    Instead of an online Fallout game, you get a total trainwreck of a game. A trainwreck that is not even interesting to stare at. Broken physics, broken balance, broken world, lifeless and devoid of any meaningful content. And it all runs on grandmas old engine that already looked outdated and odd when Fallout 3 came out. Bethesda is done.    Says it was Fallout. Isn't Fallout. Total scam.

    I put about 100 hours into this game and did my best to give it a fair shot. While there was some glimmiers of hope for this game, it was plagued by poor design choices, a terrible engine, bad AI, and of course lots of game breaking bugs. I honestly spent 40% of my time just managing my inventory, the weights of items even with all of the weight reduction perks is crazy high. The stashI put about 100 hours into this game and did my best to give it a fair shot. While there was some glimmiers of hope for this game, it was plagued by poor design choices, a terrible engine, bad AI, and of course lots of game breaking bugs. I honestly spent 40% of my time just managing my inventory, the weights of items even with all of the weight reduction perks is crazy high. The stash limit pathetically low, and your own camp is pathetically small as well.

    I actually had the most fun when I used an exploit to remove any weight caps. No longer did I need the cards, no longer did I have to run to a camp every 15 minutes to figure what I could get rid of, instead I actually got to play the game. As of now that exploit is now patched, and now my incentive for playing the game is entirely gone.

    Doing missions that I couldn't finish got old. Trying to clear an area only to have an enemy stuck in the floor got old. There is no late game at launch, no actual feeling of factions, no focus. How is this a released game? This still feels like a beta.

    It's amazing how a loyal die hard customer like myself is now second guessing anything I buy from Bethesda. How badly did you have to screw up to make me feel that way?    … Expand

    Fallout 1 and 2 were amazing. Fallout 3 was strange but ok. Fallout NV gave some hope for this game series. Fallout 4 was boring as hell and had a weak story. But Fallout 76 it's something. Something bad. Really really bad.

    This is a watered down FPS with a RPG facade that makes a pitiful attempt at engaging the player with some of the worst loot, crafting, and questing systems out there all while using multiplayer as an excuse to ratchet up the grind and abandon any semblance of decent game design. I cannot believe I am saying this, but this game is actually soulless.

    What we didn't knew is that Bethesda was eager to get into that train...

    - Sub-par, clunky, annoying gameplay, that cannot stand on it's own, when all the "good stuff" (RPG/NPC/STORY/FACTIONS/CHOICES) are missing.

    - 90% reused assets from FO4, which would probably make this game the biggest asset flip in history, even FO4's DLCs had far more new assets... it's insane;

    - Lore retcons, that make no sense, and completely destroy previous established lore, either because they were too lazy to create something new/interesting, or because of their complete CREATIVE BANCRUPCY.

    - Most of the things you do in this game, DOESN'T MAKE SENSE (setting/immersion/gameplay/interactions wise). ZERO effort and common sense.

    - Atrocious graphics, which thanks to their REGRESSIVE "new lighting/rendering update", look worse than FO4, which with it's mostly accurate PBR rendering looked very decent, ESPECIALLY for a BGS game. There is tons of art inconsistency, that they tried to hide with insane amount of postprocessing "smear", and Todd Rays, which looks embarrassing.

    - Insanely unoptimized game, but that's mainly the engine's fault, that doesn't even support things like LODs for meshes/models, LIKE ANY OTHER MODERN ENGINE, which results in huge performance hit, despite their low-quality/outdated 3D assets. This is completely unacceptable in 2018.

    - One of the last objectively good features from FO4, that had the potential to be the ONLY thing that would make me play this game - THE BUILDING/SETTLEMENT system, is COMPLETELY NERFED, probably because of the engine in a MP environment. Where in other games like Conan Exiles, you can do whatever you want, whenever you want, without ANY limitations. The building system in 76 is simply pathetic, and not worth even doing, and with that pretty much goes away the ONLY possible interesting thing/selling point.

    - And the best thing, which is the final nail in the coffin full of fan tears and broken hearts, that is mainly caused by their LAZYNESS with their choice not to put the effort (read: spend money) to put NPCs:

    Z O M B I E S W I T H G U N S!

    This game is an insult, to the franchise, to fans, to casual(unsuspecting) gamers looking for a MP survival game, to people's intelligence, to people's money, TO EVERYTHING. It's poor in EVERY POSSIBLE ASPECT. Nothing redeemable. NOTHING. And it's FULL PRICE $60 + insulting MICROTRANSACTIONS in the face of the atomic store, which is insultingly the most polished "feature" in the game.

    Bethesda are losing it. This is neither MP nor SP, it's some kind of degenerated mix in between. Not that we wanted a FO mp - FO was always SP and should've remained SP.

    Also please don't force us to use Bethesda client.. Why? Why not just have people get it from wherever they want. Steam, GOG etc. This is garbage and I really do not recommend it. FO3, NV, FO4 are all so much better.

It is a low effort sandbox game that dumbs down the roleplay aspects even further from a mediocre Fallout 4 (which was a good exploration game, but terrible role play and fallout game).     Absolutely lifeless and a complete disgrace to the series. What stumps me is that Bethesda was onto a great thing, their games were enjoyed, and they sold millions of copies. As a result of all this money and all of the fan base, they reinvested nothing and basically did everything a company could do to insult it's fan base. Farewell Gaming, the last Giant has fallen.

    I have played this game since the so-called "B.E.T.A.", and successfully completed about 98% of the quests. I have been able to play the game on maximum graphical settings with no problems, until the December 19 patch. I tried using the supplied validate/repair tool, I reinstalled the game, I reinstalled the launcher and the game, I opened a support ticket. Support told me that because my CPU fell below spec that they couldn't (read wouldn't) help me. I posted the same information on a thread in the support forum and it was censored. This game and the level of interest Bethesda is showing in helping their customers has finally broken my faith in them. I doubt that I will ever buy a product from them again.    … Expand

After playing this game for hundreds of hours, trying to find the 'fallout' in it, I've been greatly disappointed in the games many problems and embarrassing errors they should have fixed before putting this piece of work on the market (especially at a $60 price tag). There was really only 1 thing I found good about this game...and a lot bad.

    Pros - game has great exploration; graphics are perhaps above average for this era.

    Cons - (1) interface is archaic - I have no idea who was overseeing the interface designer, but they should have been fired. From clunky combinations and multiple menus to get to something that should have only taken 1 to key combinations that conflict with others (such as exit power armor and inviting someone to your team, the interface of this game is simply embarrassing to say the least, especially for a company like Bethesda.
    (2) poor/ambiguous PVP elements - from having pacifist mode to being attacked by a high level player and having them whittle me away to nothing (though I am pacifist and don't want to PVP), I found their PVP system to be pretty much garbage. You either are making your game PVP and forcing others to PVP or you aren't. Make up your mind, Beth-tardesda. I personally don't care to PVP and I don't want to be forced into it. But they don't give any explanation of how PVP works. You just sorta have to find out when in game. and pray you've deposited all your scrap in your stash beforehand.
    (3) Bugs. Honestly, this game should be sueable simply by the amount of bugs it has--not just minor bugs--but game breaking bugs. Crash to desktop bugs, which happen regularly--to regularly to be acceptable. Perhaps every 30 minutes or more often. Lag bugs, where creatures are hitting you and/or you them when you've loaded an area, but you can't see anything. Glitch bugs where creatures arms/legs/body is distorted like 20 feet in the air when dead...or creatures being stuck under the ground during a settlement quest or other, making it impossible to finish the quest. The bugs and utter lack of quality assurance in this area break this game. I can take all the things I thought were nice about it and put them in the pot and piss on them. Because it doesn't matter how much of a 'good game' you could have had, if its so damn riddled with bugs it's unplayable. And that is what this game is. It's absolute garbage. I honestly hope they get sued and run out of business. Shame on them for releasing this game about 6 months sooner than it should have been.
    With that said, I say, "no, No, NO!" Don't buy this. Don't even think of buying this. I wouldn't even buy it if it was on sale for $15. It's not even worth that. If they were to ever work out the bugs, the game still wouldn't pass with a 7. WHich brings me to my next con...
    (4) Balancing - I think they nerfed good loot. Haven't seen a decent weapon or armor piece in almost 2 weeks of continual farming. But besides that, you just don't get any good loot or bosses or anything like that at low level. From around L1-40, you're stuck trying to find events around the map and doing the main quests...and pretty much nothing else. No point in farming. There is nowhere to farm. No places, other than those wolf quests, to farm low level legendaries. And once you get 40-50 (and you could do it sooner, if you're careful or use power armor), you go to Whitesprings. But once you're there, that's about it. You level...and level....and do the scorch queen when it's up...and then go back to leveling at Whitesprings. Or maybe Watoga. End game in this useless game is a joke. 0/10 for End game.
    WIth that said, don't waste your time on this game. Don't even buy it if it's on sale for $5.00. It will be the biggest waste of your $5 bill you ever did.    … Expand

    Not really sure what they were smoking when they decided this was a good idea. Not only is it using the same bug infested engine from ages ago. Btw, most of the game is client side so cheating is super easy and rampant before the game was even released. Highly recommend you spend your money elsewhere.

I believe a game like this doomed the moment they decide to make it into an MMO. Yes, I know they say it's not, but anyone with half a brain can see that it really is an MMO.     Add to that limited settings to improve video performance, no mouse settings to speak of, very few other setting, some ridiculous new Bethesda launcher.... I'm over it. After about 6 hours of game play I'm done. I'm already tired of playing this game. If you were looking for the next beautifully crafted Fallout game, this isn't it. Pass on buying this game and start hoping Fallout 5 returns to the series roots.    … Expand

    What a disappointment. The world looks great but the content is just so bleak. To me this seems like a cash grab and it is pretty awful. For a fallout game, if you can vall it that, its pretty awful. I hope bethesda work hard on their future singleplayer games as Im a little bit worried about them considering that their lack of quality has diminished recently.

    The graphics are pretty decent especially when it comes to foliage, the rest of the textures seem to be recycled from fallout 4, the game play and weapon handling outside of vats is identical to fallout 4, with the only exception being that you are constantly fighting a storage limit in your stash at the mid/late game in FO76. and the small increase coming is nowhere near enough, and the base building limit is absolutely pathetic.

    While i expected the FO76 to have some bugs as all Bethesda games are very buggy anyways, fallout 76 is probably the buggiest AAA, or even early access game ever released and probably will ever be released. it is almost impressive how many there are in this game. From T posed characters, mismatched animation bugs and movement bugs, textures disappearing, containers slow/infinite loading bugs, weapon texture and ads bugs, reload bugs, many many status effect bugs/glitches/exploits, including the weight glitch that is being exploited by many players, equipment durability bugs & status effect bugs, crafting menu bugs, pipboy bugs, cloaking bugs, scope texture misalignment after reloading bug, melee bugs, and base building bugs, enemy spawning bugs, and enemy clipping into the terrain bugs, an impressive variety of quest bugs,and the thousands of bugs you could probably find on the official forums, It is impossible to play for more than 3 mins (other than standing still and even then you would be lucky not to see one) before seeing an immersion breaking or frustrating bug. you could almost pick any random word out of your imagination and there would be at least two or three bugs in FO76 that would relate to it!

    To say that this game needed another whole year in development to fix the bugs alone, is an understatement. let alone add some semblance of a real story not to mention human NPCs, that would have made it fun. people who are giving this a 10/10 must be out of their mind.

    As much as I have tried to enjoy this game and have had some fun at times, I still find myself utterly disappointed, and jared by the incompetence of Bathesda, by what they did to this game and how they charged $60 for the privilege of the most incomplete AAA title of the decade.

    I have been a huge Fallout/Elder scrolls fan for a long time, and to have Bathesda pull this stunt on its loyal fan base is utterly insulting, I swear will never pre-order another title from Bathesda as long as I live. my outlook for Elder Scrolls 6 and Starfield is now nonexistent.    … Expand

It is no wonder their "throne" is being overtaken by companies like CD Project RED that actually has some integrity with their games and try to focus on making quality products instead of pushing some pathetic political agenda.

    The second reason this game gets a zero is that there is absolutely no point in having this game online, and it is likewise as obvious it is only done because they hope to be able to get more money that way. Having this game online just annoying when their servers crash, you get lag and there are other annoying players nearby who just distract. I even disconnect sometimes when entering a new area where there are other players to see if I can reconnect where there are no players around. So some doofus at Bethesda thought to remove all people from Fallout series, even from the enemies was a good ideal. The game is not stable, the enemies are boring and stupid (as in the AI). Todd Howard said the game would have a story and quests. The quests are extremely boring, and to even get a quest, you have to talk to a deadpan, characterless featureless robot with no personality, or get a quest from a terminal, or a random scrap of paper on the ground. Players cheated to launch nukes on the first day of the game's launch, something that was supposed to take weeks or months to do, crashing a server on day one. There is no push to talk voice communication in the game, even weeks after the launch of the first online-only Fallout game. We were promised a game that had, memorable stories and quests, that was a flat out lie. We were told the game engine was enhanced and new, also another lie, they simply built upon the Fallout 4 game engine, it is obvious just looking at the game. Grouping in the game can only be done if you can actually find a group of people willing to group up, which does not always happen. Solo play in the game is a joke as well, even though Todd Howard said you could solo play, as in ignoring the other players on the server with you, it isn't actually a feature. You can 'Solo' play in WoW but that isn't something you actually want to do, it feels the same in Fallout 76. This is the worst game Bethesda has released so far, and it is plainly obvious they released it in a fractionally finished state. Graphical bugs galore everywhere, light sources coming straight out of the ground, from inside of a tree or object instead of from the sun, or an actual light source, falling through the ground has happened numerous times as well. I truly regret buying this game as I feel as though I have been had by the E3 presentation as the game is nothing like I was told it would be.     The fans of Bethesda really didn't deserve this, this game is really below standard, both in terms of gameplay, but also in terms of technical issues like glitches, bugs and server timeouts.

This thing isn't ready for public consumption, not for that price, not when it's comparable to all other survival games on Steam in terms of gameplay and worse than them in terms of stability and connectivity! This shouldn't have been released to the public for another 2-3 years of intense development! And all that with a patch that's bigger than the game!? What were you thinking Bethesda!?

    This, being a survival game and not an RPG, means that there's no NPCs, no story, no investment. A truly dead and barren wasteland and that, my friends, means that the game is boring. Walk, shoot, gather, walk, shoot, gather... nothing more, nothing less. Oh, "but it's fun with friends", I hear you saying - well, so was watching "The Room" and playing "Ride to Hell: Retribution". Everything is fun with friends because, at the very worst, misery loves company.

    But wait, there's more... because the same old, busted, barely working game engine is yet again back with all of the glory of the stumbling old, drunk man reliving his youth. The lengths to which developers try to obfuscate the engine's limitations include varying quality of textures and the most distracting visual depth effect I have ever seen! This, being an online game, means that modders won't come to fix it this time as modding will probably be a heavily monitored aspect of the game, Bethesda's paid mods service will probably be the only way to make this game playable. Oh, the framerate is also locked, not that it matters when the game hasn't been optimised at all.

    And I hear you saying "don't like it, don't play it". Fine. I want my money back, but Bethesda won't give me my money back! The game's not on Steam, their launcher is a broken mess as well (it can delete the game files or not allow you to uninstall the game at all) and their refund policy takes so damn long just for you to hear "no"... This game is a disaster. Bethesda is just Bethesda, they publish great games but make garbage themselves lately. Don't waste your money on this one.    … Expand

    At my opinion fallout should be dark & mature without stupid funny "bang bang with my friends", we have tons of such games already.

    this is the most trashy game ever, despite very enjoyable gameplay which in m opinion is one of the best experiences; tha game deserves less than 0 considering that after almost 2 years after it's launch, it still has server connection problems and discconects you in the middle of a quest, making you lose it, and all the **** loot you bothered to scavenge for 2 hours.

    Game crash, disconnect, cheat. There's no QA in this game. You can't even get out of tutorial area without falling to the 'undermap'.
    And it won't even let me uninstall.

The structures you can build look nice and feel like they are yours but you are going to fight with the build system to make your structure. There are so many new things to find but no explanation is given on what the Mods do and most of them don't even state what item they mod or even how to mod your items... There are heaps of new creatures to encounter but they move in ways that just are not even close to realistic, sometimes not even moving their limbs but still able to easily "glide" after you. The lighting is wonderful unless you are seeing light rays shine through a mountain as the sun sets behind it or notice the glow of a light that does nothing to light up an area or just random light boxes that turn off or on because you are standing on one side of a doorway or other. The sounds are really nice and the environment sounds rich but then you look around to see the birds that are making noise and there are never any birds there are birdhouses that have been constructed around the place and even small setup where the time has been taken to show that someone was making and painting these birdhouses. And not just the missing birds but the radios that are spread around the towns are playing copyright music that gets your videos demonetised and you lose revenue because of this and you can't change the radios to music you may own the rights to because that just is not a function and the radios are tied directly into the "sound effects" so if you want to not get copyright strikes on your youtube you have to play the game with no sound effects.. Why is this even a thing? The map is massive and there is so much to explore and you hardly see anyone and that's really nice but if someone does walk into the area you are in every enemy respawns and you have to fight them all again and if that person is a higher level than you then good luck your about to get owned by all the enemies that will spawn in at their higher level.
    I really wanted to love this game and I got it the first day it was released but I just can't play it anymore. I am level 39 and I am hating the game. I fight with the build mechanics and bad menu system to make a base around the workbenches to have the server kick me and I lose all my resource I put into building my area up around the workbench. My building is never on any of the servers again. In the middle of a battle, the game pulls up my weapons wheel when I am in combat? I am told this happens to so many other players. I love the little things about the game but overall I hate this and if I was a first-time player I would never buy anything from Bethesda after this and I would want nothing to do with any of the Fallout titles. This game is just broken and each time I play it on a Friday I am finding I am hating it more and more. Fix your game Bethesda I know you rushed it out to get the Xmas dollars, now mostly only hackers are playing your game. Oh yeah, the issues with hackers are getting worse. Able to kill you even though you don't fight back to finish the PvP activation. 1 shot your dead? So much for a good time. I am so mad and sad about this I don't even have words to say how much this title upsets me without swearing in many combinations of filthy words. Someone or many people need to be fired due to this poorly rushed game release. The head of Bethesda should step down! On the other hand, some of the level designers should be promoted it's only because out for eye for details and design did I stick out the game for this long. Oh, and the microtransaction store can F right off! Never would I spend a cent more EVER! Don't buy this game unless you plan to let it sit uninstalled until 6 months or a year have passed so they have time to fix the game.

    Fallout 76 represents a big disappointment and the lowest point of the series so far. Riddled with bugs, repetitive and dull gameplay, nonexistent story and outdated graphics, it fails as a both multiplayer and singleplayer experience for fans and newcomers alike.

    Miracles do happen once in a while and No Man’s Sky proved that sometimes it is possible to get back on your feet even after a terrible failure. Right now though Fallout 76 is botched spectacularly on so many levels that even talking about this game is a waste of time. [01/2019, p.46]
