Actually that's a bit harsh because the real culprit here is EA. That big company sucking Leviathan is trying its best to completely destroy Bioware like they did with Visceral games. So why is Andromeda such a painfully average game? Well many reasons actually but let's do this one at a time.

    Pros:
-Give credit where it's due, the graphics are pretty damn great. I was fortunate enough to purchase this game very late so all the hilarious bugs and glitches that i saw on the internet were thankfully non present throughout most of my experience and the game looked pretty appealing
-Driving the Mako actually feels nice for once and the whole planet traversing and exploration thing from Mass Effect 1 was brought back only this time so much more polished and satisfying
-The combat (while it's the most simplistic of the entire franchise) is pretty fluid and fun. Everything feels satisfying to shoot and the guns pack a good impact.

    Cons:
-This is my biggest problem with the game. The story. Needless to say the story in Andromeda is boring and cliche beyond all belief. It really is terrible. The Kett are the most generic type of grunts you'll ever see and the Archon is a budget version of Saren, only less interesting, less compelling and doesn't have a cool voice.
-The characters are also terrible. I mean nothing will ever really come close to the Normandy crew but the companions that you're given are beyond boring and uninteresting. Nothing feels urgent, nothing feels like an impending doom is coming, it's just a slog, a 20 hour boring slog.

In conclusion, Andromeda's gameplay isn't that bad but the gameplay isn't why people played Mass Effect. It was for the story, the interesting characters, the plot twists, the larger than life conflict. Because if you take all of those elements out you're left with a basic third person cover shooter and nowhere is this more obvious than in Andromeda

Btw, since the game came out in 2017, get ready for more and more and more feminism, where 90% of your side-characters, NPCs and bosses are women....and from minorities....eerrrrr majorities !

To summarize, that game could have been made by Oprah. And it is a pain in the *ss to play with the lack of content and the glitches.

Holly crap, I was going to buy ME Andromeda because i liked the first trilogy. After what I saw what the female character looks like in youtube, I completely lost my appetite to play the game. I rather play 2d games with nice looking character than this rubbish.

I played this game after all of its many release issues were resolved at V1.10.

    Story 8/10:
Having played all of the previous Mass Effect games, and thoroughly enjoying all of them (again I played them all after their patches were applied so I had less of an issue with the ending of ME3 than most), I had had some significant expectations for this ostensibly new entry. Up until now, Mass Effect has been known to have an amazing and exceptionally well-built universe and set of characters and relationships. Andromeda carries on this tradition with a strong lead protagonist in the shape of Ryder and the journey you experience from her perspective. The basic summary of the story is that you are part of a Milky-Way comprised coalition of species who have travelled across the void of dark space to the separate galaxy of Andromeda, in search of a new home and new discoveries (with other motivations for the journey that are revealed later in the game).

You share the loss of Ryder's father, the shock at your apparently comatose brother and several other major revelations that impact her view of how and why she is on this mission at all. Beyond the personal story of Ryder, you encounter a range of allies and compatriots who team up with to on your quest to save the Milky Way mission and to provide assistance to the apparently native species of Andromeda called the Angarans battle against what appears to be an interloping force called the Kett. This is all with the background setting of an imposing and likely galactic wide “infection” that has been dubbed the scourge - an electromagnetic disturbance that has channeled it's way throughout the region of space you inhabit for the duration of the game (dubbed the “Helius” cluster - a section of the larger Andromeda Galaxy).

All of these elements play well together in the way that you are never feeling like you are on a linear pathway, but rather exposing and exploring a new frontier of events and characters. The relationships you build help to foster a significant amount of emotionality to the core narrative arc and gives a greater sense of buy-in to the major plot points and story moments in the main quest-line. The narrative itself does rely on several well-worn tropes, and typical hero's journey components, but done so in a way that feels novel and relevant for the context, for the most part. Your companions are also highly likeable and there is only one that I felt was significantly poorly realised in their dialogue and actions (Liam), but otherwise, the full crew you have is well fleshed out.

    Gameplay 8/10:
The gameplay is a massive change from the previous ME games, which I think is for the better. There Is more freedom of movement in the battle-space, and more options for cover (which feels fluid and natural) and for attack/defensive actions (the full array of powers you can learn and deploy is huge, and gives a good variance to play-style).

I found myself taking a largely typical “Infiltrator” style build for the most part (sniper, with stealth support), but found that the systems gave me a great amount of flexibility to bend the typical ME rules and limits of this style and mix it up with tech powers and biotics that only made the gameplay more dynamic and interesting (instead of stopping me from exploring various elements of action/gunplay/power deployment etc until the next playthrough).

When not in combat the interaction you have in the world is simple but effective for the main narrative purposes you are presented with. It, at first, does feel a little jarring going from absolute freedom of the battlespace (with rocket-powered jumping and hovering) to a very restricted movement area and interaction “hot-zones” but this division feels well balanced as you get used to it.

    A/V 9/10:
By far the most impressive aspect of the game. The quality of the character models, textures, lighting and detail of the environments and space scenes was really inspiring to see. There was a lot of care and time placed into the creation of this world and the inhabitants within, and it feels very satisfying to explore it all and soak up the visuals.

The audio is just as well crafted with appropriate, and unique feeling space atmospheric, soundtracks and sound effects to bring the whole world together to feel rich and lived in. This goes especially for the sound effects of the weapons, which consistently feel appropriate and give a sense of power and weight to each weapon/power.

    Overall 8.5/10:
I feel that this is a great continuation of the Mass Effect series and I really do hope that EA/BioWare take up and continue the story of Ryder and of the Andromeda Initiative again, despite all of the negative reactions from some fans on release. I applaud the developers for taking on some new ideas and bringing a freshness to this already very well established universe and game series!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. (Note: This game is only worth ~ $10). While Andromeda is not close to comparing to the original trilogy, it sloppily delivered a game that was very enjoyable at face value. I only paid $5 (EA Origin Access), and I found it to be fun. The premise had such a great potential, exploring a new galaxy and finding habitable places for colonization while fighting a hostile alien species. But, this game didn't really follow through with any of its content. Also, character customization was, well, super lame. Every human looked similar because there is like 6 hairstyles per gender . I would of rather waited for EA and Bioware to wait another 3-4 years and had a legendary game similar to Witcher 3 or even previous Mass Effects.

The game felt rushed, even after a years worth of patches to fix it. Human faces looked lifeless most of the time, like talking to androids. Asari for some reason looked like chubby little kids, not how they used to in the PAST THREE GAMES, which doesnt make sense. Some of the voice actors were great, others sounded like they were picked up for $5 and a lollipop. More than half of the side quests and "tasks" were boring and lacked any depth. I ended up not even completing 20+ side quests just because it was the same three steps: Travel, Kill and Scan. But to be honest, it is hard to live up to the previous ME games.

(On a side note, many people complain about the SJW undertones, and while I understand, I don't think it affected the game to the point where it was something to dock points for. )

I completed all of the loyalty missions, a good chunk of side quests and then finihsed the story and it took 40+ hours to complete. It kept me hooked for the most part, and like I said earlier, it was a good game, not great or amazing. Members of the team you eventually pick up were here and there, two in particular I hated Liam and PeeBee. They were a good assembly of squad mates with fun personalities, but none compared to the previous games' squadmates. None of their backstories were expanded upon unfortunately.

The settings were cool for the most part, beautiful looking planets and hostile wild life was pretty entertaining at first, but got boring after playing for longer periods of time. Driving the Nomad was also incredibly satisfying. Combat was probably the best in the series in terms of shooting and fluid movement. I had a lot of fun with the combat, easily the best pro of the game.

To wrap up, I believe any Mass Effect fan should give this game a chance for a sale price of 5-10 dollars. While the game isn't great, its good, good enough to at least give a chance. I didn't experience to many glitches in my 40+ hours of playing. I think if EA and BioWare took more time to refine this game and add more "flavor" to certain areas, it would easily be comparable to the others in the series.

Next time, try not to be selfish EA, I find it hard to comprehend that rather than making an excellent game and putting the time and resources into it, they would rather make a average game at best and spending as little money as possible to rake in a larger profit. Please, for the love of god, take example from CD Projekt Red or even your other previous installments.

The game's main story is fine-ish, it isn't great; but the game shines in player stories, ryder is but a vessel for the player to express themselves and mold the world accordingly. Each friend mission and heleus assignment is a literal ride for players to actually role-play as a pathfinder; does the player keep on focusing on just his vengeance against the archon or does he help the angara, etc.
The world is brimming with potential; Though sadly we won't be seeing our decisions take fruition in the next part(i really do hope EA reconsider it)
The gameplay is simply put fun. On hard it is challenging enough to be fun without being pathetically imbalanced against the player; if i died i felt like it was my f*** up rather than cheap damage from enemies. The enhanced mobility in combat adds more than just speed to the combat but verticality also. The weapons are satisfying to use, the exploration is fun as well though platforming feels like a missed opportunity here. The AI though leaves a bit to be desired as sometimes they are smart to flank you and even flush you out of cover using grenades etc. forcing you to use the mobility that you have but sometimes they get stuck in between deciding whom to target(happened to me in 10% encounters across the 50 hour playthrough). The new dynamic profile system is fun to tinker with as well
The graphics are a mixed bag; facial animations suck to be put bluntly(Except for those few scenes which seem animated differently). The environment on the other hand though ranges from breath-takingly gorgeous or just meh(still miles ahead of stuff like no man's sky or the planet explored in previous mass effects). The moment when your ship docks in and you view the planet on foot is always makes you feel enticed to explore it.
The music is good, not too bad not too great but it does fit in well with whatever happens on screen(At least on my playthrough)
The menus are good and easy to navigate but they are overly done, to the point of being irritating. Even after the skip patch the planet zoom in to zoom out remains which loses novelty after first 3 times and then becomes irritating.
Overall, even after the patches the game remains buggy but never enough to outshine its strengths. The game is easily a 7.5/10(have to give 8 as metacritc doesn't have decimal ratings). Fun to play and a great sandbox to roleplay your character in; if you can bear through the irritating menus and occasional glitching

The changes to combat are great, in that you feel more versatile, agile, and height adds a third dimension to combat that was mostly missing in previous games. However, while the combat is a step forward, I see the skill system as a step back. Only three active abilities at a time? I don't find myself switching profiles that often during combat, so I'm frequently stuck with the same three abilities on repeat for most of the game. I found that to be a frustrating downgrade from the previous series. Not to mention that you're no longer in control of your allies abilities - who should I take into battle with me? It doesn't matter in the slightest!

The universe that's presented is large and varied, but it's also quite empty. Traveling from system to system is more of a chore than anything else because you can only land on a few planets to begin with (not that I would want to land on all of them anyways). Once you start on each planet, you have your typical quest hubs that send you out into the unknown to do the same old things over and over again - go out to a navigation point, fight a few guys, scan a thing, follow a trail of bread crumbs to another point, do the same thing, etc. The quests were so repetitive that it got on my nerves and I wished for the more linear style that we got in the previous games. That's where Mass Effect shined the best in the previous games and in this one, in my opinion. Send me on a mission, give me a beginning and an endpoint, and put some bad guys for me to shoot in between. Make me feel like I'm doing something. Too many quests result in simple skirmishes that are ended easily, not to mention the frequent respawns of enemies that pop out of nowhere like "Oh my gosh! I have to kill these guys!", except that you can just keep driving in your car and you can avoid them entirely.

In the year since release, I can say that the animations have been improved - I didn't see much of the laughable bad facial animations that were such a joke early on, but there were many bugs that caused me to either have to reload a save or wait for something to trigger on the computer's end. It made it frustrating because sometimes when I couldn't advance in a level I wasn't sure if it was me or the computer.

Ugh- so many things I want to say about this game, but it's really not worth it to put it all into words - basically, they made some things more complex than they needed to be, and should have done a better job.

This game saddens me not because of what it is, but because of what it could have been. I have 40 hours in so far, I've cleared the storyline, and the only thing I have in mind for sure is a single question: Why waste so much potential?

This game could have been much more than a not-exceptional-but-pretty-good one. It could have been a masterpiece given the appropriate time and resources.

But let's start with giving credit where it's due.

    - I waited a year to get the most optimized version possible (which shouldn't happen in the first place), and the technical difficulties that everyone has been complaining about are pretty much non-existent now, or at least I didn't experience them. Sure, some faces are frankly ugly and all Asari look the freakin' same except for Peebee, but animations are not bad. They're not good either but hey, Mass Effect was never known for its animations. The game is very pretty, and while it's not the technical breakthrough some people expected with Frostbite, it still does visual justice to the universe we're exploring (and a few sceneries are honestly gorgeous).
    - The actual gameplay is fantastic; gunfights are nervous, dynamic and the weapons have a very good feeling at usage (My sniper rifle's shot echoing through a valley is the most satisfying thing I've experienced in this game). The Nomad also handles pretty well (especially when comparing it to the Mako).
    - SOME quests are very good. For example, Cora's Loyalty Mission genuinely felt like I was back playing a ME3 mission all over again. It's a shame only a handful of other quests made me feel that way.
    - The profiles system is a good idea, even though it could have been pushed further with more specialized trees.
    - The companions are interesting to an extent (but the ability to roleplay is severely lacking compared to the OT).
    - The mystery surrounding a certain ancient species looks very promising for future installments (and their tech looks badass).

    Now onto the fun part:

    - The writing, for the most part, is atrociously cringey. Some lines of dialogue honestly felt like they were taken straight out of a bad Fanfiction.
    - I feel like the general tone is a lot lighter than the OT's, in a bad way. There are basically no stakes. No danger. The main enemy faction is a joke, a bad copy paste from the Trilogy's Reapers. The final mission started pretty awesome and ended in the most anticlimactic way possible. The only thing that kept me going, for the most part, is a completely optional side of the main quest.
    - While this is more of a personal grief, I don't understand why they felt that adding a single new species was a good idea. We mostly just see the OT's species in Andromeda.
    - Most of the quests are boring as heck. Their structure mostly consists of the talk-to-this-guy-go-there-talk-to-that-guy-come-back-fight-some-guys-yay-you-won thingy. MMO style fetch quests are not what Mass Effect is about. More quests like the Loyalty missions would have been appreciated. Those had stakes and genuinely made me worry about the characters and their motivations.

I'd give this game a 7.5/10 if that was possible, but that leans more toward 7 than 8. As a Mass Effect fan, I think, it loses a significant chunk of its charm, and I'd probably give it a solid 8/10 if I hadn't gone through Shepard's trilogy 15 times.

Again, what I see is so much burned potential. Even the animations look amazing in some scenes (no, I'm not joking, check Cora's intimate scene or the last mission's cutscenes), but they're below average most of the time. I'm not hating Bioware for this, but I'm definitely calling it a disappointment.

I bought it for 10 dollars, and I don't regret doing so. Some moments were genuinely fun. It's just that this game does not meet what we have come to expect from a Bioware game.

Dialogues: Very detailed and much fun. [Good language/Translation etc.]
Quests: Addional quests are also "good" not perfekt but good. [7/10]
Romances: You can go with nearly everyone you want, but its part has "romance scenes" with
    more "skin".

In total its a very nice game for me, i invested around 40h into this game and i dont regreat it.
Its a cool experience and even has a little "teaser" at the ending for ME:A2
I hope a new part comes out soon.

    (Sorry for my bad english)

I purchased the game on sale back in Jan 2018 and I am pleased I did.

I had fun with the first 3 instalment of Mass Effect and in truth, can't remember which one I preferred and why but in my opinion, it's still as much fun today with mass effect Andromeda. I have sunk tons of hours and now level 46 and soon ready to complete the latest main mission. I'll complete the game for sure

I have sunk tons of hours and now level 46 and soon ready to complete the latest main mission. I'll complete the game for sure but thought I had enough to write a review and believe it deserves it.

    What I liked is that:
    - it's big and somehow the main story, side missions and fighting keeps me interested all along
    - love the jetpack & various options to dispatch of the enemies, for me it does not get repetitive.
    - lots of choices at various mission with outcome you care and still enjoying the romance options
    - lots ( one could say almost too much ) dialogue & voice over ( though I should mention I went for the French version as I am bilingual) -> I don't listen to it all but I still enjoyed
    - graphic & science fiction setting are as good as ever.

I decided to purchase it on the PS4 as I was afraid my computer would not run it well and I had to adjust the TV resolution to 720dp and enable the zoom to make it comfortable to read and it's too bad they did not release a patch to allow to increase the font size but after a while I got used to it and it did not bother me as much. ( just zoomed in on occasion)

You could obviously expect more polish but considering the negative reviews, I was expecting a lot worse and was surprised to have so much fun. The glitch and weird animation that pops up just made me smile instead of Grinch -> no game breaking bug so far.

All in all, I say give it a chance on sale if you enjoyed the genre or previous mass effect games.

Hmm, i avoided this game longer time, because of negative critics and bad talks. Recently i played through it all. And i am glad i did. Its not best rpg, but its nowhere near anything bad, at all.
I played and loved ME1 and ME2, and all critics should be towards ME3, where whole ME saga went to crap, except pretty good characters, rest was **** game, crappy combat, story plot so dumb. ME3

Theres just one thing, suck ass characters are so omg, especially Peebe nightmare worst character i seen in games in long long time. There bioware totally screwed up. If unpatched game from start was way worse even with Ryder and others, it mustve been real hell, there i see source of bad critics.
All patched now, i quite enjoyed it. Story not stellar, but whatever. Combat is perfect, gears etc too, lot of exploring. Few annoying glitches, nothing serious. Except really really bad characters, bad written, and some SUPER bad looking. Looks count, ALOT, remember that, bioware.
I would give 8/10, had quite fun, but seeing those 0/10 crybabies, i am giving 10 to even it up a bit.

I have been a big fan of the Mass Effect series, ever since the first game. Of course, ME1 was not perfect. But the only thing I can honestly critique about it is the controls. ME2 was, in my opinion, perfection. One of the greatest games I have ever played and most definitely my favorite game of all times. ME3 was still very good, even though the "choices" they gave for the ending were, in my opinion, a lazy and rushed sort of decision to save money and time.
But, oh boy, don't get me started on Andromeda...
The first and foremost thing that really put a hamper on my excitement when I first started the game (which I bought despite it being a laughing stock in social media because of several bugs, the female models being disfigured on purpose after they were finished, the horrible facial expressions, etc.) was the fact that you could still not play other races in single-player. Not a huge problem and they never promised something like that, but it has been a wish of many players in the community and it was possible for DA, so why not ME?
The next thing that bothered me was that the thing that made the ME series so great, so unique compared to most other RPGs, was removed. Morality. Where in ME 1-3 every answer had the potential to influence NPCs reactions to you and you had special dialogues being unlocked depending on your play-style, in Andromeda, you don't have either. But as if that wasn't enough, you also don't have dialogue choices anymore. The game still gives you 4 choices but they are all the same, just said in a different way.
Since I already tore into the dialogues a bit, they sound like a robot wrote them. They are stiff, boring and often just cliché as hell. Lackluster, maybe inexperienced voice actors round the whole thing into a boring, annoying, unmemorable and in my case, mostly skipped experience.
The story line left much to be desired as well and it feels like almost all the money was spent on the visuals, leaving everything else in a more or less improvised state. The one point I give is really just for the big open world and beautiful graphics, which do little to nothing to redeem the game or make it worth the money I spent on it.
In my opinion, it was a big middle finger in the face of every fan of the series. And for everyone that played Andromeda as the first (and probably only) game of the series it must seem like a bland sci-fi rpg with a big open world that is way to big for its content.

EA destroy every single game and every developers studio they buy.Now they destroyed mass effect.Boring story line, ugly characters, lots of bugs all this you can find in ME andromeda.I think developers need to give back the money to every player for that сrap. Its looks like alpha test game of indie developer(but some indies better than that game) . SW battlefront 2 (2006) by free radical design(crytec)was masterpiece - in 2015 by EA its a crap with 6 maps to play(without dlc).Dragon age first was masterpiece - when EA releases inquisiton ive even cant get to the end of the game its so boring. And now they destroy mass effect.Great! When you playing this you feel really sorry for every single сent you spent.Boring quests, the same bosses - 5 or six architects and final boss is the same as all architects.Stupid dialogue system, but now we got gays and lesbians!I came to see some interesting stories, look at pleasant graphics not to listen gay revelations. No offence to such type of people but this in favorite game its awful.I will never buy again EA game because it pumps out money from fans and gives us piece of crap under mark of good games in the past. For example CD project red - this is best studio for now.Compare crap effect andromeda with witcher 3 and feel the difference. Expand

Don't get me wrong, the ME series will go down in history as one of my favorite series. ME:A is probably on the bottom of the list as far as ME games go but that doesn't mean it's not a bad game in the slightest. It has a very interesting story line, amazing combat, a decent if not steep learning curve, and your character is customizable to the littlest detail.

I have had discussions about ME:A with many people who have given it a bad score a lot of people give me the same reason; Bio got rid of everything about the old ME games. That is a problem... if you EXPECT this game to be anything like the old ones. I came into this game expecting something different. A different style, a different story, a different everything. The only thing tying the old ME games with ME:A is the fact that they are in the same universe. This is key. People come into ME:A expecting something like the old ME games and you cannot. This is it's own entity in its own right and if you go into it expecting the old ME experience, of course you're going to be disappointed. If you view the game as it's own entity with the only connection to the old games is the name, then you go into it with the proper amount of expectation.

Taking that into consideration, there were a few quests that were very boring and could be taken out and they could have put a lot more effort into crew quests and nexus quests. I feel if they make an addition to ME:A and they fix some of these minor issues with game play then they will have another title that I will put on the shelves with ME1,2, and 3.

One rule of thumb for video games, at least for me, is that they should be more interesting than re-watching shows on Netflix. This game does not pass that test.

Here is how I see it:

If you played Mass Effect 2 and loved it, then you will probably not like this game. It is very much like they took everything I either disliked or was indifferent to in the ME series and multiplied it by 100, and everything that actually made the series great was reduced.

I never really liked wandering around planets in that stupid truck. That is about 70% of the game now.
I never really liked scanning things. That is a huge part of the game now.
Mining? Didn't care for it. Hugely expanded.

And the stuff I did like? The combat missions that were the core of ME2? They are still there, but you have to suffer through hours of tedium between them. Most of the game seems to be driving around looking for people I don't care about to give me meaningless missions I don't care about which results in more driving around. Oh, and mining. And lots of puzzles. Yay, puzzles.

I spent a day and a half of my weekend playing this, and frankly I wish I'd spent it watchin Dr. Who reruns, or maybe cleaning my garage. In that entire time there was maybe 2 missions that were even close to what the normal missions in ME2 were like.

    So, to sum it up:

Driving the truck around planets is boring.
Talking with people you don't care about is boring.
    Solving puzzles is annoying.
    Mining is boring.
    The characters are not compelling.
The story arc is not compelling.
The interesting combat missions are too few and far between.
Tiny little meaningless battles in the middle of nowhere are absolutely no replacement for actual ME2-style missions.

I'm done. Thank God it was only $13. If I had paid full price I would be really annoyed.

I loved the trilogy. Sure those games had their flaws too, but all in all I enjoyed them still.

But this game is not worth a full price. Not by a long shot.

It has a MASSIVE SJW undertone, where humans are mostly black or brown, and even the white ones look like black with white skin.
That they tried to put SJW propaganda in it becomes very evident when you go into a museum of some sorts where all the species from the Milky Way introduce themselves through VIs. We all know that all the other species have different colors, skin patterns, or even horns, etc. And they dont talk about it in their VIs. But humans do. They proudly say that there are many colors and religions and that they all worked together and overcame their differences. I have never seen a more pathetic and disgusting virtue signalling in a game before.

Add to that the childish dialogue, often completely irrelevant, which sometimes left me standing there with an open mouth and 3 question marks over my head, bland characters (which often are actually annoying) and the mandatory character with a Scottish accent, bad quality assurance (lots of ridiculous bugs, even with the newest version), bad graphics that stutter a lot and seem to come from the first 2 ME parts, planets that seem to come straight from some MMO RPG (one planet reminded me very much of a zone in Guild Wars 2 for example), bad console controls that are extremely frustrating, a boring character and weapon/armor/equipment advancement system, boring and super easy encounters with enemies (incl. very weak AI), a story that doesnt seem to know what it wants or where to go and MMO-like side quests and you have this disgrace of a game.

Dont get me wrong, I still played through it, but I often was extremely annoyed by it, so that I often asked myself why I even play this game, for example having to read and listen to all these stupid conversations and dialogue (which is a huge part of the game). Its worth it for $10 to $15. But not a dime more.

Please, BioWare, dont destroy this IP by continuing like this in the next part. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE replace the development team, especially those who did the story, the characters, the dialogue, the SJW propaganda with people who know what makes good games and the gameplay design. People like those can work at Buzzfeed or CNN and write their propaganda there, but that has no place in a game. Not even Star Trek (except the new series) ever was that audacious with their morality, and I loved Star Trek because of its morality. But it was normal. Nobody ever talked about skin color, because it was normal to have aliens and colored humans around. NOBODY CARED ABOUT THAT! Why do you care all of the sudden???

The game is most definitely beautiful, especially the interstellar travel parts and on 4k monitor. The story is good and the main missions are interesting. One of the best parts - you get a freaking good-looking vehicle, the Nomad, to explore the planets (it does not have a gun, which would've been perfect, but anyway). The combat is pretty good, with many fighting styles.
The good part pretty much ends with that. The conversations are very long, sometimes even meaningless and awkward. The flirting is awful and there is no one to even want to flirt with - the asaris and the angara are disgusting, there is just one normal looking human female (with bad hair) with whom I didn't find a way to flirt... you can have the guys if you are gay (I'm not). The side missions get repetitive and boring pretty soon (I just liked driving the Nomad, that's why I finished most of them).
To summarize, you get a mixed gameplay experience, with a downward progressing sentiment, i.e. you like the game less and less as you progress through the game.

I really only have one bug (a green flashing when I load the game), which is easily solved by changing the video output.

Anyway, I feel like this may be my favorite Mass Effect game. The other reviews are correct--the facial animations are horrible, some of the walking/running animations are bad, the new characters aren't as interesting as the old ones (I really want Garrus back). Some of the dialogue is also pretty bad. That's why it's not 10/10...

HOWEVER: the combat is great, I honestly feel the best in the series, and exploration is hands-down the best in the series. Planets actually have some size to them--planets in the old games were always tiny and felt fake. Mining is also better in this one, far better than in previous titles (most similar to ME2, but it's on the ground this time). Since I play this game for combat and exploration, not for dialogue, these factors are more important.

And the story actually *is* innovative, more innovative than in the originals. What was the plot of the originals--save the galaxy from the bad aliens. We've done that a million times. What's the plot of this one? Explore a new galaxy, terraform and colonize planets to save your pioneers--while making friends and foes among new races. That's a much more original concept.

It's a real shame this game came out with all its technical problems, and that they didn't spend more time on the animations and writing. But for me, this is a great game and I love it.

Andromeda certainly is a quite polarizing game, but Jesus lord Christ allmighty its not as bad as the internet hate train suggests it to be. Weakest Mass Effect game ? 100 % yes, Bad game ? Not by a long shot.

Biggest 2 sins the game commits from my experience are the still even in build 1.09 present numerous bugs, glitches and other technical issues like lazy animation work and badly lit enviroments, plus the disappointing writing, as much as people like to hate on voice actors, you have to remember an actor can be only as good as the script he works with.

I should also add, while PC version has plenty of features and customasibilty, the PC port's performance is very sub par, i had to go along Medium settings to get playable performance when i can run Frostbite games like Battlefield 1 and Mirror's Edge Catalyst on Ultra 40 - 50 fps on my GTX 1050 Ti, here in Adromeda on Ultra im getting pathetic 20 - 25 fps, stutter, fps drops all over the place, complete game freezeups for 5 - 10 seconds, i have strong suspicion of memory leakage cuz my 8 GB of RAM gets maxed out. I've even seen GTX 1060 not being able to reach stable 60 fps on Ultra where as in Battlefield 1 that card does near 100 fps...

I blame EA the most for this game's rushed release date and unfinished state, extra couple of months couldve done the game so much good helping deliver well running game and fixed animations plus other technical mishaps, there's no chance all this crap didnt got raised up in quality control departments during game testing, yet EA just ingored everything and sabotaged the game's launch and never fixed it proper., they just ran away from the criticisms with head burried in sand.

With that out of the way i have to say game is still luckily playble with turned down settings, otherwise i wouldnt had invested nearly 4 weeks into completing it. Some of the saving graces are the planet and Heleus cluster systems space exploration. It doesnt reinvent open world gameplay, but still driving Nomad over the maps, exploring places, driving up and over mountains, seeing the great looking environments, it all kinda adds up for an enjoyable spent time. The Tempest is a really cool place to be in, good amount of attention to detail has been put into Tempest interior, it really felt like being on Normandy again for the first time, this time there are more windows on space so you can see the planets, stars and other bodies in space which are quite well made to feel authentic,
looking into space from Tempest's bridge its especialy awesome, it really feels like youre out in vaquum of space, something trilogy's games didnt really made you feel like that well.

Characters wise, there's no denying, original trilogy's lineup is an extremely tough act to follow, but Bioware Montreal didnt actually disappoint, Vetra, Jaal, Drack, Pebee, Cora and Liam was a cool team to have, some of them can be annoying at times, true, but i really enjoyed their banter, their loyalty missions, light they shed on their history and reasons why they joined the initiative. However the Tempest crew felt a bit lacking, while he's no Joker i still liked Kello, Lexi was alright, but Suvi and Gil especialy felt like not well developed, written charcters to me.

As for Ryder, i dont know, Ryder aint no Sheperd, what hurt Ryder the most was the dialoge that was written for him/her, lack of ability to create an attractive person to play as, really i have no idea why nearly all presets are so horrid looking, had to go with one of the female asian ones which is most acceptable looking one and those still existant goofy facial animations in places. I even think they should've let us play as old man Ryder not his children, or atleast give us an option to do so.

On story side of things, there were ups and downs but overall, the main missions, the unique places you go to, new people you meet, all had something interersting enough to offer for me as a Mass Effect fan. I genuinely enjoyed the mysteries and revelations Heleus cluster had to uncover. Kett threat probably wasnt as menacing as i wanted it to be, also you get very little exposure with main baddie Arcon. Finding intel about other species missing arks with their Pathfinders and tracking them down was cool and intriguing. What the story lacked heavily perhaps were the really emotional moments and properly important feeling choices of the trilogy.

In the end im really sad about how EA treated Andromeda, it still sold enough copies to make them profit, the reviews werent so bad, still they cancelled any planned DLC like Quarian Ark that me and millions of fans would've wanted, closed the Montreal studio entirely, they put whole Mass Effect franchise on ice in favor of Destiny type online casino cash cow game, this is not the fate Andromeda or Mass Effect as a whole deserved.

Despite what a lot of people are saying, this is actually a great open world RPG, post-patch of course. I am a huge fan of the series, but this one isn’t as good as its predecessors.

    Time Invested: 80 hours

    Story/Characters:

This is really the heart of the Mass Effect series. We all want a great story and memorable characters and there are definitely elements of that here, but it’s not on the same level as the series’ previous entries. I did think that the main quest was interesting, but it was actually the planet exploration and loyalty quests that I enjoyed the most. You do encounter some great characters and others that you could care less about so it can be a tossup. I do feel that it gets better the more you play.

My biggest complaint about the story is the main villain who is generic and reminds me too much of the main villain from DAI. Additionally, there are a ton of unanswered questions that we may never get answers to.

    Gameplay:

I thought the gameplay here was overall quite good. The UI is easy to navigate and doesn’t seem like a console port at all. The controls for the nomad are smooth and it is a blast to drive. Combat is downright FUN! The jetpack is super sweet, but I wish there were more options for weapons and armor. I really enjoyed the sniper rifle, but got the best one maybe 20 hours into the game so it left me wanting more.

One of my biggest complaints is that the space exploring mini game is reduced to nothing more than a waste of time. You basically fly to a planet, launch a probate and click the mouse. It has been so dumbed down that it is no fun at all.

    Graphics/Sounds:

Graphics are downright awesome. Planets are beautifully designed and a blast to explore. I played this post-patch (since I learned my lesson quite early to NEVER preorder a game) and there were no major animation issues. However, I will say that the eyes of the characters looked like everyone was sleepy all the time lol.

This is another RPG with a great soundtrack that I wish was played more often.

    Conclusion:

Overall this is a stellar open world RPG. I think it starts out a bit slow, but it grew on me the more I played and I thoroughly enjoyed planet exploring and the loyalty quests. There is a ton of content here to keep you busy. I spent 80 hours on just one playthrough which is awesome! It may not be as good as the other Mass Effect games, but it is certainly worth a buy from any fan of the series or a fan of the genre. It’s not nearly as bad as some make it out to be.

Most of gamers like to feel as "themselves" when playing and RPG games and MASS EFFECT Andromeda does exactly the opposit, it puts the player in the skin of a "ship" when we all want to be the "wolf".

if you compare this "new commander" to Shephard (god forgive me), all you have is an imbecile unable to "talk back" when people say he/she is wrong, most of decisions you have to make try to acommodate "everyone's" wants and needs and that is BAD, you cannot favor or criticise races in the game and everything revolves around a very weak storyline. It was just as good if not better than all the previous Mass Effect titles. I feel like the creators took everything that was good about the previous games and incorporated that into Andromeda. I really enjoyed the character customization with the various skill trees, the research/development, and some of the other new things like Strike Teams, etc. I have to admin that I relied on Google to help me with some tutorials of the new systems, but I was able to find the information, understand, and enjoy them so I'm not docking them for that.

The storyline was a fun way to expand the ME universe. Going 600 years in the future, with no ability to contact the Milky Way galaxy. But you still have everything about the ME galaxy that went with the colonists to Andromeda, with all the new discoveries that the Helius cluster has to offer. Without giving away too many details, the actual events in the storyline were interesting and enjoyable.

Something I also enjoyed was the characters themselves and the dialogue between them. if you've played ME before, you know they already have done a great job with character development and making you truly care about these people. With Andromeda, they continued that great work. I thought that Andromeda had a lot more humor than the previous titles, and that may be because of the personality differences between Shepard and Ryder. It was a lot of fun, and I think it worked well.

I probably missed a lot of things in my review, but I wanted to write SOMETHING about this game because I feel that the critics got it all wrong and were way too harsh with the criticism. Something needed to be said. If you haven't checked out this game, I would definitely recommend it. Great work BioWare! Here's to hoping you guys make a sequel.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I never write a review, but as I loved this game so much I will. The story was short but amazing - please don't just play the story and leave out all the side bits as a lot of the quests actually sit well with the story. I haven't finished the game as of yet, I am on the last mission which is on hold - until I have done the whole game including all tasks.

I am well over 70 hours in and at completion of 58%. A lot of the reviews on here moan about animation and looks ect. However, the animation is amazing considering how much content is available there is a few lip sync issues ect but the developers have released a patch and are listening to reviewers. I remember the days of eye of the beholder and wizardry series the graphics were - well non existent but the games made up for it in story telling ect.

I have played all mass effect games and dragon age games and love them equally. Reviews these days are mostly based on cosmetic value and graphics and glitches. However all games to start with have teething problems - there is no perfect world - you build and adapt and improve ect. I take my hat off to bio ware - they have made one amazing game and I hope they do not stop making these type of games due to the hate of individuals. Maybe I am just an old fart hehe. Don't be a sheep and follow the quantity of bad reviewers - follow the few and quality reviewers :) try it your self - get a hard copy - play it if you do not like return to shop.

    Positive
Breath-taking worlds to explore - gorgeous scenery.
Engaging romance options and story with fun side quests and intriguing knowledge behind the initiative.
Brilliant combat and is hilarious when you use your mini poc combat revenant :)

    Negative
Some animation problems - however bio ware is fixing this and patch released (not so negative :P)
Travelling to each little planet is long winded but is gorgeous on hdr pc - feels like being in space so can be overlooked.

if I have typos I do apologise I am an old git lol - and please do not troll me for being honest as a relic gamer ;)

-Dialogue does the job but feels uninspired and sometimes cringy.
-After ME3 these flight animations feel like forever and the hubs are not designed for ease of access to the ship. Overall a lot more time spent waiting than in ME3.
-Side quests are not very meaningful and feel forced just to add more "depth" to the world. There is just so much more stuff to do and while that is not necessarily a bad thing if you are into that style of gameplay it does not add much else for the others who were expecting meaningful interactions like the ones found in the trilogy.

So... if you were expecting another ME game you will be disappointed but if you dont mind Oblivion style faces/animations/dialogue and havent played the main trilogy then by all means give this a go. After all that it is one of the free games on Origin Access which is only $5 and includes the original trilogy.

I am a slow learner because the Mass Effect series is near and dear to me, but the latest installment is an utter disappointment and I believe a true testament to where we stand in the video game industry. There are only a handful of games that I've purchased that I truly regret spending my money on because I tend to do my research and form a usually informative decision but in this case I am painstakingly upset. I feel Andromeda was a complete waste of money and I really don't want to state this but releasing games of this quality actually encourages pirating and I think EA should be ultimately ashamed. Just about every aspect of ME:A is a complete downgrade and a move in the opposite direction. The combat, dialogue, story, characters, and overall RPG elements are lacking tremendously and it shows in every category. The story and questing get boring so fast and almost the entire galaxy feels empty and pointless. We all know how bad the facial animations are even after corrections, but how sad is the directionless plot and meaningless quests? The core game ends rather fast and you are left with about 5 empty planets that are left 90% unexplored because they are left out of this core game. On top of all this is the dreadful galaxy map and travel system that even after a tab skip was implemented the entire system is tedious and a real bore. The final icing on the cake is the less than mediocre multiplayer and in the end you are left with a steaming pile of crap. I think it is also important and humorous to mention that I have a very good rig with an overclocked GTX 1080 and the game with all current updates runs horribly, constantly lagging and stuttering in 4K, which does not occur with any other PC title I run. It is hard to say these things and this is tough love because I have old attachments to the Mass Effect series and Bioware, but the direction their moving in and EA in general feels very easy to criticize. If things continue in this direction I will be forced as a gamer to completely severe my support of EA and never purchase a title again that has their name anywhere near it. Expand

The combat is fun and there are tons of tactics that you can use, you won't find many people who play similarly. To give a clue on game length, i did about 90% of the content and it took me roughly 50 hours for my first play-through.

    Is it worth buying? Yes.

I'll go through some things in the game so people can check it out to see if this is something you want to experience.

    Pros:
    - I enjoyed the characters, Cora has a very coy thing going on for her romance which was cute. Liam seemed like a well intentioned idiot whom I didn't appreciate but hey it's a character. Vetra is the responsible/cool type. Jaal was truly alien to me which is good (he is a part of the non milky way galaxy species). Dreck was a grizzled veteran. Peebee was a very mercurial and selfish character who was surprisingly not unlikable. The side characters were nice as well and they all have their own quirks. Are these characters equal to Mass Effect 2? No. Are they better than James Vega? Yes.

    - As I said above, combat was enjoyable and had highly customization

    - Story was good, some nice twists and a hanging mystery which I assume will be handled by DLC.

    - The bad guys are bad guys, they are refreshingly evil. The "grey" bad guy archetype i've been seeing in most media now a days has been annoying me and this really hit the spot.

    Cons:
    - You'll see plenty of this, if you choose to look, but Female Ryder is not physically appealing, Male Ryder looks 100x better (there is a very good reason for Sara's specific ME:A commercial to have her with a helmet on 90% of the time and the other 10% the scenes are heavily shadowed AND super quick.) Facial animations are kind of wonky as well, but it is possible to overlook.

    - Female Ryder equates to Male Ryder personality wise and they share almost every line/inflection, I may be remembering this wrong but I remember female Shepherd having a distinctly feminine edge to her even though she was a soldier and shared many lines with Male Shepherd. Female Ryder's personality/line reading seems off and I couldn't shake the dissonance in my head while I was playing.

    - ME:A shares the same issues as other mass effects, the higher the difficulties the more "bullet-spongy" the enemies become.

    - Your allies are poor fighters, they use their powers pretty much on cool-down but if they aren't using their abilities they are hiding behind a wall. It's standard AI.

    - The planets are huge, but there is little reason to explore. The game has WOW problems where you will always be following waypoints to your quest destination. Speaking of:

    - Waypoint system, I understand you need this for a game so large but it doesn't change the fact that I missed most of the multiple planet's beauty that dozens of animators poured their heart into because I was looking at the waypoint tracker at the top of the screen.

    - Running over enemies with your "mako" doesn't insta-kill like it did in Mass Effect 1. I was crushed when I figured that out.*wink*

    Final Thoughts:
Mass Effect: Andromeda is a nice game and a great jumping point for the new series. There are many faults with the game from a gameplay/graphics side but the developers assembled a nice cast of characters that make the game purchasable.

    Side note:
Watching YouTube reviews of the game (which prompted me to give the review) I've seen a lot of mention of SJW propaganda going through the game. While I was playing I did not notice it. Make of that as you will.

The standard on release was simply unacceptable for the price. I don't know what happened to the facial animation but I have seen better facial animations made by high school students or hobbists who do it for free.

And plenty of bugs, there's too many. Only fix was a refund. If you are reading this and you haven't played Andromeda, then just don't. The previous ones were great and this

Terrible buggy game even after the final patch. Maybe if they spent less time being racist sjw liberals and more time as game developers it would have been functional. It just shows how inept sjw's are. They were handed a beloved seriries that should have been an easy hit and ruined it

Even tho its being recieved as the worst mass effect i dont believe this to be true in my opionion. my personal rank is me2, meA, me3, me1. Mass effect 2 is at the top for a superb story, interesting charaxters, much improved combat, great DLC, and great replayability due to actual consequential choices. Mass effect andromeda is number 2 in my opionion because it features the best exploration in the series, and the most refined combat experience. which to me makes it more replayable than me3 and me1.

An utter disgrace to Mass Effect series. This, is an unfinished project that is hurried to the market.

Into it 5 or 6 hours, quit it indefinitely. After the patches, it's still impeccably bad. The facial expressions, animations, weird control. It doesn't feel ME. And do I need to clarify how bad a client Origin is? No screenshot function, awful transactions. And the game itself,

No screenshot function, awful transactions. And the game itself, sucks so bad gets into Origin Access just 3 or 4 months later. I appreciate the efforts from devs, this game, looks like Mass Effect but doesn't feel like it. The plot is inconsistent, and un-mesmerizing. Side missions are just as pointless as what Dragon Age Inquisition did. They are so pointless that you don't want to accept at all. Gladly they have that "no" option, unlike Fallout 4. The jokes are real, the roasts from Internet.

I would just like them to have a ME3 game. With the same engine, same structure, new plot new maps. Nothing big has to change, just details.

This game is so bad in so many levels. I quit the game after 5 or 6 hours. It's unfinished, so obvious. And they dropped the support for this unfinished game. Really? After the Araga encounter, I can feel the utter disrespect from devs, how they delivered this unfinished project. Boom. money grabbed and gone. Ranges from inconsistent plot, weird control, and animations. I'm done with this game.

Ok let's start off with the obvious, the animations in this game are horrible and I think more time should have gone into testing this game before its release, this can also be seen in the amount of bugs and glitches the game has (we're talking Skyrim level here).

As for other negative aspects; The story isn't spectacular, the lighthearted options (casual/emotional) for dialog aren't that well written; but well delivered to be fair and the user interface has no logical design to it; its honestly just an endless sea of menu's and folders, and and just a personal issue is having to check your email on the Tempest (I know it was like this in the trilogy too but now you have the forward stations on each map, no reason we can't check there) is a pain.

Now that that's out of the way onto what I like about Andromeda, and there is a lot to like:

The combat is easily the best the series has had so far, the jump jet adds so much here allowing the combat to be faster and smoother than in previous instalments, the profiles system is fantastic allowing you switch out your powers/abilities on the fly again adding much more variety to the combat than previous games.

The vehicle sections are also the best series has had so far (which admittedly isn't hard after the Mako & Hammerhead), exploring these vast open worlds is actually enjoyable thanks to the Nomad, while I wouldn't mind having a weapon mounted, vehicle combat isn't really missed. The Nomad handles beautifully and being able to mod it and customise the paint job was a nice touch.

Exploration is great, the worlds of Andromeda are interesting & diverse, each with their own personality, story & dangers. It's the first time in a Mass Effect game I've landed on a planet and thought, lets just pick a direction and see whats out there and ended up in an unexpected situation, this kept me engaged enough to keep coming back.

Crafting, aside from the awful UI I mentioned before the crafting system here is fantastic, with enough resources and research you can build any weapon you want (i'm personally loving my sticky grenade firing machine gun with infinite ammo), and it's the same with armour too, augmentations can grant you a variety of perks to use in the field to boost shields, power cool downs etc.

Characters, now I know that Mass Effect has a huge roster of brilliant, irreplaceable characters from the first 3 games and to some no newcomer can ever live up to them, I understand this but at the same time I found myself getting attached to this new crew, Liam & Cora aren't great but Drack, Vetra, Jaal & Peebee are all great additions to the Mass Effect universe and I had a blast exploring along side them. This is helped by the welcome return of Mass Effect 2's loyalty missions.

The enemies in this game are also good, whilst not as bone-chillingly ominous as the Reapers the Kett serve as a decent villain here, their story is interesting and discovering their connection to the other Andromeda residents gives you plenty of reasons to want to shoot them some more.

The Ending (no spoilers), one of the main things I was worried about going into this game was how it would end, after Mass Effect 3 we needed to end this game on a high note and it does deliver, the final mission is so satisfying and whilst the final boss battle is fairly uninspired the ending as a whole is a positive and a great foundation for future instalments and DLC expansions.

So is this the best game ever, no, does it have problems, yes, but is it a good game, definitely. Whilst not quite living up to the hype following the original trilogy Mass Effect Andromeda provides us with a solid foundation to relaunch the series away from Shepherd and the Reapers, it feels very much like a spiritual successor to Mass Effect 1 rather than a sequel to Mass Effect 3 & I can understand why this isn't what some people were looking for but personally I think it's what the series needs to keep going.
Hopefully the issues I raised at the start will be addressed and patched (I know some have already started) so the game can truly shine but as it stands right now I give Mass Effect Andromeda a 7/10

Ok, now I've returned to the game many months later and now that the patches are all in and the disappointment that there will be no single player DLC has passed I'm revising my score.
The animations are much better, the new additions like returning to the character creator after you've started, higher inventory limit, extra free outfits, new weapons, new mods/augments, an extra romance for BroRyder and a nice expansion of the multiplayer (characters & weapons) are all great as well.
While not fixing all of my issues (the menu still sucks) I'm upping my score to an 8/10, still not perfect but definitely a worthy addition to the Mass Effect name.

Also, main character is like playing as a 15 year kid and the plot, oh wait, is there a plot? I've played over 10 hours and there's not a story to be found. Shame when the story writers, gameplay developers, and designers all drop the ball. Additionally, for some reason all the female characters are kinda unattractive both physically and personality wise. Not sure why, but something is very off with them. I don' t really care if they're superhero comic hot but to make them all unappealing is weird.

It saddens me to give this game a 4/10 but even free, it's not worth your time.

You take the roll of one of the Ryder twins, members of the "Andromeda Initiative", a joint coalition of various Milky Way species to journey to and colonize the Andromeda galaxy, our closest neighbor in the universe. Naturally, things go pear shaped almost as soon as you wake from cryo after the 600-some-odd year journey through dark space.

This distant sequel cleaves itself immediately from the events of the trilogy, hoping to make a fresh start as the colonists do. At the same time, it tries to evoke the spirit of the first game- a classical space opera of exploration, discovery and adventure. While that spirit can be felt, the reality of the game feels a bit hollow. My main gripe with the game is its sheer, padded length. The game is filled to the brim with unskippable cutscenes, fetch quests and the same dreary scanning for minerals and anomalies that has plagued the series since its inception. I played it for almost seventy goddamn hours and it really drags after the first thirty. I'm grateful for the explosive finale, or it might not have felt at all worth it. I had a similar issue with games like Mad Max, Kingdoms of Amalur, Metal Gear Solid V and especially Skyrim: There's too much to do and not enough of it feels worthwhile. The story feels a bit lacking as well: When your previous entry literally had the fate of a galaxy in the balance, a simple tale of colonization doesn't have nearly the same punch. I can't blame the team for things like this. Even with all the problems Mass Effect 3 had, there was simply no way to make a satisfying followup. And I think there was something to be said for the linear gameplay of both 2 and 3.

Also, I kind of liked the Quarians. Their absence from the game almost in its entirety, only getting a brief mention in the epilogue was felt.

But you've heard all this crap already. Let me talk about what I liked about Andromeda. I loved the car. The Nomad is as close to the Mako as I suspect we'd be permitted to get. It doesn't quite measure up, but it sure as hell looks cooler, and the environments were designed with it in mind- and that was not always the case in the first game. I loved the combat. It's fast and punchy, with the welcome addition of jump jets totally changing the dynamic from the comparatively stiff and clunky third game. This extends readily to the cooperative multiplayer, easily the game's best offering. While it retains the tired "booster pack" system of 3's coop, the drop tables are at least improved in such as way as to give you access to better characters and weapons early on. Also, while the combat in multiplayer is on the whole more challenging then 3, encouraging you to take advantage of your newfound speed and jump/dodge capability, the difference between bronze, silver and gold difficulties is less drastic. The combat is good enough that it carried me through to the end of an otherwise boring playthrough.

And I liked a lot of the characters. Mind you, Liam is as boring as Jacob, unsurprising given that they had the same writer. But Cora could easily have been worse, as could Peebee and Vetra. Drack was a huge hit, as with any of the krogan, who I think have the lion's share of quality lines and story, in this and the trilogy. But the real breakout hit was Jaal, and you can tell he was likely the dev team's favorite- the token local Andromeda boy, a smooth talker, sniper and user of the ever popular Shadow Strike. The banter between your squadmates and your ship's crew is deep and varied, and often poignant or at least amusing. They're a good bunch and I was happy to have them.

At the end of the day, Andromeda could have been a great game, though I argue that it was at least a good one. It's fault is its parentage- EA's talent for continually shooting themselves in the foot and running their own franchises into the ground is evident. The fact that there will be no singieplayer DLC is almost unheard of- and not a good indicator of the game's success. I hear they will even go so far as to resolve the obvious cliffhanger of the Quarian Ark in a comic book or something of the like.

I wish the best to Bioware in the future, and other developers at EA's mercy. I know they're capable of more. I just pray they get the chance to show it.

    Очень_плохая_игра.
Можете смело ее пропускать, как Инквизицию. Она ничем не лучше, только гринда поменьше. Персонажи блевотные, локации унылые, сюжет отталкивает, интереса не вызывает.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Very, very expensive ME2 DLC. Mass Effect Andromeda is not ME4 or a new ME. Is just a DLC. A new entire and unexplored galaxy that have only one specie that turns into another bad guys specie (second specie) and some robots. Wait..... Pfff.... Everybody from milky way is already there..... The fauna and flora from every planet are the same but different colors...
Anyway... No point still rating it but I can't die before express my indignation of this pure marketing game.
I'm not going to write the very same rating that ppl disappointed with the game keep writing.
I'll give it 3 cos of the combat that sometimes still repetitive and boring... The team? Which team?.. I spoke only to Suvi cos of her voice... The most buggado game ever... Put Bethesda in the pocket. (SJW? God help us all... Don't let it invade our games.....)
    RIP Shepard...

    @edit
    I forgot to say...
This game is or at least tried to be part of the global left wing agenda.... SJW, gayzism, feminism, etc... Everything that destroy the moral and good manners...
So... Pay attention you new generation.. Go study and try to avoid fake news...
..."Oh look!!! This guy have only one review. bah ha ha ahaa"...
Yes.. I don't use to get out there making reviews. If I like, I like!!. If I don't.. Well... you know...
But in this case, I had to create an account especially to express my indignation cos I'm a big fan of the trilogy. More than 1100h only ME3 plus multiplayer. Where I had countless moments of fun...
And please... Don't kill me cos of my bad engrish... I'm from another galaxy... far... far away from Andromeda....

Huge mass effect fan. This game is definitely the weakest one in the franchise. Comparing this game to assassin creed or fallout 4, i would say its pretty good. but if i compare it with mass effect 1,2, witcher 3 its nowhere near that epicness. I think the developers tried to make a big world to explore and forgot that the fans dont want open world rather we want great experience withHuge mass effect fan. Its never been about open world in this game. Hopefully they will learn from this next time. No Open world games from Bioware. Facial animation is pretty bad even with the fixes although im not really much bothered but it should atleast be the quality of facial animation of witcher 3 from a company like bioware. Well this is a disappointment but definitely not a bad game Expand

Postcard-pretty landscapes is pretty much all that there is good about Andromeda. They serve as backdrops for a boring, cliche-ridden, somewhat demented story with forgettable characters and even more forgettable missions.

Enough of the classic Mass Effect, with enough new mechanics to keep the game fresh. [Hollingworth; Issue#261, p.55]

An earnest attempt has been made to create a new identity for a series here, but the question of how to best frame Mass Effect's narrative strengths is, once again, left open. [June 2017, p.90]
