This game is great. MMO-lite, survival lite game with big focus on exploration and community. Try it out, you won't regret. Just because the majority gives it 0/10 doesn't mean that game reflects that score. No game I know deserves 0/10, so those morons should get ignored completely...
Think about this: If majority of people rated 0/10 to a statement that "water is wet", would that change

Think about this: If majority of people rated 0/10 to a statement that "water is wet", would that change the reality? Of course it wouldn't. People online are easily manipulated so the majority opinion cannot be always trusted. And it shouldn't be trusted in this case.

Poor marketing choices and a bugged start (even if not the slaughter they all wrote about) have undermined F76. Now it's a very good game with wonderful landscape, an interesting plot (that you have to find), great acting, funny to play and a Fallout-esque atmosphere. An online game, then under construction which is going in the right direction. TL;DR - misunderstood powergamers heaven, PvP dream thats a nightmare if you won't git gud.

    The good:
    Excellent exploration.
    Environmental storytelling of superb quality.
Obscure, vaguely described, engaging PvP mechanics, so far poorly understood by the community, makes the pro vs pro PvP excellent. Writing this from a perspective of Titanfall veteran, this is a ridiculously interesting shooter.
Regular updates and new free content.
Initially, it tried to carter to various needs within a single gamemode, raising concerns within the players (i.e. coop people unwillingly exposed to PvPers). This has been solved since by implementation of new game modes.
    Alive and rather friendly community.
If you wanted to play Stalker, Battlefield and The Sims at the same time, Fallout 76 enables that.

    The bad:
The list of bugs, while shrinking, still is few hundred positions long. Gamebreakers were all fixed tho.
RNG has too big of role in equipment gathering, and its super ineffective. The main effective way to finish your character is to use player-to-player trading.
Staple element of Fallout - influencing and shaping the world around you - has not been provided yet (06.2019). Discussed Wastelanders DLC might change that in the future.

So far spent 900 hours in game so its well worth my money. Still got **** of stuff to do, hence will most probably continue playing.

I understand why Bethesda didn't include stuff at release this is unproven tech for them. NPC's early on would've made the game unplayable crashed all servers all the time. Since the early days the game has improved on stability added tonnes of new features and has made it better and better to play. Yes it still has bugs but then so does every other game I know!

If people are still bad-talking this game, it's because they haven't played it recently or at all. If you look around though, not even one of these complaints is legitimate any more. It was easy to see the game wasn't quite perfect when it came out, but because of the online nature of the game, it is getting consistent updates, fun new quests, regular bug fixes, and a lot more things that other Bethesda titles rarely see!

Don't jump on the hate bandwagon, give it a try for yourself! I've been playing since Fallout 3, and this feels like a natural progression in the series. People are also griping about micro-transactions for some reason? I really don't get it. The currency used to buy the extra COSMETIC items can be earned very easily in game. None of it gives you a combat advantage or changes anything but the appearance of the game (There are repair kits, but this is honestly just a quality of life thing, and it won't affect a firefight at all).

If you even liked fallout 4 remotely, it's a worthwhile purchase. It has crafting, building settlements, legendary weapons, scaling mobs, and hundreds of Easter eggs that really make these games worth playing.

Playing since the beta, I can confirm most of the critic received was deserved (though being honest, seeing the "Most Helpful" critic on this website by Gorveth, 90% of that was provably wrong or incorrect, but the game did have its flaws during the Beta and early launch)

While I do agree Game Companies should release full working games, it was the first time they were trying for an online multiplayer game, on a genre that wasnt done before, so kudos for them for still sticking to the game even after the deserved backlash
(Also, why do people make a point by saying "hurr but the canvas/muh bottle" if it isnt related to the gameplay? The canvas alone I do agree was a reason to boycott it but throwing it around like it matters on the gameplay is stupid)

It has been 7 months or so since the release, and I am happy with the way the game has come along.

    Neutral points:
-Story that isnt only told by "robots", focused more on exploration. Some people might not like that, they might want the story not shouted at you by robots, but by "NPCs" (which are AI, anyway, by the way)

    - They are adding NPCs in upcoming Expansions.

    - There is a Battle Royale which is entirely optional, but you get cosmetics, level and money for your character on Adventure mode (The "basic" mode)

-Multiplayer: This can be either good or bad, not only depending on your views but because Players are different, some might help you and some might try and grief you (There are lots of system to prevent griefing though, so don't expect anyone blowing your stuff)

    Pros:
-Huge exploration oriented. Game tells mini story in almost every room of every mark points (and even on unmarked places)

-CAMP building is pretty neat, access for creative players to show their work to other players. Or create amazing death traps. Which are fun, by the way.

-Lots of Event quests (which some people mistook for repeatable quests)
These EVENTS are happening in many places of the map. These are random "quests" on some areas that grant you things to do, rewards, and fun! (For example, there are events where you can manually repair a nuclear power plant; extract uranium ores while defending from waves of monsters; Act like an angry biker group drinking, playing music loudly and drinking booze to summon a [REDACTED])

-WORKSHOPS are public "camps" you can capture and modify to your liking. They all have some kind of unique specialty to them. For example, the Power Plants are all workshops too, there's a structure in each that you can power up to generate Fusion Cores (for your power armor and some weapons). And since you're in a Power Plant, there are some Electric Boxes that count as Generators and provide energy for you! And more power if the Power Plant is repaired.
I also like giving the example of the ammo factory workshop, the closest Power Plant also provides energy on an Electric Box there for you to use, so even if you don't own the Power Plant workshop, you might want to repair it anyway! (Along with the rewards for completing an event)

-The music selection. Running away from monsters while listening to "Flight of the Bumblebee" never gets old.

-Most of the player base is actually very helpful, creative, and fun all around. But as I said on "neutral point", this is a random factor sometimes.

    -Bugs are actually being fixed!

-Future expansions are free for players.

-There are more points, but I'm affraid more would be spoiling some of the experience.

    Cons:
Not going to get into the disaster that was beta but:

-Server stability is still problematic. I rarely get disconnects but my friends sometimes do, and it can happen on the worst of situations

-End game still feels lacking (Bound to change with the new upcoming Expansion, but so far it feels bland)

    -Bugs are still a reality.

-Though they did manage to fix some unfixable engine problems (the unlocked FPS problems for example, among a few others actually), the engine feels outdated, it is something they could try working on.

-Bad popularity. Friends laughing at you playing a game hurt sometimes :(

Overall: As a huge Fallout fanboy (2 is my favorite, and while I do agree New Vegas had the most Fallout feel of the 3D ones, I kinda disliked it) This game feels like Fallout 4 online. And being honest, it is hard to imagine it any different, it is a take on a good way. Still needs polishing, but if the price is accessible enough, I suggest getting it and give it a try, and understand why reading reviews is risky.

Fallout 76 is the kind of game where you get out what you put in. The great thing is, you can put that effort into so many different options and play styles. Want to be a housebuilder? Build a house! Want to run around helping new players (as many people do)? Go for it! Now, with the addition of Battle Royale, and an upcoming new main quest featuring NPCs, is the time to check the game out!

I’ll be honest here. The beginning of this game was awful. The lag, bugs crashing, all of it got to me at a point and I had dropped the game. Before dropping it, I had around 40 or so hours. The game itself was fun, when it dis what it was supposed to. When I dropped it, I didn’t drop it just because I didn’t find it fun, but rather for it to be updated and come back at a later date.

So, here we are now. I got back on once NW was released. I wasn’t super hyped for it, simply because I don’t like BR games that much. But this BR was different for me. It was actually fun! I put another 20 or so hours into this in the span of a day and half. It’s really fun to play, the people are not dicks and it actually feels possible to play.

One of my main gripes with Fo76 adventure mode before I dropped was the constant hit detection delay. I would shoot and NPC and it would take about 1 second for it to register. That has been fixed from what I tell and all the other bugs I’ve had issues with have been fixed.

The hearing of the new wastelanders update has really gotten me. That was the main turnpoint of me coming back to Fo76. I’m extremely excited for it to drop. It look like there will be a map expansion mabye, NPCs are coming back, new guns and armor, vault raids etc etc... It just looks so fun an I cant wait for it!

After putting another 40 or so hours into this game, I can safely say that this game is good now. The bugs that were really annoying were fixed, the new mode is fun, and the new DLC looks especially promising.

The map is the best in any of the series so far, huge and pretty rich with different biomes, you will find yourself walking from a pretty forest to a mutated swamp.

The story of the game is narrated through holotapes of the people that are already dead (you will find new npc's in the next season with the waste landers free update) since you come here from the vault 25 years later, a lot has happened and there is a new plague on the region, that is the main quest and story so far.

I player throught a lot of bugs since the day 1 so i can say that the game is really playable and despite people thrashing the game it's actually pretty ok, i encourage you to give it a chance now if you have nothing to play, also it's pretty cheap.

Many of the reviewers never actually played the game, re-using limited video that just showed bugs to provide a skewed review. The actual game is fun! It has an expansive world to explore and discover the story behind all the factions and what happened to the human populace of Virginia due to the Scorched plague. There are so many character options, build options and crafting options you will be hard pressed to run out of things to do. With the addition of Nuclear Winter a new exciting (even if I'm not a fan of PVP) mode was recently introduced giving infinite playable time with the mode. CAMP construction and design is amazing and continues to evolve. The game adventure mode is completely grief free, and the community is the friendliest group of people I've ever encountered online. You can bop over to a Survival mode if you want additional PVP, though I avoid it as I don't enjoy that style. Future content is even going to include human NPCs (non human NPCs have been in game since day 1 though people have lied to you about that) in the Wastelander expansion, and will include dialogue trees that will have significant impact and be dependent upon your SPECIAL points.

Lastly, like said from day one after you've bought the game you get ALL future content for free. At a price of only $20-30 now there's no excuse for not hopping into the apocalypse and having fun. You never need to buy Atomic shop content, but if you do it's only non game affecting items, just cosmetic skins and toys for the CAMP.

Maybe they have? The game crashed once during my few hours with it, but that's something that Fallout 4 and Skyrim still do from time to time, long after official support has ended. I just don't know what's supposed to drive the player experience. There are no characters. The only story is one giant fetch quest. The game actively punished me for exploring how mechanics work before the story had drip fed me how to use them. There were meters that ticked down, and resting restores health *very* slowly, maybe 1% per second.

The end result was that this was a game that seemed to be all about busywork. I don't need that. I have a day job. I'm not really interested in spending 2% of my gaming time for the day watching my character sleep.

Bethesda have been releasing new updates at a steady pase, adding multiple new questlines, more events and a survival gamemode for the people who wanted to fight other players without restricitions. They've announced they'll be adding human NPCs to the game and that they're going to give us a good old Fallout main-storyline. Right now the main questline might not be that interesting, but I still highly recommend giving the game a try, especially since you can find it pretty cheap in most places. The community is one of the best ones I've seen, and are extremely kind to new players. Then there's also Nuclear Winter, which I personally was pretty sceptical about. But I must say I've enjoyed it alot, from the teamwork, to the stability in NW to the fact you can launch nukes during the match. So, in conclusion, Fallout 76 is alot better now. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game is simply amazingly beautiful, it is incredibly well designed. There are many reviews from people that simply do not enjoy Fallout 76. I am well of those people that not only enjoy Fallout 76 but absolutely love it.

When I play, I'm transported in time, all the NPCs are dead and I feel seriously alone. It's a dreadful feeling but somehow a beautiful feeling. What remains of this bomb shattered world are the monsters that remain, the confused robots and other players trying to murder you. It's a work of art. The NPCs are dead, long ago! Bombs, mutants and disease wiped them out. All that's left is the residents of all the vaults that are scavenging around trying to kill each other.

As for bugs, crashes, bad UI, fetch missions it's nonsense, all a load of nonsense conjured up by hardcore previous Fallout gamers. Well, I haven't played the previous Fallout games and I hate it when people expect a game to be more or less like the previous game before it.

I'm level 25, the quests that I've encountered has sent me half way across the map to cook up some moonshine that resorted in my trying to find a hidden entrance and battling terrifying giant scorpions trying to chop me in half.

There is no story, you make your own story. Read the diaries, notes and terminals of those left behind. They will reveal treasure or send you on grand adventures. Befriend a robot and find out what happened to a missing boy taken from a water park (I ended up being in the tunnel of a dam being eaten by a horde radroaches!)

I've seriously not encountered any bugs of any kind, I do get the occasional lag spikes that last for a second. Sometimes the monsters do get a bit glitchy but that's it.

As for base building, armor creation/weapon creation & modification. Never in my life have a played such a game that allows a player to customize their items so much. I found a rifle when I was level 5, it had a wooden stock and it looked awful. Now I'm level 25 and it has a Recon scope, a long barrel and an epic looking stock! It's my favorite weapon and I'll keep it forever. (You get attached to your gear)

Seriously, stop reading the reviews, this isn't a game riddled with bugs, fetch missions, micro-transactions and it seriously isn't dull. Get the game, enjoy it and play it. Hate the haters, this game is the best!

This will be sort of late review, but I want to give my two cents. I have of course seen the YouTube videos, like "The Fall of 76", which more deals with the aspects outside the actual game, and the videos going through the bugs and so forth. But here I will give my opinion on gameplay, immersion and general thoughts.

I preordered the game, tried the BETA (which left me confused), and then played it the day it came out (more or less, think I was on a bender so it might have been a few days after). I think my expectations were still aligned towards something like Fallout 4, even though I knew the difference, and I dropped it and left it until last week.

I decided to go into it with a clear mind, and just take it as it is. I love the lore and love the world. Although I have not played 1 and 2 (was more of a Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale guy back then, and don't enjoy pure turn-based combat), I have enjoyed 3, NV and 4 many, many times.

And I like it. I like it a lot.

There are issues, of course. There is a fast-travel point with a Snappycaster that does not move, my Daily events seem to be 0/5 all the time no matter how many I do, Blueprints budget is small (this was a missunderstanding of my part though, I don't dare to move my nice house), it is easy to step into events right at the end, and reap the benefits. And of course the normal Bethesda **** in terms of bugs.

That aside, the environment is so nice to roam. Especially the forest areas. The quests are not as repeatable as a thought. I have only played a bit if WoW around 2006 and SWTOR around 2012 so I am not an expert on these kind of games though.

Crafting system is right up my alley. Slowly building your base, collecting plans, scavenging and taking over Gorge junkyard now and then (hey, only level 21 so far).

I hated the C.A.M.P. system at first before I got the hang of it. Now I know that I need to keep building size down to blueprint properly, and looking forward to creating my new camp in a more village-like style. A crafting barn, living quarters, scavenging equipment and so on. However, for now I live at Morgantown Station.

The Perk-system. I had some trouble in the beginning, but catched up, finally got Gun-nut to five stars yesterday so my guns do not break ALL THE TIME!!! Also, I have created sort of a plan for level up for the next 25 levels or so, did it kind of randomly before.

Yesterday was also the first time I played with a friend. We talked over TeamSpeak and I helped him out through his first levels. Very nice indeed. He built a small base close to mine and we had a good time overall.

So, when I put aside any dreams of Fallout 5 or whatever I really wanted, and see this as part of the lore and the Fallout world and as an individual game that tries something new I am very happy I gave it another chance.

Fallout 76 is exactly what it said it would be. A multiplayer fallout experience without human NPCs.

I have played for 300 hours, with friends and solo. If you are looking to play this game at this point here is my take on this game:

I felt like the majority of people writing overly negative reviews haven't actually played the game, and instead review bombed it because it's not the next single player RPG experience. It's a Fallout Universe map to explore with stories and content. It was released as a complete story with a story arc you follow throughout your game play, if you follow main stories. There is plenty to do and explore with friends as you complete the story to make the content of this game fully complete in a multiplayer context. The lack of NPCs is part of the story ARC and one of the first things you have to rectify so that you can keep existing in Appalachia. I actually really enjoy the real time implementation of VATS.

    The bad:
    - It's buggy, but I've never had a Bethesda game not be released with bugs TBH.
    - If you want this game for PVP, don't. Play a game meant for PVP and developed with PVP as a basis for the game. PVP in Fallout 76 is mostly an afterthought and player builds can be min/maxed to be nearly invulnerable to casual players. It's just not fun.
    - You need to suspend disbelief to enjoy the story. After finding a note left on a desk of a broken house that didn't blow away in 20 years I laughed. I mean holo tapes left all around on underground desks or workstations, ok. A note on a house in the open?
    - There were glaring bugs that led me to believe that the game was not thoroughly tested or played by the development team themselves.

Overall I enjoyed my time. Realistically I'd rate my experience as an 8 out of 10 because I had a good group to play with but the actual game is more like a 7 so I will put that as my review. If you enjoy exploring the Fallout Universe like I do, you'll likely still enjoy this game. In the end, all quests in Fallout have always been [choose to complete quest, or ignore] regardless of how many stat check options you were given.

I wrote a favorable review for this early on, but I was being hopeful. The game is on the brink of death because of the developers being lazy and greedy. This game was no where near finished when they pushed it to release. They cut out any story even just to get it out by christmas. it was riddled with exploits and glitches, and it's on their recycled engine that is over 10 years old. At release fallout 4 mods worked on it, which shows it was literally fallout 4 recycled. Instead of attempting to fix the glitches the developer began to ban huge portions of the player base and refusing to take responsibility for releasing an unfinished game. They began pinning the players against one another causing loads of toxicity in the community by blaming those who use game exploits for stability issues and more. Even if this game ever had a future or ever could have been good, I don't care. I will never buy another bethesda game again, and I own all the fallout games, and several other Bethesda titles, but after how they have conducted business here you can count me out, you have lost a loyal customer. although this game was not at all impressive upon release, it has improved drastically and I'm looking forward to future updates such as the legendary vendor, I'm writing this on the 14/5/2019 so its had time to improve. I believe this was also their first multiplayer game but its still not an excuse. in conclusion I still think this game is pretty fun and is worth half its price, its not perfect but its fresh and its improving, that's just my opinion and I have met many cool people on servers who love the game too, although don't get it for 100 bucks, still a decent game though. One of the worst games I ever played in 3 decades. Its pretty much a scam. Only good thing I got out of it was the helmet from the collectors edition (lets forget about the nylon bag).

Bethesda games always had issues, but the modders had you backing Bethesda! Your games are popular because there are so many mods, to fix bugs, add content and make the games look good. Now this travesty you released cannot be saved by anyone. You have tried to cash in on the goose that lays golden eggs, by killing the goose

I could easily give it even higher note, yet technical problems and the fact that game was released in this state is what truly deserve a backlash (not the lore, not the fact that this ins't an rpg). Bugs, glitches, sometimes very frustrating, could make angry even a saint and some other problems and weirdnesses (building system was butchered, and pvp system makes no sens) makes me believe that not everything was thought through as it should be.
What bethesda did excellent in f76 is enviromental storytelling at it best... similiar to what we could find in f4 but on a bigger scale.
Saying all that, i hope they will fix the game and not abandon it because of all those angry kids all over the internet - since f76 deserve a better state than what it is now. Hoping for updates, and some sense among people overall. What could be fixed also is the price, because game is not worth in its current state as much as it cost.

i just started playing this game after i upgraded my laptop. There were a bunch of difficulties even getting this game to load. Since then I can say I really am enjoying the game and have switched to fallout 76 over cs go as my go to for gaming on pc.

In the communicty I have gotten help from several stronger players by adding friends and fast traveling to these random people and asking questions and or for help with certain things like how to eat drink and get ammo.

I saw one guy destroying another players camp for resources but overall have found the community to be really caring, even more so than in the real world.

I think bethesda's vision of a bunch of survivors trying to make it after the fallout really succeeded.

I do wish there was a way they could do maintenance and server stuff on only a portion of the servers at a time so it would not have outages in the game, because as of now I am writing this review while waiting for them to finish server maintenance so i can play again.

For what it's worth I would give it a 7 mainly because of all the problems trying to get into the game, but once it's loaded due to the help of the community, i feel i can get strong enough to give back and be a blessing to others while enjoying this current fallout game.

    God bless you,

Everyone's saying it's "getting better" and Bethesda is "fixing things," but honestly FO76 has A LOT more improving to do before it can even be tolerable.

Fallout 76 represents a big disappointment and the lowest point of the series so far. Riddled with bugs, repetitive and dull gameplay, nonexistent story and outdated graphics, it fails as a both multiplayer and singleplayer experience for fans and newcomers alike.

Miracles do happen once in a while and No Man’s Sky proved that sometimes it is possible to get back on your feet even after a terrible failure. Right now though Fallout 76 is botched spectacularly on so many levels that even talking about this game is a waste of time. [01/2019, p.46]

An unfinished game with bifurcated identity and in an almost dysfunctional state. It's hard to build on a bad base, that will never change. Like the war. [Issue#292]
