Oh Ubisoft what are you doing. Bad watchdogs 3 are followed by bad AC. Even if it looks good, it is still sick inside. The game wants to please everyone and thus destroys itself. The story of the game is barely noticeable and is told in a boring way.
What remains is a tough game that is boring after 3 hours. The world events are so pointless and remind you of the old Far Cry collecting frenzy.

    Platform: PS4
    Edition: Ultimate Edition

The positive about this game is that it looks really stunning. The world is amazing, the northern light in the sky, the snow that looks so real, and the sunbeams that fall upon the earth. It is really a marble for the eye. Before you start you will have a short but simple tutorial that shows you the basic commands. And after that you are free to start your journey.

The reason why I still have mixed feeling about trying to continue this game is because the game does not feel it is finished. There are plenty of bugs to be found. In my game I for example met my brothers wife Randvi, the second time I met her she was invisible. (There was a floating speach bubble though.) I could talk to her but she still remained invisile.
Also traveling around on horse I find that the game lags a lot, the screen seems to freeze every 30 seconds to render the world. The same world that looks gorgeous, but it also feels empty somehow as it is mostly just snow/mountains.

The fighting system is okey, however there is a stamina bar on your ability to dodge and fight. If you miss a hit or dodge your stamina will drain fast. As for the viewpoints, you climb up on it only to realize you first need to learn the 'Leap of Faith' skill in order to be able to jump off and not fall to your possible death.

My conclusion is that this game feels more like a Skyrim RPG, rather then an Assassins Creed game. The game is sure pretty, but it also has many bugs, and it feels it is made more for the PS5 then the PS4. Some bugs you could overcome but there are even story quests that bug out by being unable to activate or start.

I realise not everyone will have a bugged game, so other players may have other experiences, but in my case the game has some serious issues. It even prevents me from continueing the story line because a quest character does not spawn./cannot interact with him.

I've been playing AC for a while and this game just doesn't do it for me. Over the past few games, there has been a big move away from stealth and assassinations and pretty much just making a brawler set in the AC universe. For Origins and Odyssey, I at least felt like the setting and story and decent ranged options made them good games, but Valhalla just isn't doing it.

Combat: Combat mechanics are not that bad. But AI is dumb. Archers are just waiting for you to get close and kill them. Arrows come incredibly slow at you.Infantry throwing their shield for you to slaughter them. Combat difficulty setting does nothing to ai, just increases recieved damage. Finisher animations are good, but not as good as "The Cursed Crusade"

Norse Gods, magic and monsters, riding wolves. This game is not Assassins Creed and since odyssey AC has really lost it’s identity. Bring back the old AC, get rid of the heavy rpg elements, revamp the combat, build a better parkour system, and give us Assassins vs Templar’s. The fact that Ghost of Tsushima felt more like an AC game than Valhalla, really says a lot about what Ubisoft is ignoring and what made this franchise great to begin with. Expand

In defiance of each country's review criteria, Ubisoft unified the Asian version into the Japanese version as if the Asian country were only in Japan.

I don't feel the impact of fighting because of censorship.

If Ubisoft really cares about its Asian users, it has a duty to revise the censored version.

Censorship reduces the fun of the game and Ubisoft didn't say anything about it until just before it was released.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The old saying "Quality over quantity" sums up the problems of this game. For a game with so much "content" it is incredibly boring almost from start to finish. Having said that I couldn't actually bring myself to finish after I'd already sunk around 70 hours into that damn thing, I wasn't even near finished with it. It is a game that keeps you thinking "any minute now it's going to get better and that switch is going to go off where I'm having fun and locked in" but that moment never comes.

Most if not nearly all of the optional content on the map is absolutely not worth finding and players will learn this very quickly. There are a handful out of the 100s of markers that are interesting but it really does feel like filler to pad out the experience. The story is incredibly boring, dreary, and drawn out beyond comprehension. Once you've taken one region you've taken them all and by the 4th or 5th you're just done with it. You don't care about any of the characters like you might have done in Odyssey say with Kassandra, and as such there is little to no personal investment in any of it.

If you like running around dreary English fields for 70 - 100 hours doing nothing that matters then try it out. I was warned not to but I took a chance and I feel like I wasted 70 hours.

There are plenty of bugs throughout the game, some which stop you from completing missions, others that make you go wtf? But when I think about how big the game is they couldve scaled that back by 20% and spent the time rectifying a lot of the problems.

The graphics are great (PS4 version played on PS5), soundtrack get's a bit repetitive when doing raids, playability is good too. Combat system took a little time to get used to but soon found weapons and tactics I was happy with.

The main problem I have with this game/Ubisoft is although they have spent a lot of time producing this, it still feels like a re-skin of the previous games and the bugs from them still exist. I always feel that they will never reach the heights of Rockstar because they are too concerned with hitting deadlines/profits then making a game a work of art.

A small breath of fresh air for AC purists (like myself) and not too different from the newer games.

Pros: - Combat system feels smoother than the past two games. This is self explanatory. Combat just feels better. - Stealth makes a comeback. Odyssey and Origins really put stealth on the back burner for their games, but if you want to make your playstyle revolve around it you can.
A small breath of fresh air for AC purists (like myself) and not too different from the newer games.

    Pros:
    - Combat system feels smoother than the past two games. This is self explanatory. Combat just feels better.

    - Stealth makes a comeback. Odyssey and Origins really put stealth on the back burner for their games, but if you want to make your playstyle revolve around it you can.

    - Cast and character development. The characters in this game are noticeably more alive than Odyssey or even Origins, and for those that paid attention to the cast lineup during development, they pulled some characters from Netflix's "The Last Kingdom" which was set in the same setting as the game (down to the years). For those that have watched that series, the relationship between Eivor and Sigurd is identical to Uhtred and Young Ragnar, they might as well be the same characters save for ethnicity.

    - Plot. The plot has been pretty solid so far, and you get a pretty good idea of what's going on by the end of the prologue. That said, it's definitely not done at the end of the prologue, and twists and turns come up frequently.

    Cons:
    - Power system. As an AC purist, the power systems introduced since Origins have been my greatest problem with the series. Levelgating is self destructive to a game that boasts a beautiful open world with countless things to explore (and there is countless things to explore in this game). The developers made it seem like it would be set to the side for this game, but it wasn't. The power system still restricts where you can go and what you can do severely. More on this later.

    - Controls and UI are awkward. There is no option to make sprint not toggle, there's no way to quickly put your hood up or down (meaning you always have to go into a wheel menu to do so, which pauses the entire game). Waypoints don't always appear until you specifically mark them, even when the quest is being tracked (really?).

    - Difficulty and AI. Early into the game you learn of the Order of the Ancients zealots, these are the targets you randomly encounter in the world that you kill to progress with the Hidden Ones. However, there doesn't appear to be any restrictions on where these Zealots can and can't spawn, with some spawning in mission areas where they absurdly outlevel the player. I personally ran into a power 50-70 zealot when I was only power 35-40. I spent an hour learning every single one of his moves before just getting lucky enough to not get one shot by him (and yes, that's something they can do, there is no one shot protection). Once I couldn't even confirm the kill in time because the quest progressed when I killed the last enemy, and my hour of effort to kill this man was completely undone (again, levelgating alone is the problem here).

    - Settlement. The settlement is a big part of valhalla, apparently big enough to the developers to justify stopping the entire game until you build it up. The problem here is you need to raid to get supplies and raw materials, and you can't raid the same area twice. So if you spent the early game raiding the low-mid level areas for supplies and reach a quest that tells you to build a specific building for 3x the cost of most others, you're going to get levelgated again by the high power raid locations. You get punished for wanting to progress the settlement faster than the story does.

Resources. There is no way to passively regain health in Valhalla. If you are at one shot HP, you'll stay there until you can find a berry busy (surprisingly difficult to find when you need them) or buy a ration from a vendor who only carries 3, and you can only carry 1 at any given time. This isn't even getting started on materials needed for upgrading your gear. Since playing, I haven't found a single Nickle Ingot, or a mid tier upgrade material, of which you need 3 to upgrade gear twice. And when you're trying to do the OTHER upgrade method (there really is no other way to put it, they have 2 upgrade "methods" that do different things from different materials, it's very awkward), the materials necessary for them are so hard to gather you'll find yourself just buying them from stores for absurd prices just to upgrade once. You can spend all of your money to clear the stores stocks and you'll get 2 more damage/armor on one piece of gear, while there are 8 gear slots which can all get upgraded 10 times (yes, it's genuinely impossible to get all of them upgraded unless you're going nuts with your fishing).

Can't see the difference between any of Ubisofts open world titles anymore - the concept is the same over and over again. A great AC game. Combat is a bit clunky, but it still feels great, could have been better though. Love the story and music. Lack of naval combat is a bit letdown, and the crew is kinda useless outside raids. Stealth gameplay is almost useless and non-existent. In conclusion, a great game with a rough release with same old Ubisoft buggy notoriety.

If this game did not have the Viking aesthetic, it would be an absolute flop. The voice actor for Eivor is amazing, love him. Overall, the game feels like they wanted to do something great, but it lacks heart. The graphics are bad, and the character models move weird.
It feels like just another “open world AC game” with a different skin. (don’t just be large for the sake of being large) They have completely lost track of what Assassin’s Creed was, and moved on to something new, that could be cooler, but fails miserably. The Green Elephant (Russian: Зелёный слоник, romanized: Zelyonyy slonik, also known as Green Elephant Calf) is a 1999 Russian psychedelic exploitation horror film directed by Svetlana Baskova. The movie received a limited theatrical release in Russia, as the film's violent imagery and graphic language made it unable to be distributed through the mainstream film circuit. The film was shown at the 2005 International Film Festival Rotterdam and the program commented that the movie was "even more urgent because of the escalation of the war in Chechnya and growing criminality in the Russian army".

The film stars Sergey Pakhomov and Vladimir Epifantsev, and follows two Russian officers locked in a military prison cell that must deal with "social and psychological problems" in their isolation through brutality and torture.

Two men (both being junior officers in Soviet Army, in 1986), nicknamed "Bratishka" (Brother) and "Poekhavshiy" (Nutcase), are being held in a penal military prison. The room which they share looks like a dark cellar with a dripping sewer pipe running through it. One of the prisoners, Nutcase, seems to be delirious and never stops talking. He tells stories of his past, sings the song of the "Green Elephant" circus, does push-ups, comes up with crazy ideas and even mimics a heron in an attempt to cheer up his cellmate Brother, leading only to an increase in his anger. He receives a violent beating from the enraged Brother, before he is then taken from the cell by a guard to clean up a dirty toilet bowl with a fork.

HorrorNews.net wrote an overall favorable review for the film, stating "By the end, we find ourselves asking a lot of questions; of ourselves, of the director, of our television screens. What did we just watch? Why did these people do what we just them do? What does it all mean? I can't answer those questions, but I can tell you that it is an experience that I am happy to have gone through, and I'd definitely be interested in checking out more of Svetlana Baskova's movies. Xxtremely bad performance, massive fps drops. The game is also extremely boring, melee combat is garbage.

Couldn't pass the "A seer's solace" mission 'cause of a bug so I restarted the game (I' ve lost 5hrs of the first save).
Now I am 10hrs in and the game doesn't save anymore! It's all corrupted data saves. Horrible.

Everything in this game is boring, generic, unambitious, buggy garbage. Just painfully average in every way. It's a giant pile of meh. Combat? Meh. Exploration? Meh. Story? Meh. Voice acting? Meh. Combat? Meh. Missions? Meh. Graphics? Meh. Sound? Meh. Music? Meh. In short, it sucks. This game sucks. At no point during my playthrough was I playing because the game made me want to play it.Everything in this game is boring, generic, unambitious, buggy garbage. Just painfully average in every way. At no point during my playthrough was I playing because the game made me want to play it. The ONLY reason I kept playing was the game was already in my house and I'd have to take two hours out of my day to return it, and now that I've finished the story I wish I had taken those two hours to return this pos. It would have meant that I didn't just waste sixty hours of my life dragging myself through this mess of a game. Add to the overall middling quality of this suck fest the fact that it's riddled with bugs and it's a single player game with micro-transactions and this is an absolute zero out of ten. Screw this game. Screw Ubisoft. Expand

As the launch title for a next-gen console, this game is everything but what's expected for a launch title. In my experience playing I encountered bugs, the assets just didn't look good in my opinion, the combat was uninspiring, the modeling for the characters feels wooden, and overall I wasn't impressed by the game. I quickly requested a refund.

There are far fewer cookie-cutter outposts than in previous AC’s, and most sidequests now offer an interesting story, sometimes even with a less-than-obvious solution. While some anti-grind measures have backfired, Ubisoft is on the right track. [Issue#250, page 56]

Assassins Creed Valhalla is a wonderful addition to the AC franchise. It manages to avoid the tropes that became overplayed and focuses on a small well structured story. The fighting mechanics are enjoyable and offer many choices to fit different playing styles. There are a significant amount of bugs and the AI is underwhelming at times. But it's still another step in the right direction for Ubisoft.

When Valhalla is at its best, it evolves series mechanics. And when you’re cruising down river, about to blow your raiding horn, there’s nothing quite like it. [Issue#183, p.71]
