    Blizzard (Activision) is not the start of all that is unholy to the gaming community. This started way back with Ubisoft and EA and Bethesda picked up on the 'trend'. Now is Blizzard's turn to turn a blind eye on the gaming community and promote corporate strategy and smart marketing in the gaming universe.     I'm so dissapointed. All those promises were great, but ended up being nothing. Luckily for me, someone gifted me the game because he knew Warcraft 3 was my favorite pc game from my childhood.

    Guess now its just memories, since they also destroyed the old game.

Some many left out features and no updated features added in? No fixes and filled with bugs... Just a quick paint job in order to get money for their financial earning report.     This is what happens when Blizzard continues being partnered with Activision. Just push out an unfinished half-baked mess of a game and expect people to just accept it for what it is?

    Reforged had the potential to be something much bigger. Too bad not even Blizzard even cares about the quality of their own craft. Massive disappointment.

    Compared to the attention 2000s Blizzard put in Warcraft 3, the current Blizzard feels like 5th tier amateurs that have no idea what made Warcraft 3, or any game for that matter, engaging and flavorful.

    I first played Reign of Chaos 16 years ago. The game was absolutely stunning in how polished, compact and rich it was. The Frozen Throne expansion made it so unbelievably amazing that I made a vow to always install RoC and TFT on any new PC i get and play through the campaign at least once.

    All the RoC campaigns were stunners, concluding with an epic, earth-shattering conflict against the towering demon, Archimonde, that wanted to corrupt the World Tree. The final mission, aptly titled Twilight of the Gods, is an hour-long grueling battle of wills as waves of the Undead slam against your defenses perched on a mountain serpentine before ultimately overwhelming you. Your goal isn't to win—it's to merely stall Archimonde until the final trap is laid for him.

    TFT missions were similarly epic and introduced new heroes, units, items and so much more, finishing with Arthas, the corrupted prince, and Illidan, a blindfolded demon hunter, vying for domination.

    RoC and TFT had custom games that could be played online or offline with friends, a replay function and a World Editor for making your own maps. I spent countless hours with my older brother watching replays, playing local games, making maps and just having FUN without an internet connection, an online account or a subscription.

    Warcraft 3 wasn't merely a game, it was a true gem of programming. The love and care that went into making it was palpable at every step. For example, each unit had its own set of sounds that meant I could close my eyes and understand what was going on and there were HUNDREDS of units in the game.

    Everything was accessible through the World Editor or one could just import custom models, sounds, scripts etc. Better yet, through the World Editor I could extract any of those sounds as .wav files and do with them as I please, and I did set Mountain King's "For Khaz Modan!" attack sound as my brother's ringtone at his request.

    Warcraft 3 was such a responsive, polished and engaging game that I can rightfully call it "World of Warcraft before World of Warcraft". It was such a deep, layered and colorful experience that it felt like a living, breathing world that had every right to exist on its own. But, this world would soon be attacked by something far worse than Archimonde.

    The first signs of trouble appeared around 2010, when Blizzard's official Bnet service was swarmed by hackers, and Blizzard barely did anything, issuing patches on a semi-annual basis, but there were still custom games and replays and the campaigns. Yet, Warcraft 3 lingered in a limbo.

    Warcraft 3 had a staunch tournament scene, but Blizzard squashed it by threatening tournament organizers with lawsuits if they persist. Why? Well, StarCraft 2 was coming up and Blizzard felt Warcraft 3 was detracting from their new e-sports wonder. Indeed, many Warcraft 3 pros switched over to SC2, including Grubby, the daddy of Warcraft 3, before Koreans took over the scene.

    This brings me to Warcraft Reforged, which was installed on my machine on January 29, 2020 around 10 p.m. UTC, without me knowing that the game I loved so much was nearing its end. I clicked the Warcraft 3 icon to play a round of my favorite tower defense before bed and instead got a 30GB download that took nearly two hours. Once that was done, I got what looked so colorful that it might as well have been Hearthstone's interface.

    So, what's changed? For me, the owner of the "Classic" client, barely anything, except that now Warcraft 3 is encapsulated within the Reforged interface for absolutely no reason. Other than that, some models and colors were changed and that's about it.

    Do not buy or play this game. Do not support Blizzard. Do not watch any streams or videos of any Blizzard games.

    If you're curious about what the real Warcraft 3 experience looked like, find a RoC or TFT client that's been patched to a version above 1.21b, which is the one that disabled the CD check to about 1.26, which I believe was one of the last ones to not bundle the launcher that checks for updates, allowing you a pristine offline experience.

    For me, the days of playing Warcraft 3 are over. I will not allow my precious memories be ruined by this horrible, disgusting cashgrab that skates the line between false advertising and downright deception.

    I am a Blizzard fan from 2003....it saddens me to see them go this down...but if they don;t get hey;re s*** together....things will go even bad. They were a company with huge love for gamers and passion for the games they own/created....sad...quite sad.

    This game was my last hope for blizzard! All they had to do was update the graphics and cut scenes and nothing else, but they messed EVERYTHING up! Corporate greed has ruined them! I can already tell Diablo 4 is going to blow CHUNKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    This is a remake of a game that inspired me to create games.
    The Custom Maps feature was a great set of tools to learn design and light programming.
    Now Blizzard retroactively enacted a EULA that give them ownership of absolutely everything you make in it. So...don't bother I guess.

    I did not buy this game, but seeing as it had a direct impact on making one of my favorite games from my childhood WORSE, it still somehow managed to have a direct negative impact on me. Thanks for ruining a classic Actiblizzion. Please do not support this game.

Naturally when I heard of reforged I was so excited. I watched the progress and regularly checked for updates. Now that it's out I wish it was still in development. I have refunded a total of 3 games in my life, and this was the first one that I played and asked for a refund. I didn't read any of the reviews before buying it, so I was unaware of how many things were cut from development.

    After playing through a bit of the campaign, I got to the Culling of Stratholme and I was shocked to see that the cinematics I saw at Blizzcon didn't make it into the game. Wow. I did a bit of looking, and it looks like most of that type of storytelling work was removed from the game. Couple that with the jerky movement (@144fps) and blackscreens I was experiencing, not to say anything about the loss of saved games, and it was an unmitigated disaster.

    I wanted to believe in Blizzard after all the bad press recently, so I chose to support them. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like this product got the time it needed to become polished and amazing like so many Blizzard games from the past.    … Expand

All they had to do was visually upgrade the models, animations and terrain textures in the game and hopefully move from 1 core CPU usage to 2,3,4. Nothing realized from that.     Heroes and units do not look as they did during BlizzCON presentation, neither in game and in cut-scenes.

    There is no Ladder.
    Added unit sounds do not add to the game, they further ruin it.
    Contrast, lighting and colors are horrible.
    UI is useless and needlessly complicated.
    They even managed to ruin the Custom map scene (DOTA anyone?)!

    Every way you look there is nothing but wasteland and destruction.
    Everything that could have been ruined was ruined.

    They just had to slap a huge price tag on it to trick people into thinking it was a high value product.

    Horrible game, not even in 2003 could you get this bad. Hilarious how they even failed to make a reskin of an old game but not competent enough to create features we had back 17 years ago! This company went from being the best to being trash in no time. The hilarious part is they are banning people for asking refund for the game or helping others getting refunds.

A few days after I bought the game for the sole reason of playing custom games I played 10 years ago like naruto vs bleach is now under new policy to ban 3rd party licensed content. No clans so goodbye old friends. No ladder so goodbye ranking. The menus are worse somehow. Animations still capped at 20 fps. Many removed features from classic. The textures are a tad better when zoomed all the way in but in order to play the game you must be zoomed all the way out which now makes any texture upgrade provided barely noticable. Classic users are forced to integrate to this new structure which is a major downgrade from what they we're playing. That's just the tip of the ice berg so in other words this is a game to stay clear from.… Expand

    This is so bad. A RTS game with no competitive multiplayer, crashes constantly, lobby system doesn't work, hotkeys don't work, single player campaign doesn't work.

    This is an incomplete game that doesn't work. Can't play offline single player, can't play online multiplayer. Where is the game?

    Playability: Buggy, laggy, with multiple crashes on both my and my brothers comps. I cannot understand for the life of me how this wasn't just delayed for three months in order for more combinations of GPUs and CPUs to be tested/programmed. This a fundamental flaw that is time consuming and costly to fix after launch. If this isn't done right, nothing else matters. A zero here.

    Campaign Gameplay: This is the best of the worst aspects of this game. It does most of what the original did, however it feels rushed as an experience. Leaving out the crashes and bugs, it feels like most departments had their budgets slashed after 50% of the project was completed. Cutscenes are not up any measurable standard of quality, character models upgrades do little more than break story immersion when their lighting, colors, or other effects draw too much attention or stand out in an odd way. And, quite frankly, it looks dated. Besides the visuals, some aspects of the story are lost or were cut, as if someone had taken little details and tossed em out, or someone else hadn't written down certain story details. There are about twenty of these overall and they are enough to make you wish you were playing the original. There really isn't any good reason for this I could think of outside of cost and/or time. Overall it feels like a lack of effort. A zero here as well.

    Online Gameplay: Some of us like custom maps and appreciate the time and talent it takes to make the good ones, some of us like casual normal matches, and some of us like the competitive nature of an online ranking system. First, all custom maps made by users for Reforged, Blizzard is claiming ownership. There's just something about that feels wrong. I know games are made for profit, as are most venues of entertainment, but this is theft of ideas, time, and effort. It's not just a map. It wasn't the map that made DOTA and other spinoffs, it was the idea. And whoever had that idea for WC3 wasn't the first to have it, just the first to take that step and be successful on the WC3 platform. And for the next successful idea that takes off on the reforged platform, good luck in court. Normal matches are fine but laced with the playability issues already mentioned. There is also a host of UI issues that cause confusion and a general feeling of frustration.Oh, and there are serious random connectivity issues. Last but not least, for the competitive WC3 gamer, there is no ladder system, I repeat NO ladder system. Good stuff. Alas, another zero.

    Did Blizzard deliver on the advertisements and promises? Did Blizzard play off of the nostalgia factor in an effort to make a quick buck? I think after reading this review or by playing it yourself, you will see why, here again, I scored Reforged a zero.    … Expand

    Wc3 was mainly either melee maps or custom maps. Blizzard (dev) killed both. No more ranking (melee) & most custom maps don't work anymore. Why oh why... other than $, I guess.

    I have yet to play the original warcraft 3. But even individually of the original, this is a game with horrible pacing, bad voice overs, repetitive gameplay, boring cutscenes, and to top it all of Blizzard decided to **** up with their policies on this one. This is ok track to being the lowest rated metacritic game in history, and even though some are worse, I do not see any value in this one.

    I was in the middle of playing the single player campaign of the original Warcraft III ROC with my son. We didn't even make it to TFT. I never bought Reforged and now my son and I can no longer play the original game. We never asked for the original game to be destroyed.

    Shadiest business practice ever. You can’t see your losses unless you’re in Masters league (top 2% of players). Random Teams and Arranged Teams are no longer separate and can be matched together which is insanely unfair. You can’t host whatever custom games you want.No clans, profiles, tournaments, LAN, offline AI games, offline custom games, custom campaigns, animated campaign screens, or cross region custom games. You can’t see your losses unless you’re in Masters league (top 2% of players). Random Teams and Arranged Teams are no longer separate and can be matched together which is insanely unfair. You can’t host whatever custom games you want. Reforged uses the popularity system from Starcraft 2, you can only play what Blizzard wants. You can no longer have multiple accounts or easily make new accounts. If you have an old Warcraft 3 battle net account it’s deleted. The Reign of Chaos campaign is broken because it uses the balance adjustments from The Frozen Throne expansion. Blizzard said they were going to update all the cut scenes but they re-did less than 5% of them. The ones they did re-do don’t even look good. The new art assets are awful, overly realistic, and clash with the cartoony style of the original game. The re-done units also makes the game significantly more difficult to read and see what’s going on. The new menus and UI are broken, laggy, and overall worse in every way imaginable. It’s like a mobile game UI pasted on top of a classic PC game. Custom games now have a report button for copyright infringement or foul language, 100% no fun allowed. Worst of all if you don’t like any of this they broke the original Warcraft 3 client so you can never go back. I’ve never been more disappointed with Blizzard in my entire life and I’ve bought every game they’ve made since Warcraft 2 Battle Net Edition.… Expand

    Blizzard has addressed some of the complaints and criticism hurled its way, and has promised to work on many of these issues. Naturally, one must ask why the game was released in such a state, especially considering the negative attention the company has garnered over the past year with the reveal of Diablo Immortal and the Blizzard/China controversy.

    In the end it’s worth noting that when viewing a remake or remaster what needs to be taken into consideration is the source material, how it looks, feels, and plays. That is, in addition to the work carried out to recreate moments, update visuals, and change any of the presentation. To do otherwise would be silly, a terrible game with a wonderful remaster doesn’t warrant a high score. In the case of Warcraft III, the inverse to that is also true. So, what we end up with is something in-between. A classic reborn, in a package that doesn’t warrant all that much in the way of celebration.
