This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I think it's not an adventure game, but an mind one, you gotta have good deduction skills, such as Sherlock.
The best part of the game: The human hunt.
The worst: The stealth part in Infamy (Really hate this part)
The game doesn't follow the original story series, but it makes it to have a world for itself, with charismatic characters and involving narrative and dialogues, the deduction and evidences part are very well-programmed.
Just didn't like that when you finish you don't have anything else to do.

It is very good. Not the miracle, but I like the idea of deducing work in the end of each case. Guys really put a lot to make you feel a real detective.

    Pros:
    - Loved the characters! Holmes, Watson, and all the suspects and supporting characters do an excellent job of making the world feel alive and believable. I assume Holmes is different in the books, but since I haven't had the pleasure of reading them, I didn't mind Holmes' acting or emotions. It made him feel quite relatable. In fact, I would have found an emotionless, mechanical Sherlock Holmes rather perturbing (for example, I can't stand Benedict Cumberbatch's BBC Sherlock--but again, that's just me).
    - You really feel like a detective! The game mechanics are really good and I love that you get to observe each character and make split-second decisions/inferences about them that can either be right or wrong and that these deductions can correctly or incorrectly inform your subsequent judgements. The "Deductions Space" is also really cool. This is where your gathered mental notes can be connected to each other to form potential judgements. The different branching choices with the clue combinations is impressive.
    - You can switch between 3rd and 1st person views. This might sound minor, but is greatly appreciated when you're trying to read signs or details in a room.
    - The game can be played in bite sized chunks and the game saves after most interactions so there's little to no backtracking.

    Cons:
    - Mini-games offer a nice variety and break from the normal game, but do feel inconsistent in quality, especially compared to the main game. Some mini-games are delightful and others border on slightly tedious.
    - The ending is rather abrupt and doesn't tie whole game together as one might anticipate. The game seems to hint that your "Moral Decisions" for each case will have an effect on the later part of the game, but it fails to deliver in any meaningful way. I wish the cases were somehow tied together on a grander scale.
    - The game is on the shorter side, but personally I like games this length since they actually hold my attention long enough to finish them.
    - On my machine there was massive stuttering when I first load a new area. It would disappear after a few seconds. Annoying, but not a deal-breaker.

All that said, I can't wait to now go play the other Sherlock games, especially Crimes & Punishments!

There were not a lot of improvements in the gameplay part, the mysteries and cases are not fully understood or figured out, you might get confused and get things wrong because there should have been a clue somewhere to help but there isn't.
This game focus a lot on action events now instead of puzzle or investigation per se, there are moments where you will have to make 4 to 5 time sensitive action parts on just one case, or puzzle after puzzle after puzzle when the best part was always being a detective and finding clues and putting them together. The side characters, other than Holmes and Watson, go from annoying to forgettable.
That is not to say that this game is bad, is just a safe continuation from the first one, the main story feels very well connected but the twist, for those who don't know or haven't played the other games, is predictable. In some sections the game delivers very well the eerie moments that, when I think about it, I never felt this eerie in a Sherlock Holmes game before.

This game doesn't have a very high budget, as you can see some savings, but something that it doesn't save is in the script, very well written, different from several AAA games out there. I thought the third case was somewhat unsolved, none of the suspects seemed right. The last case I thought was pretty much too.

What I found most interesting is that you miss the culprit, always leaving you with one foot behind and theorizing a lot.

I liked how Sherlock is idealized by others, he has defects, is manipulative, has family problems and does everything to solve a case without caring about the feelings of others. But he is certainly a great detective.

The game is simply great. It might not be the best of the Sherlock Holmes Series, but, as most of the games that Frogwares Presentes for this series, is incredible. It is really worth playing, and even more if you like Sherlock Holmes. However, I suggest playing "The Testament of Sherlock Holmes" before if you want to understand what the story is about.

While the uneven Devil’s Daughter doesn’t reach the heights of previous games in the series, there is enough here to warrant a playthrough and fans can safely add this to their expanding collection of the super sleuth’s adventures.

It's more like a collection of Sherlock-themed mini-games with a AAA-range price tag, rather than a seamless experience.

Detective work works, but needless action elements make this worst Sherlock so far. [Aug 2016]
