Well its actually quite easy to understand, it means its a game unlike any other, a game that when finally finished, i immediately deleted from my ps4. A game that asks you to travel from A----B to deliver parcels and then throws invisible ghosts and random terrorist at you because it knows that the gameplay cannot hold your interest alone and the story, you are fed hours and hours of exposition that makes no sense and doesn't move the story along in any way, there are entire chapters devoted to side characters that you don't care about and the villain wants to destroy the world because well why not, this writing is laughable, but it was the gameplay decisions that truly made me hate the experience, "oh you walked 16 hours to get here, thanks so much, would you mind walking all the way back now that you have arrived, oh and you cant fast travel because i just don't want you to".

Death Stranding is more infuriating the boring, would not recommend, not even if there a black Friday sale

There are only two types of people that do not love this game: Those who have not completed the story and those who have no creativity. This game is art. To the “gamers” who solely love adrenaline giving games, do not rate this... it may just go over your head. For the rest of you, play this game. Appreciate the art and be inspired by it’s uniqueness. I also see those reviews saying there is a lot walking. My response is "I'm like why are u walking?" People with those reviews obviously didn't play the game. I've played more than 3 months and poured more than 1000+ hours and I'm still stuck in the central region trying to get 5 stars on all the shelters. I strive for perfection and this game sometimes rewards you for that with cool custom gadgets. My favorite gadget or equipment right now is zip lining. I have connected all shelters in the east region and nearly all in the central region. I can make record time on all deliveries except those with massive amount of cargo. Even so, i can still make 2 trips and still make record time. I regret building all the roads, only some needs to be built for convenience reasons. And i also see those complaining about the combat mechanics. I g2 say this game is really easy even on hard difficulty and very forgiving. In combat, All u have to do to survive - for human targets - is to get a bola gun and aim at their head and with BTs...JUST KILL them! Stop sneaking past them. Combat is very small part of the game like seasoning on ur pizza. My last boss fight was with a giant tiger bt, it was soooo easy. which is what wanted because i have a human delivery which i didn't want damaged. All i did was stand there right outside of the shelter and chuck all my hematic grenades i have in my pouch and if i ran out, i walk back in the shelter to make more. I believe this is a 10/10 game, it reminded me of horizon zero dawn alot. This game is for those who wish to be the best virtual hero class UPS delivery guy. Expand

I guess I should start with saying that this is definitely not a game for everyone.
I keep asking myself: Is it fair if someone for whom this game is not dedicated to is able to give this game a review? It's difficult to say. I believe this game is dedicated to individuals who feel the need for little bit of more love and friendship in this **** up world. For someone who honestly hopes for a change. For someone who likes to get lost in sci-fi worlds and is no rush to get out of them. And also for someone who are bored with the old game genres.

If you are asking who is definitely NOT a target audience for this game, then here is the answer: Definitely not for casual gamers, not for someone who barely knows how to play some simple game like Call of Duty or World of Warcraft, or FIFA and other simple (yet fun) games. This game is not for people who can't find at least 2 full hours for the play session. It is also not for the inpatient players, because it takes several hours until you understand the true size and glory of this game. It is not for people who hate philosophy and it is definitely not for people who hate humanity, who keep anger in their heart and who want to hurt others (this game is not about killing people, sorry).

I will say it straight away: this game is 9,5 out of 10 for me, but since there are some many hateful people here destroying this game's honest value and the spirit of message that was written into the game, I'm giving it 10, to fight back these unfair attacks.

Let me say something about the feeling from the game. I played through the whole campaign and it took me 71 hours to beat. I played on hard difficulty ( I believe this is the true difficulty it was meant to be played ). So why did it take me so long? Well, because I actually do care about the story, and I watch the cinematics, I try to understand the meaning behind it all. I rush to read every new Journal entry once I get it unlocked. I talk to side quest NPCs and hear out their stories. By the way, I have so many side quests left, that it will probably take me 50 hours more to finish the platinum trophy.

So what did I get from playing Death Stranding? It's hard to describe. I definitely saw a lot of comparisons and allusions to our today's world (and all the **** that are currently happening) and to our history. From the very beginning Kojima serves you the message of this game on a silver plate and it will not change during the gameplay. In terms of the underlying message, there is nothing hidden, and I find it okay. The story of the game itself hides a lot of secrets and unexpected turns and it is fascinating how masterfully Kojima managed to finish the game and explain all the symbolism, metaphors and secrets during the massively-long ending sequence (again, this is not a game for inpatient players).

I don't want to spoil anything story-wise. The people who have a capacity in their mind and heart to appreciate this masterpiece will play and experience it for themselves. Prepare for the ride.

Gameplay itself? WOW!!! I mean literally I loved it, I never played something quite like this. Kojima really did created a new genre. I had so much fun planning and executing my deliveries, trying to get the best grades for it. I loved how the online players' creations helped me dozens of times to survive or deliver my cargo. The community aspect of this game is just amazing. And the versatility of how to solve navigating the difficult paths throughout this unforgiving world made me sit and think and analyse for just the right amount of time to feel like it is not overly hard or boring.

The only things I found negative about this game: you cannot save game during combat or while in vehicle. Some of the repeating cutscenes like being in safe house can be annoying even when skipping is possible. And riding bikes and trucks on uneven terrain is kind of glitchy.
Outside of this, I can see nothing problematic. The way the menu and cargo setup is created is actually good. You just have to have a little bit of brain to use it and learn it.

Regarding being bored, like so many other critics here say... I was never bored, never ever. I was only lost in this world. And that is what I wanted. Kojima delivered what I expected, and much much more.

Don't be so quick to write hateful notes on this game before you really play at least 20 hours and see where the author really goes with the story and the gradually expanding gameplay. Death Stranding is a powerful experience for seasoned video game players and people who can appreciate being lost in a massive and beautifully crafted world.

This game is make or break in the first 10 hours. You'll either persist through its slow pace and lengthy cutscenes, or you'll move on. This is not a game for the impatient. You really earn your perks, and when you do it feels rewarding. What Death Stranding does, is train you by keeping the pace slow to ensure you get the basics before it opens up. If you were given everything right away? You'd be overwhelmed.

In saying that, I was completely relieved when I got my first bike. Perhaps it took a bit longer than it could have? But at least I learned the basics of traversing the landscape. In saying that, I never ceased to be amazed by the graphics and amazing sights it provides.. and I don't have a 4k screen or a PS4 Pro! So anyone with those things will be even more so. It's beautiful.

You must play this online for the full experience. Having other players structures and cargo waiting for you makes it worthy. Stay connected, and keep making connections. When you see a spot which could do with a bridge? Build one. Think of others, because that's how you and others benefit.

It's a grand team effort, and the game does a wonderful job portraying this without you physically seeing another player. I just wish others wouldn't leave their vehicles in the worst spots imaginable! Lol. But that's how it goes, take the good with the bad.

Enemies -- They are daunting at first, but once you figure 'em out it's not so bad. I played this on Normal difficulty and only went to the seam once (outside storyline instances) because I fell off a bridge while being attacked.

BT's are fine if you are patient. If you get caught? Frantically run out of the circle outlined in the map to escape; or beat the monster. Boss battles were fun! Although not as challenging (predictable AI) than those in MGS. The true enemy in this game? Is the environment making you fall over! That and inventory management (Auto-Arrange helps). There's some degree of frustration and regret when things go wrong.

Quests -- If you don't like fetch quests? Then DS isn't for you. There are some exceptions, but the vast majority are like this. Now I've finished the game.. I can safely say you don't need to 5-star every outpost. It's nice if you want an Ultra Rare trophy, but if you don't care? At least try and get most of 'em in to the UCA so you can make use of others structures/signs. Also, roads are awesome! I built 'em all.. but it's an arduous task gathering materials for every strip. Do it if you have the time, but otherwise it's not essential.

Structures -- I found bridges in good spots get the most amount of likes, as well as building roads. Zip lines didn't for some reason, even though they are very useful (more so in snowy areas). Generators are also really good if no one has built any near an outpost.

Support Characters -- I didn't feel as connected to them as I hoped; all except BB and probably Deadman. For spoiler purposes I won't say anymore, but I do wish they had more personality; although it's hard to stay positive in a post-apocalyptic world. Heartman's cool also.

Story -- Vintage Kojima. The MGS games were the same as they kept you guessing and it will grow on people. They used the word 'beach' a bit too often and repeated dialogue, but overall it keeps you guessing to the last second. It really makes you think hard long after you finished. I love the positive message of connecting with others.

No, the game is not perfect. Can it get boring/repetitive at times? Yes, but it's a truly unique experience which clearly took a ton of effort. Definite recommend. Hideo Kojima, if you see this? I got a star waiting here with your name on it. Let me go set up a zipline or two so you can get here easier. Also *100 likes* to Norman Reedus. Love him in Walking Dead and in this game. El poder interactuar con BB, con Sam, y con el medio es alucinante. Realmente estoy muy complacido con este juego. Es una pena que haya gente que lo critique tan duramente, pues no es para catalogarlo de tal manera. He jugado unas 405 horas, y me imagino que continuaré.

Death Stranding is creating a new game genre and therefore paves its own path towards more interactive experiences. It is a brave work thanks to its novelty, which fortunately is not a bragging right for its creators, as it may have seemed, but an exceptional title that will reward the brave who play it. This game does manage to be fun, even if it is one of the heaviest experiences of 2019. Everything from story to gameplay is begging to be dissected, filled with imagery and symbolism -- just like so many Kojima games before this one. Entering Death Stranding, it’s likely that we all thought Kojima’s calling card was lengthy cutscenes and stealth and action gameplay.

Death Stranding stands as a powerful author’s game which drives a strong message of how our over-connected society is evolving, and how we can help other players. Unlike many AAA games, it shines on a truly spiritual level. Well written, engaging and visually magnificent, it offers, despite some pacing flaws, an astonishing solo game with elegant multiplayer elements. A unique representation of Hideo Kojima’s talent.
