Solid AC, personally i enjoyed it way more than last two entries. Specially from story and map design standpoint. It's just interesting to explore England and Norway. Empty desert in Origins and endless amount of Islands in Odyssey were just meh. But seems like they have almost perfected their idea how to make huge open world maps interesting.

Only reason i even started caring about AC series was AC 4. Making AC 4 is literally best decision Ubisoft has ever done. I'm so, so, so glad that this Desmond **** went finally away. Reason most people play these games i going back in time, not some modern day nonsense. I wish these games never had modern day, but it is what it is, thankfully AC games got so much better starting with AC 4. AC 3 was just horrible. Ubisoft, you should only listen to your real fans, not this minority who doesn't even care about anything you have done since 2013. They are almost as annoying as people who whine under every resident evil 4 remake video, that they want code veronica remake more. Resident evil 4 is million times better game, more important game and more popular game. These who whine about code veronica are also just small group of people who don't even care about resident evil 4 at all. It's literally same with thing with AC games. Ubisoft announced that Assassin's Creed Valhalla was biggest launch in AC history, it was also nominated for Best Action / Adventure game. It has so much content and it's overall very fun, enjoyable game. Hater can just leave, because you all already lost. This game is Massive Success and nothing will change that fact! I have strong feeling some people lie, so they could justify giving extremely low score. There's no way these people are "Assassin's Creed" fans. Valhalla has been very enjoyable so far, i'm impressed with graphics, but also soundtrack. Just this main menu music alone might be one of the best they have done. Of course Black Flag had different vibe and i like both games music equally.

No idea why people are giving this a 10, it's pretty basic, most of the combat animations are on repeat, the map is large but devoid of anything interesting (much of it seemingly randomly generated), random quests lack imagination (burn this down, collect X number of Y or answer a riddle), the map is locked down via power bloat rather than increasing challenge in the enemies move setsNo idea why people are giving this a 10, it's pretty basic, most of the combat animations are on repeat, the map is large but devoid of anything interesting (much of it seemingly randomly generated), random quests lack imagination (burn this down, collect X number of Y or answer a riddle), the map is locked down via power bloat rather than increasing challenge in the enemies move sets (Random footman in X territory does 100 damage while his clone elsewhere does 1000).

Effectively everything is given just enough polish to make it seem passable at first glance, however once you play it for more than a few hours you'll note how little respect the game has for your time.

The game is very disappointing in comparison to Odyssey and I like it even slightly less than Origins. The game has loaded me into an infinite sequence of my character falling thru the map, but luckily that went away after a few days before the new year. I find the leveling up more grindy than Odyssey. I would love to level up enough to unlock no fall damage, am level 45, going for 280. Fantastic

Of course RDR2 is better than Valhalla, but here's the thing - It's also better than all the other recent open world games. RDR2 is once in a decade masterpiece, why would anyone compare other games to it and then act like Valhalla is meh. No, Valhalla is not meh. Just cause RDR2 is out of this world masterpiece doesn't mean that every game that can't be equally good, is automatically meh. That's not how it works. It's not only fact that RDR2 had way way way longer development time, it's also fact that Rockstar is flagship of open world games in general. Absolutely no game in history of video games has as good weather effects as RDR2. Does that mean that every game that has worse effects is now meh? I don't think so. Now it's solid open-world AC game, but sadly it's not better than Black Flag. I just wish story/mission design was more interesting or unique. Black Flag had all kinds of unique mission designs and also story was better. In Valhalla missions aren't that interesting, but there's still many fun ones. But true star of Valhalla is it's open world and freedom to do whatever you feel like. That's what was missing from AC 1 for me, because these games can simply be so much more than just generic assassination games. AC is not and should not be Hitman. AC should be ALWAYS compared to games like GTA or Red Dead Redemption. You can do so much more in these games than just the basic story stuff and that same logic should apply to AC and most people seem to understand that. It seems to be minority who complains that AC is not so linear anymore. Most people seem to like that freedom and more activities. This open world is there for a reason! Might as well fill that open world with content and that's what Ubisoft did in both Black Flag and Valhalla, even Unity and Syndicate. That is the right direction.

I normally start in stealth mode until they see me but you can try any tactic you feel to. Also, you can try different kind of weapons and develop abilities. The game is long (it is said that the main story lasts about 60 hours) but so far I didn't get bored of the gameplay but I do think this kind of games should last about 20-30 hours. About the story, it progress slowly. The viking atmosphere it is well done but it won't be as impressive as the buildings in Odyssey or Origins. A very good thing compared with the other two last games is that you don't need to do sidequests to level up your character so that you can easily advance in the game. About the main character I chose the default option which it will be a female character for most of the game but I really liked her voice. It matches really well with the character. My main complaints would be the slow progress of the story (although it doesn't feel tedious), also it should have been more polish. So far I think this game would deserve a 7'5 or an 8. Not a bad game but it could have been better. Also, I think that they should left behind all the Assassin's Creed brand and start a new game from zero or make individual games. I had the same feeling with Origins and Odyssey. If you ask me, Ghost of Tsushima is better than this game but again, this is not a bad a game. Expand

I don't feel the bloodlust I am supposed to feel slashing enemies. instead, it feels like I am cutting a pile of paper, even slashing sounds are underwhelming with all those whooshy-whooshy sound fx. Running feels like eivor floats on some clouds, not interacting with the ground one bit. Even WoW, probably, has more camera shake.
The game is so plain and simple, almost like an alpha version. Sadly if AC Valhalla were a food, it would be cereal with water.

This game left me so dissatisfied that I'm almost sad. I am going to give it another shot after a while and hopefully manage to like it this time.

Watch cut scene with some attempt at shock factor. Add some terrible voice acting. Make me run across a big vast space of boringness. Mash a few baddies, spend ages in a big crappy 3D world, listen to more crap acting, repeat.

Now any game that is good looking is considered a masterpiece. All it really is, is a long, slow, badly written, drawn out film. Like some shoddy Hollywood flop.

Maybe a few gay millennials are shocked by some of the scenes. Personally, I find them predictable and pointless.

These aren't games anymore, they are just **** films.

No wonder Cobra Kai was so popular. You people seem to love 2 hrs worth of content dragged out over 40 hours. Even at 2 hours it would be mediocre at best.

These 3D open world games are a gaming disaster. 9 times out of 10, they're ****

All these 10/10 scores saying hater this, hater that. I'm not a hater. Ubisoft have a massive centre near me. They help the local economy. I have no hate for the company. I don't dislike them. I actually really like some of their other games. I played Ghost of Tsushima recently, which was the same but even worse but bad for the same reasons.

I feel I would have to be around 13 years old to find this even remotely entertaining. I am not discrediting any quality of graphics, or sound here but to me this is just that - just graphics and sound with bad acting.

Firstly, it is not an assassin's creed game. I don't care that it isn't assassins vs templars but it should at least be a stealth game and this isn't. The game actually discourages stealth. In raids you need your crew to open doors and chests so you can't be stealthy and in the main missions you often siege a fortress rather than stealthily infiltrate it. Stealth is hard when you try to be stealthy because guards are always looking at each other and instantly become alerted as soon as they glimpse you. Stealth is useless. You can't even assassinate the zealots. In an assassins game you can't assassinate an enemy!

The game is too long. The length wouldn't be a problem if the game was full of fun and interesting content but it isn't. The main story has you going to each region of England to get an alliance. All regions are required to complete the story and only some of them are fun and interesting. After you've done a few they become boring and repetitive. First you go talk to someone, then you follow them slowly somewhere, where you get in a small fight. Talk to them again. Go more places to talk to more people or get in small fights. Talk some more. Fight a siege. Repeat for next region, unless it is a city. In a city you'll track down three order members and kill them. This game is very dialogue heavy. There is so much following people and talking. It's not interesting or fun, just a chore. It is clear the devs bit off more than they can chew and were forced to copy and paste content.

The side content is mostly useless and also not fun. Gear stats have little effect so once you've found a weapon type you like there is no reason to get more gear. You find ingots to upgrade your gear so finding them can be useful but there is more than enough ingots in the game. Annoyingly, these things are almost always behind a locked or barred door so it can turn into a chore to find them.
Artifacts and tattoo/hair designs are completely useless and also often a chore to get.
The mysteries can be interesting and I did a lot of them early game but the game started feeling long and drawn out so I just stopped doing them. You get more than enough skill points doing the main story anyway.

Parkour is clumsy. It can be a chore to get through a window.
Loading times are very long and the game loads a lot.

Overall, this game's problem is there is a huge map with a ton of content but so much of it is completely useless and repetitive this game feels like a chore to play. Took me 75 hours to beat.

The side quests are pointless, and most of the time you’re looking for loot it’s in a hidden underground door the developers try to hide from you to purposefully add game time to a story that feels like it was written by robots. If software could be made on a factory line, this would be a textbook example. This open world is huge, and lacking everything but some scattered boss fights whose challenge lies behind number walls you need to grind levels for so they don’t one shot you with incredibly basic combat powers. This game is a chore, and it even has your chores listed and broken down by area. The only thing more repetitive than the gameplay are the execution finishers, which will have you slay each of the five or six different enemies the same way throughout this snoozefest. Also, your Viking has no problem impaling people on spears but civilians are off limits. You can dual-wield, but your attack style only uses the main hand. The combat devolves into pressing the R2 button, and that’s it. It honestly doesn’t matter how you build your character because the absolutely whack progression system allows you to do everything eventually. AC has taken a bounding leap backwards with this installment. Ubisoft recently apologized for using “ableist” language in a specific character description and I really wish they’d just apologize for taking years out of their developers lives for producing this. To say that they make same game every time is biggest nonsense possible. That's something that could be said for Doom or literally every souls game (different location and same idea, you just kill one boss after another and that's about million times more braindead game design than Assassin's Creed could ever be). I'm not even sure what these haters want this series to be, because to me it feels like, they don't care about it anyway. This "SaMe GaMe" argument could be said about every fighting game, forza horizon series (okay actually every racing game ever), Tomb Raider series and so on. I could give countless examples.

Assassin's Creed is at least interesting in a way that you can roam around in these ancient locations and time periods, to me that's cool. If you don't care about history and just want some mindless sht, then don't play these games. It's that simple. Of course not everything in these games is 100% historically accurate and that's completely fine. It's historical-fiction. Just like Red Dead redemption 2 is not 100% Historically accurate. Rockstar even said that 100% accurate game would make for just boring and depressing experience and i absolutely agree with that. Overall, Valhalla is very solid Assassin's Creed game.

Just, too, long. Too much **** too much uninteresting plots. Combat is junky af, you dodge and its like your jumping 30 meters. Combat has no depth. Exploration is not rewarding which is sad with the size of the map. Everything you get and do is a disappointment. Im not a history professor but im sure that vikings werent stealthy.

Assassin's Creed games feel quite average after playing Ghost of Tsushima. Step it up Ubisoft. This game doesn't have any wow factor. Just your typical regurgitated Ubisoft game. These games need something different. Something new. This ain't it and at today's standards it just doesn't cut it.

    Fazit : 8/10

Build your own Viking Legend. Become Eivor, a Viking raider raised to be a fearless warrior, and lead your clan from icy desolation in Norway to a new home amid the lush farmlands of ninth-century England. Find your settlement and conquer this hostile land by any means to earn a place in Valhalla.

The system with contrast and brightness is idiotic, and makes parts of the game near unplayable.

I played this game for about 8 hours, and 6 of those hours were pretty similar. Valhalla is just like the last four or five AC games. Somehow, I found Valhalla to be worse.

The graphics are by far Valhalla’s best feature. The backdrop of English woodland and rivers makes for a very pleasant and vibrant environment. The problem I have with this is the same as Origins and Odyssey; it’s just too big. After a few hours things almost seem to ‘repeat’, as backgrounds look familiar no matter where you are on the map.

The story of Valhalla is as forgettable as previous entries, like a limp attempt at a JRPG. There’s a big battle at the start where you as a child witness people you love dying, leading to revenge quests. I don’t even think there’s a risk of spoiling the story here as it’s so familiar and cropped from every other game of this genre. I found the voice acting of female Eivor to be painfully cringey and forced also.

The gameplay of Valhalla is where they somehow made the game significantly worse than its predecessors. With Odyssey there was an enjoyable loop with satisfying combat. Valhalla has somehow lost this. Combat is monotonous. Areas are irritating to traverse, with rooms becoming so randomly dark.

The map of Valhalla is stupidly large and bloated with the same Ubisoft open-world crap that you need to explore and collect. It’s copied and pasted almost identically from previous entries. At first, it’s nice to explore but then I see familiar icons appearing on the map and large distances to unlock fast travel points and become very fatigued by the repetition.

If Valhalla was the only AC game on PS4, this would be a pretty decent game, but asking us to pay full price for the same old game with a new coat of paint is scandalous.

Valhalla also suffers massively from a lack of identity. The Viking theme isn’t as vivid and won’t live on in my memory as Origin and Odyssey did with their Egyptian and Greek themes. Games like Greedfall and Witcher have similar woodland environments, making Valhalla feel like it’s treading old ground.

Let’s also not forget the buggy nature of this game and the exploitative microtransactions.
Overall, this is a game to be avoided. Origins and Odyssey had refreshing elements, but Valhalla wears out its welcome very quickly, coming across as a game designed by businessmen sat around a table in suits rather than passionate developers keen to expand the limits of videogames. Avoid.

Valhalla continues in the manner of Origins and Odyssey. If you liked those two games, you will probably like this one too. It is a nice new thing but far from a settlement (or a camp) that you have in Red Dead Redemption II, for example. Upgrading houses andValhalla continues in the manner of Origins and Odyssey. It is a nice new thing but far from a settlement (or a camp) that you have in Red Dead Redemption II, for example. Upgrading houses and buildings in your settlement opens a few side quests but apart from that there is nothing much to do there.

Speaking of the story… nothing special here. You are a Viking, who is looking for allies in order to conquer England. The world is huge and you play partly in Norway and the largest part of the game you will be in England. In every region you have a couple of main quests before you get yourself an ally. It was all fairly interesting but after finishing a couple of regions I felt like I was in an endless tunnel with no light to announce the end (the moment I was finished with one region, another one would open… and then another one… and another one…).

After I finished the game, I wondered why the title was “Assassin's Creed” because the game (a story at least) had so little to do with an Assassin’s Creed. The main character is a Viking (he is not an Assassin), who only meets a few Assassins on the way but there is nothing more that connects this game or story with Assassin's Creed. Except the gameplay, of course.

When I started playing, I was surprised by the graphics, which are not bad but I have seen much better looking games from the previous year. Before I started Valhalla, I played The Last of Us Part II after which Valhalla looked almost like a previous generation game. The animation is mostly average; lip synching is bad for the most part and voice expressions that you hear usually do not match face expressions that you see on the screen.

One of the main issues: the game is way too long. It took me 149 hours to complete the game with all side quests and find all treasures and chests. This would have been a really cool and fun game if it would have been 40 or 50 hours long. But 149 hours… There must be a moment to stop and finish something but no… Ubisoft rather opens another region on the map and another set of the same missions. After 149 hours, everything that was good about this game turned out bad and boring at the end.

Within a huge world you will find plenty of nice landscapes but also an awful lot of copy-pasting, which is already a long tradition for Ubisoft. There are so many identical buildings, houses, churches, so many identical puzzles… It is all cool at the beginning but to complete the game you will have to do those cool things so often that at the end, you will not find them cool anymore.

Side quests (called “world events”) are generally short events that will take few minutes to solve and they are a bit more interesting compared to the previous games (if you ignore the fact that there are again far too many of them and some of them are quite retarded).

There are less armors and weapons in this game, which some people will hate but I found it better, less confusing and you definitely spend less time browsing the menu. The combat is not the best in the world but it unfortunately ages fast and gets boring because of the game’s huge length.

My playthrough was really, really buggy and bugs appeared far too often and interrupted the gameplay flow. One of the most frequent bugs was that after a longer horse ride your character and horse would freeze while entering a city or a village. There is probably no game without bugs but this game has too many of them..

Missing textures are also a big issue in this game. Textures of the roads or nearby houses would are often like in a PS1 video game. I personally think that this is unacceptable especially when developers wave all the time with phrases such as “next generation experience”. This was far from that.

It feels that half of the game are loading screens. Even when you only wanted to talk with some pedestrians on the street there was a black loading screen! Fast travel was senseless in most of the cases unless you wanted to skip a very big distance (sometimes it was faster to ride a horse than to use the fast travel option). I always used fast travel when I needed to go to the toilet.

All in all, I enjoyed the first 15 or 20 hours of the game but later I could not get rid of an “unfinished” feel that followed me through the whole game surely because Ubisoft continues a tradition of publishing new Assassin's Creed games far too often. It is not surprising that there are always so many issues because one year is obviously not enough for a huge open world game like this (if you want a great game at the end, I mean…). Ubisoft also continues a tradition of horrible writing, bad acting, copy-pasting as if the only goal is to make the longest game with a largest world possible with thousands of side quests in it.

There are far fewer cookie-cutter outposts than in previous AC’s, and most sidequests now offer an interesting story, sometimes even with a less-than-obvious solution. While some anti-grind measures have backfired, Ubisoft is on the right track. [Issue#250, page 56]

Assassins Creed Valhalla is a wonderful addition to the AC franchise. It manages to avoid the tropes that became overplayed and focuses on a small well structured story. The fighting mechanics are enjoyable and offer many choices to fit different playing styles. There are a significant amount of bugs and the AI is underwhelming at times. But it's still another step in the right direction for Ubisoft.
