The gameplay is still the physics-defying and recoil-less usual, however, in comparison to Ghosts, the graphics are much improved and, more importantly, the story is interesting and fun, especially considering that the campaign stars Troy Baker's and Kevin Spacey's voice-acting. The multiplayer also is more fun than Ghosts, but the CoD franchise still has some ways to go to get my money, since this game, in my opinion, is a re-skined Black Ops 2 for next-gen with a better story. I'll preface this by saying I have loved and played every Call of Duty except Ghosts(didn't play it).

I've put over 100 hours into Call of Duty 2, MW, and MW2 with significant time in Black Ops 1 and 2. I felt really disappointed by this iteration. I've always have slight frustrating games of Call of Duty, but the highs were always enough to get me back. With this it wasn't.

I've always have slight frustrating games of Call of Duty, but the highs were always enough to get me back.

With this it wasn't. The mechanics are fine, guns seem balanced, and I really like the direction they tried to take. Unfortunately I feel like the game is ruined by flawed map design.

The maps in MW and MW2 were really what put those games on top. You had relatively symmetrical maps with the action forced to key choke points.

Advanced Warfare really fails in this area as action can happen anytime and anywhere. Also because they don't force the direction in any way with map design you can go minutes with seeing an enemy.

The map design also leaves you very exposed while you are trying to do your cool Exo moves. I always felt like my deaths were from me getting shot from behind or dying when I had no chance of recovery or response.

So many times I would start a fire fight only to be killed by an enemy that had spawned behind me.

TL;DR Good concept, but flawed map design and respawns ruin a potentially great experience. Would rather just play Titanfall again.

Bought this game after the initial release (11/5/14) and I've already returned it to Gamestop for something else. And I'm still stuck with the season pass (which I paid $50 and tax for), since it is non-refundable. I don't know why I thought that this game would be worth $110, maybe due to all the high, extremely positive reviews and the dramatic advertisements. But it isn't.

I don't know why I thought that this game would be worth $110, maybe due to all the high, extremely positive reviews and the dramatic advertisements. But it isn't.

If we're comparing this to the older games, such as MW or BO, Advanced Warfare has less guns, half of which are near-worthless in combat. The exo suit makes it almost impossible to strategize or pull off large killstreaks (it's bad when the game alerts you when someone reaches a 5 killstreak and all they get is a UAV) because someone is always shooting you in the back, camping on top of a building, or sneaking around in cloak mode. The game has been reduced to extreme camping (hiding in corners while cloaked/shielded or using all the stealth perks to kill those going by) and rushing, of which neither is a more viable option. If you rush, you're likely to be shot in the back by a camper, and even on a 1 vs 1 fight, the game logic is severely flawed. I've literally put clips into enemies only to have them turn around and put a few bullets into my legs to kill me. I watched one of my teammates knife an enemy twice and then get sprayed by the SN6 (submachine gun). And then the spawn system is so screwed up that you can spawn and die within three seconds, or likewise kill an enemy that was running through the spawn point unknowingly.

The game now favors gamers that play excessively more than ever. It takes forever to get attachments/camos that by the time I had reached level 41 (when I quit), I hadn't unlocked a single camo and I was still uncomfortable with the guns I had unlocked. Going positive was considered me doing really well, and if I did any better it was by using dirty methods, such as the melee(which has increased range) and slide-shooting (using the exo suit's sliding ability to dodge the enemy before spraying them to death).

And though there were thirteen maps in the multiplayer, I honestly can't name any of them, and I played the MP for over six hours. So either the maps were that unmemorable or the game simply liked to play the same maps over and over again. Speaking of their designs, I can say that I didn't have a favorite map, but simply maps that sucked less than the others; the few that didn't have really dark corners to hide in or nice ledges for players to perch on.

As for the campaign, I didn't get past the first level. It was so boring and frustrating that I actually prefer Ghost's story, of which I didn't even play. And that's because I didn't get to experience it first-hand, unlike AW's...

Survival was surprisingly fun, but it was about the same as the previous survival modes. You prepare, you beat a wave, and then upgrade your gear. Do this task, refill your inventory, and upgrade your gear. And you make it as far as you can with that setup.

Some people might really love this game, but for me, who liked the older installments of the series (CoD2, MW, BO, BO2) Advance Warfare didn't impress me. In fact, it tried being something it wasn't. Calling it part of the Call of Duty franchise is like saying Destiny was the latest Halo. And for paying $110 for it and not liking it, and only being able to get $45 back... let me offer some advice: Borrow the game from a friend/rent the game before buying it. No one can afford to just throw money away, especially if it's going to a company like Activision. You can choose to listen or not; I'm just trying to keep people from making mistakes. I'd give this game a 6.5 on normal means, but after wasting $70 on a game I didn't like and got rid of, that lowers the score. If one included the pre-order BS CoD pulls off every year, this game really should deserve such a low score. The creators of this game should focus more on what they can give their consumers instead of how much they can get by hanging exclusive content out on a line, hoping people take the bait.

I don't like it this game because it shows itself as more of the same, nothing new. What really annoys me is the fact that you aren't free in the game, you have these game scenes that you HAVE to do it, like a movie. So it doesn't matter what you do, it is just a script that you have to follow and that's not why I like to play games.

To be sure, CoD is not as ambitious as EA/DICE's Battlefield 4 (the standard bearer for all modern FPSs). The maps are smaller, the matches far shorter. It's CoD. But if you've LIKED CoD in the past, you should look at Sledgehammer's newest title. I think it's excellent. Expand

As a COD fan myself, I must say that as the latest addition to the franchise, Advanced Warfare makes Ghosts' graphics look like 8-bit. With improved graphics and game play, with a great story, Advanced Warfare could be the most memorable installment in the series....or the least favorite, depending on other fans.

I wanted to say something good about a Call of Duty game ever since BO2. And I must say. It's awful. It's Titanfall. Even the mechs are awful though. The only quality of this game was the graphics. Which were beautiful I must admit, but that doesn't stop the game from being an absolute fail of what was hyped. This game is overrated already that it's not even funny.

I'll start off with the good about this game. It's mindless fun and runs very smoothly on PS4 and the graphics are relatively good. I haven't played CoD since Black Ops because I wanted a more competitive skill based shooter, but after being a little burnt out on Halo and Battlefield I decided I wanted some simple mindless fun, which this game has provided. It's still the same, "I see youI'll start off with the good about this game. It's mindless fun and runs very smoothly on PS4 and the graphics are relatively good. Now, to the negative.. It's still the same "I see you first, I get the kill." It has been fun playing this no skill game, but I'm already pretty much tired of it and will go back to a shooter that requires skill. This game is just a bunch of people running and flying around very tiny maps shooting each other in the back. Most of the guns feel the same, and pretty much all of them kill you in about 2 to 3 hits. What I actually used to really enjoy about CoD was the killstreaks. The killstreaks in this game are horrible. Some are virtually useless, such as the recon drone where you have to control the drone just to spot enemies while your player is standing out in the open looking at a computer screen and gets murdered because there are no "safe" places in any of the ridiculously small maps. I don't get the excitement of working toward a kill streak in this game as you did with helicopters etc in MW2.

I'll still play this game some when I don't want to have to put effort into being good at other games.. It's a decent game to grab some beers and have a stupid fun night, but that's about it.

Today is probably the last time I will play a call of duty game, sadly. It used to be something to look forward to the new maps, new weapons, and various things. I have been playing call of duty since the very first game so yah, I am older now and I don't have the reflexes of the kiddies so my play style is slower and more tactical.
That said, all of the cool stuff that they have previously had in the game has been removed. The maps, the weapons, everything is designed just to keep guys running from one end of the map shooting at each other. No cool new grenades, no more bettys or claymores because too many people whined about getting blown up.
Remember Black ops 2, it had some cool stuff like the microwave emitter and new things like a plantable shield. AW has that too but it's useless against guys flying over the top of it so why even put it in?
They have a 12 round grenade launcher and other things that go boom but they are utterly useless.
On top of all that this game is just dull too. The maps are lifeless, the narrator sounds generic and bored. The music is flat.
All that said I will get to the jumping. I personally do not like it but I can see that some people would. For me, it does not belong in a call of duty game.
Call of duty started out as a game in which you played or assumed the role of various soldiers in various countries from various time periods such as WW1, WW2, Vietnam, etc. With Ghosts, it was just different factions of guys wearing ski masks.
Now with AW it's the titans vs the sentinels? This game is not call of duty anymore.
For all of the guys who complained that all they ever wanted was to run around with only guns you got what you wanted.
But what about the rest of us that liked cool new weapons and gadgets? This game has the wrist firing grenade launcher but they are all pretty much a waste of time. Just window dressing to show that they are there.
They also have a laser weapon that shoots a constant beam which I really thought was cool, until I realized that guys with bullet firing guns were killing me so fast that it made the E1 a waste of a choice.
The kill streaks are a bummer too. Barely anything flying over head because god forbid we upset anyone from a harrier or helicopter making it too hard for people. And no more good turret anymore that fires on it's own, you have to operate it because hey, we really only want a balanced game.
And lets talk about the flaws in the game. First off, every game has like half the players lagging. Secondly, every time someone chats on their mic or breathes it shows up practically in the middle of the screen. It's like they screwed up on the resolution for just the chat info. This is on the PS4 btw, not sure how the X1 looks.
For all of the complaints at least GHOSTS looked and felt like a war game. The game mechanics were bad, people shooting you in one bullet and shooting you from precarious angles that you could never be shot from in reality.
Does anyone remember MW2 and how many cool points on the map people would fight over, or how BLOPS had an elevator or mounted guns. This new COD has none of that. Remember when the stats were built into the game as in BLOPS?
Remember RPG's, The Javelin, and the army of one bag? None of that here. Just vanilla running and jumping and shooting.
For $59 bucks you take a step back to what COD might have looked like in the 80's had better graphics been available. Yet this is supposed to be futuristic warfare.
This game is the lovechild of Unreal tournament, Call of Duty, Halo, And Titanfall. Except it's NOT a good thing. For all of you that are having fun I salute you but think back to the classic COD games like MW2 where it actually felt like you were in combat.
This AW is a kids game, designed to appeal to very young kids with fast reflexes. And if you listen in to the chat lobby it shows.
And before you say it's because I am bad at this game and to get better, I have been pretty solid at these games, even Ghosts which i didn't care for. But this game, it just is not drawing me in and I bet the servers for this game dry up in a couple months.

I enjoyed the games campaign mode it was full of decent varied missions from the stealth where you have to not be detected to the all out mayhem of just blowing stuff up and endless killing. the best part about these missions are the new Exo abilities, though they are only tailor made for each mission which could've been better allowing you to chose which abilities you wanted they were decent though i did find myself just wanting the double jump. another downside there is only one mission which allows you to use the stealth suit exo which I found rather enjoyable, yes you can use it online but it is easily visible to the other players and quite obvious the person is there if you pay attention. Now onto the main part of the review, which yes I am writing this a bit out of anger due to my last play session, the online multiplayer is fun. as long as you have friends to play with and talk to; to keep yourself from concentrating too much. (if you're a player like I am, who games better when not putting all my brain power into getting revenge over other players who have P****d me off) I found myself struggling to play online well enough to not want to rage quit the matches and stay online due to not having many friends who I talk to and play with online on this new iteration. when playing online I found myself playing against people who have put hours into each map to find the best spots to camp or to head glitch and make sure they're nigh invisible. The online aspect of the game is quiet well rounded and I like the new 'Supply Drops' which give you new equipment such as guns with stat boosts which come with a downgrade to other stats to equal it out. I also enjoy customising my character to make them my own by using the equipment gained from 'Supply Drops' the graphics on the game are phenomenal this is mostly noticed when it comes to the cut scenes within the story as i felt like the characters looked as close to real as i have ever seen in a game. I got a bit side tracked, back to Multiplayer, the addition of the double boosts and dashes as such are a good addition to the game to make it that much more fast paced which is what i like about Call of Duty games, their pace the gameplay in this addition reminds me of MW2 which is great as that is one of my favourites in the series. In also like the map design there are several different styles of maps which is great as there are maps which want you to keep moving and jumping around but doing so does put you at a bit of a disadvantage as it makes you vulnerable, but there are other maps which rely on close combat and quick wits and reactions. Over all the game is great i enjoy the multiplayer (when i have people to be on with) and the campaign was great even though its a tad bit predictable. all in all one of my favourites in the franchise. The maps do not allow any tactical advantages or hot spots. By doing this, this allows the game to be a constant barrage of deaths from behind and a "whoever sees the first person first wins" type mechanic. For people who like a truely fast paced experience this game ups the ante from normal CODs with its EXO suit abilities. The vertical movements allow you an opportunity to dodge opponents, however unlikely. As someone who considers Call of Duty 4 one of the greatest games ever, I only wish AW would revert to a more simpler aesthetic than that of AW. There's a lot of things to consider when outputting your class. This in my opinion takes away from the skill in the game and just brings more of a chaotic game. They have decided to replace the ability to have both tactical and lethal grenades in place of choosing one or the other and outfitting yourself with EXO abilities that are incredibly lame and useless. The graphics in this game are fantastic, facial expression top notch, and Kevin Spacey is great as you would come to expect. All in all, this is the same COD we've been playing for years. After the honeymoon phase of having a new "fresh" title, you realize its all the same. Missions take from past titles, and are recycled. I feel this game is just another flavor of the month game and with such promising titles coming out this November, COD AW is one you can skip or just experience through a rent. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Have you ever wondered what Lester the unlikely would ply like if he had powered armour and a gun?
no? Neither did I but sledgehammer games sought to answer that question anyway. CoD:AW, while being a pretty game, with solid voice acting, and all the action and gimmicky moments you expect from the series relies on a "on trick pony" to move the plot along in nearly EVERY FREAKING LEVEL.

    --------------------------------------------------MINOR SPOILERS AHEAD------------------

Nearly every level has one Guaranteed moment where you are somehow stunned, pinned against wall by something, fall into some pitfall and are stunned, get sucker punched as you open a down and Knocked down or out, and something dramatic happens that may or may not move the plot forward. the first time, is admitly cool where you fall off a moving truck but use mag grips (gloves) to catch yourself on the side, jump to another moving vehicle to rip the armor off, grab and toss the driver into a pillar and back on to he previous truck and it's all down hill from there.

Alright right just kill a group of enemies, time to enter the hous...oohhhhnoooo I'm been sucker punched and knocked down for the umpteenth time aren't I badass yuk yuk yuk. Every level save maybe two, never fails. It's like a Survival horror game that tries to use only jump scares every five minutes to bring the horror. It only works once and the novelty wears off pretty fast. . When you have to rely on the same gimmick every level to move your plot forward, it might be time to fire your writer.

My only other complaint about the complain is the friendly fire penalty. The one thing the series has not evolved past from when CoD was a ww2 series. When you are playing on veteran, you often don't have time to check if the guy shooting in your direction is friendly or not. Specially in the wide open areas where the battle has become rather chaotic. On numerous occasions I've had to restart check point having almost completed a task only to have a friendly npc run in front of me as I was shooting at something making me start completely over. Or as I said accidentally shot a friendly cause he was shooting in my general direction as I peeked out from cover and only have a split second to react due to the difficulty I am play on.

Other than the story is pretty good, though it relies on many of the CoD tropes from games prior.
The armor abilities were more subdued than I thought they would be, but it's to the benefit of the setting.
not every game with "power armor" can be Crysis, and thankfully CoD did not try to get.
Sure, there is stealth and increased jump power/double jumping, but you also get a "Sonic" sound attack
That stuns a bit, a riot shield to help you get to that next piece of cover, little strafing boosts to help get you out of trouble, along with a few other neat little tricks.

The weapons feel solid, and sound good. The Grenades have a new trick to them, allowing you to switch it's type on the fly rather than having you use which lethal or tactical or have on you.

The multiplayer is standard CoD fare with added movement abilities thanks to the power armor to spice things up a bit. If you liked the previous games competitive or survival modes then you'll find plenty to be happy with. New kill streaks, some interesting, some not, some brought over previous games.
You also get "supply drops" Which grants new, sometimes temporary items of various sorts.
"modified" varients of guns that fire faster, hit harder, or are more accurate, "supply drops" that occur at
a set interval of your next match and ever armor/gear.

The is one last issue I need to address. the $50 season pass. Activision what kind of crack are you smoking?! I don't care how good your game is, there is no way I'm spending that kind of money for "DLC" I can get a whole other game, maybe even two if I buy used with twice as much content as the DLC. $20 while still pricey, would be a fairer price.

Speaking of armor and gear, a feature that was in ghosts that I enjoyed makes a return, the ability to customize your "operator's" look.
Though the Squads mode does not make a return. Still not being locked into a specific character model
be it male or female is an always welcomed touched.

So, all and all if you are someone whom follows the series with enthusiastic glee then you'll feel right at home. If you hated the games prior, then you still won't find much to redeem it, aside from solid voice acting and pretty visuals, and if you are sitting on the fence then consider renting first.

The Call of Duty series has garnered as much hatred as it has admiration. With COD it's hard not to make comparisons to past entries in the series. Even with this in mind, the game excels and surpasses even the most beloved COD games.
With this iteration things have been turned up to 11. The set pieces are bigger, things are definitely prettier and the game runs silky smooth. It feels fresh and the extra year they spent on the game definitely shows.

I think the reason gamers are hating on this one is that it hasn't revolutionized the series. It's not the game-changer everyone had hoped for. It's still a great game, but it is a COD game at it's heart. If you go into it with the expectation that it will be very similar to past games in the series, with a few changes and you enjoyed those past games, you will surely not be disappointed.

I do have to add that this game takes a huge dump on ghosts.

The game is still fun to play as COD has always been. It deserves better ratings than what it is being given.

Yes I am still waiting for the breakthrough in some game to take me away from my COD fix. Nothing ever compares to the fast pace of the COD franchise. This game is an 8/10 and still waiting for something else.

But when it all boils down, it's still the same old yearly CoD game, with an extra $50 thrown on there for "extra" content that should have either been offered for free, or been included on day 1. This installation into the Call of Duty series really just goes to show how scared Activision and all the Dev companies behind CoD are to really get to work and give us a brand new game. If it isn't clear to you by now that this franchise is only out to take your money and give you the same game every year, then you are either very blind, or you love mediocrity more than anything. If you are a CoD fan boy, you will most likely be happy with this years edition. Because the ability to talk trash and make rude remarks towards other people online is still a very "hip" thing to do. As a matter of fact, it's almost become part of the game itself. The fact that this game is considered a "competitive" game absolutely boggles my mind as well. On a more positive note, if you've got some friends from school, or some buddies at work who are all going to play it, the game is still fun to screw around online with friends, and the leveling/prestige & rewards system always makes you feel like you're accomplishing something. But with games like Destiny, Borderlands, Dragon Age Inquisition (with it's recently announced co-op feature) and many others, this yearly re-hash of the same game will not be enough to keep this game afloat. The gaming community is desperate for a new "great" game. And when these AAA titles keep disappointing us game after game, it makes you wonder what these millions and even billions of dollars are going towards. Expand

I can see through walls with my gun sight (wall hack). I can shoot through walls (another wall hack). Another gun site lights up all players in front of you in bright red (Skinning Hack). Another gun will track onto lit up targets (Aimbot). Now if that isn't enough to make you an uber player... let's bring in the toys..... shall we? We now have "Homing Grenades" yes, the hand grenades can be tossed in the general direction of the enemy and they will home in onto them, no defense. You have hand grenades that light up every player camping in a building. So I pull out my no skill, shoot through a wall gun, and casually kill everyone. - Homing drones. Yes, boys and girls, you can take this paper airplane looking thing... toss it into the air without a care in the world, and it will fly over the battlefield and when it sees someone, homes in on them. Now, we have drones, that allow everyone to see everyone on the battlefield. A player tosses one of these no brainers into the air, and other players on the team, can join in on the fun, and rain hell down on everybody. And since it sees everyone on the field. You can kill everyone pretty easy. Lightning strikes obliterate anyone in it's path. Cover or no cover. If it flys over, you're dead.

Oh the nifty new dodge feature/gimmick. It allows you to glitch your movement. It's not fluid, and it looks stupid, because the animation is stuck while you do it. And it lights you up on the minimap instantly when you bolt a few feet in a direction. Then you're dead because since the maps are so small, everyone can shoot everyone as long as you can see them. Since everyone can pretty much see everyone, what's the point? You may as well avoid all that, remove the buildings. Put everyone on a flat surface and give them all uzi's.

Sound is horrid. Simply horrid. My surround sound headphones that are normally filled battle sounds and positional sound mapping, is confusing, because sounds just go in and out at random. Very quiet battles. Nobody yelling, nobody saying anything.

Oh a shotgun can be silenced. Shoots like a full automatic rifle, and sounds like a small handgun. The positional 3D should be disabled, because where the footsteps seem to be coming from one direction, they are actually someplace else, because the sound processing is so weak, it's confusing. Turn off your surround sound gear because it makes things worse.

Graphics.... ON a high end graphics card, it is pretty bad. No shading, I don't see any benefit for having shadows on, because you really can't see them, but they do appear to have a negative impact on performance,.... shut them off, because they aren't needed and will make things worse.

Maps are tiny. Tiny tiny. If you play Battlefield, Imagine taking a server of 24 people. Cram them all between A and B objectives on Metro. You get the idea. That's what ALL the maps are like. A smaller, crammed full small Rush Metro map. That's their "Conquest" size map. I get claustrophobic just loading into the map. If you want a quality, fast shooter, that requires some skill... Go play Titanfall. It's much more of everything COD:AW wants to be and more.

I wasn't a COD hateboy before buying this, but I am now. This is a joke. If you like it...good for you, but you must be seriously, easily amused or on a console. This is not PC gaming material. It's nearly an insult.

Following the disappointing Ghosts, Advanced Warfare marks a return to form for the Call of Duty series.

Campaign - While the majority of my time thus far has been spent in multi-player, what I have played from the campaign has been enjoyable, and a clear step up from recent COD titles.
The game looks gorgeous visually, and the character performances allow you to become immersed in what has been, for the first few hours, a coherent narrative. The "Advanced Warfare" also helps keep missions fresh, providing new toys to play with and experiences that aren't exactly identical to previous COD's. The only issue I've had thus far is with the quick time events. The prompts are so small you can miss them if you are drawn in to the action around you, which causes you to replay a section.

Multi-player - Fortunately this game builds off the multi-player from Black Ops2 and acts as if Ghosts never existed. This means the game has went back to the more traditional and addictive ways of unlocking items and completing challenges.
Some new features include the ability to modify score-streaks, a pick 13 system (instead of 10) and supply drops. The supply drops could have been an issue, since they are random, if it was the only way to unlock equipment, but instead they just add to the experience since they provide new apparel and modified versions of weapons that you can receive simply be leveling up.
The game also returns old modes while providing new as well, Uplink. Really there is something for everyone. Don't like the exo-suit? There is a classic playlist that allows you to play without it. However, that may be a mistake since the suit does open the game up and changes the dynamic of the entire experience. It provides a sense of experimentation and wonderment that has largely been absent from the series since the initial Modern Warfare.
The main negative at the moment has been lag and connectivity issues. This can be a major problem in a game like this, but it also is the first week, so such issues are not unexpected. It is worth monitoring how this is addressed or if it stabilizes here in the near future.

COD may not be the thinking-man's tactical first-person-shooter, but what Advanced Warfare does is bring the fun back to the series. And really, isn't that what you are looking for when you purchase and play a Call of Duty title?

After taking a break from Call Of Duty after Black Ops.. yes quite a few games ago.. I decided to give COD another go. Oh boy

I'm honestly confused as to how major review outlets look at this game, play it, and then give it 8 and above. It's sad really. What they are doing is supporting re-packaging and ignorance.

COD was designed to be a drug (just like Destiny). Get to the next fix. Doesn't matter that it's the same thing every time. It's only about the high. There is always a new unlock, a new killstreak, yada yada to try and fuel this mundane affair.
Meanwhile, beaming jingoism into your eye sockets and filling your ears with explosions and the cussing of prepubescent children (even though they are sadly mostly adults), the game is yet again, another rehash, reskin, re-re-er, etc. Reminder: this analysis is coming from someone who hasn't played COD since 2010.

Everything about the game feels extremely dated (no, adding an ability to jump Halo style or skid sideways does not make it different). The graphics, in all honesty, are some of the worst I've seen in 2014. They are just bland with washy textures and are life-less. To give you an idea, while you are watching an in-game POV cutscene, there is motion blur and depth of field (those add a realistic texture / fillmick look), but the second the game gives you control, the motion blur and DOF are gone. Interesting design choice......

As I noted before, the ability to jump around doesn't really make the game any different. Actually, the only noticeable gameplay difference I noticed from the added feature was.. people can now camp on roofs. It's weirdly transformed the game from a fast paced shooter to a slow camping nightmare. If the maps were bigger and the people online 'more intelligent' then maybe that could be interesting, but it's not.

Campaign wise - there's almost no reason to talk about it honestly. Like all COD campaigns, the stories are like an overly long Michael Bay 'Pearl Harbors' (wait that was long) that you just want to get through for the achievements. In fact, the games even more linear than I remember.. and Black Ops was linear.

I received this game as a gift so.. price wise I can't complain. If you have $60.. do not... do not.. spend it here. If you do spend it.. enjoy the pop ups in the game trying to get you to spend another $50 on the DLC. Yes, everyday the game will pop up asking you to buy the DLC.

The Supply drops are interesting to receive, since you wouldn't know what 3 items could be inside, an easy way to exploit your way into getting one is to quickly get yourself killed at the start of any game mode match which is odd, since it works every time.

The graphics are good, it was just not my main focus when I was playing this game or it just didn't stand out to me to start taking a screenshot every sec. The sound, some guns sounded great while some just sounded a bit weak.

What is making this game for me fun? The Exo movement, it was a much notable function that was more then what I was expecting. You could dash on the ground or while in the air in any direction or slam down on an enemy. While in the match it just feels funs jumping and dashing everywhere to kill other people doing the same thing, it's pretty arcadey, which I like.

You could still play split-screen along with a friend online which is a positive of me.

There are no kill streaks, It's now called score streaks. It's when you gather enough points for your uav or something. There are not that many since you can now instead upgrade your score streak in multiple ways, like for the Uav you can have it last longer and/or send it orbital where it can't be shot down and/or have it detect where enemies are pointing and much more. It would cost the streak more, but it would make it a lot better, so it actually happens to have more score-streaks then you may have thought. A feature that I happen to appreciate highly, since it rewards for those who support or just follow the objectives.

Pick 13, not sure if that was a good decision, but it does work well. You can remove your score streaks for more points or add another one, which is nice. Other then that it's the same as it was in Black Ops 2.

Good Job Sledge Hammer, you managed to create a CoD that's fun to play.

I just found it and the gameplay to be good, just not spectacular. But (and it's a big but) don't listen to the 0 and 1 star reviews. That's ridiculous. You know the series. You know what to expect. I can't get used to the new exo movements, I don't know if I'm being slow or what, but I find myself staying in the classic playlists.
The guns don't feel well balanced, assault rifles are by far superior to all the other weapons, with high damage outputs and laser accuracy. Not sure if the multiplayer is uses hosts or servers, but I constantly find myself with a 1 bar connection, meaning I always seem to shoot last. Also find the teams stacked, on my side or the other, I either do well and get a decent score or shockingly and go negative 10.
I don't get what people are saying in their reviews when they say that 'this is the best looking shooter'. It runs at 60fps, yes, but didn't all the CoDs with their simple style? Battlefield 4 looks far superior to this, which actually looks realistic. To me it's a smoother version of all the past CoD games. I'd happily see a Modern Warefare 2 Redux for the Xbox One, perhaps a Halo:MCC, but consisting of CoD 4, MW2 and MW3. I'd get to play my favourite CoD and Activision can make heaps of cash, we both win! Back to this game...
The genre is tired, laser guns are boring, Titanfall is for mech suits or whatever they're called. Bring it back to current-day tech, or the the past. Those games were fun and believable.
Overall unimpressed, all this has made me do is go blow the dust off my 360 and stick in MW2, which is by far, at least for me, the benchmark, with superior map design a noticeable distinction (What happened to map designs, not been a game I like the maps on since Halo: Reach and MW2). I'm unimpressed frankly, and await to see what rubbish comes out next year, labeled as good purely because of the brand. The only way you can tell if you like this is to play it, as reviewers are always rating Call of Duty games higher than they deserve, in my opinion. This game might deserve higher than my 3, but no way is it IGN's 9 either. Just because the name of the game is CoD doesn't mean it's going to be great.

Distinctly below average, in my humble, humble opinion.

They surprised me this year. I always wanted cod to make a fun game again and so far they have. Plus this has to be one of the best cod campaigns i have played. I don't need to go into detail, but if you have not liked the past cods but still have a place in your heart for this game then you should pick this up. This cod is exactly what it needs to be with out being exactly what i use to be.

This game is clearly the best cod since black ops. It has much more colors than ghosts had and the multiplayer is smooth. The campaign is longer but still very short but I give this game a 10 to carry up the score a bit. I don't understand how people can give the game 1 points because it's just bad. No game is so bad that they deserves a 1/10 score.

I can;'t remember the last Call of Duty I played, the most memorable for me would've been the first Modern Warfare. After that I grew tired of the same thing happening every year while nothing else changed. It might be for the fact that I've not played the franchise for a few years that I'm actually really enjoying it so far.

I don't care what platform people own, its preferential choice at the end of the day. I'm reviewing the PS4 version because its the version I have. I expect the XB1 version to be pretty much identical just as I would expect last generation versions to be similar among themselves.

If you enjoy COD buy this game, if you're after a game which doesn't involve much thinking, can be played with friends and is genuinely entertaining buy this game. If you're insecure about the platform you own - grow up.

Too bad this happened to COD franchise. Ever since Black Ops 1 it has gone just downwards bit by bit. Every COD have something to try to ruin the game like juggernaut (perk), last stand (perk), Ghost's dog for camping, but this COD have way too many of them and just bad design overall.

I would not recommend spending money on this game. Or the 50$ required for the DLC with the "zombies" add-on.

Besides, there is way more change here compared to every FIFA or Madden iteration. There was nothing wrong with the call of duty formula. The Positive reviews on those far outweigh the Negatives by almost 10 to 1 on those titles. In Advanced Warfare, we now have a ratio of almost 1 to 1, and I'm a little suspicious how these numbers don't match the "Most Helpful" comments numbers. I feel like the true score seems to be 2-3 haters for every 1 "over the top", positive review. Do you think in those few years people have gotten that more nasty just for the sake of it? I think not.

This game has not changed since Modern Warfare 2, and none of these reviewers including myself are stupid enough to not realize this. The game engine has NOT changed much at all since then. This is because the genius coders behind the original making of this unbelievable franchise have ALL left working on Call of Duty. COD has been a "Mod" ever since MW2 is the fact of the matter.

Advanced Warfare has nothing special besides some latest outsourced facial scans and swarms of objects that have already been overdone. The Multiplayer is by far the most disappointing, with almost no noticeable positive difference. What we have instead is taking the skill away from playing of the game. This "exo-ability" is the equivalent of an age old issue of "bunny hoping", but now the game is as kill-less pray and spray with people hoping around out of control. "Bunny hoping" on steroids if you will.

Only because Sledgehammer games has an actual well-organized team do I give this a 2/10. Looking forward to Treyarch's game which we can count on being much better due to their experience with this franchise. I just hope it's not too late for Call of Duty by then...

I honestly think this new addition to the Call of Duty series is quite a good game, nothing special but it definitely does not deserve all the bad user ratings it has gotten. That being said, the campaign mode, however enjoyable it may have been, was far too short, if you buy this game at full price, you don't really get your money's worth.
I have just recently started the multiplayer mode and must say I'm happy they've actually tried to make the experience more different, even if it is not ALL THAT different! The exo-suit, while it does not provide you with a whole load of new abilities you'd expect, it still has a few really cool helpful tricks that you might enjoy and prove to save your ass during battle. The Exo Launchers and Exo Ability slots also have some cool selections to choose from that can be of great use when you're in a pinch. This opens the game up to a lot of different ways of playing, coming up with different tactics, and just feels pretty damn cool. If you were expecting a totally new Call of Duty game however, apart from the stuff I just mentioned, there's not a whole lot, but I'm satisfied with what they have changed.

TL;DR: Good game with an enjoyable but short campaign, with some great differences in the multiplayer mode but probably not worth buying at full price.

Let's just get this out of the way...it is a lot like Titanfall. The setting, the styling, not so much in the play style department. Titanfall isn't as fast. Call of Duty was always fast but this one cranks it up ten notches to almost Unreal Tournament levels. Now I am aware that this comparison is almost blasphemous but I would say that Advanced Warfare is more in lines with it than Titanfall which just shares the aesthetically similar traits. It is fast, frantic, and for once is a long time, almost tactical. You have options on how to approach every scenario. This is largely due to the level design which is so heavily measured around the new movement. They remind me of the multi tired levels of Uncharted or maybe Halo. It simply is the only COD i've been interested fully since...well hell...no of them really. I like BLOPS 2 but mostly because of zombies with friends. I actually go out of my way to play this on. Everything just works and is well executed. I'm the end my final words would have to be that i'm glad i took a chance on this game. Here's the deal. I'm a BF4 fan, but I love video games and am eager to play anything good....especially in the FPS genre. And CoD:AW is good. It's great, in fact. To be fair, the last several iterations of CoD, apart from the occasional sparkle of ingenuity with BlOps and BlOps 2, were boring....with inexcusably antiquated mechanics rehashed over and over again in ways that were intolerable from my perspective. CoD: AW, though, is a refreshing change, without question. Everything that turned me off of modern CoD games has been resolved with this game, IMO. Mobility is fresh and fluid. And, sound! Something DICE does so well and is so important to the overall shooter experience....thank god, Sledgehammer has put some well-deserved attention here. I'm not talking about musical score. Frankly, I don't give a **** about that. It's the ambient sound.....the little crunches and clicks and clinks of gear shifting and moving and moving-parts adjusting/settling into place.....all that little stuff just does it for me. I don't know why, but it does. It its about time that someone in CoD franchise started paying attention. Graphics are better...smoother...more liquid. Mobility...and this one is important...character mobility is MUCH more liquid, without compromising that classic CoD "twitch" that everyone loves. The new mobiilty gives the twitch legs to stretch out with. And this is important because CoD can't pull off what DICE pulls off and needs an element of compensation...and mobility helps in this regard. CoD can't pull off depth/diversity of setting that BF demonstrates. BF maps live and breathe......they are an extension of BF's dynamicism. We're talking destruction, size, scope. Immersion. CoD isn't wired for that...they're maps are still inert, for the most part, inert. There is a nod to "levolution" style events that crop up in some of the maps...like the tidal wave, for instance, in the Defender map....but to me, this shows that Sledge wants to take things that work in other games to apply to there's...in an effort to pump some life into previously and progressively lifeless franchise. But where the maps themselves are inert...the characters themselves, conversely, are blissfully mobile. I've never played Titanfall (play on PS4) but mobility is what made that game exciting, from what I understand. And CoD: AW takes it and adds a sheen of hyper-clarity that BlOps has done well with in the past, to create an almost hallucinatory FPS experience. It is fun. The advanced weapons play on this kind of "break-through" experience too. They're not absurdly advanced as to be unbelievable. They're advanced enough to refresh.

Cod still has something of an "arcade" quality that keeps it from satisfying on the "epic" BF level. But it stopped trying for that sometimes after CoD. This new game finally pulls off what CoD has become resigned to.....and it does it extremely well. The bottom line is that this is the first time I've felt excited playing CoD since...well...since CoD I and II. I imagine this'll be the first time I don't resort to trading in the game shortly after purchase, as I've done so many times in the past.

Absolutely love this game! I come from Battlefield and didn't touch a CoD since MW2 but I gotta say, this is just incredible. And no, I wasn't paid to write this. People just gotta learn the exo movement and don't judge the game because they don't put enough time into it. 10/10, would buy again.. probably ^^

That was a great campaign. Much better than Ghosts and Black Ops. Multiplayer seems decent so far. Those cut scenes are absolutely lifelike. I don't think I've ever seen better graphics in cut scenes. It looks insane. The in mission graphics looked pretty good, but not on the same level as the cut scenes. The multiplayer looks just a bit less than the campaign.

The last time I felt this much excitement to go home after work to play Call of Duty was Modern Warfare. The singleplayer is epic with good graphics, good voice acting and good action. The multiplayer is addictive as ever with fast paced gameplay, different perks and customization options. But this game has change this franchise.
After the horrible disaster of Ghost, this game actually is a great, fun, simple games.
    The General:
This game has AMAZING GRAPHICS, you cannot say it has bad graphics.
While on the ps3 and xbox 360 graphics looks decent, the current gen ps4 and xbone has beautiful, stunning graphics.
The controls are easy to get use to. A baby could play it.
The hit detections are great, easily one of the best.
Now the animations in this game are OUTSTANDING, its smooth, and nice.
Now the newest editions are the EXOS ability, and i gotta say, they are very well balance except the one that gives you more health. It was a concerned but you guys can calm your nips, its very well balance.
Even while it has the exos, the gameplay is still at its CALL OF DUTY finest

    The SinglePlayer:
The singleplayer is great, the storyline is alright but the performance of Kevin Spacey, and Troy Baker makes it gripping, and entertaining. They performance are amazing, everyone in the singleplayer acting/voice acting is top notch. The only downside is that i wish the story was better, but i was addicted to the singleplayer cause of the acting.

    The Co Op:
Its a decent co op but its disapointing. While its not as good as zombies but its average. Its fun for a few hours, and has a great easter egg about zombies. And once you beat the easter egg, you will get an awesome zombies skin for your multiplayer, which is cool and sick.

Now to the core of the game....
    The Multiplayer:
This multiplayer is addictive, fun, and entertaining.
With gamemodes returning to this fun shooter, hardpoint, capture the flag, war(momentum) etc
This will be a great competitive shooters for mlg and for people who wanna have fun.
But my favorite game mode is the new game mode "Uplink" which is a mix of capture the flag and dodgeball.
You have to get a ball thats randomly place in the map called the satellite, and you have to run to your enemy spawn where it has the floating goal. You could throw the ball for a point, and get in the goal for 2 points. But heres the catch, you can't use a weapon with the satellite, so it takes strategy and skills to play this game.
The maps in this game is well designed and it beautiful to look at. There is no bad maps in this game in my opinion, they are just well designed.

    My rating is a 9/10
    Pros:
    Addictive, great Multiplayer
    Fun to play
    Great graphics
    Phenomenal voice acting
    Sounds are amazing
    Well balance multiplayer
    Cons:
    Disapointing Co op
    Stale storyline of singleplayer

I recommend you get this game, its a new experience, and is very addictive :)

This game seems very different from any of the other CODs I've been around. It took me 4 or 5 matches to get used to the double jump and side shifts, but I think it works nicely.
There are still the general campers, but what PvP game online doesn't? The key difference from other COD games is the amount of vertical movement that goes on. Rather than everyone being on the 'floor' with the occasional sniper in one of the 3 vantage point spots, these maps usually have 3 height levels. A change, but you learn to look up a little more often. The pace is faster than earlier versions, but you 'catch up' pretty quickly. Several people are making the Titanfall comparisons, which sounds accurate but I did read that these guys started planning this game out a year before Titanfall went to work, so they just got released sooner. I don't see that being a reason to start saying "merrr, they copied them!".
Anywho, overall I've had a lot of fun playing this in the last few hours (still need to check out campaign, but that's an afterthought for me). As far as cons go, I think some of the new movement needs a bit more polish. Or maybe I just need to practice it more. Also, the spawning points online seem a little finicky. Some spawns you are surrounded by teammates, others you take three steps and get hit by an enemy. If you've played any CODs before, you know they'll touch up on this in an update in a week or two.
There is just a quite a little to get used to, so I'm going to get back to it. Happy gaming, people!.

Let's not talk about the horrible addition to CoD last year that was Ghosts. Sledgehammer has developed their own vision for CoD's future, ands it works effectively. Multiplayer elements such as the jumpsuit are well balanced, and the campaign is a blast to play. If anything, this is the most fun CoD since the MW2-BO I era, and I fully embrace this change.

Advanced Warfare may just well be the best Call of Duty game, if only because it tries to be Titanfall. Which was a damn good game, for all of its lack of content. It's just another call of duty run-and-gun antigravity mess, but now you can jump upwards like you've installed commando and attacked the sun, and you can dash to the side. Glad they're taking ideas from both Titanfall, and a flash game from 2001.

So, originality? Not exactly this game's finest. But, to be fair, it works. It's an acceptable game, and it met my low expectations.
TL;DR Literally painful visuals (It isn't **** cinematic, IGN, it looks like the characters have pedalbin trashcans on their heads when they talk. Their mouths flap open like god damn Goat Simulator.), an unoriginal concept that's executed in a boring way, gameplay that is now more **** and less predictable than CoD: Goats, and an acceptably made shooter overall.
Still, this does more than most games at disproving the theory that games can be considered art. I don't think that anyone made ye olde mad stacks by ripping off the Mona Lisa once every **** year.
