First off, I want to state that I am not having any of the problems that were reported minutes after the games release yesterday (8/12/2016). I am seeing a few stutters in the frame rate, but that's really about it.

I love exploration games. Flight Simulator, Train Simulator, Minecraft, Creativerse, 7 Days to Die, Fallout 4 the GTA franchise even Starbound. I can spend hours just wandering around looking at what the game or developer generated for me to explore.

No Man's Sky is pretty much the ultimate version of that type of game. With 18 Quintillion world in just one (of possibly many) galaxies, there is just no limit to my exploration bug.

World generation is crazy, making Minecraft look tame, The creatures and plants that live on these worlds are straight out of 1960's SciFi book covers and comic books.

There is even an underlying story to the four major races in the game (if there are four, I have only found one so far).

If I had any complaints, it would be inventory management or the early lack of inventory space is a pain. However I could say the same for pretty much every game I mentioned above. You can fairly quickly start increasing those spaces by finding objects on the planets that will increase your suits inventory.

A nit pick would be that planets usually don't bunch up together like they have here. There should be planets all around their star. I should have to fly past the star to get to planets that might be on the other side. Not the case here. They are all pretty much bunched up together. Physics wouldn't allow this, but hey. It's a game not a true simulator.

That's really it. The fact that there is probably one one "hand drawn" object in the game, the main alien races mentioned earlier. Everything else is put together by the game, Ships, Multi-tool guns, plants, animals, planets, everything. So far, they all look fantastic.

If you are into Minecraft, Creativerse, 7 Days to Die, you will be dropping those games in favor of No Man's Sky for quite some time. I absolutely recommend this one!

Beware of old reviews, it not even the same game. It has been well supported; there have been many fixes, improvements and free dlc was added to this game. If you want to explore and build in an open universe this is the game for you. If you want Metroid in space, move on. But in the end this has turned out to be the game that was advertised, just took a year to get there.

New updates to No Man's Sky is just a huge overhaul to the game play. However you may still suffer FPS drops as graphic needs more performance improvement but the game is no longer in that obscure stage which you are a confused space traveler. By adding more content to the game and more variation in planets, settlement system and a new Multiplayer system you can enjoy your time by yourself or with your friends in game.. however The game still lacking more constructed contents, better lore and main story. More better Combat system and probably more hostiles to get the game to more fascinating stage. As I mentioned FPS drop and performance is still plays a big issue into No Man's Sky and this might be very annoying for many users with older systems. But overall all this fixes and this bumpy road that Hello Games developers passed by worth more score than it got at 2016 and I can see this game have better future if the improvements still going on and the team do not give up and making more content to the game.

The game is getting better with each update. How much has come out this year. Most of all I like the study of systems and construction. In principle, if you discard some of the mechanics of the game, then this is the only thing you can do here, someone does not like sandboxes, someone does not understand what to do in this game at all. But there is also a plot and various secondary missions that will not let you get bored and help you figure out the game faster.

Build your base or even an entire settlement. No, I'm not talking about settlements that you can manage (yeah, and this appeared this year). I mean, you have the opportunity to build a large base, as if it were a small settlement. Build in the air (I have seen beautiful examples), underground, under water - yes, even all at once. You can equip your space cargo ship, fill it with interesting starships. Honestly, you can describe this game for a very long time. I'm glad I got to know her, it's a pity it was so late and I didn't find the early times (and no matter how dark they were).

It's improved a lot from what I was told were the early days of the game. The devs initially were overly ambitious, but they showed they did care, and that really says something for the integrity of the devs that they continue to add new content despite its initial crash and burn. Nowadays, it's a hella fun and interesting romp through space, exploring different planets, collecting resources, chilling out. It's like a 3D Starbound, really. Plenty of different ways to play the game, whether it's trade running, farming, hunting, questing, exploring, whatever really.

If I had to suggest features for a potential sequel: take some pages from Spore. Add the ability for players to make custom plants and animals and minerals and share them online for other people to discover. That would prevent biome-specific plants from starting to look repetitive, and further encourage exploring to see new, weird sights. Extra customization options for players along the lines of Skyrim would also let players really feel like their character is THEIR character. Adjustable proportion sliders and what-not would be very nice. No Man's Sky is a game that begs for a lot of assets, I think, even more than are already in the game, and I feel like having player-designed props would take the game that one step further.

    Also let people scrap multi-tools.

9/10, I'd probably normally only give 8 or so, but I have so much respect for the devs working so hard to correct their mistakes in an industry that would normally just push the game to the side and pretend it never existed.

Still, Hello Games has proved that it learned from its wrongings back in 2016. The game now has a very good crafting system, more stuff to explore, different worlds, machines and a solid multiplayer with a very interesting lore.

I honestly see more potential in the game, in regards to combat and exploration. When "villages" were announced, I thought we could see eventually some abandoned cities, or that developing your own village would be "easy" and quite productive. Instead it's just a timing system, over and over, and exploration hasn't changed much.

In regards to combat, the sentinels doesn't put much of a threat on you, so many of the combats upgrading you do in your multitool are essentially useless. Space combat could evolve to become something I could describe as Star-Wars-ish, instead, any battle you face has 6-12 ships maximum that can be easily beaten in normal difficulty.

It's a very fun game and, if it's your type of game - exploration, crafting and all - then you'll spend some hours here. If not, just go play other thing.

I came on board shortly after the Atlas Rises expansion so missed most of the furore with it's initial release. By that stage, bases and vehicles had been introduced and, although the game was not bad, it still felt pretty empty. However, Hello Games have been pouring their heart and soul in to their creation and the game has benefitted greatly, along with it's player base. The game of then is a shadow of the game it is now.

With the release of their content update 'Expeditions' there is a reminder of just how far the game has come. Starting a new expedition, with basically nothing, you play back through all of the content again, fulfilling missions and reaching checkpoints. Even then, not everything that has been added to the game is included in the 'Expedition'.

Their latest update, as of writing this, is Prisms. It has added a graphical upgrade to the game to make better use of ray-tracing technology and the game just 'pops' now. I just wish I had a better rig to make full use of it all, but even with my old GTX it still looks very nice.

Hello Games has promised there is still much more to come this year. We've had three 'DLC' updates already and we're only 6 months in! So I can't wait to see what they have in store for us.

ALL of this content, all 17 DLCs, have been added for free. There is no paid DLC model, as there is with most other games these days, everything they have added has been gratis. And these updates are not simply adding a couple of things here and there, these are updates that most other publishers would proudly package as a separate DLC and make you pay for!

The upshot is that I am so glad that I decided not to listen to the negative reviews and made the purchase when I did. I have had a front-row seat to the evolvement of a game that has come a long way and is destined to be so much more.

Hats off to you Hello Games, you have a fan for life here!

In 2016 this game was a huge pile of poop. Today it's totally different, a lot of stuff was improved and they are gonna add new things. If you hated this game at launch, trust me, you're now gonna like it!

This game when first released I would of gave it a 1. Yea it was just a boring game with a ton of problems. BUT since then Hello Games (The developer) has gone above and beyond to make this game fun. They have added so much content SO MUCH content that was promised and it's there now. I have traveled the universe with friends and it works well, able to connect directly to them join in help with a pirate fight, and help build their bases yes bases on planets that you can set as your own. traveled to places where people have become communities and built whole cities. It's fantastic and mysterious. The game has a lot more to offer with ships, weapons, alien types, NPC's, sentinel enemies, and even worlds. The game is now an 8 on my scale and it deserves it. I have fun hopping on every once in a while and exploring a new planet its just the type of game you can do that with. Its still not perfect but there really is not a game like it out there and exploring is one of the top things I enjoy.

A very underrated game. Many may claim it gets boring by a few hours but it really isn't. Personally, I have a very low attention span and I do not like grinding or exploring games that much. Maybe it became a bit too easy to get rich by the way.

One thing really surprised me, I remembered what the game looked like, when I started it for the first time in 5 years, I spawned on a cold planet at night with a beautiful sky. The game really became beautiful.

Soon, Starfield will release, seems to have a lot of similarities with No Man's Sky, I could have wait Starfield but honestly I'm glad I gave a new chance to No Man's Sky.

A flawed game with great potential. The great sense of exploration is hampered by a lack of content - both in objects, animals, plants, and other humanoids. That said, the sheer ambition of the game is impressive, and although it falls short in nany ways, it is hard to find another space exploration settlement building game that is on this level.

It plays well and is fun, quickly becoming addictive. the environment can be bland at times, but the creatures and plants are very original. Some attack you and they all do seem to pose as a resource. The crafting system is quite generic , where you select from a menu - minecraft had the most intuitive and interesting crafting system.

The style of the game, from space to the plants are interesting - the music and sound also fits it , given it is chilled and you can expect to pump hours into the game, just like minecraft.

After playing, as I enjoyed Minecraft, I have decided I will buy it when I can – which I did not expect to do previously.

New planets with hazards and my favorite improvement... wait for it...... VARIABLE GRAVITY!!!.

    Pros:
-runs smoothly on an older system gtx 860mobile at medium graphics settings 1080p. (update: Oct. 2020... NMS is no longer friendly to my gtx 860, i'd recommend a minimum of a gtx 960 or better now)
-The ships and are beautifully designed. Update: even greater diversity of ships now. Oct 2020
-I really enjoy how the multitools work as weapons / tools and how they are replaced and upgraded.
-the game provides some challenge in terms of environment.
-The planets and creatures are awesome and diverse (enough).
-exploration via ship or on foot is wonderful.
-leaving a planet and landing on one is thrilling.
-crafting bases is fun and easy to understand.
-Grinding for resources is not necessary, IF!, one learns the shortcuts.

    Cons:
-Few intelligent alien life forms to fight against on foot (only the sentinals are available to fight)
-Little diversity in spaceship vs spaceship dog fighting.
-Void of other players to interact with.. Update: Oct. 2020, limited interaction with other players.
-The game could be more accurate in terms of elements e.g. di-hydrogen, deuterium, tritium and what could be used with such elements on the periodic table if not only to be educational.
-NO gas planets / giants? There should at least be planets that one should avoid at all costs or risk instant death and alternatively the player can send a probe into such planets.
-No interaction with Stars, no change in gravity experienced on different planet / massive bodies (Update: there is now different experiences in gravity... BRAVO!!).

Yes, it may not have fully lived up to the expectations that people had when buying it but people are missing the big picture that Hello Games made sure to accomplish before releasing the game: Exploration. Yes, there may have been a lack of actual gameplay but exploring worlds that no one but I will ever see in my lifetime is not only glorious but extremely wonderful and eye-opening. The graphics and color scheme were amazing, the small but substantive gameplay that they had were meant to strive for, and the random generated planets and galaxies were something to look forward to!!! Hello Games wanted you to get lost in each and every one of these planets and to focus less on the destination and revel every moment in the journey. A few things that they could have done to really sell the people at the initial release would have been to provide a better random-procedural algorithm for making some animals to prevent lookalikes on different planets!! But that just goes to show that science isn't perfect and animals can, due to convergent evolution, look the same. What I hope that people would continue to do is to keep playing the game and to not delete it. The developers at Hello Games have been working non-stop to deliver updates that would live up to your standards, your dreams. Also, if you love the modding community, look for some available mods on Nexus or any other modding website. They have people who are also truly passionate about the game and only want to get the best experience possible. Good Luck and Happy Exploring!!!! Expand

You are just a small person in a galaxy so huge, you will never fully discover everything in a lifetime - And you fight for your own reasons, you follow your own goals - And still you get a nicely done story line to follow, if you so desire.

Only thing that I didn't like is hiding some features behind progress walls - but these fade pretty early in the game and you are free to go. It doesn't change anything about the fact that this game is now a true 10/10.

It's been a long time since I last played No Man's Sky but after I updated the game I can't stop playing it. I like exploring but I also like that now there are missions available to get new blue prints. They come from the aliens who now staff my base and from the aliens on the stations. The patches have added the structure this game was missing on day one and it has made a huge difference.

I wish all of this new content would have been in the original game because I probably wouldn't have stopped playing it and the reviews might have been a little more kind. The star map is still a mess though and I hope another patch fixes it but the game is a lot better now. Also YouTube videos are a great resource for just about every question in the game. So if you haven't played No Man's Sky since if first came out you might want to fire it up again and see what's new.

No Man's Sky breaks the record in falling short of the hype – which is an incredible achievement in the category of super ambitious space games. The huge universe is a repetitive, lifeless and meaningless place, no amount of random generated creatures can change that. The most unforgivable fail is making the spaceship such a pain to fly, which makes exploring the vast universe simply a chore.
