It's all I hoped for. Love the story and the design. Perks could have been a little more creative and gunplay isn't stellar.
But if you're looking for an action RPG with a nice story, otherwise good mechanics and really well written dialogues -> Go for it.

I am absolutely loving this game. Reminds me of fallout mixed with bioshock and elder scrolls. If you liked those games then the outer worlds is going to be right up your alley. The writing is also good with conversations feeling fleshed out. I've only played 6 hours so far but I haven't been able to put it down.

Its a good game but nowhere near what I thought it could have been. They have a beautiful world, they put lots of plants and other onjects into the game but dont do anything with them. 90% of the buildings you cant enter. Enemies are dumber than dirt, I have this on the hardest setting and it was rough before I got my companion and a decent weapon but after that I stopped even using the slowmo abilty. Along with that when you are snipping enemies they will run after you and then stop halfway and run back, even when I am still shotting them they will run back to where they started. Was hoping this game was more Open World, once you realize that you are pretty much on a track its hard to get over. I have no problem with them park games, I actually use to prefer them but when you give the illusion that your game is Open World I want the game to be open world. Also the game is completely instanced which is just a slight disappointment ontop of everything.

    The goods.

Now just because there is a lot of bads doesnt mean I dont enjoy the game. There are many things that I do enjoy. I enjoy that you can level up a single piece of gear the entire game to keep up with you, this is a great aspect of the game. I really enjoy this, I just dont understand the reason it cost bits and not armor and weapon parts, which you are breaking apart all the time if you care about that aspect anyway, but whatever. I love all the witty banter and team cohesiveness, companions actually seem to be decent in my opinion compared to other games I have played. I like the stat allocation part of the game which then go into just skills. Its an interesting way of doing things and it makes it easy, after you get skills to 50 it makes it kinda worse but its still not bad. The quests are short and fun, you dont even have to be on a quest to complete it which is nice, many games require being on a quest to pick up quest type items or information.

Honestly, I thought the good list was going to be much longer but I cant think of anything else I liked. The game had so much potential. Maybe with a few updates and DLCs it will be a complete game.

This game is so good. It’s the fallout we have deserved for years. Finally Obsidian back behind the RPG games again! Why does this only have an eight overall!? So disappointed with these reviews! This game is a HIT! If you love traditional RPG games Obsidian really brought back all the thing people love and trashed the extra garbage Bethesda loads into the games!

There's no option to be mean in some of the interactions! When you play the old fallout/crpg games, you could get in a whole lot of trouble over the things you said... in this one? You can almost spam any option and get to the end with no worries. It's too cookie cutter.

I gotta say the level pacing is too off kilter too. Getting a level isn't really a reward, it's more of a 'alright, more points time'.

I will say that I appreciated the setting and the premise for the story seemed promising, but I am having an awful time liking my companions and am not really feeling 'wowed' by the landscapes/graphics so far. It's a hard sell to continue! Makes me wish some of the good old crpgs came back but those were a product of their time/makers. Back when computer games were made mostly by the same demographic that played them. There's too much candy crap in this. I don't feel tough when I'm trying to defend someone's feelings in a video game and there's no real meat and potatoes to this.

I'd hate to give it a 5/10, I'd say 8/10 for overall premise but 5/10 for how I felt after a good amount of time in it. Meh.

No really memorable characters, even the old guy I forgot the name of already. Combat kind of sucks, the open areas and monsters are a bit generic. The graphics have this awful haze-like quality like you're looking through a camera. I like the load screens (my favourite part is the load screens actually) and the opening cinematic is quite good. What do they want to say with this game? Bohoo, capitalism is bad, we live in a society and everyone not sporting blue hair and buzzed sides is a masochist! Everything about this game has been done to death, and might I add - a lot better by the very same developer 10 years ago. On the plus side, the visuals are good and at times even great, but that is the only noteworthy thing about this tired rehash of a game. If you have NOTHING better to do - and by nothing I really mean nothing as going for a nap will raise your pulse more than playing this snoozefest - then "The Outer Worlds" could be your plan C. The game I've played so far fits my idea of a perfect game. Thank you developers for making this, I feel you've made it just for me. Also, I'm not sure I've mentioned this enough, but the music, amazing!

Even though the game is not open world but instantiated, the graphics is average at best with few stutters and FPS drops here and there; textures and models are ok but the maps are small, repetitive, not memorable and with very few NPCs.

Rocks and trees are sparse, they are all identical, 1 model per planet, and they don't blend in with the rest of the environment. The sky is awful, the clouds are very low res and blurry and they even managed to place them behind planets..how can a cloud stays behind a planet, I have no idea.

Cities feel empty due to the lack of NPCs, compared to games like GTA V or the upcoming Cyberpunk, they are laughable. The same goes for enemy locations, there are at best 4-5 enemies per location putting this game on par with that piece of crap of Fallout 76..even Rage 2 has a better enemy/location ratio and it is not instantiated like this one.

The character creation is on par with a 15 years old Korean MMO..you have 4 decent male faces (2 western and 2 Asian) and that's it, because the rest are too ugly to be fixed with the fews slider at your disposal..and of course you can't even swap eyes, nose or mouth, you can barely move them around..but guess what, you can put beards on female characters..and finally don't even think about modify the body of your character because you can't..not that really matters considering they didn't even bother to add a 3rd person mode..lazy and cheap.

The armours look ok, but there are very few models, at level 20 you still find the same models than you found at level 1. The equipment is ridiculous, you only have two pieces, helmet and armour..Fallout 4 had SIX pieces, Skyrim and Oblivion FOUR..this game has TWO..no gloves, boots, shoulders pads, bracer, jewels or some new original gadget considering it's a space game..nope, just two pieces..cheap, lazy and pathetic.

What about weapons..there are many models here, though their stats are always the same..they could have added some special bonuses to add some variation but nope. Also there are no explosives or grenades or mines, nothing at all, and you can bind only four weapons..similar games allow PC players to bind up to 10 weapons/items, this game allow you to bind 4..they went the cheap way even in this..it's a crappy console port.

Combat..melee is very basic, you can only swing your weapon or block, I don't think there is even a light/strong attack, let alone special abilities, and most of the time you don't understand if you have hit the enemy or not..you can hit en enemy three times and the guy doesn't even flinch, like nothing has happened.

Ranged combat is ok, nothing special or fun like Rage2 or Doom. The crosshair is offset for no reason..and you have only three types of bullets, light, heavy and energy..again they picked the cheap and lazy way, at this point they could have made just one type and call it" ammo"..

What about the enemy AI..it's dumb, very dumb: either they walk/run toward you or stand still. If you pick a long range rifle you can kill them one by one with zero effort.
There are also companions you can hire but their AI is dumb too..if they switch to a melee weapon and the next enemy is far away, they don't switch back to their ranged weapon but they charge all the way with their melee one..I have no words, really..also, at the moment, if you assign an helmet to a companion, you can't remove it..good job, did they even test it!?

Music and sound effects are ok; voice acting is great, very well done.

Dialogue are fine but the options you pick don't really matter most of the time..you have additional choices if your dialogue skills are higher, but they still don't matter because if you pick them or not the ending is still the same..either you accept what they want you to do or leave the conversation.

The main story is nothing special, honestly you won't give a damn about it.
Side quests are average, as usual go fetch this, go kill that, pretty standard and boring stuff.

The loot is very repetitive, same armours, same weapons, same consumables, same junk over and over..there is nothing exiting about it and after 1 hour of game you will already start to automatically pick stuff up with out bothering to check what it is.
They managed to make even hacking and lock-picking boring by not implement any mini-game..you just have to hold a button, might as well remove them completely.

What else, the UI is clunky, compare items is a chore, you have push a button to save the item you want to compare and them move over to another item and when you're done you have to go back to the old item to cancel the previous selection..they tried to reinvented the wheel and failed. Also there is no tooltip with descriptions and explanations when you mouse over stuff you don't know.

So..for a AAA 60 euro/dollar game it falls short by a big margin.

Look I'm impressed with the lack of budget they were able to make something this solid. But I found myself playing this more like it was doom or something since I didn't really care. I eventually gave up all together once I hit the third world because I was just so bored.

The weird SJW motives forced into the mix on top of this just gross me out. For instance the default character is a black lesbian woman, which I'm sure is the majority or gamers playing their game obviously so it just makes sense for them to try to appeal to that large portion of the market. Not only that but there's this awkward forced in side quest where for 30 minutes you have to assist a lesbian in pursuing her sexual interest.

My favourite part of the game is the voiced dialogue, it makes you laugh in alot of circumstances. the gun play alone actually feels quite good but I do recommend playing the game on the hardest difficulty because it is quite easy to get kills and survive, I do not think this game is for everybody it is for people that do enjoy RPGs and I am tired of people giving reviews that do not enjoy RPGs because this game is not for you.

This game isn't that good, and in terms of an RPG, it's rather lazy in it's delivery. Hacking just requires you to hold down a button, same as lock picking. If you juice up dialog skills you always get what you want. If you get caught stealing, you just say F off and the characters just accept that. Xray vision is always on and the A.I is average to bad.

The game is not bad, its just mediocre/average in every element. The fact that people are praising this game as great, says more about the current state of the games industry than the actual quality of this game. Gun play is average, A.I is average, the worlds are way to small (more like levels) and there is very little to explore, zero innovation, you can max out your character to be good at everything which defeats the purpose of it being an RPG, and the quests are boring generic fetch quest after fetch quests. It's 2019, can no one come up with any ideas to make missions in games more than go here, pick this up, bring back to me I am glad I only paid $1 for a one month xbox pass, as it's not worth $90.

Fallout New Vegas kills this by a long way, which is odd as New Vegas is over 9 years old. Get it on a cheap xbox sub, but don't pay AAA prices, it's not worth it.

Was hyped about this game, but... It's just not that engaging...
Many are saying it's what new Fallout should be - no it shouldn't. I got a lot of fun with Fallout 4 right from the start. And with this game I have very mixed feelings.
Graphics quality is tolerable for a AA game, but it's priced as a AAA, so I expect it to at least not stutter... Worth a try with an Xbox Game Pass, but

Many things are directly "inspired" from Mass Effect and Borderlands Pre-Sequel. But it falls short of either one or the other very much. Absolutely dead and non-interactive world, reminiscent in this sense of RAGE and RAGE 2 (rembemer the dead and boring towns in the games? yes).

Good fun RPG. It's nothing mind-blowing but it's a solid RPG that will feel familiar to anyone who has played older Fallout games. When looking at the scores, factor in that it's NOT Fallout 76 and therefore, it scores a little bit higher than it should. It's like when The Division 2 came out and got an extra couple of points because it wasn't Anthem.

The Outer Worlds feels like a crossover between Fallout: New Vegas and Bioshock, with a graphic style that sometimes feels like Fallout 4 (but with more colour).

The attention to detail in the dialogue is breathtaking. For example, if you wear outfits you have taken from your kills, people will tell you that it is in poor taste to be walking around looking like the bad guys.

I haven't hit any major technical issues so far. I am playing on a cloud gaming service called "Shadow" with an NVIDIA GTX 1080 on max settings. I get the occasional glitch in frame rate, but I get this in all AAA games on Shadow, so I put this down to Shadow and not The Outer Worlds.

The one glitch that drives me mad is when I press "X" on the controller to talk to people, the gun is drawn. Every single time. Luckily, I am not attacked when this occurs: it is just an annoying glitch.

Overall, I am extremely impressed with The Outer Worlds.

If you decide to be a sarcastic or dismissive **** to everyone you meet, watch companions leave you and the path to completing objectives become more complicated. You can personalize your character interactions however you want. Honestly, what kind of choices do you expect to matter more than that?

I guarantee I can pin down how these "choices don't matter" clowns are playing the game. They're linearly going down the dialogue trees, exhausting all options, without realizing in the process they're eliminating a lot of them--because once you commit to a dialogue tree that is at least semi-diplomatic, a lot of the negative options disappear (which are often towards the bottom). I've reloaded dozens of saves because I couldn't get back to a different outcome that I saw the first time I interacted with an NPC. These are the players that pride themselves on being completionists, because any white unclicked text just triggers their OCD. That is not how you play these types of games.

As for my personal review of the game. I'm not a fan of the Fallout games at all. I could never manage to get very far in them as I'm not a big fan of the brown/olive green washed out palette. The Outer Worlds on the other hand sucked me in right away. While the facial animations aren't spectacular, the writing and character design is. It takes very few lines of dialogue for me to decide if I really like or hate a character, if I think they're full of **** or if I want to assist in their plight. That takes solid writing to pull off, especially with side quest NPCs. Side quests at this point in my life are often meandering distractions that have little payoff and make the game take longer unnecessarily. I probably won't do all of the side quests in this game, but the few that I have done I actually enjoyed and felt like I was accomplishing something meaningful.

I love the art direction and think every place I've visited so far is engaging and spectacular. The graphics not being God of War tier does not detract from the art direction.

The combat does need work. This is one valid complaint that most people can agree on, and my guess is Obsidian thought this was more about the story and relationships with characters than a gunplay theme park. You should still try to make the combat as fun as possible. I hope they can work on this in updates.

However this is where I diverge. I did not like the game as much as I thought I would.
I enjoyed it for what it was, but it just felt like more of the same. Go here, do this. Go there do that. Kill these enemies, collect this thing, follow the checkpoint marker, talk to this npc. It just felt like they took what made New Vegas really great, took out the not so good, and overemphasized what people thought was the best parts of it. The acting is colorful if samey, the guns feel good but sometimes they just don't hit when they should. Exploration is pretty okay, but the places start feeling the same over and over. The quests felt like something I would have had in Fallout. And so much more.
Don't get me wrong, you should try this game, but wait for some kind of sale or get it with the Xbox Game pass (I payed $1 and played at max on PC).

No matter what I did or how much I tried to get into it I couldn't help but become more and more bored as I played. I may come back to it one day in the future, maybe after some content updates.

Take note: I mostly play stuff like racing games, CoD zombies (NOT the multiplayer), Roller Coaster Tycoon, LOTS of Dark Souls (2 and 3), etc. RPGs were never my thing, but this was especially mediocre. I finished Fallout 3 in a day, what happened here?

Fallout 4 Released, It was a good game, but it wasnt the good game I was expecting or wanted. I wanted to see that meaty RPG I grew up loving. Then mass effect andromeda released. I could look past the weird facial animations but not all the other, far more impactful issues. The writing that just didnt fit the game. Voice acting that felt like the actors were picked up from the front of a gamestop. With voices not matching alien races with very specific types of voices. Dialogue that was void of all meaning and impact. Then in the most intense and life endangering situations, lines of dialogue that sounded like the NPCs and player character were out for a daily stroll around the town lake. It was a huge let down. Hopes were high when Bethesda put on a live stream with the iconic Fallout Please Wait screen. I and hundreds of thousands other people waited. And waited. What happened 24hours later shot goosebumps all over my body. A power armor helmet faded into view. The camera panned out of a sprawling forest, it looked beautiful. But something felt off with Take Me Home, Country Roads playing in the background and nothing looking like it was touched by the war. This was it, we all thought in twitch chat as we sat in disbelief. They heard us on their shortcomings in fallout 4 and only a few years later they've come to make it up to us. Oh boy, we were all naive.

What ensued was leak after leak from Jason Schrier of kotaku. A pompus man that just wanted a part in the click bait hype train? Nope. He genuinely wanted us to know that we were all so very wrong. Leak after leak pointed out that the game was multiplayer, with base building. We all rationalized it, well the settlement system expanded to be able to be placed anywhere and multiplayer. Ok no big deal a coop fallout with a friend or 2 would be pretty cool, barring no sacrifices were made to the core of what makes a Fallout game. More leaks pointing to be a possible MMO or Rust like game. We all sat in disbelief, "Jason Schriers a **** idiot" I said to others. Heh yea sure. Then at E3 Todd God Howard confirmed our worst nightmares, Jason was 100% right. The one studio with the money to make the RPGs we had grown to love has went to the Darkside with every other studio. That was it.

In the background of all this I kept my eye on the guys that truly inspired my love into RPG games, Obsidian. During this time, Tyranny, POE 1 & 2, South park-SOT, they were releasing RPGs with meaning. Moral dilemmas, character development that meant something. They had it all, except the money. Developing deep, rich RPGs but in an Isometric POV and usually little VO.
Watching the game awards in 2018 a trailer came on. I look to the screen after hearing a curious sounding man knocking on glass as I the character looked at him through that glass. I watched, sci fi style music played as I climbed out of that same chamber on what looked to be an alien planet as that same scientist narrated. I heard "the corporations had taken over and started selling all their products way overpriced. I was intrigued. I thought the art style looks really cool, kind of Bioshock style but with a futuristic space twist to it all. My heart started racing a little. Is this another Fallout? Is this a new bioshock? What is this, starfield? I saw this in chat "FingerFlickenBoy- Space, space never changes" My heart pounding, a wave of goosebumps over my body I grab my fiances foot as she lie behind me on her phone, and I tell her to look look look!!! Then ellie is on the screen " You have to choose!" she says "You have to choose now!". It shows what we presume to be the man in the armor shot dead and Ellie says "You know you didnt have to shoot either one right? But its fine I guess you just keep being you". I audibly shouted at this point Holy **** Is this what our generation has been begging for? Then " the creators of fallout" pops up, music starts playing, music almost destined to be in this trailer. Heart racing waves and waves of goosebumps rolling over myself, I turn to look at my fiance, her jaw laid open. I shoot a huge smile at her and look back at the screen. "And the developers of Fallout new vegas". This was it, the very thing weve all asked for, for years. Well not exactly, see weve been begging bethesda to concede and just give obsidian a contract for another Fallout but we all know that will never happen and this outcome. This outcome is far better.

Tim Cain and Leonard Boyarsky had another brain child called Outer Worlds and oh was it gorgeous. The writing in this game is pristine. The choices and dialogue is what you want in an RPG. The game is amazing. So ill just say a negative. The graphics settings. The inability to remove armor after equipping.

I only have two issues with the game so far, lack of a robust gun-play and difficulty balance; Normal is relatively easy while Hard is very close to the hardest difficulty, so I had to start on Normal and later on switch to Hard. I have been waiting for years to play a good RPG with a good story, both Bioware and Bethesda's recent installments (Fallout 4 and Mass Effect Andromeda) were major disappointments for me but I can honestly say that Obsidian surely delivered with the Outer Worlds, I hope they will add big expansions DLC for the game, for a fair price and of great quality ofcourse.

Wow, after a series of lackluster and overhyped games, such as BL3 or Control, finally something good. Good story, good side quests (maybe not on par with witcher 3, but close), enjoyable combat, not buggy.

Very good game, It's Indie 2A at it's finest. But, almost paradoxal, it feels more like a Fallout 3 than a full Fallout New Vegas. Something is still missing about the athmosphere, but discovering a new world and a new finely crafted lore really worth it.

In one word, average. The game is not bad, but it is definitely not great. There is nothing here that particularly stands out or attracts you by presenting something that is unique to itself. There is nothing here that particularly stands out or attracts you by presenting something that is unique to itself. No, instead the graphics are average, the writing is average, the story, gameplay, atmosphere, sound, everything is just average. In an age where the old-school RPG genre is finding itself a little barren, this game may very well seem like a beacon of hope, or a pillar of video game craftsmanship. Unfortunately, i do not find this to be the case.

My largest issue with the game, however, is not the graphics per se, but the art direction itself. The game does not try to adopt any sort of idiosyncratic look. It takes on the color palette and style of No Mans Sky. This issue is further exacerbated by the terribly lackluster character creator that has every character looking either generic or just ugly. This point made ever more salient by the fact that every female character looks like she manages a blog for a living. For example, there are 30 hairstyles, shared across both sexes, and only 2 of which are medium length, none of which extend past shoulder length, and all remaining 28 are either short or pulled up hairstyles. Yes, very progressive. Can't have objectification via long-hair or attractive people in a fantasy sci-fi video game.

Now, a game does not need good graphics to be good. I do not subscribe to this belief, but it must have some sense of style that does not seem to pander to the "woke" narratives that Western game developers fixated upon.

For you Xbox GamePass players, give it a try. It is an okay RPG that is reminiscent of what feels like a lost genre. For everyone else, I would not spend the $60 on the game.

I honestly think that the **** Saints row 2 PC port (which is thankfully getting fixed) played better than this port. Due to all these graphical and some possible engine issues, the combat feels clunky and marred down from forced mouse acceleration, mouse smoothing, and of course; an inability to centre the crosshair.
When it comes to story, the beginning is very abrupt and confusing (going to give the benefit of the doubt and say that this is planned), but there really isn't a good sense of motivation. I've been seeing a lot of comparisons to F:NV and Fallout 4, but those games had a strong sense of motivation while still playing on the destroyed, not as it once was, world feel. However it's just "oh hey so you are the only dude outta all these colonists that you don't know at all, that i could revive. oh and now you gotta save their asses for me". Now while I do quite enjoy the emotions behind the characters and the way they speak, the character design just feels wack imo but I can't quite think about why.
My recommendations is to sit on this game until the PC version gets patched, and pray that you can sit through tedious fetch quests, but this game is not worth full price at all.

I am also excited by this but not so much that it'll blind me to the reality that it is a very mediocre game.

    The pros:
    - Actual skills and perks that actually make a difference to your conversations
    - Having charisma checks in conversation
    - Broad variety of weapons, armours, companions, enemies, and biomes.
    - Entertaining characters, with entertaining dialogue.
    - Doesn't take itself too seriously.
    - Is a complete game, not parts of a game gutted for DLC's sake.
    - Opening hour of the game is fantastic.

    Cons:
    - Combat is uninspired, and weak. Gunplay is poor.
    - Choices don't actually matter, because you'll always end up in the same place everytime.
    - It tries a bit hard to be funny at times and misses the mark. Tries to be quirky for quirkiness' sake, rather than actually being legitimately quirky.
    - Not so much a con for me, but I can see people finding issue with it - it doesn't look like a game released in 2019. It'd have fared better in the early days of the PS4/Xbone generation.
    - It doesn't really do anything original, or standout.

I've rated it 7/10. It's still amusing but I expected more from Obsidian. Definitely worth a play at least.

-Hardly any of the characters or quests are memorable. You'll play through it and wonder what you just spent the past 20 hours doing exactly.

    Design:

-The world is pretty small. There isn't really a whole lot to see. You might say - well, didn't they flesh out the small area a lot and give it depth? No, they didn't. Small and static.
-Speaking of static, pretty much all the NPCs are. They just stand around doing nothing, no routines, etc.
-The combat sucks, the monsters are kinda generic and there isn't much variety with the enemies.
-Your skills pretty much never get to be used in dialogue. Pretty surprising and disappointing for an Obsidian game.

    Other:
    -The music is pretty good.
-The visuals aren't that good. It's like a worse looking Borderlands.
-Loses a point for supporting Epic's anti-consumer policies.

Overall, I'd say you should try this one before you buy it. And even then, wait for it to go on sale. DO NOT pay full price for this, because it isn't worth full price right now.

The problem with this isn't that it is a bad game (far from it), but the fact that it failed to reach its true potential… or maybe the expectations were simply too high, because there's nothing here that anyone can point to and say that it is terrible. Sadly, there's almost nothing that's great either, apart from the role-playing element and the quality of writing. The gunplay? Ok. The exploration? Decent. The plot? Fine. The dominant feeling here is of a game that is good enough so that you won't hate it, but also not as good for it to be the flawless classic that it could definitely be - but again, that's probably those darn high expectations speaking, because flaws or no flaws, The Outer Worlds shouldn't be missing from any RPG collection.
