    Oh, what is there to be said about this game that hasn't already been said by the deluge of reviews already here? But I feel like I have to put my 2 cents in on this atrocity since well, Warcraft 3 meant a ton to me. It was one hundred percent the game I played most growing up. So many of my hours frittered away playing the campaign, custom campaigns, ladder matches and custom games. GoodOh, what is there to be said about this game that hasn't already been said by the deluge of reviews already here? But I feel like I have to put my 2 cents in on this atrocity since well, Warcraft 3 meant a ton to me. It was one hundred percent the game I played most growing up. So many of my hours frittered away playing the campaign, custom campaigns, ladder matches and custom games. Good times.

    I should've figured something was wrong in beta but I was naive. It became more obvious when this game just kinda dropped out of nowhere with basically no advertising.

    But onto the topic itself. Reforged? Well, this feels like an aborted project more than anything. Blizzard promised big things with this game. Completely redone cinematics, new UI, new graphics for all in game models, new voiceovers, new campaign missions and new skins for heroes even.

    They even showed off a taste of this newness with their fancy trailers for The Culling. There was a good amount of hype surrounding this game. But the end product? Good god. What happened with this?

    They delivered on the graphics at least but the issue there arises from the fact that well, everything seems far more muddled now. The original models and terrain for Warcraft 3 were super vibrant and very easily readable. Fights now are just a horribly muddy mess and I can't say I'm too big of a fan of the more realistic looking graphical style versus the more cartoony of classic Warcraft 3. They do look nice for the most part, however. I can't take that away from this HD Port. I also do like the fact that a lot of campaign character swaps like Dagren the orcslayer and Lord Nicolas Buzan have their own distinct looks now. Hence my rating of 1 and not 0. You didn't **** 1 thing up at least.

    Though certain models are just terrible looking. The Beastmaster and Fire Lord models in particular stick out as quite terrible.

    There is no new user interface. There is 1 reforged cutscene (The Reign of Chaos opening). There are 2 new skins you get by default (Fem Death Knight, Fem Demon Hunter) The rest being preorder bonuses. A handful of campaign missions were redesigned to resemble WoW versions of cities but otherwise, the campaign is fairly untouched. New voice wise, we have the female Death Knight and Demon Hunter, On top of a handful of new death rattles for certain units. I'm not sure how to put it exactly but it seems like the first few units for each faction got these (Footmen/Grunts/Archers/Ghouls. Riflemen/headhunter/Huntress/Crypt Fiend. Peasant/Peon/Acolyte.)

    The new client is very buggy and can be prone to slowing down. This wouldn't be a problem but Blizzard forced a merger of the old TFT client and Reforged. So, you can't even go back to classic Warcraft 3 now. This is also an issue since now there is no in game option for custom campaigns. You have to launch them manually in the world editor and play them mission by mission if you want to do that. More likely, World Editor will just crash if you attempt to open a custom campaign. Meaning many great custom campaigns are now rendered unplayable. Thanks, guys. I really didn't ever want to play any of Turnro or Tomoraiders campaigns ever again.

    This also extends to a ton of custom maps as well. Meaning creators/players will have to fix issues on a map by map basis if they wish them to be playable in Reforged.

    But many will not be inclined to do this since in blizzards new EULA for Reforged they decree any map made in their world editor is their moral property. Meaning if you make it and they want it, you're ****ed. It's theirs now. They don't even have to credit you. This has clearly spawned over them being super bitter about not owning the MOBA genre as a whole.

    Online connections seem to be fairly unstable but this is something common amongst all games on launch. Worth noting at least.

    All in all, Warcraft 3 reforged feels like a project that was aborted midway through development but Blizzard opted to release anyway. I'm not sure why this game came out basically unfinished. Maybe its because the preorders were mediocre and they didn't feel a full remake was worth the money so they just finished models and maps and called it a day, using whatever left over remade assets they'd already made but not bothering with doing the rest.

    Or maybe a chunk of those 800 people they fired last year were on the development team for this project and as a result, things slowed so much they just had to give out what they had done.

    Regardless the cause, the end product is not worth the 30 dollars they want. Certainly not worth the 40 dollar deluxe edition either. It wounds me to write this review since Warcraft 3 means so much to me but it must be said.

    Don't buy this product. Maybe a year down the line when its fixed potentially but save your money. Or just wait for a crack and judge yourself.    … Expand

    As a game modder, their policy on trying to prevent another Dota situation from occurring is a stark overreaction that is extremely discouraging to me and probably many others. That's even ignoring the massive amount of other issues present.

    Where are shadows under trees where's ambient occlusion? Why trees and grass dont move because of wind? Why fog dont looks like volumetric object? Why a large majority of cut-scenes are static and there is no nothing happens with camera?

    Blizzard, take a look at Dota 2 it's how your Reforged should look in 2020: stylisation like in WoW ("hand-painted" colourfulness textures and hyperbolic models with no excessive details) + graphics based on new technologies (new advanced lightning system, light shafts, glow, shadows, fx-effects etc.).

    Do I need to explain you Blizzard about nuts and bolts of your own developed game stylization?

    I guess the game didn't developed by Blizzard. Old Warcraft 3 looks more better than Reforged (despite low poly models, low res. textures and outdated graphics engine) because of talented artists, game designers and modellers worked on classic game.

    It's easier to remake the game from scratch, following the canon of Blizzard's style than trying to patch the completely wrong game.    … Expand

Blizzard has effectively murdered a decades old community in one move and its policies reflect an incredibly authoritarian, demanding, greedy and frankly stupidly blind stance. It is becoming increasingly apparent that Blizzard has betrayed its fans and remorselessly turns itself into a cold corporate vacuum of a company. The one good quality to Reforged would be the graphics but even those completely fail to be true to the original spirit and atmosphere of the game, instead looking like a cheap Chinese knockoff replica. The only way this game could be worse if it were to destroy your harddrive or spread nazi propaganda. The worst thing is I'm not even being dramatic. This sentiment is shared by the overwhelming majority of Warcraft III veterans. Reforged fully deserves its horrendous rating and I hope this serves as a massive red flag to any that would consider even a tentative interest in Reforged or any other Activision Blizzard game purchases. Their chain of soulless decisions has sparked outrage so many times that the word outrage has lost its meaning. The 800 employee layoffs. Suppressing the Blitzchung human rights advocacy.     This game is a literal downgrade of a game made 2 decades ago. It runs slow, the character models look worse?. The voice acting is ... worse? the new FMV is .. also worse! It's just bad all around. Don't even mention all the bugs. Asking money for a downgrade on abandonware is crazy. Fastest refund I've ever asked for. AVOID.

    This is their advertisement. Keep in mind they literally outsourced the ONLY thing they did to this game to malaysian sweat shop workers, which was a reskin. Then they removed a BUNCH of the features of the original game. Then they asked more money for this game than WC3 originally cost, with less of the features.

    Not only was the online feature with battle.net not working during the initial release, even the single player aspects and the cinematics fail to live up to the original release of the vanilla. Furthermore online gameplay lags and stutters even with a RTX2080 GPU which is far above the recommended specs of the game. One positive note is they are continuing to accept refunds for the game through their support tickets but that does not contribute to increasing the score for the title in any way as that is not a gameplay issue but a customer service issue.… Expand

    All 'new stuff' is like someone modded all models in the game...and thats it, its all, everything else is same or worse by design/feel.     BUT THE BIGGEST PROBLEM is that this game is not working, this is not even BETA state, this plays like late ALPHA. Black screens, crashes, messed up sound for units, laggy interface, stuttering on a pc that can handle max out DOOM on 200fps...
    I dont want event to talk about new TOA for custom maps...
    This whole game is one, very poorly made, 30/40 dollars mod...

    I don't care that the graphics are much more new. It's not better. Better graphics doesn't mean better game.

    Honestly at least do what you promise us and don't get rid of old features and I'll consider picking it up again.

Blizzard blendet die Kernzielgruppe komplett aus, entfernt für die Community essentielle Bestandteile des Spiels und hat sich seit der langen Betaphase nie die Blöße gegeben,Eine Ära geht zu Ende. Es ist mir völlig rätselhaft wie ein so großer Konzern Entscheidungen rechtfertigen kann oder möchte, die zu einem Ergebnis geführt haben, das uns hier und heute als Reforged präsentiert wurde. Blizzard blendet die Kernzielgruppe komplett aus, entfernt für die Community essentielle Bestandteile des Spiels und hat sich seit der langen Betaphase nie die Blöße gegeben, auch nur einmal auf Augenhöhe mit der Community zu kommunizieren und auf Kritik einzugehen.

    Ein Großteil der Punkte wurde in den anderen Reviews schon genannt, ich möchte speziell nochmal diese Punkte hervorheben:

    - das klassische Matchmaking wurde entfernt; es gibt keine Ladder und keine Übersicht der Siege/Niederlagen mehr. IN EINEM KOMPETITIVEN MULTIPLAYER GAME. Das war ein so zentraler Bestandteil des Spiels, das über 17 Jahre dafür gesorgt hat, dass das Spiel immer noch gespielt wurde. Unglaublich.
    - es ist nicht mehr möglich mit der klassischen Spielversion The Frozen Throne zu spielen; stattdessen wird man über den Launcher in den neuen Layer gezwungen (mit all den Nachteilen)
    - die alten Sounds sind nicht mehr verfügbar; die Nostalgie der alten Stimmen z.B. wenn der Peon "Arbeit, Arbeit" ruft ist verloren gegangen. Die neuen Stimmen klingen gewöhnungsbedürftig. Das mag für neue Spieler kein Problem sein, ist aber für alte Spieler sehr enttäuschend.
    - die User Experience bzw. die grafische Oberfläche der Menü- und Panelgestaltung ist einfach nur ein Schlag ins Gesicht. Schrift, Buttons, Chat, Einstellungen bis hin zu den verpixelten Karten in der Vorschau oder der fehlenden Möglichkeit die richtige Auflösung für WIdescreen-Monitore einzustellen (gab es mal in der 1.30; hat Blizzard auch erfolgreich kaputt gepatcht); oder die fehlende Möglichkeit Custom Hotkeys direkt über das Menü einzustellen ist einfach nur frustrierend
    - Custom Games funktionieren nur noch teilweise oder eingeschränkt und es gibt keinen richtigen Filter mehr in der Übersicht (nur noch eine Volltextsuche); die ganze Übersicht wirkt sehr unübersichtlich gegenüber der alten Version. Das bekommt jedes moderne iPad Spiel besser hin.

    Noch nie wurde bei einem Remake so wenig über die Grafik gesprochen wie bei diesem Spiel. Blizzard hat das Spiel kastriert, nochmal kastriert, nochmal kastriert und dann mit dem falschen Farbton drübergepinselt. Auch wenn die neue Grafik der Models und Icons im Detail ganz schön aussehen mag, funktioniert sie im Großen und ganzen einfach nicht in einem kompetitiven Spiel, da die Lernkurve durch die Entfremdung der alten Grafik zu hoch ist und die visuelle Übersicht auf dem Schlachtfeld durch die vielen Details, falschen "Farben" und Beleuchtung sehr schlecht ausfällt.

    Das neue Stadtportal Icon sieht z.B. aus wie ein Heiltrank die Grunzer sehen neben einigen Banditen Creeps aus wie die eigenen Einheiten. Das kann einfach nicht funktionieren.

    Bad remaster. Made me lose a lot of maps. Broke a lot of things. They now want to own every custom game created for themselves. Cannot even refund this garbage or play the original game as this overwrites that one. Worst!
    More importantly, they lied. They made promises and did not keep them. Ruined the game for most of us.

    False marketing, EULA changes that prohibit tons of custom games, old WC3 client and its previously superior Battle net functionality gone, censorship of certain voice lines (Dryad saying she's wasted), the list goes on. There are so many reasons you should hate this, if you actually like the old Warcraft 3.

    No new UI, poor animation/cutscenes and stealing people's creations. Awful.

Some argue that the textures are too dull, or the team colors not vibrant enough. I agree, but we have to start somewhere.

    Not much else is great about this release. It was originally advertised as having an updated campaign with new voice acting and new cutscene camera angles to show off the assets. They also had various pitches about what they'd do with cinematic cutscenes, which is a lot of the grief you'll read about on forums. Let's nevermind the drama about cinematics, it's only a couple of minutes _total_ of the whole game experience and so not a huge deal, but it was misleading. They also stopped short of providing as many new models as they had suggested. They did get very close, though. The new UI seems to have been scrapped, along with just about all of the campaign updates, including voiceover updates. Keep in mind that all of the initial announcement material that outlines all of these features is still part of the official website and marketing material, which is what condemns all of it.

    What is made worse is that, unlike other "remasters" or "remakes" (no consensus on which this is *supposed* to be), Reforged has taken the original game along with it. You can no longer play the original game with your friends since the client auto-updates to the Reforged client, meaning you are stuck playing Reforged without Reforged models.

    No matter which game you bought, old or new, you're stuck with the incredible framerate/performance issues (for this eighteen year old game) that also impact the *MENUS* (which apparently is an embedded web browser instead of using the engine that the rest of the game uses with models, animations, and hitboxes, like WarCraft 3 used to?), limited functionality (there are more than a dozen discrete Battle.net features that just no longer exist in WarCraft 3), limited gameplay options (customs games and custom campaigns currently broken an absent, as of time of writing), not really any new features, definitely no QOL improvements (still can't reconnect after a game if you disconnect, so we relive the nostalgia of that **** experience at least!). A lot of the charm and care put into the original game is gone such as faction art and flair in menus.. but that's just presentation. We're so far away from that being a concern, because the game is broken as **** doesn't have even half of what it promised.. and worst of all..

    .. Even if you did *just* want new models, the animations are so poorly done, the old lighting and rendering system has been SO poorly updated (or hardly at all?), and the resolution/camera angles do not provide enough fidelity to actually make any practical USE out of the detail! As a matter of fact, sometimes it can be hard to tell which units you're looking at because of all of these issues crashing into each other.

    Warcraft 3: Reforged is a colossal mess, as many of us expected when we waited almost a *FULL CALENDAR YEAR* to see an *ART PREVIEW* of the night elves. Blizzard was silent on the further development of this game because it was a mess, remains a mess, and will always be a mess. I'd like to give it a single point, because Lemon Sky did a great job on the initial renders (that we are hardly allowed to enjoy..), and I'm sure this game will allow _some_ new people to experience and enjoy a game they otherwise wouldn't have.. but it came with the death of one of the greatest games I've ever played.

    I spent so much time bonding with my friends over this game as a teen - countless hours of fun. We could play it last month, and it was still a good game. Today, even if we wanted to put up with all of these issues, we can't even play together since we're not in the same region. And that is profoundly sad.    … Expand

    Bait and switch marketing campaign. Showed a completely different game in their marketing materials, delivered a complete disaster. On top of that, the original game has lost critical features in the process, forcing old users to purchase Reforged for the removed feature-set from the original game (such as Shadows in-game for example).

    i just think it's just a sad situation, a lot of us grew up with this beautiful master piece and the after experience with the custom maps where just so fun, to think that everything is getting erased just because blizzard is scared of lossing prestige, just because they weren't able to make a fun gamemode by they own.

    EA managed to mess up a billion dollar IP, but even they realized where they went wrong and now battlefront 2 is amazing.

    Blizzard took an 18 year old game and downright broke it, I can't even play it due to terrible servers(which were fine before) and just seems like a greedy end of fiscal year cash grab. For shame blizzard, for shame.

    Why would you do this destroy such a fan favorite game. Activision and Blizzard never should have merged. I was so excited for this game to come out only to be met with a lazy re-skin and texture update. Blizzard deserves this score and no one will give a **** about Overwatch 2 or Diablo 4 if this is the type of quality content blizzard comes up with.

    They had a chance to revive one of the best RTS ever, and they blew it. It's not a labor of passion, and all the people involved should feel ashamed.

    This is an insult to all Warcraft fans, Blizzard basically took down the Warcraft 3 Rebirth mod (which was available for free) and essentially made it themselves to sell to you only it's inferior to the mod in every single way. Boycott this godawful company!!!

    I like the game, but seriously this is extremely disappointing without even talking about the false advertising. I think it should be abundantly clear that what they have done with the game is unacceptable. Many features from the old game don't work, and the graphical upgrades, while nice, are not nearly good enough to justify it.

    Blizzard has addressed some of the complaints and criticism hurled its way, and has promised to work on many of these issues. Naturally, one must ask why the game was released in such a state, especially considering the negative attention the company has garnered over the past year with the reveal of Diablo Immortal and the Blizzard/China controversy.

    In the end it’s worth noting that when viewing a remake or remaster what needs to be taken into consideration is the source material, how it looks, feels, and plays. That is, in addition to the work carried out to recreate moments, update visuals, and change any of the presentation. To do otherwise would be silly, a terrible game with a wonderful remaster doesn’t warrant a high score. In the case of Warcraft III, the inverse to that is also true. So, what we end up with is something in-between. A classic reborn, in a package that doesn’t warrant all that much in the way of celebration.
