    Starfield feels soulless and heartless. It lacks what made past Bethesda games so great: organic exploration. The story is boring, voice acting is mediocre, and the character faces are embarrassingly bad. And for a space game, Starfield seems to hate the idea of space. There is essentially zero actual space flight. No taking off, no landing, no super speeding through a solar system. JustStarfield feels soulless and heartless. It lacks what made past Bethesda games so great: organic exploration. The story is boring, voice acting is mediocre, and the character faces are embarrassingly bad. And for a space game, Starfield seems to hate the idea of space. There is essentially zero actual space flight. No taking off, no landing, no super speeding through a solar system. Just loading screens. That's what Starfield is; menus and loading screens. It feels like a game that had alot of ambitious ideas and not enough time to execute them. Hopefully modders can do the work that Bethesda failed to do.… Expand

    They spent too much time and effort on the wrong things, I don't want to collect 10000s of small objects like wooden toys, I want to sit in my spaceship and travel SEAMLESSLY between planets and systems. This game is a big missed opportunity with a really barebones version of space.

    I went and especially got a gamepass subscription for it, waited for 120gb download and uninstalled the game in 4 hours of playtime.

    The jank and clunkyness is so extreme. No FOV slider in 2023, the UI runs at 30fps, the shooting feels and sounds like a 2004 game, way too much fast travel, no ground vehicles, its a horrible experience.

    BETHESDA IS INCAPABLE OF MAKING A NEXT GEN GAME.

    +20h in: so far to me it is okay, but really nothing special. I'm not disappointed, but it's not what many people wanted the game to be/pretend it was.
    Game of the year should definitely become BG3.

    I was hoping I would get Space Skyrim - a vast open world to lose myself in like I did with Skyrim so many years ago. What I got is a boring mess of buggy time waste.

    Where in Skyrim I got almost executed, attacked by a dragon and fought my way through many enemies in the first hour, Starfield makes you slog through hours and hours of basically nothing.     How big was the hype... But what do we have here? A game with extremely bad synchronization. Countless bugs. Ugly faces... The whole game looks like a Fallout with a new coat of paint.
    The game is not bad, but not good either.

    A fitting comparison would be Elex 2.

    Baldur's Gate 3, for example, is a whole other world of quality in every way.

    I cannot believe Todd rejected the fact that this game has serious optimization issues on PC. You cannot normalize 30 target FPS for recommended specs. Totally ridiculous!

There is simply no excuse for a game to look this bad and be plagued with loading screens. Even EVE Online is better and that game is 20 years old. This is simply a massive    Fire Todd Howard.

    I'm beginning my review with that statement because if ANY company produced a disappointment such as this, compounded with lies from the person in charge, that person would be dismissed immediately. There is simply no excuse for a game to look this bad and be plagued with loading screens. Even EVE Online is better and that game is 20 years old. This is simply a massive failure, made even worse by the fact that games like Zelda: TOTK and BG3 were released this year with tons of polish and quality.

    I am still playing it in the hopes that something clicks, but the immersion I expected will probably never be there. I'll move over to Star Citizen or NMS for my space exploration needs. This ain't it.

    Nevertheless, I can't seem to stop playing. That has to count for something so I'm giving it a 5 with the potential to be an 8 or 9 if they fix some (major) things.    … Expand

    Ich hatte mich sehr auf dieses Spiel gefreut, wurde aber leider massiv enttäuscht. Es ist mehr ein Shooter als ein RPG, meine Handlungen oder die Dialoge haben so gut wie kein,e Auswirkung auf das Spielgeschehen. Es hat einfach keine Konsequenzen, ich kann tun was ich möchte, das Umfeld reagiert nicht darauf. Die Flüge im All sind lächerlich, man ist in einer Sandbox, dreht sich bissleIch hatte mich sehr auf dieses Spiel gefreut, wurde aber leider massiv enttäuscht. Es ist mehr ein Shooter als ein RPG, meine Handlungen oder die Dialoge haben so gut wie kein,e Auswirkung auf das Spielgeschehen. Es hat einfach keine Konsequenzen, ich kann tun was ich möchte, das Umfeld reagiert nicht darauf.     > Took 7 years to make > 1 year delay > Same engine from 2006 > 10 Guns in the WHOLE game > Same planets > Bad ai. Not worth your money, Ubisoft's try for no man's sky was better than this you should buy that instead it's cheaper and the exploration feeling was WAY better.

Oh boy after 60 hours it gets really boring, especially the facial expressions, horrific lipsyncs (if they ever work...), sometimes really bad performance, crashes and a lot of plot holes.

    This game so is ugly (these faces wtf), so bugged (yeah Bethesda), and so badly optimised (insane drops in cities) but the biggest dissapointing is a big lie about exploring planets. Firstly - most planets are empty and boring, secondly - you can explore only small fragment of the planet becaouse of invisible walls... really Bethesda?
    Better to play No Mans Sky.

    If you really need to scratch an itch and play a future type game with spaceships, and want to do it for almost no money, then play it via gamepass. Do NOT BUY the game.

    As for RPG style, choices and graphics.... this is a 0 out of 10. Graphics (environment), NPC faces, animations, etc are absolutely last gen or worse. Think Xbox360 at worst and bad Xbox One at best. Textures on people, ships and building can look really good. Just don't expect the foliage or people to look that way. Don't get me started on the constant loading for everything you do.
    Any choices you think you have, think again. NO choices affect anything. Your skill choices and your actual actions that you think may affect dialogues or quests NEVER affect anything. Don't believe me and want proof, search for the MarcoStyle youtuber, as he explains what is happening. I don't have a youtube channel or the time for that. Factor in the insane bugs, think Cyberpunk 2077 release, except we know that that game was released 2 yrs too early and Starfield was given almost an EXTRA year to polish this junk.
    Overall, this game rates higher than a zero because they *could* fix the bugs and maybe improve textures and I really liked the ships, despite not being able to use them like I thought I would.    … Expand

    Graphics is decent but some are not policed, Story is generic, AI is bad it's from other game.
    you go. played 25 hours + and feels like a waste of time. you do the same thing over and over and it's not rewarding. there's no reason to have strong equipment because AI is dumb. I had fun on fallout 4 more. I respect those people who love this game but personally this game is bad.

    inventory is a huge problem, You can't loot five enemies without being overweight. Combat is really bad. There are no enemy ai what so ever. Animations are from 2010. Good graphic and environment design but low resolution. Using a spaceship is meaningless. Has lots of missions like Skyrim. Extreme amounts of bugs.

    Generic shooter, classic Bethesda bugs, it is ridiculous how they manage to do always the same game. 0 EXPLORATION, boring gameplay. Conversations are literally marvel dialogues. Not even close to Skyrim.

    I fell in love with Starfield. It's my cup of sci-fi and I can't wait to spend the next thirty, fifty, maybe seventy hours here. I enjoy the exploration, the shootouts, the art style, the ship building, and the diverse worlds. I gratefully acknowledge the good optimization and the absence of major bugs. But I can't overlook the flaws. There are bad animations, ugly faces and repetitive moments.[Issue#329]

    In a year dominated by sequels to franchise favorites, there was a hope that Starfield would carve its own path to success. While the team at Bethesda should be commended for taking such a big swing, there’s no denying that the game doesn’t feel like a cohesive work. Maybe continued support and future sequels will make something more meaningful out of a work that is clearly deeply enamored with both science fiction and space exploration. Unforunately, this first launch has had far more mixed results than desired.
