It's a good game but not as good as Odyssey was. Would have liked to have seen more focus on combat rather than needless filler content. Still, I have enjoyed my time with. it looks gorgeous and traversing the map and synchronizing locations is better than ever.

Great entry to the Assassins Creed franchise. Reminds me of AC 2 in all the best ways. Music director from AC2 came back and killed it. Cant wait for a truly next gen assassins creed. Stop supporting old consoles!!!

Great game! Much improvement from AC Origins and Odyssey. I generally don't like mindless hacking and slashing but the fights in this game are enjoyable. Stealth assassins are superb and RPG elements are great. Side missions are great improvement from former AC games and can be challenging and witty.

After 115 hours, I can say that I have “beaten” AC: Valhalla on the PS4. Note the quotation marks, we’ll get into those later. The game acts as the third installment of the “new generation” of AC titles that began with Origins in 2017. Valhalla follows the story of the Viking Eivor and the Raven Clan as they journey from Norway to establish a settlement in England. The course of the game will have you as Eivor journey to the various shires to establish friendly relations, either by working for the current lord or actively opposing them. The musical score meets the lofty standards of Assassin’s Creed, though oftentimes I find myself forgetting the score is there. This gives no points for or against the game in my view. Like many of the AC titles, the graphical glitches and bugs abound. Roughly twice per play session I would find myself saving and loading a game to get around a bug that wouldn’t let me continue. While on par with AC titles, I will have to take a point away from it. Graphically, despite the bugs, the game retains the graphical beauty of the generation, oftentimes I found myself marveling at the landscapes, particularly of Norway and the first dreamscape world. You read that right. Players of Origins and Odyssey will know that on occasion the main character will delve into a dream-like state, entering a fantastical new world to solve a problem along their journey. Origins did this in it’s Curse of the Pharaohs DLC, and Odyssey in its Fate of Atlantis DLC. Valhalla sees Eivor enter two of the Nine Realms from Norse Mythology, both of which are expertly designed and beautifully written. With these realms, Valhalla has a total of five world maps to explore. In terms of gameplay, the game favors direct combat more often, but stealth can be rewarding and is doable. This makes sense, as Eivor is a Viking raider, with loose training in the ways of the Hidden Ones. Usually, I’ll find myself attempting stealth until I inevitably alert the guards and have to go full drengr on them. The equipment system is similar to that of Odyssey, but each item is unique and can be upgraded to mythical potential. This let me wear the outfit I wanted, without it being too under-leveled for what I was doing. A new mechanic of Raids has been added, impromptu events that you can trigger by sailing your crew up to monastery. As you and your crew slaughter the guards, you run around finding supplies and raw materials to bring back to your village to build. Conquest battles from Odyssey have returned vaguely as siege battles, in which you lead an army to break through an enemy’s defenses and slay their commanders. I found these events to be quite fun, with most of them being unique from the others and cinematic in their own lights. The collectables around the map take the form of wealth, generally weapons and armor and materials to upgrade them, artifacts, such as tattoo designs or literal Roman artifacts, and mysteries. The mysteries are small side-missions, generally contained to a small area around its blip on the map. These go the range from fun to boring, and none are ever too challenging, save for the ones that require you to fight, but those also tend to be the most rewarding. Animus glitches were brought back from the Ezio trilogy, giving you a very fun parkour challenge that gave you a glimpse of an Isu secret at the end. Collecting them all gave you a small cinematic, tying Norse Mythology to the world of AC. In fact, Valhalla does a wonderful job tying the Assassin’s Creed world together, and one is bound to find hints of every game era in this one. Flyting challenges have been added, basically Viking rap battles, in which Eivor must match the rhyme and rhythm of their opponent to succeed, granting a charisma increase. Higher charisma will lead to favorable dialogue options throughout the game. As a minigame, the developers have added a dice game called “Orlog,” which I found to be very fun in the early game and not worth my time in the late game. Drinking contests, cairn staking, and even brawls with other Vikings provide a player with a plethora of things to do. And after 115 hours, I believe I have done everything this game has to offer. Every blip on the map is cleared and I’ve finished every mission that didn’t involve the opal dealer. Sorry, Reda, not interested. And yet, I’ve yet to see credits roll, and I can’t figure out why. The game has had essentially three endings, the first being the most climactic of them, with the second and third decreasing in importance and feeling more like “after credit” scenes than anything else. I enjoyed them, the game just seemed to keep puttering on, for hours even after what I had first assumed would be the ending.
All in all, Valhalla stands as a fantastic entry to the franchise. It’s fun, it brings the world together, and writing-wise is the best written game in the series, and it falls where other AC titles fall.

Layla Hassan’s next chapter in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is grand, beguiling, and ferocious, but feels a bit slight out of hand where it doesn’t actually feel like an actual AC game we all know and love. It is indeed the darkest Assassin’s Creed entry you’ll ever play trust me on that one.

The gameplay is fine, a little refined in the new format of AC games. Nothing groundbreaking.

The main issue is the **** bugs. The bugs break immersion almost evey 10 minutes(minor issues like collision), extremely PATHETIC character animations etc. But I expected all this.
What I didn't expect were the various game-breaking issues that don't let you complete objectives. And many of them can't be solved be reloading the game. Raiding a fort? Collecting wealth will not register.
Doing a world event? Can't complete it because the game will prompt you to get out of combat, when you're already out.

The state that this game is in, I'm honestly so surprised that there's isn't more of a hue and cry about it. Would not recommend.

The only redeeming thing is the story, which I'm finding interesting (till now at least).

Edit: My original rating was 3. After completing the game on PS5 in around 85 hours, it has dropped to 2.
This is perhaps the most frustrating Game I have ever played. Certainly the most frustrating AC game. The issues I mentioned above are still there.
On top of that, this broken mess is too long. The story stopped feeling good after completing a couple more arcs.
I was about 45 hours in when I realised I hadn't even completed 50% of the main story yet. This game is like eating 2kgs of bread. It's bland, and boring, but it fills your stomach.

If you have nothing else to play, you can give this atrocity a try. If you hav literally anything else to do, stay away from this broken, buggy piece of sh*t.

They have stupid missions to do that you get no clue how to do them, your worthless bird doesn't help, you shouldn't have to freaking look up simply missions for help!
If these ppl would stop worrying about themselves being a blue kangaroo or elephant & having the equality bs, instead of making a game for the fans to enjoy. We don't give a crap about your preferences on things, but don't put that garbage in a game! Adding beastiality angers me, sadly, looking who's making it, not surprising. Just make it for ppl who (will/do) enjoy playing, we don't want to see all the mental issues being displayed.
From ac3,Adding those stupid pages to chase is retarded, you can blend in a group but doesn't auto follow, on odyssey, you couldn't do some things but it was great none the less! Why the hell you take away us making a lynx/bear/whoever buddy, no health regeneration, so many glitches in the game which is ridiculous too.
The ONLY good things about the game: the fight scenes (finishers ) are great, super cool. Raiding, is freaking awesome. You can get other players jomsviking(sp), that's pretty neat.
There are some awesome abilities(several garbage and some that should be automatic no a programing) .Tyr's kick is a fav, i like the axe throwing but waiting on the upgrade.
The bad weighs out the good, but the good... Thankfully is what saves it, barely... I wish i never spent the money on it and waited for it to be free.

Sound balance is bad because cannot hear a music even with music biased settings, buttons are bad because in same button it does jump forward, still, and jump backwards by random (L1) and it supposed to be most essential in battle. It is always bad when there is like 20 buttons in controller, but game has 40+ different actions. When you press attack, character attacks second later. Archers who walk backwards are more fast than character who runs to them and character really has to stop moving when striking. Icons disappear when comes too close so have to do backtrack often. There are numerous other things too. Combat system is just laughable idiotic. Series has very little to do with history any more and that is sad. Not as bad than Syndicate, but one of worst in series. Modern games generally should have more game testers. Expand

Not bad, but worse than previous parts. Nice environment as always, i would say perfect. I loved the water and the waves especially. The sun's beams are awesome. But that's all. The storyline is extremely weak. Boring. In every location you perform the same scenario... Can't say anymore to not reveal spoilers, but if you don't play this game you won't lose anything.

Does Ubi not have what it takes to write good stories anymore? Why borrow old and used up gimmicks that have been around for ages?

Just end this franchise and be done with it. It's like this franchise has turned into another Fast and Furious.

Assassin's Creed Valhalla is a 2020 action role-playing video game developed by Ubisoft Montreal and published by Ubisoft. It is the twelfth major installment in the Assassin's Creed series. Principally set in the years 872–878 AD, the game recounts a fictional story during the Viking expansions into the British Isles. Players control Eivor Varinsdottir, a Viking raider who becomes embroiled in the centuries-old conflict between the Assassin Brotherhood, who fight for peace and liberty, and the Templar Order, who desire peace through control. Story / atmosphere: 6/10
The story has some interesting moments but is being killed by the strech imposed by such a vast teritory which asks to be filled with something. In the end we have a bland overall story, which may end without the player observing that it reached the end of the jurney. On the other hand, the side quests are so emply and dull that insult the player's inteligence. Gameplay: 8/10
Dynamic and interesting gameplay which sometimes transposes the player into an action movie. The only elements that need inprovement were the feel of the actual impact of the weapon hits on the enemies, which sometimes feel like hitting paper dolls and the economy of the game which has no role / meaning after completing around 30% of the game. Graphics: 10/10
Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is a beautiful game, from the snowy environment of Norway to the lush green fields of England. The game pushes the limits of what can be possible in modern gaming, delivering absolutely stunning visuals, a gorgeous environment, an expertly-designed world, and detailed character modeling. Sound: 7/10:
The background music, the cinematic music, even the music at the menu integrates well with the overall vibe of the game but fails to give the player some much-needed immersion. Game functiinality & bugs: 5/10:
Error CE-34878-0 and blue screen was encountered many times, especially in raids and crowded areas (Tried all availiable solutions, but nothing solved it. Its frequency was diminished althow by lowering the resolution to 720p). Apart from that, a strange phenomenon took place when the character was sucked suddently, ending up in the clouds, falling afterwards on the ground and dying in the end. Value for money: 7/10
The game will give you your money's worth if bought at around 30 EUR / USD / GBP with its sheer number of activities and length, provided the story and gameplay feel rewarding enough in order to play the game until the end. Conclusion: 7/10
Playing Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is time ALMOST well spent. Could it be better? Absolutely. It lacks ambition, is afraid not to bother anyone with its story, is too repetitive and has a some technical bumps in the road. It is like eating a bland food. It was neither a great experience nor a bad one either...

The next thing I unfortunately hate about this game is the environment, the color pallet and scenery are not at all suited to what is supposed to be England. The landscape could have been done so much better than it has been, but it feels as if it was designed by artists that have never left the city let alone visited the English countryside.

Finally I hate the how the vikings are very diplomatic and PC in this game. Vikings would not release hostages and when you plunder if you kill NPC's that are not solders you get told off and told you will de-synchronize. Vikings would have literally killed everyone, especially the clergy.

I wanted to love this game, i really did, I brought a new graphics card just to play it. But i don't think i actually like it, it feels a bit of a let down, the franchise had the chance to do something completely different with this game but overall the game feels bland and just a bit disappointing.

Yes it's that bad, let's put aside the screen tearing, the audio bugs, the terrain bugs and the terrible map. Actually let's talk about the map, you're given 3 options at the beginning and really there isn't much of a need due to the same house design (the exact same houses, who knew vikings were into pre-fabs) and although your weapons can tear down the doors like papermache, a simple barricade can keep out an army.

Assassin creed games were once based on real life cities, or places and although certainly Norway etc does exist. none of what you see has any sort of historic bearing. Hell i'm wondering why they just don't call the games 'creed' and remove the unnecessary "hassassin" in there and the real world parts which make origins and odyssey blush.

The whole game just reminds you of how they could do better, how the game could be better... it's infuriating and frustrating. Like miles morales, this is not a next generation game. Ubisoft have become like the EA sports series.

This is one to avoid, one to not play... go dig out black flag but really, just avoid all creed games. This is terrible with a map designed by a high school drop out. We're used to gorgeous open world maps, filled with wonder... this is a clutterfest that degenerates itself so bad that i wonder why they included the village names at all....

Avoid this game like the plauge, stick with Odyssey where they don't try to force microtransactions on you at every turn and you can get a tonne of awesome gear just by looting treasure chests and doing quests . You can't even change your look without paying in Valhalla, what a joke

With all the microtransactions this should be a free to play game. I knew far cry new dawn was a sign of more microtransactions being forced (if you want to enjoy the game) instead of optional

Ubisoft game now just seem to create problems that can be solved only using microtransactions so they can go to hell. Far Cry, Assassin's Creed and Watchdogs were my favourite game series and I am not interested in buying or playing any of their new games now. Now the ubisoft customer is just a whale to them or they don't want you as a customer if all you give them is $99 for the base game. $99 is not enough for Ubisoft, they want more and more

And the "puzzles".... the god damn "puzzles" to get treasures....boring and repetitive as hell...most of the time I would stop playing the game, its because i´m so damn bored finding the next entrance to a cabin for the 1000 time, which by the way makes no sense at all...why would somebody barred a cabin from the inside without anyway to get in...who closed it? how did they get out? it just breaks the mood and the feeling of any half way "realistic setting".... I actually just stop playing the game right now, because I was so damn bored trying to get into a cabin yet again and I had to write this comment....
And last but not least....the story... it is so damn boring, half of the time I don´t know why the heck I´m doing whatever, because I dont care about whats happening...there is no reason for me to get invested or to care about anything...
And if you read this until the end, first of all, thx ;-) and just so I don´t come across as somebody who just wants to review bomb this game, here my List of favorites (semi) open world games, that in my opinion did a far better job then ibusoft:
    - Ghost of Tushima
    - Witcher 3
    - Red death Redemption
    - Fallout 4
    - Sekiro

Odyssey was good and you can learn about history about greek and Sparta. But Valhalla about Viking?
I have no idea why they choose Viking and there is nothing to learn. Extremely boring is Bonus~~~~

I couldn't progress in the main story it is bugged. Literally one of the first main story quests is bugged so that you can't progress any further.

    As for the gameplay:
They removed quality of life things like filtering of photos on the world map. I don't want my world map to be cluttered with pictures I haven't looked at.
The second thing that they negatively changed is the duration of the enemy highlighting after using eagle sense. Previously the enemies were highlighted until you left the area, but now you have to use eagle sense every 30 seconds and they made it a skill to "highlight all nearby enemies when you are crouched and undetected". I guess they ran out of skills and just said: "Let's take away a skill they had forever and give it back, but this time make it so that they have to spend skill points"
You don't the full skill tree, but only parts that you are adjacent to, so you can't plan your character development ahead , which is for me one the stupidest things they could have done in an action RPG game.

The free climbing mechanics are still wonky as they ever have been.
The sounds seems to be off sometimes. I played the female, but it felt like the soundfiles for the male character were played instead of the female.

The game looks beautiful though, that's why it's not a zero score

The zero rating is to counter the exaggerated/fake 10s. A mediocre overall game, repetitive, bad acting, uninteresting story+characters, decent world to explore. I give it 5/10

A game unsure of itself. Ubisoft comes with the next AC title following the rpg approach introduced by Origins and continues the gradual decline of these games. Once again the world design is great, the world is large and looks fantastic. But this is almost everything positive i can say about this game. The story is almost non existent. It is written in "episodic" parts, which in reality feels like you are constantly thrown into these huge worlds without really knowing what your motivation is. The main character is always what the current story needs him to be, sometimes a little angry, sometimes a little smart, but never consistent nor interesting. He or she( which is a whole problem in itself, that ubisoft keeps making the main characters sex interchangable, because it takes away any identity of said charcater) walks by everything happening in the world without any individual opinion. AC needs a strong and interesting main character not just a blank projection surface. The worst part of this game is, that it not only coninues the franchises loss of identiy it increased it even more. In the past two games they kept the "supernatural" mythology stuff in the DLCs, so you could say " Ok now im in the bonus content and it gets a little crazy". In this game this is embedded heavily into the main game and it takes AC from a historical drama with hooded assassins set in the big events of our past, into a fantasy rpg inspired by mythology with hooded vikings. All the stealth and "assassinesque" parts of the game feel forced and more alibi than anything else. The franchise keeps losing its identity and the devs know this but instead of going back to this identiy they just put in alibi oldschool mechanics like one-hit assasinations and a badly implemented social stealth system to silence the fans that want assassins creed to be assassins creed. The fighting system feels like a step back, it is close to the one in odyssey and origins but feels less controllable and very delayed. Animations and cutscenes are nowhere near the level they were in origins( odyssey was already a step back imo). Generally a lot of things in the game feel like they still need polishing and are more in a beta state than already released. Ultimatly this is a product made by thousands of people for millions of dollars over the course of years. This is by no means a "trash" game its obviously a AAA-product and you can undoubtedly have fun exploring the beautifull world as a viking, building your city with your own crew, but as an AC fan from the first hour it hurts to see where the franchise went and what they are doing with these games. With a story the writers actually cared about, with a main character with an actual character and with a little more respect and love for what assassins creed really is, this game could have been so much more than just a large, beautifull world. I hope they find people that actually love the AC games to make the decisions for the future games, so this franchise can have a soul again. Expand

Assassins Creed Valhalla starts off with an opening 10-12 hours in Norway that basically runs you through the gameplay and lets you experience some of what you will be doing throughout your entire time with the game, before heading to England. I will say that while in Norway I was impressed, I immediately found that changes fans asked for from the last AC creed game were made for Valhalla. So I should be yelling from the mountains how awesome this game is right?

WRONG!! Unfortunately, Valhalla, even with it's improvements and new additions to gameplay somehow still comes up short. The more you play Valhalla, the more tedious it gets and honestly, boring is a great word to describe the experience. The only thing I really enjoyed was the story, and even the story could get dull and dragged out at times. In the end, after everything, I could not help but feel a sense of pointlessness to this game.

I played on a PS4PRO and the graphics were fine, but sometimes it looked like a PS3 game with the framerate struggling. Combat felt okay at best, thank goodness for brutal decapitations and finishers. Immersion just never found me with all of the boring and tedious exploration, defeating elite enemies and beast that reward you with nothing. Oh, a new tattoo? Gee, thanks! I'll just go and put that new cool tat on my back while I wear a full suit of cool Viking gear!

Ubisoft cannot seem to decide what kind of game they want their Assassins Creed series to be anymore and the fans are suffering for it.

This game suffers from a very serious delay in inputs and timing in combat. I booted up odyssey just to compare, and for sure combat is absolute **** in this game. The story is awesome so far, but the terrible combat is killing the game for me. Put a pin in it and buy it later on sale

I would love to say: "It´s a good game and I can`t stop plpaying!", but since I can`t even start the mainquest, because of a bug, which doesn`t alloughs to speak to NPC`s and after a restart my savegames are corrupted, I would say it`s pretty bad progmmed. They should have waited a few more weeks.

Controls are buggy, he jumps off cliff for no reason nor does your character go where you want him to. Story line is amazing, if they would put as much time into basic game controls as they did the story line game would easily be a 4

Ubisoft has given itself and all the gamers out there a major shot in the foot with this one. They have unsuccessfully tried to bring to the AC world things that worked brilliantly in other titles (such as the fishing and hunting missions, so good at RDR2, but so terrible here). The open world is probably one of the worst I have seen in any AC game before, the new combat mode is too bad to put into words, and the story is dull and unoriginal to say the least. But to top it all off, it's possibly one of the worst games I have ever played when it comes to bugs. It is so very bad, that at this point I am not even able to go through with the story because there was a major issue with the latest patch released for the game, where you are unable to advance in the story from the moment you start the mission "A Seer's Solace". Starting this mission will mean that your game will stop working, as the so-very-terrible-to-begin-with open world becomes even worst (it turns into raw unfinished shapes), and the character simply starts falling from the map, not giving out any possibility to keep playing. For the lucky ones who purchased a physical version, I heard it is possible to reinstall, and not updating to the latest patch seems to be a poor man's workaround for the issue, but for the unlucky ones like me who have purchased the digital version, there is no way at all to keep playing. I never thought in my wildest dreams that Ubisoft would be able to screw up this bad. I used to be a fan of the AC franchise, but this game seems to have managed to completely ruin it for me. I don't think I'll ever buy another AC game, and I am avidly expecting that Sony reimburses me for this absolutely terrible purchase, as I don't believe there are enough patches in the world that will be able to salvage it.

The game would be fun, but it is nearly April 2021 (after the game was released in Nov 2020) and it is inevitable you will run into several game-breaking bugs involving dialogue not working or dead characters. Ubisoft's bug-fixing process is slow, unresponsive and ultimately unhelpful. At least AC Origins had a 'reload quest objective' commmand.

As separate. The game is good with interesting characters. But as part of the Assassin's Creed series, it's another nail in the series' coffin, turning the good old Assassin's Creed into an RPG game…with a lot of donations. No kidding, donat at least one place chew! And the donat does not affect in any way, and the prices are at the same level as the EA donation!

There are far fewer cookie-cutter outposts than in previous AC’s, and most sidequests now offer an interesting story, sometimes even with a less-than-obvious solution. While some anti-grind measures have backfired, Ubisoft is on the right track. [Issue#250, page 56]

Assassins Creed Valhalla is a wonderful addition to the AC franchise. It manages to avoid the tropes that became overplayed and focuses on a small well structured story. The fighting mechanics are enjoyable and offer many choices to fit different playing styles. There are a significant amount of bugs and the AI is underwhelming at times. But it's still another step in the right direction for Ubisoft.
