I have absolutely nothing against female nudity in video games, but if that's your main selling point, then it becomes a problem. It's the exact same reason why Cyberpunk sold over 13 million copies. They said game has naked females and automatically every nerd ever pre-ordered it. It's almost pathetic how easy it is to sell your game. Just put naked females into it and it can be emptiest, most buggy game possible, but it had female nudity and sells over 13 million regardless. That's why games are dying, thanks to companies like CDproject. They over promote their games with sex and nudity, while actual game/gameplay is extremely outdated. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I spent over 100 hours in this game on hardest difficulty. Completing every side quest and all DLC content. And I hated this game .
First of , just like in many fantasy games , it kind of creates this premise that you(the character that you play, not really you in real life) are special guy whose actions will change the course of the world or how the world perceives you, it doesn't, it wont . You just yet another witcher on a job ... the whole main quest "the princess is in another castle" is just infuriatingly frustrating . You run around like a chicken completing fetch quests to no avail until you complete enough of them to finally find the princess ...
The combat gets repetitive and stale very fast , in the first couple of hours . Once you find your style - sword , magic or poisons or a mix between and kind of figure out where you want to take your character there isn't much development in that regard at all after level 5-7 , it gets boring quick . Dodge ,slash , use a sign , repeat . . . .

Voice acting is nice , but it alone does not warrant all the hype this game is still getting .

Skyrim was my first TES game, and I absolutely loved it! It's gotta be the best non-MMO RPG I have ever played if you look past the bugs (which we kinda have to do if we're going to recommend the game as the bugs are temporary annoyances compared to all the fun you will have).
You don't have to be a hipster or anything, just be honest and ask yourself if Skyrim really doesn't deserve the throne for best RPG ever, because no individual can make that decision, it's the gaming community as a whole, and Skyrim sold incredibly well because it's universally appealing to everyone in the gaming community of those who liked it.

In my opinion the only game that can beat Skyrim, is a new TES game

    - I taked my time to read some reviews and as others have said it feels more like watching a movie than actually playing a videogame, there are even small side quest that have like 6 cutscenes,,, you only have to pick a dialogue option and walk a bit.

-The combat is also very limited, you can't jump, you can't use stealth and there are only 5 spells, so you pretty much have to fight the same style through all the game, so the combat gets very boring and repetitive after a while, even worse if you decide to do another playthrough.

-The weapons are also uninspired, and the crossbow is one of the worst weapons i've used on a videogame, it goes from doing almost no damage to one-hit kill the same monsters if you are under water,it doesn't make any sense

-The story was also forgettable, nothing i haven't seen in others games, you pretty much are the world savior, people complained about this type of stories in others games but in this game they decided that the story was great, wich is incomprehensible.

But the worst part of this game is the open world design, aside of good graphics the open world feels very empty, compared to for example, Skyrim, cdproject chosed quantity over quality, there are much more npcs but 99% of the npcs just curse and spit, they don't talk with you and don't add anything to the game, in skyrim every npc was unique in some way, and they had something to say or even a quest related. i guess that cdproject knew that the open world was too empty so they decided to put a mark on the few npc's that have something to say or a quest to give you, wich makes exploration pointless since you already know where you have to go and with who you have to talk every time you get to a new town or city.

-Other huge problem in this open world is that everything feels too scripted, theres no random events, so every playthrough is going to be the same aside the choices you make in certain points of the main quest or side quests, so the open world is pretty much just a barren land to get through your next quest

-The dungeons are also too samey, in Skyrim every dungeon was different and had some story, item, or quest related to it, instead on the witcher 3 most of the dungeons are just small caves with a monster to hunt and nothing else

-Aside from novingrad and maybe skellige port every town or city is copypasted and as i have said because of the npcs system that cdproject chosed, most of those "hubs" don't have a single npc to talk to, the npcs are just walking around repeating the same words or making spitting sounds when you try to talk with them, very sad

The combat is terrible, dodges can be spammed to effectively never be hit, sword range is atrocious, the end of your blade's hit box is about a foot shorter than your blade, and in general the combat is neither fun nor rewarding.

The story is incredibly shallow and boring, which is to be expected out of such a simple premise for a story. A contributing part to the boredom is how long it takes to get into the meat of the game, 15 hours isn't enough to even begin to have fun with the story.

Even the characters are boring, a prime example being Geralt. Geralt's personality revolves solely around having a cool voice and being sarcastic in the same manner as a middle schooler. I believe Geralt represents what CD Projekt Red storyboard developers wish they were, and in this manner, his character is incredibly shallow.

The UI is atrocious, way too many redundant menus, and interacting with them is incredibly janky and just detracts from an already non-user-friendly game.

The controls, just like the UI, are awful. The general lack of maneuverability is showcased by the input lag involved with moving that makes any amount of walking a chore.

But hey, at least the graphics look nice!

If it weren't enough that the games writing and characters are out of some odd fan fiction, the dialogue moves slowly and lacks choice, character control is oddly primitive, combat like an arcadey, spammy hack and slash, the skill system bloated and unnecessary and the environments are boring and samey, not invoking the slightest bit of curiosity or wonder and the much touted feature - the graphics - are technically strong, testament to the quality of the asset libraries they are from, but somehow hard to look at, suffering from poor, or perhaps no creative direction. I could perhaps forgive the game for some of these problems if had at least one redeeming quality but there are none.. even the menus are an unwieldy mess. At first i think immersion in this game is a joke. You are coming in to people's houses and steel all the food, booze and other valuable equipped right from their noses. It's just ridiculous! They should at least react somehow to that. Even good old Gothic has been done better about this.
Being a Medieval-Batman isn't that fun either. Geralt is just too perfect, with no faults whatsoever. It just feels so fake and maybe it is the reason it was so hard for me to like him. Besides, you can't be anyone you want here. You are being you sitting on your butt and creating Geralt's legend and his ego. I don't think it is what RPGs are about.

The story itself, that supposed to be the strongest part of this game, is jut meh.
Geralt is looking for his so-called daughter, and at som point when her realize that Wild hunt is after her, insed of freaking out he's got time for taking 1182151/!@#"!%1 witcher contracts, wiping out all that monster nests (even not being paid for that which is wrong story-wise), doing stupid fetch quests etc. Bah! He even goes to vineyards to have a lazy nap. It's just perfectly average story, badly balanced where you can totally lost the interest of it. The fact the game tells you exactly where to go and what to do doesn't help, it just makes it mindless slasher at some point.

The graphics are OK but the landscapes doesn't feel that good. The woods are so shaky, artificial and dead (except being filled in with monsters), it doesn't feel any good exploring it.
In W1 & W2 everything was so unique and looked nice, made with attention to details. Here we have copy-paste boring villages with some copy-paste villagers that all look the same except different clothing. Honestly, sandbox style just doesnt fit Witcher setting at all.

Obviously, the combat. It just not accurate enough. You can be hit by enemy being few meters away. Besides that, all fights comes to dodging and repetitive slashing from behind. Throw some Quen barrier and you are ready to go for entire game.

Conversations are taking ages. They should be more brief, like in Dark Souls for example, where all the dialogues was live and you could quit them just simply moving out from that character. How immersive was that! Here we are forced to watch how people breath, when they sit, thinking about something pause etc. It's just so overdone, make no sense like eating a hot dog and having champagne with it. Even more because there is no philosophical content in their speeches. Its all very shallow here (nothing to do for Planescape Torment fans).

Music is the only thing i have no complains about.

Absolutely not a game for me, i love the classic rpgs above all, so if you are a fan of those you might feel bit disappointed (or a little bit more than that).

So I've started exploring the small events in the map and the side quests. Those were a bit amusing, but nothing better than what it's possible to experience in any average RPG. Still, it was a pain in the butt that the game forces me to use those impractical and uninspired spells to defeat some specific monsters.

Then, I went to the main quests, and I got extremely annoyed by the favor-for-a-favor element that guides you to endure unmeaningful tasks to move on through the story. Finally, when you get to the big city, my motivation to keep playing got absolutely destroyed, because of the lack of things to do there. I really tried but I can't feel any emotion for any character of this game due to the boring main plot. To finish it, I even skipped some cut-scenes because everything got really tiresome.

I was expecting something like Dragon Age or even better, but you can hardly interact with any npc in the game, outside of the quests and those boring dialogues without meaningful options, which makes it hard to get emotionally involved.

The story is decent enough, but TW3 fails on the most important point: It's not fun to play, it's basically an interactive movie, not a game. 2/10.

Story is boring. All side quests are same (ubisoft formule). Charachters are annoying. Main quest designs are almost bad as side quests. Boss fights are not really boss fights. Is this really a rpg game ? Where is rpg elements ? 0/10. One of the worst games i have ever played. Play classic rpgs instead that fan-service game.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The game is extremely overrated.

First, the game is meant to be "standalone" according to the dev, therefore nullifying many story hooks that were made in the previous installments.

However, the game would occasionally use deus machina to solve problems from the books, despite it's standalone. It's rather convenient not required to answer for the early story hooks but "stay true" to the books.

Then, the player will go through "inevitable defeat" like the previous two games.

For example, the protagonist has to find NPC A to find NPC C, but in order to find A you'll have to talk to x amount of npcs. BUT after you talk to all those npcs, NPC B would have solved where NPC A is, therefore nullifying everything you just did.

The game forbids "money exploiting" by creating immersion breaking monsters to hunt you, instead of using the already existent level scaled guards to fight you.

The pathing is poor. It's one of those you've unlimited time to reach an event which is supposed to be emergent, just like Oblivion. Your daughter is being hunted therefore you should go and fetch pans and sheeps and girlfriends and whoreson and herbs and items in river for npcs.

The world is in dire danger! It's near the doom of everything! Quick, help me decorate my place. The horrible pathing gets ridiculous at times.

The boss of the story has 12 lines and all of his words are prude, but he is supposed to be intelligent. While a supposed emotionless Geralt has 1,000 times more lines than the boss, and most lines from Geralt are mumbling to himself.

There are so many wrongs with the game like badly implemented loot system close to pre diablo 3. Since random loots are boring and unexciting while crafting is most of the time worse than items in shops., you’ll just use the few sets and stick with those.

What I've said is just the surface, there are so much more wrongs with the game like extreme basic combats, laughable falling damage from 2 foot, fake open world that you jump "1 foot upward" then Geralt dies bugs.

The characters also felt written oriented to angst teenagers, at times Geralt’s sarcastic remarks remind me of Japanese light novels written for 13~15 years old.

The story isn’t much better and drags on with mmo style quests, the go to A so he asks you to get to B, then B wants you to to fetch C kind quests which breaks immersion. And the world is even less interactive than Gothic 2!

And don’t let me start on the use your witcher sense to follow red routine chores. It’s fun for the first time but become tedious routine chores after 10 hours, and most quests are either made with fetch or witcher sense usages.

The game sure has high production value but it’s not much a good game imho. Well, at least Gwent game is somewhat fun.

Graphics, animations, sounds...are 10/10. Gameplay however is boring, repetitive and unoriginal.
Witcher movement and combat is clunky and quests are for the huge part all the same: get the quest, follow the red paint on the ground, kill the monster, go back to collect the reward.
Level up system... there's not even a slightest difference in gameplay whether you're level 1 or 30.

I played the first Witcher for a few hours before deciding, unequivocally, that the combat system was not quite as exciting or strategic as playing Pacman. I acknowledge the substance of the lore behind the series and I admire the philosophy of the CD Projekt Red team, which is why, after hesitating for so long, I decided that I'd give the Witcher 3 a whirl.

After five hours, I've abandoned the Witcher 3 and just won't bring myself to trust CD Projekt Red again.

The combat, again, essentially requires dodging between groups of enemies or around single large ones and using the same repeated sword swings. The animations are different but the action is the same. While there are options to use some abilities, the fundamentals of the combat remain identical and very inane. There are no tactical elements to combat like you would have in a turn based RPG like Baldur's Gate, or RTS games like Starcraft, or stealth-action games like Deus-Ex or Dishonored, or even FPS/Third person fantasy games like the Elder Scrolls. The combat is repeatedly to run into a fight and dodge around with perfect timing and not get hit, which is the gameplay mechanic of a cheap, pump-and-dump console game... and such a waste of the Witcher's content.

The flaws of combat essentially ruined the game for me. While the story is interesting, I can (and just have) read it on Wikipedia in 5 minutes to skip the drama (though I'm sure much time was put into the voice acting and animations). Without the drive to improve the character, who (like all RPGs) expresses himself primarily through combat, the side content has no meaning and the main story-line becomes only that - a story-line.

I love that they tried to make something so epic in scale of integrated content and take the RPG to somewhere where it hasn't been before but this is still a game and the action in the Witcher is flawed at the core and has remained so through the series. My experience with the Witcher is so frustrating and annoying precisely because I want so badly to enjoy the game but can't get past its most basic flaw - the gameplay is terrible. The pursuit of a massive library of beautiful content is not an excuse for making a bad game.

Also, as a post-script, the merchant system doesn't make any sense. You can sell a sword and not buy a piece of bread that heals 20% of your health... perhaps this is supposed to be how things are but I find myself totally ignoring merchants entirely. Furthermore, the crafting system has an incredibly steep learning curve, without any hint as to what makes sense to do or not, which is exacerbated by the nonsensical merchant system.

And as a post-post-script, I really hate that I will not be able to convince myself to spend money on Cyberpunk 2077.

Universal acclaim for this game is something I will NEVER understand. I suspect that most who give this game a positive review are casual gamers unfamiliar with what a true RPG is, or simply it's a matter of being caught up by the incredible aesthetics, which the Witcher 3 has in spades.

It is a gorgeous looking game, at least on a high-end PC. Another positive is the story. It's heart-touching at times.

    BUT...

The Witcher 3 suffers from serious faults.

The role-playing is shallow (and sometimes non-existent, like when Geralt is forced to break his moral code). Sometimes, decisions are wrongly reflected and other times, not reflected at all. Most of the game is filler, meaning the majority of playing-time is consumed side-quests that have no impact at all on the main story or even Geralt. Worse, however, is that the side-quests use the same formula. Trust me when I say that once you've done one side-quest, you have pretty much done them all.

The game also lacks replayability. The ultimate end is determined by a handful of decisions that come in short order following the Battle at Kaer Morhen. Simplistic, to say the least, but the true offense is that none of the decisions you make leading up to Kaer Morhen dictate any real change with that main battle or modify how the world reacts and treats Geralt. The game is always the same.

Other faults include crappy, oh-so-crappy game mechanics. Not that fluidity is required when fighting, mind you. This is perhaps the easiest game I've ever played. Even on the so-called "Death March", it's a walk in the park.

Do yourself a favor. If you're looking for that all too rarity of a game, meaning a cRPG set in an open world, check out Assassin's Creed Odyssey. It's not nearly as dumbed down and the decisions you make actually determine how the game reacts to you.

But better yet, go old school if you want a real cRPG experience. Check out Pillars of Eternity or the Baldur's Gate series, the last of which has been the king of all role-playing games since 2000.

Play the Witcher 3 if you don't want to think, if you don't wish to be challenged, and all you want to do is ride around on the most irritating horse in the world while perusing the lovely scenery. If you want an action game with considerable role-playing options, something that's intended for thinking adults, look at Witcher 1 and Witcher 2. Witcher 3 isn't even the best in its own series.

On the plus side : The gameplay is solid. The open universe is consistent, well structured and quite beautiful. The city of Novigrad is big, credible and alive.
However, beyond that, the game has a lot of weaknesses :
    - In terms of gameplay, from time to time you will control another character for fight scenes. Since the character is overpowered, there is no challenge and no interest to those sequences that you will suffer till the end of the game.
    - The difficulty in the game is not consistent and you will find hard press to kill one lonely Archgriffin when on the other side the end boss is a piece of cake.
    - The main plot is quite bad. It's not epic at all. It's not well written. It has no rhythm. The ending falls flat.
    - The secondary quest are for the most part not related to the main plot. A big parf ot them are generic and very mmorpg like. By the way, this mmorpg feeling is emphasized the equipment design. Differents colors for common items, magic items, rare tiems, relics, sets. The game boast a large panel of weapons and armors with no soul and identity.
    - A part of the secondary quests are there to bring back sides characters of the last episodes. However, most of the time it's a botch job and you can't help to feel that the characters are juste here to male a cameo.
    - Most of the side quests consiste of getting from point A to point B to deliver something then suffer a ton of dialog where your choices will not have a great impact on the game except deprived you of more dialogue if you choose to be roleplay and refuse to do something. So you will take every quest in fear of missing some great part of the story that will never come.
    - The game introduces a concept of points of interest that you can see on the map. At first you will find it interesting but it will quickly become repetitive and boring.
    - Your choices and decisions have less impact in this opus than in the previous ones. Only one choice has a true impact on you game experience. Some choices do impact the destiny of countries or side characters but you don't feel a big connection to what happened because it happens a the end, does not affect your experience when you play the game. You can affect the end of the game but the mechanics behind it is very silly (when you read some walkthrough to undesrtand why you get one ending instead of the other). However don't feel sad if you had the bad ending, go to youtube and watch the other endings like everyone else. Don't play the game again since it has no replay value like the previous one (The Witcher 2).
    - Some will object that a big part of the plot is the father/daughter relationship between the two main protagonists. But this relationship is so weak that its feels like a bad tvserie. It's also true for all the relationships between Geralt and his lovers.
    - Speaking of choices, you will discover that the choices you made in the previous episodes have no significant impacts on the story. There are only some cameo apparitions. The saddest part it that the whole "Temeria plotline" does not take into account "The La Valette heirs" and the choices you might have made in the previous episode.

Overrated is a good word for it. Advertising your product is important in this day and age, you need to promote, you need to make sure people know of you and what you've produced. That being said when marketing is employed to fabricate value when its job should be to simply promote an already valuable product, then you should know something is not right. The bugs abound.. half the way points that you have to do in order to progress bug out and this is 11 patches later. graphical errors abound.. god forbid you want to jump over a fence while running or on horse back..

i wanted to love this game sooo much, because i utterly love the first 2... the 3rd how ever is utter garbage rolled up in a garbage bag full or runny disgusting baby diapers. If only game company's would stop releasing alphas and calling it a completed game... /sigh

First of all, just got a brand new computer and the game looks great. In my opinion the graphics are 9.5/10. however, after reading other reviews and talking to friends, they say the textures and environments get recycled a lot, which if true would change my score (I uninstalled long before being bored with the
    graphics of the game)

    Major cons:
The CONTROLS and MOVEMENT for this game are downright unplayable. The main character is extremely clunky in ALL areas of gameplay. my first thought is that this game would play well on a console controller but mouse and keyboard is just sad.

CUT SCENES are noticeably too long. every single one of them. and there are TONSSSS of cutscenes.

    Combat is pathetic.
generally consists of pressing a target selector key that highlights over your enemy. once locked on your character has their movements on a track with the targeted enemy. if an additional enemy comes from the side or behind you (and they ALWAYS do) , you take a hit and it HURTS. attacking consists of left clicking and having your character do a huge lunging attack that leaves you super vulnerable. it cant be canceled? you can't really aim your swings. you just click and swing. also, all abilities and swings have a noticeable delay in activation time.
you basically have 3 modes of attack for the first 10 hours of gameplay , 2 of which are completely ineffective.

the character customization in this game is stone age.
you can chose from fast swords slow swords crossbow and BASIC magic.
crossbows are one of 4 possible skill categories to chose from and it does virtually 0 damage and is 0% entertaining to use. skill credits earned go into skills that raise attack bonus and effectiveness, no cool abilities or skill tree, just pick your weapon out of the 4 and mindlessly put all your points down that skill "tree"(column)
there are very limited and uninteresting spells to choose from, and switching spells in combat is really a drag.

the alchemy system is tedious and annoying to use but has potential

the story is quite average. i want to rate the story lower but they definitely tried to make it really good. all the cutscenes remind me of many of the popular HBO series with slow paced but deep and profound character development. however, the execution is just TOO boring. Your main character is so 'ho-hum'.

difficulty balance is all over the place.
you use your "witcher sense" for EVERYTHING. you will go around right clicking every 4 seconds to see if there is a glowing object such as a lootable chest or quest item. its VERY repetitive.

it totally feels like this game was made specifically for console. the combat seems intuitively catered to a controller style game. this pc port was extremely poorly executed in the mechanics department.

94/100 metascore!? wtf. please wake up.
this is a 4/10 or worse on the PC.

I'm sorry, but this game is highly overrated. It was a bad port, the interface, performance, and clunky combat all are examples of a lazy port. Its not often I get so frustrated with a clumsy combat system that I simply quit a game with a good story, but this is one of those times. (I played and beat VTM bloodlines for god sake) The state of gaming today is sad and this is just another example.

I feel lied to by CD Projeckt which used to push the envelopes of PC gaming by providing a stellar, AAA PC experience in their games. This game doesn't even look REMOTELY close to all those preview screenshots and videos that sold me on the game years ago. I even bought a brand new i7 Alienware gaming PC specifically for Wild Hunt - but the dull, greasy graphics are so fuzzy and blurred and graphical and control options so console-dumb that I could have just as well kept my old cheapie laptop to play this ugly turd. I don't play games because I want to pretend to eat, drink, and sleep. I don't play games because I want to maintain a piece of **** sword that needs repair after every fight. This game treats me like an abused spouse that has to take out the garbage constantly. Poor level design lead me into situations where I had to laboriously keep playing a boss fight until I could use that last sliver of health correctly. Even if someone has a fix for that, all the other things in this game annoy the living &$)@& out of me so badly that I don't care. I can run faster on foot than my horse!

That hideous child-dwarf model from the beginning of the game haunts my dreams now. Her "adult pretending to be a child" voice is a shrieking nightmare. This game is so amazingly overrated that I feel like I've lost contact with my relationship to humanity.

Add to that an awkward and insufficient introduction to mechanics and an expectancy that the player spends time to collect ingredients, the locations of which are unstated, and create oils and potions in preparation for each major battle, the occurrences and details of which are often unknowable beforehand. I must be the only one who's noticing all the problems this game is hiding beneath it's admittedly gorgeous surface.

    - Geralt controls like crap. It's like steering a truck, when he's supposed to be cat-like.

    - The leveling system is immensely punishing and limited. You're supposed to stick to one tree to reap the most rewards until later on, but there's no way to know this as a new player, and by the time you figure it out you're in too deep to correct it without a hefty fee (1000 Orens to respec, which is a *lot* of money in this game)

    - Loot charts are all over the place... a level 4 quest will end with a cache that gives you level 7 equipment, and a level 14 quest will end with a quest that gives you level 6 equipment

    - This wouldn't be as much of a problem if you could just sell your things to vendors, but most of them are too broke to afford more than one equipment sale at a time (if you're lucky)

    - Just far too much garbage loot in general. It makes the crafting system immensely tedious. Do we really need 10 different kinds of food and 10 different kinds of drink, when the end result of each is the same? It just makes inventory navigation a bigger pain.

    - Inventory needs more filters. Oils and Potions should have their own tab, as should Letters, Notes and Books.

    - Crafting sheet needs organization. You have level 14 items being placed above level 4 items being placed above level 8 items. Doesn't sound that bad, but over the length of the game the hindrance of this really adds up.

    - Distribution of recipes for alchemy seems broken right now. You'll find enhanced and superior versions of some recipes long before you find the base recipes you need to take advantage of either (if you ever find them at all). This isn't as big of a deal on Easy, where you don't need any level of strategy to clear the game, but the higher you get in difficulties, the more important it becomes to keep up with gear and recipes, and since the distribution of both of these seems to be wild, it makes playing on anything above Normal with a build that isn't broken (like the current Adrenaline Points build) an exercise in futility.

    - Far, far, *far* too much time wasted traveling. Yes, the world is gorgeous, but sometimes I don't have the time to spend my time looking at things I've already seen. There's a fast travel system, but it's implemented incorrectly - instead of being able to select places you've already been from wherever you are and instantly travel there, you need to find a nearby sign, use it, and *then* you can fast travel to other places.

    - Main quest and some secondary quests are pretty interesting. However there is a *ridiculous* amount of "go kill" "go fetch" quests that are dressed up with VA to make it seem like something more than tedious padding that subscription MMOs utilize to drag out the leveling experience.

    - On that, leveling up in this is just way too slow, *especially* in the early levels. You'll be around level 30 when you beat the game, when you stretch that over 200 hours, it should be pretty easy to see why this is an abysmal rate.

    - Pacing overall just feels abysmal... you'll find a point of interest (most are not worth your time to check out in any way shape or form btw) that has enemies 3 levels beneath you (next to no XP) that are guarding a corpse that has a letter that starts a quest that leads you to a nearby treasure that gives you a bunch of underleveled loot... and then 50 feet in the other direction you'll find a Wyvern that's so powerful it just puts a skull next to its name and it one-shots you

I know a lot of people like to argue poor design decisions as challenging game design, but the only way any of this is intentional is laziness or an eagerness to rush an unfinished game to market. Wait for the Enhanced Edition.

Problems from this game engine package everyone uses:
    1) Movement is based on triangles making everything you do clumsy feeling.
    2) Interacting with shops has to buffer the scene causing every interaction with merchants to take 30 seconds to load.
    3) Games are made by teams of artists rather then programmers.

The Wither has many nice graphics and an open world with invisible zone lines that force you teleport to a sign post. Graphics look really nice at first until you realize they rehash the same skins over and over for the same creatures just different levels. The Witcher just feels like another crummy rendition of Skyrim. Biggest gripes for me are:
    1) Hold you in a save game limbo rather then respawns.
    2) Target system that switches based on the games misconceptions on what it thinks you should attack next. Making fights almost random, I get stuck in save limbo and have a different result every time by just spamming left click.
    3) Spam food/potions to win gameplay.
    4) Dialogues full of cosmetic decisions that lead to the same exact outcome.
    5) It thinks it's an mmo; for example you sharpen your weapon and it is a buff that lasts 15 minutes regardless if you do anything.
    6) Full of mindless quests and "events" everywhere that you will wish the world was empty.
    7) Crafting/Alchemy is very unintuitive.
    8) You are a magic witch fighter hero dude who trained fighting on posts blindfolded with spiked obstacles swinging but you jump 2 feet from the ground and nearly die.

This is a really tired and old game design only because it never improves. A new company takes the same tried engine/package adds new art and dialogue and calls it new. Not only do they keep the price the same, higher if you don't account for inflation, but remove content and release it as an expansion the day of. Luckily this game came with my new video card. And no one wants to play Gwent!

The world is obviously too big and quality of content is low, really the world is just huge forest copy-pastes all over the place, filled with low quality repeating tedious content, last time I checked it doesnt requires a lot of intelligence and creativity to do something this

repeat "destroy copy-pasted monster nests by pressing E on it for inconsequential amount of xp" ad nauseam

repeat "liberate copy-pasted villages from low level trash mobs so it can be repopulated with NPC who dont talk and with houses not worth visiting and with merchant who sell garbage for inconsequential amount of xp" ad nauseam

repeat "save the same copy-pasted NPC in the same copy-pasted bandit camp in the same way (by killing bandits) for inconsequential amount of xp" ad nauseam

repeat "pick worthless loot form chest guarded by group of trash mobs" ad nauseam

its just boring, and it gets boring really quickly

99% of NPC dont talk to you and 99% of houses are empty filled only with worthless loot and are not worth visiting, speaking about closed environments, dungeons can be explored in less then 5 minutes, and other environments like temples, fortresses, castles or ruins are almost non-existent, and if something like this appears in the game it can be explored in a few minutes, most of the world content is plain forest filled with copy-pasted villages and trash mobs

majority of loot in the game is worthless (usually items for crafting and alchemy and other garbage),

monsters even higher level monsters gives insignificant amount of xp and drops worthless loot so engaging in combat is unrewarding and sometimes makes net loss because you will have to spend money to repair your gear.

Enemy variety is low, you will have to fight zombies, drowners and humans most of the time

Constant surplus of money because there are almost nothing worth buying in shops. Camera movement in closed environments is atrocious, instantly moving from place to place often placing itself in areas from which are uncomfortable to watch. All places of interest are marked on the map and map is revealed from beginning so exploration is almost meaningless.

Dialogue options are shallow, because Geralt does most of the talking and his personality is fixed so you will have to choose only some lines, usually if important decision is involved, no more then 2 lines, other dialogue lines consists of asking for information, and other inconsequential stuff, so most of the time there is no choice in dialogues and you cant really immerse yourself into the role only to influence Geralt to be little more aggressive or nice

quests are designed poorly they all fallow the same boring pattern

acquire quest -> fallow markers and go to places A and B which are also marked on your map -> press E on every glowing object to win the quest,

everything is marked its very boring

the game even constantly tells you what to do in every stage of the quest. for example massage prompts ->go to a place -> now explore this area ->now talk to this person and so on

there is no satisfaction and brain work included in solving quests because Geralt tells about every clue, reads every note and book relevant to the quest and reveals what these clues might lead to, when you press E, for you

side quests are very short usually takes about 3-15 minutes to complete, areas and dungeons you visit to solve the quest are very small, linear and takes less then 5 minutes to explore, filled with few trash mobs and more or less worthless loot, so there are no huge maze like dungeons and underground fortresses filled with valuable loot, interesting enemies, encounters which requires smart decision making, items and people and so on

usually problems presented in quests are tied to separate individuals (for example, find something for a smith, kill monster for a farmer, ect.) and not tied to communities and settlements as a whole, so forget about epic "save the village whose inhabitants are shackled by fear, because evil witch from old times, somehow arise from its grave in deep forest and threatening their very existence" and something like that

they starts in the same fashion, that is you have to talk to NPC or read a note to acquire the quests, you cant for example run into quest, or find a clues somewhere in the world that doesnt instantly gives you quests and after some time find another clue and when going into some area and then knowing about the quests in that area from the clues you acquired, or quests that are not immediately unlocked but starts only when you advance or finish other quest and you have to make ends meet or something happened in first quests that affected the world or something like that

also quests dont interfere with each other and are not inter-connected they scattered around the world without any imagination waiting to be resolved

and they really are so tedious and monotonous and repeating you feel like trash man collecting sacks of garbage throughout the area

there are hundreds of quests in the witcher 3 but you can sort almost all of them into these 3 fallowing categories:

kill monster (acquire either through a contract or NPC)

find something (usually people) for other person find lost goods, which are few steps away from the area you acquired the quest and repeat these 3 again and again around the world, by going to marked place and pressing E to win this quests, ad nauseam and these quests are so shallow too as I said you almost never encounter anything interesting other than: go to a place - kill monster, go to a place - find something, go to a plce - acquire lost goods short, requires no brain work, small, easy, guided, isolated form each other like frozen pizzas in supermarket this is literally fast food of quests In my opinion older game like baldurs gate 2, fallout, might and magic, or diablo managed to do in one dungeon what the witcher 3 couldnt managed to do in an area needed about 40 hours to explore this game is not customizable enough and its mechanics are too simplistic for average RPG and combat is too clunky and not dynamic enough for average action game the world fails as huge battle arena as we seen in games like might and magic or diablo because combat is terrible you want to avoid most of the time, and there is simply not enough enemies in the world and it fails as interactive world with interesting content outside of combat like meeting interesting NPCs or interesting locations, or choosing from multiple solutions to resolve encounters like we seen in games like fallout and baldurs gate 2 because all areas of interest outside of combat are repeating monotonous tasks, content is repeating so exploration quickly wears off and become meaningless garbage recycling, collecting worthless loot which is also can be used only in combat and the game is not interactive enough (for example the only way you cant save prisoner from bandits camp is by killing bandits ) so I have every reason to believe this game is 4/10 that means being below average

Anyway I don't like being overly negative on a title like this which undoubtedly has had a lot of work put into it so perhaps if there is a1st person mod and a high res texture pack then I will re-install.

This looks like a fun game! Unfortunately, between the thing crashing every 15 minutes and the fixed, narrow FOV making me sick when I can play there's no way to know. Don't buy this yet, wait for someone to fix the obviously rushed port job.

More open, ok graphics though not what I was hoping for. Spend less time looking at Geralts back than in TW2 but still this pathetic console field of view and no field of view slider in 2015!! Damn consoles holding everyone back a decade and turning a lot of people off gaming in general.

PC gamers run current hardware that can cope with a decent field of view in whatever resolution

PC gamers run current hardware that can cope with a decent field of view in whatever resolution they run at. I don't expect to be limited by developers too lazy or cheap to rework textures to provide a decent field of view. You cant even move the camera back a bit.

The environment is well done, yet somehow, that just makes it more annoying that your playing at such as bad field of view. Doubt I will finish it, way too annoying and I have a PC precisely because gaming in the ridiculous field of view forced on consoles is really distracting. What a waste.

Look - I've played for a few hours so this is a review in progress.

I'm posted it now though because I've had to stop playing because I feel sick! The PC version has shipped WITHOUT an FOV (field of view) slider. I'm posted it now though because I've had to stop playing because I feel sick! The PC version has shipped WITHOUT an FOV (field of view) slider. What this means is we are locked with a narrow, zoomed in camera that is so close it's suffocating.

The PC isn't a console - we don't need to be locked into these narrow FOVs - and to do so when sitting up close to a 30 inch monitor is a recipe for headaches and nausea. The Steam and GOG forums are littered with threads bemoaning this almost unforgivable oversight (it's 2015 - FOV sliders should come as standard).

So while I'm enjoying the game; while the mood and the visuals are uniformly excellent - and the story has me hooked and there's been no crashes (frame rate dips every now and then with my GTX 780 but it's fine on medium settings) - I can't rate a game highly that prevents me from playing it because it makes me ill!

    Fix it!

I'll come back and adjust my review (and score) when it's patched and I can play the game without being sick.

The witcher controls really bad with keyboard and mouse. The graphics are fine, but that's about it. For my taste it has too much focus on action and the main character sadly is not who i want to play either. If you like Geralt and can live with playing him and also like buttonmashing on a controller that game might be great for you, for me its totally unbearable though.

Sadly they sell out sooner rather than later, there is close to no difference between medium and ultra, the downgrade is real...

The fights are really similar to the previous entry's a little of improvement but nothing amazing, controlls are ok, lack of graphic options and a new CD Project Red Shady as hell. My 4 points are for the story and the price of the game 36$ GoG version,

Gameplay is the most important however even that is absolute garbage, delayed actions by 0.3 seconds , character control is delayed too , graphics a real and complete joke after the downgrade for console parity idiocy, skills are pathetic and , no mod support AT LAUNCH , even worse than witcher 2 , music is terrible, story is standard witcher wich is above good, overall 3.5/10 at best ,Gameplay is the most important however even that is absolute garbage, delayed actions by 0.3 seconds , character control is delayed too , graphics a real and complete joke after the downgrade for console parity idiocy, skills are pathetic and , no mod support AT LAUNCH , even worse than witcher 2 , music is terrible, story is standard witcher wich is above good, overall 3.5/10 at best , game is a letdown EVEN IF YOU expect nothing or no improvement over the last 2 iterations of witchers, quests are good., runs @ 55-60 fps @ 1200p on 4 year old hardware wich is good,

overall a let down not worth the money, dlcs add trivial things .

let me start telling you this, I bought the GOG version and I have been playing this game ever since it's released, currently I have its 1.08.4 patch which is considered as the latest . I admit I have a bit old PC but I can play GTA V with high settings fine, I can play Dragon age inquisition with high settings fine but not this game? why? some says this game is so demanding but to belet me start telling you this, I bought the GOG version and I have been playing this game ever since it's released, currently I have its 1.08.4 patch which is considered as the latest . I admit I have a bit old PC but I can play GTA V with high settings fine, I can play Dragon age inquisition with high settings fine but not this game? why? some says this game is so demanding but to be honest, when a game is so demanding it means either the game is graphically awesome or badly optimized but we everyone know Witcher 3 downgraded its graphic quality just before it's released and it doesn't have a realistic look so why it's so demanding? because it's unoptimized , the game is a console port and badly optimized, and there is poorly coded Maxwell favour Gamework on top of it.

there are a lot of bugs in the game, character movement isn't that fluid like in GTA ,you feel like it's a bit robotic when moving, the same feeling has when fighting and riding a horse. water quality, terriann quality isn't that good either ,it looks like a bit cartoonish, the only pro side of this game is having good looking characters and weapons.

animations are quite bad, character movement, tree shaking when it's windy are absolutely horrific. the trees shake like thick papers when it's windy, there is no realism at all in it. the water quality is quite bad, it doesn't even look like water, but some heavy fluid. combat is repetitive and boring and dull, horse riding doesn't feel like fluid, it's same as the character movement, so robotic, if you want the best character movement then go to GTA. the story is fine, level design is fine, the world is huge and wonderful ,there are a lot of places to explore , but the game performance discourages me from playing, who wants to play a game with 30fps and low?
in towns it goes even low like 23fps, I reduced all settings lowest as possible but the situation is still same, I have seen that a lot of people defend this game, I dunno why, you need a gtx 980 to play this game with Ultra quality at 1080p@60fps but that card is so expensive, it just suggests gtx 770 as recommended means u should be able to play the game with max settings with 1080p@60fps with gtx 770 but it's quite impossible.
when you set all settings to Ultra on gtx 770 ,the fps goes to 30fsp.so basically on a recommended system you can't achieve 60fps at 1080p on Ultra mode. then why it's even recommended?
only SLI high end cards can pass the 60fps and single gtx 980 card can achieve 60fps in towns.

this game purposely reduced the performance of AMD cards recently though it's fixed I am pretty sure still it favours Nvidia Maxwell users over other users. I feel like this game is developed to push people to buy Maxwell cards so it's more like a Nvidia marketing plan. Physx can't even be turned off.

I suggest that wait for like 2-3 years until more powerful hardware shows up and bugs in this game are fixed, then go ahead and buy because this game is worth, I heard that DirectX12 patch might come so soon which means there will be a tremendous performance boost since gtx 400 cards. don't buy now and wait, so you can have the game at cheap price too.

The Witcher 3 have a big world but the game don't seem to know what to make of it. It's just about the main story line. Exploring is hardly rewarding, the witcher gear quests are mostly go and fetch, there are no complex dungeons, just some small caves, everything is easy rewarded, bland and empty.

This game is a complete masterpiece, one of the greatest games of all time. Stunning graphics, absolutely heart warming campaign with endless potential for DLC. Great game, cannot recommend more.

Very boring game, too much pointless dialogue and i feel like it's overrated, didn't even finish it, because it was so boring.

The Witcher 3 says no to all of this - it's a great game with a fully realized setting, it's a joy to play, the business model behind it treats its customers like human beings, and it delivers a story that finally hits the tone of the books.

Probably the best open-world RPG ever made, but it still falls prey to some of the genre's worst traps.

I've made it pretty clear that it's hardly a flawless game, but that doesn't change the fact that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is something pretty bloody special and you should absolutely play it.
