Sekiro is by far the hardest Fromsoftware game yet. So much so I even disliked the game for nearly 6 months before I enjoyed it. Once I took the time and learned how to play its unique style it made me truly feel achieved by overcoming its massive difficulty.

As most people probably already know, the game is very challenging. Took me about 100 hours to complete the game and I'd say about 30% of that was grinding to level up skill and 30% of it was getting my ass kicked over and over again on the boss fights. It took me like an hour to defeat the first mini boss! Spent 8 hours on a couple of bosses each. Of course this goes way quicker if you actually look up tips on how to fight the boss which I would not consider cheating because even after you know what needs to be done, executing it, is quite another story in and of itself. The story was OK but the VO acting was pretty darn good though. I am in NG+ and it seems to have very little replayability IMO. Its no Bloodborne but I would say I like it better than the Dark Souls series which I can't seem to get into as much. If you are into Japanese lore and like a challenging game I think it is worth a peek. Expand

I gave up, for now. It's so annoying that other users rate so many games 10, because it dilutes the potency of my own 10, which I've come specifically here to award to my all time favourite games.

The game is pretty solid, but I suggest that you go in trying to completely forget everything you know and love about Dark Souls. As a lot of comments here have expressed, you'll be disappointed greatly as things like: building your own character, backtracking and getting stronger, co-op, and even efficiently dodging attacks is just basically not something you'll find here. This game's tough, I'd say the hardest of all Miyazaki games given that most of your meaningful progress is based on whether or not you are able to defeat a VERY strong boss/mini-boss, which sucks in a way because I can't talk about this game with my friends because they simply couldn't keep up with the difficulty (and that's perfectly fine, no need to throw that **** cancerous and overused "Git Gud" meme). But if you take the time, learn the mechanics, and even realize how many weaknesses the enemies have that can be exploited to your advantage, you'll figure your way through and hopefully have a good time
What really rubs me the wrong way with this game though, is that, after so many years, FromSoft still doesn't seem to be willing/capable of fixing the serious camera issues. It's particularly more noticeable with this Purple Ninja mini-boss that you'll find inside a very VERY tight spot. Your camera will go absolutely crazy, even if you stand still, this enemy has the tendency of kicking you pretty far away, into a corner, where you can hardly see ****

I started to pass the second time, reached Genichiro, passed it, I think finally I killed him and the last phase begins, I just deleted the game. Now I went for the third time and started again and lo and behold, I began to like it, and I really like it. All who whine that it is impassable you just need to adapt and study the enemy's attacks. I write a review right after the murder of Isshin Asin, this was the best boss fight in my entire life, I even somehow remained with 5 flasks of medicine. XD The plot is similar in structure to dark souls, the same unfriendliness, a small narrative of the plot and understanding it through objects. But the most interesting thing is that even a chip with constant rebirths and repetitions of the world. Just great! Expand

The story is engaging, dialogue is well-written, and voice acting is excellent - I played with Japanese audio and would recommend it. Boss and level design are outstanding. SEKIRO is very challenging at times but, faced with determination, it is enormous fun. My heart was pounding every time I came close to beating, and eventually did beat, a difficult boss. A serious test of your concentration, and reflexes.

    The Good

    - the fights can be frustrating but after you beat it, it feels satisfying. When I finally beat the game, it felt like a long journey finally complete.

    - have to be careful when to heal. Keeps the tension up even when you are half health, even if you have a bunch of healing items.

    - I like how the saving is done. It prevents save scumming to retain XP and money.

    - the posture and health battle mechanic is clever. It forces the player to parry, and learn the pattern and timing of the enemy's moves, instead of just blocking forever. The game rewards you for parrying successfully. A fight can be over fast if you are good at it. Long and stressful if you are bad at it. Hence, it rewards skill, which is great.

    - Enemies and bosses are unique. Each boss encounter threw something interesting your way. Every fight was a new challenge.

    - The visual style is really cool, if you like historical Japan/Asia. The design of the enemies and allies were interesting too. Involving spirits and mythical creatures was a nice touch.

    The Bad

    - the respawn points for a boss fight should be right before the Boss encounter. Having the spawn point so far back just causes unnecessary travel time. Every death you are guaranteed a death screen, a loading screen, and walking to the boss fight. These three things add up. It may only take about 30 seconds in total, but when you die 30 or 50 times it adds up to a lot of unnecessary time loss.

    - skills in the skill tree could have used a video or gameplay sample before the player decides if they want it or not. XP is precious in the game cause you can lose it so easily. Knowing exactly what you're spending it on is important. Text explanation simply isn't detailed enough.

    - the respawn points annoyed me so much I decided to use a trainer to just practice the boss fight, before taking it on for real.

    - the grappling points on the trees against the Guardian Ape boss was very finicky. I would be trying to grapple the monkey but end up grappling the tree.

    - lock on can be finicky sometimes too, especially against lady butterfly. If the poles break your line of sight with her for too long, you lose the lock on. Or if she goes too far away, the lock on will also disappear.

    - the camera can feel wonky sometimes

    - items being used up after a lost battle made me not want to use them in case I needed them for a hard boss fight. In the end I didn't use any buff items because of that reason. Losing money and XP is one thing, but losing items after a boss fight is kind of annoying. Perhaps there could have been a better way they could have done this, while still retaining the difficulty.

    - it was really hard to get much of the extra skills because I kept losing XP from losing boss battles. I decided to farm XP off of weak enemies. This took forever. This felt inevitable because I had to go back to the boss fights over and over to learn the patterns. Unless your second playthrough or you have prior experience with the game, there's just almost no way you can build up a much XP. Hence most of the skills will be out of your reach. Luckily almost none of the skills are mandatory to win the game, it just makes it a bit easier.

The bad part of the game is the obvious terrible camera that hasn't improved since the souls games, the inconsistent prosthetic tools that when used to stun bosses like the firecrackers, feather, the Malcontent and the umbrella when used to attack, sometimes doesn't stun the bosses since they can randomly just completely ignore it, I have encountered boss fights like The Owl where the blade sometimes hit me when he had his katana above his head even tho I was pressuring him into a corner and some bosses have hitboxes bigger than their displayed attacks, like for example, sometimes The Owl uses a firecracker attack that explode and that has a bigger hitbox than the actual explosion, which in New Game + one shots me. The game also has some grab hitboxes like in dark souls where Sekiro gets teleported to the grab even tho you clearly dodged it or you where not touched by it and the enemy or boss can sometimes do a full 180 degree turn to grab you or hit you with unblockable attacks which doesn't make sense since you see them turn instantly or unbelievably fast towards you. But honestly the game is very enjoyable once you master the mechanics and the boss fights and once you get to new game+ the game becomes even more challenging. I didn't start to master the gameplay until 25 hours into the game. Once I became very comfortable and confident with the mechanics, the fun factor of the game sky rocketed.

I have played Sekiro 5 times to completion, back to back. It is one of the very few games that I cared to get 100% of the achievements. Sekiro sets the bar for all future third person melee combat games, and that bar is extremely high.

Sekiro is a great adaptation of the slow and boring combat in Dark Souls.
You are forced to play aggressively and blocking isn't the best way to defend yourself. You better try to dodge and counter-attack or deflect it (there is no parry like in Dark Souls).

Once you get the hang of it, you simply don't want to change back to Dark Souls, it least I couldn't. But to compare DS and Sekiro is a dumb decision since Sekiro is by all means NOT a DS title. There is no Co-op or multiplayer nor Armor/ weapons to choose from. The game is also not "dark", sometimes the World looks actually pretty nice and colorful.

Some Boss designs are like boring normal Samurai (they still punch hard), but sometimes they have a Souls-like design (Hugh and scary/non-human). But still, each Boss has a unique move-set which you have to adapt to.
You don't need any prosthetic tool to defeat a boss, unlike stated in other posts. I actually missed "the most important ones" in my first playthrough (like the firecrackers).

Even though the combat might frustrate you first, keep playing. You will get better over time, especially if you have played DS recently (Sekiro uses different buttons for E.g. healing). If after like 5 hours you still don't like the game, stop playing for a few months. I got the hang of it in my third try.

All in all, I really started to love the game in my third try, especially the combat-system. It is now my favorite game, even though I really disliked it at first. You should definitely buy it, especially if you find it on sale (there is a patch coming at the end of October 2020, maybe they will also start a sale).

Here are some statements from other posts:

-Input lag on Pc: I could not feel any input lag

-Strange Hitboxes: Sometimes yes, but it is common if you doge a sweep attack or try to jump over a thrust attack. So it should only appear if you do something wrong.

-You can die in 1 or 2 hits from a Boss: Yes, this can happen. Especially in new game+.

-You lose 50% of your exp and money with no means of getting it back: You only lose exp between your skill points. You can buy coin purses. They cost 10% more, but they will not disappear.

-60 fps cap: Yes, but you can install mods (nexus-mods with Vortx) to get rid of it. That way you can also install custom shaders

-Poorly explained mechanics and system: Right, some tips are only on the loading screen or hidden in the item description or are completely missing.

But why does a game with such a beautiful setting, good level design and such interesting fighting mechanics have to be so damn hard - I have no idea. It seems like if this time FromSoftware at least in some way allowed the player to lower the difficulty, the game would've only benefited from that. Especially since some enemies get repeated a lot throughout the game making it a really tedious process to once again try to perfectly respond to its moves for another 5 minutes straight, and the constant exposure to the boss music and the god-awful design of the UI do not make it more pleasant.
Nevertheless, it is a game made for a specific audience, one that can't get no satisfaction unless the game is profoundly difficult, so if that's how you would describe yourself and you got quick reflexes - it is probably your game of the year. It has a vast variety of different bosses and mid-bosses, most fights can be approached from at least a few different angles and exploring different areas in search for useful equipment is somewhat amusing, though not very engaging in the long run.

The blocking and dodging are both really inconsistent. Even sneak attacks from above are really inconsistent too. Sometimes changing the FPS and Hz will impact timing things like that in games, so full disclosure I'm using 144hz with 120 FPS (both are locked to 60 by default). But one of the first main bosses is just ridiculous. I've died like 30 times to General Naomori Kawarada. Neither jumping or dodging or blocking consistently work on him.

I even watched a video of a guy showing a way to sneak up on him for an initial blow, but even with that it wasn't enough. And your character dies after 2 hits. After finally beating the guy it didn't feel good at all, it was just like "that was ****ing stupid". Then your character goes on to die more vs other people. I noped the **** out of there.

Dying, resurrecting, and fighting the same enemies again, is part of the game design. The game Sundered is also based around dying and resurrecting, yet I very much enjoyed that game. So I guess it's mostly the tediousness, technicality, unresponsiveness/inconsistency of the fights that's the problem. I enjoyed the combat style of games like Darksiders, but didn't find this type enjoyable. I ended up trying to avoid fighting as much as possible, but you can only go so far with that.

This game is only for people who want to be really patient with every enemy, hit narrow timings, throughout long and repetitive battles. You also have to collect items to strategically use during fights, and go out of your way to explore everywhere without a map, and either die a lot (which you get punished for) or watch a playthrough to learn the game, locations, items, strategies, etc.. There seems to be a lot of boss fights.

It seems necessary to watch a complete youtube playthrough or follow a written guide to even process through the storyline fully/correctly, and without extreme frustration. Watching the playthrough even more so reinforced my conclusion that this game is not fun to play.

The Dragonrot mechanic is stupid. It basically penalizes you for being bad at the game.

The loading screens with tips dismiss themselves, so if you have a fast PC you don't get to read them.

If you do play, I highly recommend using Phoenix Samurai Reshade mod, and FPSunlocker mod (PCgamingwiki).

I'm not sure if calling Sekiro an evolution of the Souls series is appropiate, because while it is obviously based on the same core formula, it also takes that formula into a different direction. Sekiro is more of an action game and less of an RPG. Fortunately, almost all of the positive aspects of the Souls games are present or even enhanced in Sekiro (except for multiplayer).

I think the best thing about Sekiro is how it does away with most of the filler and artificial dificulty of the Souls games. Sekiro is infinitely more agile than previous Souls characters. The addition of the grappling hook makes traversal a lot more entertaining and fast, and there's also stealth, which was made deliberately OP and very forgiving. If you feel stuck in any area of the game, you can just run past everything in a flash. This also makes the game very fun to replay.

At the core of the experience lies the combat, which is similar but at the same time very different from that of Souls games. I think it is safe to say that this is the most engaging and refined combat system From Software has ever made, with a big emphasis on good timing and getting to know both your own and your enemies' movesets. Sekiro is both the From Software game where bosses can kill you the quickest, but also the only game where you can realistically take down a boss without getting hit once, and that is immensely rewarding. The bosses are absolutely excellent, to the point where I'd like to replay them over and over again, simply to get better at them and have fun.

The downside of dropping most of the RPG elements is that one of my favorite aspects of Souls games, which is trying out different character builds, is almost entirely gone. In theory, this would make Sekiro the least replayable From Software game in my eyes, yet I see myself wanting to replay Sekiro in the future more than any other Souls game. The diveristy of builds may be gone, but Sekiro makes up with its addicting and engrossing combat system and its fast paced, 'to the point' nature.

In the art department, this game is as exquisite as you'd come to expect from a modern From Software title. The story is enjoyable and the lore has a good amount of depth, although isn't quite as intrincate and elaborate as the lore of the Dark Souls series or Bloodborne. Visually, this game isn't anything to marvel at, but it does have it's highlights. Finally, the soundtrack is largely forgettable, and a step back from the quality of DS3 and Bloodborne in my opinion.

In concluison, Sekiro is a terrific game that absolutely lives up to From Software's name. It's is obviously hard, but when you grasp the basics of combat, I'd say the difficulty is on par with that of any Souls game. Combat is intensely satisfying, from the clashing sounds of blades to the variety of moves at your disposal. The only significant donwside to the game is that is reuses areas a lot. For example, you'll be running through the exact same Ashina Castle area three times over the course of the game. But if you like soulslike games, you cannot by any chance miss Sekiro.

    Score: 9.5

I envy players who like this game a lot, maybe someday I will change my mind...

As a massive From Software fan, I would advise for the new fans to be cautious going into Sekiro coming from Souls games, it is a very different game in terms of the movement and combat feel. There is a lot of zealotry going on and people will dislike/downvote into oblivion if you say the game can be unsatisfying for some people, especially for hardcore Souls game fans. I understand that people feel great satisfaction from beating this game, but to me it seems that a lot of people praises this game automatically just because it is a From Software game. Were it from any other company, the initial reviews would have been much harsher, and Sekiro fans will not accept that reality. That's why you don't see negative reviews for this game....

That being said, I find the game challenging, unique, and enthralling. Whenever I put it down, it’s only a few hours later I say to myself “Maybe I can get a little further in Sekiro.” and plop down in front of it again. I find the combat enjoyable, but I can see where people may not enjoy certain aspects of it. All in all, if you enjoy faster paced combat that has focused mechanics with minor tweaks here and there to optimize, you’ll enjoy Sekiro.

    The Good:
    - Level design is top notch. A lot of inter connectivity between zones and a lot of hidden goodies. Multiple ways to approach an encounter or the entire zone.
    - The story is far more fleshed out and enjoyable in Sekiro compared to other From games. I at least knew my main objectives and didn’t have vague directions.
    - Enemies are well placed and thought out for different approaches and attacks.
    - Combat can be tricky to learn and has a high risk high reward aspect. A lot of the bosses have gimmicks to help which also teaches you about different aspects of combat.
    - The entire feel of the game. I feel like I am a Shinobi assessing and approaching in stealth. Finding weaknesses to exploit and holes in patrol patterns.

    The Bad:
(They are a bit more in depth, but that’s because they’re a bit more specific.)
-The combat is built around blocking, parrying, and attacking till you either break their stance or lower their health. A lot of DkS players may find it repetitive. I’ve heard it akin to Simon Says, where the enemy does something and you do your inputs to counter, and that is very true. Every boss can potentially be beaten if you played the fight perfectly. However, playing a fight perfectly is no easy feat. It takes a lot of practice, but if your reflexes are good you can absolutely learn every fight and play it perfectly.
    - No variety. You ARE Sekiro and Sekiro IS a shinobi. There is no magic, there is no shield. Your sword is your only reliable offense and defense. Stealth can be difficult to utilize but is required, so if you mess up you’re either dead or running back to reset the zone to try again. Even the boss fights are a mash up of block, parry, or dodge, it’s just learning what to do when.
    - Inconsistent rules between players and NPCs. Every boss has a huge health bar that barely moves when you hit them, but Sekiro can die from a strong breeze. Now this is a bit normal in From games, but never to this extent. There are bosses where health damage is next to impossible so you’re forced to break their stance. Sekiros stance gets broken often, but if you break an opponents, it’s an instant kill.
    - No I-Frames. Now I don’t necessarily agree with this aspect. As if it’s normal to be immune to damage just because you’re rolling or dodging, but it was a staple of From games and a lot of players found it an unwelcome addition.

Again, I don’t particularly agree with some of those criticisms but none the less, there will be people who find them pretty challenging to look around. I personally have a blast when playing Sekiro. I think it’s a welcome addition to the SoulsBorne series and enjoy the changes they made. Other From games are more about the player projecting themselves onto the player character. This game wants you to feel like Sekiro, a stealth Shinobi completing tasks for his master. I feel like I earned the power the game gives you. You start with nothing but your sword and a rope. Eventually you’re spitting fire to ignite your blade to pull off attacks that annihilate groups of enemies in 1 hit. I feel like I’ve really helped this character grow to be a god-like swordsman from starting with a simple slash attack. You really feel a shinobi starting with basic sword training who has difficulty with ordinary enemies and progressing up to killing dragon gods. There’s a lot to do in this game and just going back and replaying a section with a different approach is very entertaining. For some, I can absolutely see why it’s a perfect game.

It is such a promising game, but it has that "dark soul" system that a new gamer is probably unfamiliar with. I feel like a freaking tank commander when fighting. You almost need to study your opponents one by one before engaging them. It makes it rather painful to some of us I guess.

The difficulty is just on the point in my opinion. Not only that,
    hitboxes, animations, voice acting(Japanese), level-design...
One downside might be the music,it's nothing bad but nothing great either.
I loved this game so much I was looking for a thing to criticize, music was the only thing I've found.

    Best From game ever made.
I get why its not for everyone. For one every DS instinct works against you when you start playing, the lack of gear is obviously another major difference.
Personally I find the faster paced combat much more engaging than rolling around.

Sekiro is a very perfect game.
It is a difficult game that boasts a very high level of difficulty.
However, excellent graphics, high-quality action, hitting sense, and cool weapons are the advantages.
And of all the games that exist, the sword fight was the best embodiment.
This game is worth 100 points for Metasco.

Played it only for 10 minutes, then refunded. The setting is good, however the controls are clunky and the camera is very frustrating, moreover when I fall and die, I have to restart from the same damn location. Moreover, the combat and difficulty wasn't for me. I know dark souls fan love this game but this review is from a person who has never played any 'souls-like' game before. Wanted to leave this one without a rating (but that just registers as 0), it just isn't my cup of tea. It is a step down from the uniqueness of the souls series.
Trailers looked great and expectations was great that's why disappointment was great too.

Playing this in 2020. The game is fun, hard to master but easier to understand than demon souls, dark souls and bloodborne were. It has "fromsoftware" all over it except in the english dub (it's so bad). Super fast paced, and even though you can sometimes spam the block button to deflect more often than not you'll need to learn how and when to deflect. Overall a great game.

As a fan of Dark Souls series I expected something similar. But I played it for a while and bounced off of it fast. It's quite different from Dark Souls. I'm not fond of the feudal Japan and samurais theme

the combat in this game is the best in any game i've ever played, and all of sekiro is built off of it. from switching from the slow paced stealth to the fast paced attack/deflect, everything flows perfectly and smoothly. only slight knock for too much grapple and some bad mini bosses, but that's not enough to affect my overall score. 9.6/10

I love a good deal about Sekiro, but there's some issues I feel can be a hamper for those looking to dedicate to it. I'mma get into just that:

Pros: - Fantastic rhythm-based combat. What it lacks in variety, it more than makes up for in its depth, precision, its feel and the satisfaction of scoring death blows. Also, the shinobi prosthetic is a great, unique tool to use in fights
I love a good deal about Sekiro, but there's some issues I feel can be a hamper for those looking to dedicate to it. I'mma get into just that:

    Pros:
    - Fantastic rhythm-based combat. What it lacks in variety, it more than makes up for in its depth, precision, its feel and the satisfaction of scoring death blows. Also, the shinobi prosthetic is a great, unique tool to use in fights against the many enemies.
    - Movement is quite possibly the best it has ever been in a From Software title. Fluid, fast, vertical and fun.
    - Well-made stealth mechanics that make it a must for those who wish to gain an edge over the enemy.
    - Great boss lineup, as per usual with From Software.
    - A satisfying learning curve. For those willing to dedicate, there will come a time where the game clicks, and you become way better than before. For me, this came around mid-game, but boy, did it feel good.
    - Great voice acting in general. Even with those who do not favor reading subtitles akin to an anime sub, you will be fine, knowing this.
    - A well-done, engaging story to boot, on top of the great gameplay.
    - Solid soundtrack that gets the job done.
    - WOOOOOO!

A useful tip, since I can't come up with neutral points:
    - Do NOT treat this like a Souls game. You will get killed with that mentality. Treating it more like Guitar Hero is what got me to get better at the game. It may not be for everybody, but that's just me, and this *is* my review.

    Cons:
    - Not much replay value. Unless you wanna see the multiple endings, you're not getting much past beating the game the first time.
    - There's one end-game boss that just...doesn't fit with Sekiro's gameplay style. I won't spoil who, but I'm sure it's known who at this point.
    - Not a lot of variety in the combat. All you can really customize is your choice of approach, the shinobi prosthetic and what items you carry.

Overall, a great game, but it has issues that make it hard to come back to, at least for me. Still, if you want a challenging action game with solid stealth mechanics, a good story and a learning curve that is very satisfying to learn, this is for you.

Everything in the souls games stemmed from being lost in a strange and unfamiliar place. Sekiro is more concerned with being an action game than a Souls game, yet it tries to do both and fails at the latter. Expand

Alas,After making three, count them THREE, sequels to a game that should have stayed as one game FromSoftware finally broke free from the shackles and made an original game. After playing Dark Souls 2 and 3 I was completely fed up with FromSoftware's artificial difficulty and the mentality that difficulty is always good (spoiler alert: it's not) and I thought I would never play this game. Alas, the feudal Japan setting did drag me in at last, and I am so happy it did.

At the start of the game you wake up in a cave as an actual written character, not the **** "make your own character" **** they did in the Dark Souls games which did nothing but decentralize your character from the story. I don't even know where to start on explaining how happy I am they actually wrote characters for this game. Anyways, back to topic. You're the "Divine Heir"'s shinobi and you have given your life to protect him. That's as much you need to know about the story. Sekiro follows the same formula from Dark Souls when it comes to storytelling, but in my opinion Sekiro does it way better.

I started playing Dark Souls 3 and I got no objective or backstory. All I get is this girl with an awful voice actor screaming aShEn OnE in your face. The rest of the story is in cutscenes and item description. Sekiro however has a storyline and motivations, but most if not all backstory and lore is hidden in item descriptions and optional conversations. Immediately it feels way better than just killing **** for no reason.

The combat in Sekiro is so well thought out and so dynamic and fluid. Instead of rolling and avoiding attacks you face them head on with blocking, which will take a hit to your posture meter, or do a perfect parry, which won't hurt your posture. If your posture meter is filled up you will lose your guard and be stunned for a second opening you for attacks. You can also choose which way you want to kill enemies and bosses. Posture kills or vitality kills. Feels way more intuitive and fluid than "roll, slash, roll, slash"

There is no leveling in Sekiro, but after you kill a boss you get a memory you can use to increase your attack power. If you kill a miniboss you receive a prayer bead. Collect 4 to increase max health. When you kill enemies you receive exp and work yourself up to your next skill point which you can use to unlock new skills like midair blocking and parrying and my favorite, mikiri counter. I won't say much about it, you'll just have to figure it out when you play for yourself.

If you want a game like Dark Souls or "a classic FromSoft game" then stay far away. No dodge rolls. No empty dystopian worlds. No uninteresting enemies or bosses. Although sometimes they may reuse bosses they always feel new and original. In conclusion, Sekiro is a beautiful game which hopefully will open up FromSoftware to make new original games just like this one.

Sekiro Shadows Die Twice is a masterpiece of a game that makes it feel like your a part of the scenery, environment and part of the your Master Kuro's life as you help him on his journey to rid himself of the Dragon's Heritage Blood. There’s no leveling (in Soulsborne sense of the word), no covenants, no multiplayer, no variety in armor and weapons. It could be written off a stylistic choice, if the rest of the game didn’t feel very similar to the previous FromSoftware games. But it does, so Sekrio comes across as rather shallow. Sekiro Shadows Die Twice is a milestone in the genre. It offers complex, stunning and precise sword fights and duels that its predecessors lacked, and from which its successors will have to keep up with. You no longer simply learn by repeatedly and unfairly dying, but you refine your talents as a player. You seek unique methods to overcome each boss, rather than just rolling at the right time before spamming a few hits.

Dozens of hours later, we're still not sure how we feel about it. It's a game of contradictions, open and flexible in its level design, yet resolutely strict in its combat... It is a brilliant game, that is certain. but it is often a difficult one to truly love. Naturally, we can't put it down. [Issue#332, p.104]
