Sherlock Holmes: The Devil’s Daughter is an amazing experience, that takes this series further than on the last generation of consoles. The game presents interesting cases with lots of variation, both in atmosphere and game design.

Overall, Sherlock Holmes: The Devil’s Daughter is a great game. The cases are captivating and many of the minigames are a lot of fun.

Sherlock Holmes: The Devil's Daughter introduces new and interesting elements capable of making Sherlock Holmes a more human and charismatic character with some welcome additions in gameplay too, like the new first person mode. It's still got some of the series known defects though, like low-detailed characters and bad animations, while load times can often be exhausting.

This title offers a typical Sherlock Holmes storyline and an easy completion, but its issues turn this into a mediocre affair rather than the elementary experience that you would expect from Holmes himself.

A promising follow-up to C&P let down by its insistence on badly designed set-pieces. [Aug 2016, p.78]

The game isn’t without its issues, the load times are borderline ridiculous at times and there’s no tutorial so you’ll spend most of the first act scratching your head in confusion. All non-crime solving elements are mind-numbingly boring, but the game overall fills a niche in the gaming world that we don’t see done nearly enough in most games. When you’re bored doing laps on a circuit or shooting foes on the battlefield, take some time out and pick up The Devil’s Daughter. As a crime-solver, it does alright.

An utter embarrassment to an relatively solid series, The Devil’s Daughter falls into every cliché mistake of trying to cater to a massive audience. Overuse of QTEs, terrible action sequences, oversimplification and a lackluster story are just some of the complaints behind this massive letdown by Frogwares, giving us the worst Sherlock Holmes adventure in the past 25 years.

Overall a decent game, both visually and artistically, and so far the story seems intriguing.

My major gripe though is the way the investigation process goes. Each scene you enter has a number of fixed items you can interact with. Many of these are useless, in terms of informational content as related to the investigation. However, if you do not find EVERY SINGLE ONE of these items, the game will not progress. Why couldn't the designers come up with a way to move the story forward, even if you don't find 100% of every useless interaction in each scene? If I know to go to the Pub, because I found a flyer in a coat pocket talking about said Pub, why do I need to specifically click on the sticky backing of the flyer to find out "it might have been pulled down from a wall" in order to actually enter the Pub?!?

However, it has a script that fails in some decisions, the mechanics are repetitive and the story ends up not sustaining the weight that it initially seemed to have. it has good noir moments and good terrifying moments. A good game, but nothing more. Expand

If you create a Sherlock Holmes game you can probably expect to mostly generate interest people from who are previous fans of the Sherlock holmes. It makes little sence to move so completely away from the feel of the original protagonists. You can reimagine the setting (as in House, MD or Cumberbatch's modern day Sherlock) or stay true (like the Jeremy Bratt stories) bur if you lose the essence of Holmes and Watson you are also likely to lose the appeal. It certainly holds none to me. Expand

You take wild stabs at what you think the ending might be and maybe you'll randomly get the one "right" answer (even though you were given no narrative hints).

If you have anxiety about getting things wrong in games like this, be prepared to use a walkthrough -- unlike LA Noire and a million other games that capture whodunnit gameplay correctly, this one is complete trash.

I didn't get this title to play low-rent versions of ten other games (looking at you, horrible Uncharted-ripoff "temple" sequence.) I wanted to be the world's greatest detective.

Based on this piece of trash I won't play another Holmes game from this developer. Between the horrible gameplay decisions and the bugs it's a complete dishonor to a prestige franchise.
