I like space, I like exploration, some of the early reviews were positive, so I bought it.
    I regret that impulsive decision.

Take it from a 5 year veteran of Eve: Online this game is BORING.
Imagine Eve minus the hordes of players trying to kill you, it's more boring than that.

There is supposed to be septillions of stars and planets generated, but their algorithm is poor. This results in maybe 12 different planet types and 30 animal species. I'm being very generous with the planets, for the most part they are just different colors with a different icon showing you what is killing you today.

Now I wasn't expecting Spore like creature variety, but this is insulting. All of them look the same. There might be some slight variation between the crab like species trying to kill me, but I honestly couldn't tell.

The entire game is far too easy, in my trek from the start to the center of the galaxy my shields dropped a total of maybe 10 times, I still don't know what the death screen looks like.

The interface is utterly terrible. You have to hold to click EVERYTHING. There I cannot fathom a reason this has to be for literally EVERYTHING. The galaxy map is the single worst aspect of the UI, a rather galaring flaw for something that wants to do space exploration. The path to the center is utterly useless, as I got close to the center it literally got stuck in a dead end. It ignores your hyperdrive upgrades meaning it's course will take you through about a dozen short hops and then abruptly stop, while you can reach the end in one jump or infact go much futher. There is a total disconnect between "Distance from Center" and "Linear Distance", 500ly for the former is about 1,500ly for the latter. You are down to luck for finding any particular location, even ones you've visited before.

The game play is more or less a resource grind, you land on a planet, shoot at a rock with a mining laser, you leave the planet to go shoot at a different rock. There are NPC, they are of three races, all of which just stand or sit alone in one place. They never do anything, you can talk to them and maybe get a blue print or something, but thats it, there is no personality, not even real interaction.

There was an Atlas quest line, that brought you to 10 admittedly rather spiffy looking space stations. Actually I lied, there are 4 rather spiffy looking space stations that are repeated a couple of times in no particular order. It starts no where and ends in a non ending. This may last you a couple of hours (or however long it takes you to realize the map system is trash and just jump to the end). But it pales in comparison to reaching the Galactic Center.

Thats the final insult, what happens at the center. I'll rant in a spoilerific manner after the next paragraph. Suffice to say if we reached the center and had a planet sized MIDDLE FINGER to explore, this would still be less of a **** YOU than what we got. Because at least the Flipping Bird of God would be an object of interest and discussion.

It was after I had played for a while that I went out and watched the trailers, holy **** I wanted to play that game, too bad it's not what I bought. I'm angry I wasted money buying this, I would have been furious if my expectations were that high. This isn't a case of a fandom hyping in a vacuum, the developers were outright lying to us. Not just in the trailers, but in the words they were speaking. **** this game.

SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER

You start jumping to the center, the game silently says "nope", plays prog rock as it holds the scroll backwards button on the map screen, fade to black and dumps you at the start of a new practically identical galaxy with all you stuff broken. I think it might even have gotten the color on my ship wrong. I can't tell because my game bugged out and put me in slow mo, and I was already fighting the urge to just toss my computer out a window. So no, you don't even get to see what is so shiny at the center of the universe, you just start over again.

    Seriously **** this game.

And then when the game was released, it had something like 20/100 of what he promised, and in a very broken state. I could create a game with a coca-cola vending machine and it would have much more depth in its trading than what the game has.

The games biggest selling point was that you could explore planets that nobody had ever before seen. Well, guess what, there are already hundreds of NPCs in the ground with outposts and trade-depots, so im not the first to step foot on the planet.
After 50 planets or so, you've pretty much seen everything the game has to offer when it comes to exploring.
Im not even gonna talk about the controls because thats a waste of time.

I open the door, the procedural generation generated two bases exactly on top of each other and I cannot enter to sell my goods as the walls of one base block the doors of the other one. I can see inside a window and see two aliens where there should only be one. Really Hello Games? Really? How do I get a refund? BTW, the frame rate is ridiculous. One second it's flowing nicely and then all of a sudden herky jerky and I feel like I am walking in mud. I don't spend over $1k on a PC to play games with such terrible frame rates and bugs.

I also found a lump of aluminum procedurally generated underneath a shelter and i could not get to it. I thought, oh I can just blow holes in the ground with my plasma grenades...nope...you can't blow up shelters, so the ground is untouchable. I keep seeing giant columns of floating resources and buildings generated into the sides of mountains and into seas...and i can't enter through the door.

There are some interesting things that they did here but the execution is terrible. It makes me wonder if any of the people involved in the design of this game played any video games as kids...I hope steam refunds me!

I'm not here to talk about what it was. But to talk about what it is NOW.
    Positive points:
    - Bast game exploration.
    - Very good ship control. Simple but effective (and other vehicles with the same good feeling).
    - Lots of hours of campaign.
    - Good crafting system (very similar to Subnautica).
    - The design is unique in every single thing. The Ships and the weapons are especially cool.
    - Coop is now a thing. Very easy to spend hours making missions or building together.

    Negative points:
    - The shooting system in first/third person is the weakest point (I'm not including ships, that is very good indeed), the enemies are always the same and their skills are quite boring too.
    - Although it was (a lot) improved, the performance in PC could be better.
    - The planets could look the same after several hours of playing (despite you can get surprised anyway).
    - Living beings could be better. Is very usual to see animals that look like a... well... a d**k.
    - Sometimes you have too many missions in your list.
    - The inventory can be very short at first, and annoying to manage.

I put a 10 only because I think this game's rating needs to be balanced. In my opinion, it deserves from 7 to 9. Depending on your taste in games.
If you didn't like it at first, give Hello Games a second chance. They truly deserve it, seriously.

There's literally nothing to do after you max out your slots on your exosuit and get the largest ship. At present it's a screenshot generator, and the number of players is seemingly shrinking rapidly. It needs updates quickly but sadly those updates can't just be addons, and extra game mechanics like 'owning a freighter' or 'base building'. The core mechanics of this game need to be radically remodeled. They need to swallow their pride and accept that their vision for what this game should be (essentially a text-based journey to the centre of the universe with a fairly boring backstory involving the handful of races) is far wide of the mark of what people were expecting or hoping for. There's an entire universe here, it should have been a canvas for people to create their own stories, playing as pirates, explorers or traders. You know the three main play styles that were much touted before the game launched. Combat is overly simplistic, with no skill. I mean, honestly, it's incredibly poorly conceived. You actually have to open your inventory for example to restore your shields... Trading is equally shallow and badly executed. Elite this is not. You'll struggle to even find a previously visited star system. Space stations, incredibly repetitive as they are, sell a handful of items and in small quantities. NPCs are just static loners waiting for you, the only person who seemingly will ever visit them, to turn up and give you a blueprint or something. Even exploration ends up being largely disappointing and falling short. The creatures and plants are far more repetitive than advertised. Some of the more interesting ones in the trailers aren't even in game, and you'll probably never see some of the AI bahaviours from the trailers, like herds fleeing together or migrating in single-file columns. You'll see the same plants over and over again, same with the crystals, and every cave is identical.

This game wants you to rush to the centre, not explore. It's a solid grind with occasional pretty views to distract you. It wants you to read its puerile sci-fi text rather than actually experience something meaningful in-game. The ship is a struggle to control, and the game runs poorly even after several updates.

Updates and more importantly MODS can and are improving the game, but as I said, they need to go back to the drawing board in key areas and I'm not sure they'll do that.

    4/10.

Very sad after following the game closely for 3 years.

The main issue I have with NMS is that it's literally just fetch quests at the moment.
    Get X, produce Y, fix Z.
I honestly feel that having missions or quests would make it more playable.
I understand that it's supposed be about exploration, but it's not like it's OUR universe.

I can't recommend the game in its current state.
If Hello Games address the myriad of issues, it's potentially a 7 or 8 rated game.

The price doesn't bother me... it's whether the game is good or not.
I'm happy to sink £200 into a game if it delivers on most of my expectations.

    I feel NMS needs:
    * Missions/quests
    * Greater inventory space
    * Potential to meet AND see other people
    * Different classes of spaceships - fighter, merchant, rogue, etc.
    * Able to customise the person you control (sex, age, race/species, etc.)
    * More save points, heck, why not auto save points as well as the manual ones?

    Нет,серьезно,это уже не смешно.
    -NPC.

2018 and No Man's Sky is finally what it was set out to be. Years of free updates have brought what was once probably the most disappointing and disastrous launches in the game industry to a fully realized universe sandbox experience. Sure you can laugh at them BUT in the end the vision and potential for such a project is something that should not die.

You are constantly getting stuff to do its almost overwhelming. I went to a site on my home planet (You can now build anywhere) to find buried technology only to find a crashed freighter (the size of my home town mind you) on my way. I stopped and got a salvage mission and while digging up the ships hull I feel into a cave containing "Sentient plants."

The plants gave me a giant pearl and after taking it I got into a 2 hour long chase when the sentinels (aka the NNMS police) instantly raised my wanted level for taking the pearl (it was very valuable). This was not a simple chase seen in GTA, this was a planet by planet chase which resulted in my hiding out in an unknown moon to wait out the authorities. This entire experience would not be possible in any other game.

I hated NMS at launch and I was furious with the excuses from Hello Games BUT I have to say I am impressed. They could have let it die HELL companies like EA and Actvision would have. I am so happy they didn't because NMS delivers an experience that I feel is absent in current games. The feeling of freedom and discovery.

I think No Man's Sky is a great game. The graphics are impressive, the gameplay relatively exciting. What I have to criticize in the gameplay, however, is that the missions are mostly structured as follows:

The game is great at the wow factor, when comes to exploring worlds. The first time you fly to space is amazing, doubly-so in VR. The game still has issues, but you can't knock Hello Games for their years of support for this game. The game is based around grinding for materials. The good thing is that you do get relief as you unlock more automated ways to get some of them. And in time it is easier to collect them generally - usually buying them. So if grinding concerns you, no worries - it concerned me too but I'm ok with the amount I'm doing.

You can't expect any game to be all things to all people. If you are actually interested in an exploration game, come play. If you need a leaderboard in your game, go play elsewhere.

I think the game should have been released 2 years after it was originally released. When it came out, it was very basic and lacked a lot of features. If it had came out around today, it would have been much more popular. Also, it takes fricking for ever to build a base in survival. So much grinding, which I enjoy, but it can be a pain in the butt sometimes. Overall it’s a pretty good game. Expand

It's 2020 and glad I ignored the early startup hate reviews. With all the latest updates, patches....this is one of the most immersive space games I've experienced. Endless hours, base building, crafting, ingame economy, multiplayer/coop. You do need at least 6G of ram with decent video card to get the full rendering experience effect without stuttering.

Most of the below reviews are from when it first came out. To be fair they would be correct at the time.
There has been some major updates since its release and most of the complaints below and what people want to be able to do in the game you can now do. This game is freaking awesome. There is no more money to spend once its been bought and the updates just keep coming.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. An Absolute Joy to Play

INTRO: I purchased No Man's Sky a little over a week ago, so I missed all the launch drama(though I am aware NMS had a rough launch). I started playing on v3.91 Leviathan. I've been gaming for over 20 years, and enjoy games from all genres.

SUMMARY(9/10): No Man's Sky(NMS) is the most fun I've had playing a video game in several years. I do see a few areas where it could be refined and improved, but for the most part, it's just a joy to play. And with the developer's apparent commitment to "finishing" the development, so to speak, I'm confident in saying that NMS will be on the future's lists of definitive games of this era.

CORE GAMEPLAY(10/10): At it's core, NMS is about exploration and adventure, and the scope of available content to explore is absolutely staggering. Means of transport include walking, limited flight(via Jetpack), using any of several terrestrial vehicles(including one walking armor suit, and one aquatic vehicle), Starship in-atmosphere flight, Starship interplanetary flight, and finally interstellar flight via either Starship or Freighters(there's also a fast travel system involving portals). Transitions between these different modes is masterfully executed, and nearly seamless(though those on slower PCs may notice some a tiny bit of latency in various transitions).

VISUALS(10/10): I put "visuals" here instead of "graphics" to make my intent clear: I'm including all visual effects depicted in the game under this section. I don't consider high resolution textures to be the end-all of visual presentation in video games. While, to the reader, this may seem like me "cheating" to give NMS a higher review score, I'd urge said reader to take a look at #virtualphotography of #NMS hashtags, on Twitter and elsewhere. While it's certainly true that not every location and planet in NMS is picturesque, the medium results in many truly beautiful vistas in spite of it's limitations. After all, they are effectively rendering entire star systems seamlessly, in a Universe of over 250 Galaxies. There are some obvious problems with level of detail that may very well be unsolvable with the current level of consumer hardware. I feel that this is completely forgivable. Keep in mind, NMS manages to achieve this feat with a meagre 12 GB install base.

SOUND/MUSIC(8/10): I've removed two marks here, one each for sound and music. On the subject of sound, I don't feel like there's anything missing, but I can't give a perfect score on a video game review unless there's something truly outstanding. On the subject of music, NMS similarly doesn't do anything that truly amazes me. The game has an embedded music player, but being that I'm not a music lover, I haven't explored it's capabilities in full.

COMBAT(9/10): Combat in NMS is simplified. As the game's focus is exploration and adventure, I can't fault them for this at all, but as stated before, since they're not doing anything particularly amazing in this category, I've removed a mark here. NMS includes aerial/space combat(these manifest as being nearly indistinguishable from each other), vehicular combat, and first person shooter combat mechanics. The bottom line is that you can still be killed by hostile entities, both in space and on a planetary surface, but that winning most battles will not be a challenge for more experienced players. This does include some variety of weapons, but none of them are particularly exceptional at changing the way the player approaches combat.

ADDITIONAL CONTENT(9/10): There's a massive chunk of additional content that is peripheral to the core gameplay. There's NPC settlement development/management, Freighter fleet management, economic management(running trade supplies), player base building, farming, animal husbandry, single- and multi-player mission types, mining, crafting, cataloguing the game world(you can name just about everything you discover, including stars, planets, moons, plants, animals, and minerals), and a whole separate seasonal game mode with special rules called "Expeditions". There's a ton of room for expanded content in this regard, and it seems the developer is still intent to do so. The player can also edit terrain at will during live gameplay, which includes leveling terrain, creating terrain, tunnelling/destroying terrain, restoring terrain, and in some cases even using the "Terrain Manipulator" to mine resource deposits.

    BEST GAME STUDIO....EVER!

In today's modern world of Greedy Game Goons, Hello Games has chosen to go the route of making a fun game with constant updates multiple times a year, instead of cash grabbing like every other studio does.

Instead of focusing on making money first, they focus their efforts on the fun of the game knowing that if they do their job and make a fun game, that the positive press will generate sales and therefore continued income.

    GRAPHICS
For a game released in 2016, the graphics hold up in the modern era whether it be the avatars outfit, a lush planet or your favorite spaceship. The art style of the game also matures with each update moving a bit away from the tron aesthetic seen early on in game to a more "realistic" sci-fi aesthetic.

    CHARACTER CUSTOMIZATION
No Man's Sky allows for some reasonable character customization with a handful (not a ton) of outfits to collect and "heads" to choose from. The game does not have the depth of character customization found in some RPG's, but it works for the game. I would personally like to see character heads/faces created with facial customization and a swath of outfits to appeal to the role player. I also wish we could have custom avatar names for alts. I also wish we could have a character load screen with an alt character selector. Something you might see in WOW, ESO, New World, or any MMORPG. While No Man's Sky is not an MMO in the truest sense, it would be nice to have some of those RPG elements to give a greater appeal and connection to the avatar.

    GAMEPLAY
The game offers a myriad of playing styles from base building, exploring, ship combat, on foot combat, collecting items or achievements. Hardcore FPS players may not get their itches scratched, but chill players, base building/home making players and players who like to explore till their hearts content will be greatly satisfied.

    MONETIZATION
I kind of already covered this. But Hello Games only requires a box copy purchase of the game. At retail its a heck of a deal, on sale its a steal. You can get hundreds to thousands of hours of enjoyment and fun for the price of lunch for two or a dinner for 4. Hello Games has not charged a single penny for any update since 2016. I think the game has 27 updates now. That is a lot of content to create and share with the community for no additional cost.

In a world where an outfit in game can cost you $15.00, a mount can run $30.00, a house can easily hit $140.00 its refreshing to have a game studio like Hello games not always having their hand in the player pocket. They truly respect their customer base, can't say that about too many studios.

    MULTIPLAYER
Multiplayer is the weakest link in No Man's Sky. I play with my Lady most of the time and while we are able to group, work on each others homes (if you allow in your settings), and run quest together, sometimes the quest bug out and one of us can not complete it. We will have to drop group and do the quest again. This can get a bit annoying. But when you consider that Hello Games does not charge for a monthly service to update/maintain the server farm size necessary for MMORPG's to run and that the game overall is a sandbox, these shortcomings are easier to understand.

    CONCLUSION
If you crave flying a spaceship around on a planet, getting out of the ship and exploring, making a base, hanging out with friends/loves ones in game, engaging in an interesting story and a simple combat engagement (well, you can set your game settings much harder to make combat challenging if you like) then No Man's Sky is a great game. If you desire hard core pvp, this is probably not the best place to spend your money although there are PVP communities (you can turn PVP on in your settings), i have never engaged in it to know how good/bad it is.

    I give No Man's Sky 10/10

I'd like better combat and melee and ship interiors, but those caveats aside i really enjoy this game. I hope you can as well :)

I don't care if it works by tomorrow! On day one it wasn't a server problem like some multiplayer games (i.e The Division) the game was literally a broken turd for well over half of the people that purchased it and those who did managed to get in said it run like garbage and looked about as good as Bad Rats. Even turning slowly, stuttering is abundant and frequently dropping below 20, the game is nauseating. On top of that, the field of view adjustments are broken and it feels claustrophobic. The only way to fix it is going into the settings file and manually changing the FOV to be above 100, but that causes distracting graphical glitches.

The game looks like garbage and the resolution setting only upscales the game from 720p, causing the image to appear blurry and makes jagged edges more noticeable. That aside, half the graphical settings either don't work at all (4xSSAA) or have no graphical difference between highest and lowest (Anisotropic Filtering) but the highest setting still manages to make framerates worse.

I would not touch this game with a 20-mile pole until the developers learn how to make the game run properly. Until then, it is not worth even considering buying unless it is HEAVILY discounted (around $10 at most).

Mine resources ? To bad that every planet on the universe had planetary-wide "sentinel drones" on them, that will kill everybody who dare to steal a handful of dirt...Surviving simply means to refill one of your numerous constantly dropping meters. Manually of course, even if your have enought resources in your inventory. This game uses every opportunity to artifically extend the gameplay (Yeah, we like our Inventory small and fiddly).

The best part is probably the exloration, but of course it's shallow like the rest of the game - push your scanner run to the next question marker and "discover" one of 5 or 6 generic alien things that are pretty mutch the same on every planet. This game has too many flaws big and small to name them all, I won't even start to talk about all the technical problems this game has. The 60 € price tag is just the cherry on top of the cake. I think they knew very well why they gave no review copies to the press or showed actual gameplay vids before release.

Finally, when it was released, the critic websites didn't get money for commercials and advertising so they gave it a score of 6 or 7 out of 10. When will people understand that big critic and commercial websites need to make money to survive. They don't work for free. Bad game sold with lies. Hope they never get any success after such a scam and that someone sues them for all they got from it. If anyone involved in this makes anything ever Ill skip it as it is probably just another scam. Hope they get long painful fatal illnesses and none of them get children as they would become scam artists.

This pre-alpha tech demo looks very promising. Sure, the engine is still pretty raw at this point. It has trouble with basic things, like collision detection, and all the textures are just very ugly placeholders. Physics aren't implemented yet, either - if you shoot off the bottom of a rock, the top will just hang in the air.

Unfortunately, we don't get to see anything of the main game

Unfortunately, we don't get to see anything of the main game content, just the usual side activities - resource gathering, crafting, exploration etc. These are a bit tedious right now, but there's plenty of time to polish them until release. Also, linking of resources obtained to objects you interact with is completely random at this point - for example, you can mine craptons of apparently naturally occurring plutonium, which gave me a good laugh.

Overall, I'm pretty impressed with the demo and will definitely buy the game when it comes out (I'm guessing about one year from now).

Space Engineers steadily is becoming more and more with each update, and has been in development for some time.

Elite Dangerous is hugely immersive, finely tuned, polished, and is a great game.

In order to get a score by my scoring system, you need to have atleast 20 hours of gameplay in order to be considered a game, that gets you a 1. This game gets a 0.

I would not say it's a complete disapointment but I was expecting a different take on Elite Dangerous or Starcitizen, i was expecting a game where you have freedom and variety with a rich environement. With quests and stuff...

I ended with a mining game that is relaxing and fun but super repetitive with lack of true content. Even the graphics are so last gen! But the colors are amazing.

Very lackluster and terribly dissapointing. It's the first game I refund on Steam, and because of that it's the first game ever I write a review for in Metacritic.

My experiences with this game are as follow:
    - Get on my first planet, looks way worse that what you could see in the trailers, but as it's a random thing maybe I wasn't lucky.
    - Have to go to my wrecked spaceship, it tells me (after I come to understand the HORRIBLE UI) I need some materials to repair the motor and other thing.
    - Fine, let's search materials (iron and I don't know what more). Oh, cool, I have a jetpack. Oh **** I fell from 2 meters and got damage. Ok, I won't use the jetpack, because on top of that it's slow as balls.
    - Walking speed is atrocious, sprint is limited but you have a good amount so I wonder why it's limited in the first place. Seriously, you can sprint longer than you can use the jetpack.
    - Start mining rocks, laser overheats, ok. **** decision by the way.
    - I mine ONE (1) rock and robot police starts running behind me and shooting (WTF). Total amount played: 5 minutes. I run and hide from them.
    - I find some animal, obviously made from stitching together some random parts. It's so obvious it hurts.
    - Start telling me my suit against radiation or toxicity or something is beginning to wore out. I'm no more than 10 minutes into this.
    - Have I said UI is horrible?
    - Got an alien word.
    - More sentinels, I'm literally doing nothing.

To sum up, many MANY things to take into account. Menus are very VERY poorly designed from a usability point of view. Inventory is a mess. The procedural nature of this game makes that your first minutes playing this can be a hellish nightmare. The "no fun robot police" is the worst decision ever made in a game that tries to reward you for exploration.

I have played no more than an hour, and it was a very boring hour. Also, it's very badly optimized. I have a good setup and I had to lower resolution and disable antialiasing so I could move the camera without slowdowns.

I give it 4 points because there's a good idea buried somwhere in, but as if it's now this is not an enjoyable experience. If you bought this, don't try to justify your purchase and force you to like this thing.

The fooled you, the same as they fooled me with false advertising and hype marketing. Lucky I could refund the game, now I'm going to use that money (60 bucks, way too expensive for what it is) for other games I'll (I hope) enjoy more.

    - Hermosos colores y algunas buenas posibilidades
    - Poner nombres a las nuevas especies animales y vegetales
    - Viajar

Almost no way whatsoever to track your exploration, wanna do planet 100%s? Well good luck cause you'll have no clue at all if you've been to that part of the planet yet. Wanna explore all the systems or even head to the center? Well good luck cause you'll have to literally use a pen and paper to keep track of your progress and compare 'distances to the center' to decide where to go next. Best part yet, wanna use a gamepad? (Obviously the Xbox version), Well too bad because the game doesn't bind all the functions to the gamepad and won't let you do it either. Achievements are extremely intrusive and literally make you have to stop playing for 10 seconds or so just to see 'congrats you've taken 100 steps!'. The stores aren't explained at all, the story is vague which is fine and I obviously can't complain about it yet since I haven't played long enough to give it a chance, but there is an issue where there isn't a way to track story progress, which is VERY irritating.

Though the game is pretty fun, with some optimization for PCs and MANY QoL updates, the game would be deserving of a 7 or 8. There is plenty to explore and you have complete freedom to succeed or fail by your own hand, exploration areas are massive and the music is very good if a bit repetitive. They don't hold your hand which I believe will be a positive in the future as people are going to constantly be discovering things they didn't know. I personally don't recommend purchasing until at the very least they make it run better and add some QoL updates, though I will definitely be playing it for now. Also I'm not experiencing the absolute chaos that others seem to be with crashing and horrible tears ect. I run a pretty decent PC as well, though nothing insane.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Unlike many people, the game actually runs decent enough on my PC and i didn't encounter any serious technological problems. Maybe i'm just lucky, since now i can review the game itself.

First, all the people who rave about the supposed amazing technological aspect of creating a huge universe filled with planets. 16 years ago, a single italian programmer released a game that did just that, a procedurally generated universe with billions of planets. Unlike this shallow garbage however, that game had a huge variety of planets, there were barren worlds, water worlds, gas giants, and so on. So to say that NMS did something that wasn't there before is simply not true.

At the end of the day, all NMS does is put together a planet from the same Seed over and over again and swap the colors. If you have been to one planet, you have seen them all. Same type of plants, little variety in alien life and a little different enviroments. It all feels the same. Also, since every single star system i went through has a space station in it and every single planet has those sentinel things on it, you never get that immersion of being an explorer because somebody (NPC-wise) has been there before.

I do understand that they had to add a number of game mechanics to go with the (failed and utterly shallow) exploration aspect but the resource gathering and crafting is just a huge grind. There is no fun in running around and trying to find that single resource you are missing or docking with a space station just to discover that they don't have that one thing you need.

The supposed story, if you even could call it that, is equally shallow, boring and doesnt make much sense. Space combat feels random and sluggish, the ship doesnt move nicely and you can tell after 10 seconds that its just a bad port from the PS4, with all the controls more or less geared towards as controller.

So, in conclusion, NMS fails in all aspects. Its technology is not that great and has been done before. Controls are bad, story nonexistent. And the exploration part is just too shallow to ever give you the urge to continue because there isn't anything new or wonderous to see. And all that for a whooping 59,99€? Save your money.

I am sorry, but this is totally unacceptable, and a scam. This game is nowhere near worth 60$. This game could be sold for 10$ and still make a huge profit. The investment required to make this game is really small, too few assets and low quality. Many features that were advertised before release, are still missing.

They should add the missing features with free DLCs together with an apology note for not having them on release. If they try to sell them as paid DLC, claiming that the game is expensive and they need the money for development, tell them you have already paid the price of an AAA game and you won't get scamed again like this. This is disgusting...

I think the limited inventory space in this game is intentional, and makes you use your braines to think out whats important and what not. Perhaps u indeed have to trade more often at the start to empty your inventory.

The problem with this game, in my eyes, it becomes more of the same. There are only so much anomaly's availble in the game. Also upgrades don't come fast enough. After 15 hours I am still in my second ship and second multi tool( without using guides...). Their should be a bit more variation in the game to keep things interesting. I also dont feel a real connections with the backstory when I am running around on a planet.

Exploring is the name of the game, and space travel is all I care for. People rib the game for being "pointless," but I'd argue it was a true space sim when it first came out. The universe is an empty place, why would it be filled with countless species?

This game is SO much fun and I will admit I love playing with my buds now, but I always understood and appreciated the game's original vision.

    Why i give it a 8 ?

At launch i was very disappointed. And if i had vote at this time i think i had gave a 4 max. Repetitive, too easy, lack of ambiance; NMS had all necessary to win and seems to be finished too fast without polish .. and i don't wanna talk about promise that never came. But with the last release the game has really changed in a very good way and merit a retry. I

I play it in survive mode and its a very nice game now i have the feeling of being in a strange planet.

I hope that the dev will continue this way and develop much more content in it.
This game merit to be improved because the bases are there and its just a question of content now, even if they added a lot more with this last release, the game need much more and i really hope that the dev will work on it.

This was a very hyped up with how impressive it was, we all thought that Sean Murray was creating something mind blowing with all of the features talked about.

It all turned out to be the equivalent of a half finished game with many of what was promised missing, leading to a very repetitive game with very little uniqueness in it's game play. Even the aspects in the demo is not present

I can't tell if Sean Murray is a genius or a criminal but asking for a $60 price tag for a game so hyped, only for it to be a lie and turn out into the state of a early access game. Sean Murray sure has profited off it in a major way it seems.

Such a bad launch where my PC could not run it, then when it does it does not deliver what the developer promised. A lot of hype and for a game that doesn't deliver it's value. Sad because unless Hello Games pulls a rabbit out of their hat this game could die before it reaches its full potential. Maior porcaria do século.

A concept manipulated in a mediocre way, giving a result a videogame without heart, without entity, and with a disastrous performance.
The latest updates give the video game a bit of variety and challenge, but it's still a poor product.

No Man's Sky was hype. There's no hiding the fact that this game was hyped up to be a massively multiplayer, open world, incredibly detailed and insanely interactive. It didn't deliver in any of these aspects.

Over the course of the game's creation, developers promised and showed us many things that never actually saw the light of day when the game was finally released in mid 2016.

Over the course of the game's creation, developers promised and showed us many things that never actually saw the light of day when the game was finally released in mid 2016.

The ships, although cool in looks, are severely lacklustre in this game. Bigger ships do not necessarily mean more control, better weapons, etc, instead they allow for the player to carry larger amounts of materials than before. There is no feeling of progression from gaining a new ship after hours of endless grinding, rather, a feeling similar to something like "Oh hey look a new ship, that one looks cooler than my last one".

While I'm on the topic, the endless grinding? The game was hyped up to be some sought of "choose your own adventure", and from trailers and developer details, this is what we were lead to believe. Instead, you spend hours upon hours finding very specific resources, some of which aren't available in certain planetary systems simply to fly your ship, not very satisfying gameplay, especially since, from early trailers, players were lead to believe that again, you could choose how you played. We were supposed to be able to grind resources if we wanted, discover new planets if we wanted, discover life forms, learn languages and although all of this is possible, the gameplay is extremely lacking and in order to do this in the first place, large amounts of grinding time is required.

Multiplayer was another functionality that was promised by developers, and probably the biggest let down of the whole game. The grind, in my opinion, would be totally worth it if I could fly my ship to a certain solar system to find my mates, fly around with them and destroy other's ships. Unfortunately, the only interaction I will ever have with someone else is when I see details of the planets they have discovered in game.

Although this game does disappoint, credit must be given for the vast expanse of planets and that have been created and the graphic quality of the game. Looking through the universe's map certainly leaves a feeling of wonder and intrigue as to what might be out there, and the graphical quality and aesthetically pleasing aspects of the game add to this, however, from feelings of being let down from previous gameplay, those hopes are soon quashed.

Hopefully, the developers can continue to create content, similar to recent updates (bases can now be created and land ships are now a thing) that will fix some of the glaringly obvious problems that the game has. Otherwise, I doubt I'll be playing anytime soon.

This game is very barebones. Performs poorly on good systems and worst of all the marketing and development team was deceptive. They've recently added the features they originall advertised 2 years ago but such blatant lies is unacceptable.

They start big updated, big improves that I did not follow right away, but I've been reading, watching streams and tracking feedback.

Now almost 2 years after much change, and a massive update promises to change the game, once and for all. Obviously they catch my attention, I had much to see but came back with the low expectations.

I do not intend to stretch too far, simple the game changed from a huge thumb down, to a small thumb up, through all the effort and dedication.

It's not the game you'd been waiting for for the initial trailers yet, but it's immensely closer to that. I'll keep the game under my radar and follow whatever comes up. Good job Hello Games!

No Man's Sky breaks the record in falling short of the hype – which is an incredible achievement in the category of super ambitious space games. The huge universe is a repetitive, lifeless and meaningless place, no amount of random generated creatures can change that. The most unforgivable fail is making the spaceship such a pain to fly, which makes exploring the vast universe simply a chore. However, at its best the game is epic and many of the issues should be easy to fix, so this might not be the end of the journey after all. [Sept 2016]

While some poorly designed systems and mechanics chip away at your patience, the feeling of flying seamlessly from space down to a peninsula you spotted from orbit never fails to enthrall. [Nov 2016, p.106]
