    This looks god awful. I know they lost the original source code for the game but really they couldnt have an artist to draw new back grounds? Remodelled the assets? I mean this is just a remaster but activision darth sidius of the gaming industry literally remade and not just remastered spyro. Why cant square do that. It wouldnt have been that expense even if they just remade parts of ff8.This looks god awful.     absolutely a joke, there are graphics mods that do better than this remastered, what were they thinking when they release this horrible so-called "remaster"

    Having played the game for like 10 hours and helped others how to fix the black bars resolution problem, things started to go down hill pretty fast. At first i thought i was in the clear and pretty much enjoying myself, when suddenly "unexpected exception" errors occurred causing the game to crash to desktop. Usually it helps to reload but only 10 minutes further in the game will crashHaving played the game for like 10 hours and helped others how to fix the black bars resolution problem, things started to go down hill pretty fast. At first i thought i was in the clear and pretty much enjoying myself, when suddenly "unexpected exception" errors occurred causing the game to crash to desktop. Usually it helps to reload but only 10 minutes further in the game will crash again, and again.. For those wondering how to remove the black bars. Just set the ingame resolution to >1280x960< instead of 1920x1080 and above..
    So, i had to thumb it down on Steam afterwards which pretty sucks being a long time gamer and fan of the series.
    Hopefully someone (if not Square Enix) will be able to patch where most needed, because playing the game in this state is just not worth it for me personally.. A shame really...    … Expand

    Bad port and a garbage game title. Gameplay is atrocious (especially with the keyboard) the environments look blurry and the character GUI is poorly designed. Only good about this game are the characters but in general this is an awful RPG attempt. What a waste of money

    худший ремастер, что я когда-либо видел. подтянули 3д-модельки в игре... в которой 95% визуала состоит из нарисованных задников и назвали это ремастером. мда. что ж, подтянутые модельки выглядят шикарно на мыльных древних задниках, ага...
    а еще русского языка нет. почему японские девелоперы так не любят делать русскую локализацию?    худший ремастер, что я когда-либо видел. подтянули 3д-модельки в игре... в которой 95% визуала состоит из нарисованных задников и назвали это ремастером. мда. что ж, подтянутые модельки выглядят шикарно на мыльных древних задниках, ага...

    Creo que Final Fantasy 8 fue el primer juego que me pase de niño y ni que decir tiene que es mi favorito, me duele mucho ver como a día de hoy lo han prostituido tan barato con un Port lamentable como si un artista contemporáneo puliera su obras con un cubo de eces.

    I love Final Fantasy 8 and ofcourse I was silliy enough to pre-order this game for PC and PS4. This game is a joke and not a remaster. It is the worst Remaster I have ever played. Yes the character looks upgraded but all the rest is downgraded graphicaly. Everything is so blurry that it hurts my eyes to play the game. I have tested it around 20 minutes and have refunded it. The worst problem in the PS4 version is that you don't have the option to turn down the volume of music etc. It is just TO LOUD. Srsly I've written a review about the same issue in Star Ocean 3 Remaster where it was the same problem and what does SE do? The same stupid thing again. Srlsly this is just an horrible fail of the legendary FF8. Even some parts in the PS1 version looks better than this blurry mess.

    Do not buy this game. It should have been a DLC not a fully new game. Only better Character graphics and all the rest is even worse.

    Also not to forget the game is even CENSORED. Yes you read it correctly, SE has censored the game. Siren has been censored but not the GF Card itself.

    Oh and not to forget about cheat system they have put in to the game. If you want to cheat like you have done on your ps1 then forget about it. If you want to earn achievements, then you wont be able to get them as soon as you start cheating. Only 3x speed are ok to use but everything else will disable your achievements. Yeah it is a single player game sure but what ever, I have purchased the game and I want to do with the game what ever I want to just like in the stone age times where you even could purchase cheating CD's. I just write this cheating thingy for people who likes to cheat in their games. I would only use the 3x game speed boost and it would be more than enough for me just to play the game in tripple speed but it might be good to know for people who would like to use more than only 3x speed.

    PS: Just get the 2013 version and mod it, it'll look much much better than this mess and it's even free. The words about modder being the real devs become more and more true.    … Expand

Then, when I got to the first save point, out of curiosity, I checked out some YouTube footage and- my GOD. Square is so awful at making ports. This runs at about 20-25fps at the lowest resolution on hardware that runs modern games at medium settings no problem. The    Shockingly horrible port

The pre-rendered backgrounds haven't been upscaled at all, instead just lazily blurred. At the same time, the game runs at about 70% speed, making it pretty much unplayable even as an FF8 virgin like me. Control is 8-directional only, no analog at all-... and this is after a Win10 update broke the game WAAAAY back in May 2020, I can't imagine how horribly that version runs. Also, this is the only game I've ever seen that requires you to alt+F4 to close it. There's no option in-game to actually exit. The best part is that this is the ONLY game I've ever seen on Game Pass that users can't post a review for, SE KNOWS how much it sucks, which is why I'm reviewing it here. How do you screw up this bad?
    Even if you have Game Pass, don't waste your time on the tiny download, literally any other release of the game is superior based on my own research, and don't even THINK about actually spending money on this and supporting god-awful ports like this.    … Expand

    The story has a lot of potential and unfortunately it was not used to create a remake.
    The battle system of its predecessor FF 7 (original one) is much better.
    FF VIII "Remastered" is on the low-end of the FF Franchise.

    The game has some issues, but it is still a high-quality title for all JRPG fans. The remaster would deserve much more care, but its base works and it doesn’t make things unnecessarily difficult for you. [Issue#299]

    Final Fantasy 8 did not age well, and I would not recommend it as an introduction into JRPGs, but it does offer an interesting introspective at the history of this genre. Unfortunately, the remaster is quite shoddy, and there is no better official version than this.

    This remaster hits a few major points when it comes to refreshing an old game. But blurry, upscaled backgrounds and a missed opportunity to go from 4:3 to 16:9 aspect ratio, leave much to desire here. Yet, it is still as great game as it ever was. It's just easier to see it, this time around.
