Skyrim is hands down the best RPG I have played -- edging out NWN, Mass Effect, Dragon Age, Mass Effect 1-2, Gothic3, Fable and Oblivion to name a few. So far I have 200 hours vested and plan to have another 100-200 to go, awaiting future content eagerly. The interface is about the only justified criticism by those giving the game an over-hyped, unjustified poor score. As such the game deserves a 9.5. If your *primary* ambition is combat though, I'd consider another choice or wait for a price drop. If you enjoyed/loved any of the aforementioned titles for their RPG elements, Skyrim should do more than satisfy you. Expand

This game is one of the best games I've ever played. It stands right beside The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. Gorgeous environment, varied environments, detailed environments. Be who you want and play with complete freedom. In this game, you can pick the wings of a butterfly, use the wing to create a potion, use the potion to kill an enemy, raise the enemy from the dead to fight for you, kill the poor thing again, loot it and then store that loot on a shelf in your house next to hundreds of actual books of lore. This game is enormous, and there are so many quests it boggles your mind. Literally. I'm nowhere near done a first playthrough, yet I'm over 230 into the game and savoring every second. What is amazing is how much content is so truly interesting.

The musical score is superb and may be the best ever in a video game. Levelling is well balanced, its fun to level up, statistics are solid, and Fallout 3's perk system got expanded and solidified. There are tons of things to do, when you aren't arranging your house(s), shopping or reading. Legends, mysteries, secrets, ancient artifacts, deadly myths, powerful enemies, and dragons. Set to the backdrop of a civil war. Looting is outstanding, as is crafting. Inventory and general UI is efficient and clean. Writing is much, much improved, as is lore in general. Bethesda doesn't belittle previous lore, but only reinforces it. There is so much I'm this game I can't begin to cover even a small percentage. But it is a masterpiece. Truly, seriously, a masterpiece. I highly recommend it, and if you're overwhelmed by its size, do the main quest, a faction questline and a few side quests, and it should clock you in at around 70 hours. The few issues I had are minute compared to its greatness. Bugs occur and crashes occur, as to be expected with such a truly massive game. And dungeons can be and are fairly linear. No big deal, compared to everything else.

Thks game is a 10/10. Buy it and play it! And good job, Bethesda!

And if that is not the case, you will need to see a counselor for video game addiction after you buy Skyrim anyway haha This game is more of a dungeon crawl hack and slash game, like DIABLO, and is bound to make some nerds unhappy, because according to them "it's not a proper CRPG" with all that cliche fantasy, king, princess, mage, warrior, decision making and dialogue **** that they love. The graphics are decent, and they run really really good. it is just as smooth at 32 fps as it is at 60fps with a mainstream graphics card like an HD5770, and if you have a bigger card than an HD5770, you will be a happy camper. The major beef everyone has with the game are the bugs, and that displeases me too, but now that it is patched, I have no complaints, except that the High Res Textures stutter, but I know that will get fixed as the AMD graphics driver is updated. Anyway, you get the picture, make your choice. Expand

After Morrowind and Oblivion, this game manages to solve most of the weaknesses encountered in the previous Elder Scrolls installments. None-the-less, its whopping success is, for the greatest part, due to the winning comparison with the past two games of the series. The main quest, along with the well-designed guild quests, finally gives the player a good reason to play through the game in its entirety. The graphics, although very good on their own, are clearly a major overhaul of Oblivion's graphic engine, while the game's world is literally filled with beauty and ancient Norse lore, as it offers magnificent landscapes and a nice blend of towns, fortresses, burial sites and, for the first time, well-characterized dungeons scattered throughout Skyrim. The music score fits in well, while the general voiceover is not really something that will be remembered, even though with some exceptions. Besides, the attention shall now be paid to the cons of Skyrim. In the long run, most of the radiant quests encountered in the game turn out to be relatively shallow and menial, having your character (as for guild quests) become the chief of all of them after a bare set of three or four tasks. The feeling you'll have is that of a wondrous world partly filled with tacky quests and with a barren replayability factor; in addition, the perks are mostly useless, being a blatant old fashioned rpg facade with no real impact on the gameplay. In spite of these major quirks, however, the game works quite well, provided you are into the realm of fantasy lore. Had this game come out some two or three years earlier, it would have surely gotten an higher mark for my part. Expand

    Very well done Bethesda,

The Elder Scrolls always top their previous game, always. People love to hold onto the classics such as Morrowind or Daggerfall, and I can understand that, they were awesome. But at some point they should try something new, and not require it to be the same thing as the old game. Things must change, if they don't people WILL complain. That aside Skyrim is huge.

But at some point they should try something new, and not require it to be the same thing as the old game. Things must change, if they don't people WILL complain.

That aside Skyrim is huge. It takes a long time to actually complete all of the quests and find all the amazing locations with amazing items, and unfortunately casual gamers will play the game for a couple hours and think they finished all the interesting content and not fully explore the whole game to their own detriment. This game is an investment, fun comes with time invested.

This game has a ton of bugs, every elder scrolls has a butt load. However I have never minded them. This game is so HUGE that it would be impossible to get rid of all of them. The bugs are very welcome compared to the rest of the game. Also Bethesda is pretty good at trying to fix them in an appropriate fashion. I highly recommend the PC version with the creation kit you can download mods that will help change the game to the way you prefer and even add more content. Once the Navmesh bug is fixed (it is being worked on) which prevents movement of NPC'S in modded land, the mods that come out will be extraordinary. Bethesda is very invested into Skyrim, they have been rolling out patches and even added NEW content in the last one. They added Archery and Magic kill cams, small but nice, I love the idea of adding new features to the game just because. With DLC, New Features in patches, and the awesome modding community this game will last a very long time. 9/10= Very Awesome, a lot of bugs, but they are being fixed.

There are also mods you can add to the game (extra animals, nature sounds, weapons, anything) that can provide an enhanced experience. Overall, I really enjoy this game... The Combat doesn't feel so static anymore, like as if your hitting a fence post with a nerf sword, first person combat can see you bob up and down from running, sprinting, attacking, and blocking. The Status bars are also a plus as well, having them Symmetrically placed across the bottom of your screen, to minimalize HUD flogging when you want to get to the heart of this game: Environments. The Fog system in this game is by far the best I have ever seen from any game, that from looking at it it is almost pantomime to me. The Water system has improved a tad, but sometimes I tend to be swimming in invisible water due to glitches. Enchanting weapons is now a skill set, rather than those cores you'd retrieve from closing oblviion gates. Weaponry Combat is now divided between One-Handed and Two-Handed, rather than Maces and Swords, and while either one can be argued over which is better, I would prefer One-Handed. Although, trying to get re-acquainted with certain magic skill sets is a little trifling, considering that Mysticism no longer is a magic skill set and we are left with Illusion, Destruction, Restoration, Alteration and Conjuration. Mysticism's spells have been divided among each other skill set, which can make finding the particular spells difficult if you are not familiar with The Elder Scrolls. But most importantly, Skill Sets are a big improvement to this game. Leveling Up is now more diversified; if you leveled up just using Marksmanship, you can put a Perk into Enchanting if you feel like it, where in Oblivion it had you forced to increase skills based on what skill you used most. Also, Magicka, Stamina and Health also have their own perk points, where each time you can level up, you can add 10 points to either one. The Story, well, it has some strengths, but also weaknesses. IN terms of communication, Now all communication is in real-time, so when you communicate to one person, not everyone else will just freeze in place. Also, you won't have to stare at the NPC you are talking to face to face. In fact, you can actually move your first-person view while conversing, providing a more thematic and realistic ideal to communication. But to the story. Now, the Dragonborn Quest was epic, especially at the end when you finally face Alduin once and for all, but the other main quest, The Civil War Quest, was kind of shallow. Now, you can never win a civil war with one person, that never happens. Throughout the whole time you are doing this quest, you never actually feel any tension from your foe, either being the imperials or the stormcloaks. And when you do enter Enemy territory, you aren't even threatened from there. Even after thwarting Stormcloak Evasions, capturing cities and ransacking forts, all that the leaders ever do is just curse your name and talk passive-agressively towards you, not even once bothering to mention that In that case you'd be a High Profile Target for Assassination. I was glad to be done with it, considering that their idea of a civil war wasn't ideally the one I was hoping for. However, the other side quests are all interesting, and indeed, Every Dungeon, Crevice or area you find has their own story to tell. Books are still existant in this region, even some of the easter eggs from the earlier elder scrolls (the lusty argonian :P). It's even interesting to read books detailing events that happened during "The Oblivion Crisis", as they call it. The Relationships between each races is also very apparent, with circulating criticism's and racisms between lower class races (Argonian's, Khajiit, Dark Elves), and it allowed me to analyze the situation that was burgeoning all over Skyrim and possibly all of Tamriel. It allowed me to develop my character in a way that I thought I would never be able to do with games that would rather just kill first and ask questions later, I could actually have a character with real context and self-awareness of the problems that propel the lore forward. However, on a technical level, there are a lot of issues with this game that bother me. I can't see my oxygen level when going under water (although maybe this was for the tension), I can't see the weight limit for any companions (er, pack mules), before me, companions will constantly get in your way and act retarded, and most importantly, auto saving. While I originally embraced this idea of autosaving, I constantly get annoyed with trying to access my inventory while autosave saves when I don't need to and doesn't when I do need it to. Ultimately, this game shall be worth your money which I could say more for some of their DLC content. Expand

I played oblivion until 11.11.11; Skyrim will last until the release of the next TES. No other game deserves a 10/10 more than this one (On the PC that is).

This brings me to my next point; you DON'T have to pick a class. Certain races have at the start certain bonusses over other races, (your levels are slightly higher.) The fighting feels very natural and is thought through. The world looks AMAZING, and if you have patience, is not to big at all, like other people may imply. Also, you get the feeling that Skyrim has been there long before you came, and that it will continue to exist, long after you die; a lot of the people in Skyrim are named, and have daily routines, work, go to the pub, visit other people and go home to sleep. Bethesda put a LOT of time in this game and you can notice it. This is a game every gamer should have. BUY! Expand

Firstly the user interface, the game never tell us anything on how to use the feature/menu, we discover them ourselves and it is not user friendly to begin with. There is some issues regarding favorite option especially for dual wielding character. The user interface is confusing and not designed for PC gaming. Secondly, the game is purely designed for hybrid class of a character. No pure class will ever make it without metagamming and abuse some mechanic. It is because this game is designed for new generation players who favor the in-between class, mix-magic type of a character. So players who favor pure warrior, mage and rogue type will have a problem especially in the middle game. Thirdly, the game favor evil type of a character, pure good character have no place in Skyrim. Most of the quests are based on greed, deception and worst end up sold own soul to some deity/satan/whatever. There is lack of good options in most quests. Higher grade weapon/armor is demonic in nature and every character will need Enchantment in which the process need the character to trap any living creature soul and manipulate it. There is no moral background for such practice and it is some what encouraged. The hero (Dragonborn) him/herself is a soul stealer. Fourthly, the AI for followers is so bad, and there is a bug where the followers never level up with the character, they will end up weak as the main character and enemies become stronger. Fifthly, lack of in depth story. The world is vast and rich but the characters are boring and not interesting. The population will only repeat some few lines, the followers also, each characters are poorly constructed to make us deeply involve in the world. Sixthly, the main quests suffer the same with previous TES, that is the world don't run by it self, it is the player who move the things to come. The player will be directed to someone or place to "activate" the quest. So long as the player don't "activate" it the world is stagnant. Everybody will talk about the thing, but nothing happen until the player "activate" them to happen. Seventh, the leveling system is better than previous TES, but still it is not so interesting. Most perks are just passive upgrades, and there are little information on what and how the perk function, some are even misleading. Some perks are wasted depended on what type of a character played, have to choose them just to unlock the perk really needed, so it is a waste on certain level ups. Eighth, there are too much of fetch quests, eliminate certain NPCs quests, bring certain item to certain NPCs quests, in which are boring. There is no background story or whatever, we just being told to do it and then it's done. Some quests are not even quests, but considered a "quest". And we are the hero of the land, the Dragon Slayer, the Arch Mage and whatever title we get, the game treated us as nothing, we still have to prove our self to join some faction, we still doing some menial tasks, we still become errand boy/girl to someone. Ninth, too many bugs and glitches, no need to say more. Tenth, this game is empty, despite all the wonders and beautiful things in it, still it feels empty... Expand

The game world could be better. I feel the map is way too small for this game. Larger map would greatly enhance the immersiveness and creators could have put more variation on terrain. Plot ain´t that great, some side quests have good stories( for example, Thieves guild), but mainstory is just...dull. You can finish it in few hours and generally I didn´t care about it at all. Dialog is the best I´ve seen in Scrolls game. It´s still terrible though. Bethesda probably tried to make the world feel more "alive", but they failed. Dialog sounds akward, is tedious sometimes and ain´t serving a purpose all the time. NPCs are way too eager to tell useless opinions and what the f**k they did last evening! Players choices don´t really matter. You can butcher every man and woman in a village and afterwards citizen of Skyrim and guards still think of you as a hero, you can serve every damn god without fear of divine punishment. Skill trees are either underpowered, overpowered, dull or useless. Combat is fun when you play the game for the first time, but it gets dull quickly, you don´t feel like you are hitting things, it´s unsatisfactory. And AI is outstandingly dumb. Those are the weak points of the game, but they don´t break the game completely. This game is damn immersive at times, I can spend hours walking around and won´t even notice it. And there´s a lot of background for the world. And on PC you have mods! With mods you can fix several major problems and make this game gorgeus looking. If you aren´t as fussy as I am then you´ll have even more fun than I did. I say buy this game! Do it! Now! Expand

The story in this game, what is that? Let the question sink in for a moment.
So what is the story in this game actually? Well how I see it, is that the story is what you decide to do. You literally never have to do the "main" story. You do what the heck you want in this open world sandbox rpg. And I love it. In fact I hope more games even MMORPGs do this.

The sound in this game, by Jeremy Soule is really good. Sound/Music in games is actually ridiculously important. I enjoy the music in the game.

Quests in this game is not like other RPGs that I've played. You walk around but you're not talking to an npc and reading 4 paragraphs of text, NO! For instance you walk on the road (like a normal person) and then suddenly you see a woman potentially getting kidnapped by som wild men. And then you help her (or else you're a weird person) and then you get a reward of some sort. Everything is dynamic.

When I say that everything is dynamic, I mean the combat as well. When using a bow for instance, you have to aim at the target. There is also gravity on the arrow (obviously since it's an arrow). You actually have to aim with swords/axes/maces as well. You could even run out of the way. Magic works the same way as bow'n arrow, but there is no gravity that is taking it down, it just fades away.

You have 1000's of quests to do in this fantastic world of skyrim. And also "guilds". The Companions, The Thieves Guild, The Dark Brotherhood and The Mages College of Winterhold. You can join all of them actually, and become the leader in all of them too. I'm not going to give any spoilers of these tho.

The Daedric quests are in my opinion the hardest ones. And they are awesome as well with a lot of stuff to do before you're done with one.

All around a legendary game, if you haven't bought it yet.. Go do it NOW!!

Actually, I'm pretty sure you can ignore the main quest entirely if you really wanted to. Given that, the game does allow you to set your own pace and handle your story at a pace and style that you choose. Gorgeous visuals definitely makes the environment and the very game come alive (that can be enhanced and made even more realistic with mods!). Pretty much high production value across the board, obvious for such a big game but might as well mention it. Combat is definitely a plus and character progression and customization is excellent. Skyrim delivers in most aspects of it - the main quest line is intuitive and fascinating, and thoroughly challenging, and you can detach yourself from it at any time to explore the rest of Skyrim or do side quests. The world of Skyrim itself is absolutely massive and extremely well created - what I especially admire is how no two details, no two trees, are replicated anywhere else in the world. It shows a genuine desire to please consumers on Bethesda's part. The orchestral music that makes up the soundtrack somehow fits both the medieval lifestyle and ambient open air, all at once, which enhances the feeling of open-ended gameplay. What I especially love about this game is that the PC version allows you to make use of the command prompt and mod allocation should the current style of gameplay not suit your needs. You can use it to manually raise difficulty, create unique quest lines, or add your own textures. It's also Bethesda's way of tackling bugs - if you can't complete a quest because of a bug then all it needs is the command prompt to fix the bug for you. Some might say it's lazy of Bethesda's testing team and doesn't openly tackle the needs of consumers, but I think this can please everybody in each way they wish to play. I do have a couple of gripes though - the only word to describe the combat system is boring! You can't target your swings or pull off special tactics, it's simply click, click, maybe hold down click if you're a warrior, hold down click while moving backwards if you're a mage, stand far away and hold click if you're a bowman. There is almost no variety in any of the monsters, with the possible exception of trolls (I did have to employ tactics to bring down one of those behemoths!) Also, there is quite an evident issue that if you spend too long on the side quests you can over-level, in which case the main quest becomes a cinch, so it really could have done with some level adjustment on the wildlife AI's part. But once everything is summed up and rolled into this title, I can conclude that it is very much worth getting. Be wary of the (small) chance of disappointment because you'll be splashing out quite a lot of money for it. Expand

Overall I can surely recommend the game, it's fun. The main story line is entertaining as are a number of the other quests --- special mention to the Dark Brotherhood line and thieves guild, just for the sneaking around. However, there are still way too many repetitive boring quests. Furthermore, the game is just too easy. After getting barely acclimated there was no real issue with just maxing out the difficulty and rarely finding yourself in danger of actually dying. The Dragons themselves, after the shock of fighting the first one, are way too weak. The crafting systems are completely broken --- Smithing, enchanting and alchemy are very easy to advance ... and once advanced, you're pretty much invincible.

I have to also agree with the criticism regarding many of the characters. For the most part they all seem oblivious to your character's great accomplishments. They mouth the same lines all throughout the game. It's a wonder more time and effort couldn't have been spent in adding lines and in having npc's recognize your character's level and major accomplishments. After a while you will notice the same actor doing the same voice for different nps's --- I mean the actor couldn't use another voice for the different npc's? That doesn't speak well for the actor's abilities, nor for Bethesda's attention to detail.

Still though, the graphics are definitely better than in prior TES and I'll still give the game an 8 overall for its scope and breath the FIRST time through. I can't say I'm game for another play through, as I'm not sure there's anything left to discover nor will different choices create different outcomes. Think I'll just sit and wait for the next DLC.

    Story:
After starting the game, you are once again tied up and sent to the executioner's block (starting out as a prisoner again, YAY!), after you are freed, you discover that dragons are returning to Skyrim. Leading the return is the World Eater, Alduin. You are the Dragonborn (legendary dragon hunter), and it is your destiny to defeat Alduin and save Tamreal. The story here isn't the most original, but it's still good. I also enjoyed all the guild storylines as well. Every character you meet is well voiced (even if Bethesda uses the same voice actor/actress), and the world of Skyrim has so much backstory to it that it would take up the entire chunk of this review. The story here may not be better than Oblivion, but it's still great. 8/10

    Gameplay:
Like I said, Skyrim is filled with so much backstory that you'll be too distracted with exploring new areas, clearing out and learning more about dungeons, meeting new N.P.C.s, and creating your own adventures that you'll forget about the main questline (especially if you plan on replaying as a new character). The combat though, is not that strong. The combat is mostly just mouse-spamming, along with archery, sneaking, magic, and using shouts (special rechargeable abilities). It's good, but not great. The map is HUGE (bigger than GTA 5), so it'll take a few hours to discover every location on the map. The skill system has also been improved. You rank up a skill (limit:100) by doing that activity (archery, lockpicking, pickpocketing, etc.), reading skill books, or buying training from certain N.P.C.s. There are 251 perks in the game (some can be upgraded multiple times), and your going to have to respec (reset perk points using Dragonborn DLC or mods) in order to experience all perks. At the start of the game, you get to choose your character's race (10 are available), and customize him/her to your preference (although the character customization is weak). I've played the legendary edition, and there are barely any bugs that I've seen (unless you decide to use mods. Be careful). The only complaint that I had was that dragon battles are really anti-climactic. Because of the weak combat system, dragons are simple to kill, and they don't change up there strategy. Eventually, you'll get tired of fighting them, and you might learn to just run away and ignore them. This isn't a major issue as I've spent a total of around 400 plus hours playing this game, and most of your time isn't spent fighting dragons, it's exploring and creating your own adventures in this large and atmospheric world. And I would still like to return for more. 10/10

    Graphics:
The game's graphics now aren't that amazing to look at (still a large improvement over Oblivion). Although, the backgrounds, character models, item design, and some textures look really good at max settings, I still like the lighting, colors, and dynamic weather this game has, even if it's from 2011. Also, the high res texture pack barely does anything to improve the look of the game. Still, the visuals are nice to look at, and will keep you satisfied. 8/10

    Sound:
Another high point is definitely the game's beautiful soundtrack. The score has a nice mixture of soft melodic tracks (that play when you're in a city or exploring in the nice quiet environment with the weather nice and sunny), and hard, intense, and drum pounding pieces (that play when you're in the middle of an intense fight with some bandits or a dragon). All the sound effects in this game (footsteps, pulling out a weapon, shouts, casting a spell, hitting someone with a weapon, lockpicking, etc.) are really good and are quite an improvement over Oblivion. Bethesda really nailed the score and sound of Skyrim. I would gladly pay full price for the game's soundtrack. 10/10

    Verdict:
Skyrim was one of the best games of 2011. And now almost 3 years later, it still holds up. The story is good, the gameplay is large and excellent, the graphics still look fine, and the sound just immerses you into the world of Tamreal. I highly encourage anyone who hasn't already purchased this game to go out and get it (especially after all the DLC packs and price drops). I recommend you get it on PC though for a number of reasons: MUCH SHORTER load times, less bugs, console commands (sort of like cheat codes), and mods (guaranteed to add a few dozen more hours to your total time played). I'm not saying the console versions are bad (I played on the PS3 version as well), But you should definitely play this on PC, along with some cool and fun mods. Verdict: 10/10

Skyrim is a good game. Great graphics, landscapes, a nice world to explore etc..But, could have been better, should have been better. Much better. The world of Skyrim is beautiful and filled with detail, yet an uninterresting story with evenly boring characters, dated physics and textures, and frustrating combat make this game a bit of a missed chance, overrated as never before, and simply a copy of everything Bethesda already did before.

While the world is full of monsters and dragons and bandits..it feels static. Nothing changes, no matter how many crypts and dungeons you clear, it seems like they weren't really bothering anyone, and it won't make anything different, since you cleared many bunch of them. People say the same things, act the same way, doing the same exact things, like nothing has happened. Not even the threat of the dragons really bothered them at all, nevermind the fact, that dragons seem to be rather occupied by killing the wildlife anyway. The magic is very hampered and uninspiring, while the close combat feels like just whacking around. Graphics is great, although there are plenty of low resolution textures, that makes it look like a game from 2006. The real score the game should deserve would be around 5 or 6, but because of the thousands of mods and the time I have put into it, it gets a 7. All the so called pro-reviewers giving 9 and10 are smoking something, that they should share. There is no way this game is perfect. Expand

    Buy, this, game.
    Ugh, stupid 150 character limit.
Here is why you need to buy this game-
It's a game where you raid dungeons, use the souls of dragons to murder more dragons, and save the world.
    Sound generic?
    Well, it's awesome.
    So go buy it.

I had this game since the beginning. Beat it multiple times, played with mods and quit altogether because I stopped having a life. It is the reason why I avoid 80hr+ rpgs in general. It's been 5 years now and I still feel like it was released yesterday. If you get addicted easily, you might want to stay away from it.

For me, Skyrim lasted quite a while. I put about 70 hours into it on PC and half as much on Xbox 360. At first it was all so familiar, you start off as a prisoner. Explored, I suppose I enjoyed it moderately. I did the main quest which was...to be honest...a bit rubbish. You basically have to kill a dragon, a dragon thats slightly bigger than all the other ones. I love the combat, its so simple and easy to use and is much more enjoyable than having to constantly press buttons. Although combat was simplified it felt...so..dumbed down, the magic you use was visually impressive yet boring. While there were significant improvements from the two previous games there were also let-downs. I felt as though the quests were errands "go and deliver this to my wife." "Could you take this spiced meat for the Jarls dogs" They....bored me to death.

But really...I enjoyed it while it lasted. Although I really have NO urge to go back to it I have some good memories of exciting battles, interesting places, hilarious glitches and those funny gamer poops. The graphics is ABSOLUTELY fine, it sickens me when people complain about its...texture glitches....I mean I really didn't notice it much and I didn't really care. Its truly a shame that I'm bored of it now, but hey, I liked it. I would recommend it but I wouldn't say "GET THE GAME NOW!!!!"

Okay this is a little hard to understand, but let's start with the positives. Here we go. Skyrim is a great and vast world to explore with quests everywhere. The main quest is far too short and very dull and meaningless and then there are the guilds which are shorter and much worse. They have improved a lot of things such as smithing, alchemy, and enchanting. Now we go onto the bad. The main quest is far too short and very dull and meaningless and then there are the guilds which are shorter and much worse. Here is a nutshell of all the major guilds. Companions: Short and dull with little to do. College: Short and most of the quests are search and retrieve. Dark Brotherhood: The shortest of all the guilds and where are the cool kills from Oblivion that I was hoping for, oh right there not in Skyrim. Thieves' Guild or should it be called the Followers' Guild, because there is ONE thief quest and it wasn't very good in the first place. Also the storyline of each of these guilds was dull, boring, and at the end nothing special happened. Also at the end of each of these guild and all throughout Skyrim are those MMO quests that have you kill or retrieve something. Sadly most of the quest that I was talking about are kill or retrieve even some of the guild and main quests. There is also no one in the entire game who you can actually like or remember, even your spouse is forgettable. You also feel like everything was for nothing, like you actions didn't change the world at all. The only people who actually talk about your actions are the guards and those are for only joining guilds. There is also the times when an NPC's voice will change. Now we get onto weakness number 2, Combat. The game's combat system is terrible. You basically spam the the attack key with no true challenge in the entire game and that is unless you go on to a harder difficulty and than the game gets even worse. The reason why is it becomes nearly impossible to play a Wizard at the start and everything kills you in ONE hit while you need to hit them at least TEN times. Then there is the leveling system which also pretty poor and this is because it makes the game feel more like a hack and slash than a real RPG. You put perks into skill trees and that is it you can't even get all the perks. Previous Elder Scrolls games had a more RPG feeling to them and who knows why they changed it. Then there are the bugs which ruin the game and defeat any form of progression. The DLC was also terrible, but that isn't the point. Overall the game is worth ONE playthrough. Because you can play the entire game in one playthrough because Bethesda was lazy and didn't put any choices in the game that would affect endings. So this game gets a 6/10 for being so lacking. At first glance I would have given this game a 10/10 easily, but only after two playthoughs do you realize how much of a rip off this game is. My review is very late, but that is only because I sat down to play some Skyrim today, but could not last five minutes. Do not get this game at full price and if you do get it for PC or better yet get Oblivion or Morrowind both of them are cheaper and will keep hold of your attention much longer. Skyrim is by far the worst Elder Scrolls game I have ever played and I do not intend on playing it again. Expand

I feel like everything was "dumbed down" for those that can't really *get* into a good, deep RPG. Instead, it was directed at the COD players out there (yes, you know who you are) that want INTENSE, ACTION PACKED AWESOME, but without the mystical backing. I'm sorry, but when I become the leader of a guild, I want to feel like I earned it. The quest lines were shallow, rewards for exploration were weak, and the world didn't really come together like it should have, Overall, it wasn't a *bad* experience, but I was definitely disappointed. But what makes this game really great is the active modding community. I love how every person's Skyrim can be tailored to how they like it. Skyrim is very easy to mod, and the selection of mods are extremely numerous.

I’m glad I did as it’s a hugely impressive though flawed achievement. TESV is ambitious to say the least, and Bethesda have created a visually stunning (especially if you install the high-res texture packs and graphics mods available) and hugely immersive experience. SKYRIM is a large, varied, open world that can be fully explored. There’s much to see and many jaw-dropping sights. There are also a huge number of quests to complete and skills to acquire, and this is where the flaws lie. There are simply too many quests (often repetitive) and skill trees, and the storyline suffers as a result. The main story is underwhelming and because the player tends to get so sidetracked by the numerous side quests (I have read, but cannot confirm, that there are as many as 300 pre-set quests plus more that are randomly-generated) it fails to engage as much as it should. The game would benefit from greater emphasis on quality of story and more imaginative and diverse, though less numerous, quests. That said I’ve so far played 120 hours and have many quests left to complete. I shall dip into this game for some time to come I suspect.

The lore was great, and the gameplay itself was a blast. But if I had to count the hours of life I essentially wasted because I had to load an earlier save I'd probably cry. When it gets to the point you've got more than 5 save files, not because you want the option to branch in a different direction of the story, but because you want to ensure you have a recent save to go back to when you realize yet again, a quest is broken it gets to the realm of the ludicrous.

My only real complaints are that the map provided in the game is really quite insufficient and you'll find yourself downloading yourself an improved map from the nexus mod site real fast. Also the UI is designed for a gamepad so if you are trying to use the keyboard which I do not recommend with this game you will have a heck of a time navigating the menus and inventories. So if you use keyboard you'll also want to download an improved UI. But really this issue is easily resolved just by plugging your 360 controller into your computer instead of trying to be a "keyboard elitist." And the game plays much smoother in doing so. The graphics have some of the best optimization that I have ever seen.... and most computers that are from 2008 or newer should be able to run the game on max settings and get a result that is better graphics at higher frame rates than one would expect. Gameplay takes a while to get used to, especially if you did not play Oblivion. Combat highly depends on what weapon you are using. You probably want to try some melee or magic attacks before anything else. The sound effects are great, as is the music - however I do tend to turn music off in games after a while. I have run into a few bugs, mainly things like objects rolling around on their own.... but I have not seen anything even close to "game breaking."

Overall this is one of the few games that deserves its high appraisal from the paid reviewers. I feel that after playing the game many of the 0's and 1's for ratings are falsified, most likely by people who never even played the game. I say this because of the fact that the first few negative reviews I even saw all had lies in them.... as when I came across where said cons were supposed to be in the game they weren't there at all.

I like all TES games, and each continually develops. When i first bought skyrim, the first thing i noticed was the magic. Holy Hellicopter, they revamped the magic. There are so many more spells than before, all of them have better animations and artwork, just wow. They deserve an A+ on the magic bit. It all looks beter.
Next, the animations. I love the animations, and they have gotten better since Oblivion. Granted, i didnt play Oblivion as much as i wanted to, but the animations in both games are splendid. (More so in Skyrim).
The world. Every quest, every landmark, every Easter egg, every enemy, the items, weapons, spells, NPC's all fit into one big basket of perfect. The entire everything is perfect. It does get a bit boring if you dont have an active quest (Just kidding, go kill some dragons, or explore the random events.)
    ~THE BAD~
    1. Bugs (Its a sandbox game, there are always bugs. Deal with it.)
    2. IF YOU HAVE A BAD COMPUTER, DONT COMPLAIN ABOUT THE F*ING GRAPHICS.
    3. Also dont complain aout the UI. Its amazing, and is not a console port, or whatever.
    4. IF YOU HAVE A BAD COMPUTER, DONT COMPLAIN ABOUT THE F*ING GRAPHICS.
    5. This is not an MMO where you can "Switch Weapons/spells 1-5. Its made to be more realistic, and a hotbar would ruin the freedom. (For example, dual weilding.)

The story and the game play are average, but the world is just stunning. I've put in over a hundred hours and I don't think I would be able to explore the whole world fully even if I put in twice that. There's nothing more to say, its one of the best games ever; unless of course, your one of those losers who doesn't like dragons.

This game is an absolute masterpiece. I have not encountered any glitches or crashes so far. The more and more you play, the more addicting the game gets. With spectacular graphics and an adventure you'll never forget. I would say Skyrim is one of the best games I have ever played.

This game is legendary, there is no doubt about that. Not everything is perfect in this game, but it does so much more right than other RPGs that it is absolutely forgivable. If you are looking for a single-player western RPG in the current generation, this is the one to play.

I was really shocked! Now at a level 31 I can't be a warrior because of all the magic involved. This could have been a wonderful game. They need to study World of warcraft, those folks know how to make a game that has lasted and leave the warriors what they are. That's why Blizzard still has millions of people still playing their game. Kids can play world of warcraft, they should not play Skyrim at all if under 18 years old. Expand

This game is outstanding, does have some bugs but nothing that can't be fixed with the console, and to those of you saying "Not complete w/o mods", get some mods then.

This is the best RPG that I have played in a very long time. The world is so immersive that a person can just lose themselves in it. I cannot recommend a better, modern single-player RPG.

Okay, I will give Skyrim the obligatory recommendation. What’s there to say? Another sprawling Bethesda epic.

The only somewhat legitimate criticism I’ve seen about Skyrim is regarding how Bethesda tends to release games full of bugs thinking that users will come up with mod fixes. I don’t know about that as I can’t say I’ve ever played a Bethesda title I considered broken. What I will

I don’t know about that as I can’t say I’ve ever played a Bethesda title I considered broken. What I will say is that users in the Steam Workshop have come up with some truly incredible mods. Deducting a point from Bethesda is one way to look at it but I say giving people the freedom to use Steam Workshop gives them a point right back. The fact that it is a game so many people feel compelled to create so many mods for speaks volumes. Bethesda must be doing something right.

One of these days I need to actually go back and finish it…

Its not bad but all it really has going for it is the environments (which are incredible). The quests tend to be worse than Oblivion. Especially when it comes to the thieves guild (where you don't even need to remain hidden to complete the quests and get all the rewards), dark brotherhood, and mages guild quests. The mages guild quests in particular are just terrible. The dark brotherhoodIts not bad but all it really has going for it is the environments (which are incredible). The mages guild quests in particular are just terrible. The dark brotherhood quests are probably the best quests in the game and even then they are pretty average by RPG standards.

The other criticism I'd have with the game is the frequency in which naturally formed caves turn into large ruins. It just takes away from any immersion when nearly every cave leads to something extensive and grand.

Finally races have very little impact in your interactions with people in the game. Its said that dark elves live in poverty and are looked down upon in one of the cities, yet when you go there as a dark elf people react to you no differently than if you had been a Nord. Its just sloppy, lazy, programming on Bethesda's part to not have included different reactions based on race. Even Dragon Age Origins managed to do this (so they had 2 years to improve on what other games have already done).

The interface is also clearly designed for consoles and not for PC's. Overall I'd say.

I've spent countless hours playing skyrim, first on PS3 and now on PC, and I'm still in love with it. This is my least favorite game in the TES series, mostly because it is barely an RPG. The game seems to awkwardly try to breach the hack and slash genre, with some mixed in faux RP elements. It seems like no matter how you choose to advance your character, the game plays functionally identical. Also, the "follow the gold beacon" method of questing is rather bland. I liked Morrowind for requiring you to travel places and figure things out on your own, rather than the teleport and find gold dot method.

I hear there is a mod that adds back a lot of the missing RPG elements that were present in the past games, but I have not tried it yet.

I vote a 3 because there is definitely less of a problem with bugs, and significant improvements on the engine (I guess that it would have been a good beta). Other than that, I cannot think of any redeeming qualities. Also, how does this game have a 94 on MC (other than BSW paying for critic reviews)? Even the friends that I have who loved this game don't think it should have gotten that high of a score.

I played Skyrim from beginning to end, made a ridiculously OP set of armor and weapons, and finished about 80% of the side quests. I'm usually a completionist when it comes to games, but I had to give up on Skyrim. Although the game IS pretty and has a few epic set pieces involving dragons and cool powers, it gets old fast. There is SO MUCH to explore in this game, but a lot of it seems pointless. I don't mean to discredit the game designers in any way, but I personally am not one to enjoy an area of a game just for its scenery. If I want to climb up a mountain and enjoy pretty creeks and nature, I'll go camping. It got to a point where I was doing quests just to start shortening the ridiculously long quest list. There was no real emotional attachment to any of them, and no real sense of accomplishment when completing them. No reward was better than the equipment I had crafted, and the enemies ceased to be a challenge. This leads into combat... I don't think there is much to say about this. The melee combat is still pretty clunky in this game (Bethesda... PLEASE take some notes from "Chivalry: Medieval Warfare" on how to create satisfying FPS melee combat), and the range combat consists of slowing down enemies or pathing them into obstacles and pew pewing them do death. There is no real challenge aside from a few encounters, and even then, it is the same concept; just against a harder hitting, longer lasting enemy. The game can become a grind (especially if you are a completionist), and the key battles like Dragon fights become a bore. A real benefit to the game would have been some form of multiplayer (the hardest opponent is always human in my opinion), but we'll just have to wait for the Elder Scroll MMO for that... As an art piece or interactive movie, I give this game a 10/10. Beautifully done... but as a game... I'm sorry, it's just not appealing to me. It's a humongous beautiful world full of repetition and empty of emotion. You got half of the formula Bethesda. Make your game a bit more challenging, clean up your combat mechanics, vary the gameplay a bit more... I'm going to go play some Dark Souls Expand

Unfortunately, Skyrim trips and falls on its own (most probably, to make the cool-sounding deadline of 11-11-11) and just before it reaches perfection as the ultimate specimen of its genre, it self-destructs in a crucial aspect of game design: the interface and the peripheral components (inventory, journal, map, etc)... but that is not to say that Skyrim is anything but a truly majestic, epic RPG that will suck you right in its cosmos.
