COD: AW feels impressive, but it still lacks.

First things first, whenever you deny it no, the game looks beautiful. Faces look godly impressive, and its environment feels beautiful. Its a next-gen looking game.

And Multiplayer is still fun as well. Adding in its still balanced and yet fun gameplay mixed with a Titanfall free-flowing mechanics. Its a more faster COD. And it feels fresh.

And believe it or not, I'm quite happy that they have this Advanced Warfare feel to it. Sure, its not WWII that its was, and I still wish it went back to those ages, but overall, its cool...

    BUT

The campaign mode. Its GOD AWFULL

Ok, sure, its better then Ghost, I will give you that, but it still feels barebones and rushed. Like all the other ones. First, we are randomly thrown into South Korea to go kill some North Koreans without a "Why?" and then crash into some building and mow down our way through some Koreans. What happens then? Some more BS story.

So overall, its not bad, nor good. This COD is an OK. I only recommend it for its highly addicting multiplayer.

The one point that prevents it from being a 10 is the singleplayer. Dont get me wrong, its quite good, but and it tries to be different (hell yeah, stealth, but only for one mission...) but it feels a bit empty. This campaign is altough much better than all the previous one from Ghosts.

Don't think I'm a COD fanboy because I didn't buy Ghosts and I also have criticism on other COD games, but this one is really, really good in my opinion.

Advanced Warfare brings CoD a really nice, fresh, innovative part. I would recommend this to everybody who likes to play CoD. It doesn't matter if you were ''COD-tired''. You should definitely pick this one up.

To be honest, the game is not horrible. The controls are fluid, the game play is tight, the graphics are shiny and pretty. But when it all boils down, it's still the same old yearly CoD game, with an extra $50 thrown on there for "extra" content that should have either been offered for free, or been included on day 1. This installation into the Call of Duty series really just goes to show how scared Activision and all the Dev companies behind CoD are to really get to work and give us a brand new game. If it isn't clear to you by now that this franchise is only out to take your money and give you the same game every year, then you are either very blind, or you love mediocrity more than anything. If you are a CoD fan boy, you will most likely be happy with this years edition. Because the ability to talk trash and make rude remarks towards other people online is still a very "hip" thing to do. As a matter of fact, it's almost become part of the game itself. The fact that this game is considered a "competitive" game absolutely boggles my mind as well. On a more positive note, if you've got some friends from school, or some buddies at work who are all going to play it, the game is still fun to screw around online with friends, and the leveling/prestige & rewards system always makes you feel like you're accomplishing something. But with games like Destiny, Borderlands, Dragon Age Inquisition (with it's recently announced co-op feature) and many others, this yearly re-hash of the same game will not be enough to keep this game afloat. The gaming community is desperate for a new "great" game. And when these AAA titles keep disappointing us game after game, it makes you wonder what these millions and even billions of dollars are going towards. Expand

Let's start off with some of the things SledgeHammer Games did right with Call of Duty Advanced Warfare, the graphics are brilliant in my opinion, definitely the best looking Call of Duty out there, the sounds are also pretty good, from the sounds of footsteps around you to the gun sounds, it's all good and surprisingly the campaign was enjoyable for what it is, a 6-8 hour long interactive action film, and I don't mean that in a bad way, the voice acting was pretty good mostly from the main protagonist and the main antagonist voiced by Troy Baker and Kevin Spacey, now on to Exo Surival, now for me this mode was a bit of a hit or miss, it can be fun if you're playing it with friends but playing it alone get's boring extremely quick which is why I actually would have preferred to have seen some Spec Ops missions like in Modern Warfare 2 and Modern Warfare 3 and now for the cherry on the top, the online portion of Call of Duty Advanced Warfare, let's start off with the awesome Exo Suits which are really cool and fun to mess around with, but it does get annoying when players just keep Exo boosting their way up onto nearly every rooftop in most maps and park themselves their and pretty much never move, another gripe I have with the Exo Suits is that i'ts almost as if SledgeHammer Games praises campers, if you don't have a certain perk on and you use your Exo Suit so if you Exo Dodge or Exo Boost you will appear on the radar as a water drop type blimp for about a second, but if someone sits in a corner for how ever long they feel well then nothing happens, it's a bit confusing for me personally but maybe someone else can see the meaning behind that, the map designs are pretty good with some odd bad camp fest of maps, just 3 bad ones in my opinion and the rest are pretty enjoyable, the weapons are fairly good, with some overpowered weapons but there really are only 2 overpowered weapons the rest seem pretty balanced, killstreaks are bit of a hit and miss with some being down right useless and some seeming kinda overpowered, perks are alright but nothing game changing and the Exo Abilities there are some fun ones like Exo Stim, Exo Shield and Exo Overclock with the rest being "OK", so my ratings for Call of Duty Advanced Warfare split up into the three modes would be :

    Campaign- 9/10

    Exo Survival-6/10

    Online-7/10

My final score for Call of Duty Advanced Warfare is a 8/10

I don't want to knock the great work that Sledgehammer did. I think the idea is that you're supposed to be so immersed in the action that you don't have time to look around. I just found it and the gameplay to be good, just not spectacular. But (and it's a big but) don't listen to the 0 and 1 star reviews. That's ridiculous. You know the series. You know what to expect. As time has passed I find myself coming back to the franchise less and less. Advanced Warfare has not changed that. COD twitch mechanics are still king here. The maps do not allow any tactical advantages or hot spots. By doing this, this allows the game to be a constant barrage of deaths from behind and a "whoever sees the first person first wins" type mechanic. For people who like a truely fast paced experience this game ups the ante from normal CODs with its EXO suit abilities. The vertical movements allow you an opportunity to dodge opponents, however unlikely. As someone who considers Call of Duty 4 one of the greatest games ever, I only wish AW would revert to a more simpler aesthetic than that of AW. There's a lot of things to consider when outputting your class. This in my opinion takes away from the skill in the game and just brings more of a chaotic game. They have decided to replace the ability to have both tactical and lethal grenades in place of choosing one or the other and outfitting yourself with EXO abilities that are incredibly lame and useless. The graphics in this game are fantastic, facial expression top notch, and Kevin Spacey is great as you would come to expect. All in all, this is the same COD we've been playing for years. After the honeymoon phase of having a new "fresh" title, you realize its all the same. Missions take from past titles, and are recycled. I feel this game is just another flavor of the month game and with such promising titles coming out this November, COD AW is one you can skip or just experience through a rent. Expand

Before in older versions of the game you could feel that you were running around the same layout just with different skin. It got boring very quickly and also it gave ppl using sniper rifles an unfair advantage. Most times you didn't stand a chance against a very skillful player. With COD AW now the playing field is leveled out and the average joe has a chance to shine. Exo movement makes the game fun, different and unpredictable. Snipers don't have the same advantage they once had so there's no more sitting on the spawn and getting kill after kill, now you actually have to earn your score streak. COD ghosts was trash I couldn't play it not for one second online but soon as I played this game it made me feel like I was playing a COD from old, which brought a smile to my face. Change is good! Good points:
    - Solid multiplayer
    - Exos are a good innovation

    Bad points:
    - Solo mode is boring
    - Pay 4 Play zombies
    - Basis coop mode is so poor
    - Not a lot of weapons, and they're not balanced (only 5 or 6 make the difference, the others do not compete)
    - A lot of sh*t killstreaks, that are too easy to unlock in some modes like domination

Today is probably the last time I will play a call of duty game, sadly. It used to be something to look forward to the new maps, new weapons, and various things. I have been playing call of duty since the very first game so yah, I am older now and I don't have the reflexes of the kiddies so my play style is slower and more tactical.
That said, all of the cool stuff that they have previously had in the game has been removed. The maps, the weapons, everything is designed just to keep guys running from one end of the map shooting at each other. No cool new grenades, no more bettys or claymores because too many people whined about getting blown up.
Remember Black ops 2, it had some cool stuff like the microwave emitter and new things like a plantable shield. AW has that too but it's useless against guys flying over the top of it so why even put it in?
They have a 12 round grenade launcher and other things that go boom but they are utterly useless.
On top of all that this game is just dull too. The maps are lifeless, the narrator sounds generic and bored. The music is flat.
All that said I will get to the jumping. I personally do not like it but I can see that some people would. For me, it does not belong in a call of duty game.
Call of duty started out as a game in which you played or assumed the role of various soldiers in various countries from various time periods such as WW1, WW2, Vietnam, etc. With Ghosts, it was just different factions of guys wearing ski masks.
Now with AW it's the titans vs the sentinels? This game is not call of duty anymore.
For all of the guys who complained that all they ever wanted was to run around with only guns you got what you wanted.
But what about the rest of us that liked cool new weapons and gadgets? This game has the wrist firing grenade launcher but they are all pretty much a waste of time. Just window dressing to show that they are there.
They also have a laser weapon that shoots a constant beam which I really thought was cool, until I realized that guys with bullet firing guns were killing me so fast that it made the E1 a waste of a choice.
The kill streaks are a bummer too. Barely anything flying over head because god forbid we upset anyone from a harrier or helicopter making it too hard for people. And no more good turret anymore that fires on it's own, you have to operate it because hey, we really only want a balanced game.
And lets talk about the flaws in the game. First off, every game has like half the players lagging. Secondly, every time someone chats on their mic or breathes it shows up practically in the middle of the screen. It's like they screwed up on the resolution for just the chat info. This is on the PS4 btw, not sure how the X1 looks.
For all of the complaints at least GHOSTS looked and felt like a war game. The game mechanics were bad, people shooting you in one bullet and shooting you from precarious angles that you could never be shot from in reality.
Does anyone remember MW2 and how many cool points on the map people would fight over, or how BLOPS had an elevator or mounted guns. This new COD has none of that. Remember when the stats were built into the game as in BLOPS?
Remember RPG's, The Javelin, and the army of one bag? None of that here. Just vanilla running and jumping and shooting.
For $59 bucks you take a step back to what COD might have looked like in the 80's had better graphics been available. Yet this is supposed to be futuristic warfare.
This game is the lovechild of Unreal tournament, Call of Duty, Halo, And Titanfall. Except it's NOT a good thing. For all of you that are having fun I salute you but think back to the classic COD games like MW2 where it actually felt like you were in combat.
This AW is a kids game, designed to appeal to very young kids with fast reflexes. And if you listen in to the chat lobby it shows.
And before you say it's because I am bad at this game and to get better, I have been pretty solid at these games, even Ghosts which i didn't care for. But this game, it just is not drawing me in and I bet the servers for this game dry up in a couple months.

AW is better than Ghosts hands down, however it does not live up to the hype. Sledgehammer took the ideas of Halo and Titanfall and renamed it COD. This will probably be my last COD game I buy. They had a good run, but everything must come to an end. Keep your money, buy it when it drops in price. When you get it enjoy Call of Duty Advanced Titanfall, I mean Advanced Halo, I mean, well you get it!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Have you ever wondered what Lester the unlikely would ply like if he had powered armour and a gun?
no? Neither did I but sledgehammer games sought to answer that question anyway. CoD:AW, while being a pretty game, with solid voice acting, and all the action and gimmicky moments you expect from the series relies on a "on trick pony" to move the plot along in nearly EVERY FREAKING LEVEL.

    --------------------------------------------------MINOR SPOILERS AHEAD------------------

Nearly every level has one Guaranteed moment where you are somehow stunned, pinned against wall by something, fall into some pitfall and are stunned, get sucker punched as you open a down and Knocked down or out, and something dramatic happens that may or may not move the plot forward. the first time, is admitly cool where you fall off a moving truck but use mag grips (gloves) to catch yourself on the side, jump to another moving vehicle to rip the armor off, grab and toss the driver into a pillar and back on to he previous truck and it's all down hill from there.

Alright right just kill a group of enemies, time to enter the hous...oohhhhnoooo I'm been sucker punched and knocked down for the umpteenth time aren't I badass yuk yuk yuk. Every level save maybe two, never fails. It's like a Survival horror game that tries to use only jump scares every five minutes to bring the horror. It only works once and the novelty wears off pretty fast. . When you have to rely on the same gimmick every level to move your plot forward, it might be time to fire your writer.

My only other complaint about the complain is the friendly fire penalty. The one thing the series has not evolved past from when CoD was a ww2 series. When you are playing on veteran, you often don't have time to check if the guy shooting in your direction is friendly or not. Specially in the wide open areas where the battle has become rather chaotic. On numerous occasions I've had to restart check point having almost completed a task only to have a friendly npc run in front of me as I was shooting at something making me start completely over. Or as I said accidentally shot a friendly cause he was shooting in my general direction as I peeked out from cover and only have a split second to react due to the difficulty I am play on.

Other than the story is pretty good, though it relies on many of the CoD tropes from games prior.
The armor abilities were more subdued than I thought they would be, but it's to the benefit of the setting.
not every game with "power armor" can be Crysis, and thankfully CoD did not try to get.
Sure, there is stealth and increased jump power/double jumping, but you also get a "Sonic" sound attack
That stuns a bit, a riot shield to help you get to that next piece of cover, little strafing boosts to help get you out of trouble, along with a few other neat little tricks.

The weapons feel solid, and sound good. The Grenades have a new trick to them, allowing you to switch it's type on the fly rather than having you use which lethal or tactical or have on you.

The multiplayer is standard CoD fare with added movement abilities thanks to the power armor to spice things up a bit. If you liked the previous games competitive or survival modes then you'll find plenty to be happy with. New kill streaks, some interesting, some not, some brought over previous games.
You also get "supply drops" Which grants new, sometimes temporary items of various sorts.
"modified" varients of guns that fire faster, hit harder, or are more accurate, "supply drops" that occur at
a set interval of your next match and ever armor/gear.

The is one last issue I need to address. the $50 season pass. Activision what kind of crack are you smoking?! I don't care how good your game is, there is no way I'm spending that kind of money for "DLC" I can get a whole other game, maybe even two if I buy used with twice as much content as the DLC. $20 while still pricey, would be a fairer price.

Speaking of armor and gear, a feature that was in ghosts that I enjoyed makes a return, the ability to customize your "operator's" look.
Though the Squads mode does not make a return. Still not being locked into a specific character model
be it male or female is an always welcomed touched.

So, all and all if you are someone whom follows the series with enthusiastic glee then you'll feel right at home. If you hated the games prior, then you still won't find much to redeem it, aside from solid voice acting and pretty visuals, and if you are sitting on the fence then consider renting first.

Plot-wise, America saves the world (again) and that's pretty much it and for me this is the worst offence, it's total propaganda crud. I'm not going to go into the plot details but you may find the villains to be a lot more rational than the good guys. Elysium (I know it's a film) is a good comparison: Both have strange free-world propaganda threads running through them, both have several great but underdeveloped conceptual ideas, both have a few great action sequences, both have terrible characters. Bought this game after the initial release (11/5/14) and I've already returned it to Gamestop for something else. I don't know why I thought that this game would be worth $110, maybe due to all the high, extremely positive reviews and the dramatic advertisements. But it isn't.

If we're comparing this to the older games, such as MW or BO, Advanced Warfare has less guns, half of which are near-worthless in combat. The exo suit makes it almost impossible to strategize or pull off large killstreaks (it's bad when the game alerts you when someone reaches a 5 killstreak and all they get is a UAV) because someone is always shooting you in the back, camping on top of a building, or sneaking around in cloak mode. The game has been reduced to extreme camping (hiding in corners while cloaked/shielded or using all the stealth perks to kill those going by) and rushing, of which neither is a more viable option. If you rush, you're likely to be shot in the back by a camper, and even on a 1 vs 1 fight, the game logic is severely flawed. I've literally put clips into enemies only to have them turn around and put a few bullets into my legs to kill me. I watched one of my teammates knife an enemy twice and then get sprayed by the SN6 (submachine gun). And then the spawn system is so screwed up that you can spawn and die within three seconds, or likewise kill an enemy that was running through the spawn point unknowingly.

The game now favors gamers that play excessively more than ever. It takes forever to get attachments/camos that by the time I had reached level 41 (when I quit), I hadn't unlocked a single camo and I was still uncomfortable with the guns I had unlocked. Going positive was considered me doing really well, and if I did any better it was by using dirty methods, such as the melee(which has increased range) and slide-shooting (using the exo suit's sliding ability to dodge the enemy before spraying them to death).

And though there were thirteen maps in the multiplayer, I honestly can't name any of them, and I played the MP for over six hours. So either the maps were that unmemorable or the game simply liked to play the same maps over and over again. Speaking of their designs, I can say that I didn't have a favorite map, but simply maps that sucked less than the others; the few that didn't have really dark corners to hide in or nice ledges for players to perch on.

As for the campaign, I didn't get past the first level. It was so boring and frustrating that I actually prefer Ghost's story, of which I didn't even play. And that's because I didn't get to experience it first-hand, unlike AW's...

Survival was surprisingly fun, but it was about the same as the previous survival modes. You prepare, you beat a wave, and then upgrade your gear. Do this task, refill your inventory, and upgrade your gear. And you make it as far as you can with that setup.

Some people might really love this game, but for me, who liked the older installments of the series (CoD2, MW, BO, BO2) Advance Warfare didn't impress me. In fact, it tried being something it wasn't. Calling it part of the Call of Duty franchise is like saying Destiny was the latest Halo. And for paying $110 for it and not liking it, and only being able to get $45 back... let me offer some advice: Borrow the game from a friend/rent the game before buying it. No one can afford to just throw money away, especially if it's going to a company like Activision. You can choose to listen or not; I'm just trying to keep people from making mistakes. I'd give this game a 6.5 on normal means, but after wasting $70 on a game I didn't like and got rid of, that lowers the score. If one included the pre-order BS CoD pulls off every year, this game really should deserve such a low score. The creators of this game should focus more on what they can give their consumers instead of how much they can get by hanging exclusive content out on a line, hoping people take the bait.

All of the killstreaks are useless and the pick 13 system hinders the game rather than moves it forward. Perks are relatively useless and their are two guns used in the whole game because the others are so bad. One of the best game modes -demolition has now been permanently removed and doesn't look like it's coming back - and now the only one worth playing is domination if you like team based objective modes. The new game mode Uplink is a waste of time and clearly designed for kids with low attention spans. Exo abilities are also useless and don't play any role in the game. All skill has been removed and anything which made the early games has gone. The days of playing demolition on favela and feeling the thrill of calling in an AC130 after rushing a bombsite are long gone, replaced by retarded jumping and horrific lag.

The game is slightly playable but lacks the magic that made games like COD 4, MW2 and WAW so special. This is a last ditch attempt to claw back so dignity for a dying franchise, but unfortunately it falls flat on its face.

The problem is that they haven't given dedicated servers and rely on the terrible P2P host system which causes the most game braking lag I've ever experienced in a COD yet. I used to play MW2 on a 2meg connection and rarely got lag, when I did, jumping server usually fixed the issue and I could carry on having fun. In AW lag is in 98% of games I have played causing massive frustration. I now have 80meg fibre, surely there is something wrong when I could play older games on a slower line and they played better?

When there is no lag, it can be a little fun, kind of like a free to play game is for an hour or so. Ive played until 1st prestige and feel there is no reason to continue playing. In MW2 I wanted to get all the unlocks and online achievements but in AW it would be torture top even attempt them.

It is however better than Ghosts, mainly because you can traverse the **** maps with a few jumps so they don't feel as empty as Ghosts Ghost towns.

Maybe one day they will release a decent cod, maybe they will listen to fans and go back to basics creating great small to medium sized 3 route maps with basic kill streaks and great weapons. Until then, cod is pretty much dead. RIP COD.

I'll start off with the good about this game. It's mindless fun and runs very smoothly on PS4 and the graphics are relatively good. Now, to the negative.. It's still the same "I see you first, I get the kill." It has been fun playing this no skill game, but I'm already pretty much tired of it and will go back to a shooter that requires skill. This game is just a bunch of people running and flying around very tiny maps shooting each other in the back. Most of the guns feel the same, and pretty much all of them kill you in about 2 to 3 hits. What I actually used to really enjoy about CoD was the killstreaks. The killstreaks in this game are horrible. Some are virtually useless, such as the recon drone where you have to control the drone just to spot enemies while your player is standing out in the open looking at a computer screen and gets murdered because there are no "safe" places in any of the ridiculously small maps. I don't get the excitement of working toward a kill streak in this game as you did with helicopters etc in MW2.

I'll still play this game some when I don't want to have to put effort into being good at other games.. It's a decent game to grab some beers and have a stupid fun night, but that's about it.

I honestly think this new addition to the Call of Duty series is quite a good game, nothing special but it definitely does not deserve all the bad user ratings it has gotten. That being said, the campaign mode, however enjoyable it may have been, was far too short, if you buy this game at full price, you don't really get your money's worth.
I have just recently started the multiplayer mode and must say I'm happy they've actually tried to make the experience more different, even if it is not ALL THAT different! The exo-suit, while it does not provide you with a whole load of new abilities you'd expect, it still has a few really cool helpful tricks that you might enjoy and prove to save your ass during battle. The Exo Launchers and Exo Ability slots also have some cool selections to choose from that can be of great use when you're in a pinch. This opens the game up to a lot of different ways of playing, coming up with different tactics, and just feels pretty damn cool. If you were expecting a totally new Call of Duty game however, apart from the stuff I just mentioned, there's not a whole lot, but I'm satisfied with what they have changed.

TL;DR: Good game with an enjoyable but short campaign, with some great differences in the multiplayer mode but probably not worth buying at full price.

Exo survival is garbage. I have to pick between light, heavy, or recon and they can't use each others gun. So going light keeps you from the light heavymachines and going heavy means you can't pick assualt rifles or SMG. Modern Warfare lets you unlock anything in their survival mode. It just feels like a step backwards. Then there's the whole zombie DLC thing which at first was a annoyed that players have to dish out more cash for zombies but I thought, maybe the whole DLC will just focus on zombies. Nope. 1 freaking map for zombies and the rest for multiplayer in which I always felt wasting money for map packs was a waste. And for those of you saying that it's not the same developer that does zombies hence why it's "ok" that they are doing this know that Activision has overall control and anyone of them can make a zombie mode. Just because one is notorious for it doesn't make it ok for the other attempting it to charge people ridiculous amounts for what's always been in the game. Really if you want better games it's better to not pre-order and wait to see how the game is. Make developers realize that us players want better quality in our games. At least our 60$ worth. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Call of Duty: Advanced warfare is a new and fresh idea of the already established game play, the graphics look great, the sound stunning, and the setting is just amazing, but it got allot of negative sides as well.

Lets start with the single player, its amazing, but the story is to predictive, it had no emotional feel like the other call of duty (for example blackops 1 and 2) had, it felt like it lacks the passion of a good story, that the writer was a bit lazy, it lacked the feels, emotion, and best of all, a good story line.
You basically got hurt in the fight, get discharged, then someone give you another chance, just to see your arm being beaten up with a tire iron by the same person who gave you a second chance, you fight for survival, and that person dies in the end. When you yawn in any game with a campaign with story telling, its not a story you want to see again.

    Now about multiplayer:

I really was surprised in how well designed the maps were, it was made with great concept of detail, and it felt alive, the exo suit (rather want to call it a "jet pack" in multiplayer) is a great new concept that still need allot of fine tuning to make it being balanced correctly.

The promise of that they will remove the ability to quickscope, was ones again not seen in the final product, the only call of duty made by another company really tried removing that aspect was blackops 1.

At this point, you can call the promises many developers make these days lies, because they are being silently ignored, or not respectfully taken by heart in the final release of the game.

Note to DEV: ONLY make promises you can keep, and want to keep, els it will bite in your ass later in form of a lawsuit.

Now... about the net-code (in normal terms lag).... *put on the serious helmet, and click the belt along the cheek.* ITS PLAIN HORRIBLE, yes, you hear me correctly, its so horrible, the mini map is not in sync with the game, and actually is working in a delayed fashion like a grandpa that tries to keep up with the rest of the packets. I wanted to call CoD ghost bad on this one, but i will nominate this game instead of the golden poo.

In short, the campaign was cliche, short, to predictable, and to emotionless and lazy from the writer.
The mutliplayer aspect of the game is horrible at this state, horrible lag, others seem to see you earlier then you see them, the minimap that displays teammates firing, is delayed by a couple of seconds, and still they think we are retards who belief them when they say they got dedicated servers for match making (like that is anything different from mw2, mw3, or even blackops)

    3 out of 10
(4 out of 10 for the campaign, just to make the writer's lazy butt happy)

The story is full of plot holes and is laughably predictable, and it's over quickly. It felt like this was the shortest Call of Duty campaign I've played, and I've gone through all of them. I wasn't planning on playing this one at all, but I got it loaned to me and I was pleasantly surprised to find things were actually finally changed. The exo-suits your character wears gives you enhanced mobility, and the whole pace of the game feels more frantic than previous installments. Personally, I feel like it's a little too fast paced for my tastes, with multiplayer and survival being no different. The franchise has embraced it's twitch shooter niche and gone into full on sprint with it, which makes it feel like it should be its own franchise instead of having the "Call of Duty" title. I have to say, the sound is amazing, the best I've heard from a video game to date, and an impressive number of enemies are seen on screen at once, however the problem is they're nearly indistinguishable from the background in many cases, and I found myself relying on target enhancer items to be able to see them, which resulted in me just shooting at the glowing red things versus someone who looked like an enemy soldier, also combat doesn't feel as satisfying for some reason. I can't put my finger on it, maybe it's because the sounds outdo the visuals in some places, but it just seems like they could have done better in a lot of spots, these games are all on a schedule now and I think this one could have really benefitted from a little more time, and ended up being something really special, but you really don't get a lot of game for your 60 dollars. While it has great production values, the majority of call of duty is just shooting, and for me it didn't feel fun, the sneaking mission in the middle of the game felt a lot more fun, and that says something about your shooter. When all is said and done, this is a step in the right direction, although it's not enough to bring me back into the franchise, your mileage may vary though, check it out if you liked the movement mechanics of titanfall but don't want to have to deal with giant robots. I don't like it this game because it shows itself as more of the same, nothing new. What really annoys me is the fact that you aren't free in the game, you have these game scenes that you HAVE to do it, like a movie. So it doesn't matter what you do, it is just a script that you have to follow and that's not why I like to play games.

The multiplayer was always the true strength in the series while the main campaigns were always forgettable and I was excited to see if Call of Duty Advanced Warfare could step it up and make the series interesting again.

The story is set in 2054; a world filled with drones, large machines and advanced weapons. The story talks about protagonist Jack Mitchel, a marine who is faced with a tragic event at one of his missions which leads to his discharge because of his injuries. During a funeral, we are introduced to Jonathan Irons, played by Kevin Spacey, a finder and COO of a private military corporation called ATLAS.

The first thing you will notice is the addition of various high tech futuristic gadgets that are interesting because they change the flow of the game. One of them is the new exoskeleton suit that allows players to boost jump, dash in multiple directions while on the ground and air and invisibility which is used for stealth missions. The exoskeleton also gives you the ability to wall climb and you will have a grappling hook, a gadget which allows you to reach high places.

Sadly, many interesting features are only limited to certain events during the campaign with gadgets such as the grappling hook are not even available in the multiplayer which is a big shame. The combat still feels very similar which isn’t a bad thing with the gunplay feeling slick and realistic making killing off enemies more rewarding. Some cool grenades worth noting are a tactical grenade which temporally stun and shows enemies through walls after exploding. And the smart grenade which is fun to use because once thrown it will fly into the air and towards an enemy.

The main campaign is around 7 hours and you will be taken to several world locations each with its unique set pieces. From over the top action to some good stealth mission’s you’ll do all sorts of things from riding many vehicle, blowing things up with a talk to jet flying. The action a usual is very fun and even though the story is better than previous instalments, it is still an overall weak story.

The only element that saves it from sinking is the addition of Kevin Spacey who makes Jonathan Iron a powerful and ambitious man into an interesting and entertaining character who steals the show at every scene. The fantastic voice work by spacey makes Iron stands out and believable. This alone makes you want to continue through the story to see the conclusion.

The true star in COD is the multiplayer, with more than 10 game modes from domination to survival co-op and 13 different maps. The multiplayer has a couple of new modes and one of them that I found interesting is uplink, a fun mode that mixes a bit of capture the flag and basketball with guns. The addition of the exoskeleton in the multiplayer as usual adds more variety in the gameplay because you can customize it depending on your strategy and mastering it will surely earn you a lot of kills.

The introduction of the supply drops is a brand new reward system that earns
you items such as character gear for more customization and reinforcements that gives you boosts and perks which allow you to gain the upper hand during battle.

Many people might have decided to take a break from the call of duty franchise as the last couple couple of games weren’t very good but Call of Duty Advanced Warfare is still an overall fun game that is better than previous titles and a step forward in the series

I'll preface this by saying I have loved and played every Call of Duty except Ghosts(didn't play it).

I've put over 100 hours into Call of Duty 2, MW, and MW2 with significant time in Black Ops 1 and 2. I felt really disappointed by this iteration. I've always have slight frustrating games of Call of Duty, but the highs were always enough to get me back. With this it wasn't.

I've always have slight frustrating games of Call of Duty, but the highs were always enough to get me back.

With this it wasn't. The mechanics are fine, guns seem balanced, and I really like the direction they tried to take. Unfortunately I feel like the game is ruined by flawed map design.

The maps in MW and MW2 were really what put those games on top. You had relatively symmetrical maps with the action forced to key choke points.

Advanced Warfare really fails in this area as action can happen anytime and anywhere. Also because they don't force the direction in any way with map design you can go minutes with seeing an enemy.

The map design also leaves you very exposed while you are trying to do your cool Exo moves. I always felt like my deaths were from me getting shot from behind or dying when I had no chance of recovery or response.

So many times I would start a fire fight only to be killed by an enemy that had spawned behind me.

TL;DR Good concept, but flawed map design and respawns ruin a potentially great experience. Would rather just play Titanfall again.

They brought back the Black Ops concept of picking items in a limited amount of slot, which provide for great class building and a very expansive choice suited to your preferences.

The multiplayer does suffer from some problems though. Mainly, there will be some points in a match where connectivity drops dramatically and you are left in a "rubber band" motion, where you are just skipping back and forth, but I assume this will be resolved very soon. Some of the weapons suffer from being very bland and boring, but this is the case in just about every Call of Duty in one way or another.

All together, the multiplayer is a great improvement compared to last years installment of the Call of Duty franchise. While some may judge it for being a Titanfall and COD lovechild, its a must-play for fans who love fast-paced action,

The exo-survival is the weakest point of the title. It is essentially a horde mode in which you fight against enemies with exo-suits.It is a good time with friends but repetition spoils the fun at the end.It is here to provide an extra level of strategy and present a new challenge to fans of horde mode.

The multiplayer is a breath of fresh air for the franchise since it uses new gameplay mechanics that make the game more fast paced and fun to play. However, there are several issues that will hopefully be sorted out through patch support.Gun variety is absent at this point as only 2-3 weapons seem to be really effective.Exo abilities are not very useful and scorestreaks lack lethality. The game had a rough launch with a lot of lag but I can safely say that the PS4 online experience is the smoothest after the 2 connection patches that came out. I also played the game on Xbox One but I decided to review it on the ps4 section since multiplayer is working properly on this version of the game.As more consoles are sold in all regions connection will be evened out but I'd give the edge to the ps4 just from personal experience.(this is the first time I am satisfied from a CoD game connection wise on psn because all previous CoDs seemed to have worse ports on ps3/ps4).Lag or no lag,the game is fun to play and difficult to master.

    VERDICT:

-Not ready out of the box

Graphics-wise, it's pretty much what we've come to expect from a Call of Duty game; it's quite good, but nothing spectacular. The single player campaign is very predictable, and the term "on-rails experience" certainly applies to this game, just as much as any previous installment in the franchise. With that being said, the campaign is still a fairly enjoyable experience, as long as you don't mind staying within the mission perimeter/following the squad leader at all times. Personally, I found it to be quite frustrating that the mission would end and automatically restart every time I moved slightly outside the mission area.

The multiplayer experience felt quite refreshing, to me, but it certainly doesn't appeal to everyone. Advanced Warfare is based around the use of the boost mechanism and "exo-abilities", and it takes a little while to get used to. How well you'll perform online, is directly affected by how well you've mastered the use of these new features, and that's something that's likely to put a lot of people off this game. This new way of moving about the online maps, has allowed the developer to add more layers to the maps. You can now easily get on top of balconies and obstacles in a flash, and moving from point A to point B is easier and faster than ever. The downside to this is that, since the maps now have more layers added to them, and since they now have a diagonal, rather than the popular, linear design, you'll often find yourself in situations where you'll get crowded and fired at from several angles, at the same time. Some people won't mind this, but it certainly makes playing online feel more chaotic and unpredictable, compared to previous Call of Duty games.

All in all, Advanced Warfare is a pretty good FPS game that does a few things that haven't been done in this particular franchise before, but the new features will most definitely alienate some veteran players and fans of the retro-style Call of Duty games. Sledgehammer games have taken one step in a direction that's completely new to the Call of Duty franchise, and I suspect that whether people will enjoy Advanced Warfare or not, is a direct result of whether they think too much was added to the game, or maybe too little? Only time will tell if it was a good call by Sledghammer to "sit on the fence" with this game, rather than going in a completely new direction, or simply sticking to a successful formula.

The MP is fluid and the survival mode, while bland, is fun for a short time. Which is fine for me, as I don't play COD for longer than an hour or two anyways. It's worth picking up, and offers a fun time. Plus if you're worried about the changes, it even has a classic playlist! So you can play COD how you like it. It's still COD at the core, not the greatest game. Though it's been beaten with a stick. AW is very welcomed, and I even applaud it for doing something new. I would have rather have zombie mode than survival, and hate the fact it'll be DLC. The new guns are quite fun to fool around with, even a couple of new perks. The biggest downside to me is simply not enough maps. At rank 13, I shouldn't of seen every map twice. The game is a 6, if you're a COD fan who buys the season pass, you'll love the game. During Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, the story is set in the future; that means jetpacks, and lasers! The gameplay mechanics are almost the same as previous Call of Duty titles, the only things that are new are jetpacks, lasers, guns that print their own bullets, different types of grenades, and the campaign. The campaign is very predictable, what you think that will happen at the start completely happens. There are barely any unexpected plot twists or changes in the story. The developers could have slightly changed the plot in order to make the story less predictable, but they decided not to for some reason. Also, most of the levels feel linear and scripted, except for one of them. The one level that did not feel linear and scripted is what the whole game should have been; this is a second time a good opportunity was passed up by the developers. Nevertheless, the game is fun; it's fun to pick up a controller and just shoot people without having to think about it. This may be why this game's multiplayer is so popular. There is practically no strategy in the online mode - as mentioned before, it is a twitch shooter. During the online mode, most of the players run around the map shooting each other like a bunch of chicken with their heads cut off, and the maps are designed for that. It really depends on how you personally like to play your shooter games, but I do not recommend it for the strategy aspect. I rate the game a 5/10, as the game is just average. Expand

If you however happen to be one of the people who don't like new and futuristic stuff, this is not the place to look. The guns are very different, with things like lasers, beam shotguns and even the ability to become invisible at the press of a button. So if you're not into that stuff, i recommend picking up a Battlefield game (with 4 being my personal favorite and Hardline being my least favorite). Trust me. If you don't like future stuff, grab one of those. You will fell better about yourself. If you buy it just because it's Call of Duty, don't. This is for people into games like Titanfall. Despite the hate the game got because of its futuristic setting, I personally enjoyed it, I thought it was okay.

The gameplay is smooth, some guns are overpowered but fun to use, and the exo suit mechanics are very satisfying.

The story had some good moments here and there, great amount of action and suspense, but it's relatively short and very forgettable.

    Final Rating: "Decent" ~ 6/10.

The cinematics and graphic style are nice and there isn't a lot, if any software bugs that I came across and there is enough content if you are ok with pretty lame gameplay. For these reasons I believe the game deserves the score I gave it. That said the game play is really bad. Ai intelligence is terrible, squads of enemies just barrel roll and are placed in some choke areas to make the game slightly advanced. Checkpoints are set really close so no matter how bad you are you will advance. Much of the gameplay is actually not gameplay per se but interactive movie quick time events. much of the gameplay is fragmented or disjointed into the missions so no immersion is achieved. Weapons can be picked up by mistakingly reloading over a dropped enemy weapon rather than actually by the game rules of holding the square button for a bit as designed, so very poor implementations. To go on you don't get zombies in the game you are immediately notified it's an extra purchase.....that's not even DLC that's suggestively selling you an entirely differently game. The game overall is very easy and I can certainly see little kids falling in love with this very easy shooter. I would definitely not recommend this to gamers who have previous shooter experience, it's just too cinematic and easy. Expand

And yes the graphics are better(finally) and the jetpack is fun but that doesn't take away the fact that the game feels like a dlc with a verry expensive price tag. Oh and the campaign is a one time playtrough 4 hour long borefest as usual.

My conclusion: The game still offers fun but it simply doesn't feel fresh anymore and the extra features are just lazy gimmicks wich get flat verry fast.

    Buyer guide:

Die hard fan? Buy it , there isn't much special about this game but hey the multyplayer still offers the same amount of fun.

regular gamer? Let this one slide or buy a previous installment of the franchise (like ghosts or black ops 2 ) for a better price and see how you like it. This wil be a lot cheaper and will be a nearly identical experience. After playing that game you can still decide if you want to buy this game.

As with every other year I've decided to get COD (this year the game was gifted to me, personally I would not have bought it with my own money) I spent about a month enjoying Online Multiplayer with my buddies. It got old pretty quick and is on the shelf now in favor of more recent and better games. This of course attributes to my score - games like COD just fizzle out so quickly, and once the luster of the base maps wear out, the game quickly follows. I would not even entertain the thought of wasting my time on single player in this game.

    Pros:
-Maps are decent they have some variety and require some thought about loadouts for each
-I liked how you received custom weapons for each class with varied attributes, more of this in COD games would be beneficial.
-While overall I didn't care for the "exo skeleton" idea, I liked certain aspects such as the quick dodging / strafe, and how you launch grenades now from a launcher on your arm instead of tossing them

    Cons:
-Even though I hate using and people that use claymores and C4, I'm bewildered why these items are left out of this game. It seemed to go all in favor of the exo abilities 90% of which are useless. Doesn't make sense to have a war shooter without the full arsenal of basic warfare weapons
-Exo abilities seemed utterly useless - only found value in the fast speed one really. Exo cloak is very easy to see, stim pack one doesn't last long and you still get shot and die, etc.. They are just useless and bring nothing extra or fun to the table
-Jet packs in this game are stupid - development is clearly trying to mimic other popular games with high jumping like Destiny. I was in favor of the quick strafing, but the jet packs were gimmicky and simply made play more sloppy and encouraged roof top camping.

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare receives a technical 5.5 from me, bumped down to the 5 because I personally found it unmemorable and didn't find the love that would make me want to round up. You either rent or borrow this one for a few weeks of fun online, but I wouldn't recommend buying it.
