Fallout 76 is a sad and pitiful act. Much like the source from whence it came. I feel nothing but sadness now, seeing once beloved Bethesda so tragically twisted by greed and blinded by arrogance.
Fallout 76 lacks any redeeming technical and narrative merit. In the history of games in general, and its developer in particular, Fallout 76 is like one of those `after shots` of meth addicts.

No story, boring quests, bad performance, bad graphics, bad PVP system and many bugs. Worst Fallout game ever. Please don´t buy it.

Every update Bethesda would try to entice players to spend more money in their atom shop for cosmetic skins and game objects but, with all of the bugs and bad business; nobody was lining up to pay more for a game that barely worked.
In response to player willingness to make purchases in the Atom shop and out of pure greed, Bethesda removed the ability to repair your weapon etc. at a workbench and began charging players for item repair kits. This is bait and switch marketing. it is a low down dirty way to take advantage of customers who have already invested money and time into a version of the game that was sold with entirely different mechanics. Personally I will never buy another Bethesda game again for such shady backhanded business practices. I didn't even get into all the people they ripped off with shoddy merchandise.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Fallout 76 took over my life. Besides bugs, glitches and weekly disconnects, this game has alot to do even after level 50 and main quest line completion.
I highly pushing your way to level 50 before you decide not to play. Stay rested, eat some cranberry and you will soar through levels in less than 24 hours game time.

I repeat don't spend your money in this kind of trash, and if you own it hoping it will get better wake yourself; Bethesda is now like EA or Activision, they just want your money and don't even care about the game itself.

    Povitive Points:

-future implementation of Push2Talk and hopefully a chat for pc
-nice workshoplocations and nice (but partially misleading) goodies like the verdiebot (i thought you can travel with it, but you cant)
-performanceimproovements in contrary to fallout 4 and you can look much further than before
-relatively low required performance (except processor [CPU])
-you can use the powerarmor without a fusioncore ... but it has a very annoing continous alarm sound that can not be stopped
-contrary to many people here: The landscape looks manificent even though it is limited through the engine
-The cameramode and the personal loading screens are a real highlight
-The atmospheric sound like the weather etc has quite improoved in quallity
    -improoved buildingmenu
-Big map, like really big but i personally cant imagine that it is 4x the size of fallout 4's map [this is subjective!]
-i think the nuke system is a realy cool idea that hasnt been there before.
-the implementation of the local lore is realy good and they dont overuse these enemys ingame
-nice to be able to change the character any time
-the free Beta Codes were realy kind!

    Negative Points:
-in 24 hour gameplay more than 3 hours sorting items out after i wasted and just throw away many items i was still overloadet with barely anything on me (this is nearly gamebreaking)
-I simply ignore minor graphic bugs, but questbreaking bugs are realy anoing (this is literraly gamebreaking)
-in most areas the workshop build and stash limit is way like really way to low and has to be much higher
-Weapons break too fast even with perks that should counter it
-The Pipboy needs a seperation between food and meds/chems and additionall options to better sort items like for itemweight and complete collective weight of an item e.g.: 1 stimpack ways 1kg then the collective weight of 75 collected stimpacks in my inventory way 75kg. It should be able to sort them this way
-The buildmenu for the pc needs better controls and not just z and c keys.
-has possibilty to see if you allready know a recipe or buildingplan when buing them from a vendor of wich there are only a few on the map
-the game looks good but somewhat too similiar to Fallout 4
-some seemingly interesting places like the spacestation are just plain empty from story or any kind of life what so ever. There are not even notes (beside for the one door for the space suits) or holotapes or even many new enemys
-the charactermenu has much to less options for customisation.I would prefer more like the hair etc. options like in the Sims or equivalents.
-on some points the game reminds me of No Mans Sky or Mass Effect Andromeda: They were not finnished on release
-Please dont destroy the lore. There has to be some kind of consistence over time and when i see the reason of the supermutants or the BoS this makes me thinking, if this was the right decision (even though Iam a realy big fan of the Brotherhood)

    Conclusion:
All in all this game reminds me on other big titles like GTA 5 or No Mans Sky. They booth had their flaws at the beginning and were even very empty but and this is where i think Fallout 76 will lead: Besides their flaws that can be corrected, it can and it partially is now a game that is entertaining alone or in groups and it will certainly be better.

P.S.: One part is still worring me a little bit: The private servers in the relatively far future seem only be hostable by bethesda themselves and lets see where the Atom Points are heading

    EDIT:
They **** up hard. Fallout 1st and other stuff behind a paywall after shattering the game with broken promises

Neverending flow of bugs that keep returning. After a hopeful period in the first half of 2019, it shows that ultimately Bethesda's promises are false, they do not populate the game with sufficient new content, they introduce P2W mechanisms and have their players for a cashcow without actually fixing the game first. There are way better alternatives around. Stay away from this!

The Fallout games are highly regarded as key player in the RPG genre with strong narratives, quests and world building across a post apocalyptic wasteland where you have to scrounge to survive its inhabitants. Sadly it falls far short of what is acceptable as a AAA launched game.

Fallouts gunplay has never been it's strong point, it's always been the narrative so when players began to populate Fallout 76 they began to understand this. No NPCs (Non playable Characters) apart from the various wasteland monsters of West Virginia made the game feel tainted and empty. Quests and side quests are handed out from robotic means such as computer terminals or tape decks and some of these quests would be teasing you to find someone, anyone and the sad part is you already knew they were never going to be there. The main quest is a stick and carrot experience and down right insulting to anyone who came into the fray looking for a story.

Assets and terrains have been completely ripped out of Fallout 4, many models looking ugly and low textured. Structures that are dull, lonely and uninteresting. Granted it is supposed to be post apocalyptic but it doesn't excuse terribly modelled buildings that could be whipped up in a few hours making the rounds from past Fallout games.

Technically speaking the game is a disaster. Bethesda clings on to the Creation Engine which is dated and flawed and it shows. Bugs are frequent both Physical and Graphical. Despite the game looking as poor as it does it still struggles with performance no matter which platform you are playing.

Although this is an online game, do not expect social interaction to come easily. Fallout is a chore when it comes to playing with friends you will have to rely to third party means of communication.

Over time pay to win features have been slowly creeping into the Micro-transactions for the few players still suffering the game.

If you would like a game that would overall disappoint and confuse you, by all means purchase this game. If you are on the verge of buying it, please consider your options. it's 2019 and innovative games are coming thick and fast.

Also there is an issue of too high level mobs in low level areas, like a level 10 ghoul attacked me when i was level 3, and a level 45 glowing snallygaster guarded the quest things i needed to retrieve (I was level 16 btw). My favourite part has to be the building. You got a decent ammount of choice for free stuff (trust me, a lot of cool stuff is locked behind a paywall). It wouldnt be that much of an issue, but they started adding utility objects. The Personal Terminal and the Punch bowl are free, but the better ones, collectatron which collects free junk at a relatevely decent pace (Slower than a workshop harvester), and a fridge in which you can put food items to make them decay slower, are locked behind the atom paywall.
Building is well done, but with so much content locked in the atomic shop, and the miniscule budget that does not really allow you to make anything relatively big along with a very small building area, it is not that great.
The world is very well designed, with a lot of intresting locations, but the problem is that it feels empty. They are atleast working on a new mode, where npc will be a thing. For now you got a bunch of clones of diffirent robots. You got Merchants, and Mr.Handies. While there are a few more that dont really matter.

The Story is just a bunch of notes and holotapes, which i dont bother to read or listen to.

Unlike in fallout 4, you dont have all the plans for weapons, buildings, you gotta unlcock them, but certain weapons still need perks to be crafted. The problem is that the plan item itself does not warn you of that. This is a problem for vendors, because weapon plans are pretty expensive cap-wise, so you could buy a plan that you learn, only to realise you cant craft it because you need a perk.
While i could mention the bugs, i think you heard enough of em alredy.

They provide no fun like they would in previous fallout games. The combat issues of fighting enemies that completely move past you through your character. The weapon levels being high as when you find em. The fact that everything breaks fast, even with the perks they still break fast. Theyve also added a battle royale to which they will put more emphasis and importance to it, meaning more concetration on that game mode then into the base game itself. The fact that it is in survival 24/7. Where you cant chose to get off of that. Where is they made adventure for mainly pvp. -Some mechanics are interesting, like dropping nukes for high level rewards, that it's fun the first 3 times...
-Some events like sheepsquatch are interesting.

This game sucks in many many ways. I start:
-Graphics are bad for today standards, i really don`t care about it, but i understand the people that complains about graphics. A lot of assets are reused from fallout 4.
-Animations: well, animations are embarrasing. I mean, they look really janky. Every animation in game, like in Fallout 4, and they have not corrected it. It`s 2018 bethesda, graphics aren't going to improve a lot, but animations can improve. You had one job, and the result is pitiful. Also the collision in all bethesda games it's...well a bit terrible saying it lightly
-Gameplay: well... Gameplay is boring. At least solo, i don´t know how it is to play with friends. gunplay feels janky too. A cover system could been pretty good, but no... And the new V.A,T.S is the most jankyest thing of all game, feels horrible to use it, the real time change destroyed totally it, now is a janky amibot that misses a lot unless you take a vats oriented character.
-History: is bad, very very bad. I can`t describe it with other words. Terminals? Robots? Really? You scrapped the best thing of Fallout, the word, the characters, the stories theytell you, their progress.
I discover myself doind missions in this game and do no knowing what the heck i'm supposed to do because i refused to listen to MORE F**KING holotapes, or reading the notes. That's just boring, and i hate it, Bioshock is a good example of this, but WELL DONE.
-Servers: lag, enemies T-posing and teleporting, players teleporting too, disconnects...i suffered almost all of this and is unacceptable. EDIT: with new updates almost gone, all of it.

Summary: worst fallout game, janky, unexistant history, bad servers... could be fun with friends, but my friends aren`t going to buy this...

EDIT: with the last updates the game is a lot better in terms of stability and bugs. But it's core problem, the lack of npcs and souless story hits it hard. Played a bit again to discover new content and dropped it again fast, the new content (Battle Royale? Serously?! XD) was too little.
Now i give it a 5, because it's an average survival game, but a terrible Fallout game.

Is there a story? Yes. Does the environment change AT ALL as you play through the "story" and experience it? Not at all. The beauty of past Fallout games was that every action you made as you progressed had a consequence in the world. When you made a critical mission decision, you would hear about it on the radio a few hours of gameplay later, relationships in the world would change, and you would feel like you were molding the beautiful virtual worlds as you spent your time exploring them. They were wonderfully immersive games. Even when the gameplay was cluttered by base building and junk hauling in Fallout 4, those base themes/mechanics were still present and very well done... This game is not a game for Fallout fans. It is a game for MMORPG players who want a change of scenery like a Fallout setting. I put in the time to make sure I wasn't missing the point, and the game hasn't been played again since. If you are an MMORPG fan, there are a lot of games that will serve you better than this one. Games that aren't trying to please both the loyal Fallout fans and be an MMORPG.

TL;DR: From the anti-intuitive keybindings, over loss of progress due to bad game design decisions, over menu design from the times of text adventures, to visual effects like shadows and lighting as well as an AI that were better in Half-Life 2 from 15 years ago, it seems Bethesda wanted to re-invent the wheel at every turn. And when they decided to borrow ideas from other actual MMOs (F76 is not an MMO), they took the worst possible way to solve problems they themselves created.

After the first hour ingame, I already want to punch the persons responsible for these horribe - and as my friend so fittingly put it, anti-intuitive - key bindings. Why does "Tab" sometimes bring up a menu, and close others, and is sometimes used to "accept" or "confirm" things, when at other times I have to "accept" or "use" something by pressing "E", or "Return", or clicking with my mouse, which can also be used to skip videos, but then again, this only works on some videos and others must be cancelled or skipped with "T".

Weapon and armor balance is all over the place. This works in a single player game, but seriously Bethesda, hire someone who can explain to you why your "damage resistance" model does not work when you want to have competitive weapons with different attack speeds.

While perfecting the appearance of a new character, the menus again are horribly designed. The whole instruction panel on the bottom, telling me what keys have what function, would land me 10k+ upvotes on r/CrappyDesign. There is a message ingame, after creating a character, that tells us we can go back to customizing our characters later on, I like that. But why don't you tell us in the very same way that we need to leave the vault to save our character in the first place. No, let's just delete your progress without any confirmation.

The whole combat system is clunky at best. The quests beyond the story consist of barely more than kill and collect. And the actual story is delivered via text terminals; I don't need a 3D video game to play a text adventure.

Lastly, I want to put the designers back to UX lession 1. Never, ever lose user input. And if the program is about to delete user input, ask the user first, or provide some way to undo that action.

I did play the free trial week and tried to find any trace of enjoyment. The two points are not for the game as it is now, but for the idea of what it could be, if Bethesda took it offline, reworked design decisions, licensed an engine that can actually handle what they want to accomplish, and re-released a new version two years later.

I have been playing for about 5 months for usually multiple hours per day several times per week, and really enjoying my time in Appalachia. The game has improved substantially, and is finally about what it should have been at launch. I would have given it a 8 out of 10 but it still has issues with network latency sensitivity and is prone to server disconnects during times of server stress.
Others have already summarized what the game is about, so I’ll just a few of my thoughts here:
Stories are told through holotape and notes, not your typical NPC interactions of previous series titles. Some of the robots have interesting personalities, but it you crave humanoid NPC interactions this may not be the game for you. Bethesda has announced NPCs are coming with a future Wastelanders update.

It’s open world, learn as you go. No handholding, only basic tutorial quests.
    The community is generally positive.
Since the games has changed for the better since launch, I would ignore any reviews posted prior to about 3 months ago.

I typically pick up a game and play only it for a time before moving on, so I cannot compare it to other RPG MMOs except Elder Scrolls Online. I’m a big fan of ESO and played it exclusively for three years prior to picking up this game. ESO also has significantly improved since launch and hopefully Fallout 76 will continue to get better and better.

TLDR better than it was, still has bugs, pick it up cheap or wait for free weekend to try it out.

7 months of debilitating struggle to participate in one of the few things I am able to attempt to be mentally/physically successful in activities that remediate/recover lost abilities due to mental illness. Video games are just a hobby. I was failing before F76, but I was actively trying. I was even enjoying my CBT/CRT (Cognitive Behavioral/Remediation Therapy) of playing video games for fun, and working on them to learn how to create video game software.

F76 was such a blatant disregard for anti-consumer practices that 7 months later I'm struggling to even participate in video games, game design, or game development. This product was a asset flip cash grab scam, rip off, and a poorly made product while doing that. F76 started a garbage fire that burned all the way back to Morrowind, and continues to burn into the future for at least 11 years.

I bought it because I wanted a new Fallout world to explore and I had heard the game could be done solo which was important to me because I don't usually have someone to team with. The game world itself is great. There's a huge variety of places to explore and enemies to fight. There is lore hidden everywhere. Back in November there were really only two large quests, the main quest and a side quest which was not enough. There were also a bunch of events, recurring misc quests, and daily quests (probably two dozen of all of these but they trigger randomly per server so you only ever see about 5 at any given time). It was easy to miss a lot of content if you weren't really looking for it. With the updates since November they've added a few good side quests and a lot of new events/recurring/daily quests (probably double the amount or more). They also added two other game modes other than adventure. There's now a dedicated pvp and battle royale mode which are both pretty good (or easily ignorable if they're not your thing).

The biggest improvement they've done though is update the vendor and trading systems. NPC vendors share a cap pool, so no more wasting time going from vendor to vendor because of their 200 cap limit. You can now sell 1400 caps worth to one vendor. They also added a legendary gear vendor where you can scrap and buy legendary gear.

Better than that, they added player loadable vending machines where players can sell anything they find or make. It's brought a huge amount of life to the game because you are constantly meeting other players and getting to see what great (or not great) things they built with the building system. There are also some great role players out there in the community and overall (on PC at least) the community is very friendly.

They've done pretty well keeping microtransactions from ruining the game as the only things you can buy that aren't obtainable easily in game are cosmetic stuff. They have repair kits you can buy but you can get better ones (they repair more) for free from high level enemies and overall the repair kits are fairly pointless because workbenches repair everything to a higher condition level for free.

They've also been pretty good about continually patching out bugs every week or two (but as with every previous falliout game they never get them all and always seem to add a new one for every dozen they fix).

There are still issues with some basic (not game breaking) bugs with challenges and certain random things that they haven't patched for no apparent reason. There are still some weapons notably explosives) that aren't balanced properly and are too weak. They also tend to make new content difficult to find as if it's a continual easter egg hunt. New side missions are generally on the bulletin board at a train station but they like to put a lot of other stuff (looking at you, scout badges) in weird places like on the bottom of the world challenge lists in the pause menu where nobody would look.

I've put several thousand hours combined into previous Fallout titles and so far have a little over 500 hours into this one and with the continual improvements and added content I don't expect to run out of things to do. Despite the flaws and the rocky start I now hold the game in the same high regard as the previous Fallout titles.

Albeit a rocky launch, Fallout 76 has been making strides to correct bugs and update the game with QoL features. The performance is still a little iffy, even on decent PC's but tweaking settings and such can get it to run pretty smoothly. So far I've been enjoying my time exploring and questing, just like I had in New Vegas or the Capital Wasteland.

A different Fallout, doesn't mean a bad Fallout, nor a bad game :
Some elements from Fallout 4 are present, but reworked to be less complicated or restricted (the survival aspect for example). The crafting part however is a bit tricky, as you don't have a clear value for them (is this mod better than another one ?).

The world feels empty and alive at the same time : the post-apocalyptic vibe is here but stories are here and there, monsters (now more various thanks to a better bestiary) blend nicely with their environment. Haven't visited all the regions (3/5), but they are really distinctive and well designed, with their own theme. The weather effects are nice, but aren't visually impactful enough (had a radstorm that lasted 5 minutes).
Then comes the story, which is linked to the "no human NPC"-thing(/drama). And it's good. It bring this "thing" in the post-apocalyptic vibe. Quests/stories are different, sure, but "they work", Moreover, it makes the few NPC you meet, or holotapes you read, important. You're happy to see or hear someone. You want to know them, you -want to- care more for them.
Sure, it take away the impact you have, and for that, it's not perfect. There are some other "problem", like the stash/carry limitation, but they're not so much of problem, than a way of playing (don't hoard everything. Choose what to take and what to keep. Choose which weapon you use and which you can't. It's part of the survival aspect of the game.

Overall, it's a good game. Didn't had any real bug, nor problem, though some people might really have. It's something different, something not everyone might enjoy. But it does not deserve the hate it receives. I've played more than 24h, and I really enjoyed every bit of it.

Playing with a group it took about 10-15 hours before the game got tolerable. At the stage where we were no longer having to worry about resources to micromanage the survival system, around Level 25-30, the game started to open up and give us more options.
We had more caps to trade with players, more resources to sell at our camps, and were starting to be happier with the visual appearance options we had.
It's worth saying that the game is still incredibly mediocre in its current state. The quests are barren and mostly unmemorable, the performance isn't amazing and the servers have disconnect issues regularly. There's a lot to explore in Appalachia, but not really a lot to do beyond sight seeing.
With that realization my group struck on making our own fun: Roleplay is where this game shines.

Arguably more than any previous Fallout game, 76 allows you complete character freedom. You're no longer the protagonist, you're one of many to emerge from Vault 76 and your path is yours to decide. With no real draw from the main quests and little offered tasks beyond chasing levels and loot, our attention was quickly drawn towards the camp system.
If you liked settlement building in Fallout 4, you'll like it here; infact I like it *more* in 76, it feels more personal and rewarding considering that it can be visited by your friends and other players. With the camps being more limited in size than Fallout 4's settlements, they feel strangely more inviting as you spend more time there.

My group picked up the roleplay path of traders. We made our camps together, made characters and had hours of fun greeting players like we were the NPC's and they were the protagonists. We provided a friendly area for new players to visit right on the path from the start of the game, and after a week of making our own stories for once, we walked away from 76 with not only a positive outlook, but a desire to purchase the game and keep playing.

That said... We made our own fun. From a Roleplay stand point the game is fantastic, I just wish it offered more features on this front and really built to that strength. Fallout 76 is a confusing game, it seems to want to offer the traditional Fallout experience, but doesn't go far enough with the features it needs to make that experience. Meanwhile where it excels, in its multiplayer character opportunities, it also doesn't go far enough to really flesh out those systems and make the game a truly unique positive entry in the Fallout series.

All round, if you enjoy sandbox freedom and you enjoy roleplaying, you'll likely enjoy playing, just make sure you've got a group going in as not a lot of players use voice chat, and text chat currently isn't implemented.
If you enjoy the single player experience, that's still there in 76, but it's incredibly limited by the game's current roster of content.

6/10 - A creatively liberating, yet shallow experience. Lots of potential, but needs further fleshing out.

sure there are still some bugs and the main story isn't finished, but the side quests and events are a lot of fun and make me come back for more. with the new updates, quests, game modes, and features this game is not the same as it launched.

With the introduction of Human NPCs and dialog trees, makes me excited to see how the game is going to change in the fall. INB4 people complain saying that they should have had them in the beginning, but the way the main story is, it would have not worked out.

76 has been a blast and more fun than Fallout 4 was.

Ever since Fallout 76 came out in November 2018, the game has made leaps and bounds in both adding new features as well as improving and polishing its already existing functionality. While its release was certainly a buggy sight to behold, this is not nearly the case as of recently.

BGS has been providing consistent updates to the game since its release, bringing several well-needed fixes and quality-of-life changes, while still being able to provide new story lines, features, and game-modes.

There is still a way to go in some areas, especially in the Beta preview of the Nuclear Winter game-mode, the game shows an immense amount of promise and will easily provide a wealth of content and fun to any Fallout fan, casual and hardcore alike.

While some do not agree with the multiplayer aspect of the game, this part generally only serves to enhance your experience as you can typically opt to explore the vast environment of Appalachia alone, while still reaping the benefit of multiplayer events, having other players team up with you to fight big foes.

Additionally, with the Wastelanders update in Autumn 2019 bringing NPCs back into the mix, with full dialogue trees and "true choice and consequences" it's a good time to pick this game up and give it your own go and evaluation. You'll likely be positively surprised with what you find.

Overall a 9/10. An excellent game that provides a wealth of content and, while still a little rough around some edges, is definitely worth it now compared to its release.

    *Lies, lies and more lies.
*P2W items being implemented within the atom store, they promised nothing but cosmetics within the atom store, now there are repair kits and soon, who knows what else.
*Servers for the game are terrible ... lag is a rampant thing as is high ping.

I didnt have as many issues as others did during the launch, next to none, and im still experiencing next to no issues & my main problems with the game was some of the limitations which has later been fixed. The game still has some server instabillity issues here and there, but overall my playtime has been very enjoyable.

The game at its current moment is not worth the 60$ price tag due to the rocky start & the few (but still there) server instabillities. But if this is reliably fixed or the game goes on sale for under 40$ i would recomend giving it a try.
