Okay, it's not a Fallout from the past, but it is a Fallout...an other.

I was surprised though as the game world pulled me in and kept me there for hours on end. This game has something really special to it that I've never had in a game before, and it's one of a special few that I can play over and over again without getting bored. I've given it an 8 purely for that factor. If you think that this kind of game is not suited to you, then you likely won't see any appeal whatsoever. Expand

Playing since the beta, I can confirm most of the critic received was deserved (though being honest, seeing the "Most Helpful" critic on this website by Gorveth, 90% of that was provably wrong or incorrect, but the game did have its flaws during the Beta and early launch)

While I do agree Game Companies should release full working games, it was the first time they were trying for an online multiplayer game, on a genre that wasnt done before, so kudos for them for still sticking to the game even after the deserved backlash
(Also, why do people make a point by saying "hurr but the canvas/muh bottle" if it isnt related to the gameplay? The canvas alone I do agree was a reason to boycott it but throwing it around like it matters on the gameplay is stupid)

It has been 7 months or so since the release, and I am happy with the way the game has come along.

    Neutral points:
-Story that isnt only told by "robots", focused more on exploration. Some people might not like that, they might want the story not shouted at you by robots, but by "NPCs" (which are AI, anyway, by the way)

    - They are adding NPCs in upcoming Expansions.

    - There is a Battle Royale which is entirely optional, but you get cosmetics, level and money for your character on Adventure mode (The "basic" mode)

-Multiplayer: This can be either good or bad, not only depending on your views but because Players are different, some might help you and some might try and grief you (There are lots of system to prevent griefing though, so don't expect anyone blowing your stuff)

    Pros:
-Huge exploration oriented. Game tells mini story in almost every room of every mark points (and even on unmarked places)

-CAMP building is pretty neat, access for creative players to show their work to other players. Or create amazing death traps. Which are fun, by the way.

-Lots of Event quests (which some people mistook for repeatable quests)
These EVENTS are happening in many places of the map. These are random "quests" on some areas that grant you things to do, rewards, and fun! (For example, there are events where you can manually repair a nuclear power plant; extract uranium ores while defending from waves of monsters; Act like an angry biker group drinking, playing music loudly and drinking booze to summon a [REDACTED])

-WORKSHOPS are public "camps" you can capture and modify to your liking. They all have some kind of unique specialty to them. For example, the Power Plants are all workshops too, there's a structure in each that you can power up to generate Fusion Cores (for your power armor and some weapons). And since you're in a Power Plant, there are some Electric Boxes that count as Generators and provide energy for you! And more power if the Power Plant is repaired.
I also like giving the example of the ammo factory workshop, the closest Power Plant also provides energy on an Electric Box there for you to use, so even if you don't own the Power Plant workshop, you might want to repair it anyway! (Along with the rewards for completing an event)

-The music selection. Running away from monsters while listening to "Flight of the Bumblebee" never gets old.

-Most of the player base is actually very helpful, creative, and fun all around. But as I said on "neutral point", this is a random factor sometimes.

    -Bugs are actually being fixed!

-Future expansions are free for players.

-There are more points, but I'm affraid more would be spoiling some of the experience.

    Cons:
Not going to get into the disaster that was beta but:

-Server stability is still problematic. I rarely get disconnects but my friends sometimes do, and it can happen on the worst of situations

-End game still feels lacking (Bound to change with the new upcoming Expansion, but so far it feels bland)

    -Bugs are still a reality.

-Though they did manage to fix some unfixable engine problems (the unlocked FPS problems for example, among a few others actually), the engine feels outdated, it is something they could try working on.

-Bad popularity. Friends laughing at you playing a game hurt sometimes :(

Overall: As a huge Fallout fanboy (2 is my favorite, and while I do agree New Vegas had the most Fallout feel of the 3D ones, I kinda disliked it) This game feels like Fallout 4 online. And being honest, it is hard to imagine it any different, it is a take on a good way. Still needs polishing, but if the price is accessible enough, I suggest getting it and give it a try, and understand why reading reviews is risky.

I’ll be honest here. The beginning of this game was awful. The lag, bugs crashing, all of it got to me at a point and I had dropped the game. Before dropping it, I had around 40 or so hours. The game itself was fun, when it dis what it was supposed to. When I dropped it, I didn’t drop it just because I didn’t find it fun, but rather for it to be updated and come back at a later date.

So, here we are now. I got back on once NW was released. I wasn’t super hyped for it, simply because I don’t like BR games that much. But this BR was different for me. It was actually fun! I put another 20 or so hours into this in the span of a day and half. It’s really fun to play, the people are not dicks and it actually feels possible to play.

One of my main gripes with Fo76 adventure mode before I dropped was the constant hit detection delay. I would shoot and NPC and it would take about 1 second for it to register. That has been fixed from what I tell and all the other bugs I’ve had issues with have been fixed.

The hearing of the new wastelanders update has really gotten me. That was the main turnpoint of me coming back to Fo76. I’m extremely excited for it to drop. It look like there will be a map expansion mabye, NPCs are coming back, new guns and armor, vault raids etc etc... It just looks so fun an I cant wait for it!

After putting another 40 or so hours into this game, I can safely say that this game is good now. The bugs that were really annoying were fixed, the new mode is fun, and the new DLC looks especially promising.

There is so much to do, and if you’re able to play with a friend it makes it that much better! NPCs will be here soon, so that should only increase the value. I didnt have as many issues as others did during the launch, next to none, and im still experiencing next to no issues & my main problems with the game was some of the limitations which has later been fixed. The game still has some server instabillity issues here and there, but overall my playtime has been very enjoyable.

The game at its current moment is not worth the 60$ price tag due to the rocky start & the few (but still there) server instabillities. But if this is reliably fixed or the game goes on sale for under 40$ i would recomend giving it a try.

It plays perfectly on my P.C, 20 hours in and not a bug/glitch or crash.
The graphics are slightly dated and the combat similiar to older games but the introduction of N.P.C's has really made this game into a true fallout experience.

I am so happy that Bethesda didn't just bin this game and that they stayed true to their word in the end.

This game for me is about on par with F04.

The story is pretty interesting and deep, yet you aren't forced to listen to NPCs drag on about things for hours on end. Usually a holotape gets you on your way, which is cool if you don't want to stop the pacing. Another great feature is the C.A.M.P. You can store your items in this totally customize-able area in your stash, build a home or cabin and defend it from outside enemies. You can also open it to the players or lock your doors if you wish.

Fallout 76 is also amazingly beautiful. For all the extra space they put into this game, I enjoy the vistas between event locations love to build my C.A.M.P. around the wilderness. Though sometimes the trips can be a little long, I think its worth it and makes the game feel a lot more realistic. There are some locations on the map that are done so well, it almost feels like you're there. The White Springs Resort (aka the Grianbrier in WV) is an absolute gem and full of fun times.

I enjoy the crafting, though sometimes the stash gets too full and you have to unload items once and a while. Usually I opt for scrapping weapons and armor for crafting skills and extra parts.

There are many other things I'd like to mention in Fallout 76 to praise, but I'd just urge you to play it before reading any more reviews.

The Fallout series has made the leap online with Fallout 76 and it is an ambitious attempt to take the franchise in a new direction. Set as a resident of Vault 76; players will craft a character and be amongst the first to venture into the Post-Apocalyptic world set in the Virginia wilderness as they attempt to help rebuild a new society.

Along the way players will encounter all manner of mutated creatures and threats that have zero qualms about tearing a player to pieces or bringing an arsenal of weapons to take down players.
Anyone who has played any of the series will know that gathering, trading, and crafting is essential to survival as being able to buy, repair, and exchange weapons and armor is essential as they will break and need to be upgraded frequently.

This is always a trick for some players such as myself as I never know what to fully prioritize when I encounter scrap and can quickly become overburdened. This makes for some very tough choices as player movement will be very restricted and players will be unable to Fast Travel to previously explored areas of the map.

There is also the matter of needing to ensure that an adequate supply of food, beverages, and medicines are available to restore health as in a radiated area; even stopping for lunch can cause potential damage and mutations to happen.

There are numerous weapons available to players from crude Pipe Guns to more advanced energy weapons and machine guns and knives. I have found that Melee weapons such as an Axe or a Sledgehammer can do wonders as they do pack a solid punch but are slow and unyielding.
The map is extremely vast and filled with many areas to explore from old towns to hotels, shops, a mall, an airport, train stations, and pretty much anything else you would expect in a typical community.

One of the biggest issues in the game is the numerous bugs which hampered the game at launch. Bethesda has worked to fix them through several patches but issues still remain as I write this so players will have to understand that this is part of the game and being addressed but they will likely encounter issues along the way.

The game has taken a considerable amount of abuse for the state of the game at launch and while I freely admit there are issues; I have had a lot of fun playing the game and have logged a considerable amount of time in it. Despite the frustrations; I have been drawn back to the game time and again to play more. Players I have encountered have been generally helpful and friendly and the game has not become an open Free For All as the Bounty systems in place make it less appealing for players to pick off inexperienced players who are out minding their own business. Some higher-level players have been very generous in passing and have initiated trades to give me High-Level weapons even though I was not able to use them until I reached a higher level.

There are various Pop-Up events that happen where players can get some nice rewards and slipping into your Power Armor to take down a pack of Scorchers is always a fun experience.

In many ways this is one of the hardest reviews I have had to write as I can see how some people can be disappointed with the game and will take serious issues with the bugs and general direction. I also see the fun in the game and the progress being made with the updates and enjoy the game despite the issues. If you are patient and temper your expectations with the understanding that the game players have now is not the game they will have several months down the road, then Fallout 76 may be the escapist game you are looking for.

After the annoucement I was sceptic, but after seeing B.E.T.A. myself I was surprised. Fallout 76 is not empty, it's full of little stories and big quests, you just need to find them.

The game is not perfect and currently I would say "just for fans", if Bethesda fixes the issues the community requested during B.E.T.A. (stash, dof) I'm pretty sure it will be able to find new fans.

The game is flawed but far from the 'cash grab', 'dumpster fire' or 'unplayable mess' many make it out to be. Any offline Fallout title would be much less of a strategical risk for Bethesda as opposed to trying something completely new that can fail horrible, as it just might.

Bethesda's biggest mistake in attempting an online multiplayer game of this scope might have been picking the universe of Fallout. The title implies this might be a Fallout story and dialogue driven RPG, yet it is anything but that. This is not a traditional Fallout game in any way or form. There are some NPCs in the form of robots but they are few and far between. There is no dialogue, no choices to be made and no consequence of action - all staples of all Fallout games before this one.

That being said, the game behind the Fallout front it is actually quite enjoyable. Contrary to many stories the performance is pretty solid across the board and framerates are higher than Fallout 4 while offering much more detail in draw distance and small details. '

Bugs have become a staple of any Bethesda game and I have to say it was a lot better than I expected. During the beta there were some glaring issues with the game speeding up on my 240hz screen but they fixed this before release - although they capped it to 60fps now, creating a whole new issue with disgruntled PC players. One bugged quest is the only real bug I encountered beyond that, though there are supposedly quite a few quests that cannot be completed at this time.

There is a large amount of content to be found. The map is by far the largest in any modern Bethesda game (starting from Morrowind, that is) and the environmental storytelling - terminals, holotaps, notes, etc - is up to par with what we have seen from Bethesda in previous titles. There is a huge amount of stories to be found in this world. A lot of quests tie into this and though some of them feel like hollow fetch quests, there are plenty that actually immerse and interest the player in the underlying story.

I do wonder what target audience Bethesda had with this game. Most traditional Fallout fans are definitely not among them, which is for a large part the cause of the public outcry against this game. The game at time leaves you wondering - 'What exactly is this'? - to quote Bethesda themselves. It is unique in its style - but maybe it's unique because hardly anyone actually wants this. By its marketing, it almost seems they wanted to target the Fortnite audience with this game but I can hardly see the average Fortnite player playing Falllout 76, which is pretty slow-paced and non-competitive in comparison.

Personally, I had a lot of fun with the many beta hours and the first day of gameplay. It plays a lot like Fallout 4 in terms of combat and building and the multiplayer side of the game can be mostly ignored if you want. The added benefit of strolling the wastes with a friend or partner is great but the events and PvP hardly add anything solid to the game.

I would recommend this game to players who have no great affinity with storiytelling in games and like to play casual shooters or building games with friends. For any Fallout fan who wants dialogue, story, and consequence of action - this game is not for them. But the many 0 reviews on this page will say enough about that.

When Bethesda brought elder scrolls to the online world, I didn't care for it- it was too MMO and not enough elder scrolls. Unfortunately, it is plagued with bugs, particularly Vsync/gsync issues, crashes, and other nonsense. It really breaks you from the experience, which is a shame. The good news is, this game could run on a potato, using the same engine as skyrim and it shows. The bad news is the graphics for the most part are just blah. The in game settings are minimal and changing the display to borderless to full screen requires a restart of the game. Annoying, because you might have to adjust that to fix vsync issues.

My only other minor complaint is that since this is all online, you can never pause. When you are crafting or in your pip boy, magically enemies will appear out of nowhere and you'll take damage. It's very annoying. Also, the carrying/weight needs to be balanced. Carrying too much? No problem! Store it in your stash. But you can't fast travel there since you are overweight! Ok then, set up your camp where you are. Great! But that has a limit on storage, too. Sigh.

This game is very rough around the edges, and needs some work. If you are on the fence to check it out, I would wait a month or so. It's still worth playing if you enjoy the fallout series.

There are known exploits for leveling up that haven't been patched and that's really a big turn off in a multiplayer online game. Other than the bugs and exploits however, it's great. It feels like a fallout world, exploring and discovering new areas and piecing together the little stories is cool and interesting. The choice to use holotapes and notes to tell the story rather than characters isn't as terrible as I originally thought it would be, though the story does feel more like you are following just behind a protagonist rather than being the protagonist - you're always finding out what happened rather than being instrumental in those happenings. The Enemy AI seems fairly simplistic and isn't helped by a laggy server experience. Having other players around is a great addition to the fallout world, and grouping up and running about is entertaining. End game feels a bit lacklustre - launching nukes and farming the resulting high level mobs is great the first few times, but then once you have a few cool high level legendary weapons, what to do next?

Base building is unfortunatley completely broken. The idea you can pick up your base as a blueprint and then plonk it down somewhere else would be great .. if it worked. It's a bit of a crapshoo as to wether all your base pieces will still exist, and it can be very difficult to get the game to let you actually place your base down again without complaining about the terrain or some other issue.

Balance is another problem. Weapon balance is completely jumbled up for both PvE and PvP content.

Overall, I'm having fun __but. It desperately needs bugfixes (sooo many bugs, like unbelievable numbers of mechanics bugs - not gamebreaking, but still...) and balance changes.

Fallout 76 is really hard to review as it's an entirely new type of game that unfortunately can't appeal to the primitive minds that give it bad reviews for all the wrong reasons.

If you are looking for your regular Fallout/Elder Scrolls quest grind - don't buy this game, at all.
Though it has Fallout in the title and the mechanics are pretty much the same as Fallout 3 onwards, you simply won't get the same experience as you are used to.

What the game can offer however is handing you a massive world to explore with the classic Fallout charm and humour surrounding it.
Now let that sink in and I'll give you a glimpse on what's good, what's bad, and what's really ugly about Fallout 76.

    QUESTS
Though it really falls short on meaningful quests at first glance, taking your time getting to know people's stories in quests, notes and holotapes is very rewarding.
The main quest starts rather simple with: hey, go there and find person X - which is dead already. You find some note, move on to the next person along the trail which is also dead, and everyone is dead. Bottom line - the only humans still alive are you and the other dwellers from Vault 76.
So there's no human NPCs - period.

The main quest is a rather well written introduction into the mechanics and as it progresses you will get some side missions along the way and eventually learn more about what happened in the past few years.
Until you reach a point where you get another main quest that forces you to run across the map for really dumb objectives before it gets interesting again. Awful time flller - afaic there's absolutely no excuse for it other than wasting people's time.
I'm still stuck with that mission so I can't tell if it gets way better from there but I instead went for some exploration on my own.

I ran around A LOT so far and though you get hints that something happens here and there there's simply no quest yet to follow.
For instance - I ran into a camp that is shaking with a holotape about a customer complaint from when before the bombs fell. I hear a scream in the distance - I can't find anything when I try to follow the source of the scream.
You'll get that a lot as you explore at your own pace. The more you see, the more you will feel like the map is an empty shell that may or may not be filled later on.

And that's all I can say about that.

    BASE BUILDING
Now if you are interested in that part I hate to tell you that it suffers from some really horrible compromises that need to be there for it to function, but it absolutely kills the potential.
On one hand you aren't always on the same "realm" - so your base persists only as long as it can be built again where you had it and nobody else built their base there now. Unlikely to happen - unless you found a site that gives "free" aluminium.

The amount of structures you can build is ridiculously limited.

The versatility and ease of just moving your C.A.M.P makes you forget about your base and you just move the base module somewhere else for a hand full of caps to drop your junk or to cook instead of finding a proper station on the map.

Bottom line - that feature can't deliver, especially when knowing something like an Epoch mod in ARMA or ARK's building capabilities. It makes sense for what Fallout 76 is but it's... meh - I wouldn't know how to fix it though.

    FOOD, WATER, SURVIVAL
I like that part - though you need some 20 litres per day instead of 2 - it's quite nice and you can see yourself getting better at it compared to from the struggles you may have had at the start.
Occasionally it may be annoying but never enough to actually be an issue.

Will lack of water/food kill you? No - you just suffer AP penalties.
Good compromise imo and as good as you can make it.

    DEATH
Has like 0 consequences... all you lose is scrap - I haven't reached a point yet where I had such good scrap that losing it may be annoying. And even if that were the case, when you die you can just run back to your point of death and pick it up again.

    PVP
I only read about it and I'd say it's absolutely useless. There's no base locations to be really fought over as they don't persist, all you can loot is scrap.... useless

    EVENTS
More annoying than useful - as soon as you are in an Event area the quest for it gets activated and sometimes the event itself - even though you didn't sign up for it. You just happen to be there for another quest and suddenly you get swarmed by mobs. Idiotic implementation.
And - no serverwide chat or group finder to actually do a shoutout and say: hey guys, wanna do that event? At least to my avail.

BOTTOM LINE Don't buy this game if you expect a regular Fallout experience. Read up on it, watch videos, check if it's something for you. I for myself enjoy it as I like to just run around exploring and having some content is a welcome change compared to other titles in that genre.

Bethesda released Fallout 76 full of bugs as money grabs, and damage so much their reputation that they stopped investing in Fallout franchise.
Nonetheless Fallout 76 is worth playing as solo player. It reminds of Fallout 4 but with a significant bigger map.
Many bugs and patches, left the game terribly unbalanced to play with others. I'll skip the MMO part.

You don't really get a sense of progression because you already know the NPCs related to that quest are dead and that your efforts won't affect the world.

Hopefully they will add some interactive NPCs in the future, even it's just robots that you can actually talk to (as opposed to just being talked at by). They promised future gameplay modes, so maybe they can add a co-op story-mode expansion (a sort of mix between Borderlands and Fallout 4) that takes us to another region of America, such as Pennsylvania, where we can encounter human NPCs that were out of reach of the Scorched plague.

Everyone's complaining about the bugs and the graphics, but personally I've not encountered any bugs except for the odd crash, as for the graphics, they're fine, people need to stop being such snobs about graphics in games.

I could easily give it even higher note, yet technical problems and the fact that game was released in this state is what truly deserve a backlash (not the lore, not the fact that this ins't an rpg). Bugs, glitches, sometimes very frustrating, could make angry even a saint and some other problems and weirdnesses (building system was butchered, and pvp system makes no sens) makes me believe that not everything was thought through as it should be.
What bethesda did excellent in f76 is enviromental storytelling at it best... similiar to what we could find in f4 but on a bigger scale.
Saying all that, i hope they will fix the game and not abandon it because of all those angry kids all over the internet - since f76 deserve a better state than what it is now. Hoping for updates, and some sense among people overall. What could be fixed also is the price, because game is not worth in its current state as much as it cost.

Let's get some things clear first: This game is buggy, buggy as hell BUT it's also the most fun experience I've had on my own and with my friends in the last 5 years of gaming.

It might not be the perfect game people want it to be but it has a lot of potential!

World size is better than Fallout 4, but quests are fair and i feel no "fallout". There is no friendly NPCs, so world looks empty. World activities (events) are strange and looks like "fifth dog leg". I still hope that DLC and patches will change situation

First off this is nothing we already didn't know. Second Vault 76 is one of the first Vaults opened, so we as the player are some of the first people surfacing after the Great War this is why there are no NPC b/c there are is no one else out yet. We are meant to find out what has happened in the aftermath of the Great War. Now I would love to see NPCs added into the game and I think this could be done with little effort. Think what if a new Vault opened up and you had to help the people of that Vault create a settlement which will turn into a social hub, think the tower in Desinty.

    Quick hits:

    Pros:
The world - Fallout 76 has a huge world with something new around every corner
    Base building
The loot - the loot is great I love the blueprints
    Crafting
Level / Perks - This is a perfect system for this style of game. They just need to make to so you have re-roll your S.P.E.C.A.I and maybe add on endgame leveling system, think ESO online maybe???
    Multiplayer
Enemies - a good divers raid on enemy types.
Nukes - it's a cool way to create a harder zone

    Cons:
This game needed an upgraded / new engine
Lunch bugs - this feels like an earlier access game.
    Quests need to be better
    Gunplay needs to be updated.

Despite a few bugs (haven't encountered anything game breaking), this game manages to provide a bitter, bleak look into life after the bombs, with a whole new apocalypse to be wrangled into holding back. Grab a friend and your trusty hunting rifle as you explore a massive West Virginia landscape and uncover the mysteries Appalachia has to give.

Again, that's graphics at the minimum level, pushed down as simple as they can go. Not breathtaking, but not horrible by any means, and, let's face it, you aren't going to be buying this game so that you can watch the leaves fall from the trees.

Story: The story so far has been bare-bones. Yes, the world feels very empty, unlike previous Fallout games, where you have a bunch of settlers and raiders all over the place. That isn't necessarily a bad thing. The world we are seeing is the direct aftermath of the Great War, rather than a world that has had 200 years to build anew. At the same time, there have been numerous minor story-lines I've run across that flesh out the world of people who were alive not two decades before I was there. People that my character was likely contemporaries with. It can be immersive if you aren't expecting to be spoon-fed entertainment.

Multiplayer: So far, this has not been a major issue with me. I had people help me out as I was leaving the vault, and I've turned around and done the same. I've cooperated to help clear missions, and I've wandered off on my own, avoiding anyone for fairly long stretches. As severs get more crowded, that may get more difficult, but this is not your typical MMO at the moment, where you have to deal with a dozen other players behind every corner. It is entirely possible to have a single player experience without interacting with other players. The one drawback is how many Challenge Missions require group participation, but that is only if you care about collecting Atoms. It isn't required for the main story.

Stash Limit: The big complaint everyone's heads are exploding about. Which... is not actually an issue. Yes, you can only hold a limited amount in your stash at a time. People claim that this penalizes looting, but it really doesn't. Heck, I can run faster while over-encumbered in this game than I could in any previous Fallout Game, without any special perks helping me do so, and I can do it for far longer than I'd expect otherwise. Even when slowed down to just walking, I still move at a good speed, and at worst, I can just spend a bit to summon my Camp to my location and end up looting to my heart's content. No, what is penalized in this game is hording. Stockpiling up a bunch of resources for a rainy day and not using them. People complain about not being able to build, when really the issue is that they can't horde supplies until they can build a mega-fortress. You are encouraged to use your supplies, because you will have to end up getting more, but that isn't overly difficult or impossible.

There are flaws, definitely. I've had bugs when going into menus and I ended up getting hit with several server drops and game freezes, which is why this is a mixed review rather than a positive one, but this is very much not a 0-star game. And I think it would be very telling to see which reviewers have actually bought and played the game, and which are basing their review off of let's play videos and other second-hand sources.

The lack of human npc can sometimes be strange but i do not think it is something that is that bad. Even in other games the best stories told are the ones told through the environment and notes.

+ Due to the small player count and small, far away spawns It feels very immersive for an online game (I'm a roleplayer).
+ Was pretty stable for a new online title (one crash in 10+ hours on PC)
+ I like that it is an MMO and not a CO-OP. I like pick-up random groups and the chance to meet other random scavengers in ruins.
+ I like the open world base building. Have build some useful and fun things for new players close to the starter area.
+ If the shop will really only be for cosmetics and the DLC will really be free like they have promised, it will become good value for money in time.
+ The group area events are some of the most fun and original ones I have seen in MMOs.
+ I think they have found the perfect balance of survival elements. It's not a chore, but you have to keep it in mind and it might be punishing if you forget about it.
+ I'm not sure if like the perk card system, but it seems smart for on online game. It would be a bad idea in a single player game, but most online games introduce the option to respec your character, so a more flexible system build up from ground up seems sensible.

    - - The game is optimized poorly
    - - The AI is simply horrible. I would be happy with the poor AI from Fallout 4, but they obviously had to change something. And it's very buggy.
    - - No text chat, and the emotes are horrible.
    - Too much reused assets. I've played F4 for like 500+ hours and am really fed up with using the same pipe guns and revolvers.
    - It's the same with monsters. Yes, there are a lot of new ones, but it feels low effort , as I'm still bashing the same ghouls, molerats, and mutt dogs.
    - I hate the UI (like in 90% games that are developed for both consoles and PC)
    - The system for tracking quests in a team is a mess.
    - It feels like the gear progression is wrong for an online game. Games like this are supposed to keep people playing for hundreds of hours and players in F76 already have the high grade power armors with enough fusion cores to run them for a long long time.

+/- If Bethesda isn't lying, they will try to introduce "private" moddable servers in a year after sorting out all the core issues. This might change the game a lot (or it might be a useless mess).

All in all... I don't want it to change, I like most of the unique core concepts. I just want it to get much better at what it tries to do. And a better game overall in all the technical areas it fails now.

I agree with a lot of the criticisms, I consider Fallout 76 fair to good, and I rate it 6/10 to 7/10 (I rounded up) — but that's coming from a player whose absolute favorite games are Fallout 3, NV & 4. For me to be saying "fair" to "good" or be rating it a 6/10 to 7/10 is the equivalent of a less franchise-loyal gamer rating it 3/10 or 4/10.

I have played something like 6 to 8 hours so far and just reached level 10. I was concerned I was truly going to find myself bored, but I've been managing to enjoy myself reasonably well. The moment I discovered the first robot to trade with, I was able to earn enough caps by selling loot to use the fast travel and base camp relocation abilities, which are key to making exploration and questing less of a slog. I have felt the tingle of excitement upon encountering a new area, getting quests — especially if there's a voiced robotic NPC quest giver, which is honestly just as good as a voiced human NPC quest giver in my opinion — and hunting down the various enemies while trying to achieve my goals. While the absence of raiders and mercs is quite noticeable, what's really missing are the neutral to friendly NPC communities. Take a place like Covenant in Fallout 4. You meet them, they test you, they tentatively accept you and you suspect there's something amiss with the town. There is a number of ways to proceed, and the choices you make result in significant differences as to how this side-story plays out. So far, it seems Fallout 76 will not and cannot offer players experiences like that.

The bottom line for me is that Fallout 76 feels like a stand-alone DLC with a simple premise: Bethesda will set you up with a very large play area as a sandbox to play in, 80%-90% legacy world lore from the other games in the franchise, player survival mechanics and enough basic, repeatable quests to motivate you to continue. As a committed lone player, it does in fact get quite lonely and spare, but if I were paying $20-$25 for this privilege, rather than the $60 I paid, I would say it is definitely worth the experience.

Taken on its own, the game is not bad. It could be better, there are bugs but they're pretty minor. The lack of NPC humans, both friendly and not, is a glaring omission and makes the game feel a little lifeless. Some of the mechanisms you liked from the Fallout 3, 4 and New Vegas are missing due to the MMO aspect.

    However...

It captures the Fallout feel, the gameplay is close to identical and rewards careful play rather than run and gun. Yes, combat is clunky but then again it always has been. It doesn't make it bad, just different. You have to be more careful and cautious which some may find dull in comparison to pure FPS like COD but then maybe this game isn't for them.

All in all, F76 is best viewed as a cutdown version of Fallout 4 that can be played with a group of your friends. If you're playing it solo then you will be disappointed. As a group it doesn't exactly shine but it's a solid co-op experience and I'm enjoying it. I think this is one to be worked on and to improve rather than be dumped.

The good news is that it's more of Fallout. Quirky quests, looting, radio stations, open world exploration.

The bad news is it could have been so much better with a large world of players interacting and building and fighting. How cool if this had been Player's Unknown meets Fallout rather than Fallout with a multiplayer function that doesn't really matter.

The game is a lot of fun with friends and alone (I play both), but the main issue after 25 hours of game are the bugs and mediocre PC port. It does not really impact the game but it can be a pain.
If the bugs are corrected (which they are doing) and the future DLCs complete the experience with new quest and things to do this could be a great game. For now it is fun and enjoyable but could have been better especially technically speaking.

After sinking sixty something hours into the game, I can say it’s a good first attempt at an online multiplayer game. Yes, it still uses the Creation Engine but not the same one used for Fallout 4 or Skyrim due to the engine improvements such as all new rendering lighting and landscaping technology; that allows for sixteen times the detail, and yes you can visually see the difference between Fallout 76 and Fallout 4. Such as the glossiness on the golden strips on the Vault Suit that was not present in Fallout 4.

Now Fallout 76 isn’t the prettiest game released this year or this decade, but it is by far the prettiest Bethesda Game Studios Game released today.

Leveling Up in this game has been refined from Fallout 4’s perk chart, I especially like the fact that I can switch out my perk cards when I’m playing with my friends to allow for greater team play, however, I’m not so much of fan of the fact that your special stops increasing after reaching Level 50 but there are adding the ability allowing you to respec your characters special in latter update
    sometime after launch.

The Appalachia Wasteland is truly the biggest most diverse wasteland we’ve seen to date allowing players to capture some truly amazing screenshots. Yet due to the immense scale of the Appalachia Wasteland and lack of human NPC populating hubs, towns the world seems oddly empty but not completely empty due to the questing give robots found throughout the world such as Rose or the
other players exploring the world along with you.

The microtransactions in Fallout 76 aren’t an issue due to them literally throwing Atoms at you for playing the game and completing challenges. So what do buy with these microtransactions well it’s all cosmetic items that offer no gameplay advantages at all to the players of the game. These microtransactions are also paying for all the DLC the game will have post-launch allowing Bethesda Softworks to make all DLC free not splitting up the player base.

I myself haven’t participated in any PVP in Fallout 76 as of yet but have had some of my loot stolen.

The story isn’t the best story featured in a Bethesda Studio Game, but it isn’t too bad either. The endgame isn’t the worst nor the best but launching them nukes is pretty fun and challenging. When one is launched players have two minutes to leave the blast area, but one is fired most players come over to the edge of the blast radius to watch the nuke detonate. Don’t worry about players firing nukes every twenty minutes as Bethesda have thought about this every Tuesday the launch codes reset and need to be decrypted once again from a new word and different numbers, and players aren’t allowed to nuke the starting area.

Crafting has been reworked in Fallout 76 where players now need to find plans that allow players to build new gear giving you an edge over enemies that are just above your current level. Not only do you need to find plans you also need to find the resources to craft this new gear once you’ve learnt the plan, however, the stash limit is currently restricting my crafting progression slightly, but this issue is being addressed with an update sometime this month.

So all in all Fallout 76 isn’t a great Fallout game but is a good action-adventure game on your own but is a great action-adventure game when playing with friends.

Even so, little touches in some audio logs and notes paint a haunting picture at times, in between all the retro future camp. Speaking of camps the C.A.M.P system is flawed but fun with room to grow, letting you save several iterations of bases to plop down on most parts of the world with plans to find to unlock more items.

I also really like the trading card Perk system. Being able to swap cards in and out as needed and building a character based on what you have on hand is a pretty fresh mechanic.

The world boasts some unique places that are, in my view, a step up from Fallout 4 in terms of variety. Fleeing the new scorched enemies only to find myself on a nearly pristine green golf course guarded by military robots that provided me cover fire was one such memorable area.

I rated a 7 because, in the end, it still has the usual Bethesda bugs and engine limitations. But personally I'm getting my money's worth.

Gameplay: Lets start with the fundemental's of the game the gameplay, The game essentially feels like fallout 4 although there are some fundemental changes to the game as it is online but most animations and i would say 75% of weapons are just carried over from fallout 4, Some even keeping the bugs they had in fallout 4 (Ill get to that **** in a minute) But it is stable enough to be able to enjoy the game.

Quests/Story: Sooooo the quest line specifically the main one, feels like it was just slapped together after bethesda "finished" the game world and machanics. there is alot of back tracking in the main quest and the problem with this is not the idea of backtracking itself, its that fact that fast traveling costs caps depending on how far away you are from the target location. Now this would not be an issue but hardly any of the main quest does not give you many caps and the caps it does give you cant be spent on anything worth while from a vendor because they end up getting spent almost instantly, Now i will say the quest for the enclave (what i have played of it so far) has a decent story thats easy to follow and the backtracking is nowhere near as bad and all the quest reward you with something worth it such as a legendary tripple barrel missile launcher that has lock on abillitys. or even the ability to be able to access missile silo's too launch a nuke at any location on the map.

World: The world is MASSIVE. So big that in the over 35+ hours that ive played of the game i have yet to even venture into the far left side of the map as all these other areas keep me wanting to explore, although the exploration is a little hindered by the lack of NPC'S. While yes you can find robots and gaoul's etc most are hostile and take away from the wit and charm of the older games. and it does not help that in the game the only live humans you find are only players so you go into a town for example and any mystory as too what you will find and who you will find is taken away as in your head you know every other human that is not a player is dead. The graphical style of the world uses much more colour then even 4 does, includeing more yellows and greens with a touch of blue here and there and is a nice pleasent change to the dull looking worlds of fallout 3 and 4. Fallout 76 has alot of towns and caves and building to explore its just such a shame the design choice to remove all NPC'S from the map hinder the exploration of this big and carefullly created world.

    Heres the good stuff:
Earlier i mentioned how some of the bugs from fallout 4 carry over into 76 Well heres a long paragraph of why i think its both bad and why it happens.
The game is based of the fallout 4 engine which is known as the creation engine although as some players like myself and others in the fallout community have discovered this actually hinders the game in alot of ways, for example the game has many of the same bugs fallout 4 has, for example yesterday I found a lever action rifle, which is also a gun in fallout 4's far harbour DLC and the reload bug is in this game, for those not aware this bug is a bug that when you shoot one bullet of this gun and reload you actually do the animation for loading all 5 bullets even though you only shot one, Please keep in mind this bug was in fallout 4 and never patched....... except it was by a modder... yeah thats right a modder fixed a bug in fallout 4 bethesda didnt even fix in there next game. As "gamers" fans of fallout need to stop giving bethesda a pass when the bring out these games that have bugs left and right.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. There is a lot of backlash to Fallout 76 that is not unwarranted. The game is visually very similar to Fallout 4, utilizing the same exact models from the game frequently. Many have regarded this game as being like a multiplayer mod of Fallout 4. Others have also remarked about how the game does not feel like Fallout, and this is something I agree with, to a point.

Fallout 76 is a bright, colorful, and (somewhat) visually diverse game set in West Virginia. It is entirely online, with no options for offline play, and servers are capped at 24 players each. It brings back a core feature that had been present in Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas, that being item durability. Fallout 4's settlement building also makes a return with changes, as does Fallout 4's survival mode (albeit considerably less difficult).

Previous Fallout titles, such as Fallout: A Post Nuclear Role Playing Game, are dark, barren (stylistically so), and bleak. This continues through all games until Fallout 76, where it comes to a screeching halt. The terminals and holotapes found in Fallout 76 differ considerably from earlier titles, where people living in the areas before the bombs were revealed to be unhinged. Instead, one reads and hears many stories of people working together, making things appear generally more positive than any of the other Fallout titles. That, combined with a more colorful setup, has made people feel disconnected from Fallout 76- it simply is unlike any of the other titles.

I sincerely believe that this is not a bad thing, though. Fallout 76 has proven to still hold many of the same story elements as earlier Fallout games, sometimes to its detriment, other times to its benefit. I will begin detailing the benefit:

Players will be able to leave Vault 76 into a very large world in ruin. Throughout West Virginia, people will find the ruins of towns and structures typically filled with hostile life. Areas without hostile life are usually inhabited by robots which seem almost oblivious to the end of the world. These robots give MANY insights into pre-war America that were not always very apparent to players when going through earlier titles.

The story elements that act against Fallout 76 are quite simply the ones that it cannot seem to escape. The Enclave and the Brotherhood of Steel have a presence in this game, despite it making absolutely no sense for them to have one. They are simply there because they are names that /must/ be in a Fallout title, or else it will not seem like Fallout to people. This comes at the cost of consistency to the story. There have been many times where I've poked through terminals, and someone mentions the Brotherhood of Steel, and all I can think is, "Huh?" Essentially, Bethesda is falling victim to the same thing that Star Wars has- they cannot go beyond what they have already established.

With luck, Bethesda can be encouraged to put greater effort into Fallout 76, which does have fantastic potential and really entertaining experiences and discoveries with other players. Until then, the game is okay. It is not terrible, nor is it particularly outstanding, but it can be so much more either way- I would vastly prefer the latter.

I have not encountered many of the bugs featured in the negative reviews. I enjoy the game, but in its current state it is not what many would expect of a Fallout game with multiplayer capability.

I hope that Bethesda listens to the constructive criticism that has been posted in reviews and reacts to remedy those issues without either completely drop the title or overreacting to some of the more absurd demands. The game is flawed, but I enjoy it.

In the end the greatest fault lies with the lack of proper communication and poor judgement shown by Bethesda throughout the last 6 months. I hope a lesson is learned not only by Bethesda but also by their competitors that if you do not clearly communicate the end result will be a backlash. The lack of a clear vision resulted in multiple visions and high expectations that were not met.

You know, it is actually rather fun when you're playing with friends. Get a buddy, explore and craft together, and you might find yourself having fun.

    Good game, not great.

-Lack of NPCs, the story is telled by notes and terminals, but it's hard to read those when playing coop. -PVP got to nerfed -Buidying is very limited by the weight limit on your stash and camp size, it would be great to build a large town with some houses and vendors to sell my stuf or buy stuff for me. -Locking players on a server would be great by the reason

-Locking players on a server would be great by the reason above or for the worshops on the map that the people instead of negociating or fighting with you, people justo switch servers to get.
-AI is too dumb, please make the game more dificult by increasing the inteligence os the AI not just the enemy levels.

So far, i've playied for 36 hours, a level 17 caracter, played some coop, but most part solo, i'ts a fun game, worth buying, i'm having a lot of fun with the daily/event quests, but i miss the NPS and some settlers.

The game is flawed technically but the issues are being addressed. Don’t play on a **** PC and you should be fine. Be honest now... is your pc up to snuff? I know you THINK your PC is good... but is it? If you can get over the bugs and are happy with the knowedge that the game will be fixed, there is a lot of fun to be had. Roleplayers and immersion junkies will love this game.

It's definitely not the best game. As with every Bethesda game, it's riddled with bugs and "features". and as with any Bethesda game, I'm willing to forgive those due to the track record of Bethesda being that they do improve their product after release (let's for a moment think about how much negativity Fallout 4 received by its players on release).

A lot of people are talking nothing but bad about this game. Some of this is down to hate bandwagoning while others have legitimate criticism that I cannot in good conscience dismiss. This game is not perfect and will need (like literally every Bethesda title released on PC) work and love from Bethesda (or the modding community in the long run) to make it into a game that would make it past the incredibly high standards of modern gamers.

However, I admire it as a experiment and in the end, reviews are entirely subjective. Everyone has their own opinion. My advice would be to just try it out or watch some gameplay to judge for yourself and form your own opinion instead of reading all these (both positive and negative) and basing your opinion on that.

That being said, i've enjoyed it for what it is during my playtime. It's definitely played better with friends (as intended, most likely) and can use a good amount of polish. A decent addition to the Fallout series.

All scores 4 and below are **** Ignore them. Game is bugged to hell and has many Qol issues. With that being said, the story told via environment is well done and is compelling. Perk system is robust and flexible. Endgame is limited currently but more is on the way. Fun with friends or alone. Currently sits at 6-7 for me, but once some issues are fixed this is easily an 8+ game.

Huge fan of Fallout 3 and 4, and I went into Fallout 76 expecting it to be Fallout 4 co-op with no NPCs to talk to.

I got Fallout 4 co-op with no NPCs to talk to, nothing more or less. I wish there was more to this game, but it is what I paid for.

Although the game is not perfect, and really does have a lot of work to be done to improve it, there is definitely a hate band wagon that is affecting this game more than it should. There is a long road ahead to making Fallout 76 the game the fans want, however I have had tons of fun playing with my friends and exploring this world together. My recommendations would be to add NPCs and improve quests in all the future patches and DLCs for this game. Quests currently feel empty and unfulfilling, and quests really are the selling point of the Fallout games.
If you don't know whether or not you want this game yet, I would say unless you have some friends to play with or you are a hard core Fallout fan that wants to experience the prequel lore in this game, you should probably wait for Bethesda to make some fixes. I'm having fun, but not like I have on Fallout 3, NV and 4. In its current state, this game is not for everyone.

I would not listen to 0's or 10's, even 4 is pretty harsh. Fun game, the environments are very good, enemies are interesting, best voice acting (from holotapes) in a Bethesda game period. It is very different from the other Bethesda titles, but I don't think that's such a bad thing. It is a spinoff, after all. Fallout 76 is an okay game. By far not as good as the sp games and it has a lot of even game breaking bugs, but it's not that bad. It won't be my favourite game ever, but I like it. It can be fun while playing with friends.
But they really have to fix those annoying bugs and should really get some PR people that don't screw it up much more...

There are quite a few downsides that most people are probably aware of. The engine is old, so it can strain your PC or console. Bugs are apparent everywhere. Servers are unstable. And the worst part is the weight limit. You can max out in a single room or from 3 enemies, and your "home base" stash limit is only 400 lbs, not even twice your own carry limit. For any packrats, this is a big issue. However, I've found the game much more fun with a weight limit "glitch" so you don't have to worry about that, I just enjoy exploring the game and pick up whatever I can.

TL:DR: Exploring, atmosphere, and feelings of real danger are great. Rest of the game, ehh.

Does it feel empty? No. It's full of creatures, ghouls and things you might expect in nuked US we came to love over the years. There's also plenty of Fallout goofiness that F4 lacked. If you take time, wander around, explore, there is always something new to find.

There's also no such story driven coop game like this. Even if you don't like fallout, this might be worth checking out.

I'm giving it 7 out of 10. And that's low only cause of all the bugs.

To the marketing of Bethesda they never promised more with the E3, but on the whole the price of the title was a bit high. at the start it was closer to an early access game unfortunately. it is the biggest experiment of bethesda i hope they will not give up, then most hater would be silent.

    Moin,

Fallout 76 represents a big disappointment and the lowest point of the series so far. Riddled with bugs, repetitive and dull gameplay, nonexistent story and outdated graphics, it fails as a both multiplayer and singleplayer experience for fans and newcomers alike.

Miracles do happen once in a while and No Man’s Sky proved that sometimes it is possible to get back on your feet even after a terrible failure. Right now though Fallout 76 is botched spectacularly on so many levels that even talking about this game is a waste of time. [01/2019, p.46]

An unfinished game with bifurcated identity and in an almost dysfunctional state. It's hard to build on a bad base, that will never change. Like the war. [Issue#292]
