GOTY. the world of Skyrim, meets the combat of dark souls, meets the progression system of Shadow of Mordor. The only problem I have with this game is that it doesn't have a suicidal difficulty setting.

I think this title may very well stand as the best RPG I have played. I strongly recommend casuals and hardcore alike to buy it and enjoy it thoroughly.

Little Tip: Reading the books (or some of them) first multiply the already massive quality of the title. Lots of references to them.

    TLDR: Buy. Now.

Most overrated game of all time! This game doesn't do anything new; it's a blend of all rpg's out there. Critics are praising it for no reason (maybe because 2015 has been **** so far for gaming or they haven't played Witcher 1 &2, which are by far better than 3). The Witcher 3 have a big world but the game don't seem to know what to make of it. It's just about the main story line. Exploring is hardly rewarding, the witcher gear quests are mostly go and fetch, there are no complex dungeons, just some small caves, everything is easy rewarded, bland and empty.

One of the best RPG I have ever played! I've just spend 150 hours on this game, and I've given it a score of 10, so not much point in going into too many details on how good it is, but I will remain true to it's flaws however, cause need to be known.

I can praise the game for hours on end:

    1. Awesome dialogue system
    2. One of the best fighting mechanics I've tried
    3. Extremely beautiful grafics
    4. Very large amount of quests to do, which is told in a good way
    5. It treats you like an adult, and thus making it feel more real (yes boobs are awesome and so on, but it makes going to a sauna feel more real, than if people cover themselves)
    6. Despite what many people say about the controls, I've had an easy time with it on pc, and can't imagine using a controller.

I could go on, but I don't think I need to be specific on that.

However, the game has some isues:
    1. Your horse Roach is dump as hell, will often run into trees, suddenly stop when you run, and often don't respond to when you call for it.
    2. The world is huge, and maybe a little to much so.... Some areas are there, but has no quests or content linked to them, which makes them feel like they are there for show.
    3. This one is a little mixed; it has a recommended level on each quest, which is good for when you need to know how much you need before taking the quests. The downside of this however, is that you will always know when a mission goes to hell, like you are supposed to talk to someone, but with the level indication, you know that you will fight, instead of having it as a surprise.
    4. It has a couple of bugs, but I've not encountered many, but it needs to be said.
    5. Romances feels rewarding, however, there are to few scenes with your loved ones (not necessarily sex scenes, but just where you spend time with Triss, cause Yennifer has more than a few scenes in the storyline)

This is definitely the best RPG ever made. I just want to thank CDPR for this amazing game.
Downgraded graphics? The game still looks amazing and is best looking open world game at the moment. The graphics are top notch.
Why everyone is crying about the controls? Controls are fine, i didn't encounter any problems and i play on death march. so learn to play and stop blaming the controls.

    so, why is it bad?

simple, what is the great world good for, if you only hit fast attacks, hard attacks and a roll every time...the fights NEVER change...you also dont get any xp for fights...they implemented a bestarium, but you don´t improve against a specific enemy if you fight him more often...
there is no real skill tree...even shooter like borderlands offer more in their skill trees.
So basicly, every fight from lvl1 to the end, is exactly the same...

also, they showed us extrem graphics! but the final game didn´t really look like that...especially the fire and the smoke don´t like any good.

the bar in the first town is the exact same as in the 2nd town...

there are a lot of bugs...

so, the witcher is a huge world with a lot of things, but the gameplay is just boring and never changes...and yes, i know there are "spells" but...in a RPG i excpect A LOT more from spells...

he can jedi mind read but has to find pans for old womens to get information...aha...

    i played it on a GTX980 with a I7 4790K.

Also i am finding the graphic very bad. Don't feel the deep of the distant view, can't feel the monsters movement when they going to attack, its nothing like Dark Souls or Skyrim in this matter. I liked previous 2 Witcher games more. this is only my opinion ofc. But the game is still worth the many as it is long and sometimes rewarding so yeah grab it. Oh, and the fights... 2 attacks for whole game is way to low to make me happy in an action type rpg. I wouldn't mind that in games like Neverwinter Nights or newest Pillars of eternity but when it comes to an action-rpg then proper action is required, and here the game fails again... Expand

It picks up nicely on the events of the previous two games which gives a feel of consistancy and immersion into the universe. I noticed that CDProjectRed even paid a lot of attetion to detail in 'recontruction' locations which was featured in previous installments of the series. Just one of the many little things that makes the game great.

Secondary quests are really fun, which is also quite unique. They are not simply all 'go fecth/ go kill" but are driven by interesting stories in their own right and even appears to weave into the main story and other secondary quests. Finally, the use of voice acting and cinematic/cut scenes is superb. You never feel like the developers got lazy and just texted it or made a half finished quest. Everything is kept at the highest quality.

There are a couple of glitches here and there - graphical oddities and so on. And But the overall quality more than makes up for this.

But that is my personal tastes and taking that into account I still really like this game, which says a lot. But on the down side there are just parts of the story that bore me and leave me clicking through the endless lines.
A great game that requires a strong computer, but delivers breath-taking graphics. Great story that will keep you riveted to your chair for hours, with a lots of great happy and sad moments. A simple combat system that is a thousand times better than The Witcher (which brings back a shudder.)
This is the game that everyone loves, even though there are a hundred and one minor issues. Pointing most of them all out is often met with a laugh and shrug (in a humorous way) and a mention of how overly critical you are. So here is the double standard list of the small and very numerous bugs and quirks can quickly grate.
    1) Having struggled through the frustration of the 100th ignition of a candle instead of opening that chest/bookshelf/etc. How could a company not see that, where are CD Projekt RED’s Game testers, shoot them all! And why does a chest need an unlit candle on it in the first place?
    2) The fact that Geralt can roll up mountains, still makes me laugh. While a fall of 5-10 feet is met with instance death. This lead to the discovery that Roach can jump from mountains, falling 50+ feet without the same death response. Further leading to the discovery that rolling up mountains and jumping off with roach is actually good fun.
    3) Navigating at speed can make it difficult to get Roach or Geralt through doorways. Extremely annoying and awkward in towns and tight places.
    4) The ends of potions that generally serve no purpose. Granted I made the decision of getting the Cat Armour which boosted my attack power ludicrously. To the extend I was able kill a wolf with a single death punch. Early on you realise you can get by with slashing and use of the signs, using potions/bomb seems like an over extravagant extra.
    5) The silly notion that you can repair your weapons in combat but can’t use oils… well that was an oversight!
    6) Overly critical … told you, but at the end of the game it all adds up.

But the crux of the matter, if this was EA, I would be more relentless … shoddy this … rubbish that. But this is a small company that is starting up. But that got me thinking, while they are still small by compassion, they have been around for years (Witcher, and REDengine, came out in 2007) and they boast around 230 employees. So half of me wonders why in the third release of this franchise they haven’t sorted these things out yet? It just seems a less polished turd than EA would normally dish out. And maybe it’s a bit unfair to compare them, though at this point I am still willing to give them the benefit of doubt.
None of the above is an attack on how good this game is and it was well enjoyed… Expecting great things for CyberPunk2077 (and hoping that they will decide to release it.)
But the perhaps the biggest shocker is that Ciri isn’t the only one with Elder Blood … Equine haired, able to teleport … Roach looks very suspicious!

Looks and plays well even on an old graphics card like HD 7850 - I'm sure better hardware would provide awesome look. The music, sounds, voices complement the excellent reception of the game.

There are flaws here and there: sporadic crash, sometimes camera impedes combat, no equipment chest - but they are not significant having so much fun of this game.

I'm impressed by the way which CDP passed: from Baldur's Gate localisation to creation the best RPG game I ever played.

First off, I have been playing games since the mid 80's. I have never written a review, and I am fairly picky when it comes to games that I would recommend to someone.

That said, this is far and away the best game I have ever played. The story, the options, the graphics (on ultra) the sounds (I was shocked at simple things in the sound), the animations... the emotion behind the story.

The racial and social struggles, the politics, the invasion from outside.... All amazing.

This is now my gold standard for which all other games will be judged. Which means I am setting myself up for much disappointment I am afraid. To CD Projekt RED I would like to say I am so amazed at the job you did with a smaller sized team and low budget (by comparison to other games this size). You all have created something beyond what can be simply called a "game".

For those who haven't played, you are missing out on true art.

Fantastic. It is difficult to fault this game. For a world of such size in my entire playthrough I encountered not one single bug or glitch... hugely impressive. The main story at the very end becomes a tad tedious as just when you think its over you have to go and do something else.. but it was rewarding to see all of my choices throughout the game come out at the very end - and some of them I regretted.

Graphically it is a shadow of it's former self from what we first saw at its reveal, but I can forgive it for that simply because it is such an epic game.

The combat, crafting, loot and other intertwined systems all work exceptionally well - though I do wish that geraldt could carry more items as I often would loot too much... but perhaps thats more of a reflection on me than the game =).

One little gripe I did have was that character models were used and re-used quite often... but in the scheme of things it was minor.

It runs at a silky smooth almost always locked 60fps at FHD and I was able to easily maintain 50fps at 2k if I chose to.

This is a remakable game I could not recommend more. Any fan of the series should check it out.

One of the best games I've ever played. It's not perfect gameplay-wise. (I do not understand how could they make inventory management even more tedious than in The Assassins of Kings.) But every single flaw that I can come up with, fades when I think of what Witcher 3 has accomplished.

I laughed, I cried, and I loved every moment. My first run was 68 hours and I felt like I only got through a portion of the content. This is one of the best games ever made, period.

Why, you may ask? First off, the writing. It is exceptional. There's one scene where I laughed for a solid 20 minutes. I would never have expected such consistent, witty, engaging dialogue from a game.

First off, the writing. It is exceptional. There's one scene where I laughed for a solid 20 minutes. I would never have expected such consistent, witty, engaging dialogue from a game.

Second, the sound design. Exceptional music and solid voice work throughout.

Third, the world, quest and monster design. In such a massive game, repetitive witcher contracts and dull quests could have easily been the norm...but there wasn't a single monster contract that wasn't different, and there wasn't a single quest without a new and engaging story! It is easy to get lost in this world. Completionists will likely go grey before coming close to the end.

Fourth, the art design. I played this game on medium settings, and everything was beautiful.

The game isn't perfect. The biggest weakness is clunky control programming. There are plenty of times when character control is less than fluid. But this is a minor annoyance in such a polished, riveting game world.

    An extraordinary game. Thank you!

I was hooked from the first day and can't get enough of it. The story is captivating, the locations are immersing and there is so so much exploring today if one does not wish to blast through the main plot.

The combat system has improved from Assassins of Kings but to be honest, it is not too challenging. For every boss or high-level opponent there is a strategy one can use to defeat him/her/it without too much vitality loss. I'm only as far as Novigrad in the main story, but that's the impression I get so far; I can kill level 18-19 monsters quite easily while being a level 15 myself.

The Gwent card game is absolutely sick - I recommend it to any and all Wild Hunt owners.

One thing that plagues this game is one that is near-inevitable for games of this scope - bugs and glitches.
Several quests are impossible to complete (e.g. Fool's Gold, Empty Coop) and the movement (especially on horseback) can often be quite annoying. These, however, are just minor problems and do not detract from what is an excellent game and in my opinion, worth every penny of the 53EUR I paid for it.

P.S. 16 pieces of FREE DLC for all purchasers doesn't hurt either

I love open world games and the freedom they give to the player. The elder scrolls have long been my favourite series for this reason. There's a trade off insofar as open world risks unfocused main plot-lines and characters with insuficient depth. Does there need to be a trade off? Perhaps not, but I can't think of any obvious open world games where you have free exploration in a huge world as well as very strong characters and lots of depth to your interactions. I question whether the open world approach was either ncessary or the correct one. You create difficulties for yourself such as how to maintain the right level of difficulty throughout. The learning curve in TW 3 is excellent but the game becomes too easy by the end - and I have no particular talents as a gamer and was on the second highest difficulty. This is part and parcel of the open world approach where the player can go anywhere at any time and you have to be prepared for that as developers.

In doing so, I entirely acknowledge how brilliant the world they crafted was and how much pleasure it has given lots of people. The problem is for those of us coming off the back of the previous witcher games, Wild Hunt simply couldn't offer comparable plot strength, politcal intrigue, or interesting character interactions.

Its exceptionally brave to change a thing which is not broken - indeed the Witcher 1 and 2 were incredibly successfull and we got to know many characters very well. i have heard it said that it was always the goal of Wild Hunt to produce a highly personal storyline rather than such a political one. I understand but have to question the logic of such an apolitical storyline following so hotly on the heels of two incredibly complex, fascinating, political plots which set the third game up so well. I don't understand the sense in setting up the third game as well as they did if they always intended to detour off into such a contrastingly different approach. I myself have also red the books and never thought the whole plot around Ciri & the elder blood was at all well crafted.

I mentioned the lack of focus issue... in Wild Hunt there is a certain quest where you embark upon an assassination attempt of a certain important person.... this should have incredible impact upon the main story or the world generally - but when it happens, it does not feel that anything important has transpired - it simply feels like yet another side quest and it's a huge anti-climax if I'm being fully honest.

...despite my personal feelings there is still an incredible game here as most sensible people will acknowledge.
The world is huge and utterly beautiful.
Crafting is a very deep process as is alchemy
There is so much diffferent equipment to disover and so many quests to be found throughout the world
    Combat is improved
You get to visit Kaer Morhen again!

You will have an amazing time playing this game but it will leave you feeling a bit empty when you complete it - you may be left wishing for just a little extra.

My final reflection would be this - Wild Hunt has hundreds and hunreds of quests... TW 1 and 2 had a tiny fraction of this. Did it matter? Not to me.

My feeling is that who cares about scale and quantity if the quality is right. less can be more, in art as in life, and I wonder whether Open World was really the right approach for this already hugely sucessfull series.

First of all, just got a brand new computer and the game looks great. In my opinion the graphics are 9.5/10. however, after reading other reviews and talking to friends, they say the textures and environments get recycled a lot, which if true would change my score (I uninstalled long before being bored with the
    graphics of the game)

    Major cons:
The CONTROLS and MOVEMENT for this game are downright unplayable. The main character is extremely clunky in ALL areas of gameplay. my first thought is that this game would play well on a console controller but mouse and keyboard is just sad.

CUT SCENES are noticeably too long. every single one of them. and there are TONSSSS of cutscenes.

    Combat is pathetic.
generally consists of pressing a target selector key that highlights over your enemy. once locked on your character has their movements on a track with the targeted enemy. if an additional enemy comes from the side or behind you (and they ALWAYS do) , you take a hit and it HURTS. attacking consists of left clicking and having your character do a huge lunging attack that leaves you super vulnerable. it cant be canceled? you can't really aim your swings. you just click and swing. also, all abilities and swings have a noticeable delay in activation time.
you basically have 3 modes of attack for the first 10 hours of gameplay , 2 of which are completely ineffective.

the character customization in this game is stone age.
you can chose from fast swords slow swords crossbow and BASIC magic.
crossbows are one of 4 possible skill categories to chose from and it does virtually 0 damage and is 0% entertaining to use. skill credits earned go into skills that raise attack bonus and effectiveness, no cool abilities or skill tree, just pick your weapon out of the 4 and mindlessly put all your points down that skill "tree"(column)
there are very limited and uninteresting spells to choose from, and switching spells in combat is really a drag.

the alchemy system is tedious and annoying to use but has potential

the story is quite average. i want to rate the story lower but they definitely tried to make it really good. all the cutscenes remind me of many of the popular HBO series with slow paced but deep and profound character development. however, the execution is just TOO boring. Your main character is so 'ho-hum'.

difficulty balance is all over the place.
you use your "witcher sense" for EVERYTHING. you will go around right clicking every 4 seconds to see if there is a glowing object such as a lootable chest or quest item. its VERY repetitive.

it totally feels like this game was made specifically for console. the combat seems intuitively catered to a controller style game. this pc port was extremely poorly executed in the mechanics department.

94/100 metascore!? wtf. please wake up.
this is a 4/10 or worse on the PC.

The game is well optimised on PC, I'm using a GTX 970 and play the game on Ultra (with distance detail down a notch) and never goes below 45FPS, usually maintaining 55ish at 1080p. The sound is also superb with some of the soundtrack sending shivers down my spine, it's that good. The voice acting is also top notch and believable, better than most films I've seen actually.

The only reason this game gets a 9 rather than a 10 is the combat and controls are not great, but this was the case with the other games as well. In my opinion you play a Witcher game for its story and game world but it would of been nice to see a well executed combat system.

It was a monumental achievement of staggeringly aching beauty, the Witcher III stands proudly as the greatest video game of all time, regardless of genre. Geralt’s final, epic ride, is the high water-mark by which all future games will be judged and found lacking. Indeed, it’s only disadvantage is that it completely ruins every other title on the market right now by nailing every single aspect of game design with almost supernatural clarity and perfection. You do not play as a messiah, the chosen one, the hero, instead, you're living the world through the eye of Geralt of Rivia. A character who has been shaped by multiple stories and events. Playing as a character however, oddly made you pay attention more to your surroundings. I care deeply about the rich cast of supporting characters of the game that I can tell you in details on why Nilfgaard Empire advanced towards Temeria in the first place. I can show you exactly why Vernon Roche insisted on leading the guerrilla fighters and ended up turning against his own King Radovid to save Temeria. It's a complex entangled world that you can't help to be immersed and be a part of as you go through your journey in this title. Expand

This is one of the best videogames what i have played for last few years. Big open world which is interested to explore, amazing storyline, great graphics, every side quest has his own story. I am sorry that Wild Hunt is the last part of witcher's adventures. CD Projekt RED created a real masterpiece and i want say to them BIG THANKS for this game.

Close to 100 hours into the game.
Some minor problems with controls are easily offset by everything else in the game: the storyline and overall playability is fantastic. Haven't spent so much time on a single game in a long while (not counting MMOs of course). First game I have purchased a DLC for. What else can I say... Boobs!

The Witcher 3 is massive. Possibly THE largest open world game to date and it is filled from top to bottom with content. Every side quest is fully voiced and at times even bleed into the main story. These are the best sidequests I have ever seen. That's difinitive. The best.

-Characters from previous games make their appearences here with choices from previous games making large changes to the world. If you haven't played the previous games then don't worry the story is surprisingly easy to get into. The Story is great so I'm not going to spoil any of it for whoever goes and buys this game. It must be said that it is the highlight of the game though.

Graphics despite having a large downgrade for console performance are still very good. You know that when there's an option to have every hair in the world have advanced physics no expense was spared. But if you were planning on having max settings this I will have to dissapoint you. Even with a powerfull PC I could still not get above 50fps on the lowest settings.

-Gameplay is notably less clunky then in previous games but I think it should be reviewed on its own. It is still clunky. When playing the secondary character you will understand that this was intentional. The character is an old man of 100 something years. Even so I would have still enjoyed a much more fluid movement.

    Cons:
-The horse. This may seem stupid but the horse is extremely important to get you places so it should have been mostly bug free and such. No. It is by far the buggiest and worst AI in the whole game. In a game with excellent AI the horse stands out as a wet piece of excrement in an otherwise almost flawless system.

-There are also a host of bugs throughout the game that are almost inherent to the open world genre. Being Cdprojecktreds first venture into open world with such a small team makes this a bitter pill to swallow but still exceptable.

    -Load times, nuff said

That's it. No really my only problems with the game are the horse, the load time and the bugs (which knowing CDprokekt will get patched). In a game this expansive if that doesn't tell you something then you might need help.

Final verdict. 10 out of 10
My problems with this game were few and far between and it is well worth your time and money. There are a host of things I didn't mention in this review because it is already extremely long but rest assured that they are all positive. This coupled with CDprojekts' policy of free DLC (yes you can have your horse armor and keep it too) The game soon will be worth this rating. but as of yet with many bugs unfixed it is still a 9.5. By the time of the enhanced edition (which will probably be free) release I'm sure that if I could I would be handing out an 11 out of ten.
So Whaddya waiting for. Go buy this game. Now.

I think the most meaningful thing I can share is what is most meaningful to me in the time I spend in enthralled abnegation.

The little things. While the game has massive and detailed set pieces, a vast landscape and expansive writing that could never be overpraised, it's the infinite little touches that amount to so much more for me. There are hundreds of nods to minor characters, quests, and choices in previous games, subtle humour that is never out of place, references to all levels of game culture, subtle views into the souls of the characters through minor narrative elements made evermore compelling by beautiful voice acting, and constant reminders that the world in which you adventure is truly alive. From the tail slaps of the blue wales in the Skellige Isles to the uniqueness of each hidden ruin. Every thing has a story, a personality, a life of it's own, and it's all worth exploring.

There is no effort needed in falling for a true labour of love. A love so evidently shared by every level of CDPR's team. From playtester to CEO, there is not an individual there that does not possess the company wide unity of vision needed to produce a game this beautiful.

Thank you CDPR for reminding us what a lovingly crafted triple A game can be.

The Witcher is a series you might remember by book or game, but you need not play or read them to get the "full" experience of three. You'd be more knowledgeable about things, characters, factions and etcetera, as would be my recommendation since they're very good, but not necessary.

The graphics are fantastic as you've might have heard.. the amount of hype and all. The combat is generally well balanced, favouring those well prepared: it can be frustrating if you're not - especially on higher difficulties where the wrong step leaves you dead. You can always die if you make a mistake. It comes packed with an incredible amount of things to do, from simple two step fetch quests to much longer multi-quest, well, err, quests.

Gameplay can be deep as you want it to be. You can prepare as much as you want for your fights, making potions for healing, damage, or other effects, bombs which have different uses against monsters, as well as blade oil to buff damage towards said specific types of monsters. Or you can run in and get dead. Your choice.

Story? I'll leave that up to you. It's best to be in the dark about this game; all I'll say is the game deals in grey, don't expect happy rainbows and kittens: the choices you will make may not be favorable, and that is what makes it so good.

Lastly, gwent. Personally, this is a fantastic part of the game I never thought I'd enjoy. It's a turn-based strategy card game. It's awesome.

Will go down in history as the moment Geralt of Rivia came to life and slayed the monsters of over-hyped broken games, leaving those developers get their **** together and make something actually good.

Heh. Unlikely. I'm hopeful as a dandelion though.

The world, the mood, characters and their strories - it's all so well written… I LOVE this game. And now I am so sad, that this is an end…

I'm Polish and I loved Witcher 1 - I played it 4 times. I didn't love the Witcher 2. I completed it once, and tried to play again two times, but it just didn't drag me in. I've read all the Witcher books twice and I loved them more than any other literature at that time (before I even heard of the first Witcher game). So you can say I am a fanboy… But I don't care if you share my point of view – I just experienced this game – and it was all I could have ever dreamed of. I just had to come here and share it. Yes it has annoyances and I hope they will be able to polish it – even if it doesn't matter so much now – just for the sake of this great game, because it deserves it. Now I think I'm going to cry for a little while, and then I have to pull myself together and go back to my life.

On top of the strong character building, the game nails world building. The occasional sidequest foreshadows future events, but even standalone quests feel like their own mini stories. The sense of place of this game is secondary only to the likes of Bethesda RPG titles. All that being said, the game is far from flawless. The tightly focused linear narrative in Witcher 2 is not present in the Witcher 3 due to the intrinsic properties of an open world experience. For me, I got overwhelmed with the amount of content in the game. The gameplay overall is much easier to approach than the first two games, but responsiveness is very wonky. Despite these minor setbacks I think the game is one of the finer games in the RPG genre as well as the open world one. 9/10 Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. What I liked:
    - Quests except for a few are very interesting and fun. That's fetch quests made right.
    - Whether it be the world or it's characters, it's simply the most beautifully crafted game I've played to date.
    - Branching paths for replay value.
    - Engaging story from start to finish.
    - Superb voice acting.
    - Ciri knows how to fight with a sword better than Geralt
    - There's a bit of comedy and lots of easter eggs to make you smile every once in a while
    - Free DLC's!!!

    What I disliked:
    - Combat albeit capable of the getting the job done is just infuriatingly CLUNKY and unsatisfying. A downgrade from the Witcher 2 where Geralt's sword skills were far superior in every way. Before, Geralt would execute a lunging thrust or a spinning slash that EFFECTIVELY closes the gap and would actually connect. Now his regular attacks will make him spin around 90% of time regardless of how near or far the target is and end up missing 50% of the time, much like the UNSKILLED hero wannabe from Risen 3... Also geralt's recovery from a stun is just too long, must be his age...
    - Geralt's controls out of combat is very clunky as well. While it feels like he is stuck in mud during combat, it is very loose and slippery during exploration.
    - The horse much like Geralt feels out of control.
    - Boat exploration, combat and water activities are mind-numbingly cumbersome and unrewarding. You mainly find junk from underwater chests. Underwater combat is just a matter of pressing a button when an enemy is nearby for a 1 hit kill. Now imagine that clunky combat in the narrow confines of a boat...
    - With clunky unsatisfying combat and extremely low exp gain from killing monsters, you're better off ignoring them if you are not short on crafting materials
    - Very few monster variations. Although the bestiary wants you to believe that there are lots of unique monsters in the game, they're nothing more than RESKINS......... and how many of these monsters are capable of back jumping to swiftly avoid your slow inaccurate but flashy spinning attacks....
    - It takes too long before you can actually make an effective build since exp gain is very low, skill slots are very limited and gaining them between level ups is far apart.... Requiring you to put a set number of skill points before the next tier of a specific skill is unlocked also results in wasting points to skills you don't want... By the time you get all the skill slots and the skills you want, there's very little thing left to do in it's massive world. Pretty much the time to stop playing the game when you get your end game build... Would have been nice to have a NEW GAME PLUS...
    - The massive world becomes barren once you have completed all points of interest.
    - Almost all of Ciri's quests is about running away from fights with infinite spawning enemies.
    - Missing characters that were supposedly affected by decisions you made in the witcher 2.
    - Ignite/extinguish candles.....

Despite the game being subpar in essential areas like controls and combat, it is playable. If you have followed Geralt's adventure from the first or even the 2nd title, it'd be a shame to pass up on his last one...

I've spent 50 hours and just got on island of skellige.. Its a very big world, very detailed terrain and a little 'sex' scenes here and there, which to me adds realism to the game. My advice is to not play this game more than 3 hours straight, else you get headaches, eye exhaustion and skipping dialogues..

Although, im yet to give this a 10/10, but perhaps maybe 9/10 .. The game mechanism is simple. Finish your mission and move on. Collect rewards & items, upgrade yourself, learn spells etc and of course, explore!. What i like about the game is that, you get to choose how you want to end to be. Be carefull what you respond to characters, it WILL affect later on in the game. So be yourself, trust me, you will enjoy it. Ive finish the game, though i must admit, this game is the only game that almost make me tear/cry, damn .. The story itself, makes you feel like your geralt of rivia!, lol. You'll crave this game even more after you have finish the main quest. Cant wait for the next witcher series.

Another note, It can get a little boring/tiring overtime, because its 'so deep' that it requires a lot of energy put into the game. thats why i suggest not playing it more than 3 hours. But nonetheless, the game deserve to be one of the BEST RPG currently. Im waiting for Fallout 4, should be a good platform to compare. This game will definitely set the bar for other developers to follow. Other things that i like is that some DLC's are free, yes hear me right!.. And also try to get the expansion pass, that will add another 30 hours of gaming time.

If you have a lot of time, and loves games like fallout 3, gta 4/5, far cry, then this game is for you. If you're not into detailed RPG games, and you want simple hacking and slashing kinda games. then this game will bore you within hours.

My verdict 9 out of 10 .. excellent game but not perfect yet. I wish it could give me 200 hours of playing time. Btw, keyboard and mouse is sufficient. You dont really have to get a game controller.

Edited* = I finished the game within 85 hours and currently at level 35.

Hands down one of the greatest games I have ever played. I struggled to get more than an hour into Witcher 2, and as such basically ignored this game during it's development, but I am so so glad I didnt ignore it for much longer.

If you liked Skyrim, but though it could have done with a more immersive story, then get this game.

Geralt of Rivia, also known as white wolf along with Triss and Yen was a beautiful story line with scenic picturesque, excellent melody and intense fight scenes and I loved the game very much. It took me 8 days 6 hours 4 minutes 27 seconds to complete the game in all. So a total of 198 hours game play which is a lot to reach level 34. I have completed 220 quests out of which 14 quests were partly failed and one quest which was completed earlier was a failed quest after that specific quest was complete it was Cave of Dreams. Seven quests of Gwent game and five quests of horse races were not completed by me so in total there were 232 all quest including main, side and treasure hunts. I have downloaded the games original soundtrack and the music is fantastic. I love the game very much. Expand

First things first. 9/10 because 10/10 is impossible. There is always something to improve. Period.

I really was hyped for this game although I did not play the precedessors. I bought myself a new gaming rig right now so I could enjoy this new release in it's full glory and to hard test my new hardware. I had to wait for my new rig and for the games key until two weeks after release

I really was hyped for this game although I did not play the precedessors. I bought myself a new gaming rig right now so I could enjoy this new release in it's full glory and to hard test my new hardware.

I had to wait for my new rig and for the games key until two weeks after release and read a view reviews here about it. I got to say I tend to read the negative reviews first to get an idea of what might be not so pleasant about the game. Those negative Nancys got me for quite some time and I first was grateful I did not pay extra for the game - it came with my video card.

Those claimed down points were mostly grafics, controls and character development.

All I can say to this is: What the **** is wrong with people?!

Jesus! This brings back my personal memories of Gothic 2 where I was drawn in as a teenager for weeks.

Despite my nostalgic feel I can only say this game is top notch in every aspect.

Every time I launch this game I am overwhelmed by it's visual beauty - I stop often and just walk (!) through villages or with a torch in a dark forest at night to experience this great atmosphere. Just awesome. I normally do not feel the need to spend more time than necessarry in games so I fast travel or run in villages and cities but not here.

Concerning the controls all I can say is that it is nothing new but far from being "obnoxious" or "awful". I am playing at the hardest difficulty which gives the game another feel of realism and authenticism since health is only restored with the potion or with food. Fights feel also a lot more challenging because blind rushing into enemies and blade flurring serves you nothing but ending dead soon after. You got to plan, you have to dodge, roll, break guards and use your signs to overcome enemies, be them beast or man.
The controls always feel right to he point and accurate enough to fight tactically. Maybe the other reviewers have no talent in general for games...

Last but not least the story. What are people expacting here? I may just beat 25% of the game yet but in my opinion it is a decent dark fantasy story with interesting characters and entertaining side stories.
You cannot reinvent the wheel and it is no stand alone or new story beginning, it is a sequel of a series based on books. No wonder you cannot play as an old wizard killing enemies with fire bolts or a she elf archer. The protagonist is Geralt of Rivia a professional Monster slayer and swordsman. You know this before playing the game so it's no surprise you cannot create a new character or play as an archer.
You either like Geralt and his style or not. End of discussion.

To sum it up: One of the best games I played in my 18 years of gaming. Hands down.

A terrible game with a boring lead protagonist and clunky gameplay. I can't recommend this game to any fan of real roleplaying games. About the only positive I could offer is that the graphics are fairly pretty, but that doesn't make for a fun game.

The Witcher 3 says no to all of this - it's a great game with a fully realized setting, it's a joy to play, the business model behind it treats its customers like human beings, and it delivers a story that finally hits the tone of the books.

Probably the best open-world RPG ever made, but it still falls prey to some of the genre's worst traps.

I've made it pretty clear that it's hardly a flawless game, but that doesn't change the fact that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is something pretty bloody special and you should absolutely play it.
