Great addition to the Call Of Duty franchise! Improved graphics, physics, without losing any of that call of duty feel! Exo suits add the ability to jump higher and it pays off drastically

Here's the thing about all the haters. They don't like this kind of FPS, yet they buy it just to criticize it. It's fun, and there's a reason that it's one of the biggest franchises. More people buy it than whatever you haters play. I'm not even sure what you like! Either way, very interesting campaign, great multiplayer with lots of customization. I especially love the customization to the score streaks, the extra exoskeleton stuff, the guns and maps could do better though. I've only played the 3 most recent games of the franchise, Black Ops II, Ghosts and Advanced Warfare, and I have to say that the guns in Black Ops II were better. The campaign of Black Ops II also had MUCH more to it with the separate endings. Either way, still a 10. Expand

I like the game so far put about 5 hours into the Multiplayer and completed the story. I enjoyed the games campaign mode it was full of decent varied missions from the stealth where you have to not be detected to the all out mayhem of just blowing stuff up and endless killing. the best part about these missions are the new Exo abilities, though they are only tailor made for each mission which could've been better allowing you to chose which abilities you wanted they were decent though i did find myself just wanting the double jump. another downside there is only one mission which allows you to use the stealth suit exo which I found rather enjoyable, yes you can use it online but it is easily visible to the other players and quite obvious the person is there if you pay attention. Now onto the main part of the review, which yes I am writing this a bit out of anger due to my last play session, the online multiplayer is fun. as long as you have friends to play with and talk to; to keep yourself from concentrating too much. (if you're a player like I am, who games better when not putting all my brain power into getting revenge over other players who have P****d me off) I found myself struggling to play online well enough to not want to rage quit the matches and stay online due to not having many friends who I talk to and play with online on this new iteration. when playing online I found myself playing against people who have put hours into each map to find the best spots to camp or to head glitch and make sure they're nigh invisible. The online aspect of the game is quiet well rounded and I like the new 'Supply Drops' which give you new equipment such as guns with stat boosts which come with a downgrade to other stats to equal it out. I also enjoy customising my character to make them my own by using the equipment gained from 'Supply Drops' the graphics on the game are phenomenal this is mostly noticed when it comes to the cut scenes within the story as i felt like the characters looked as close to real as i have ever seen in a game. I got a bit side tracked, back to Multiplayer, the addition of the double boosts and dashes as such are a good addition to the game to make it that much more fast paced which is what i like about Call of Duty games, their pace the gameplay in this addition reminds me of MW2 which is great as that is one of my favourites in the series. In also like the map design there are several different styles of maps which is great as there are maps which want you to keep moving and jumping around but doing so does put you at a bit of a disadvantage as it makes you vulnerable, but there are other maps which rely on close combat and quick wits and reactions. Over all the game is great i enjoy the multiplayer (when i have people to be on with) and the campaign was great even though its a tad bit predictable. all in all one of my favourites in the franchise. Bravo, Sledgehammer. Bravo. I was pretty skeptical going into this, as Sledgehammer was its main developer, people who were heavily involved in that turd of a game MW3. However, once I got to playing this, I found myself thoroughly enjoying it.

Campaign - Although the campaign is still shorter than I would have liked, it was certainly better than Ghosts. But we don't talk about Ghosts.

Campaign - Although the campaign is still shorter than I would have liked, it was certainly better than Ghosts. But we don't talk about Ghosts. The characters, although it would be a bit of a stretch to say I legitimately cared about them by the end of the game, they were certainly good. Troy Baker kills it as Mitchell (but that isn't surprising), and Gideon (no clue who his voice actor is) is this game's Harper. And of course, Kevin Spacey plays the villain. I do not need to say any more. The premise, while good, is unoriginal. But it is executed rather well, so it didn't bother me too much.

Multiplayer - Take everything fun about CoD's multiplayer, and add in a metric f*ckton of jumping. It makes for a rather hectic, yet quite fun experience. Easily the best part of the game, but given that this is CoD, you probably already knew that. Also, instant fix for any possible screaming 8-year-olds you may find: There's this awesome new thing called a mute button! It's not that hard to use, either! How nice!

Conclusion - Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare is a strong entry in the Call of Duty series. While it isn't necessarily groundbreaking, it does add in several new things to keep the formula from becoming stale. I can see myself playing this for quite some time, and won't be embarrassed to have it in my games library (although I can't say that for certain OTHER, more recent games in the series). The campaign is short but fun, and is a nice distraction from the vastly improved multiplayer. There is an Exo-Survival mode pretty much identical to MW3's survival mode, but it is fairly underwhelming compared to the rest of the game. Oh, and did I mention the graphics? They're pretty nice.

    Verdict - 8.3/10

A great step forward for the franchise ! And it needed this after a fairly disappointing Ghosts the year before.
First things first the franchise finally looks like a true next-gen game, great character rendering, nice light effects, lots of details, etc. Although the sound could be better, the game is pretty solid on the technical side except the same old issue with no dedicated servers

About the campaign, it was pretty good even if the story is quite predictable, there is plenty of nice and fun moments. It's also a little larger than the previous ones (count 6-8 hours to finish it) still insufficient in my books but better than 4 hours, especially that I didn't encountered many difficulties (and I played in Veteran) so the 6 hours are really the minimum.

Now the main thing about this new episode is the gameplay that is way less static than before, offering some vertical gameplay and speed boost to the game really helped creating an even more nervous FPS (and took care of most campers online) it really makes a difference while still being a Call of Duty (very easy to control).

In conclusion the game isn't the best in any domain, but it is solid in every one of them and makes Advanced Warfare a good choice for every FPS player.

As a COD fan myself, I must say that as the latest addition to the franchise, Advanced Warfare makes Ghosts' graphics look like 8-bit. With improved graphics and game play, with a great story, Advanced Warfare could be the most memorable installment in the series....or the least favorite, depending on other fans.

I can;'t remember the last Call of Duty I played, the most memorable for me would've been the first Modern Warfare. After that I grew tired of the same thing happening every year while nothing else changed. It might be for the fact that I've not played the franchise for a few years that I'm actually really enjoying it so far.

I don't care what platform people own, its preferential choice at the end of the day. I'm reviewing the PS4 version because its the version I have. I expect the XB1 version to be pretty much identical just as I would expect last generation versions to be similar among themselves.

If you enjoy COD buy this game, if you're after a game which doesn't involve much thinking, can be played with friends and is genuinely entertaining buy this game. If you're insecure about the platform you own - grow up.

I respect that Ghosts and MW3 left a bade taste in peoples mouth's but please don't let that get in the way of stopping you from enjoying this solid experience. One more note; the graphics have actually received a nice boost and have the aesthetics of a real next gen game and thankfully, for the sake of game play, run at a smooth 1080p @ 60FPS with almost no frame rate issues such as stutter or drops. I would sincerely recommend this game to FPS fans, I believe that even if you didn't enjoy some of the previous few iterations of the Call of Duty Franchise, this should please you, just as it did to me (I am not the biggest Call of Duty fan due to some of the previous games).

This game seems very different from any of the other CODs I've been around. It took me 4 or 5 matches to get used to the double jump and side shifts, but I think it works nicely.
There are still the general campers, but what PvP game online doesn't? The key difference from other COD games is the amount of vertical movement that goes on. Rather than everyone being on the 'floor' with the occasional sniper in one of the 3 vantage point spots, these maps usually have 3 height levels. A change, but you learn to look up a little more often. The pace is faster than earlier versions, but you 'catch up' pretty quickly. Several people are making the Titanfall comparisons, which sounds accurate but I did read that these guys started planning this game out a year before Titanfall went to work, so they just got released sooner. I don't see that being a reason to start saying "merrr, they copied them!".
Anywho, overall I've had a lot of fun playing this in the last few hours (still need to check out campaign, but that's an afterthought for me). As far as cons go, I think some of the new movement needs a bit more polish. Or maybe I just need to practice it more. Also, the spawning points online seem a little finicky. Some spawns you are surrounded by teammates, others you take three steps and get hit by an enemy. If you've played any CODs before, you know they'll touch up on this in an update in a week or two.
There is just a quite a little to get used to, so I'm going to get back to it. Happy gaming, people!.

The quick scope crowd may not be happy with this game either. The movement of the game doesn't lend itself to the quick scope sniper. Gun balance is ok so far but hard to judge any of that before a few patches. If you are a fan of cod, you will assist and have fun. Only problem I find is the lack of guns, there are few different stats (minor changes like +1 accuracy and -1 stability) for 1 gun from supply drops but overall there aren't many guns to pick from.

This game has AMAZING GRAPHICS, you cannot say it has bad graphics.
While on the ps3 and xbox 360 graphics looks decent, the current gen ps4 and xbone has beautiful, stunning graphics.
The controls are easy to get use to. A baby could play it.
The hit detections are great, easily one of the best.
Now the animations in this game are OUTSTANDING, its smooth, and nice.
Now the newest editions are the EXOS ability, and i gotta say, they are very well balance except the one that gives you more health. It was a concerned but you guys can calm your nips, its very well balance.
Even while it has the exos, the gameplay is still at its CALL OF DUTY finest

    The SinglePlayer:
The singleplayer is great, the storyline is alright but the performance of Kevin Spacey, and Troy Baker makes it gripping, and entertaining. They performance are amazing, everyone in the singleplayer acting/voice acting is top notch. The only downside is that i wish the story was better, but i was addicted to the singleplayer cause of the acting.

    The Co Op:
Its a decent co op but its disapointing. While its not as good as zombies but its average. Its fun for a few hours, and has a great easter egg about zombies. And once you beat the easter egg, you will get an awesome zombies skin for your multiplayer, which is cool and sick.

Now to the core of the game....
    The Multiplayer:
This multiplayer is addictive, fun, and entertaining.
With gamemodes returning to this fun shooter, hardpoint, capture the flag, war(momentum) etc
This will be a great competitive shooters for mlg and for people who wanna have fun.
But my favorite game mode is the new game mode "Uplink" which is a mix of capture the flag and dodgeball.
You have to get a ball thats randomly place in the map called the satellite, and you have to run to your enemy spawn where it has the floating goal. You could throw the ball for a point, and get in the goal for 2 points. But heres the catch, you can't use a weapon with the satellite, so it takes strategy and skills to play this game.
The maps in this game is well designed and it beautiful to look at. There is no bad maps in this game in my opinion, they are just well designed.

    My rating is a 9/10
    Pros:
    Addictive, great Multiplayer
    Fun to play
    Great graphics
    Phenomenal voice acting
    Sounds are amazing
    Well balance multiplayer
    Cons:
    Disapointing Co op
    Stale storyline of singleplayer

I recommend you get this game, its a new experience, and is very addictive :)

The Call of Duty series has garnered as much hatred as it has admiration. With COD it's hard not to make comparisons to past entries in the series. Even with this in mind, the game excels and surpasses even the most beloved COD games.
With this iteration things have been turned up to 11. The set pieces are bigger, things are definitely prettier and the game runs silky smooth. It feels fresh and the extra year they spent on the game definitely shows.

I think the reason gamers are hating on this one is that it hasn't revolutionized the series. It's not the game-changer everyone had hoped for. It's still a great game, but it is a COD game at it's heart. If you go into it with the expectation that it will be very similar to past games in the series, with a few changes and you enjoyed those past games, you will surely not be disappointed.

I do have to add that this game takes a huge dump on ghosts.

Let's not talk about the horrible addition to CoD last year that was Ghosts. Sledgehammer has developed their own vision for CoD's future, ands it works effectively. Multiplayer elements such as the jumpsuit are well balanced, and the campaign is a blast to play. If anything, this is the most fun CoD since the MW2-BO I era, and I fully embrace this change.

I'd like to point out that Call of Duty is a shooter, and that's what you will get from this game. New things about this game are namely exo suit (there are different types of suits, some allowing double jump, some allowing cloak, etc), "new weapon" (they still shoot bullets after all) and futuristic theme (2054 vs 2024 of black ops 2), but three things are quite a lot. What score this game gets won't change anybody's mind: ppl who will buy it, will; ppl who hate the franchise, won't. And I'm happy with my purchase so far.

Somehow, through the completely revamped multiplayer, the same COD feel emerges. This, mixed with the fun new levels of customization, and the sheer polish of the game (plays and looks like a dream on Next-Gen consoles), Advanced Warfare has serious potential to bring Call of Duty back to its glory days. If you still aren't sure, try out the game at a friend's house, or use the new Share-Play system (if you're a PS4 owner like myself) and make your own decisions. Advanced Warfare steps into the future in far more ways than one. Expand

I am a long-time CoD player. I've played every version back to WaW. CoD Ghosts almost broke my interest in the franchise. It was a pile of garbage, period. Advanced Warfare has restored my faith in the series.

The multiplayer is smooth and gorgeous. Sledgehammer seems to have found a happy medium between the super tiny, three lane monotony of BO2 with the huge, incongruous monstrosities that were featured on Ghosts. The exo suit additions are decent changes, but nothing that will knock your socks off. Hit detection seems good, although time/shots to kill need to be brought down a bit, imo. The new, update "pick 13" system was a great decision by Sledgehammer, and lets you customize your killstreak rewards in ways never before possible.

Overall, this is a solid CoD game. If you are a fan of the series, you will enjoy it and be grateful that they did not let Ghosts sound the death knell of the CoD franchise. There are a few balance issues and tweaks to work out, but overall, I am pleased thus far.

+ Story is decent, especially compared too Ghosts.
+ Exo suits breath new life into a stale franchise
+ Increased verticality in MP offers truely high speed online matches
+ Fan communication is unparalleled against most other games

(I'd actually place this game around an 8.5, but there are not half scores on this site. I went with the 8 rather than the 9, since this title does trend similar ground as it's predecessors.)

Following the disappointing Ghosts, Advanced Warfare marks a return to form for the Call of Duty series.

Campaign - While the majority of my time thus far has been spent in multi-player, what I have played from the campaign has been enjoyable, and a clear step up from recent COD titles.
The game looks gorgeous visually, and the character performances allow you to become immersed in what has been, for the first few hours, a coherent narrative. The "Advanced Warfare" also helps keep missions fresh, providing new toys to play with and experiences that aren't exactly identical to previous COD's. The only issue I've had thus far is with the quick time events. The prompts are so small you can miss them if you are drawn in to the action around you, which causes you to replay a section.

Multi-player - Fortunately this game builds off the multi-player from Black Ops2 and acts as if Ghosts never existed. This means the game has went back to the more traditional and addictive ways of unlocking items and completing challenges.
Some new features include the ability to modify score-streaks, a pick 13 system (instead of 10) and supply drops. The supply drops could have been an issue, since they are random, if it was the only way to unlock equipment, but instead they just add to the experience since they provide new apparel and modified versions of weapons that you can receive simply be leveling up.
The game also returns old modes while providing new as well, Uplink. Really there is something for everyone. Don't like the exo-suit? There is a classic playlist that allows you to play without it. However, that may be a mistake since the suit does open the game up and changes the dynamic of the entire experience. It provides a sense of experimentation and wonderment that has largely been absent from the series since the initial Modern Warfare.
The main negative at the moment has been lag and connectivity issues. This can be a major problem in a game like this, but it also is the first week, so such issues are not unexpected. It is worth monitoring how this is addressed or if it stabilizes here in the near future.

COD may not be the thinking-man's tactical first-person-shooter, but what Advanced Warfare does is bring the fun back to the series. And really, isn't that what you are looking for when you purchase and play a Call of Duty title?

Sure there are some fun missions, but they are mostly shooting galleries with some sort of significant change within the exo. But the voice acting and graphics are top notch. The multiplayer is fantasic. The exo provides new ways to have fun and rack up points, and the new loot system helps you want to get that next supply drop and get new gear. All in all, it is fun but you can't help but feel that since of it being so close to other Call of dutys (engine wise). But if you are looking for a new fun fast paced twitch shooter, Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare is the game for you. Expand

Absolutely love this game! I come from Battlefield and didn't touch a CoD since MW2 but I gotta say, this is just incredible. And no, I wasn't paid to write this. People just gotta learn the exo movement and don't judge the game because they don't put enough time into it. 10/10, would buy again.. probably ^^

Let's just get this out of the way...it is a lot like Titanfall. The setting, the styling, not so much in the play style department. Titanfall isn't as fast. Call of Duty was always fast but this one cranks it up ten notches to almost Unreal Tournament levels. Now I am aware that this comparison is almost blasphemous but I would say that Advanced Warfare is more in lines with it than Titanfall which just shares the aesthetically similar traits. It is fast, frantic, and for once is a long time, almost tactical. You have options on how to approach every scenario. This is largely due to the level design which is so heavily measured around the new movement. They remind me of the multi tired levels of Uncharted or maybe Halo. It simply is the only COD i've been interested fully since...well hell...no of them really. I like BLOPS 2 but mostly because of zombies with friends. I actually go out of my way to play this on. Everything just works and is well executed. I'm the end my final words would have to be that i'm glad i took a chance on this game. I'm glad I didn't listen to people saying it is more of the same because while yes this is still very much a Call of Duty game, it takes the wheel and doesn't make it more round, it gives it hella good tires. What a bunch of whining whingers. On the one hand 0-7 reviews scream 'it's the same as all the past cod games', condemn it, then go on to say how they loved BO2, MW2. So if this is just like them then why hate it his?? What gooses contradicting themselves with their own words! They're flaming that's all. If it's the 'same rehash' then you can bet it's much more than good. Let's look atWhat a bunch of whining whingers. What gooses contradicting themselves with their own words! They're flaming that's all. If it's the 'same rehash' then you can bet it's much more than good. Let's look at those who stand to hate the new suit. I'll give you one guess -snipers. Snipers are a blight on the game that needed to be counterbalanced. Now cleverly, we have a way of defending against the unseen if not then making it more difficult for them. At least we can now make life as difficult for them as possible and we love it but they hate it because that's all they could do, sit and wait. They are probably hopeless at real combat so snipe.

The launch issues such as lag will be sorted out. But it is in essence COD and if you wanted something so different from COD that it's unrecognisable then I suggest you play Destiny which is AWESOME!! I don't believe even 1/10th of negative reviews are genuine because if you guys value your cash so much why did you jump in and buy and not wait and see some videos first?? So do we trust the reviews of those with proven bad judgement who jumped in and bought the game without checking it out first? People who are condemning something they themselves bought are in reality condemning their poor judgement because before you spend $60 or more $$$ on a game you should check it out thoroughly.

I'm giving the game a 9/10 because no game is perfect, the extra balancing against snipers (the game's blight) the improved graphics and new maps and single player. Unlike those who bought blindly then come crying crocodile tears here I checked it out and found it worthy of the COD Franchise. My $$$ is not wasted nor am I going to come here and whine and moan because I did my homework and don't buy games I don't know I will like. Destiny I loved and this too.

Here's the deal. I'm a BF4 fan, but I love video games and am eager to play anything good....especially in the FPS genre. And CoD:AW is good. It's great, in fact. To be fair, the last several iterations of CoD, apart from the occasional sparkle of ingenuity with BlOps and BlOps 2, were boring....with inexcusably antiquated mechanics rehashed over and over again in ways that were intolerable from my perspective. CoD: AW, though, is a refreshing change, without question. Everything that turned me off of modern CoD games has been resolved with this game, IMO. Mobility is fresh and fluid. And, sound! Something DICE does so well and is so important to the overall shooter experience....thank god, Sledgehammer has put some well-deserved attention here. I'm not talking about musical score. Frankly, I don't give a **** about that. It's the ambient sound.....the little crunches and clicks and clinks of gear shifting and moving and moving-parts adjusting/settling into place.....all that little stuff just does it for me. I don't know why, but it does. It its about time that someone in CoD franchise started paying attention. Graphics are better...smoother...more liquid. Mobility...and this one is important...character mobility is MUCH more liquid, without compromising that classic CoD "twitch" that everyone loves. The new mobiilty gives the twitch legs to stretch out with. And this is important because CoD can't pull off what DICE pulls off and needs an element of compensation...and mobility helps in this regard. CoD can't pull off depth/diversity of setting that BF demonstrates. BF maps live and breathe......they are an extension of BF's dynamicism. We're talking destruction, size, scope. Immersion. CoD isn't wired for that...they're maps are still inert, for the most part, inert. There is a nod to "levolution" style events that crop up in some of the maps...like the tidal wave, for instance, in the Defender map....but to me, this shows that Sledge wants to take things that work in other games to apply to there's...in an effort to pump some life into previously and progressively lifeless franchise. But where the maps themselves are inert...the characters themselves, conversely, are blissfully mobile. I've never played Titanfall (play on PS4) but mobility is what made that game exciting, from what I understand. And CoD: AW takes it and adds a sheen of hyper-clarity that BlOps has done well with in the past, to create an almost hallucinatory FPS experience. It is fun. The advanced weapons play on this kind of "break-through" experience too. They're not absurdly advanced as to be unbelievable. They're advanced enough to refresh.

Cod still has something of an "arcade" quality that keeps it from satisfying on the "epic" BF level. But it stopped trying for that sometimes after CoD. This new game finally pulls off what CoD has become resigned to.....and it does it extremely well. The bottom line is that this is the first time I've felt excited playing CoD since...well...since CoD I and II. I imagine this'll be the first time I don't resort to trading in the game shortly after purchase, as I've done so many times in the past.

I understand that this franchise is geared mostly for customers who never play the campaign, however those who love the single player aspect of it get ripped off by a short campaign. The Supply drops are interesting to receive, since you wouldn't know what 3 items could be inside, an easy way to exploit your way into getting one is to quickly get yourself killed at the start of any game mode match which is odd, since it works every time.

The graphics are good, it was just not my main focus when I was playing this game or it just didn't stand out to me to start taking a screenshot every sec. The sound, some guns sounded great while some just sounded a bit weak.

What is making this game for me fun? The Exo movement, it was a much notable function that was more then what I was expecting. You could dash on the ground or while in the air in any direction or slam down on an enemy. While in the match it just feels funs jumping and dashing everywhere to kill other people doing the same thing, it's pretty arcadey, which I like.

You could still play split-screen along with a friend online which is a positive of me.

There are no kill streaks, It's now called score streaks. It's when you gather enough points for your uav or something. There are not that many since you can now instead upgrade your score streak in multiple ways, like for the Uav you can have it last longer and/or send it orbital where it can't be shot down and/or have it detect where enemies are pointing and much more. It would cost the streak more, but it would make it a lot better, so it actually happens to have more score-streaks then you may have thought. A feature that I happen to appreciate highly, since it rewards for those who support or just follow the objectives.

Pick 13, not sure if that was a good decision, but it does work well. You can remove your score streaks for more points or add another one, which is nice. Other then that it's the same as it was in Black Ops 2.

Good Job Sledge Hammer, you managed to create a CoD that's fun to play.

I'll start off by saying Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare is leagues ahead of the abomination that was Call of Duty: Ghosts and I think that doesn't surprise anyone. While the story is the typical CoD story of giant set pieces and relative predictability, during my time with the campaign I found myself just relaxing and enjoying shooting people in the head which is more than I can say for the last two Call of Duty games.
Online multiplayer is more or less of what i've come to expect from the franchise; Nine year olds screaming into their mics whenever I kill them the same way twice, the inevitable quick scopers(which should have been fixed by this point in the series) the constant lag problems i face with those who have a poor connection and the occasional nice guy who is a pleasure to play with.

Overall this game gets an 8/10 because while its more of the same in terms of Multiplayer the set pieces in the campaign and the EXO suits make playing this year's CoD just that much more entertaining and therefore deserving of some more play time this holiday season.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Call of Duty has been in a state of decline after many entries, each with the same formula and same approach to gameplay. While Treyarch constantly brings new ideas to the party (peaking with franchise best, Black Ops II), Infinity Ward hasn't innovated too much since MW1. Sure the two sequels were great, but Ghosts was a massive disappointment for the first entry on new gen consoles. It just felt like COD at its most basic, with minimal improvements in multiplayer and co-op and none in the campaign. Advanced Warfare is basically the Modern Warfare of the 8th generation and it is an amazing first effort for Sledgehammer Games, who were never so much of a B-List Team as they were regarded as the C-List. The new Exo suit, the brilliant campaign, the highly improved multiplayer and the enjoyable Exo survival makes this the biggest, best and most badass Call of Duty around and the greatest entry so far (surpassing BLOPSII as my personal favourite).

Starting with the campaign and oh what a campaign it is! Set in the year 2054, you play as Private Mitchell- a good soldier who enlists with his friend to fight some bad guys. While taking on a mission in North Korea, the fight turns bad and Mitchell's buddy is killed after a sacrifice to save lives. Left crippled and without hope, Mitchell doesn't expect to be contacted by Jonathan Irons- the father of his friend Will. Head of an elite private military corporation known as Atlas, Irons is responsible for the technological advancements within the current wars. Contracted as a soldier of Atlas, Mitchell begins his fight to root out out terrorism and evil overseas. However, not all is as it seems at Atlas and Kevin Spacey (I mean Jonathan Irons) may not be as genuinely good as he first appears...

The campaign is another 8-10 hour globetrot, packed with set pieces and quick-time events. While this may sound like another design similar to Ghosts, the story actually hits some emotional beats and the performances are unbelievably good, helped along by amazing motion capture that makes full use of the next gen graphics engine at hand. The story itself also confronts some serious themes, like the horrors of war and the will to stop fighting. The collectible intel also adds more context to the actions oof Irons and sheds light on the narrative in interesting ways. But while the great villain and well written story elevate this past all previous campaigns of the series (including BLOPSII), it's the set pieces you're here for and boy are they good. The vehicle sections are excellent, with hover bikes, a submarine-like speedboat and a fast tank. There is an assault in Antarctica, an open ended grapple/stealth section and the final sequence where you storm in with giant Titan-like suits. This is all well and good, but I wouldn't be commending this so much if its gameplay wasn't so damn good...

The exo suit adds new layers to the combat and the new abilities make this feel like an accomplished sci-fi shooter. The brand new gadgets are amazing, with variable grenades that bring choice to your shootouts. You can gain the ability to slow down your shooting like "Bullet Time" or you can cloak yourself to add some stealth. Double jumping and boosting (not the MP kind) are so fun to do and stomping on foes from above gets better every time. Shooting is relatively the same, but you don't have to kill everyone with a knife or a gun with all these well thought out options.

The improvements stretch to multiplayer as well, with the exosuit making the fast pace of COD even faster. There are new modes like the enjoyable Uplink, along with plenty of playlist variants such as one that removes the exosuits from the players for a more traditional experience. The new maps are bigger and better than ever before and the new graphics engine makes this one of the prettiest online shooters around. Customization is also given a greater focus, with unlockable gear and large amounts of ways to make your soldier look different. You can check out other people in the lobbies, with their fancy gear gained from supply drops. Similar to the BF battlepacks, these are earned periodically and net you cool things like gun variants or pieces of an outfit. There are also co-op scorestreaks and they're even customizable with care packages that can be loaded with bombs and cloaks. In short, this is the best multiplayer offering of COD yet and one of the best online experiences this year.

There's also survival mode, with a dedicated online component, multiple maps and plenty of options to keep on going through the waves. There's a special surprise at the end of it all and this can add at least 4 hours to the run time if you want to unlock everything. It isn't quite as accomplished as the MW3 variant or as addictive as the famous Zombies, but it's worth a play.

Advanced Warfare is a large and varied shooter, constantly impressing you with not only its graphics and gameplay, but also the heart at the centre!

Year in, year out I see the same comments on the franchises such as CoD and FIFA, where people's main criticism is 'more of the same'. Whilst this is an entirely valid comment, I'm not sure what people expect from a well established franchise that sells millions of copies every year. If the formula is kept the same - people complain about repetition. If the game is changed too radically - people complain that the game is no longer the series they know and 'love'.

This is where CoD: AW get's the balance brilliantly. Without straying too far from the well trodden path of the CoD franchise, there isn't much wiggle room for a new developer to innovate. However, Sledgehammer have found the gap and exploited it beautifully with the new movement mechanics of the exo suit.

Make no mistake, the new changes in movement style results in a much harder FPS experience for the standard, casual gamer. The pace of the game is fast, and mastering the dashes and boots to effectively traverse maps and areas is difficult to become accustomed to. But with some persistence, the game becomes very rewarding, but most importantly FUN.

I find the word 'fun' to be the key one here. For me CoD has not been at all enjoyable since Black Ops, with Ghosts being the lowest troughs the series has seen. AW on the other hand, drags the series out of the muddy valley and at least onto the hillside of a peak, if not quite the apex.

Note this game is far from perfect. Still Activision have decided not to provide dedicated servers for the franchise (which I find completely astounding), and so issues with lag, connectivity and the much-hate 'bendy-bullets' persist. Sadly, this seems to have become somewhat of a trademark to the CoD series.

There are some odd implementations from the developer (which are being patched) such as equipment that can only be used for a limited time, and incredibly hard to attain camos (now patched), but overall, many of the new implementations work.

You may have noticed that I have been almost exclusively dedicating my writing towards multiplayer here, however, I have completed the campaign and there's not much to say here. It's the standard story line of most CoD (and modern FPS for that matter) games, with token missions and segments aplenty. One major point in the favour of the campaign is the cutscenes. The next gen power takes these to an entirely new level and they look incomprehensibly realistic.

The game as a whole (including in-engine) looks nice, but this is to be expected of a AAA title nowadays. The sound and music are solid and fairly immersive; especially when in an intense battle online or solo.

In spite of the glitches, mild gripes and standard online issues, CoD: AW is a well built FPS with a new edge for the series. Don't be fooled, this is not a revolution in gaming in any way shape or form. But it does what it says on the tin, it's Call of Duty, and all-in-all, CoD: AW is fun. For me this is the most important thing; after all, isn't that what games are meant for?

I have hated every single CoD ever since Modern Warfare and Black Ops I, but this one has reinvigorated my interest. It feels like a CoD game in its core, sure, but the shooting has never been more fun. The weapons are interesting, each with its own fire rate and recoil, meshes and textures, and more variable than other CoD games. The campaign is better than I thought, being about 13 hours if you play at hardened, with a few twists in the game that almost makes the story break free from the CoD "sh*tty campaign" stereotype, but, ultimately, it's American vs Bad Guys in the end, just as every other shooter out there. If you hated Ghosts you'll love Advanced Warfare. If you didn't play Ghosts you'll still love Advanced Warfare. This game is an absolute blast. I loved Black Ops 2 and now Sledgehammer Games is competing for my top COD!!

I am not the most dedicated Call of Duty fan. I only played three games in the series before my time with Advanced Warfare. I enjoyed Black Ops, hated MW3, and disliked Black Ops 2. However I am surprised on how much I enjoyed AW compared to the other games.

    Pros
+ Campaign missions are a blast with lots of different super-tech death machines to use.
+ Campaign is shorter but I felt more engaged to play it than the other CODs.
+ New abilities like the grapple hook, boost jump, overdrive, shield, etc. are game changing in the whole way a COD game is played.
+ The graphics in this game are unbelievable.
+ Multiplayer is as fun as ever with new modes and customization to try out.
+ Shooting controls are fantastic and majority of guns are very usable and varied.
+ Exo Survival is a fun co-op mode
    + Kevin Spacey!
+ Even though DLC, when zombies come, friendships will be strengthened.

    Cons
    -Short Campaign nevertheless
-Utter Waste of having Troy Baker voice act
    - The Campaign ending (What the hell?)
    - If you hate all COD games, this game won't change anything
    - Only three modes is my biggest problem again concerning a cod game.

Score: 8.1/10 (Rounded to a 8/10) Just because it is COD doesn't mean it is bad! Fun game that should be played before judged.

Let me put it this way: this is the best COD games to date. Love it or hate it, you must admit that this franchise is one of the best in FPS business. So to be the best in it, you must pull a lot up. Surprisingly, this game just does that!!!

As a lot of fan of this franchise (including myself) expected (with fear!) that the new generation exo-suit and stuff may ruin the fast, fluent gameplay of COD. Truth to be told, Sledghammer Games proved me wrong!! It's still the unique COD experience, and with new vision and ecstasy!!

Apart from a little dull single player story line and confusing vehicle controls; this game does it all. From new gen loadouts to futuristic environments, from better graphics to perfect casting; everything is good. It's worth playing.

A welcome outsider take on a consistent series, increasing the pace still further in online multiplayer to fantastic effect. However, solo play feels a bit safe in comparison. [Christmas 2014, p.79]
