walk into a bigger world mostly seamlessly, while in D2 you still go to orbit. No walking out of the gate into the world.
I guess the raid will be great again and that is the only thing really unique and goid about Destiny. It's all about finding 5 other people playing the raid to get top tier loot. Something they blew in TTK and won't this time. Since loot is RNG, you have to do it over and over again. Pull that lever sucker! PvP was what kept me doing D1 for a long time, because it was a blast with all the super abilities, but now it's a typical primaries only fight that some other titles do better. Bungie also has still not invested in dedicated servers and uses a P2P hybrid that sucks. That's why they kept it to 4vs4 battles this time. You really only need this game, if you are a D1 addict. All in all, D2 is the same slotmachine paired with an FPS D1 was.
