However, if that kind of gameplay loop doesn’t sound appealing, I would recommend holding off on buying for now, or looking into things more. This game definitely will not appeal to all, but for those it does it is phenomenal. The story is masterful, world and lore interesting as all hell, and gameplay an amazing mix of many different aspects. If you think you may enjoy something different and special like this from what you’ve seen or read, I completely recommend picking it up. Expand

So I just finished the game and felt like I had to leave a review to counter a bit of the hate on here.
It took me about 49 hours to complete all the chapters, doing quite a number of side missions, but not nearly all of them.

And I just have to say that this has been one of the most unique game experiences I've had in a long time. And last time I felt so immersed in a game was last year with read dead. And contrary to what has been going around on the internet, I’ve had fun with the game from the moment I started it.
The gameplay is very strategic, deals with a lot of management and is downright addicting and thrilling. Having to move a **** ton of cargo through a challenging terrain, planning your route, planning the trip, dealing with all the obstacles and challenges along the way. Also the passing in which the map and upgrades are revealed and implemented is amazing, changing up the core gameplay with crazy bosses and other mini gameplay elements that we come to know from Kojima.
Also the online element is really cool and refreshing. Had so much fun seeing other peoples structures and signs, helping me out and making my travels easter.
The story is fun and interesting. It’s a bit mystical and has many fantasy elements. But it also deals with some more philosophical and more current subjects. Some that our friends from the US might take a bit too personal, especially coming from a non-american. And I feel like some journalists and internet media kinda showed how toxic they can be, when creators don’t show America in the fantastic light, leading the world and propagating how great of a country it is.
So I think a lot of the hate also comes from this. And the fact that they take what Kojima said about Americans liking shooters more, being taken too personal. And If you rate this game 0 because of that… Pretty pathetic I must say.

All and all, I feel like we had these sort of weird experiences a lot more in the PS2 and GameCube era. I guess gamers were a little different back then. And I don’t understand all the fuss. It’s a really, really good game. Sure, silly at times, maybe even a bit cringy. But that’s Ok. It’s unapologetically itself. And I’m pretty sure that this game will reveal itself to be a pretty big cult classic and all the downvotes in the world isn’t going to change that. Why? You might ask? Because, again, It’s really that good. You just need to give it time to breathe and don’t rush to finish it in under forty hours. And to top it all off: 1) No microtransactions 2) a completely new and super creative IP from great talents in gaming and film. 3) A story that ends and doesn’t build up to a shared universe!

I recommend this to anyone who likes strategy, the best item management since RE4, creative story, amazing environments and taking their time. Be patient and be open to what this game wants to give, and you’ll probably be as addicted and fascinated with this game as I am.

That being said, I easily give the gameplay 9/10, as I never got bored... and the first 7-10 Hrs are slow-paced and punishing for a reason. Beyond those hours, the game only got better and better.

The only down-side of this game is missions for story-mode, which is kinda repetitive. Wait... didn't we see it before somewhere ??? (cough cough... Phantom Pain... which was praised by everyone) If this game has a repetitive mission design, I blame the reviewers and users of Phantom Pain for not pointing it out back then.

Lots of innovative ideas, along with a good social system to indirectly bring all the players together in a very positive way. Really good system/level design, where the world itself becomes an obstacle as you explore. The farther you go, the more challenges you face, the better rewards you get to overcome all the difficulties. The progression system is really good.

The story is decent as well. I am not a big fan of Kojima story-telling tbh, but he nailed it in death stranding. The suspense is there, and is a good one.

the world building concepts seen in the trailers intrigued me and I liked the soundtrack from the trailers so I decided to give the game a shot. I'm about 18 hours in and I can say that it feels very polished and deliberate in what it does. The world from the tech to the clothing and environments are very detailed and well designed makeing this abstract world feel as close to real is it can. The game looks amazing on my 4k set up. I personally find the games themes compelling and I like the art direction and cinematography it's going for.

The dialogue at the start is exposition heavy and tries to hammer in some terminology that is import to understand for both game play and story reasons but that's to be expected from a game so reliant on building up its world to Immerse the player. I think some people will enjoy this type of story telling but others will be turned off by all the scifi speak and might feel the game comes off as pretentious. I personally am a fan of these type of abstract metaphorical concepts in story telling so I am really appreciating the world building and the themes it's trying to get me to think about by putting me in Sam's shoes. Voice acting is very good as are the animations the writing can feel a bit odd at times and I think this due to the way words with multiple meanings are conveyed in English vs Japanese but overall its solid nothing I could really complain about.

The game play I think will be a subjective point to most especially those who where lead to expect a more action oriented mgs approach to combat. Going in I expected this game to play sort of like a stealth horror game and to some extent it does. From a game design perspective horror games benefit from making the player feel limited that sense of limits adds tensions to situations by pushing the player to make use of their limited resources to overcome great odds. This is why the older residents evil games felt so much scarier than the newer action heavy entries. Death stranding is limiting in a lot of senses and I think that may put some people off but for me this creates a game of optimizations and efficiency. Since you have limited weight you can hold you have to plan what tools you can bring on your your journey. You plan out paths, set up bridges, ladders and ropes to make future travel or return paths more optimal because due to time fall you wanna limit cargo's exposure to the elements as much as possible. All the while the actual traversal requires you to constantly be micro managing your pathing over beautiful deliberately designed terrain to ensure you are not wasting unnecessary stamina or going over risky terrain unless it offers a notable shortcut. I personally find this game play loop engaging and the promise of eventual upgrades like cargo capacity upgrades and the ability to build highways for my vehicles to quickly go over problematic terrain has me excited.

If the game can deliver a satisfying conclusion for its characters and world I will be able to say this is a game that does a lot right in my book but I think what people take away from this game will vary a lot depending on the person especially if they go into this game expecting your average third person open world game play loop. I don think it would be fair to ever call it a "bad game" by any means though from a pure game design perspective it has everything a core game play loop needs but it is by no means done in a traditional manner and that just wont appeal to everyone but what it does do, it undeniably does well.

There are many negative reviews but my theory is it’s mostly from people who just rushed through the game not taking in any aspect of it. Pissed their vehicles kept breaking down and not knowing why they can’t find generators. If you try and rush through this game you’re gonna be sorely disappointed. You actually have to prep for most mission, yes they all do boil down into fetch quests, but traversing through the environments lends enough variation that it was hard for me to become bored. Working with other players to build structures to make travel easier was probably the most rewarding for me putting in materials to help build roads only to come back later and it was completely built was an awesome experience. It’s a game where if you got it day one everything you make will make it easier for people who play it later on which is the most innovative mechanic I’ve seen in any game this year. I’m only giving it a 9 out of ten cause it gives you the option to pee on stuff just not the bosses and that’s a missed opportunity if I’ve ever seen one. Expand

Death Stranding is nothing short of a marvel, so don't let the obvious review bombing campaign fool you. I'll break the positives and negatives into categories.
Graphics: Absolutely gorgeous even on a base PS4. On par with RDR2 in some places, with extra care taken into its particle effects, large scale distance, and its detailed facial animations. So far nearly every trailer has been in this game, shot for shot, and with only minor artistic changes to their look, and the main story's cutscenes are especially beautiful, looking almost prerendered. Shinkawa's art direction is also magnificent and adds to its bleak, yet high tech, feel. In short, this game impressed the hell out of Digital Foundry, and that's no small thing.
Audio: Ludvig Forsell was in charge of the OST and sound design and all of it sounds sublime and satisfying, from menu clicks, to the electronic score. I'm a little more iffy with some of the licensed music, but luckily the bulk of that is from Low Roar, which is a band I like.
Gameplay: Apparently the most controversial thing, but as a certain mob can only focus on one aspect of it and pretend it's the entire game, I'll try and go into detail in under 5k characters: Death Stranding has a ton of mechanics, none of which go unused. The weight and balancing system in which Sam carries cargo and equipment is incredibly detailed and keeps you on your toes constantly. If weight isn't an issue, top heaviness, hostile winds, deep water, and visibility (enemies will spot a tower of boxes even if you're hiding in the grass) will be. The first few missions are very standard: take some cargo to a neighboring base and more importantly connect it to the network, enabling the highly enjoyable online features, which largely involves crafting bridges, battery chargers, and other boons for yourself and others. While the basic mission structure changes little, the level design and enemy placement (especially on story missions) adds a wide variety to your approach, and keeps the gameplay engaging. There are also a multitude of vehicles, weapons, power armors, etc at your disposal, especially from chapter 3 on. If there's a single flaw I can see with the gameplay it's with its physics system, which is a bit janky, though it follows its own physics rules enough to adjust to very quickly. The enemies I've encountered so far have ranged from MULEs, who try to steal your stuff and hunt travelers down, terrorists, who just want you dead, and BTs, which are more horror-based monstrosities that you have to sneak around or risk getting into a miniboss fight with a larger BT. The BTs are the best of the three, surprising you and keeping you on your toes at every turn. And yes, there are main bosses, and yes, they are implemented creatively, with a few even topping some of Metal Gear's bosses, but this review is spoiler free so I'll let you see for yourself.
Story: Calling Death Stranding a game about a guy who delivers packages is like calling Shenmue a game about a forklift driver. The plot and worldbuilding hits you immediately, and in full Kojima fashion, every side mission ultimately serves the single common goal of the main narrative. I won't go into spoiler territory, but I will say that the story is both thoroughly explained and worth every minute. No major character is unlikable and it all clicks in a very satisfying way by the time the credits roll.
This game is at its very few worst points a high 7, but at its best, it reaches 10 and beyond. It's a very ambitious game that I can't say I've played before, and its design philosophies have been implemented in the most detailed and gameplay-focused way they possibly could. My only real disappointment is in this reviewbombing nonsense, which has been going on since day 1, when next to nobody came even close to the halfway point of the 50-70 hour runtime before smashing 0 en masse. Ironically, these 0s are only helping negate any legitimate criticisms, since low scores as a whole can no longer be trusted as a consequence of the bombing. If anything this pathetic display showed me that mindless divisiveness is still going strong, and that Death Stranding's message of of the importance of working together is about as timely as it gets.

Quick update: After about 90 hours I got my platinum trophy. This wasn't just a game I enjoyed for its story. It's one I came back to out of a pure desire to see everything there was to see, despite a backlog of other games piling up. Doubling down hard on my 10/10 rating. Death Stranding is a masterpiece.

At the moment I am 40 hours into the game. I have read a lot of the negative reviews about this game and I think I would rather start by addressing the issues the game has:
    1. Annoying controls while walking: Sam is constantly moving large amounts of cargo with different weights and densities. The travel route is not always smooth and if you are hasty and run all the time, you will have a frustrating experience. You need to constantly use your scanner in order to identify the best possible path ahead of you that leads in the smoothest experience, even if it diverts from a straight path. This game requires patience. Our generation is so impatient that everyone is talking about how this game is frustrating. Maybe you should learn to be patient and you will love the game. Take a second. Think about your decisions in the game. Personally at this point I rarely have issues while walking because I have failed so many times, but now I have learnt how to handle the cargo.
    2. Annoying vehicle behaviour while traveling on a rock-y landscape: The wheels are METALLIC, NOT RUBBER. Stop driving over rocks. Metallic wheels exhibit poor grips. Think about the weaknesses of your equipment. Just because you have a vehicle, it doesn't mean you are entitled to a fast smooth travel to your destination. Ever delivery order includes a summary of the challenges en-route. Pay attention to these hints and plan ahead.
    3. It's just a walking simulator: No it isn't. Well, At the beginning there is a lot of walking which can be rewarding if you are patient and relaxed. Also, later on you will have so many amazing tools that will cut your travel time short. But even then you will miss walking and the joy of feeling the distance and the amazing views.
This game contains most genres. Death Stranding isn't designed to give you a dopamine rush throughout the entire gameplay time like Call of Duty or Fifa. Actually if you are looking for an empty cliche game that serves you the same old concept, then Death Stranding isn't for you. Death Stranding does provide thrilling scenarios balanced with relaxing walks which give you time to reflect. There are many elements including horror, 3rd person shooter, open-world exploration, stealth, infrastructure construction, harvesting materials and crafting tools, etc. Given time, you will have access to such beautiful inventory of tools.
So these were the main points about people are concerned about, which are all rooted in impatience and the urge to be satisfied. This game is a life lesson. And that lesson is "be patient and adaptive, so you can overcome the challenges". This game reflects who you are. If you don't believe me, play it with a friend of yours and you will see how different your friends approach is to yours. Death Stranding is without doubt one of the best stories ever told within one of the most beautifully crafted games.

People that think thi sgame was marketed as the next MGS are down right idiotic and childish, it wasn't marketed that way it isn't arketed that way and the game is marketed as you seen in trailers, gameplay reveals etc..

Know for what I think of the game personally coming from that I never played a MGS game, I love the adventure espect of this game, for the first time I felt like being apart of the journey instead sprinting tghrouh open worlds not giving a single damn on what is around me and what situation I might come up on, the story was wierd and misterious but ultimatley gives you what you need to understand the game.

If your looking at this game as a heavy shooter this game isint for you, if your going to try to speed tghrouh the game, go play fornite or call of duty, if you are attempting to critise the game and compare it to other kojima games dont waste no ones time this is a new and refreshing take on open worlds, the gaming industry and story driven games ingerenal.

Ironically, a game that is all about connecting people and bringing them together, Death Stranding is the most divisive title of the decade. Being able to enjoy this game comes down to whether or not you're able to appreciate games as an art form or if you only play games for fun.

In Death Stranding you play as Sam, a package delivery guy snatched into the service of an organization trying to re-establish a nationwide network in post-apocalyptic America. You pick up delivery orders and traverse the distance between the cities - mostly on foot. If you feel like pulling a heavy load of cargo across long distances on challenging terrain is a drag, you would be correct. But make no mistake, this is by design. As mentioned earlier this game is all about making connections and building bridges - both literally and figuratively. Death Stranding continuously highlights how much harder things are to do on your own by creating a stark contrast between making deliveries to a new location for the very first time and returning to a place you already connected to the others. Bringing nodes online shares the area with other players, allowing you to use equipment, vehicles and structures they left behind by other Sams moving through. Using paths in common with others also clears the terrain from rocks and creates natural dirt paths. You can even co-operate with other players and build paved roads spanning great distances around and above otherwise dangerous areas.

Most of Death Stranding's gameplay mechanics have to do with cargo. Whether carrying things as the main gameplay loop is something you can enjoy or not is entirely up to your personal preference, but it's undeniably well designed. Sam has a limit to how much he can carry, both in weight and volume. The shape and weight of his cargo loadout affects his stability and movement speed. His ability to maintain his balance is affected by many things, like slopes, terrain and the sharpness of his turns. You have complete control over Sam, but he also has momentum. The only time I ever had to fight the controls was when I was trying to interact with the floating cargo carrier I was dragging behind me. The game also has combat features that should feel very familiar to Metal Gear Solid players, although with much less variety.

To keep this review spoiler free, I'm not going to discuss the story in much detail. The world of Death Stranding is strange and fascinating, with bits and pieces of the details fed to the player as Sam progresses across the continent. In typical Kojima fashion the story is both another strong point of the game and sometimes comes off a little preachy. The dialogue also misses a few beats.

    Positives:
+ the world and the characters are excellent
    + a truly unique game

    Negatives:
    - has pacing issues
    - it's not for everyone

Ergo, I came into this game quite fresh and with minimal bias. To be honest, I was leaning towards not purchasing this game based on the gameplay I've seen from the trailers. But I bit the bullet anyway and made the purchase knowing that one of my favorite film directors (Guillermo Del Toro) was involved in the game and that I had a few days for vacation ahead of me.

I booted up the game and with little expectations, played the game that would eventually change my appreciation the art of game design for the better.

To save time, I will write this review debunking or agreeing with criticisms most commonly mentioned about the game:

    1. Cutscene-o-rama
Understandably, people who would rather play a game than watch a game would hate any game with any cutscene longer than 30 seconds. However, nearly all the best games of the recent years HAVE considerably long cutscenes. At least with Death Stranding, you get to see the actors you know and love performing and helping to weave a complex story together. (And no, the story is not overly complex. If my 9 year old nephew could understand what's happening in the story and you don't, then what's lacking is definitely coming from your end.) 2. Boring Gameplay
This is how I can tell if someone's either a one track gamer or has never actually played the game. If you're into only shooters, adventure games and have never played simulations, RTS and story-driven games, then I understand why you may not enjoy Death Stranding. Now, why the hell would you death stranding to follow the likes of your typical shooter if they never sold this game as your typical shooter? The entire game is a simulation and a love letter to this decade's type of games. You can really tell how Kojima has studied the games of this decade and managed to incorporate the best aspects of each with the vision he intended for his game. 3. Empty World Building Thats the point! The vast world coupled with the random events help immerse the player into a post-apocalyptic world. And before you say that you don't encounter any other couriers on the road, you in fact DO! You can even interact and follow them all the way to their objective as they deliver their shipments. 4. Enemies Aren't Challenging
While I agree with this initially, you obviously haven't played enough of the game to face difficulty. The big boss battles may be easy at first but when you eventually are faced with 2 or 3 at the same time, the difficulty definitely spikes.

Death Stranding is most definitely not a perfect game by any stretch. But the undeserved hate it's getting just goes to show you how entrenched some people are on their opinions despite all the evidence presented of how amazingly unique thia game is.

Let me start off by saying that when I say that this game is not for everyone, I mean this game is not for casual gamers. If you are in to high intensity, fast paced action, you likely won't like this game. If you are into a straightforward story that's gets to the point and doesn't require any extra thought or any deep thinking, you will likely not like this game.

You play as Sam, a lone delivery man that delivers cargo of high importance to various destinations across a post-apocalyptic United States. Sounds boring on the surface but it's what you encounter and how you make your deliveries that make this game fun and rewarding.

First off, this game is not just delivering packages from point A to point B, it's deliver these packages of high importance while avoiding MULEs, who are essentially a group of outlaws that seek to steal your valuable cargo. Then there are the "BTs," I won't reveal what they are but they are a tougher enemy than the MULEs and are the reason for the post-apocalyptic world. Then there's the rain, again I won't spoil why but the rain degrades your cargo over time and leads to damaged cargo over time. Lastly, there is the terrain which can range from very easy to traverse to very difficult.

Now on to what ultimately makes this game great to play.

    1. Story: I'm not giving spoilers but it's a Kojima game, so you know the story is great.

    2. When you take on a "delivery" how you arrange your cargo on Sam's back and how much cargo you take will significantly impact how difficult your delivery will be. If you pile your cargo too high, or take too much cargo, it will effect Sam's balance, speed and stamina. So if you want to play it safe and take tons of cargo, such as taking a bunch of ladders and ropes for climbing up/down cliffs or walking over rivers and streams; then Sam will be carrying more weight thus making it harder to balance or move at a faster pace (such as sneaking past MULEs or BTs) which can cause you to fall and either injure Sam, damage your precious cargo or both.

    3. Combat/Stealth: Much like the Metal Gear Solid games, Death Stranding has a major stealth element to it. There will be instances where you will need to sneak up on MULEs and incapacitate them to steal back a piece of stolen cargo or whatever it is that you are tasked to do. As you progress through the game you will receive more and more weapons to help combat the MULEs and the BTs. I'm about 20 hours in and have only gotten the first weapons so my experience with them is limited but there are weapons that utilize Sam's blood (Story to find out why!) that if you overuse can lead to Sam losing more blood and can potentially lead to Sam dying, so you have to be wise as to how you use them and how much you use them.

Final Thoughts: Death Stranding is a great game. But, I can see why many people would't like it. It is not your typical action game, it's a slow paced strategy game (yes strategy is huge in this game) that takes time but feels very rewarding when you accomplish your mission. If you love a good story and like to think deeply about what is happening in a story (and not just the surface level of what is right in front of you) then this game is for you. If you are a more straightforward "bash in the door and charge in guns blazing" kind of person, then I can confidently say you will not like this game.

I may have rated it a little bit lower but I just had to compensate for some who obviously haven't played the game and just got mad at the hype and before-release gameplay footage.
I have never played MGS, I couldn't care less about the creator, this has nothing to do with "fanboying" : got thrilled with the E3 trailers, now I'm 50 hours in and I absolutely love it. The game is amazing.

I have never played MGS, I couldn't care less about the creator, this has nothing to do with "fanboying" : got thrilled with the E3 trailers, now I'm 50 hours in and I absolutely love it. The game is amazing. Of course, it is not an action / shooting rpg game, you won't expect to grab a gun and take down 30 ennemies all by yourself (though you can do that but you'll likely lose, and there are some action chapters in a setting that hit right in the gut. You don't kill mindlessly as in most game nowadays, the game is made so that you feel how it is to take or save one's life and most guns are non-lethal).

    Some +/- points:

+ The story is intriguing and the characters are charismatic yet flawed. It takes time to understand all of it but it gradually makes more and more sense. Some of it is artistically absurd, so if you usually enjoy this kind of things in literature or cinema, you'll be pleased.

+ The gameplay is actually pretty diverse, this is not a "walking simulator". Sure you walk, as in any other game really, but you have to take account of many factors, and there are dynamics that takes from horror games, stealth games, action games, management games and so on. The difficulty is well balanced as well.

+ The social system is innovative, feels great, and is well thought. It could have been so much worse : at first, I feared that other people's constructions would ruin the feeling of the game, the loneliness that you are supposed to feel. In fact, when you first get in a zone and didn't connect it yet, there are no sign of other player, the world is almost vanilla and it feels hard to get anywhere. Then you connect it and suddenly everything is less lonely, easier. It uses servers I believe, so there's not too much of it either, and it deteriorates with time. And it is so positive. You get to enjoy positively other people presence yet no one can disturb your journey. If you don't like to socialize with people but don't like feeling lonely for too long, you are gonna LOVE it.

+ The graphics are amazing, the landscape feel so natural but I never, not even once, felt it was "all the same". They did a really good job. You can feel there's a mood, an ambiance, especially when it starts raining or snowing or whatever. You feel loneliness, tension, relief. That game truly makes you feel things.

+ The sound design and musics are 10/10. I wish music could come more often, sadly it only follows the story, and basic deliveries will most likely be in complete silence, with the sounds of nature, wind, the river flowing. You can put music in some safe places though, which makes them feel even more "safe".

    - If you don't have a lot of time to play, this might just not be the game for you. It is slow paced, which is fine, this is the best way to play it - but it might get frustrating if you can play only one hour at a time. But if you have time, then it will be worth every minute of it, if you like slow-paced non-action game as I do.

    - I've heard a lot of complaining about the menu management, how there are way to much info on screen, written in small caps. It takes a bit of effort to understand but I managed pretty easily. Maybe, choose a day where you don't feel tired to get started, and take your time, you'll do just fine.

    - Vehicules are... well, not very realistic. I mean, it's not awful to use, i actually enjoy it on roads, but it feels like horses from Skyrim, either that or rocks along the way will just makes them almost useless. Going on foot is slower and you can't get as much cargos, but it feels so much better to play.

    - The "action" part of the game is not that great. It is not the center of the gameplay however, and you better avoid confrontation anywa if you want to be effective. But if you are used to FPS, you might grit your teeth a few times.

Also I haven't got any bugs whatsoever, and I started day one.

This will not be a game for every one. It's okay, to each game their own appreciation. I just wish the gratuitous haters wouldn't be so noisy, it mights get people who would love it to just disregard the whole game and lose a new experience that truly feels great, and not at all like a "second job".

I cannot believe so many people are giving the game bad reviews. I see countless people saying how it's boring and repetitive. This just isn't the case at all. If I had to critique anything it would be that the motorcycle is finicky to control, and the menu's can be a little convoluted and confusing at times. People are clearly going brain dead with shooters, apparently not having bullets flying at you non-stop is boring now-a-days. I honestly was scared to buy the game after reading so many bad reviews - but after playing, it became clear to me that the bad reviewers either didn't play the game more than two hours, or they simply have bad taste in video games. It's a shame so many people will end up passing on the game due to the bad ratings. This game will go down in history as a classic, one of the truly great video game experiences that I'm glad I didn't miss out on. Expand

Лучшая игра в этом унылом для игровой индустрии 2019 году. Арт-проект. Не понимаю почему у игроков так бомбит с того что в игре абсолютно мало насилия и много сюжета и драмы. Мне понравилась.

I do not recommend this game if you simply want to play video games with heavy action elements. This is not assassins creed or call of duty. If you don't like story driven games, then I do not recommend this. If you played a Hideo Kojima game before and hated his story telling and cut scenes, then definitely don't buy this game as you'll experience the same.

Phenomenal game, I'm only 6 hours in but the time has flown by. There is a lot of walking but when a game is as stunning as this, you really don't mind and the story so far is excellent.

Yes, the gameplay is slow, but its what takes place between those moments that really matters. The characters are well thought out, each with backstories, and the cutscenes feature beautiful cinematography and expert directing. In short, you will either love it or hate it. This game truly established the extent of a relation between a player and a game. It focuses on the experience the player has and it does an amazing job at it. The most kojima game yet. Such a relaxing awe inspiring game with the usual kojima plot lines. I would never have expected it to have translated this well to gameplay but it does. You can truly get lost within this world and the time spent walking through it. Add on top of that a great soundtrack, cast and multiplayer cooperative feel and it's a total masterpiece.

The dialogue is also not very good.

Death Stranding is creating a new game genre and therefore paves its own path towards more interactive experiences. It is a brave work thanks to its novelty, which fortunately is not a bragging right for its creators, as it may have seemed, but an exceptional title that will reward the brave who play it. This game does manage to be fun, even if it is one of the heaviest experiences of 2019. Everything from story to gameplay is begging to be dissected, filled with imagery and symbolism -- just like so many Kojima games before this one. Entering Death Stranding, it’s likely that we all thought Kojima’s calling card was lengthy cutscenes and stealth and action gameplay.

Death Stranding stands as a powerful author’s game which drives a strong message of how our over-connected society is evolving, and how we can help other players. Unlike many AAA games, it shines on a truly spiritual level. Well written, engaging and visually magnificent, it offers, despite some pacing flaws, an astonishing solo game with elegant multiplayer elements. A unique representation of Hideo Kojima’s talent.
