Turnip Boy Commits Tax Evasion is a super cute and pun filled game starring an adorable Turnip who is in financial trouble and obsessed with ripping any paper he can get his hands on. Will he ever pay off his debt?

Turnip Boy Commits Tax Evasion takes a pretty bonkers premise, and turns it into a thorough action-adventure game. Not only are the design choices and character dialogue hilarious, but the gameplay hits on all of the beats that make a good Zelda clone. The full game is on the shorter side, but it left me hoping that we haven’t seen the last of Turnip Boy and this curious world.

Turnip Boy Commits Tax Evasion delivers exactly what its name promises, and it also brings with it a charming story and some nice Zelda-esque dungeons. Despite the game being very short, it is recommendable because of its beautiful art style and amazing soundtrack.

Short but sweet can sound like a back-handed compliment. But to apply it here is not to damn with faint praise. Both short and sweet, Turnip Boy turns a hearty root vegetable base into a frothy, fizzy confection that doesn’t let you over-indulge.

Turnip Boy Commits Tax Evasion is an adventure with very atypical characters, enjoyable landscapes and humorous dialogues, although its playability is wrong with regard to changing objects or clumsy camera movement.

Dig beneath its cutesy surface and you'll find a small but tasty crop that's well worth harvesting. [Issue#359, p.117]

Lasting a few fun hours, Turnip Boy Commits Tax Evasion is a simple but effective Zelda-like adventure in a colourful veggie-filled dystopia. However, this salad dodger’s gameplay is derivative of dozens of other better games, and it doesn’t really do anything to explore its novel concept.

There are some good aspects of the game like it's art and music. But the bad aspects of the game that stick out like a sore thumb is the unfunny meme humor, lame writing, mediocre gameplay. I had a couple of good times with the game, some people would say that it's a Zelda clone, but it's not. The combat is pretty lame, Attacking or using an object like the watering just freezes turnip boy in place while the attack executes, which ticked me off a bit but I got used to it. It's very short for a 15 dollar game. Get it on Gamepass or get the mobile version which is like 5 bucks (the actual price of the game). Expand

The game is fine but quite short at this price. Otherwise, it's a relaxing fun game.

The gameplay is completely functional, but very clunky, and while not very prevalent, it makes the boss fights the worst part of the game by far. The comedy is almost entirely limited to god-awful meme reference humor, and occasionally decent but woefully underdeveloped dark and/or absurdist humor. The game feels like it was written by a 15-year-old furry who writes fanfiction as a hobby. I enjoyed the experience, but only due to its short length; if it had been a fully fleshed-out 10 hour game, the problems I had with the game would've snowballed to the point of being unbearable. A cutesy and charming style can only take a game so far. Expand

It's kind of like Minit if there was no hook, no inventive gameplay or visuals, and overmuch writing that doesn't add anything. It's the kind of game you'd expect to play in a browser 10 years ago, and even then you'd know it's pretty janky. It's a game in which nothing at all is polished or rewarding, and everything is a plodding chore. You're playing for the dialogue basically, and the dialogue is nothing to write home about. Expand
