Detective work works, but needless action elements make this worst Sherlock so far. [Aug 2016]

Shelock Holmes : The Devil's Daughter is a nice step to evolve the IP into something more substantial. Conservative enough to satisfy the fans, and new enough to draw in young players.

Sherlock Holmes: The Devil’s Daughter is another solid entry into this long-running franchise.

To uncover the truth, you’ll have to possess not only deductive skills, but a considerable patience as well: puzzles “pull a lever, push a button, try to figure out what happened” and chase sequences are unreasonably long. Even though you’d think that a game about Sherlock would have you play as Sherlock, not as Indiana Jones wannabe. [Issue#211, p.73]

Sherlock Holmes: The Devil's Daughter is an uneven game. Making Sherlock younger and having him take part in action scenes was a good idea but the execution is poor at best. Still there are some excellent mini-games, interesting investigation and a truly great deduction board. If only the game handled it's characters better it would be glorious. The end result is ok but the potential is far from being fully realized.

Sherlock took a few long steps away from the adventure toward the action gaming again. Although someone might actually like this change, fans of the original game won’t be satisfied. [Issue#265]

Three weak cases, one decent, and a lackluster finale make Sherlock Holmes: The Devil's Daughter a marked step back from its predecessor.

As someone who 1) has not played any prior Sherlock Holmes games, and 2) has not read any of the books (I know, I'm sorry), I *thoroughlyAs someone who 1) has not played any prior Sherlock Holmes games, and 2) has not read any of the books (I know, I'm sorry), I *thoroughly enjoyed* this game and give it a hearty recommendation!

    Pros:
    - Loved the characters! Holmes, Watson, and all the suspects and supporting characters do an excellent job of making the world feel alive and believable. I assume Holmes is different in the books, but since I haven't had the pleasure of reading them, I didn't mind Holmes' acting or emotions. It made him feel quite relatable. In fact, I would have found an emotionless, mechanical Sherlock Holmes rather perturbing (for example, I can't stand Benedict Cumberbatch's BBC Sherlock--but again, that's just me).
    - You really feel like a detective! The game mechanics are really good and I love that you get to observe each character and make split-second decisions/inferences about them that can either be right or wrong and that these deductions can correctly or incorrectly inform your subsequent judgements. The "Deductions Space" is also really cool. This is where your gathered mental notes can be connected to each other to form potential judgements. The different branching choices with the clue combinations is impressive.
    - You can switch between 3rd and 1st person views. This might sound minor, but is greatly appreciated when you're trying to read signs or details in a room.
    - The game can be played in bite sized chunks and the game saves after most interactions so there's little to no backtracking.

    Cons:
    - Mini-games offer a nice variety and break from the normal game, but do feel inconsistent in quality, especially compared to the main game. Some mini-games are delightful and others border on slightly tedious.
    - The ending is rather abrupt and doesn't tie whole game together as one might anticipate. The game seems to hint that your "Moral Decisions" for each case will have an effect on the later part of the game, but it fails to deliver in any meaningful way. I wish the cases were somehow tied together on a grander scale.
    - The game is on the shorter side, but personally I like games this length since they actually hold my attention long enough to finish them.
    - On my machine there was massive stuttering when I first load a new area. It would disappear after a few seconds. Annoying, but not a deal-breaker.

All that said, I can't wait to now go play the other Sherlock games, especially Crimes & Punishments!

The game is full of some mini games some may not be fond of but everything is skipable (at least on normal mode). I played on normal mode as I was looking for just a relaxing game where I could just sit back and think.

There are 5 chapters in the game and each their own case. You must solve some puzzles and piece together clues to make a deduction. There are two or more suspects and you must select who is at fault and their fate at the end of each case. This can be challenging and really has you have to think of all the events and make a conclusion.

You can tell this game was made with care and while not a AAA title it does its best and I think the outcome is a game anyone wanting to solve mysteries and crimes would enjoy. The first case has a bit too many mini games (one that is "dog" gone ridiculous) but I suggest anyone turned off at least try the second case. My favorite by far was the last two cases.

It's a good adventure crime game with involving narrative and dialogues,My first Sherlock Holmes game and even my first detective-based game. It's a good adventure crime game with involving narrative and dialogues, the deduction and evidences part are very well-programmed and there are some hard puzzles which give you the feeling of being a real detective. Graphics and Environment design are so cool. I can't say same for mechanism of the game.
The game features five separate cases in semi-open world map. Each case has its own good plot but The Temple mission in one of cases was totally nonsense.
And also I expected two different endings for the game but however it was so linear that it forces you to make right decisions!
As far as I know it's only Frogwares that makes these kind of games and it's really good. However there were few problems with the game.
But it's worth playing at least for once.
