After they finish developing the game we might be able to play it for real. It's all bugs. Constantly. In between bugs it's just boring. This is just insulting. How stupid do they think gamers are?

    Great idea, terrible execution.
This is what many people has asked for sadly it took yet another step away from the roots. removing the life from the game.

And ofc the endless amount of bugs and issues this game has had/has.

Immediately after starting, everything just feels off. Graphically, it runs on the exact same engine as Fallout 4, character creation is identical to what it was 3 years ago down to the same hairstyles and facial hair.

A large part of what made Fallout interesting is absent in 76, that is the ability to loot damn-near every container around you. You start in a vault surrounded by desks and lockers but you're unable to search them, whereas in the previous games you were able to pull all kinds of junk out of them if you so desired. It's a minor point, but it goes a long way in making the world feel even more barren and empty than it already does. Once you get out in the world you can search containers, but only some of them, as opposed to the other games where you can root around in anything that is physically capable of holding something.

On the topic of loot, it is the only thing that makes this game even worth glancing at, and even then it doesn't excuse the lack of content and the $60 price tag even less so. In my experience, shortly after leaving the vault, I came across a house surrounded by Scorched (the new placeholder enemy. They look like ghouls and attack like raiders, while being less interesting than both). I fought them off with relative ease, taking very little damage despite getting completely wailed on by several enemies, and proceeded to loot no less than 3 pipe revolvers and 3 hunting rifles off the same corpse. At least in the other games the loot you gathered kind of made sense. If a raider was shooting you with a hunting rifle, upon killing him, you could pick up that rifle most of the time, not 3 copies of a gun you didn't see him use once. This is all to say the loot in 76 is very limp and, for lack of a better way to put it, not worth looting. This is to say nothing of the level requirements needed to use the stronger weapons, which, in Fallout, is nothing short of sinful.

The biggest issue, I think, with Fallout 76 is the lack of something very critical to the other games: NPCs. Bethesda's aim with 76 was to make player interactions happen with other players and not NPCs, but the problem then arises that they're unable to make complex storylines and quests because of this. Every quest in 76 boils down to "run to the waypoint, do this/kill this/get this" and you're done. Rinse and repeat until you get bored.
The NPCs make the world come alive, and their absence is what makes 76 feel so damn dead.

The building is also cumbersome and a general pain in the ass. The player doesn't really have much of a goal to work towards past "kill this thing, loot it, stare longingly at the shiny new gun you can't use yet." The leveling is also excruciatingly castrated, now opting to use a card system of all things, because people like cards I suppose?? Any perks you do apply to your character feel as limp and worthless as everything else in the game.

The only reason I gave this game a 1 and not a 0 is because functionally, it works. You walk. You run. You jump. You shoot things. But for a game in a series as big and successful as Fallout to simply "just work" is a massive step down. It feels like a skeleton framework for something that was originally going to be much better with much more content, and without the heavy emphasis on multiplayer, maybe we could have gotten something like that, but now we'll never know.

Ultimately, if you get anything out of my review, let it be this: Don't buy this game. Bethesda has no business charging $60 (and upwards of $200 for the power armor edition) for what equates to a **** Fallout 4 mod. I feel obscenely ripped off and have already contacted Bethesda to request a refund, but I'm not holding my breath.

Just to clarify, I HAVE played the game extensively, both solo and in a group. And yeah, the game just.. well, it's Fallout stripped of essentially everything that made the games great and replaced with a structure that reeks of an identity crisis. PVP is bad, solo play is bad, even co-op is pretty broken (no shared XP and the way you work through quests as a team is very confusing). Gun mechanics and graphics are meh, which usually wouldn't matter too much but seeing as though this game pretty much gets rid of everything else it is more noticeable here. Survival elements are tedious enough to irritate people who don't want them yet not harsh or detailed enough to excite survivalist players.

I mean yes the world is "huge" but 95% of it is boring, drawn out radiant/fetch quests, not dissimilar to the Preston Garvey Minutemen missions - only this time you aren't helping anyone because everyone is dead. Is it a terrible sandbox co-op game? No, not really. Not a great one either though. But Bethesda can't expect to latch on to the Fallout title and give us such a medicore product.

Finally, yeah, the game is glitchy as hell, of course, but so are all Bethesda games so I wouldn't say that's the main takeaway from playing this.

tl;dr if you liked the old Fallouts and want something even distantly similar, I'd advise you either stay clear or wait until it's on sale But then I'm a random guy on the internet lol

After playing(or at least trying to play) solo I can confirm, it's the worst single-player open-world game I've ever purchased. I can deal with the many bugs and opening day issues the servers may have, but the lack of NPC's, dialog, graphical upgrades, game-changing decisions, settlements(all the things that take time and money to develop) and sense of achievement has left feeling like I'm not playing towards any type of goal or having any fun. Bottom line...it's not a fun single player game regardless of the fact Bethesda claims it can be. No two ways about it...I've been robbed of 60 bucks based on this claim. By the way, fans keep improving their previous games. In fact, there is a project called TES3MP that brought multiplayer to one of Bethesda's games before they even announced Fallout 76. Morrowind is old, but was made back when Bethesda still made quality games and now we have modern fully functional multiplayer capability ontop of it, so instead of going online to play a half-assed Fallout 76, I invite you whoever reads this to join us on playing the good classics of the olden days.

    2) Extremely glicthy, had a supply drop drone breakdance through the roof of a building, dropping the supply cache inside a house that is impossible to enter. Entered 3 different terminals that got me stuck on a screen as seen in the attached file. The game didn't freeze, and i still had sound, but couldn't do anything so had to alt + F4, so no button on my keyboard did anything. One of these happened right after setting up a character still in the vault, resulting in me having to completely redo my character.

    3) Probably the worst PC port of any fallout game to date in terms of controls (which says a lot considering the state fallout 3 was in when that came out). Functionality of the mouse including left click has been severely reduced compared to previous installments, and instead of being able to navigate certain stuff with the mouse, you now have to do it with awkward keybinds. The weapon/aid wheel is pretty cool though.

    4) when trying to use the voice system, it always just ended with people hammering at their keyboards not knowing it was on, also had a few people just singing to themselves in french...

No NPC's, awful retcons that only exist for brand recognition rather than elaborate world building, beautiful yet empty world, every bit of lore is presented via holotapes, robots or terminals, essentially denying any chance for emotional connection to be created.
Every location is empty simply because LITERALLY everything to do with that location is a fragment of the past (3 lore conveyors mentioned earlier).
Now lets get to the gameplay.
Game is pathetically easy, you can start exploring everything at low levels and have no troubles against enemies 3-4 times your level, simply move back and shoot, but don't be disappointed when you can't use the loot you get, because items are LEVEL based.
My biggest issue with the game is that it has no point, it is literally No Mans Sky.
You get out of the vault, do fetch quests, listen to 5 minute long holotapes, kill terrible AI, explore a very empty world, build a base because its a feature, not because its rewarding in any way and just look at the most beautiful location a Fallout game is set in and just wonder how Bethesda could make it worse than Fallout 4.
Did I mention that the most polished feature in the game is the microtransaction store? Let that sink in.

This isn't a fallout game anymore than Mass Effect Andromeda was a Mass Effect game. Using the game as a skin and playing off the name doesn't make it part of the series. This is the MEA of the fallout world, and will be rated accordingly.

While there are endless opportunities to criticize the game for everything no one wanted, lets focus on one thing. NO one wants to read through endless terminals or listen to endless holotapes, in an empty environment. The same mistakes EA made with MEA, is being made all over again with Bethesda and 76. The reviews should reflect this accordingly, and so far they have. Like it or not, those happy with the game are likely in the minority of the collection.

The game is quite an abomination. Bethesda should be ashamed of themselves. Glad it was on their dollar. Their financial loss, is how we get their attention. With the significant discount in price in recent days, we should see this in the Gamestop bargin bin at $5-$10 in a month or two.

This game is not finished and... certainly not Fallout. It feels like some fan coded a mod to play Fallout 4 as an empty MMO. It fails terribly at single-player as there is no story. For some reason, EVERYONE recorded a holotape before they died and left it out on a table for you to find. Then you get to play a loot simulator while professional voice actors try and make the experience interesting. It's not.
There is no challenge, so multiplayer has no real point other than to run around randomly shooting respawns and looting with friends.
Nothing feels like it makes any sense and this beautifully rendered world is devoid of any immersion. This is not Fallout.
I've spawned under the world twice and I've crashed to desktop multiple times.
Always on Mics just let you hear people clicking their keyboards or hearing them argue with children or parents or spouses in their home. It's uncomfortable. I don't understand why anyone thought this would be a good idea. "Hell is other people" and why I play games like Fallout to begin with.

Let's try to get away from the imagined and or real Bethesda hate and let's take a look why this game is...well, i am sorry to say that because i was really looking forward to this one: ****

    - As survival game this game is a bad joke. Every survival game out there is better and deeper.
    - As Fallout it failed because, no matter how often the always same people repeat it, it is just no Fallout.
    - The enviromental story telling works for 30 minutes. At some point the "go find him/her! Oh he/she is dead" quests get old....which is....right after the first one to be honest.
    - exploring get's boring too pretty fast because there is nothing to explore. All those empty locations and all you get is another holo tape or note.
    - bugs. lots of them.
    - bad mechanics that doesn't fit togehter. Want to build with a friend? oh sorry your building areas are overlapping. get off my lawn.
    - no push to talk or text chat. I mean really? that's 2018 and not 1818.
    - PvP....just....lol.

FO76 trys to cater to a couple of different genres. Survival, RPG and (kind of) Battle royal.
The issue is...it is sub sub sub par in all of them. Adding different puddles doesn't make a good game.

That said, fo76 has a lot of potential. If Bethesda will pick um on this only time will tell. If yes, i will come back and re-rate the game.

    EDIT1:

So, today is the first patch after release. Let's see if the performance improvments will help me to be able to play again.

    EDIT2:
Yeah....well: the patch was more a 15GB hotfix. I admit the game became more stable, but there are still hiccups and lagging as soon as there are more than 2 people around or too much buildings standing in the way. Something that shouldn't happen on a high end rig with fibre internet.

I was able to play 45 minutes before i got bored. The enviormental storytelling just doesn't cath me.
The pseudo-persistence starts to annoy me as well. 3rd time i built a base. 3rd time, while i was offline, another player built on or close to my spot. 3rd time i found my base in my backpack. That' s just annoying. Why is this a thing at all? Other "survival" games can handle full persistence aswell.

It's unlikely that i will play again before a major patch hits FO76. There are other games out there waiting to be played that do not test my patience in the way FO76 does. Non the less, the game is (kinf of) working now. So i will change my vote from 0 to 1.

Imagine this: you're playing with a friend, but neither of you can turn your microphone off even temporarily, and in order to follow a questline you both have to simultaneously listen to different holotapes. This results in constant skipping of holotapes - the ONLY acted contribution to an otherwise empty game. This is to say nothing of the animation issues - monsters sometimes don't animate at all, and just slide around in fixed sprite position like chess pieces. Other times, gun renderings will have them holding their weapons at a bizarre angle, etc.

Thats the only way i see things changing BUT i doubt that'd happen because his ego would probably get in the way of all that. Killed a bat thing and its body slid away from me. and kept going and going and going... Wait a minute, I had this same bug in FO4. They still haven't fixed the bugs from FO4...
No VATS is a game killer for me. It's iconic of the Fallout games. Not having it makes the game seem like a COD, No Man's Sky crossover.
I am sick and tired of base building. At least in FO4 you had a purpose behind your bases. This seems to be nothing more than a place to stash things you hope won't get stolen. Not too worried though since I haven't seen anyone in hours.

Fallout 76 is a shallow, repetitive and incredibly grind heavy experience that cynically takes everything I love about the Fallout series, guts it of all its interesting mechanics and crams the husk of what's left into a generic, boring open world survival multiplayer experience.

I would honestly say that MineCraft is more fun than 76 and that's after growing tired of it half a decade ago. So let's go into more detail on why I feel this way.

The setting: 76 takes the setting from the core series where you play as a vault dweller emerging into a post-apocalyptic world full of nasty enemies and... Not much else. In fact the enemies are for the most part either completely broken or ridiculously easy, but I'll come back to that. The world is actually the best thing about the game and why I'm opting to give a 1 over a zero. There's a lot of vibrant colours and enjoyable scenery, but this is marred heavily by the overall experience.

Another huge issue is the lack of NPCs and quests being doled out in MMO form. The world falls flat when there's no interesting characters to interact with or build the plot.

The combat: Enemies in 76 are a joke. No really. Not only are they either too easy or overpowered by the game deciding to rubber band them around while you try to land a solid hit, but they're also very heavily populated meaning it's impossible to explore at your own pace and enjoy lore through tapes and terminals. There were times where I would enter a building after clearing a zone only to find that the corpses I just made have all disappeared and re-spawned around me.

VATS is a janky mess of a feature which, being in real-time now is not only unintuitive and slow to use, but it's also incredibly unreliably. The most use I could find for it is to snap on to target before aiming manually. It also makes targeting limbs incredibly difficult with feedback on crippling enemies being near non-existent compared to past entries

The multiplayer experience: At any time, in any place, you can and will be sent all number of duel requests from other players in the rare chance that you actually get to meet one outside of area event quests. Not only is this incredibly annoying, but it also deals a tiny amount of damage. Not enough to be threatening, but if you've just finished up[ a big fight and you're out of stims, well, you're not gonna have a lot of fun.

Players can stalk you anywhere and issue these requests at any time. Like when you're trying to read those terminal entries, or sitting through the 20 second sleeping animations. This makes for some immersion shattering experiences that will leave you at best, mildly annoyed. There's also the fact that you can bait players into your suspended platforms in your camp and remove the floor from underneath them, downing them with fall damage and popping their heads with one bullet to get credit for the kill. This never happened to me, but the fact that it can is just stupid. Oh and good luck finding people with the same quest as you for some co-op action.

Overall: Fallout 76 is a cynical attempt at milking the Fallout fanbase for all it's worth. There are micro transactions aplenty with the in-game store with all of the purchasable items being purely cosmetic. I wouldn't take much issue with this if the game itself wasn't a shambling mess of what its predecessors were before it.

The combat is boring and often tedious, enemies are far too common, player griefing is prevalent despite anti-griefing measures and the plot is incredibly hard to enjoy in any capacity.

When it was announced me and my friends would often joke about running into 13 year old kids screaming profanities about our mother as they did everything they could to annoy us into quitting. This didn't happen, but the game itself felt equally offensive just by playing it. It plays like a reanimated corpse of Fallout 4 with none of the charm.

Spend your money elsewhere, I know I will.

Das SPiel wirkt unfertig und so Plump als ob die Entwickler das Game selbst nie gespielt hätten. Es hatt eine Ordentlich Thematische tiefe und Atmo die wirklich gut ist aber das war es auch schon. After all, if you don't have real NPCs, you don't need to worry about endeavouring to write decent dialogue.

I truly hope the overall response to FO 76 proves to be the wakeup call that Bethesda so desperately needs. With Fallout 76, they have truly completed their fall from grace, and they need to understand that.

Finally, I can't help but wonder... If 76 fails to achieve an 85% score here on Metacritic, I wonder if Bethesda will deny themselves royalties.... (I'm sure many remember how Beth screwed over Obsidian over New Vegas in this way)

With Fallout 76, it seems that Bethesda has stripped away the aspects of the game that made it worthwhile, and lazily left in everything that made it so frustrating and broken. Even most of the bugs and broken mechanics that were in Fallout 4 initially are still here, along with a slew of new issues. The game just feels like garbage to play, and it looks like a total mess. Framerate is locked to 63 FPS and your FOV is locked at the console default 70 with no way to change it. Autosaves take forever and the servers crash so often that you can actually lose progress because of the long interval between autosaves. PvP is useless and only serves to waste time or troll people, as the attacker gains nothing most of the time since their damage is limited, and the defender can chem up and equip their best gear just to slaughter the attacker. 1 - Buggy unfinished game
2 - MMOs are not what fans wanted, you can tell all the lies you want Bethesda, we never wanted a MMO (know you customers Bethesda)
3 - Boring grind fest (guns falling apart is the laziest mechanic ever, why even bother finding or crafting a super weapon, it will just fall apart)
4 - Level restrictions on gear is dumb, there are many smarter mechanics to use (gear effectiveness depends on stats, so if a level 1 person uses a rocket launcher, it does 10 damage, stat multiplies by gun stat, and 200 damage when a level 20 person uses that same weapon)
    5 - too easy
6 - Bad engine, aged terribly
7 - Bad near inexistant story and that is not due to the lack of NPCs
    8 - horrible PVP e boring PVE
9 -Bad textures (just hire modders from the community, they always do a better job then Bethesda people)
10 -bad graphics, looks like a last generation game, this has sub par PS3 graphics at best

At least Bethesda listened to our complaints... but for the entirely wrong reasons, as the most innovative way they've addressed the criticism of Fallout 4's dumbed down dialogue and forgettable storyline was by removing both of those aspects altogether and replacing them with a half-arsed PvP system to "compensate". Sure, the game may be OCCASIONALLY fun to play with other players online goofing around the wasteland, wherein despite the gameplay's shortcomings at least there is virtual socialization... but that's where the fun ends. If you're playing it offline, you're up for a colossal disappointment. No friendly NPCs (except completely redundant robot vendors) means shooting literally everything that moves. Generic fetch-quests offer absolutely no replay value what-so-ever. Even gathering never-ending loot around the world for your C.A.M.P is bound to bore you to death. Everything is grounded within an obsolescent engine desperately kept on life support. The engine still inherits the same old archaic features that already became more apparent since Oblivion, such as game speed tied to a framerate and game-breaking glitches caused by manipulating the FoV with the only way to fix such problems is locking the two - even though this can often create performance issues on certain hardware (perhaps redundant considering how Creation Engine, a.k.a Gamebryo 2.0 is already horribly optimized for modern CPUs and Graphics Cards) - but forget the age of this engine because the fact that it was never suitable for online games to begin with is a real kicker; bugs that run amok and are still not fixed despite the alleged beta-testing prior to release is something I really don't need to mention. Visually, FO76 may be a step-up from Fallout 4, since at least the light is fully dynamic, post-processing effects are actually doing something, the godrays don't look like a milk shower and some texture-work is actually respectable but overall it's nowhere near fantastic for this generation.

But my real issue doesn't lie in game's quality or handling. It's the same issue I've had since Fallout 4 and that's the bastardization of the Fallout insignia. The series has long been deprived of its spirit and Fallout series is an empty husk of what it once was. You can call me an entiled nostalfeg all you want but even if I were to ignore Fallout in the game's title I still can't ignore that 60 dollars for a game so mediocre is way too much, considering that there exist online survival games which are much cheaper, much better... and most importantly devoid of technical issues that Fallout 76 is plagued by, so they have abolutely no excuse not to fix their games (modding community won't get them out of it this time anyway, it's an online game).

-The enemy variety is poor despite the fact there is a lot of enemy types, get used to seeing scorched repeatedly because there are no raiders
-The quests are dumb, who thought it was a good thing to do quests for dead people? Imagine if you played Fallout 1 and you were fetching a water chip for your dead vault, thats every quest in this game
-The gameplay is still clunky, animations don't play properly or smooth enough
-Enemies are too hard (by "hard" I mean spongy) or too easy, there is no inbetween
-The texture work is terrible, outside maybe the exterior lighting the game looks terrible and the interior lighting makes me want to puke
-Lore retcons up the eyeballs, seriously nothing makes sense anymore its all just to keep the illusion its still fallout
-The microtransaction store filled with crap, nuff said
-The game is empty and not in a good way, the servers only hold around 20 players, thats not enough for a map thats apparently "4 times the size of Fallout 4"
-No Push to talk, so listen to screeching kiddies
-No FOV slider, for people like me it makes me feel literally sick
-Physics are STILL tied to fps, Bethesda...why?
-The inventory limit is waaaaay too low to be enjoyable, but then again Bethesda maybe should make their game an actual survival game than adding stuff all over the place!
-The perk cards seem like an interesting idea, just waiting for them to be monetized, gg for killing skills, which is actually a very simplistic system, this is just condescending and insulting.
-Re-use of assets, I **** you not the final end-game boss is a reskinned dragon, even the behavior is the same where they circle around like retards then land
-No NPCs, in a fallout game this is despicable, I could MAYBE buy it if there wasn't any hints of life but there is literally signs of recent life all over the place with notes and holotapes and fresh dead bodies, why can't bethesda commit to being an actual post apocalypse?
-The settlement building limit is too low and even storing stuff counts towards the limit, this is so dumb in an age where INDIE survival games are allowing people to do whatever without limit, if this is an engine issue, GET. A. NEW. ENGINE!
-The voice acting that is there is boring, you listen to stuff like the overseers past life as a farmer...NOBODY CARES! EXPOSITION! And because everyone is dead in this game she likely is too, so why should I care?
-The UI is disgusting, other than the favourite menu they have improved NOTHING, no sub menus, tags, nada, the settlement building UI is also atrocious, pray to god you don't rebind your keys or well...just try it, I dare you.
-The game is trying to appeal to everyone and appeals to nobody as a result, even the survival elements are tame outside of maybe radiation
-"Dedicated servers" might as well be a joke in the AAA games industry, i've had a more stable experience with Multiplayer mods for MORROWIND

    Lets talk about the positives:
-The settlement system is okay I guess, if you ignore the limits and bugs, its cool coming across other peoples camps and you can also utilise theirs, so there is kind of a purpose.
-Gameplay loop is addicting even if it is mindless, there is something about picking up a toothbrush and being able to scrap it
    -Playing with friends
-Locations are somewhat varied, somebody tried but its not enough to recognise with how ugly everything is, I feel bad for the concept artists
-Power armour is awesome again, its now that rare thing you want to achieve, shamefully its heavy as hell so it will take a large chunk of your inventory space
-The character creator has improved a tad bit, adding some options and the hair colors actually look like hair and not plastic, but even so modders have added far more to Fallout 4 already, Bethesda are outplayed here

I would only EVER recommend this game when private servers and mods become a thing, but honestly we've let Bethesda away with too much, I hope mod authors let this game rot, they deserve better, we deserve better. And this $60 full priced crap needs to go, its ripping us off in reality and then they have the gall to ask us for more? No, I'm done. The AAA industry is a joke if this is the standard we hold for full priced games.

Oh and Bethesda, please update your other games for modern OS's...or don't because we know how much you care about your games. Not at all.

Crafting is taken from Fallout 4 and made worse. The survival mechanics are taken from Fallout 4 and made worse. Combat is taken from Fallout 4 and made worse, most egregiously in the form of neutering VATS. VATS used to be the cornerstone of several incredible builds, from the crit-based pistoleer to the sneaky Blitz-based melee type, teleporting from mob to mob without exposing yourself to undue danger.

Aside from removing playstyles and dumbing down combat, all storytelling has been reduced to audiologs. There are so many audiologs, you'll frequently get the next one before the previous one has even finished. It's the epitome of lazy writing. And, if you actually force yourself to suffer through the main story, you'll find that it never gets better.

So what do you actually *do* in Fallout 76? Walk around and collect herbs, mostly. You have to be constantly gathering because meats, vegetables and herbs spoil over time, so if you intend to use them for crafting or cooking, you need fresh ingredients. This boils the gameplay down to a really slow walk through the fields, quite literally picking flowers. One of the best/most reliable healing items can be crafted with two types of flowers and water... but one of those flowers only grows near streams and rivers. Guess what the map has very few of? You guessed it; streams and rivers. You're gonna get really familiar with the small handful of farming spots for specific pieces of loot.

Disappointing game, all things considered. It is more fun if you bring friends along, but that's not praise; it's condemnation. The game is a boring, mindless, tedious, grindy slog if you're trying to play solo.

    1/10 would not recommend.

Worse yet, they are using an engine that was never built for online-play and it has has some easily exploitable netcode.

Not only is Fallout 76 unrecognisable in its current state, but the good elements of Fallout are abandoned, and the worst parts enhanced; yes, the world is sprawling and verdant, but it feels... empty.

You can set off to the most remote parts of the map, exploring the lavish beauty of the Appalachian landscape, and you'll encounter nothing but endless waves of braindead, belligerent Scorched; hostile on sight, they offer no dialogue, simply muttering unintelligibly and proceeding to put up the most meagre of fights. It's hard to feel challenged when your opponent dies in one or two shots.

The events you can participate in with other players are more of the same — go to the location, receive some spiel from a robot or radio signal about an area under attack, and then fight off waves of enemies, and receive some caps and mediocre loot. Is that the best this game has to offer?

Plus the respawn is INSANE. You can kill an enemy, wait 30 seconds, and watch as your foe reanimates in front of your very eyes. Immersion-breaking maybe, but what's worse is that it often makes looting large areas considerably difficult — and not the fun, challenging sort of "difficult", but the tedious kind. It shouldn't feel like a chore.

In summary, if you played Fallout 4 and thought "man, what this game needs is more Raiders to attack me on sight, even less of a storyline, no human NPCs or communities, and guns that break", then boy do I have the game for you!

I do not know why Bethesda, thought that it is a good idea to leave the chose of whether a player participates in multiplayer mode to the good nature of other players (are you kidding me). I could comment on other issues, but anything related to technical issues or comparison to other version, I will reserve for other commenters. But above all else, the game is BEYOND buggy, RAMPANT client AND server crashing, invisible enemies, models that look like they came from Steven Carpenter's "The Thing", and a completely salvageable garbage-fire that is the game's CAMP and settlement systems.

Besides that the game is simply not fun when comparing to any other BGS title. Sure it may be a totally new direction and comparisons shouldn't be made, but that's a bad excuse for a boring game loop. Extremely excited for Starfield though! 1/10 better luck next time weenies.

That same quest line is now impossible to complete because one of the last things I have to do was done by someone else and the object never resets, so I can't finish it even after multiple attempts at logging out/in. I've been fighting stuff my level only to have 8 enemies appear that are 20+ levels higher than me, stomping me into the ground and essentially "camping" 2 hours worth of looted goods that I can't get back. After many attempts to push through, these bugs have completely ruined my taste for this game. And when things are working, there really isn't that much to do. And I don't care if they do plan to add stuff in the future. For $60, I expect a polished and entertaining experience of at least 4-6 hours. This has been endless hours of bugs, boredom and paranoia that something twice your level will jump out randomly and kill you. They get 1 point for the little work they did put into it and hopefully the start of something better. They lose 4 points for the bugs and 5 points for being greedy and making us pay for their extended beta test. Expand

I've played every Fallout game except for Fallout 2 (its on my pile of shame but i haven't had the time yet) and i would say that it is one of my favorite gaming franchises. That's why i'm sad to say that Fallout 76 is not a good game.

The Graphics are just a tiny little bit better than Fallout 4, so someone, who doesn't know the difference, could mistake it for Fallout 4.

The Performance is mediocre at best. More than a few times i had freezes that lasted 1-2 seconds, which weren't game breaking but still very annoying and i think the problem is on Bethesda´s side, because the friend i was playing with, has a better pc than me and he also got those freezes. And even without them it always felt "rough" and "choppy", if that makes sense. One "good" Thing is, apart from the first loading screen, when you join a server (which takes ages) the loading times where ok.

The gameplay is pretty much the same as in Fallout 4. V.A.T.S. has changed, because you can't freeze or slow down time in an online game. Now its just "press a button when the percentage is high enough". You can still target different body parts, but because the time doesn't slow down, you have hardly any time to choose properly and so i just shot normally, which is also not precise. So many times I had an enemy in my crosshair and the shot would miss.

The building aspect isn't thought out well. The controls feel a bit better in comparison to Fallout 4, but the whole system is buggy as hell. You now have a camp, that you can pull out of your pocket via pip-boy and theoretically you can place it everywhere except for existing locations. The problem is, that if you log out and come back the next day or so, your camp could be gone. Because when you log on to a server and someone else put his camp on or around the location of your camp, your camp is gone. Everything you built should be stored, but that doesn't work. My builds ended up in pieces in the "stored"-tab instead of one House and that happened even after Bethesda fixed it allegedly. Some stuff even disappeared completely and even if, by some miracle, my build was stored as one, i couldn't built it on the same spot, because the placing of stuff is still as sensitive and restricted as in Fallout 4, if not even worse.

And the biggest problem for me is the story. Or more precisely, the lack of it. You still get quests, of course, but now you get them from robots with no personality other than being a robot or , sometimes, when you're just near the area of a quest. Most of the quests are simple "go there and do that"-tasks without a big story behind them. The environmental storytelling is still there, but i feel like even that is not as good as in other Fallout games. Now you find a lot (and i mean a LOT) of notes and audio logs, that tell the story. But while you listen to one audio log you find 3 more and when you pick up audio logs from dead bodies or out of containers, the current tape you listening to, stops automatically for the new tape to play. And there is no way to play an audio log from where you left off. you have to listen from the beginning. With Tapes, that can last a few minutes, this is so annoying. And because this is an online game, you cant pause to focus on a tape. So while you listen to it, you have to keep fighting enemies and talk with other players. Maybe someone with perfect multitasking can do it, but im not that one.

And of course there are the typical bugs and problems, that come with a Bethesda game. I myself was lucky enough to not get a game breaking bug. But the good old ones like physics freaking out, enemies in T-position, audio cut-offs when a "npc" is talking, there still here plus some new ones that are online-only. For one Quest i needed to kill an enemy, but the problem was, that other players had already killed this enemy and it didn't respawn! So i had to switch servers several times (which meant i had to wait every time through the long loading screen) just to find him dead again and again until i found a server, where i was the first to get to the enemy. This is not acceptable for an online game!

Fallout 76 is just a copy-paste job to make some more money from the Fallout Franchise. Its not thought through well and it just feels like Fallout 4: Online. With Fallout 4 i said "Its a good game, but not a good Fallout game" With Fallout 76 i can't even say this. Maybe, if Bethesda keeps patching and improving it, the game could become OK and playable. But for now i'm gonna treat it like a certain Indiana Jones movie about some aliens, that never existed and fill my fallout needs with Fallout 2!

The game is not finished whats-so-ever. It is very boring right out of the get-go. Definitely not worth $60... not even $40 that it's currently at. The game is failing worse than Andromeda did. Personally, if you are wanting to play the game, i would wait until it drops to $15 or less... otherwise, don't waste your time or money.

    Sincerely,
    someone who canceled their pre-order.

The game just feels empty and there is no incentive to invest yourself in the experience so I refunded. Now I can't uninstall the game as the Bethesda.Net launcher is 'broken'. Fallout 76 represents a big disappointment and the lowest point of the series so far. Riddled with bugs, repetitive and dull gameplay, nonexistent story and outdated graphics, it fails as a both multiplayer and singleplayer experience for fans and newcomers alike.
