Its the best rpg looter shooter game out there. The best content. You can always find yourself with something or the other to do in the game, never gets boring. Sound tracks are the best.

Review updated, my original review was a 4 when Destiny 2 came out. Since the Forsaken update I have to change this now as the game has massively improved. Forsaken has brought much better end game content, random rolls on weapons again and weapons and armour worth trying to get again.

Putting hours into the game, paying all the money for the DLC. and now people jump in, starting off instantly with everything you put a lot of hard work in for. Way to just hand your game away, bungie. Bad move.
Destiny 2 was a lesser Destiny 1. I still had fun playing it. But it wasn't as great.

On the other hand, there are some issues I have with this game. For starters, the time limit on Nightfall strikes simply adds greater frustration to the game and is a cheap way to increase the difficulty. It also makes it a requirement to have a full fireteam to complete the raids. In the first game, I was able to complete raids and strikes on my own, but that is now impossible. This is frustrating because there are not always people available to play with me, making people with a busy schedule (such as a university student) less likely to ever complete strikes or raids. The other complaint I have for this game is the fact that shaders have been turned into consumables. This is an obvious attempt at a cash grab, and there are no communities who like having things taken away from them that were available in the first game.

Other than these two complaints, this games is extremely entertaining, and I am definitely be looking forward to the upcoming expansion.

This is a review of Destiny 2 and does not take into account any DLC. Overall the base game is extremely lacking compared to the original. The gunplay is still amazing and very few FPS games are better than it.

In the sequel, Bungie opted for a "story" with a defined villain "Ghaul". I think this effort was made just to say that they have a "story". I feel like this actually hurt the campaign when trying to cater the gameplay towards the story. The campaign was very boring to play and I would've preferred the storyless campaign of Destiny 1 because its campaign was fun to play. Don't even get me started that you can't use your sparrow until you beat the story. IO is extremely boring and the missions after it.

Crucible is okay, but should not be looked as a very competitive experience and just as a gamemode made as an afterthought. The double primary meta is too slow and the flow of Crucible does not work.

The strikes are fun, but they are in no way memorable or feel like they fit in the story. In Destiny 1, they tied strikes to the story as a "final boss"/activity for the planet. For example Devil's Lair on Earth. I don't see any link to the story and unlike Destiny 1, I don't remember any of the strike bosses names.

The raid feels like a raid, but I don't think it's very good.
-Castellum is not very fun and is unnecessary. In bathers, I don't like that they force you to solo an ultra and you have to rely on others having good enough weapons to kill it themselves.
-Dogs is just completely stupid. It's very buggy and you have to rely on the finicky AI of the dogs to not see your not very smart raidmates. Then you have to rely on their weapons being good to solo a dog and kill your dog fast enough to help their out.
-Gauntlet is kind of too easy, but people for some reason can't wrap their hands around it.
-Calus feels like an actual raid encounter, but the barriers in the alternate dimension can be buggy at times.
Prestige Leviathan feels like a worthy challenge.

I would only buy this if you loved Destiny as a franchise to accept this game's misdoings. And would wait for DLC to fix the game.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The most frustrating thing about this is not how mediocre the game is, but how good it could be. Playing through the campaign offered some of the game's best moments. The diverse worlds of Titan, Nessus, and Io were fun to explore and featured some amazing scenery and music. Then there's the fighting on the Almighty, which I thought was one of the coolest parts of the game. The gunplay is pretty good, although the enemy AI isn't great, as they rely more on sheer numbers or high HP to get you. Anyway, the fun and excitement quickly dry up later on as you're revisiting the same places, grinding away for random loot. Things get old rather quickly. I also wonder how much total money one has to drop to truly get the full experience of Destiny 2. Seems like it'd be a lot. Expand

When I played Destiny 1 years ago I said at the time that it was an Excelent Multiplayer. Now, this is like the first 1 but improved noticeably. So, both game are very good. Now, when I played the first one I remember I struggled because I didn't play many shooters back then. And the guides on GameFAQs though very extensive thay dealed mostly with the game like how to progress through levels, but it didn't actually teach or give clues on how to play a shooter. So, if you are a bit like me having not much experience with shooters well I can help, but just a tiny little bit. I've written a FAQ on GameFAQs not on Destiny but on Call of Duty Black Ops 4. So, if you look there for a Blackout guide you find it under this same username. On the Weapons section I give very little comments on each weapon type. Though very little it's better than nothing especially for someone completely in the dark.

Now, that's it. I really enjoyed the game and I may update this text in the future as I plan to play the expansions including Forsaken. I'm really looking forward to it, it looks promising and I've heard that it's great indeed. So, this just covers the base game. And if you read my guide on GameFAQs please don't forget to click the "YES" button if you enjoyed it :-)

And regarding the guide that's something interesting. I love GameFAQs, but for those in need of a tutorial on how to play shooters, or any genre, like racers or RPGs you don't have that in GFAQs. So, Ihave to refer a guide for a specific game to cover the basics. I think it would be interesting if GFAQs included a section on "General FAQs". Not guides for specific games but rather guides on how to play specific game genres like a mentioned shooters, racers, RPGs, MMOs and on. I'm not sure GFAQs has that and I'm not implying I'd write those guides. It's just that when I played NFS Rivals the same happened, I needed to look elsewhere to learn how to play racing games, because I don't even have a Driver License, so I needed to look elsewhere but I still wished I never needed to go outside of GFAQs S2

Well, that's it for now. Maybe will update when finishing Forsaken but not sure if I'll play it right now. Thanks for reading and enjoy youtr Destiny as a Gamer!

Update: I have notplayed through the expansions yet, but I did the assaults and played a bit of the Leviathan Raid. I said I said that Destini 1 was an Excelent Multiplayer, and this is indeed no different. Especially the Raid where you team up with other players with Voip and are required a lot of coordination and teamwork, the likes that I've seen only in MMOs. It's definitely real fun. I'd like to applaud Bungie's take on Matchmaking, for the Raid, they designed it knowing what would it require, so definitely know what they're doing on this issue. I'm glad I finally played a game from the legendary Devs of Marathon and Halo :-) Still not sure if I'll play Forsaken right now but may further update this when I do.

They have some great additions to the game such as PVP Gambit, but normal PVP is total waste of time unless you spend your life in this game. Being at level 530 and still getting one shotted with a pistol across the map gets frustrating quick. The game is still a grind fest and you'll get tired of it quick.

Typically one of my biggest gaming pet peeves is doing the same thing over and over again but it didn’t bother me here. I definitely got caught up in the loot based grind.

This is a game that is meant to be played as a co-op experience but I played most of this game as a single player game. I didn’t even play with friends until after I played through the entire story, level 20 and probably power level around 200.

There are plenty of things to do in this game and I enjoyed them all. Between the story missions, the adventures, the public events and the Strikes. There are couple modes that I just didn’t care for. One was the Nightfall which was basically a harder strike, its okay but I didn’t like the timed aspect of the Nightfall. I like to take my time and eliminate all enemies, not run past them. There is the Crucible which is the competitive multiplayer and that’s not why I’m playing that game. Lastly, there is the Raid which is a 6 person event that takes hours to get through. I’m not very good at video games and I feel bad when I’m bringing down my team. I don’t want to be the guy who’s bringing down the team so I feel better just not doing it.

Where this game truly shines is in the combat, its the tightest shooter that I have ever played. It just feels good to shoot things in the game. I chose the Titan class because of its definitely the most defensive class. I like to be a little “tankier” so being able to put up the wall and shooter enemies over the wall definitely fit my play style. There is some platforming in the game which is okay but I just don’t like platforming in first person.

This is a game that people are going to say, “you should play with friends” and yes it is fun to play with friends but it’s not terrible playing alone either. I have no reservations to say that this is one of the best first-person shooters that I have ever played.

To be fair, many things are nice in this game, but it's like they just hired the most expensive beautician to dress up a pig, not just lipstick but mascara and eyeliner. That's it, it looks nice but everything else is just have arsed. The game play was wonderful for the length of the story, then it gets so mind numbingly boring I couldn't go on.
I have no idea why anyone would read critics reviews anymore.

I read user reviews, sift through the ones you mentioned to get to genuine reviews. ( you were wholly misleading in your review of them BTW)
I read the fan reviews and the newcomer reviews and compare their versions.
But one thing I know for sure, is that the critic reviews are either 100% BS, 90% BS, or 80%BS.
You get paid to sit and make positive reviews of all the high budget games because they won't give you access if you make a negative one.
You as a critic have every incentive to mislead and be completely disingenuous. I know why a user gives a bad or good review based on how coherent and complete their arguments are. I can trust they are genuine.
Critics need to either grow a pair, or go away.
Metacritic is the only site I trust, and I know that is the same with many of my peers.

In the end, DO NOT BUY DESTINY. It will reinforce the notion of making barely a game, dressing it up, filling it with extra fee's and ruining the industry. Do not reward this. I want this company to be an example of how bad you can fail if you treat the consumer like fools.

This has become more and more apparent to gamers in passing years with competition coming into the genre's market; the Division, Warframe, etc. Of course the most important and clear flaw with this sequel is its regression from the first game, largely due to continued mismanagement and bad decision making on the part of Bungie. Supposedly there was only an 18 month period for the rollout of the now sequel. This would explain the complete lack of content and loss of essential features that were available in year 3 Destiny 1, coming into D2. Also an over use of previous assets, reused content, no variation in enemy types, no new subclasses, and all around no justification for a new release. For any veteran Destiny player, this was not as much a surprise knowing the state that D1 was released in. The release of Destiny 2, however, was an even more egregious sin, being that Bungie had 3 years behind their belt in the form of player feedback for D1, and clear improvements made over the games lifespan. This was not a whim of ignorance, but rather a deliberate manipulation of the player base into believing that Bungie had their best interests in mind. Every action taken in making this sequel was to fatten Bungie's wallets and pull back the amount of work that the developer had to roll out, to the detriment of the player base. Coming into yr2 of D2, the game will potentially be back to its former glory after a year of catching up, Bungie being millions of dollars richer in the process. Shame on them. Expand

Once again they try to pitch the third expansion outside the season pass as the miracle cure, for just another $40... oh but this time you also will want to spend another $30 to stay relevant with the annual pass. Bringing the necessary total to keep playing the game in season 2 to $170.

After playing both expansions I can honestly say that the game still feels like a stripped down version of D1 and the changes they did make do not make up for it. Those changes have mostly been centered around player interface and ease of access to game functions. (IE not having to go to orbit for every move you wanted to make). There have been no new enemy factions and only minor changes to the ones we've had since the beginning. Along with limited re-playability as you are only allowed to re-play a handful of randomized story missions once a week. There is also a weekly cap to how high you can get your light up each week. Your light level also limits your ability to participate in certain missions and public events. They know players are getting through their small expansions too quickly so they created this wall to prolong it.

There is certainly a difference in the amount of effort being put into new content (missions, strikes, new areas) then what was done for D1. The first two expansions in D1 felt like it rounded out the base game. The last two expansions were large and really gave you a lot to do. It was the whole reason I bought into D2, but after its release along with two expansions I feel like they are just putting out content to satisfy their contract with Activision.

Criticizing the game is beating a dead horse; it suffices to say the game is boring, somehow not as good as the first, and will probably be fun to play in January of 2020. I say in the last paragraph originally that this game isn't a 2; in the past 5 months I've probably played 10 hrs and that's about 5 apiece for the DLCs - I get so bored that even half of that time I'm just playing to make sure it's as bad as I think it is...then I play basically anything else and have fun.

You know how when you used to do something wrong, and your parents would tell you "I'm not mad at you...I'm disappointed" and somehow that makes you feel worse? Well, Destiny 2 disappoints. It has such massive potential yet seems to let us down at nearly every turn.

In PvP, the game modes went from 3v3, 6v6, and 6 player all-for-one brawl, to just 4v4. Literally one game mode (and this is a trend where I describe something good from Destiny one that, for seemingly no reason whatsoever, is removed from the sequel). Strategy is centered around teamshots, which in and of itself is not necessarily bad. But with only one PvP format there's no room for developing much of a playstyle; just follow your team around and pick off enemies that stray too far from the pack - rinse and repeat. The skill curve is much lower now which I must admit is actually favorable for me because I am absolutely garbage in the Crucible.

When it comes to PvE, Destiny is a "grindy" game and always has been. However, most of the time during Destiny 1 the grind was fun and worthwhile because you would get legitimately powerful, interesting, and different gear from putting in your work. The key here to emphasize is the different loot you'd get from different activities; it actually mattered whether you were patrolling an area, doing strikes, etc. In Destiny 2 it just doesn't really make a difference. Everyone gets the same weapon 53 times, demolishes it for materials to trade in to the Gunsmith for yet another random weapon you already got 53 times.

In particular the weapon "rolls" from the first game made so much more sense and gave players a reason to stay focused on an activity. And these rolls made it ok for when you got the same weapon drop, because maybe this time it would have the stats you were looking for.

Easily the most frustrating thing about Destiny 2 is how often I'll play it and think about how the first game did something better. And I know this isn't a review of the DLC, but goodness gracious what an absolute step in the wrong direction that was. The silver lining is that Destiny 1 took a while to develop and really shine; it is possible (although hope is fading month by month...) that the game can change and grow into the experience we were all looking for in the first place.

I have to explain I'm giving this a 5 because it is still a pretty decent experience for a limited amount of gameplay hours. It is by no means what I would consider a 1 or 2 rating, which is something I'd reserve for a game that's either broken, derivative, shallow, or some combination of those. It's just so confusing as to what exactly they were trying to achieve by stripping out several great aspects of the first game, and replacing them with either something worse or nothing at all.

A solid shooter with interesting end game content( raids and nightfall). But if not for playing with friends it’s nothing special

After the previous game I thought they would learnt their lesson, but it is still the same repetitiveness grind but even worse than the previous one at launch. Towards the end of Destiny 1 it wasn't that bad but this one is a step-back. I don't really see any improvements from the previous one... Very very disappointing since I wanted to give this game a fair chance

Destiny 2, oh how the sequel lives to a limited imagination. I loved the first and all it's following expansions, that was a good game, no overhaul in micro-transactions or the constant let down of rich content, you jump in to original Destiny, and you'll find yourself having a good time, what a shame the sequel could not quite keep the same standards.

The story was good, the visuals improved and the layout of the HUD was smooth and clean, but narrative and visuals are nothing once squandered by the perilous antics of transactions and one time consumables. The let down for Destiny 2 is nothing really in the game core itself, more of the virtual shop within it, buying gems or what not is nothing new in games, and buying them to purchase paying only exclusives isn't either, but this game had no need for it.

I won't say all the bad points, read other player reviews, but beside the bad points there is some light, the story is good, and I mean good, there is a lot of connection between the characters, that was seen in the original, the new antagonist is amazing and the overall direction of the story is great.

The more open world environments is a neat addition, the ability to explore and play small missions and get new gear is fun, the secrets you unravel the enemies you fight all wrapped up in a beautiful world is well worth exploring.

Combat is much the same, the classes are altered in their abilities, but that's good as it allows for a more unique experience, I've not played strikes or crucible yet (down to the fact of PS Plus, highly against that), but i would think they would be improved from the last game.

On a final note there is downsides to Destiny 2 and there are upsides to it, as there are with many games, but if you're looking for clean crisp gun combat and a story that doesn't stray in to confusion, then consider giving Destiny 2 ago.

For this it have a lower user score then Sea of Thieves is criminal!!
Graphics are great, story is acceptable but nothing special but the actual gameplay is enormous fun and just the right level of challenge. I just don’t get gamers these days, you really prefer shallow cartoony multiplayer pirate sims?

It's really just....mediocre. I loved it the first 2 weeks, but I find myself saying "What can I do now?" It really doesn't have any type of endgame to keep you interested after 2 weeks. Hopefully the DLCs can redeem it, but if Battlefront II turns out to be godly then i likely won't even play them...

I dont like Destiny 1. It is boring game with sad mechanics, bad story. You must play cloned missions over and over again, shooting stupid copypasted enemies, and have not any fun.

Its a AAA first person shooter MMO, that manages to have dumb AI, A very dumbed down UI and a story that makes Wolfenstien look Shakespearean. Systems have been designed to treat the player as some kind of cash point for the publisher. The gun play feels great, but this is the last time I buy a game made by Bungie.

Destiny 1 was one of the best games I've ever played. It was repeatative, it was grindy, but it was damn good. Destiny 2 lost all the charm of the ancestor. It's too casual, the grind became boring (lol). The raid is a solid piece of disapointment and it's very bad in general. Curse of Osiris even made it worse. Pity

soundtrack.then theres this abomination.like who in the hell at bungie thought hay lets take verything great about the first game and get rid of it completely and if you disagree well they removed the difficulty changer, 6v6, 4v4, rumble free for all, mayhem pvp, strike modifier, secondary weapons heavy and special ammo, replayable missions, strike specific loot, unique exotic and legendary weapons, random weapon perks, amour perks, customisable subclases, private matches, fun boss battles where you can melt the boss but the boss can also melt you and not just do a it of damge spawn so adds and go immune rince and repeat, having all the end game activities give good loot and the lower difficulty activities give you weaker gear not the other way around, faction reps, gunsmith weapons, having ships, sparrows and shaders be earned through game play not the eververse, having enemies that are tough and chalanging for anyone except a foetus, the cosmodrome in Russia , the ocean of storms on the moon, the Ishtar collective on venus, the meridian bay on mars, the dreadnought, t he plague lands on earth, siav an entire enemy race, a voiced character.now this could all be slightly forgivavle if everything they added wasn't terrible.they promoted the game with 4 new locations one of wich being the biggest they ever made that being the europian dead zone (the EDZ) now the edz isn't actualy that big as in reality its just a massive donut with fast travel points everywhere so you will only see about 5 or 6 little areas in it and 2 of the planets io and titan are tiny and are empty baron wiats with nothing in along with that io is just an ugly rock with a terrible colour palet the other planet is Nessus that in my opinion is the only decent one as it isn't just a donut it actualy uses all the space its presented with and has a nie colour pallet and is visualy impressive.now this game says it has an epic and cinematic story well it dosnt its story is about as good as the original if not worse its just dumbed down and stripped of potential unlike the original and gives us a likeable character cayde 6. now him being a fan favorite he was featured heavily in the marketing and I was really let down when I found out hes is only in a handful of cutscenes and 2 missions.now this game being a looter shooter you would expect it ot have lot of looting that it does but because all the loot is so similar due to fixed perks and how legendarys and exotics are just thrown away as if they are the effort bungo put into this game all the loot is really boring but there is still the gunplay now it is very similar to first game in this it feels soooo boring due to all the guns feeling the same where as in destiny 1 due to all the guns felling and perks being extremely varied it felt o fun to shoot mone gun switch to another and have it feel so much more different was amzing now its just sort of press buton gun fires shot.now the pvp in the first game was so fun and thrilling and hasd a skill gap but also was fairly unbalanced now in destiny 2 they have removed nay semblance of fun or variation in the pvp as all it is is just team shotting then supers being spammed at the end of a match noq th game is statisticaly a bit more balanced but in the end there its not worth it as its just so boring and in diverse as well as that the monthly pvp event iron banner not only did they retcon an entire year of the first game it had some of the most terrible and unrewarding loot drops dor what was supposed to be an endgame activity and I say supposed because they removed level advantages from all pvp in the game iron banner and trials of Osiris or trials of the nine as it is now called so they are just sweaty boring pvp matches that are extremely unrewarding.now in every destiny game/expansion there is allways a raid and bungo delivered one of the most boring raids yet with some really dumb mechanincs especialy when compared to things like kings fall and vault of glass and not only that the raid has one boos at the very end and when you finaly kill him all you get is one gun one piece of armour and a few tokens and oh yeah screw rep gains now you have little circles that you give to an nps for a reskin of a gun you got 10 minutes ago.aswell as all this bungo remove the grimiore cards that where the first games way of explaining lore oney you had to go to there website to read them this time round they removed it and said they would put it in the game yeah they didn't they just removed lore from the entire game.at the end of the day destiny 2 is a looter shooter with boring and easy to aquire loot and boring and easy shooting full of scumy microtrnasactions that have small bits of lore attached to them Expand

I just finished the free trial. Combat is fun but there is no story. As a player new to the franchise, I had no idea what the storyline was. I figured I pick it up as I went along, but I never did get a sense of being involved with any characters or any ultimate goal. My favorite new release to date is Zero Dawn.

Even if Bungie backtracks on some of these horrendous missteps, there’s evidence that the dev team is either flailing around without a clear idea of the experience they want to present, or even worse, they’re happy to offer the least amount of mediocre content possible until the player base starts pushing back. When free-to-play titles like Warframe and Let it Die seem monumentally more generous and offer vastly more entertainment value than a triple-A sixty dollar release built with a budget large enough to feed whole continents, it’s clear that something has gone horribly wrong.

It’s this sense of streamlined player experience that really defines Destiny 2. Where the first game had you grinding for hours just to experience increasingly diminishing returns, this is a sequel that trims away its processor’s frustrations, firmly putting fun first.

Destiny 2 is tough to compare to other shooters or games, but it is evidently a better title than part 1. The campaign is longer, the progression makes more sense, the structure is more satisfying and the sheen and splendor on the various planets entices even more. Destiny is comparable with its predecessor after the add-on The Taken King, and is therefore a more solid foundation for the coming months of content.
