What really hooked me, was the exceptional level of detail in the graphics, the excitingly tumultuous new-line adventure of terrorizing the populace as a werewolf, and the intense combos of a revamped melee system. As an avid Oblivion player, I really wanted something new to set Skyrim apart, and more importantly, to make the game worth the 60$ it cost me. Bethesda delivered. Unless you're running the game on a Pentium 3, the graphics are incredible with a refreshing style and user-friendly interface. Example: when your character looks at something really bright (like the sun) then looks into something darker (like a shadowed room) your screen actually mimics the experience of "your eyes becoming accustomed to the light/dark." NPC characters' eyes actually glitter in the dark sometimes. Incredible. As far as new content, how's being a werewolf? An exciting twist to the game, without the humdrum inconvenience of being a vampire in Oblivion, lycanthropy adds a ton of fun to the game without being overpowered and without causing the player undue tension with NPC's. And as far as combat goes, awesome. The end. Fallout style combat closers never get old. Critical strikes? I'm in. Dual wielding spells? as@hDb%as9dh!!! The only downside to Skyrim is the technical issues that need to be resolved (and I assume they will be in upcoming patches) that are mostly held to the player falling to death in silly, annoying ways, and the occasional quest bug. Also, the Dark Brotherhood isn't as cool in this one, but that's just my opinion. And, as usual with this style of game, I'm always conscious of the fact that I am completely and utterly alone. Some kind of multiplayer would make the engine truly groundbreaking. But apart from wishful thinking, and the occasional annoying bug, Skyrim is worth your money, and a whole lot more. 9/10 Expand

Absolutely brilliant. Apart from a few minor glitches with the AI and the inventory menu, the game is flawless. A huge world to explore with the freedom to create your character the way you want to. A true RPG.

I'll admit it, I didn't give the game a fair chance in 2011, and I guess I did the right thing. Why? Because now it is consuming 35% of my free time. The quests might be a little dull, but hey, who said you have to do them? You can just roam Skyrim, which is, by the way, beautiful, and not care for the main quest. Also, the great thing about "forgetting it for the past 4 years" is the fact that in that time a ton of mods were created, enhancing the gameplay which was great even without mods. It is basically "Oblivion v2" with those features we lacked in TES IV:

And I'm having a blast writing about it right now! In this Elder Scrolls entry, we are sucked into the fantastically fantastical world of Skyrim, a world which Bethesda has masterfully crafted, with elegant craftsmanship being found in every tree, temple, dungeon, house, castle, etc. If you hadn't gathered already, this game is a joy to explore, with every dungeon, every bandit hideout, and every city holding its own unique mystery and excitement. In Skyrim,I wasn't forced to explore every nook and cranny in its vast open world, I wanted to explore every nook and cranny. The game never forces exploration on you, because it knows that you will be more than willing to traverse the world on your own. The combat in Skyrim is an improvement on the combat of previous entries to the series, with kill animations and an actually viable 3rd person camera. There are also many varied, interesting quests to be found throughout the game, as well as many dynamic random encounters to be found that will keep the game fresh after you've completed all of the quests. The skill trees are as diverse and in-depth as ever, and perks are a fun addition. There are a few problems though. As with many other Bethesda games, there are multiple bugs throughout the game world. While most of these bugs are mildly annoying, there are a few bugs which can be game breaking, although I myself haven't experienced any of bugs which significantly hindered my enjoyment of the game throughout the 200+ hours I have spent playing. Also, some of the dialogue is poorly written, as well as some of the characters, but most of the time the dialogue and characters are interesting and enjoyable. Overall, I have and will continue to truly enjoy Skyrim, and I highly recommend it to any fan of The Elder Scrolls, RPGs, video games or quality entertainment in general. Expand

There are a few bugs, but so far, they're not ones that may annoy the heck out of you. While there are still character models that tend to look the same, and voice actors that tend to be the same too, this doesn't happen all too frequently. The textures may not be the best out there, they certainly aren't the worst, and from a distance, they blend into the environment really well. I don't know what people are talking about in terms of dodgy controls. You have WASD to move, space to jump and so on. I think the only things that are dodgy using PC controls is that to use your left weapon, you need to click the right side of your mouse, and the same the other way around. But honestly: You can change that around in the control menu. I mean is that really hard? It takes 5 seconds. The other thing about naff controls is lock picking. While using a controller, you can slowly turn the lock, while pressing "A" on a keyboard in lock picking turns the lock real fast, so you could break the pick pretty fast, so you need to be careful. All in all, I cannot wait to spend my weekend on such a surprise. I would also recommend you buy on Steam because by the sounds of it, the retail version sounds like it's broken for the time being. I found it buggy, ugly, and boring, even with mods. I tried Fallout 3 after that, but only found it less ugly and boring but still just as buggy. I almost didn't get Skyrim after this, but I am VERY glad I did. It has exceeded my expectations and is deserving of the hype and accolades.

The graphics on Ultra @ 1080p (thanks to SLI 560 TIs) are beautiful and smooth, and using a 360 controller lets me sit on the couch and enjoy it on the big screen.

I'm not a big RPG fan. I loved Red Dead Redemption, but I think Skyrim is even better. There may be some die-hard E.S. fans that will give this a bad rating because it may not be similar enough to the previous titles, but my guess is that is why I am enjoying it so much.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. This is a game that I was really excited to play. Having played its predecessor, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, and hearing amazing things about this game, I decided to get it over the summer in 2012. Much like Oblivion, Skyrim gives you a massive fantasy world to do whatever you want, and allows you to influence it however you want. So, is this game theThe Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. So, is this game the amazing experience I was promised, or will I have to shout this game to pieces? Let's find out! The gameplay of this game can be explained by what I said earlier: you get to live another life in a fantasy world that you can do whatever you want in, and influence however you choose. As I said, you can literally do whatever you want in this game. You can choose to help or harm the citizens of Skyrim, choose which dungeons you wish to explore, craft potions and armor, or you can just wander throughout Skyrim looking for something to do. Literally, whatever you want to do in Skyrim, you can do it. Whether you are a heroic or villainous character is all up to you. Skyrim is an RPG, so you can expect tons of role-playing game elements as you play the game. You get to create your own character from the start of the game using an amazing character creator. You can decide exactly how your character will look from a variety of options, and it is very simple and easy to use. After you play through the game's first quest, you are free to do what you want in Skyrim. You can play however you choose, whether it be aggressive, magic-based, or stealthy. As you use your character's skills enough times in the game, they will increase in level. Once you level up your skills enough, your overall level will increase. This allows you to increase your character's health, magic, or stamina (once again, this is totally your choice as to which you increase), by ten points. You also get a perk, which you can distribute to one of your skills, that will give it an additional ability. The leveling system is very addictive to say the least, and will probably keep you playing for hours on end. There are also tons of quests to do in Skyrim, further adding to the replay value. Overall, the gameplay in this game is just about the most fun you could possibly have in a video game. As for the graphics, they are every bit as amazing as the gameplay itself. This game boasts a much better graphics engine than Oblivion, and it shows. Everything in Skyrim is decorated with an incredible amount of detail, and makes the game look every bit as good as it plays. From the flora and fauna in the forests of Skyrim, to the cities and towns, to the many dungeons and dragons in the game, this game looks amazing. It also boasts an incredible day and night cycle, along with a weather system, further adding to the game's beauty. As for the story, this game actually has many stories in one. It all depends on what you are looking for. You could always follow a quest's storyline, or you could create a story of your own. This game does have a main quest, in which you are the chosen one, and you must find out why dragons are returning to the world of man. On top of that, you must kill a giant black dragon named Alduin, who's primary goal is to destroy the world. It is a bit of a cliched story, but the way it is told is very original. You will understand why when you play it. There are also factions you can join which have their own stories. Those stories are generally just you joining a faction and doing missions for them until their leader is killed and you rise to become the new leader. However, the way these stories are told is also original. There are also plenty more different kinds of quests in this game, or you can just wander throughout Skyrim, creating your own story for your character. You don't even have to do these quests if you don't want to. Overall, no matter what you decide to do for your character's stories, this game will be amazing either way. Overall, this game was, and still is one of the greatest video games I have ever played. If you do not own this game, you need to get it now. I can easily recommend this game to just about anyone who wants to play a video game. If you do not own this game, you must buy it now! Also, be sure to get the Legendary Edition of this game. That version includes this game, plus all of its DLC (downloadable content).

Skyrim is a game that feels more like... another real life. It's a game that you'll never forget, never hate, and might even cry if you remember your days in it.
It has the soul and game-play and world of an RPG, It's what you will be talking about for years after playing it. The massive open world "that is expandable by expansions (DLC's)" With no Invisible walls whatsoever. The beautiful combat and game-play system. And the precise themes and soundtracks for the game. nearly endless quests, which are all very "AAIG" (Amazingly And Insanely Great) You will never be bored from this game.
And you should as "Joe Vargas" said, get a portable toilet with a strap so you can attach it to your butt while playing. So you won't have to go for the miserable boring toilet seat. You will love all the things for you to do here, Ranging from Crafting to Enchanting to Exploring To Dungeon delving To Finding mysterious places or thing or people To Reading books To Creating your own "Dynamic quests" To Almost everything.
    _________________________________________

The main quest line evolves from a dragon prophecy that states "The dragons will return" lid by an evil one who will bring the end of tamriel, while the civil wars rages throughout the holds. All of this at the same time will ensure a great time in this game. And don't forget that i said the quests are nearly endless, because they are "Literally" . The dragon and civil war thingy is just a fraction of how much quests there are in this game. I could talk about these quests but it would take a very long time to write them. Guys there is A great value for your money here, a great value for the expansions as well.
Have i mentioned that this game will have A Greatly inevitable replay value? No i did not, because it does.
If you have a PC, that's good enough for running games. Then buy Skyrim on it. Because of the mods there are for you to download into this game. Mods are "Custom modifications made by normal players like you".
And these mods really Add to the value of your money, Since those mods never end "Literally said" You can see what these "mods" are by searching for them in youtube.

Now i want to end this Review and tell you to get some money, even if you have to kill for it "Figure of speech", And Buy this game right now, and install mods on, if you bought it on PC. Bugs is really bad, I am reinstalling Skyrim right now, because I can't fast travel, dragons is flying the wrong way which causes big laggs, a lot of quests is just really boring(there is some good ones too, don't get it the wrong way) and dragons are sometimes invincble.

A lot of hipsters hating on this because it's popular, you know the type. They'll say [insert band here] sucks, while they themselves can't sing a note or play an instrument to save their life. It's like saying the Beatles suck; they may not be your type of music, but to just dismiss them as crap is ignorant and petty.

This was my and i am sure a whole lot of other people's most anticipated game of the year and while the game improves on some parts it gets worse in other areas compared to oblivion or simply stays the same and for people playing an elder scrolls game the first time you might give the game a 10 but otherwise it feels dumbed down in many ways. I am first going to start with what has been done right which is the following: The world is once again huge with lots of areas to explore, the insides of dungeons and caves are more distinctive compared to oblivion, the graphics are a decent improvement for a game of this size(although i am only placing this as a pro because there are mods that make it better), the customization has been improved (although not greatly so for a game that has come out 5 years later after it's predecessor), there is an actual variety in vegetation zones compared to oblivion, the NPC's are more realistic and believable, the sound effects and music are very good, one of the greater improvements is the greater variety of combat options(Dual sword wielding, one arm magic one arm sword etc.), the dragon shouts are cool and add more combat tactics to the game, the level scaling has been improved, there are once again many quests and the game CAN provide hours and hours of entertainment, the skill tree and perk system is a nice touch. Now for the cons which unfortunately are many: The game implements very little battle tactics and does not require much technique or skill this is disappointing especially after playing a game such as Dark/Demon's souls, The game's quests are very repetitive(Steal this item, kill this guy/creature, clear this place out, retrieve this item, help this guy out, deliver or collect this/these items... yes and that's about it) and they don't have the same charm or excitement as oblivion did, there is less of a variety in enemies, there is slightly more voices in the game although the variety is simply not good enough of an improvement for five years later especially the female voices, the game is simply not rewarding (Most of the items found at the end of caves and ruins are rubbish as one can simply enchant far better items), the game has a lot of useless skills and activities (Alchemy and Smithing are a waste of time and are only used to level up, nothing good can be made from smithing, Alteration/ Illusion magic are useless as the only good spells that fall under these categories from oblivion have been taken away e.g. Paralysis, Invisibility (Unless i have not attained them yet which is unlikely as I have played 85 hours and have nearly clocked the game)), there is a disappointing variety of spells that can be bought and there are still only three categories for destruction spells (that being fire, electricity and ice) and there are no cool spells that have been added the current spells have simply been improved from oblivion, the leveling up has been dumbed down to three attributes (being health stamina and magic) no longer allowing greater specialization as oblivion had, leveling up in certain skills has no effect and simply unlocks perks of that specific skill, the story is simplistic, unepic, short and in the beginning a bit vague, other main quests are also very short and have not been improved from oblivion and in some cases are worse, gold is the reward mostly for completing quests although gold cannot be used for much at all (if you explore a lot) and is only used in the beginning of the game, Dragons and dragon encounters are cool in the beginning but become tedious/ boring and become pests a lot of the time as they are encountered too frequently, the game offers many shout powers but few are truly useful and effective(quality over quantity), while the level scaling has been fixed there are still problems as once one has unlocked all the perks for one's chosen speciality (one-hand, destruction etc.) one can become weaker as the the game allows only an improvement over health, stamina, magic (not magic strength or melee strength etc.)although this is not that prevalent, there is fewer variety in the creatures that one can summon(Only 4 as far as I know), 90% of what this game has to offer can be experienced and seen in the first 20 hours. Overall this game does not expand and improve enough and was over-hyped and the game is a disappointment in my opinion. I also want to say that the fact that the ps3 version does not work properly is inexcusable!. Not GOTY. 6.5/10. Expand

Because reviews don't mention anything about bad graphics, bad animations, bad physics and bad npcs. Yes, they are good "overall". But the amount of inconsistencies, small bugs in pathfinding, ai, answers, dialogues, physics, ... is really too much to give a full 10/10 to the game. Jsut a small example: are you afraid of giants? No problem: just fight while above something (a rock, a small hill, a log, ...) and they wont be able to climb with you. These kind of "path-problems" is quite common and pretty easy to come across. A great game. Well structured quests, a massive area to explore and improved gameplay over previous games. Skyrim is a big improvement over oblivion but still does not live up to the might of Morrowind.
The new interface is a big improvement but still needs some work. Saving is buggy and there are still random CTD that I have come to expect from Bethesda games. Graphics are also a bit dated.

Skyrim is a decent game that will provide hours of gameplay and fun BUT this is all a moot point for now. with the release of the 1.2 patch it seems that a vast majority of the players experience the dreaded "CTD" error or Crash To Desktop. Want to complete missions? There are hundreds. Want to learn how to make your own weapons and master their use? You can. Want to explore a world that is the size of an actual small nation? This is the only place where you can do that (other than real life, that is). And think of the mods - I play with a few essential ones, and if there isn't something you like (don't complain it's a "made-for-consoles" game, it is, for financial reasons, but you can mod it to make it a pure PC game, e.g. with SkyUI), you can create it. With the included creation kit and the new Steam workshop function, modding is easy, supported and incredibly fun. They didn't make a perfect game, but with mods you can make it perfect for you.
The only reason why you wouldn't enjoy Skyrim is either because you don't like role-playing games or because you don't know what you like. Skyrim opens its doors open wide ajar, and you choose what you do. It's up to you to know what you think is fun, and Skyrim will deliver. An unforgettable classic!

I endeavored to mod Oblivion's half-baked successor into playability, to try and achieve an experience on par with Oblivion (or better yet Fallout New Vegas). I'm sorry to report that all the modding in the world can't save this game - well, at least not when its done by a non-programmer like myself. Skyrim simply cannot escape its dumbed down, form-over-function console roots. The hopelessly poor voice acting, ugly Havok engine and tendency to crash at the drop of a hat..its all still there, waiting to disappoint you profoundly. Considering that each TES title since Daggerfall has been more about pushing the limits of console graphics rather than PC gameplay, I don't even want to think what the next installment will be like. Now we're hearing sickening rumors that the next Fallout may be an MMO. If that comes to pass then any hope for Bethesda's redemption is probably dead. Skyrim was successful for one simple reason: gamers are desperate for *anything* with some actual depth, even if its only the depth of a kiddie pool complete with all the bodily excretions you'd expect. I don't know if its even possible but I would love to see a team of master modders put together a big package of various Skyrim mods that create as much immersion and quality gameplay as possible. I would like to think that with enough talent and hard work this game could be salvaged. As I struggled for well over a hundred of hours of fighting mods and the game's shortcomings I kept seeing little hints of promise glimmering beneath the dull veneer of simplistic gameplay, buggy mechanics and utterly generic story. I wish someone could make Skyrim the game it was hyped as being. Expand

The dungeons and their enemies become redundant. You can crank up the difficulty any time you wish, but at one point you will simply be too strong, even against opponents who're well above your level and the the incredible amount of side-quests become quite tedious after a while. The thing is, you won't notice these things after quite a while and at the time you reach this point you will have got more than enough happiness out of this game than most RPG series will be able to grant you! The insane amount of detail loaded in this game is a milestone and you will surely be able to appreciate it through the amazing voice cast, the beautiful graphics and the mighty Nordic, dark and cold, art-design and soundtrack. As for the story, the trailer (if trailer reviews were a thing, I'd give it a 10) made it sound more epic than it was. It certainly wasn't bad by any means, but I wasn't that enthusiastic for it, luckily there are enough other smaller stories in the game you can dig (honestly, I thought The Dark Brotherhood quest-line was better than both the primary and secondary main quest-line). -- Skyrim has a large world, tons of content, and excellent quests. A compelling story makes you want to not stop playing. The graphics are top notch, the audio is great, and most of the animations are good. If you want a game that will give you many hours (40 hours in and I'm still not done, but I like to see and do everything) and you like fantasy single-player role playing games,-- Skyrim has a large world, tons of content, and excellent quests. A compelling story makes you want to not stop playing. The graphics are top notch, the audio is great, and most of the animations are good. If you want a game that will give you many hours (40 hours in and I'm still not done, but I like to see and do everything) and you like fantasy single-player role playing games, this is a game for you.

    Now, the detractors:
-- 1) The interface on the PC is poor. The interface for the PC looks like it was an afterthought from controller based consoles. The largest detractor is the reliance on a favorites menu to select items to equip. There isn't a favorite item equip hot-swap system, which causes you to scroll through menus repeatedly to switch between magic and weapons. Standard PC RPG elements are missing, such as a minimap, hotbar, backpack, etc. The biggest detractor is the hotbar and customizable keys for specific spells and equipment.

-- Information on the interface is scarce. You cannot see most of the information you need at a glance, such as what all the map locations you've visited and cleared (you must highlight each one). I haven't seen a note interface for the map, either.

-- 2) Movement system is extremely poor.

-- You can jump, walk, and run with movement keys. You cannot tell if something is too steep to run up, aside from sliding back or stopping. There isn't a climbing system, contrary to statements of "you can climb everything" prior to the game's release. If you are slightly sliding, you cannot jump. This leads to getting stuck for a bit while you figure out how to get out of the predicament you got yourself into. You cannot vault over fences or rocks, if your jump is inadequate. You cannot pull yourself up onto a ledge, if it is 1 centimeter higher than your jump height.
    --
-- 3) Graphical glitches such as frame rate drops and texture issues on models exist with my system (core i7-950 with nvidia 560). Crashes occur without details. Since launch just occurred, I'm hoping for patches that will eventually solve these problems. My solution is to save often and restart, when textures do not render and frame rates drop to 1 per second.

    -----

-- With the size of the world, the huge amount of content, and the well done quests, dialog, books, combat, and many other interesting aspects to the game. I give this game a realistic 8. It would be a 9 with a better interface. It would be a 10 with a solid movement system and interface for PC.

I gave Skyrim an 8, not because it has little issues here and there that can be overlooked, but because of the patch that just came out not 3 hours ago. Bethesda thought it would be a good idea to lock down certain parts of the coding and .ini files that make the game actually look and perform better. Why? No idea, probably just to stick it to the PC gamers that figured this out and are actually making the game better than what the people at Bethesda can do. Remember, there's more of us that there are of you. Mods are an essential part of the Elder Scrolls PC version, without those, Skyrim is all but dead. Expand

Companions work well in this game

What's not great about Skyrim: In some ways, feels more wide than deep- main storyline not incredibly intriguing (its a Bethesda game, people), and faction quests, while fun, don't deliver as well on story as they did in Oblivion. Game offers little choice, in comparison to say, Fallout or Dragon Age; most "choice" comes from character development. A lot of side quests lack creativity, made up for in part by varied and interesting dungeons (many side quests are: go to said dungeon, kill this guy/grab this thing). Interface is wonky, mods help.

In the end, this is still an amazing, open-world fantasy RPG. If you want an RPG with an intense story and thought-provoking moral choices, look elsewhere. But I think most people know what they're getting with this game- A beautiful and interesting world with great character development and decent combat.

That said, I'm finding this game much easier to get immersed in than Oblivion. The last two games have started out like a lullabye & only after I had picked up on much of the in game literature, giving me the backstory, did I begin to appreciate the world around me. In Skyrim, the pacing is vastly improved, right out of the gate. For me Fallout 3 was a highpoint in gaming so far (Putting aside any debate on its worthiness as a PC game). The world was dirty, grittier & just felt right. I spent hundreds of hours in the post-apocolyptic world Bethesda created and loved every minute of it. Skyrim, while still an Elder Scrolls game seems to share what worked so well in FO3, the seems grttier, dirtier & just plain old better than Oblivion and Morrowind as well. My biggest disappointment has been to see the return of bad detail on distant lanscapes. That they didnt even try to hide this with DOF in overkill mode or some other graphic "trick" was needless to say disheartening, this combined with some relatively low rez textures on npc clothing & some of the buildings and landscape shows the developers unfortunate need to scale back for the console versions. Take note also that shortly after release there is a problem with shadows looking bad & requiring high resources to render anything past "low". Since I havent had 300+ hours played in game so far (about 20), please take my opinion with a grain of salt but if you can look past the hype and the hang-ups this game will make a real world hermit out of you for the next few months. Cons: some bugs here and there, controls are clearly console-ported and not optimized for pc (but there are mods to fix that), too easy after the first 20-25 hours (see below).

An advice to new players: the difficulty level is fine for the first 10-15 levels, then the game becomes way too easy. To avoid this problem either raise the difficulty when you reach level 15 or, even better, don't improve your weapons/armor ! Improving your armor and weapons is unbalanced because after few hours you will already have super items that are better than everything you can find in npc and dungeons loot. What I do is I only use items I find in loot, or items I buy from shops, or items I craft myself, but I never improve them ! Enchantment is ok, but don't improve items, your immersion and gameplay will be 10x better. Otherwise you will find yourself insta-killing most of enemies and game will become boring.

It does have some flaws, and with the steamworkshop you can find other developers who agree with how you think the game should have been to fix what you think were poor balance choices. This makes for an almost ideal experience.

Issues arise with strange glitches at times, however overall the sheer amount of things to do certainly outshines what annoyances you encounter.

I'm stuck between a 10 or a 1 rating for this game. I really should have purchased the Xbox version, because the PC version is so prone to glitching, lagging, and crashing that it makes the game near unplayable. I can barely play the game anymore because it crashes so much and so often. The game itself is excellent no doubt. I just wish I could play it.

Well, I'll start from the worst traits of this good RPG. First of all: enemies adapt their level to your own. Well, for newcomers of RPG it sounds great, but it's really disappointing for those seeking a REAL RPG. You can finish the game at level 67 (as I did) or you can at 17. Let's go on. Perks ! These are the new way Bethesda choose to align TES new chapter to all other MMORPGS outta there. But why they did such a bad work? Some traits are useless. Some traits at 100 points are overridden by enchanted items, irritating to discover when you can't reassign perks in any way ! Oh, there's another thing about traits. You'll need only about 20-30 of them to become nearly unstoppable. Last chapter: crafting. Crafting is good, but in TES: Skyrim it is so overpowered that you'll never need anything more than what you can craft with materials bought from merchants. So it's frustrating to put your own hands on a Daedric artifact and discovering that it's far from being even nearly comparable to your crafted and enchanted sword. Dragon Shouts: well, they give the game the right folklore. But in real game you'll use only 3-4 of them. The others are there only to feed your hungry for hoarding items/skills/Dragon shouts.
So Skyrim is a bad game? Isn't it worth the bucks spent? Well, I say that it's a good game. But while I played it for 183 hours at first It was nearly impossible for me to hit the ESC-key and return to the desktop. At the end it was too easy to do. The story becomes so confused if you are to follow every dumb request of side-quests that NPC's give you. And in the end the main plot isn't that good you would expect from a single-player RPG.
I give this game a 7 because it is OVER ALL a good game. You'll enjoy roaming in Skyrim, hunting beasts, backstabbing enemies, incinerate enemies and fight dragons. In the end probably you'll find a dragon attack as something boring at most or a quick-fight just to allow you to quick-travel to your destination.
I hope the expansion will fix some of these problems. And I hope that Bethesda will CHANGE PERKS to give player a REAL interest in climbing the tree to the top perk. Near the end of the game I shifted my mage in assassin just with 6 perks...

Though glitches were expected with the first release, i got the feeling that glitches only increased after the first patch. Add to that some game breaking elements and this game avoids getting a 10 for it's lack of relevant bug fixing. Without getting too "professional" et IGN who's sole purpose seems to be to shut out the community for which these games meet their demand, i can say that this game exceeds my expectations, especially if the Skyrim Creation Kit pulls through as expected or on par with Oblivion's Modding Tools. I can see where the frustration comes in when gameplay is mentioned, though it is innovative and fascinating to plow through combat. The main issue i have is that the game seems to be comping elements from other popular games. And while a sprint function is something TES needs IMO, i wouldn't rip off other elements of unreal's restrictive gameplay style by limiting the overall customization of the game (ending with skills being horrendously wittled down). Overall this game is great for it's par, but the engine could be used to a much better purpose than a restrictive and more beautiful version of oblivion. This is not to demean the developers in any way, but where Oblivion excelled was it's innovation and preservation of the things that made morrowind and the other games so great. Skyrim takes all of that and tries to run with the skeleton. Expand

Sure you have a vast world to explore but the many interactions with AI and the environment are weak. The AI triggers during battle are broken (had a guard say "that was just a scratch" while falling dead? Really?). Small things such as being able to run through a dragon skeleton like its a hologram saddened me, considering the developer created such a large world only to disregard collisions, really basic stuff. Melee combat is a joke: Hold mouse to hit just a bit harder at the cost of most of your stamina and on top of that expect to take a few hits while you charge up your strike, only to have the enemy shrug it off as if they got hit by a feather. The worst aspect of his game has to be the builds. The armor and weapons you find allow for little variety so your likely to end up with a hybrid of all sorts. All in all, Skyrim seems to run on an old engine that allows for little breakthrough in terms of actual game play and more so in terms of appearance and so you will probably be bored throughout unless your exploring dungeons and caves, which imo is not really new to the gaming world but still fun as always. The detail and the fun of exploring the huge world, doing quests without restraint is incredibly satisfying. This game definitely deserves the game of the year title. But I am still disappointed in it, because it is not to me a game which has been properly balanced. Yes, such a huge game is very difficult to make perfect. So how does the balance hurt the game? The potions are completely useless since you don't need them to win fights, and because they don't give a good enough advantage. Compared to games like The Witcher where potions changed the outcome of the battle, their implementation here is completely retarded. They will just clog up your inventory space and be useless. Second balance issue, the actual fighting. There are some tactics to kill even the hardest bosses, you just have to sneak and use cheesy strategies. Thirdly, the difficulty. This is the least significant balance issue as it is not that bad but eventually things will just be too EASY. Fourthly, item upgrades, similarly to potions, they have a less than worth it impact on fights. To make every part of the huge game count, every type of upgrade and potion should have a big effect on the scaling of battle. That way it would give an incentive to actually use them. It's also insulting that a company like Bethesda would make such a bad console port with **** interfaces and controls when they could have used the full potential of mouse. Alright well, the reason these flaws are so maddening to me is that the game is so close to perfection that it's frustrating that it isn't. It really makes me mad. Because instead of playing this games 150 hours, I have played 30 hours, and am now done. Still, worthy of a 9. Expand

The thing I really love about this game is that you can just wander around the enormous world. Also you can adjust the game with mods from workshop and console to fit the style you like to play (for example - increase weight limit, remove level cap, remake buff mechanics, add spells/perks/quests/items/money/locations/textures/etc.). I'm level 80 now (max is 60.. or 50 :) ) and not even close to the main quest end - it is still very interesting just to explore new locations.
First I played an illegal copy (no demo exists, shame on you!) and it was really buggy, but by the time I bought a legal one those where fixed. Little bugs still occur sometimes, like misplaced textures and that sort of stuff.
I remember now just 3 disappointing things: 1) After installation of more than 50 mods if I run far enough while game is autosaving it sometimes freezes (may be a bug of a particular mod, who knows); 2) 9 shortcuts for spells/gear/shouts is not enough for me, I'd like to have an ability to make more of them (for example, not only 1-9, but also Ctrl+1, Alt+1, F1 - something like Lineage II and other MMOs). 3) Master spells of destruction where quite disappointing for the first time - you can't move while you cast them, so they were useless with my playstyle.
Also I would like to mention that if you know the way you like to play - Skyrim has some possibilities of gameplay customization. On the other side, if you'll install every mod you see (without thinking) it may ruin the game. Just play a vanilla one then :) .
I think Skyrim deserves a 9.5, but in comparison with other games on the market I'll give it a strong 10.

Although the game world is not as big as Daggerfall you may actually be glad that it is not because you will never get laid as all you will want to do is play this game if it were. I, to this day, have absolutely no problem dumping 6-8 hour sessions into this game. The story isn't fantastic, but it is more than sufficient enough to bring you back to it to obtain the special skills and weapons that it provides, but everyone knows that isn't why you play Skyrim. You play Skyrim for exploring the massive world, and it certainly doesn't fail to deliver on that. With all the patches that have been released the few issues remaining with the game are more than likely coming with all the mods that you have installed that can make this beautiful game look even better, or add even more deep gameplay. Congratulations Skyrim you have made it onto my top 3 games of all time list. Expand

The best game I've ever played. If it wasn't for having to patch it before it was mostly playable i would have given it a 10. The graphics are awesome and the quests are very entertaining. I wish more games like this were made but its seems only Bethesda does it right. I have so many hours in this game and I still can't get enough of it.

However unlike most i can play on max settings without a single hiccup. Also many people don't seem to understand that you can change the difficulty. The default is adept. In my opinion killing 3 bandits master level difficulty is more difficult than getting a killstreak of 75 on call of duty (which i have done) against real people. But my point is these reviews were made before anyone other than testers truly played the game. My main point is, don't judge until you know the ins and outs of the game world, controls, and overall story. Thank you for your time. Which makes the game play endless. So why the 7.0 and not a 10 you ask? Where the game fell short was the horrible amount glitches and bugs. Some of which were very easy to fix through the console command. Others required a ton of research and trial and error. The companion quest line had a lot glitchs in particular The problem with glitchs is you get them in middle quest line which doesn't allow you progress in the game. Bethesda really needs to come out with a patch update to address this issue. My advice to someone playing through the game for first time is make sure you have multiple save files @ different times. This game would have gotten a 9.0, but because of tech probs I can only give it 7.0. Expand

I'm reviewing my 1.6 build of "Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim" (much improved version with far less bugs than the original one). As an introduction I'll say that I've been playing pc RPGs for years. I started playing in 1997, my first one was the mythical "Diablo" followed by "Baldur's Gate", "Neverwinter Nights" and so on...

As you can see, this review is not written by some inexperienced player with no knowledge about the genre... I'm rating it a 9 only because this game is excellent, not just because I like it.
This game has cursed me, I can no longer play another RPG without realizing that "Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim" simply kicks his ass.
Skyrim has a nearly unmatched graphic engine (not only for RPG standards), an unmatched world design (I've never seen such a massive detailed world, it's almost unlimited, gorgeous, wild and full of life. You can go anywhere inside the map...an Skyrim isn't exactly small), a well designed character development system (It was about time! At last you can combine whatever skills you want without any character limitations! You have plenty of USEFUL skills to develop, and I have never seen a better level-up interface, by the way). The overall design is simply superb: landscape, weapons, armors, buildings, characters, interfaces...
Every time you swing your sword, shoot your bow, block, etc. a counter will trigger allowing you to increase your experience in that specific skill, thus allowing you to master the skills you use most (you can also learn from people, as long as you have the coin). You can forge your own weapons, armor and jewelry in many different materials and styles (you can even mine those materials right from the rocks), also you can enchant any items you forge with an assorted range of spells, you can buy houses, horses, spell books, etc.
I'm telling all this only because I think it's worth noticing, I've never seen such depth in a pc RPG before...
and believe me, it's pretty easy to do each one of these things by using the interface.
Finally I want to talk about the general scheme and missions. This can be Skyrim's "Achilles heel".
This game HAS a main scheme that follows the steps of the "Dragonborn" (I don't want to spoil anything, so this is all I'm going to say about it), there is also a secondary scheme that makes you pick a side in Skyrim's Civil War (Imperials vs. Stormcloaks). Aside from these two main schemes, there are hundreds of missions and tasks across the towns and cities of Skyrim, you'll be pretty busy almost all the time, don't worry. I said that this was some kind of "Achilles heel" because nothing compels you to finish your missions, and there is almost no hierarchy between them, you could say that you are free to explore the wilderness of Skyrim, you can play at your own pace almost without worrying about the missions. Some people like that, some others don't, it's up to you.
A real weak spot of the game is the difficulty level. Unless you set your game difficulty settings to "expert" or above, you won't find any real challenge during the game...you'll kill any foe without fearing for your chances of winning. Another "limitation" of the game (it's not big deal for me, but it is for some people) is the "simplicity" of design in hostile caves and fortresses. There is plenty of hostile caves/mines/fortresses in Skyrim and they are superbly detailed, the "problem" is that there is only ONE way to go, you can't get lost...and when you reach the end, there's almost always a shortcut that takes you directly to the entrance. Surely Bethesda studios did this in order to save time and to keep the pace of the game. Lastly, the combat system could be better (it's still far superior to any KOTOR/Neverwinter Nights/Dragon Age combat systems), I'd prefer some kind of "Witcher 2" combat, but nothing is ever perfect so I'm satisfied with Skyrim's combat.

I don't rate it a 10 because the game has various bugs (they've corrected many of them in 1.6 build, but there are still some issues to be fixed).

Anyways, this is the best and most detailed pc RPG I've ever played...and I fear it'll be for many years to come. Bethesda people have set the bar way too high, I think it'll be quite difficult for anyone to beat them.

Unfortunately, Skyrim trips and falls on its own (most probably, to make the cool-sounding deadline of 11-11-11) and just before it reaches perfection as the ultimate specimen of its genre, it self-destructs in a crucial aspect of game design: the interface and the peripheral components (inventory, journal, map, etc)... but that is not to say that Skyrim is anything but a truly majestic, epic RPG that will suck you right in its cosmos.
