It's a bad Zelda clone. It takes three hours to beat and there's no challenge at all. Give this to a child for their first game or play it with them because otherwise you'll be saying the whole time, okay but when does the game start. Beat every boss first try. It's a charming game, and the art style is delightful, but I found the gameplay in a struggle between being easy and easy but annoying, and the game's overall writing unengaging and derivative. The comedy is almost entirely limited to god-awful meme reference humor, and occasionally decent but woefully underdeveloped dark and/or absurdist humor. The game feels like it was written by a 15-year-old furry who writes fanfiction as a hobby. I enjoyed the experience, but only due to its short length; if it had been a fully fleshed-out 10 hour game, the problems I had with the game would've snowballed to the point of being unbearable. A cutesy and charming style can only take a game so far. Expand

It . . . kind of really sucks? It's kind of like Minit if there was no hook, no inventive gameplay or visuals, and overmuch writing that doesn't add anything. It's the kind of game you'd expect to play in a browser 10 years ago, and even then you'd know it's pretty janky. Some games emphasize good writing over gameplay. Turnip Boy doesn't have any gameplay, so it really could have used some good writing.

Turnip Boy Commits Tax Evasion is an adventure with very atypical characters, enjoyable landscapes and humorous dialogues, although its playability is wrong with regard to changing objects or clumsy camera movement.

Turnip Boy Commits Tax Evasion delivers exactly what its name promises, and it also brings with it a charming story and some nice Zelda-esque dungeons. Despite the game being very short, it is recommendable because of its beautiful art style and amazing soundtrack.

Dig beneath its cutesy surface and you'll find a small but tasty crop that's well worth harvesting. [Issue#359, p.117]
