now onto the bad things, whilst i enjoyed the story it feels a little disjointed like one minute your hunting for sigurd and hes supposdly your only goal, the next youve completly forgot about him and helping the next side charcter, then we have side missions just this new choice to make them just a in and out was a bad one rather then make trully gripping side missions they instead choose to make them simply in and out i can only rember 1 single side mission and that was helping 2 idiots who wanted to be vikings, maybe if they were a little bit more intresting this would be fine but as it stands its realy boring

so gonna go 7/10 above average but plenty of gripes

Progress was one of the things that kept me with this series, Black Flag had huge world to explore in 2013, Paris looked absolutely stunning in 2014, Syndicate wasn't perfect, but London was still really nice location, Origins was even bigger game and obvious next step, while Valhalla perfected flaws of Origins and Odyssey. I really hope these leaks are not true, but if they are, i refuse to buy or support this next game. If they really go back to AC1-AC3 style then i'm done with this series and as of right now that seems to be the case. I'm almost certain that these awful leaks are true and they really do that. It' sad, but nothing lasts forever i guess. All i have to say that, thank you Ubisoft for these amazing games and this series once meant to me A LOT. Expand

Valhalla is here to stay! It's easily better than Odyssey and even Origins. I still like Black Flag more, but Black Flag is top tier game and i was never expecting Valhalla to be better than that. I hope i'm wrong tho, but that's exactly what those people on youtube want. They are minority, but they are constantly annoying Ubisoft that "new games bad, old games good" and i'm afraid Ubisoft might actually listen them. Of course i hope i'm wrong, but if not, i refuse to support or play next AC game. Basically if next game will be like ac 1 or revelations, to me this series is dead. If it's like black flag or even Unity, i would be fine with it, because Unity already had tons of customization options and rpg elements, it also had better parkour than any of the older games. Only reason i even started caring about AC series was AC 4. Making AC 4 is literally best decision Ubisoft has ever done. I'm so, so, so glad that this Desmond **** went finally away. Reason most people play these games i going back in time, not some modern day nonsense. I wish these games never had modern day, but it is what it is, thankfully AC games got so much better starting with AC 4. AC 3 was just horrible. Solid AC, personally i enjoyed it way more than last two entries. Specially from story and map design standpoint. It's just interesting to explore England and Norway. There's absolutely no question that i'm bigger AC fan that he could ever dream to be. Calling Valhalla garbage is biggest joke in years. Valhalla is easily better than both Origins and specially Odyssey. Valhalla is first AC game in long time where it has been really interesting to finally explore the open world. You mentioned how interesting pyramids were in Origins, well of course. But here the thing, they were one of the few interesting things about Origins. Most of it was boring empty desert. I don't hate Origins, but it wasn't as interesting as Valhalla. Valhalla has way better story, better character and better open world. You said that England doesn't have landmarks or places to explore. Kidding me? London? Stonehenge? Huge castles? Mountains in Norway? There's so much to explore. Valhalla is easily one of the better designed maps Ubisoft has ever done, just behind Black Flag. There you go. You said that you laugh at people who think Origins is meh, well i laugh at you saying that Valhalla is garbage. There's clearly, very clearly more people who like Valhalla than Origins. Valhalla was biggest PC launch for Ubisoft EVER. It had over 2 million players in launch month alone. Jor Raptor gets 100 000s views on almost every Valhalla video he makes. People very clearly like this game and many have said that they absolutely love Valhalla map designs. Showing your "poll" as some evidence is BS, because most people answered that they haven't even played this game, but you said that people agree with you. Hell no. Thankfully you don't get that many views, so i don't really care that much, but this one video made me write this, because it was just too much nonsense. If you can have your BS opinion, then i have every right to have my opinion about your video and point out false things. I have been Assassin's Creed supporter and fan over 10 years and i very likely like games that you don't even like, because you seem like somebody who hops on hype trains. You know very well that people who whine about new games are just nostalgia nerds who hate every game after AC 3. I have always liked Unity and even Syndicate and i strongly doubt you like them. Some finisher cutscenes are excessively long and not cool and I have seen them all about 2500 times each. By the end of the game I started avoiding combat because it sucked so bad. Raids are one of the worst parts of the game as you need to wait for a friendly npc to open any door and then wait for another friendly npc to open the chests and sometimes they do not show up for a while.

Looking forward to the DLCs when they come out, new raid integration was also fun but I rather have had the oceanic battles from Oddysey. Alliance forging was fun but extremely repetitive but overall, very fun game. Would recommend to anyone reading this review. Lates! Expand

Interesting health recovery gameplay having to always find rations and not automatic recovery like previous games. Having to build the settlement and unlocking benefits from it like health, changing a companion, design of tattoos or the ship, and missions. I get skyrim like vibes with that gameplay. With the animus data glitch puzzles we see more of Layla, and I'm not complaining. I look forward to continuing the game, not that far into it yet. I believe this installment has what it takes to compete with Origins for the best overall Assassin's Creed game. Expand

The skill tree is weird, you don't see skills ahead of the tree you are going into, most of the skills are shared grey , so you might follow a path and then you see a skill you don't want , just wasted all that time . But you can respec for free so that's good.i guess re specking is for free cuz they knew ppl wouldn't like the system. Combat is worse then Odyssey, the fights get so repetitive after mission 14, even on berserker it's so easy. Skills are bland and nothing special. And if this is Vikings, boat battles were a big part of their history, and there are no boat battles, weird in that. Overall, I put the game up for sale after 13 hours of playing, I'm working on Ghost of Tusushima and that is AMAZING! 10/10.

My 3 rating is from visuals alone, as anything else in this game is ridiculously rewashed and repeated to the point of boredom. My character uses the same two axes I found before leaving the starting zone, and I’m over 40 hours into this game. The side quests are pointless, and most of the time you’re looking for loot it’s in a hidden underground door the developers try to hide from you to purposefully add game time to a story that feels like it was written by robots. If software could be made on a factory line, this would be a textbook example. This open world is huge, and lacking everything but some scattered boss fights whose challenge lies behind number walls you need to grind levels for so they don’t one shot you with incredibly basic combat powers. This game is a chore, and it even has your chores listed and broken down by area. The only thing more repetitive than the gameplay are the execution finishers, which will have you slay each of the five or six different enemies the same way throughout this snoozefest. Also, your Viking has no problem impaling people on spears but civilians are off limits. You can dual-wield, but your attack style only uses the main hand. The combat devolves into pressing the R2 button, and that’s it. It honestly doesn’t matter how you build your character because the absolutely whack progression system allows you to do everything eventually. AC has taken a bounding leap backwards with this installment. Ubisoft recently apologized for using “ableist” language in a specific character description and I really wish they’d just apologize for taking years out of their developers lives for producing this. Like how they got rid of naval combat, a couple of my fav characters dying which was really upsetting, and viewpoints not having a place to jump down to at the bottom. Assassins Creed is my favrotie series of all time, so im harder on this series than I am with any other game.. and while Valhalla is a great game and my score will reflect that, as an assassins creed game, assassins creed Valhalla isa complete disappointment.
Here you play as avore, becauseubisoft cares more about its precious sales you chose either man version or female version because ubisoft is afraid to commit and want to make everyone happy.. you set off on a Viking adventure to basically take over England during the dark ages.. and sadly this is more of a Viking game with assassins creed mechanics rather than an assassins creed game where you play as a Viking, the lore of the Templars and the assassins is there.. infct the whole uncovering the order side thing odyssey had going on is valhallas main focus, and I love that… however the game built around it is the most hallow money grab of a game in probably the entire assassins creed series… they sold you on Vikings, rob and pillage, this is fun about 0 times, its never fun going into an area for a raid, opening chests and collecting all of the loot, its repetive and bland, and that can be said for the entire game… im one to uncover every inch of an assassins creed game, read very document, platinum it.. but assassins creed Valhalla is so hollow that I found myself skipping through a lot of its dialog as the story is broken up into individual kingdoms you go out and help… this is less of an assassins creed game, you know.. a game where you relive memories of someone that was supposed to have actually existed to learn more about the orer and the places of the pieces of edden, and just a boring Viking game where you go from kingdom to kingdom taking care of that kingdoms individual problems, it’s a 70 hour long game of individual mini stories that by themselves could be okay experiences, but in an assassins creed game they feel like a waste of time not adding anything to the overall world of assassins creed, no one will remember Valhalla as a step forward for the series, infact in a lot fof places Valhalla steps back, for example its loot, there is next to none, yet you still collect it from time to time, its such an awkward system that you forget there are other weapons and armorus you can pick up.. youll mpost likely stick to the first or second piece of gear you find in the game and stick to that all the way through, especially thanks to the grind heavy upgrading system here that require a ridiculous amount of recourses to upgrade weapons… where Valhalla steps forward though is you making choices that actually matter, your choices have consequences, you have different paths with different characters you can go down that don’t feel empty like odyssey did.. but back to the intial point, this is great if assassins creed were an rpg seres set in different time periods… but its not, its meant to be an experience of a story already told, not an unwritten story of your grandpa and you get to chose if he banged other Vikings or not… tell me if avor was gay or not, don’t let me chose, again.. commit to a character, tell me their story… this is not a solution to the story telling critques players have.. this is assassins creed, not dragon age.. tell me the story as it happened… but this is thebiggest assins creed game to date, though bigger isn’t always better, another first, this s the first time I gave up on collecting all the things in an assassins creed game, for one,, again the world felt boring pointless and hallow, even the side quests that were supposed to be the talk of the town, except for the mini game orlog, it had its hooks in me like gwent, and I love hunting down the zealots of the land, bringing my back to the original assassins creed.. but the colelctables here, the game just makes you work too hard to get, one too many are locked behind story progress – why even put it on the map then… and evry other one ios locked behing an environment puzzle.. I don’t mind this eveyr once in a while , but map cleaning in assassins creed is a form of meditation, if I have to figure out how to get to literally every chest in the world, it isn’t meditation anymore, it’s a puzzle game outside of the story, no thanks. Also traversal here is probably the worst in the series too, its wakward, plenty pof annoying deaths at the hands of climbing, The biggest disappointment overall is this games story, the worst ending in history if you can even call it an ending and the outside of the animus world features the least likably protagonist of all time, smoking doesn’t make you look like a badass, it makes you look inconsiderate of the people around you, but again, assassins creed Valhalla is a great game, the combat is fun, you can go down different paths to play the way you prefer, brute, ranged, stealth, or a mix of all 3…

After 115 hours, I can say that I have “beaten” AC: Valhalla on the PS4. Note the quotation marks, we’ll get into those later. The course of the gameAfter 115 hours, I can say that I have “beaten” AC: Valhalla on the PS4. Note the quotation marks, we’ll get into those later. The game acts as the third installment of the “new generation” of AC titles that began with Origins in 2017. Valhalla follows the story of the Viking Eivor and the Raven Clan as they journey from Norway to establish a settlement in England. The course of the game will have you as Eivor journey to the various shires to establish friendly relations, either by working for the current lord or actively opposing them. The musical score meets the lofty standards of Assassin’s Creed, though oftentimes I find myself forgetting the score is there. This gives no points for or against the game in my view. Like many of the AC titles, the graphical glitches and bugs abound. Roughly twice per play session I would find myself saving and loading a game to get around a bug that wouldn’t let me continue. While on par with AC titles, I will have to take a point away from it. Graphically, despite the bugs, the game retains the graphical beauty of the generation, oftentimes I found myself marveling at the landscapes, particularly of Norway and the first dreamscape world. You read that right. Players of Origins and Odyssey will know that on occasion the main character will delve into a dream-like state, entering a fantastical new world to solve a problem along their journey. Origins did this in it’s Curse of the Pharaohs DLC, and Odyssey in its Fate of Atlantis DLC. Valhalla sees Eivor enter two of the Nine Realms from Norse Mythology, both of which are expertly designed and beautifully written. With these realms, Valhalla has a total of five world maps to explore. In terms of gameplay, the game favors direct combat more often, but stealth can be rewarding and is doable. This makes sense, as Eivor is a Viking raider, with loose training in the ways of the Hidden Ones. Usually, I’ll find myself attempting stealth until I inevitably alert the guards and have to go full drengr on them. The equipment system is similar to that of Odyssey, but each item is unique and can be upgraded to mythical potential. This let me wear the outfit I wanted, without it being too under-leveled for what I was doing. A new mechanic of Raids has been added, impromptu events that you can trigger by sailing your crew up to monastery. As you and your crew slaughter the guards, you run around finding supplies and raw materials to bring back to your village to build. Conquest battles from Odyssey have returned vaguely as siege battles, in which you lead an army to break through an enemy’s defenses and slay their commanders. I found these events to be quite fun, with most of them being unique from the others and cinematic in their own lights. The collectables around the map take the form of wealth, generally weapons and armor and materials to upgrade them, artifacts, such as tattoo designs or literal Roman artifacts, and mysteries. The mysteries are small side-missions, generally contained to a small area around its blip on the map. These go the range from fun to boring, and none are ever too challenging, save for the ones that require you to fight, but those also tend to be the most rewarding. Animus glitches were brought back from the Ezio trilogy, giving you a very fun parkour challenge that gave you a glimpse of an Isu secret at the end. Collecting them all gave you a small cinematic, tying Norse Mythology to the world of AC. In fact, Valhalla does a wonderful job tying the Assassin’s Creed world together, and one is bound to find hints of every game era in this one. Flyting challenges have been added, basically Viking rap battles, in which Eivor must match the rhyme and rhythm of their opponent to succeed, granting a charisma increase. Higher charisma will lead to favorable dialogue options throughout the game. As a minigame, the developers have added a dice game called “Orlog,” which I found to be very fun in the early game and not worth my time in the late game. Drinking contests, cairn staking, and even brawls with other Vikings provide a player with a plethora of things to do. And after 115 hours, I believe I have done everything this game has to offer. Every blip on the map is cleared and I’ve finished every mission that didn’t involve the opal dealer. Sorry, Reda, not interested. And yet, I’ve yet to see credits roll, and I can’t figure out why. The game has had essentially three endings, the first being the most climactic of them, with the second and third decreasing in importance and feeling more like “after credit” scenes than anything else. I enjoyed them, the game just seemed to keep puttering on, for hours even after what I had first assumed would be the ending.
All in all, Valhalla stands as a fantastic entry to the franchise. It’s fun, it brings the world together, and writing-wise is the best written game in the series, and it falls where other AC titles fall.

So. Many. Bugs and glitches. As soon as I left Norway the bugs came hard and fast. I would definitely have given the game a higher score if it had run well. Also why the American accents in medieval England!? That's just stupid. Other than that though, I think it would have got an 8.not as good as odyssey, but pretty damn good

Great game! Much improvement from AC Origins and Odyssey. I generally don't like mindless hacking and slashing but the fights in this game are enjoyable. Stealth assassins are superb and RPG elements are great. Side missions are great improvement from former AC games and can be challenging and witty.

This is easily the best Assassins Creed game Ubisoft has put out in a very long time. I never post any kind of review for a game until I’ve put in at least 20 hours playing the game or have beaten the game (if it takes less than 20 hours to beat). Now having played the game for about 22 hours I can confidently say this is my favorite Assassins creed game they’ve ever made. Now having played the game for about 22 hours I can confidently say this is my favorite Assassins creed game they’ve ever made. I’ll list the positives and negatives from here...
+ They’ve finally improved the graphics over Odyssey and Origins which basically just felt like re-skins of each other. + Animations are vastly improved over the last two games, and that goes for everything from execution sequences, to climbing to riding your horse, everything looks and feels much better and more lifelike. + Like the other Assassins’s creed games, they is tons to do, you’ll easily be able to put in over 100 hours and still have more to do. +Story in this one is actually decent, I care somewhat for the characters in Valhalla which I couldn’t say for the last games. +Sound design is equal to the last games, nothing wrong with it. + I got the game the day it launched and I have only run into maybe a couple bugs. One bug wasn’t allowing a quest to progress, but I just reloaded the game and it worked fine after that. Other bugs have been minimal and nothing game breaking. +Combat and abilities are basically the same as the last two games which I really liked so this is a plus for me, if you didn’t like the combat in the last games then you won’t like it in Valhalla either. + The map is really well made with countless places to loot and explore just like the last games, but Valhalla has more interesting and challenging puzzles in my opinion. The size of the world also seems to be about as big as the last two games as well. - The story is improved but still pretty underwhelming, so it’s a positive and a negative. I don’t really have any other negatives for the game so far after 22 hours, if I had to pick more negatives I would say combat is too similar to the last games and not much was really added or changed, I actually can’t think of anything that was added or changed. The game also has a very similar system to the cultist system they had in Odyssey, actually, it’s exactly the same with a different name. 8/10 from me, much of the same formula from the last games but much more polished, if you’ve liked the last Assassin’s Creed games, you’ll like this one.

If you want a decent experience, go for Origins or Odyssey. A lot of the secondary missions cannot be completed due bugs, the game is full of vissual glitches including bosses flying and enemies walking on walls. Bad response comands and the combat overall is a downgrade form previous games.

Gameplay: Very fun to go around raiding and killing, Love how now each piece of new gear matters instead of like AC Odyssey where you would get something new every minute, The settlement is cool, but gets a little tedious at times to level up, Climbing and Parkour is just as fun as ever, unlocking abilities is a bit stupid as you have to search around for one you actually want

Graphics: I don't know if it is just me, but the graphics are not good, there is a bunch of screen tearing and the models look ugly, i have seen PC Gameplay and the graphics seem a lot better so it may just be a PS4 thing ( Or maybe the game is just pissy at me rating it 5 )
Sound: Voice acting is much better than Odyssey, Eivor sound great and so do all the other characters, soundtrack feels ambient and mysterious, sound when fighting is very nice.
Characters: i love the Characters, they dont feel like plastic barbie dolls, they feel real, they each have their own personality which i just love because it makes you relate to them and become emotionally attached to them and in turn makes the story an emotional, tense, amazing one, which i would call one of the best in AC History
Variety: Variety is where i think the game really goes uphill, it has so many places to explore and the don't feel like carbon copies of each other, the enemies each have their own strengths and weaknesses to learn, a lot of gear that CHANGES APPERANCE WHEN YOU UPGRADE IT, which blew my mind when i first saw it.

But now comes to the reason i have rated this game a 5, if not for this i would have rated it at the very least an 8...

The crashes and glitches overrun my game, ever hour i have to reload because the game just wants to die, the glitches, while sometimes funny, can ruin the game, i am currently stuck on a quest because it wont play the cutscene to allow me to finish it...

There is probably al ot more i could have said, but, this is what came to mind as i was writing...

The Best AC of the last 5 years, of course has too many bugs, but the recreation of several maps to explore, the recreation of one of my favorite times, the return of the hidden, the return of the ancients and the hidden blade make it better. For me it was worth every penny that I pay. I really love it I can’t stop playing.

    Very Mediocre
The system with contrast and brightness is idiotic, and makes parts of the game near unplayable.
The fighting system needs some serious improvement
I personally wouldn't bother to play, and will be returning mine on Monday

The graphics are by far Valhalla’s best feature. The backdrop of English woodland and rivers makes for a very pleasant and vibrant environment. The problem I have with this is the same as Origins and Odyssey; it’s just too big. After a few hours things almost seem to ‘repeat’, as backgrounds look familiar no matter where you are on the map.

The story of Valhalla is as forgettable as previous entries, like a limp attempt at a JRPG. There’s a big battle at the start where you as a child witness people you love dying, leading to revenge quests. I don’t even think there’s a risk of spoiling the story here as it’s so familiar and cropped from every other game of this genre. I found the voice acting of female Eivor to be painfully cringey and forced also.

The gameplay of Valhalla is where they somehow made the game significantly worse than its predecessors. With Odyssey there was an enjoyable loop with satisfying combat. Valhalla has somehow lost this. Combat is monotonous. Areas are irritating to traverse, with rooms becoming so randomly dark.

The map of Valhalla is stupidly large and bloated with the same Ubisoft open-world crap that you need to explore and collect. It’s copied and pasted almost identically from previous entries. At first, it’s nice to explore but then I see familiar icons appearing on the map and large distances to unlock fast travel points and become very fatigued by the repetition.

If Valhalla was the only AC game on PS4, this would be a pretty decent game, but asking us to pay full price for the same old game with a new coat of paint is scandalous.

Valhalla also suffers massively from a lack of identity. The Viking theme isn’t as vivid and won’t live on in my memory as Origin and Odyssey did with their Egyptian and Greek themes. Games like Greedfall and Witcher have similar woodland environments, making Valhalla feel like it’s treading old ground.

Let’s also not forget the buggy nature of this game and the exploitative microtransactions.
Overall, this is a game to be avoided. Origins and Odyssey had refreshing elements, but Valhalla wears out its welcome very quickly, coming across as a game designed by businessmen sat around a table in suits rather than passionate developers keen to expand the limits of videogames. Avoid.

The game goes out of its way with all the politically correct silliness that has ravaged so many games and other forms of entertainment lately. The ending is dreadful, and it crashes pretty regularly. I was expecting a Viking game, and didn't really get one. This will most definitely be my last assasins creed game.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I was never really "that into" the assassin's creed games, until I saw the trailer for odyssey, the idea of building a spartan warrior was awesome to me, but alas this is about AC VALHALL!!! So I loved odyssey, and then a few months after I bought and played it I saw the early trailers for AC Valhalla, and I was hooked before it even had a release date!! I pre-ordered it - which I don't do that often mind you. I am super glad I picked up a copy of Valhalla. The story is amazing, and the graphics are even better. I love how you can go on raids, and have a settlement you can build, and a longship to customize. They finally outdid themselves over there at Ubisoft, that is for sure. I enjoyed the Asgard arc as well, getting to see (Ubisoft's version of) Asgard and take part in some of their most well known tales was A GREAT IDEA!! I can't wait to get Mjolnir and Odin's spear Gungnir!! Trust me Broder you will love this game! Expand

There are far fewer cookie-cutter outposts than in previous AC’s, and most sidequests now offer an interesting story, sometimes even with a less-than-obvious solution. While some anti-grind measures have backfired, Ubisoft is on the right track. [Issue#250, page 56]

Assassins Creed Valhalla is a wonderful addition to the AC franchise. It manages to avoid the tropes that became overplayed and focuses on a small well structured story. The fighting mechanics are enjoyable and offer many choices to fit different playing styles. There are a significant amount of bugs and the AI is underwhelming at times. But it's still another step in the right direction for Ubisoft.
