    This remaster hits a few major points when it comes to refreshing an old game. But blurry, upscaled backgrounds and a missed opportunity to go from 4:3 to 16:9 aspect ratio, leave much to desire here. Yet, it is still as great game as it ever was. It's just easier to see it, this time around.

    Final Fantasy 8 Remastered keeps everything that made the original a classic, including its polarizing leveling system, the Triple Triad card game, and the ugly backgrounds. The game's ugly graphics outside of the character models makes it feel like a half measure at times, but regardless, Final Fantasy 8 Remastered is still the best way to experience the game today. Oh, and the soundtrack is still fantastic, too.

    The game has some issues, but it is still a high-quality title for all JRPG fans. The remaster would deserve much more care, but its base works and it doesn’t make things unnecessarily difficult for you. [Issue#299]

    The 20-year-old Final Fantasy VIII has been resurected by this Remastered with several really useful cheats. We appreciate the new 3D models but, once again, the 4/3 ratio, and some missing features that are standard on Zodiac Age, for example, feels a bit sad.

    Final Fantasy VIII is still a great game and if you’re playing it for the first time, I’d suggest getting this version. If you already have an earlier release however then it’s hard to justify the cost. A few graphical tweaks and some blurring isn’t worth the money for me: I could get a similar effect by taking off my glasses before playing and save myself 16 quid in the process. A poor remaster of a great game.

    Final Fantasy 8 did not age well, and I would not recommend it as an introduction into JRPGs, but it does offer an interesting introspective at the history of this genre. Unfortunately, the remaster is quite shoddy, and there is no better official version than this.

    The cheats system propels you into battles and a new game cruise just for the heck of it without any further annoyances (must be my 20'th playthrough in history).
    The 3x action button makes it easy to run faster through places, and it's great.

    So i cannot simply say it's junk like the haters leaving bad marks here. I really have no clue what runs through their mind when they tag a 0 to this masterpiece. Their life must be frighteningly dark.

    But i digress, this amazing game needs a complete overhaul, new cinematics, enhanced action and extended adventure. I would LOVE a remake.

    I love Final Fantasy 8 and ofcourse I was silliy enough to pre-order this game for PC and PS4. This game is a joke and not a remaster. It isI love Final Fantasy 8 and ofcourse I was silliy enough to pre-order this game for PC and PS4. This game is a joke and not a remaster. It is the worst Remaster I have ever played. Yes the character looks upgraded but all the rest is downgraded graphicaly. Everything is so blurry that it hurts my eyes to play the game. I have tested it around 20 minutes and have refunded it. The worst problem in the PS4 version is that you don't have the option to turn down the volume of music etc. It is just TO LOUD. Srsly I've written a review about the same issue in Star Ocean 3 Remaster where it was the same problem and what does SE do? The same stupid thing again. Srlsly this is just an horrible fail of the legendary FF8. Even some parts in the PS1 version looks better than this blurry mess.

    Do not buy this game. It should have been a DLC not a fully new game. Only better Character graphics and all the rest is even worse.

    Also not to forget the game is even CENSORED. Yes you read it correctly, SE has censored the game. Siren has been censored but not the GF Card itself.

    Oh and not to forget about cheat system they have put in to the game. If you want to cheat like you have done on your ps1 then forget about it. If you want to earn achievements, then you wont be able to get them as soon as you start cheating. Only 3x speed are ok to use but everything else will disable your achievements. Yeah it is a single player game sure but what ever, I have purchased the game and I want to do with the game what ever I want to just like in the stone age times where you even could purchase cheating CD's. I just write this cheating thingy for people who likes to cheat in their games. I would only use the 3x game speed boost and it would be more than enough for me just to play the game in tripple speed but it might be good to know for people who would like to use more than only 3x speed.

    PS: Just get the 2013 version and mod it, it'll look much much better than this mess and it's even free. The words about modder being the real devs become more and more true.    … Expand

    This looks god awful. I know they lost the original source code for the game but really they couldnt have an artist to draw new back grounds?This looks god awful. I mean this is just a remaster but activision darth sidius of the gaming industry literally remade and not just remastered spyro. Why cant square do that. It wouldnt have been that expense even if they just remade parts of ff8. Fans literally have done better jobs with mods and we should applaud them more than this garbage that squarw has fartes out. Any modders reading this i just want to say you guys are amazing. To the square devs i feel your shame but the people to blame are your managers not you.… Expand
