People buy these games year after year, even when they know things don't change that much for the simple fact of having different maps. Yes we can buy map packs...but it's still something new. If you are expecting a great change...nope, not here.

The game is still fun to play as COD has always been. It deserves better ratings than what it is being given.

Yes I am still waiting for the breakthrough in some game to take me away from my COD fix. Nothing ever compares to the fast pace of the COD franchise. This game is an 8/10 and still waiting for something else.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Call of Duty: Advanced warfare is a new and fresh idea of the already established game play, the graphics look great, the sound stunning, and the setting is just amazing, but it got allot of negative sides as well.

Lets start with the single player, its amazing, but the story is to predictive, it had no emotional feel like the other call of duty (for example blackops 1 and 2) had, it felt like it lacks the passion of a good story, that the writer was a bit lazy, it lacked the feels, emotion, and best of all, a good story line.
You basically got hurt in the fight, get discharged, then someone give you another chance, just to see your arm being beaten up with a tire iron by the same person who gave you a second chance, you fight for survival, and that person dies in the end. When you yawn in any game with a campaign with story telling, its not a story you want to see again.

    Now about multiplayer:

I really was surprised in how well designed the maps were, it was made with great concept of detail, and it felt alive, the exo suit (rather want to call it a "jet pack" in multiplayer) is a great new concept that still need allot of fine tuning to make it being balanced correctly.

The promise of that they will remove the ability to quickscope, was ones again not seen in the final product, the only call of duty made by another company really tried removing that aspect was blackops 1.

At this point, you can call the promises many developers make these days lies, because they are being silently ignored, or not respectfully taken by heart in the final release of the game.

Note to DEV: ONLY make promises you can keep, and want to keep, els it will bite in your ass later in form of a lawsuit.

Now... about the net-code (in normal terms lag).... *put on the serious helmet, and click the belt along the cheek.* ITS PLAIN HORRIBLE, yes, you hear me correctly, its so horrible, the mini map is not in sync with the game, and actually is working in a delayed fashion like a grandpa that tries to keep up with the rest of the packets. I wanted to call CoD ghost bad on this one, but i will nominate this game instead of the golden poo.

In short, the campaign was cliche, short, to predictable, and to emotionless and lazy from the writer.
The mutliplayer aspect of the game is horrible at this state, horrible lag, others seem to see you earlier then you see them, the minimap that displays teammates firing, is delayed by a couple of seconds, and still they think we are retards who belief them when they say they got dedicated servers for match making (like that is anything different from mw2, mw3, or even blackops)

    3 out of 10
(4 out of 10 for the campaign, just to make the writer's lazy butt happy)

A person who is good with the game would have finished it in half the time. I understand that this franchise is geared mostly for customers who never play the campaign, however those who love the single player aspect of it get ripped off by a short campaign. Last year COD Ghost had a paltry story campaign and this year was a bit longer but I wanted more which I did not get. I will trade this game and as far as COD, I am done with the frachise. Expand

"What you are seeing is Advanced Warfare", Something that Kevin Spacey had said during the beginning of the campaign that made the whole game sound badass, but the whole focus here is on the multiplayer that would have players play for countless hours. The Supply drops are interesting to receive, since you wouldn't know what 3 items could be inside, an easy way to exploit your way into getting one is to quickly get yourself killed at the start of any game mode match which is odd, since it works every time.

The graphics are good, it was just not my main focus when I was playing this game or it just didn't stand out to me to start taking a screenshot every sec. The sound, some guns sounded great while some just sounded a bit weak.

What is making this game for me fun? The Exo movement, it was a much notable function that was more then what I was expecting. You could dash on the ground or while in the air in any direction or slam down on an enemy. While in the match it just feels funs jumping and dashing everywhere to kill other people doing the same thing, it's pretty arcadey, which I like.

You could still play split-screen along with a friend online which is a positive of me.

There are no kill streaks, It's now called score streaks. It's when you gather enough points for your uav or something. There are not that many since you can now instead upgrade your score streak in multiple ways, like for the Uav you can have it last longer and/or send it orbital where it can't be shot down and/or have it detect where enemies are pointing and much more. It would cost the streak more, but it would make it a lot better, so it actually happens to have more score-streaks then you may have thought. A feature that I happen to appreciate highly, since it rewards for those who support or just follow the objectives.

Pick 13, not sure if that was a good decision, but it does work well. You can remove your score streaks for more points or add another one, which is nice. Other then that it's the same as it was in Black Ops 2.

Good Job Sledge Hammer, you managed to create a CoD that's fun to play.

This game is fun but... specifically in the multiplayer, which is the most played part if the game, there is constantly horrible spawns. This is nowhere near a traditional Call of Duty, but it is similar in the likeliness. Also there is a lot of bullsh*t that goes on in this game but things promised were never granted.

The game has a different feel and great learning curves, those who adjust do well (This is why the so called 'pub-stompers' aren't doing well). Well I don't see what's so bad about this game.

The story is full of plot holes and is laughably predictable, and it's over quickly. It felt like this was the shortest Call of Duty campaign I've played, and I've gone through all of them. I wasn't planning on playing this one at all, but I got it loaned to me and I was pleasantly surprised to find things were actually finally changed. The exo-suits your character wears gives you enhanced mobility, and the whole pace of the game feels more frantic than previous installments. Personally, I feel like it's a little too fast paced for my tastes, with multiplayer and survival being no different. The franchise has embraced it's twitch shooter niche and gone into full on sprint with it, which makes it feel like it should be its own franchise instead of having the "Call of Duty" title. I have to say, the sound is amazing, the best I've heard from a video game to date, and an impressive number of enemies are seen on screen at once, however the problem is they're nearly indistinguishable from the background in many cases, and I found myself relying on target enhancer items to be able to see them, which resulted in me just shooting at the glowing red things versus someone who looked like an enemy soldier, also combat doesn't feel as satisfying for some reason. I can't put my finger on it, maybe it's because the sounds outdo the visuals in some places, but it just seems like they could have done better in a lot of spots, these games are all on a schedule now and I think this one could have really benefitted from a little more time, and ended up being something really special, but you really don't get a lot of game for your 60 dollars. While it has great production values, the majority of call of duty is just shooting, and for me it didn't feel fun, the sneaking mission in the middle of the game felt a lot more fun, and that says something about your shooter. When all is said and done, this is a step in the right direction, although it's not enough to bring me back into the franchise, your mileage may vary though, check it out if you liked the movement mechanics of titanfall but don't want to have to deal with giant robots. What really annoys me is the fact that you aren't free in the game, you have these game scenes that you HAVE to do it, like a movie. So it doesn't matter what you do, it is just a script that you have to follow and that's not why I like to play games.

I'll start off by saying Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare is leagues ahead of the abomination that was Call of Duty: Ghosts and I think that doesn't surprise anyone. While the story is the typical CoD story of giant set pieces and relative predictability, during my time with the campaign I found myself just relaxing and enjoying shooting people in the head which is more than I can say for the last two Call of Duty games.
Online multiplayer is more or less of what i've come to expect from the franchise; Nine year olds screaming into their mics whenever I kill them the same way twice, the inevitable quick scopers(which should have been fixed by this point in the series) the constant lag problems i face with those who have a poor connection and the occasional nice guy who is a pleasure to play with.

Overall this game gets an 8/10 because while its more of the same in terms of Multiplayer the set pieces in the campaign and the EXO suits make playing this year's CoD just that much more entertaining and therefore deserving of some more play time this holiday season.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Call of Duty has been in a state of decline after many entries, each with the same formula and same approach to gameplay. While Treyarch constantly brings new ideas to the party (peaking with franchise best, Black Ops II), Infinity Ward hasn't innovated too much since MW1. Sure the two sequels were great, but Ghosts was a massive disappointment for the first entry on new gen consoles. It just felt like COD at its most basic, with minimal improvements in multiplayer and co-op and none in the campaign. Advanced Warfare is basically the Modern Warfare of the 8th generation and it is an amazing first effort for Sledgehammer Games, who were never so much of a B-List Team as they were regarded as the C-List. The new Exo suit, the brilliant campaign, the highly improved multiplayer and the enjoyable Exo survival makes this the biggest, best and most badass Call of Duty around and the greatest entry so far (surpassing BLOPSII as my personal favourite).

Starting with the campaign and oh what a campaign it is! Set in the year 2054, you play as Private Mitchell- a good soldier who enlists with his friend to fight some bad guys. While taking on a mission in North Korea, the fight turns bad and Mitchell's buddy is killed after a sacrifice to save lives. Left crippled and without hope, Mitchell doesn't expect to be contacted by Jonathan Irons- the father of his friend Will. Head of an elite private military corporation known as Atlas, Irons is responsible for the technological advancements within the current wars. Contracted as a soldier of Atlas, Mitchell begins his fight to root out out terrorism and evil overseas. However, not all is as it seems at Atlas and Kevin Spacey (I mean Jonathan Irons) may not be as genuinely good as he first appears...

The campaign is another 8-10 hour globetrot, packed with set pieces and quick-time events. While this may sound like another design similar to Ghosts, the story actually hits some emotional beats and the performances are unbelievably good, helped along by amazing motion capture that makes full use of the next gen graphics engine at hand. The story itself also confronts some serious themes, like the horrors of war and the will to stop fighting. The collectible intel also adds more context to the actions oof Irons and sheds light on the narrative in interesting ways. But while the great villain and well written story elevate this past all previous campaigns of the series (including BLOPSII), it's the set pieces you're here for and boy are they good. The vehicle sections are excellent, with hover bikes, a submarine-like speedboat and a fast tank. There is an assault in Antarctica, an open ended grapple/stealth section and the final sequence where you storm in with giant Titan-like suits. This is all well and good, but I wouldn't be commending this so much if its gameplay wasn't so damn good...

The exo suit adds new layers to the combat and the new abilities make this feel like an accomplished sci-fi shooter. The brand new gadgets are amazing, with variable grenades that bring choice to your shootouts. You can gain the ability to slow down your shooting like "Bullet Time" or you can cloak yourself to add some stealth. Double jumping and boosting (not the MP kind) are so fun to do and stomping on foes from above gets better every time. Shooting is relatively the same, but you don't have to kill everyone with a knife or a gun with all these well thought out options.

The improvements stretch to multiplayer as well, with the exosuit making the fast pace of COD even faster. There are new modes like the enjoyable Uplink, along with plenty of playlist variants such as one that removes the exosuits from the players for a more traditional experience. The new maps are bigger and better than ever before and the new graphics engine makes this one of the prettiest online shooters around. Customization is also given a greater focus, with unlockable gear and large amounts of ways to make your soldier look different. You can check out other people in the lobbies, with their fancy gear gained from supply drops. Similar to the BF battlepacks, these are earned periodically and net you cool things like gun variants or pieces of an outfit. There are also co-op scorestreaks and they're even customizable with care packages that can be loaded with bombs and cloaks. In short, this is the best multiplayer offering of COD yet and one of the best online experiences this year.

There's also survival mode, with a dedicated online component, multiple maps and plenty of options to keep on going through the waves. There's a special surprise at the end of it all and this can add at least 4 hours to the run time if you want to unlock everything. It isn't quite as accomplished as the MW3 variant or as addictive as the famous Zombies, but it's worth a play.

Advanced Warfare is a large and varied shooter, constantly impressing you with not only its graphics and gameplay, but also the heart at the centre!

COD needed a refresh, and AW brings it.....somewhat, the future setting is good, the exo suit is a refresh, the story is OK, but the online feels all the same, but the graphics and try at something different makes it a worthwhile purchase but I really found the online the same old. 8/10

I don't get all the 1's and 0's. This is hardly a bad game. People complain that it is the same call of duty. Well... what do you expect when you buy the game with the same title every year? Besides, there is way more change here compared to every FIFA or Madden iteration. There was nothing wrong with the call of duty formula. I just buy a cod game every couple of years so I don't get sick of it.

Year in, year out I see the same comments on the franchises such as CoD and FIFA, where people's main criticism is 'more of the same'. If the formula is kept the same - people complain about repetition. If the game is changed too radically -Year in, year out I see the same comments on the franchises such as CoD and FIFA, where people's main criticism is 'more of the same'. Whilst this is an entirely valid comment, I'm not sure what people expect from a well established franchise that sells millions of copies every year. If the formula is kept the same - people complain about repetition. If the game is changed too radically - people complain that the game is no longer the series they know and 'love'.

This is where CoD: AW get's the balance brilliantly. Without straying too far from the well trodden path of the CoD franchise, there isn't much wiggle room for a new developer to innovate. However, Sledgehammer have found the gap and exploited it beautifully with the new movement mechanics of the exo suit.

Make no mistake, the new changes in movement style results in a much harder FPS experience for the standard, casual gamer. The pace of the game is fast, and mastering the dashes and boots to effectively traverse maps and areas is difficult to become accustomed to. But with some persistence, the game becomes very rewarding, but most importantly FUN.

I find the word 'fun' to be the key one here. For me CoD has not been at all enjoyable since Black Ops, with Ghosts being the lowest troughs the series has seen. AW on the other hand, drags the series out of the muddy valley and at least onto the hillside of a peak, if not quite the apex.

Note this game is far from perfect. Still Activision have decided not to provide dedicated servers for the franchise (which I find completely astounding), and so issues with lag, connectivity and the much-hate 'bendy-bullets' persist. Sadly, this seems to have become somewhat of a trademark to the CoD series.

There are some odd implementations from the developer (which are being patched) such as equipment that can only be used for a limited time, and incredibly hard to attain camos (now patched), but overall, many of the new implementations work.

You may have noticed that I have been almost exclusively dedicating my writing towards multiplayer here, however, I have completed the campaign and there's not much to say here. It's the standard story line of most CoD (and modern FPS for that matter) games, with token missions and segments aplenty. One major point in the favour of the campaign is the cutscenes. The next gen power takes these to an entirely new level and they look incomprehensibly realistic.

The game as a whole (including in-engine) looks nice, but this is to be expected of a AAA title nowadays. The sound and music are solid and fairly immersive; especially when in an intense battle online or solo.

In spite of the glitches, mild gripes and standard online issues, CoD: AW is a well built FPS with a new edge for the series. Don't be fooled, this is not a revolution in gaming in any way shape or form. But it does what it says on the tin, it's Call of Duty, and all-in-all, CoD: AW is fun. For me this is the most important thing; after all, isn't that what games are meant for?

Remember how on BO2 you would empty a clip into the back of someone, only for them to turn around and down you in one bullet? You'd then watch the kill cam and find out that you never even actually fired? Yeah? Well that s**t is rife here. Possibly the most infuriating few hours I have spent with my PS4. I have a 100mb connection and should not be being punished for having so. The people with crap connections are reporting zero problems with the game. You fudged up your net code sledgehammer!!! Pros
+ Campaign missions are a blast with lots of different super-tech death machines to use.
+ Campaign is shorter but I felt more engaged to play it than the other CODs.
+ New abilities like the grapple hook, boost jump, overdrive, shield, etc. are game changing in the whole way a COD game is played.
+ The graphics in this game are unbelievable.
+ Multiplayer is as fun as ever with new modes and customization to try out.
+ Shooting controls are fantastic and majority of guns are very usable and varied.
+ Exo Survival is a fun co-op mode
    + Kevin Spacey!
+ Even though DLC, when zombies come, friendships will be strengthened.

    Cons
    -Short Campaign nevertheless
-Utter Waste of having Troy Baker voice act
    - The Campaign ending (What the hell?)
    - If you hate all COD games, this game won't change anything
    - Only three modes is my biggest problem again concerning a cod game.

Score: 8.1/10 (Rounded to a 8/10) Just because it is COD doesn't mean it is bad! Fun game that should be played before judged.

Calls of Duty games have been stale for a while with no major changes in the yearly franchise. The multiplayer was always the true strength in the series while the main campaigns were always forgettable and I was excited to see if Call of Duty Advanced Warfare could step it up and make the series interesting again.

The story is set in 2054; a world filled with drones, large machines and advanced weapons. The story talks about protagonist Jack Mitchel, a marine who is faced with a tragic event at one of his missions which leads to his discharge because of his injuries. During a funeral, we are introduced to Jonathan Irons, played by Kevin Spacey, a finder and COO of a private military corporation called ATLAS.

The first thing you will notice is the addition of various high tech futuristic gadgets that are interesting because they change the flow of the game. One of them is the new exoskeleton suit that allows players to boost jump, dash in multiple directions while on the ground and air and invisibility which is used for stealth missions. The exoskeleton also gives you the ability to wall climb and you will have a grappling hook, a gadget which allows you to reach high places.

Sadly, many interesting features are only limited to certain events during the campaign with gadgets such as the grappling hook are not even available in the multiplayer which is a big shame. The combat still feels very similar which isn’t a bad thing with the gunplay feeling slick and realistic making killing off enemies more rewarding. Some cool grenades worth noting are a tactical grenade which temporally stun and shows enemies through walls after exploding. And the smart grenade which is fun to use because once thrown it will fly into the air and towards an enemy.

The main campaign is around 7 hours and you will be taken to several world locations each with its unique set pieces. From over the top action to some good stealth mission’s you’ll do all sorts of things from riding many vehicle, blowing things up with a talk to jet flying. The action a usual is very fun and even though the story is better than previous instalments, it is still an overall weak story.

The only element that saves it from sinking is the addition of Kevin Spacey who makes Jonathan Iron a powerful and ambitious man into an interesting and entertaining character who steals the show at every scene. The fantastic voice work by spacey makes Iron stands out and believable. This alone makes you want to continue through the story to see the conclusion.

The true star in COD is the multiplayer, with more than 10 game modes from domination to survival co-op and 13 different maps. The multiplayer has a couple of new modes and one of them that I found interesting is uplink, a fun mode that mixes a bit of capture the flag and basketball with guns. The addition of the exoskeleton in the multiplayer as usual adds more variety in the gameplay because you can customize it depending on your strategy and mastering it will surely earn you a lot of kills.

The introduction of the supply drops is a brand new reward system that earns
you items such as character gear for more customization and reinforcements that gives you boosts and perks which allow you to gain the upper hand during battle.

Many people might have decided to take a break from the call of duty franchise as the last couple couple of games weren’t very good but Call of Duty Advanced Warfare is still an overall fun game that is better than previous titles and a step forward in the series

But to be honest this is one of the first COD's in a long time to actually impress me, and make me feel my money was well spent. The last COD to do that for me was MW2.

So lets first talk Campaign (without spoilers). The story was ok, it could have been better. But it was very good looking and well performed. The actors did an amazing job, the cutscenes were mind blowing, and the missions were pretty good. Nothing Special but a good campaign.

Now lets talk Coop. Now the Coop for now is only Exo Survival. This mode is fun, but is alos a challenge. Most people did not want t play this mode until they heard of the zombie wave. But to get to the zombie wave, you have to play over 200 rounds of Exo Survival. The Mode isnt horrible and if you like it the rounds will go by fast. Were also supposed to get an actual Zombie Mode in DLC, and i know it sucks that you HAVE to ge the Season Pass to play Zombies but well its too bad. Hopefully Zombies will be just as good or better than Treyarchs Zombie Mode.

Now for the main part of the Review, Multiplayer. The Multiplayer is pretty damn good. After the update for the Lag Issues, the game has gotten much better. The spawns are not as bad as people think. Ranking up seems much faster than previous CODs, there isnt a HUGE amount of guns to pick from, but you should find your favorite very quickly. Its really what you should expect from a COD game. Other than the Exo Suit, the game isnt really innovative. But thats not a bad thing, they made it right, COD now requires a little more skill with having the Exo Suit in play. Your still going to have Campers, Drop Shotters, Quickscopers, and anything else you hate. So if you cant get pass the dicks in the community of COD, or you have a **** Internet connection dont buy this.

This isnt a reskin but it also didnt recreate the genre. If you enjoy COD its a must buy, if you hated all the previous Entry's its not for you. If your mainly a single-player guy its not for you, if you enjoyed Titanfall you MAY like this

I'll preface this by saying I have loved and played every Call of Duty except Ghosts(didn't play it).

I've put over 100 hours into Call of Duty 2, MW, and MW2 with significant time in Black Ops 1 and 2. I felt really disappointed by this iteration. I've always have slight frustrating games of Call of Duty, but the highs were always enough to get me back. With this it wasn't.

I've always have slight frustrating games of Call of Duty, but the highs were always enough to get me back.

With this it wasn't. The mechanics are fine, guns seem balanced, and I really like the direction they tried to take. Unfortunately I feel like the game is ruined by flawed map design.

The maps in MW and MW2 were really what put those games on top. You had relatively symmetrical maps with the action forced to key choke points.

Advanced Warfare really fails in this area as action can happen anytime and anywhere. Also because they don't force the direction in any way with map design you can go minutes with seeing an enemy.

The map design also leaves you very exposed while you are trying to do your cool Exo moves. I always felt like my deaths were from me getting shot from behind or dying when I had no chance of recovery or response.

So many times I would start a fire fight only to be killed by an enemy that had spawned behind me.

TL;DR Good concept, but flawed map design and respawns ruin a potentially great experience. Would rather just play Titanfall again.

They brought back the Black Ops concept of picking items in a limited amount of slot, which provide for great class building and a very expansive choice suited to your preferences.

The multiplayer does suffer from some problems though. Mainly, there will be some points in a match where connectivity drops dramatically and you are left in a "rubber band" motion, where you are just skipping back and forth, but I assume this will be resolved very soon. Some of the weapons suffer from being very bland and boring, but this is the case in just about every Call of Duty in one way or another.

All together, the multiplayer is a great improvement compared to last years installment of the Call of Duty franchise. While some may judge it for being a Titanfall and COD lovechild, its a must-play for fans who love fast-paced action,

After the most recent COD's, I was at a point where I was about to phase out of this series because the franchise was becoming the same game repackaged every year, but I commend Sledgehammer for giving life to this dying franchise. I've never been great at multiplayer on COD but this game has made me feel like a god playing it. If you get someone in your sights then they are dead. But the same goes for the other player. They get you in there sights, you're dead. Its way too easy to kill here.
There doesn't seem to be any skill in the game. Just run & gun.
    Ranking is too easy.
In my 1st game i ranked up to level 3 and by the end of my 1st night playing (approx 3 hrs) i was level 20.

The exo-survival is the weakest point of the title. It is essentially a horde mode in which you fight against enemies with exo-suits.It is a good time with friends but repetition spoils the fun at the end.It is here to provide an extra level of strategy and present a new challenge to fans of horde mode.

The multiplayer is a breath of fresh air for the franchise since it uses new gameplay mechanics that make the game more fast paced and fun to play. However, there are several issues that will hopefully be sorted out through patch support.Gun variety is absent at this point as only 2-3 weapons seem to be really effective.Exo abilities are not very useful and scorestreaks lack lethality. The game had a rough launch with a lot of lag but I can safely say that the PS4 online experience is the smoothest after the 2 connection patches that came out. I also played the game on Xbox One but I decided to review it on the ps4 section since multiplayer is working properly on this version of the game.As more consoles are sold in all regions connection will be evened out but I'd give the edge to the ps4 just from personal experience.(this is the first time I am satisfied from a CoD game connection wise on psn because all previous CoDs seemed to have worse ports on ps3/ps4).Lag or no lag,the game is fun to play and difficult to master.

    VERDICT:
    +Spectacular Campaign
    +Fun Multiplayer
    +New mechanics

    -Lack of depth
-Not ready out of the box

The same CoD formula still underlies the multiplayer aspect, mostly running and gunning with quick kills and deaths, however the killstreaks have been vastly toned down compared to previous installments.

The campaign does add new features into the gameplay, things like threat grenades, which allow you to see enemies through walls, or new gun add-ons which briefly display enemies infront of you when aiming down the sights. The jump pack gets used a decent amount, and allows for variation between the usual; enter room, gun down some goons, repeat. It's still generally very similar to previous installments however, around an 8 hour campaign, mass explosions, saving the world etc, don't expect anything that new or exciting. But, if you like the CoD series, this is a decent game.

Personally, I've never enjoyed jetpacks, double jumping etc on FPS games, so the EXO suit completely spoils the game for me personally. This is not welcome in any COD imo. Even on classic game modes where the EXO jumping is taken out, the maps are cack as they are mainly designed for use with the EXO suit.
The guns are awful, the SMGs pretty much feel the same, the ARs feel the same. All that changes is the fire rate between them, they all handle the same, or so it felt when I was playing it. They all carry approx 3 bullets per life, you have to have scavenger as a 'perk' to go on even a 5 kill streak. If you suppress your weapon as I do, then you may get a 3 kill streak.
The kill streaks are poo anyway, so I was happy getting UAV after UAV.

Graphics-wise, it's pretty much what we've come to expect from a Call of Duty game; it's quite good, but nothing spectacular. The single player campaign is very predictable, and the term "on-rails experience" certainly applies to this game, just as much as any previous installment in the franchise. With that being said, the campaign is still a fairly enjoyable experience, as long as you don't mind staying within the mission perimeter/following the squad leader at all times. Personally, I found it to be quite frustrating that the mission would end and automatically restart every time I moved slightly outside the mission area.

The multiplayer experience felt quite refreshing, to me, but it certainly doesn't appeal to everyone. Advanced Warfare is based around the use of the boost mechanism and "exo-abilities", and it takes a little while to get used to. How well you'll perform online, is directly affected by how well you've mastered the use of these new features, and that's something that's likely to put a lot of people off this game. This new way of moving about the online maps, has allowed the developer to add more layers to the maps. You can now easily get on top of balconies and obstacles in a flash, and moving from point A to point B is easier and faster than ever. The downside to this is that, since the maps now have more layers added to them, and since they now have a diagonal, rather than the popular, linear design, you'll often find yourself in situations where you'll get crowded and fired at from several angles, at the same time. Some people won't mind this, but it certainly makes playing online feel more chaotic and unpredictable, compared to previous Call of Duty games.

All in all, Advanced Warfare is a pretty good FPS game that does a few things that haven't been done in this particular franchise before, but the new features will most definitely alienate some veteran players and fans of the retro-style Call of Duty games. Sledgehammer games have taken one step in a direction that's completely new to the Call of Duty franchise, and I suspect that whether people will enjoy Advanced Warfare or not, is a direct result of whether they think too much was added to the game, or maybe too little? Only time will tell if it was a good call by Sledghammer to "sit on the fence" with this game, rather than going in a completely new direction, or simply sticking to a successful formula.

The MP is fluid and the survival mode, while bland, is fun for a short time. Which is fine for me, as I don't play COD for longer than an hour or two anyways. It's worth picking up, and offers a fun time. Plus if you're worried about the changes, it even has a classic playlist! So you can play COD how you like it. The supply drops at the end of games adds a bit more of an incentive to play as well.

It's still COD at the core, not the greatest game. Though it's been beaten with a stick. AW is very welcomed, and I even applaud it for doing something new. I would have rather have zombie mode than survival, and hate the fact it'll be DLC. The new guns are quite fun to fool around with, even a couple of new perks. On the PS3 it's laggy as hell, buggy too. I played it for 2 hours, and it will now sit on the shelf while I play Black Ops 2.

Campaign is good with a decent story (nothing new but decent enough), online is laggy to the point of unplayable, no dedicated servers and unless you have got a ridiculously fast internet speed dont bother else you will always be 1/2 a second behind on gunfights (which is bad even if your good) spawning is also ridiculously poor you will spend most of your time getting shot from behind.Campaign is good with a decent story (nothing new but decent enough), online is laggy to the point of unplayable, no dedicated servers and unless you have got a ridiculously fast internet speed dont bother else you will always be 1/2 a second behind on gunfights (which is bad even if your good) spawning is also ridiculously poor you will spend most of your time getting shot from behind. Recommend to pick it up used/cheap for campaign only and if you have mega fast internet MAYBE a little multiplayer. Expand

It is a typical CoD game. The exo suits add a fun aspect, but the multiplayer has no lasting appeal to it. I spent 2 weeks on MP and i'm completely sick of it. The campaign is fun and definitely worth a play through. The Exo Survival in nothing like zombies, and it's extremely boring. Nothing keeps you hooked on the game, and within a week you'll be regretting your purchase.

Best single player campaign ever made in a FPS. However Search and Destroy (my favorite multiplayer game mode) is now unplayable. Next year I just want to see another game set in the past!

I've been playing the franchise since CoD2 (PC), and still believe that COD4 (again, PC) was one of the last greats. The idea of futuristic CoD didn't really appeal to me at first (I still think COD4 was as far into the future (present?) as they should've taken it), but with an open mind, I'm really enjoying it.

The visuals are beautiful, framerates are always consistent regardless of the action going on, the audio is dry and wet when appropriate, the lighting is gorgeous, and the mechanics, although new in certain areas, allow anyone who has played any of the previous games to jump in and not end up last on the scoreboard. The maps seem better designed and less linear and with the addition of the exo abilities, allow players to get to new heights without having to glitch or use other means to access vertical areas.

I think as the game has evolved, the create-a-class menu and options has been over-complicated and overwhelming, but AW seems to have simplified this to a degree. A better explanation as to what component does what would be nice, but tinkering with things gets the job done.

For those who claim the game is a re-skin, or re-x, understand that it's still Call of Duty, just like racing games will still revolve around you driving a car on a track. If this is something that one can't get over, then it's time to move on. For those that enjoy the multiplayer experience of past CoD's, you'll likely be pleasantly surprised.

Online PvP feels great and the gunplay flawless. You move fluidly around the arenas with the greatest of ease using verticality to escape, evade and flank the enemy players. Boost jump is an amazing addition to your arsenal allowing you to dodge enemy attacks or close the gap to rush an opponent. This carries over into coop too. The new exo challenge mode is great fun!

The campaign is excellent too, but still leaves me feeling a little uninspired unlike some of the earlier games in the series. Where this game lost its first point with me is the writers inability to move away from the team murica mentality this series seems to have adopted over the last few years. The second point it dropped in my eyes is the AI. It's never changed in 5-6 years. You're AI teammates are quite pointless and enemy AI only seems to be able to see you in all situations both as a lone wolf or as a single member as a large team.

I'm really glad to see a return to form for CoD both on and offline and hope that other studios developing other games in the franchise can keep the momentum going that was lost with black ops and ghosts.

Mostly the same? Not at all. This is probably the best entry to the COD franchise that I've seen since the original Black Ops. Grant it, I haven't played any Modern Warfare game or Ghosts, so maybe I'm just not burned out of it just yet, but I loved this game for the most part. Multiplayer is of course lots of fun, with character customization being my favorite part. Lots of neat details to it. Some of the maps seem lacking for me, but other than that I'm enjoying this game fairly well. Don't buy into the stereotype hatred, it makes you look sheepish. This is a good game, plain and simple. I'll say that this is a must-have for new COD players and dedicated fans alike.

I fail to see how this game gets so many zeros. Look at it realistically; the game is an excellent addition to the Call of Duty franchise, despite some flaws. It borrows a few aspects from science fiction games such as Destiny and Halo, and many criticise it for that. The Campaign takes away some good features that were introduced in Black Ops 2, such as customized loadouts and somewhat branching storylines, but adds some good features of its own such as the upgrade system, which works quite well. The campaign itself is way better than Call of Duty: Ghosts (take that for what you will), it features enjoyable missions and mission structure. The exosuit introduces some interesting abilities, such as overdrive abilities, riot shield, hover and other abilities that allow you to play the game to a whole new level. Comparing it to previous Call of Duty games, yes it is somewhat similar, but if you liked the previous games, you will definitely like this one. Exo Survival is another welcome addition, similar to Modern Warfare 3's survival mode, but slightly more complex. Exo Survival introduces objectives as you play, which you can complete for extra points, and you may be penalised for not doing so. I didn't play much Multiplayer, due to the fact it is mainly comprised of young children these days, but I did enjoy the matches I played. The Sniper-only mode was quite a fun and frantic one. But now, downsides: it is quite similar to previous games, some places seem to invoke a state of "deja-vu", and a lot of the good content (such as zombies) has been ripped out in favour of DLCs, which I continue to hate. I would be a lot happier if Activision made DLCs cheaper, or included some content in the main game. Of course, DLCs will be present in pretty much every game nowadays, so there's not really much point denying it. Safe to say, the people giving this game 1s and 2s are completely exaggerating, and they sadly dishonestly bring down the average. Anyways, I recommend that you find this game for a reasonable price (£20-30). If you like the previous games, you'll enjoy it. If you didn't, it's best to avoid this one. Expand

Advanced Warfare is overall a decent game. It's not mind-blowing the way MW2 was, but neither is it lacking in any egregious way.

The campaign is adequate, but the story is especially silly. As the series drifts farther and farther away from real-world events, the stories becoming increasingly ridiculous. On a raw, action-based level, the missions are fun enough. However, the on-rails

The campaign is adequate, but the story is especially silly. As the series drifts farther and farther away from real-world events, the stories becoming increasingly ridiculous. On a raw, action-based level, the missions are fun enough. However, the on-rails nature of the campaign is becoming tiresome, as the power of new-gen systems allow quite a bit more freedom. The last level gives a taste of what real freedom would feel like with fast-paced COD action, but it's the only level of its kind. You're still mostly running forward to trigger scripts.

The graphics look good and run at true 1080p/60 FPS. I wish I could say the same about the audio. For some reason, only Treyarch has managed to figure out how to make weapons actually have sound. In AW, nearby enemies and allies all make muffled, tinny popping noises when they fire their weapons, making firefights sound lifeless and suppressed. The folks at Sledgehammer seem to have no concept of how loud guns actually are. Perhaps they need to spend some time at a range.

The multiplayer is relatively well balanced. The exos add a nice variation, making this COD feel truly different. I especially liked how the Exo allows the player to jump on top of buildings and sheds, adding a level of verticality to the firefights that reminds me of Quake III. The new Uplink game mode is fantastic. It's basically rugby with Exos and guns. Thankfully, Ghosts' overcomplicated system of perks has been replaced by a Black Ops II-style "Pick 13" system. Character customization is a mixed blessing. It's fun to choose your own gear, but it makes it harder to tell who's on your side when there are no team-based uniforms whatsoever. Sledgehammer should have partitioned the gear by faction, but they didn't. The sci-fi weapons are entirely unnecessary (and rarely used), and the special exo powers were a nice idea that end up not being terribly useful in execution.

Split-screen and bots both make a comeback, so those who don't care for online competitive gaming have plenty to do. The bot AI is smarter than ever, and you have the full range of weapons available from the start.

Overall, this is a solid game. It's not going to blow your mind, but COD's still the beefiest sandwich at the deli. No one dominates this market forever, but this isn't the year of COD's demise.
