A very charming little Action-Adventure with surprisingly dark lore and undertones. Recommended for anyone looking to have some simple fun for a few hours.

The game is really charming and has a decent story. I really like the little touches in the music and forest. The game play is a bit minimal but it is still fun. I would definitely recommend this game.

It's a bad Zelda clone. It takes three hours to beat and there's no challenge at all. The comedy is almost entirely limited to god-awful meme reference humor, and occasionally decent but woefully underdeveloped dark and/or absurdist humor. The game feels like it was written by a 15-year-old furry who writes fanfiction as a hobby. I enjoyed the experience, but only due to its short length; if it had been a fully fleshed-out 10 hour game, the problems I had with the game would've snowballed to the point of being unbearable. A cutesy and charming style can only take a game so far. Expand

It . . . kind of really sucks? It's kind of like Minit if there was no hook, no inventive gameplay or visuals, and overmuch writing that doesn't add anything. Some games emphasize good writing over gameplay. Turnip Boy doesn't have any gameplay, so it really could have used some good writing.

Just finished Turnip Boy Commits Tax Evasion. It was a fun little game, sort of in the style of Zelda Link the Past, with lots of funny elements to it. I went and found the docs I missed after first beating to do the real ending I guess? I didn’t try to get all the hats or full completionist though. I did one run of the train though and got 10 tickets from that to get 1 extra hat. But ya, definitely check it out and put in the few hours to finish it, I thought it was great. I’d give it 7/10 I guess. Expand

This game is pretty underwhelming to say the least. There are some good aspects of the game like it's art and music. The combat is pretty lame, Attacking or using an object like the watering just freezes turnip boy in place while the attack executes, which ticked me off a bit but I got used to it. It's very short for a 15 dollar game. Get it on Gamepass or get the mobile version which is like 5 bucks (the actual price of the game). Expand

    Story
With a title like that, you wouldn't necessarily think there'd be a story; but there is. Not a huge or detailed one, but there is one. You're obviously playing as Turnip Boy, a turnip living in a glass house who can only speak in punctuation marks in intervals of three but paying his property tax. Mayor Onion shows and makes Turnip Boy his assistant to go get increasingly questionable items for him so he'd look the other way about his taxes not being paid.

Oh and there's a macaroni who just recites a slightly friendlier version of the navy seal copypasta. The humor is mostly on-point! There are some references to stuff, though not as many as in Henry Stickmin; I don't think that will be topped anytime soon.

Since I'm trying to keep this review spoiler-free I'm gonna leave finding out how you get from collecting fertilizer for Mayor Onion to finding a nuke in a mafia stronghold to you.

    Gameplay
You're gonna meet lots of characters, like half of whom will give you side quests. It's not at all required to complete any of them, but if you do, you more often than not at least get a funny line or two you otherwise wouldn't have seen.

You will have some weak enemies to fight every now and then, but be aware that they all respawn if you leave the area and come back. They can only ever drop a heart, so if you're not short on HP, it's not worth to kill them, just trip out of their way. Oh yeah, there's no sprint, but you can trip some distance in the direction you're facing.

There are some puzzles, most of which are quite easy. You use a water can to complete them, later unlocking more items to use in puzzles.

This is the basic gameplay loop: receive quest, get item it wants, go back, repeat. There's nothing necessarily wrong with that, but I'll talk more about it in the Achievements section. You don't really play Turnip Boy Commits Tax Evasion for the gameplay; you play it for the jokes and achievements. Speaking of achievements:

    Achievement Scope
You can 100% the game under 4 hours. It has that going for it, however, it requires SO MUCH backtracking and grinding. The map isn't that big, but it gets much bigger because of the constant backtracking. Of course you have to complete every side quest, and after the game ends, you gotta grind about 50 tickets in the endless bossfight train. That gets quite tedious, but it certainly could have been much worse.

Achievements I think are notable are
    - Taxation without Representation - you have to beat the final boss again
    - Fashionista - collect all hats, which means grinding and beating all side quests
    - ??? - the rarest achievement, you gotta reach a certain point in the endless mode

    Verdict
All in all Turnip Boy Commits Tax Evasion is a short, humor-filled, laid-back experience. There are of course some cons to that, which you see now on the screen, but it is overall an enjoyable game.

Is it worth it?; you might be asking. Is it worth €12,49 in my opinion? No, I don't think it's worth that much. If it was longer, I'd say it's worth it, but at this length, I'll have to say no. However, on sale it is absolutely worth the money!

What about the score?; you also might be wondering. Turnip Boy Commits Tax Evasion get a solid 72/100.

Turnip Boy Commits Tax Evasion is a very solid and funny experience, and if it's on sale, I absolutely do recommend you pick it up!

Cute and hilarious Zelda like game. The only problem I had with it is that it was to short. I wish it was longer, but I still had a great time.

I find this game's artstyle, music, and character desing charmful, but does that mean it's a good value game? No.

This is a short game, it costs 15 dollars just for 2-3 hours, talking to caracthers becomes repetitive after some time, main controls are fine but i'm not used to them. If you're looking for a short game with great artstyle, music and caracther desing, it's great, but it

Turnip Boy Commits Tax Evasion is an adventure with very atypical characters, enjoyable landscapes and humorous dialogues, although its playability is wrong with regard to changing objects or clumsy camera movement.

Turnip Boy Commits Tax Evasion delivers exactly what its name promises, and it also brings with it a charming story and some nice Zelda-esque dungeons. Despite the game being very short, it is recommendable because of its beautiful art style and amazing soundtrack.
