Issues with the naming aside, revisiting the title responsible for turning Call of Duty into one of the biggest juggernauts in gaming via this reboot has proved to be the redemption they needed. The Call of Duty experience has in no way been redefined, but by going back to basics like this and readopting the structure of their earlier works, Infinity Ward has delivered their best, most varied, and fun game since 2011's Modern Warfare 3.

While the campaign may test your patience when it comes to Russophobia and historical revisionism, it's hard to fault the actual gameplay. Much like Call of Duty 4, the single-player offering is a diverse series of memorable and exciting encounters. The exploration of the more horrific elements of war and combat are interesting, if also controversial. Placing civilians and children infront of your gun is an odd move for a series known for deriving fun from it's bombastic action and non-stop shooting, but it did garner an emotional reaction from me when I was forced to pick shots carefully in a crowded city to avoid killing innocents or something along those lines, even if that response was just disgust at the brutality of the moment.

The multiplayer is a blast. It's largely still the same experience we've been playing for years now in terms of the modes and core gameplay, but the new engine makes it all feel fresh again. The controls are the same, but shooting is better than ever as weapons carry a sense of real weight are more devastating than ever. The presentation is also phenomenal. The photorealistic graphics and outstanding sound design (I'll likely never tire of hearing bullet casings hit the ground) make each match just cinematic as any of the campaign levels. The amount of freedom you're given to customize your guns and overall loadouts offer the depth of an RPG and the returning War mode from WWII offers the scale and massive battles of a Battlefield game.

The reinvigorated Spec Ops is a nice change of pace from the now repetitive Zombies offering we typically get. Although I personally would have preffered the return of Ghosts' underrated "Extinction" mode, it's hard to not appreciate the amount of genuine cooperation and tactics these missions require even if the difficulty of them can be downright grueling. I would love to see a patch that makes enemies less aggressive as often times failure isn't the result of poor planning or teamwork, but rather every AI on the map bum-rushing your location at once.

With their last two outings coming up short of past glories and causing them to lag behind their peers in the series, Infinity Ward wisely decided to take a look back at what worked for them when they created what is still widely considered to the best Call of Duty. While not without its controversial elements in the monetization and story, this reboot is definitely a welcome return to form. Modern Warfare is once again the king of the FPS scene and it's all due to it capturing a style similar to the one that wowed everyone back in 2007.

The action sequences are once again spectacular, and the creators are uncompromising in their depiction of terror and violence. This is one of the darkest entries in the entire franchise. But it remains gripping and endlessly thrilling from the first mission to the last.

I've needed a good FPS campaign, and especially a good CoD FPS shooter campaign, and Infinity Ward has delivered. Sensitive or politically correct players be damned. Can't wait for the next installment.

This game would be 10/10 but sadly the deep state or otherwise known as the Pentagon had to ruin the story with anti-russian propaganda so it falls short of being a classic.
Some of the greatest missions "Piccadilly" and "Clean House" are also way to short, I would have loved to see more of that but sadly most of the game takes place in a generic made up Islamic country.

I'm returning to Call of Duty after nearly 7 years and I'm not disappointed. The game looks and feels fresh. The new graphical engine is superb and the gameplay is smooth, yet realistic. The VO work is top notch and again, it looks and sounds amazing. You could actually be there it's so good! There's no crazy, over the top moments. It's grounded and I loved every minute of it. Spec ops is a let down as there's isn't much to do and it's very repetitive. It's more fun with friends but it's still just ok. The mp is great with a few things that need fixing. The maps are impossible to master as there are so many angles and hiding spots. The footsteps are way too loud and need to be turned down by at least 50%. It encourages camping which brings us full circle back to the maps. Gunplay and customization are great. This could be a great COd but it's up to IW to fix the few issues. DLC maps will be free so that's a huge positive as well. It will keep people engaged for a longer amount of time. At the end of the day it's still COD. COD will always be around but iI don't think we'll every get that giddy feeling like we had back with MW2 and Black Ops 1. It's sad but those days are past us and other, more complex games are filling the void. Expand

Show this game to 12 yr old me playing MW2 and my brain would be **** melted. Some glitches and bugs but i trust those will get ironed out soon. Campaign had jaw on the floor moments and really captured the essence of what “modern warfare” means. This is exactly what Call of Duty in 2019 should look and feel like.

This is the best that Call of Duty has been in a very long time. It offers the strongest campaign since Black Ops 2 and the multiplayer can be very fun when it's not being plagued by lobbies of campers. The co-op mode unfortunately needs a lot of work.

When its being COD this is the best COD since MW2. The maps that riff off Battlefield aren't too special. and I'm not too partial to the game-modes that borrow from Counter-strike/Rainbow Six (I personally prefer old-school deathmatch) but there are game modes for everyone. Graphics, sound and gun play are really top-notch. Didn't play the campaign and never have in a COD game.

Multiplayer: Great experience, deep weapon customisation.
Campaign: Too short, and new captain price is does not have the same nobility and empathy. It is alright, but a bit empty for that price tag.
I bought it, but I feel the campaign should be more complete.

However, it's a huge turnoff when it comes to the length of the campaign and the maps in the multiplayer side did not align well in terms of a bad spawning system and campers. Especially when the special ops even the survival mode feels unfinished and underdeveloped that could easily upset those that love to play coop with friends or strangers online. This is a technically well crafted reboot, but it desperately needs more room for improvement. But hey, it's better than the fantasy Black Ops 4 right? Expand

Modern Warfare is a convincing game campaign-wise. I won’t enter into the politics ground where some things are indeed criticizable. My review is made with the belief that the story of this game is purely fictional, but I get some people might get offended by the way the truth of some real-life-similar events might be modified. Those things aside, the campaign was quite a good surprise. IModern Warfare is a convincing game campaign-wise. I won’t enter into the politics ground where some things are indeed criticizable. My review is made with the belief that the story of this game is purely fictional, but I get some people might get offended by the way the truth of some real-life-similar events might be modified. Those things aside, the campaign was quite a good surprise. I felt interested and entertained. Unlike most of other CoDs, it was not just about shooting enemies from point A to B with a dull story. There was more depth in this story mode, more variety. You can play as a soldier trying to neutralize a terrorist attack or as a child seeing his country destroyed. We’re showed something new, something different with many bridges made to our current world. It’s really good to see great Campaigns being made again. Unfortunately, it is very short. It would be good if the sequel is released in a DLC but that will most likely be MW2 material.

The multiplayer mode got me very excited at first sight. The weapon design is very profound, there are a lot of attachments and weapons can virtually be unique (even though in the end some weapons are always overused), each having a different feel. I loved the new Gunfight mode, and Ground War is a smart addition despite its many flaws (vehicles?). Crossplay is also such a perfect addition, and NAT problems were all corrected in the process of it. Connection-wise (despite the 12hz private matches), I am very happy with this game. Something I regret is the absence of ranked play (and a bad private match system where items cannot be banned, once again, resulting in abuses such as seen in CDL Minnesota), but instead we got a SBMM system that fails to convince me. Furthermore, some of the maps are very debatable, knowing the developers had in mind to make them newbie-friendly (i.e. safe zones) took dynamism away and quite frankly results in too much camping. Maps such as Azhir Cave or Piccadilly are questionable, alongside the large size maps such as the horrendous Euphrates Bridge. All that said, I think the MP remains correct, but not good enough to make one think it’s better on every aspect than all what COD has showed in previous titles.

Finally, we cannot ignore the Spec Ops mode. And I would say that this was my biggest disappointment. It’s empty, feels very cheap, and IW did it way better 12 years ago. I don’t like the idea to make it on a giant BR-like map. The ops are all similar, without any good story background (despite many teases aimed at making us think oppositely) and boring. Day one, there were very few ops, and at this day (26/01/20), I am still very disappointed in it. If the Spec Ops mode of MW was similar to the ones of MW2 & MW3, the game would have been a success in my opinion. But this big minus shows how not ready IW were to release this game, and once again, gave the community less than what it expected.

That being said, the game is good. We’ve seen good things, and we must encourage Activision to continue in this direction. Crossplay and limitation of microtransactions are important additions that I hope will show the way for the future.

Firstly, the important parts.... Graphics, Sound Design and mechanics are all spectacular. I would honestly say that the gunplay mechanics in this title are pretty much the best I've come across in a shooter.... top of the pile.

The solo campaign is just as taught, tense and at times graphic as has been reported on, and ... well, I'm sure most have seen what many are saying about it... basically, war is complicated, Russia is bad, America is the righteous savior, blah, blah. It's a decent romp, but with some pretty gruesome moments. Acting is decent though and characters are well portrayed.

Multiplayer modes are decently varied. I'm not hugely keen on the very large map 'ground war' mode tbh. It's just too chaotic for my tastes. Other modes on medium maps such as the bomb disposal one and domination are decent, with potential for mastering the maps. My favourite is the one in the Swiss Alps. The Arabic maps are often very complex (particularly the Palace map) with a complicated matrix of interconnected corridors and alleys on various levels. Had some genuinely fun times so far, particularly with the quad bikes etc.

So here it is..... gunfight. My baby. It's an absolute gem of a mode. The maps are mostly superb - I particularly love King, Pine, Stacks and Speedball, but they are all varied and most offer decent opportunities for tense highly competitive gameplay. The seamless and simple joining of lobbies and fast turnover of games makes it a very addictive mode. What can i say.... this mode alone is worth the ticket price for me, esp if the game is picked up for around 30 quid. Kind of wish they just sold this mode for 15 quid as a standalone MP game, as it would mean the player base would be huge for ages like Rocket League.

Multiplayer is also very good, slower paced and a little more tactical which is not my usual style so having to adjust a little to this. It also seems a bit more campy but then you just need to check things more now and use flashbangs etc. Weapons all feel nice and beefy sounding, I actually do not mind using a sniper rifle in this game now as well. Not my usual cuppa but on the big maps it good. As usual it has me shouting foul mouthed words at times and raging when I play rubbish but when you do get a good game its great as usual. Maps should be free etc and here is hoping that its just cosmetics that you pay for (does anyone trust them on this? I do not think I do atm)

Now for all the reviews that are 0 you guys must be idiots for starters it is a Call of Duty game and you must know what you are getting into, bugs on release day etc. There are enough changes in this game to keep it a little bit fresh. The user score means nothing on Metacritic as I do not see how this game is anywhere near a 0 unless you lot are just review bombing it then well that's that I guess. Activision still has time to mess this game up and knock more points off though but from me it is a very good effort from the people at InfiniteyWard at least at launch. Crossplay is welcome so no buying this game on other platforms etc if you have friends scattered about on different platforms. Some nice new maps along with 64 players etc. Weapons have lots of customisation and so far they all seem pretty good with nothing being well overpowered. Mouse and keyboard support on consoles is also worth a mention :)

Right off to complete the campaign now.

Another year, another Call of Duty. This time it is a soft-reboot of one of the (modern era) titles that made the Call of Duty series grow, namely the first Modern Warfare. Needless to say, I missed Captain Prince and his iconic beard and mustache.

About the campaign, the American CIA officers and British SAS forces are said to have teamed up with some Uzbekistan rebels, with the overall goal of fighting the Russians who apparently invaded that fictitious country. Despite being short, overall I liked the campaign. Don't forget that Special Ops mode connects with campaign history. Unfortunately for Xbox One and PC users, they will have to wait a year for the Survival mode.

But going straight to one of the most central aspects of this Call of Duty: Modern Warfare: the gameplay. The first impression I got was that the gameplay was to fetch some things from the Battlefield series from Eletronic Arts. This means that this game is slower and less racing than previous titles in the series, but the gameplay pleased me. And the rushers will have a bad time in Multiplayer, but later I'll explain why.

Multiplayer and Spec Ops rankings (cooperative mode) are linked. If you are ranked 13th in Multiplayer and for the first time in Spec Ops, you are ranked 13th with the same weapons and perks. And we also have a different progression system than the other Call of Duty. When we reach level 55 (maximum level), we have a new progression option. Instead of moving to the next prestige, the players rank is cleared and we can reach the highest levels (from 1 to 100).

About Multiplayer itself. Old modes like Team Deathmatch, Domination, Headquarters, and Search and Destroy are present in this Modern Warfare. We also have a mode called Ground War, which is a giant 64 player map, with vehicles and helicopters in the mix, where we have to dominate most points (Domination style) to lead our team to victory. Remember Battlefield? I think so.

Another mode worth talking about is Gunfight. This mode takes place on very small maps, two-on-two matches and with players receiving the same Loadout to be balanced. I confess that Gunfight mode pleased me more than Ground War. Many more (free) Multiplayer modes and maps will be coming over the next few months. And don't forget that this is the first Call of Duty to support Cross-Play, meaning we can face players from other platforms. If you aren't interested in this, you can disable this option.

Speaking of maps, Infinity Ward could have done better in this chapter. There are few maps and they are too big, especially in 6 vs 6 modes (we also have 10 vs 10 modes). But worse than that, it's the sound of footsteps that looks more like a horse race. Putting these two factors together, the game forces people to go camping (there were always campers at CoD, but not at this point) and you can see that a lot at Team Deathmatch. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare can turn out to be a very Multiplayer game if you fix some of these issues. In modes other than TDM, the game can be enjoyable. In terms of connections, although previous games in the series weren't famous on this page, I had no major complaints in this Modern Warfare. There are lots of weapons with lots of attachments, each with its pros and cons. But one or two weapons that needed to be nerfed.

We have cooperative modes (1-4 players online or offline) like Classic Survival and Special Ops (where we can use specific weapons, killstreaks and other things) where we have to face hordes of enemies of all shapes and sizes. These are challenging modes where we can't let our guard down for a second. The songs are acceptable and the same goes for Graphics (60 FPS stable on Pro). Despite its problems in Multiplayer mode that need to be fixed, overall Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is a good game.

You get that on any type of game like this, The people who moan about it are the ones that like to run around like headless chickens. One thing i dont get? Why have they limited the maps to begin with when there are many you can play with on private lobby? Makes the multiplayer a tad too repetitive at the moment with the same limited maps. That a side the game feels much more like MW1 AND MW2 and not like the COD games of the PS4, XBOX ONE period that all suck. Game Engine has finally been changed from the old tired one they kept using past its sell by date and the ability to play cross platform is a big plus. Expand

Warzone: Unfortunately the childish "Battle Royale" trend has infected the MW experience with "Warzone" which has all but eclipsed everything else the game has to offer.
I've no interest in BR games anymore, and i wish activision would appreciate their base customers instead of jumping on the BR cash-wagon. But whatever, can't expect much from them.

Additional note: What's with all the salty russians complaining over a fictional story they're the bad guys in? Dude, get over it - It's a VIDEO GAME.

Something I think would’ve added more realism would’ve been if the main female character would’ve gotten raped; I mean a female war prisoner in the Middle East that only gets tortured but doesn’t get raped? I think that would’ve touch the public’s heart, they would’ve grown more sympathy for her and it would’ve added more value and sense to the ending, since the way they got rid of the villain was just overkill; you know it’s a bad guy but you don’t hate him, the game never made you hate him.

The graphics were astonishing, during the game there’s a part where you have to sneak in with your team into a building at night and the picture, sound, scenes and development made it look so realistic, that was pure art.

The multiplayer is incredible, it gets you hook up since day one... well after all is a COD game.

I hate the cues tho, they are so distracting, you never know if it’s your teammate that is shouting or an enemy.

The mechanics are great, when you carry a gun it feels like you’re really carrying that gun, the feeling and control is amazing, they have put too much effort into that that I wish more video games would do the same.

In a nut shell, I think it was a good game.

Honestly this is the first time in a decade call of duty actually decided to play at it's own core strenghs and put EFFORT in instead of poorly imitating what used to be superior fps games. And lo' and behold it's actually better than all the other fps games this decade put together! Who'd have thought! Certainly not you Activision that's for **** sure. It succeeds in that it puts fun ahead of everything else. There's never a dull moment, you move from one heart pounding firefight to the next, using every tool at your disposal to gain an advantage, every scenario is coated with enough realism to make it immersive without stripping away the simplistic fun of just shooting virtual bad guys.

You're no one man/woman army in a goddamn Farcry wannabe environment like in battlefield, This is proper shooter material that we've all loved since the beginning, mission based gameplay split up into various gameplay segments that advance the story. The shooting mechanics have been dramatically improved with the added slide, mount and reload-while-looking-down-sights mechanics. The walking pace has also been reduced, resulting in an overall better handling and controls. Also you can sprint for more than three seconds which is good but not recommended unless you're running for cover or away from grenades, you're better off moving slower and checking your corners like a real spec ops agent would. The weapons all feel heavy and impactful with semi-realistic recoil and smoke and sound effects, sweeping the floor with the bb guns of previous COD and BF games(yes I'm still bashing on battlefield cry me a river).

The voice acting is top tier, the lines are delivered with impact and genuine passion which fit well within the beautifully rendered cutscenes. Nothing feels out of place within the confines of the narrative, goes to show that yes, new generation first person shooter campaigns can be pretentious and still be entertaining as hell.

Now moving on to the multiplayer aspect of COD, ok, I'm just gonna stick my foot up my mouth and just say that you're probably better off with battlefield multiplayer. I know i sound like an idiot but even though i prefer COD online vs battlefield online, if you're a new comer from either a non fps genre or battlefield you're gonna get extremely frustrated with cod's online behavior. Campers and miners galore! With the maps designed the way they are; full of nooks and crannies and conveniently covered and hidden vantage points, you're basically asking every player to be a Dickhead. So if you're not used to this brand of multiplayer **** I'd stick to the high ttk trenches of baby battlefield. Which at least is somewhat deterrent of campers. And the maps are significantly better, more suitable for skillful aiming accuracy rather than corner trickery. Though I'm not vouching for battlefield's connectivity on this one, with cod maps compacted as they are, there's less chance of latency than with the huge sprawling 60 player maps of bf. However the player progress is deliciously reminiscent of cod's good old days. Simplistic and full of new items to unlock and customize. No unnecessary monetizations so far during the time of this review, however should they be implemented later, i will come back and reduce the score from 8/10 to 5/10. I do not tolerate microtransactions of any sort in any game other than free to play, i already paid the required sum when i purchased the product. Even if it's just cosmetics, kindly out the damn door with you please. Right well that's that. If you're a fan of story driven first person shooters or even kinda intrested in them i highly recommend the new Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. Ignore the screeching crowd of offended "cod haters". You gotta give credit where it's due and COD earned it's way back on it's throne.

The story was surprisingly decent. Serves as a nice reboot of the MW series and the plot has some good teases/references to the trilogy. The main antagonist could've been developed further. Campaign: Takes place in a FICTIONAL modern war, but uses some real-life past events for some plot points. Russia and other groups in a fictional country in the middle east are the antagonists as London and US forces try to stop the terrorist threat of the use of chemical weapons. Mission design and graphics are top-notch, story is okay. Overall the campaign is enjoyable and one of the better ones in the cod series and I recommend playing it

Multiplayer: Has a variety of modes from 2v2, 6v6,10v10, and 32v32. The gunplay and customization is well done. However, the maps are very weak and lead to slow-paced gameplay. It is very different style of cod right now and I am having more fun in the 2v2 and 32v32 modes because those maps are better.

Spec ops: Have not played it yet, sorry

Overall thoughts: Campaign is fun and worth playing, but not the best in the series. Multiplayer has some good gunplay, but the maps for the traditional 6v6 and 10v10 are not well done and I think its more fun to play 2v2 and 32v32.

The latest in the yearly rotation of Call of Duty releases is a call back to the fourth instalment which dominated First Person Shooters.

The campaign isn't exactly the greatest story ever told but it doesn't need to be. Call of Duty campaigns are mostly about gripping gameplay segments sometimes making the player feel like they are a cog in a greater war machine against a formidable thread. It's entertaining, graphically outstanding and nice to play.

The Multiplayer. Now this where Call of Duty shines but this time around there are a plague of issues from keeping the game well balanced. It is nice to see however that they have completely overhauled the standard multiplayer modes and it feels new and exciting. The time to kill is shockingly low and you will often be taken out before you can get a couple of rounds down range to retaliate. You are not rewarded enough for actively playing the objective and because of this a lot of people decide to sit and wait. The whole MP section needs a deliberate shake up.

It could be to soon for most people to review but I’m sure I’m really impressed. I’ve played cod on and off since Cod 3, I’ve gotten around to trying them all including black ops 4 which I felt did very poorly. In recent when big companies are releasing these major AAA games it usually can go way south pretty fast, and I was originally worried for the franchise because while I certainly understand it’s a pretty commonly played game, I still believe the franchise has a lot to offer that others can’t. Fast, fluid, arcade like shooting, aggressive and exciting animations in something that’s almost reminiscent of old doom or unreal tournament. Modern warfare does this usual formula very well, that’s great and all but to me it went above and beyond in some ways. Recoil, weapon models and most of the usual mechanics like sprinting have been fine tuned to an extent I honestly was thrilled to see. You can basically double sprint (tactical sprint) mounting is much more responsive and recoil is so much more visceral. The sound quality and options of changing so are impeccable as well, I genuinely jump when I’m wearing a headset and bullets wiz past. Its all of these things that make it the usual experience but much more immersive and personal. Also, the create a class and attachment system is unbelievable. Stunning for someone who enjoys customizing firearms in real life. Some familiar voice acting is back and it’s just such a good thing to hear. The sometimes silly overly tactical call outs actually make me really pleased to hear. It what the series is known for, I did manage to clear the campaign on normal, without spoiling anything you will certainly see some of the most brutal scenery in the series yet. If your squeamish understandably definitely turn it off and DONT LET YOUR KIDS PLAY IT (if they can’t handle it) If I were to say that was it I’d rate the game flawlessly, 10/10. And it could be depending on how you view this but there is already some practices that have me just a tad worried. I may be on ps4 but excluding modes from other systems on launch isn’t right to me. Again I may get to experience these things first but i know it isn’t fair, I should also mention we don’t know how clear we are from predatory micro transactions, but since that’s speculation I’ll wait and see. Otherwise I’ve had a few bumps in performance, not a lot but I know Xbox is crashing a bit. These are things if ironed out or clarified would make me believe this is a truly amazing release for call of duty. I recommend it. Expand

Absolutely a great game. The Campaign is absolutely mind blowing, It's very refreshing to see a Call of Duty in this light. You get the sense that with the campaign, the franchise has very much grown up and I can't wait to see where the take it in the next one. My only problem with the campaign was that it was a tad short for me and I kinda felt that at some times it felt rushed. Overall it's still a 10/10 Campaign.

In terms of Multiplayer for me personally it doesn't manage to achieve the greatness of earlier COD games and to be fully honest I'm ok with that. multiplayer is still very fun and I'll be definitely be putting a lot of hours into it. It's satisfying to play and I have no major gripes with it (Maps included).

In terms of why I think this game is worth a 8/10 is that it's been quite a rough launch. Some crashing and lag issues have severely effected the game in these early stages. Furthermore, TTK is a bit on the low side which is a definite change from earlier games. I'm also not that happy with requiring internet to play the Campaign. Depending on how technical issues are addressed in the coming months it could easily become a 9/10 for me. If you're on the fence I'd wait till the holiday season for all the technical issues to get fixed.

Oh and if you're seriously considering buying the game you can ignore the trolls, the astounding visuals of the game merit at least a 3 or 4 even if you hated the story and multiplayer. They haven't played the game.

As far as multiplayer goes, Gun play is great, customisation is the best by far. Camos are perfect in sense of the type of game we are playing. I’m happy grenades are made relevant again (claymores should be nerfed). The maps give a slight feel of maps from MW2&3 but are a bit more poor of a design. Too many LOS to one location and some maps just have too much elevation and camping zones. The maps are made awfully too large, I feel like 6v6 wasn’t kept in mind. Footsteps are way too loud in the current game. Ground war needs more map variety but the current experience is great. In all a good game but lacks good maps which I think makes the multiplayer aspect what it is meant to be. Expand

The story, leverages the parallels of the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan in the 80s and the effects and subsequent effects on the west, it also draws on Russian actions in countries like Chechnya in more recent history to set the stage, and even the actions of Western powers since 90s too. For those claiming the Gulf War 1 Highway of Death incident the Americans killed Civilians, you should check your sources. There were no civilian casualties, the only people on that road where Iraqi Army, the same Iraqi Army that had invaded Kuwait, the same army that was technically involved in an armed conflict with coalition forces under a UN mandate, it was a valid military target, during a legal military action. Yes, the story may leverage this incident as inspiration however, this is more akin to incidents during the Second World War where fleeing civilians would be attacked from the air by Axis forces.

So many people seem to be forgetting this is fiction, there are scores of books, TV Shows, Films that have similar stories and no one is slating these.

All in all, having completed the entire story in about 5 hours, it felt too short, definitely could have been a little longer, has a few interesting twists to it.

Singleplayer is simply awesome. This is the most intense campaign in a CoD game I've played, and one of the most intense in an FPS in a long time. This is brilliant.
Some will dumb it down to "America, f*ck yeah, Russia bad, we save the day". They just didn't get it.
The KEY point imo is that Russia in the game IS America in real life. America IS doing what we see Russia do in game (sure, maybe not to the point of hanging people in the streets, but it's a caricature, exaggerated for the purpose of the game). Keeping this in mind, the campaign is an amazingly critical take on the modern conflicts in the Middle East, and their repercussions in the Western World. Just like CoD4 was spot on with the "modern" part in 2007, this is exactly on point with modern war.
One BIG thumbs down is a glaring issue with stuttering in the cutscenes. This is unacceptable, and the cutscenes are garbage because of it. Which is a damn shame because they look AMAZING. There is no excuse for this garbage, this seems to be happening to a lot of players and there's no way this could've gone unnoticed if they tested the game properly.

For the Multiplayer part. Oh boy. I'm gonna preface this by saying it, the modern CoD games are garbage for me. The game peaked at MW2/BO and it's been going downhill ever since.
This changes with this game. I'm getting vibes from the original MW games. And that's coming from someone with something like 40 days of in game time on MW2.
I get that this is not for everyone though. If you've never played the OG CoD games, then this is very different from the current way they do things. Exit the map design where you can realisticly only encounter ennemies at like 5 different spots, and welcome multiple routes and flanks, maps where you can stick to the close quarters encouters of buildings and tight roads with a shotgun, or find high ground spots with lots of visibility all around to snipe people. Bye bye generic laser weapon number 25, and welcome back to simple yet effective guns that feel like your shooting when you pull the trigger (by the way, sound design? Amazing). From what I understand, this makes the game much slower than the recent CoD games, which is a good thing in my opinion, but can for sure be a turn off for others.
Basically, I can sum it up like this: If you spent your highschool years on the MW trilogy, and got turned off by the subsequent games cause they just didn't feel the same, that's the game for you.
The addition of the Ground War mode, a 32 vs 32 "battlefied like" game mode is also a welcome thing.
Oh, and crossplay is a thing. You can play with your friends no matter what system they have (and you can farm controller peasant with your glorious superior PC hardware. You can turn off crossplay if you're a controller player and you (righfully) don't want to get assblasted by PC players on keyboard and mouse).

Finally on the "things that aren't really singleplayer, or multiplayer", I was pleasently surprised with the stability at launch. I didn't get any lag online, the game is gorgeous and runs at a stable 60 fps (on my 1060 at least).
I also didn't get any crash or issues that you might "expect" from playing a game at release
I already mentionned it, but the cutscene stuttering thing is unacceptable from a AAA game. Hopefully this can be patched quickly. But to be honest that's the only problem I've had with the game.

As a final note, I'd say that I'm pleasantly surprised by the lack of BS cash grab from the game. There's no season pass, no loot box, no DLC, no nothing. I've not once been prompted to pull my credit card out for any reason, and from what I could see the only things you can buy are skins for the guns (and like charms and stuff to hang from your weapon) or temporary XP boost.
BUT, I'd say, be cautious. Activision and others have been known to wait a couple of month before rolling out the BS cash grabs in their game, so only time will tell. For now at least, I'm having a blast.
I'll give it an 8, because of the stuttering issue and the balancing online that can be improved, even if it's already decent imo.

Remember once and for all - it is only your right to buy the game or not, to play it or not, to discuss or to remain silent. If you don't like the game, just walk away. To say that a game has an overt anti-Russian implication is self-deception because "Call of Duty MW" only reflects what is actually happening in the world (of course with new ideas and assumptions).
P.S. Russia's wars in Chechnya, Russia's wars in Georgia, Russia's war on the territory of Ukraine, illegal annexation of Crimea, hostilities in Syria ... and you get offended when an army that commits violence and crimes against citizens of OTHERS countries on THEIR territory is called terrorism - is so miserable.

The multiplayer also seems to do pretty much everything right for now, giving players an enormous amount of customization and exceptional gunplay.

Overall Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is a good title that is marred by the expectations that the Modern Warfare name brings with it. The campaign has some really stellar gameplay moments that are brought down by the mediocre plot. Multiplayer was fun but felt a bit like the competition’s output (despite there being no Battlefield release this year) which may be a turn off for some. I don’t think Modern Warfare 2019 has done anything to make me rethink waiting for substantial price drops to play Call of Duty campaigns, because clearly multiplayer is still Activision’s main focus and that’s just not where I get my kicks.
