Good software houses are being destroyed because greedy and ignorant shareholders have taken control. Greedy people who have never touched a videogame, who are pushing their developers to do as much as possible in the shortest time and with as little resources as possible. That's why we have a 2018 game with a 90s graphic engine (yes exactly) which was originally wrote for multiplayer 33.6kb MMO's and 3dfx GPUs, then converted to a singleplayer only engine and is now being forced to work online again with broadband and modern hardware. A train wreck basically. No attention was put into the details, constantly you have to look for Jim, for Frank for Anna... they are all dead! They are all dead because there are no NPCs in this game. So you are forced to go look for a person but you know exactly he will just be a corpse because the whole mechanic doesn't exist. It's so incoherent, the gameplay is miserable, graphics look bad.. On the backend the situation is tragic, you can basically see the IPs of other players in plain text and the game speed is bound to the FPS (yes exactly, like they used to do in the 90s) and i could go on for days. If you buy this game without being an ignorant casual you deserve no respect. You are a short sighted person who rewards bad companies for bad work and i can only hope your actions won't lead other SH to follow. Expand

What on earth did I just play, and WHY DID I WASTE MY MONEY ON IT!?
I LOVE Bethesda games, I have ALL of them, back to the beginning in DOS. Fallout 76, on the other hand, is a horrible oozing puss filled blister on the rear end of Bethesda's great game history.

The wonderful mechanics from Fallout 4 are gone and replaced with a glitchy copy-cat; there's nothing like Scorchbeasts following you indefinitely even though you're using stealthboys and sneaking. That's right, even if you're hidden, the BEAST will still follow you and won't stop until you either kill it of get horribly mangled by the extremely OP bastardization. Why is there even a dragon in Fallout?!!!!? WRONG TITLE BETHESDA!!!

The crafting menus are horrible and the mechanics of building your own base are equally as bad. Extremely limited crafting options, clunky inaccurate maps, boring lifeless quests, difficult to navigate terrain and to top it all off, a storage cap! So at some point you have to start trashing your beloved loot and even crafting supplies just to be able to WALK because you're only allowed 400lbs of "My Stash" storage.

I'm so angry i'm going to go burn a copy of the game files to CD so I can put them in the microwave and watch them burn. Bethesda, you f^&*ed up this time.

Says it was Fallout. Isn't Fallout. Total scam.
Instead of an online Fallout game, you get a total trainwreck of a game. A trainwreck that is not even interesting to stare at. Broken physics, broken balance, broken world, lifeless and devoid of any meaningful content. And it all runs on grandmas old engine that already looked outdated and odd when Fallout 3 came out. Bethesda is done.

What a disappointment. The world looks great but the content is just so bleak. To me this seems like a cash grab and it is pretty awful. For a fallout game, if you can vall it that, its pretty awful. I hope bethesda work hard on their future singleplayer games as Im a little bit worried about them considering that their lack of quality has diminished recently.

I've watched over the years and the quality of their games have been ever so steadily dropping, circling the drain as their RPG mechanics are stripped out or dumbed down and their stories are simplified (and cease to make any sense (For a point of reference, I'm in the middle of doing a near full analysis of Fallout 4, the first video alone was two hours long and it very much looks like the next two videos will be equally long and that's not even counting the DLC))

Fallout is a series that has a place in the heart of many gamers and it isn't simple brand loyalty. Fallout has become an established series rooted deeply in player choice, characters, world building, storytelling and it's RPG mechanics, something Bethesda has tragically stripped out from each game. The change of format from an Isometric RPG to a first person one isn't a game breaker for Fallout, however removing everything from Fallout that MADE it Fallout is.

Fallout 76 presents a vast and empty world, in which there are no characters and nothing to do but wander aimlessly. No characters = no story. While there are in fact quests and a supposed main story, they essentially boil down to generic tasks for you to complete while any attempted semblance of story is crudely vomited at you via drawn out audio logs. Without characters in the world, there is no investment in completing quests as your actions are meaningless to the world and exist solely as vague "things" to keep the player busy. All quests are presented by a holotape, a computer terminal, a note or a dead body and they all end in the same fashion or just at random when you complete the objective. Many of these quests will also just dump random "loot" items into the player's inventory upon completion, even if the goal of the quest was to find a cache of loot anyways.

Bethesda must have taken the criticisms of Fallout 4's story and dialogue system seriously and their solution was to just remove them entirely. All you're left with is a world full of loot to aimlessly gather, enemies to shoot at and raising your character's S.P.E.C.I.A.L. for no real reason.

To top it all off, Fallout 76 is a buggy mess as well. I have no idea why fans of Bethesda have let them get away with their buggy games for so long, but prior to the release of Fallout 76, it had become a meme and something people joke about, but ultimately have given Bethesda a pass on. There's already countless videos out detailing the many bugs, glitches and errors. During my playtime, I had enemies fall through the world, dead enemies floating mid-air as physics stopped working and numerous enemies teleporting about just to name a few.

The game was laggy during my entire playtime as well, there was constant stuttering and pausing and near freezing. This made the game near impossible to play, especially in combat, as it made aiming at any enemies about 10 times harder than it should have been. There was at least twice I thought the game had frozen or crashed.

Speaking of combat, most of the enemies I encountered didn't do too much damage. If you let them pick away at you, they could kill you, but otherwise they weren't much of a threat. I know there are more enemies in the game, but I only encountered just a few in my 3 hours of play. Weapon and armor durability is back, much to my surprise and as much as I disliked it being removed from Skyrim and Fallout 4, I wish they hadn't added into Fallout 76, as combat is already a chore. This is made worse by the fact that you need to access your Pip-boy to switch weapons if one breaks. This is also an issue when you run out of ammo and need to switch weapons. As this is a multiplayer game, the game does not pause while you're in a menu, meaning as you're scrolling through your Pip-boy, which is still a pain to navigate, the enemies are still hitting you.

In addition to all those reasons for combat being awful, weapons and armor are now level-gated like an MMO. It makes sense for World of Warcraft to prevent a level 1 player from equipping an item that gives stat bonuses meant for a level 120 character, it doesn't make sense for Fallout to have this as well, even in a multiplayer setting. This essentially forces the player to use the awful Pipe guns straight from Fallout 4 for the early game. This also leads to situations were you can't strap a metal bracer to your leg as armor because you're not a high enough level, which is just plain silly.

In addition there is a microtransaction shop, complete with virtual currency and a scaling pricing system to buy this fake currency for in-game items. I don't know the exact exchange rate on these "Atoms," but as far as I can tell worthless outfits your character can wear will cost a few bucks each and odds are, you won't get much use out of them.

Out of room to say anymore.

    Do not buy.

This game also focuses on areas of the fallout franchise that were not fan favorites (shooting, looting and fetch quests) in a blatant attempt for Bethesda and, by extension, Zenimax to get a piece of the ‘games as a service’ pie and to provide the company with a reliable source of finance for years to come, through the overpriced ‘Atom Shop’. Furthermore, the games horrendous performance on anything that isn’t an Xbox One X, the platform this game was clearly built for if the fact that the first gameplay trailer was announced at the Microsoft’s E3 conference, hampers any real enjoyment possible in this game. As a huge fallout fan (played all of them, even tactics) and someone who ordered a collector's edition of FO76, I have to say this game is a joke and I'm glad I managed to sell my CE to get rid of it. I've played the so called B.E.T.A extensively on high end PC (by the way - 'great idea' Bethesda to release a beta 2 weeks before scheduled production release) and this is my review:

I've played the so called B.E.T.A extensively on high end PC (by the way - 'great idea' Bethesda to release a beta 2 weeks before scheduled production release) and this is my review:

    + it's a fallout game...kind of

    - abysmal performance and optimisation, outdated graphics, crashes across all platforms.
    - terrible reuse of an old single player game engine to patch together a shallow online experience
    - possible hacks, tons of bugs, easy exploits, terrible AI and pathing which leads me to believe that QA department in this company doesn't exist or they smoked crack while testing it
    - 24 people per server on a giant map. in 2018...
    - game tries to cater to PvE players even though there's no real PvE (robot NPCs, really?), end game doesn't exist
    - game tries to cater to PvP crowd when the combat system between players is totally neutered and really worthless.
    - and a lot of other issues there's no point in mentioning anymore

Bethesda should be ashamed of releasing a product in this state, regardless of the game design they had for this title.

If you need your Fallout dose, play one of the earliest titles with mods.
If you want a higher risk/reward survival sandbox PvP game, play Rust. It's growing very well and has a consistent user base with a lot of different server types. OR play Conan, or Ark. Or whatever else, just not this piece of crap.

PLEASE - DO. NOT. BUY. THIS
At least wait for a huge sale (it has already started) and then maybe check it out for yourself. Otherwise please, vote with your wallet and stay away from this piece of crap as far as possible.

Don’t buy this game. I preordered it for $200 cause I’m a die hard fan of the franchise but this game is a colossal **** bag and spit on the consumers. Buggy, terrible graphics, appalling frame rate, no npcs and dog **** combat. I’ve played 30 hours and It was a waste. If you want a good game go buy Read Dead Redemption because that game is worth every penny unlike this game.

Before I first played the game, I was hesitant on the lack of NPCs, but I found that I really didn't miss them, but the quests and story telling were not as compelling as the previous installments and I did not find myself with the same cravings to come back for more. What finally did it for me was the difficultly; it was either ridiculously easy or painfully impossible with no real balance in between. Consequently, I would find myself frequently shifting from being bored to incredibly frustrated. I did not mind the online component and thought it was a welcome change; however, it seems that the developers embraced every annoying aspect of online games and crammed them into Fallout 76. I would have preferred more content for Fallout 4 then this heaping pile of "potatoes" and I don't see how this game will be successful in the long term. As much as I like the Fallout series and despite the money and time I have spent on this game, I no longer want to play it... Expand

Don't believe all the BS that fallout fans are bombing this game simply because it's online, or they don't like the look of it without playing, or some other BS to assure you that only the crybabies are reviewing this game. The hate from people who have actually played this game is real, and OMFG is it deserved!

    Let's start with bugs:
You expect bugs from a BETA, right? Of course you do, it's a BETA! The problem is that not only are these bugs rampant and horrible, but the BETA didn't even have a month, and after full release the bugs are still here in the full glory! Pete Hines and his buddies at Bethesda have promised many more bugs to come, and this would be okay if we had a long early-access/BETA period, but the game is fully out already. To make things worse, Bethesda games being buggy has not only become a long running trademark, it has become their unofficial slogan.

    The story:
When you start the game, you wake up after the vault party and everyone is gone, so it makes sense that as you go about the vault that you feel late to the event and everyone left the vault without you. The problem is you will get this feeling throughout the entire fecking game... There is no more excitement in the story as you will never meet anyone from the billions of holotapes you are forced to listen to, and you will never encounter new and quirky characters who give you a new quest. It's recording after recording after recording after recording after recording after recording after recording. You won't be doing a quest and encounter a vault full of Gary clones, you won't have to make decisions that affect the story or quest, you won't get any real surprises.

The big issue for many, Human NPCs:
Without Human NPCs this game is dull and boring as hell. Almost 40 square Kilometres, and only 24 human players to fill it. Human players who usually treat this game as a full MMO. This means, don't care about interaction beyond friends and squad, story doesn't really matter, and Bethesda's stupid pipe-dream of everyone taking up the roles of human NPCs with stores and interactions is a joke. It's a nice idea, but was more of a lazy decision to rush out a game and have it so all the story is delivered via recordings. This won't work outside of private strict roleplay servers, and will *NOT* work on a massive map with not even 1 person per square Kilometre. The server capacity for this game is a joke as even early-access indie games such as Rust have more players on the servers. I mean 40 square Kilometres with only 24 people and no Human NPCs for a fallout game is just a terrible idea...

    General gameplay:
Ranged combat is sluggish, unoptimized, and just plain terrible in 3rd person. Unless you are shooting at long range, you will find aiming to be a pain with guessing how far to the side you have to aim in order to hit. Throwing knives are buggy even in 1st person at short range and with perfect line of sight to your target. Hit boxes frequently fail to connect with your attacks, and ranged attacks hitting seem to rely on RNG mechanics more than any other MMO I have played. The most exciting thing that is likely to happen during a trip is maybe a pack of glitchy dogs attack you. C.A.M.P is pathetically disappointing. All I do is move to one area, kill some mobs, and go to the next.

    Conclusion:
The way I see it, some people at Bethesda wanted to make another Fallout game, and they had a meeting. In that meeting person NO.1 said " We want to make money with this game, how do we go about doing that? Ideas, go!". Person NO.2 replied "Well one thing we could do is cut Human NPCs out of the game and have all quests delivered via recordings. Also server capacity should be limited to 24 people, the map should be stupid big, and let's fill the world with mobs and a few boss monsters". Person NO.1 "Sounds good, should rake in millions, who cares about what the fan-base really wants?!".

The weapons and armour have been expanded, nice survival mechanics. The graphics are great! I don't know why people are complaining about that, we don't need a giant leap in graphics for a game to be good. I loved Fallout 3 and NV graphics, and I loved the newer Fallout 4 graphics, and what Fallout 76 has isn't new, but it's just fine. The amazing map, with amazing locations to explore is fun to go about killing mobs and looting their corpses, but that's all you'll do...

This game is just a generic bare-bones explore and kill mobs MMO with Call Of Duty server player capacity, lot's of mind-numbing audio recordings, lot's of bugs to enjoy, grindy as hell mechanics, and 40 square Kilometres of beautiful boringness to explore and kill mobs for XP and measly cap rewards. This is just a bland lower player capacity MMO that isn't really an MMO, that has a fallout skin slapped on and blessed by Crinja, so that little Fortinte kids will want to play it

They didnt have to hire all these voice actors or program a lot of AI , or even really do much to the story. It is a very lazy cash grab and nothing more. the game is shallow and has no soul, it's a pew pew game with the same chores over and over with no cool or interesting NPCs ( no NPCs at all actually)...

If this was $20 I would tolerate but selling a multiplayer mode for $60 that uses almost all the assets from fallout 4 and hardly any of its own is ridiculous.. I dont know whats up with devs lately , it seems it's not about making great games anymore but to make a quick buck. . Gaming is no longer about pleasing the customer, it's about customers pleasing the companies only. We give all our hard earned money to these people so they can go to work and get away with doing a crappy job over and over again..

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. After playing this game for hundreds of hours, trying to find the 'fallout' in it, I've been greatly disappointed in the games many problems and embarrassing errors they should have fixed before putting this piece of work on the market (especially at a $60 price tag). There was really only 1 thing I found good about this game...and a lot bad.

Pros - game has great exploration; graphics are perhaps above average for this era.

Cons - (1) interface is archaic - I have no idea who was overseeing the interface designer, but they should have been fired. From clunky combinations and multiple menus to get to something that should have only taken 1 to key combinations that conflict with others (such as exit power armor and inviting someone to your team, the interface of this game is simply embarrassing to say the least, especially for a company like Bethesda.
    (2) poor/ambiguous PVP elements - from having pacifist mode to being attacked by a high level player and having them whittle me away to nothing (though I am pacifist and don't want to PVP), I found their PVP system to be pretty much garbage. You either are making your game PVP and forcing others to PVP or you aren't. Make up your mind, Beth-tardesda. I personally don't care to PVP and I don't want to be forced into it. But they don't give any explanation of how PVP works. You just sorta have to find out when in game. and pray you've deposited all your scrap in your stash beforehand.
    (3) Bugs. Honestly, this game should be sueable simply by the amount of bugs it has--not just minor bugs--but game breaking bugs. Crash to desktop bugs, which happen regularly--to regularly to be acceptable. Perhaps every 30 minutes or more often. Lag bugs, where creatures are hitting you and/or you them when you've loaded an area, but you can't see anything. Glitch bugs where creatures arms/legs/body is distorted like 20 feet in the air when dead...or creatures being stuck under the ground during a settlement quest or other, making it impossible to finish the quest. The bugs and utter lack of quality assurance in this area break this game. I can take all the things I thought were nice about it and put them in the pot and piss on them. Because it doesn't matter how much of a 'good game' you could have had, if its so damn riddled with bugs it's unplayable. And that is what this game is. It's absolute garbage. I honestly hope they get sued and run out of business. Shame on them for releasing this game about 6 months sooner than it should have been.
With that said, I say, "no, No, NO!" Don't buy this. Don't even think of buying this. I wouldn't even buy it if it was on sale for $15. It's not even worth that. If they were to ever work out the bugs, the game still wouldn't pass with a 7. WHich brings me to my next con...
    (4) Balancing - I think they nerfed good loot. Haven't seen a decent weapon or armor piece in almost 2 weeks of continual farming. But besides that, you just don't get any good loot or bosses or anything like that at low level. From around L1-40, you're stuck trying to find events around the map and doing the main quests...and pretty much nothing else. No point in farming. There is nowhere to farm. No places, other than those wolf quests, to farm low level legendaries. And once you get 40-50 (and you could do it sooner, if you're careful or use power armor), you go to Whitesprings. But once you're there, that's about it. You level...and level....and do the scorch queen when it's up...and then go back to leveling at Whitesprings. Or maybe Watoga. End game in this useless game is a joke. 0/10 for End game.
WIth that said, don't waste your time on this game. Don't even buy it if it's on sale for $5.00. It will be the biggest waste of your $5 bill you ever did.

You walk around aimlessly for hours following quests which are so shallow it's almost painful, fetch quests are all the game has to offer you. Walk here, collect this, walk there collect that, shoot a few horrible animated, disgustingly buggy monsters, walk back to the robot hand in quest, get caps (currency) and repeat.
There is no characters in this game, a few robots that are so similar to each other you cannot tell the difference, no NPC to get invested in, no story or interesting dialogue to keep you pursuing and prodding further nothing. The game is unstable, server crashes, poor performance, so many bugs occur all of the time. The graphics are somehow worse than Fallout 4, it literally feels like a carbon copy of Fallout 4 but somehow downgraded, performs worse, over-saturated, horrendous texture resolutions, terrible animations, terrible post processing effects that blur out everything. You walk around seeing the world as if your face is inside a telescopic lens, everything is so zoomed in and claustrophobic, monsters can vanish from under your nose.
PVP is the most useless system in this game, you deal a small portion of damage to an enemy to initiate a "duel" however, the duel will not take place until the other player shoots you back. This leads to a situation where the other player can stack on all of the best gear, best weapons and kill you with the very same shot it took them to start the duel.
The game is void of anything, it is one of the most disgusting releases I have ever come across, it is such an insult to anybody that has paid £50 to play this unfinished, buggy, uninteresting, disgusting to look at, 50GB pile of dog.
    Do not buy.

The ocean drags you back and slowly drains your life while you struggle to survive. You will not survive, it is the worst game I have ever played. Do yourself a favor and stay away from this.

I'm utterly disgusted by the sheer shoddiness of this game and that Bethesda had the cheek to try and sell it for full price. Did no-one in the studio question whether it was shippable? I'm not sure what this was, Todd's LSD-induced idea, corporate demanding Fallout jump on the diseased bandwagon that is currently afflicting the rest of gaming or a feature that wasn't ready in time for F4 (and the studio demanded it get it's money worth). Hell, it was probably all three. Fact is though, it wasn't anywhere near up to scratch. Consumers are getting tired of this BS in AAA gaming and I'm glad they're voting with their wallets and writing negative reviews on-masse. Maybe our complaints will finally be listened to... but then again, when has this studio ever listened to us, really? Maybe they should just bite the bullet, sell the IP to whatever studio has the most ex-Obsidian employees and then maybe we'll get another gem like NV...

Crib notes version, if Todd is reading?
    - Consumers are tired of cashgrabs and half-finished games.
    - Microtransactions of any kind are CANCER.
    - Stop reusing assets just to bilk more money, yes I am talking about the reskinned skyrim dragon.
    - Fire your executive team, or sell the IP to a studio that actually cares.

Broken game, not worth the micro transactions they are hawking or the $60 bare minimum price tag. (assuming you were foolish enough to trust them on release) Cherry on top was the promised refund one day, and breaking that promise the next. This experience has taken me from disappointed with the game to being uncomfortable spending money on this publisher in the future.

I feel bad for those that pre-order and got the sets. I can take $60 loss but I would be super pissed if i played over $100 for their collector sets.

The game is basically a fallout 4 mod and a bad one at that.

This isn't an $80 AAA title.

I'd have been upset to have paid $20 for this as a DLC in the state it's in. It's an unfinished, poorly thought, buggy mess, hosted on unstable servers that constantly go down, using old assets from Fallout 4. Worst of all, the ultimately worthless online-only setup cuts out what made other Bethesda games great, which were the mods. Don't buy Fallout

Throughout that whole time no matter how much I enjoyed the game there was always one looming threat on the horizon, bugs and glitches.
I don't review this game poorly because I absolutely hate the game in its entirety, but the fact that every single Bethesda game has been a buggy mess that has had the support of the amazing community propping it up. That with the fact that most of the assets for the game were just ported over from Fallout 4, this feels like the Dark Souls Remastered (old cliche) of the Fallout series. The game itself doesn't add much from 4 besides the multiplayer aspect (as with DS R). That with the fact that the game barely runs compounded with the $60 price tag is pretty horrendous. I am just another voice in the crowd, but my complaints have their merits. This is a game that should have been half price to be even considered for purchase on launch. I do think that they can improve the game to a worthy standard, but the fact they released it in this state hasn't been seen since New Vegas.

As a survival game it fails, as a fallout game it fails, as an online game it fails. This game has nothing to offer anyone. Three dead giveaways of why this game screams 'shameless cash grab':

    1. Relies heavily on borrowed assets from other games. Mostly Fallout 4, (although scorchbeasts remind me a lot of Skyrim's dragons >_< ). 2. 2. No npc's means first and foremost a huge cut in production costs: no voice overs from contracted famous people, no motion capturing for their animations, no elaborate set dressing like homes and towns for them to live in, less money needed for writing compelling narrative, etc.

    3. Preorder to 'beta' (read: stress test for a very short while). AAA developers seriously need to stop doing that. The whole 'make preordering appealing for various reasons' strategy is about one thing only: making more money at a time when a product hasn't been held up to public scrutiny yet. For indy developers and start-ups, pre-ordering (based on sufficient information) is a great idea to fund new projects, but for AAA devs it's really bad practice and commonly used to sell subpar products solely based on their reputation and with very little information to go on.

I think this is a new low for Bethesda. I loved and played their games to bits since Morrowind, and I modded and cared for them, but I've seen inspired writing and immersive storytelling go down the drain since Oblivion (Obsidian's FO:NV being the only exception), like their ideas on how to run and control their games have take a turn for the worse with Creation Clubs and paid mods.

It saddens me as it seems they don't even understand the core aspects of what used to make their games so special anymore. The Fallout IP is turning into a parody of itself, rather than the refreshing parody of reality that it used to represent.

The pvp doesnt make sense, its badly designed.
The crafting system doesn't makes sense either because of the small limit of how much you can put in your base. Just a small house, worktables and a few turrets, nothing else because of the cap limit for construction.
If you are a crafter or hoarder, the game is unplayable, a few guns will leave you criplled permanently in the game, the weight limit is the worst thing for me.
If you want to save scrap theres no way to have many materials and good armors / weapons without permanently losing the fast travel, weight limit for the stash is dumb, not having a way to increasing it is worse.

Not only is Fallout 76 unrecognisable in its current state, but the good elements of Fallout are abandoned, and the worst parts enhanced; yes, the world is sprawling and verdant, but it feels... empty.

You can set off to the most remote parts of the map, exploring the lavish beauty of the Appalachian landscape, and you'll encounter nothing but endless waves of braindead, belligerent Scorched; hostile on sight, they offer no dialogue, simply muttering unintelligibly and proceeding to put up the most meagre of fights. It's hard to feel challenged when your opponent dies in one or two shots.

The events you can participate in with other players are more of the same — go to the location, receive some spiel from a robot or radio signal about an area under attack, and then fight off waves of enemies, and receive some caps and mediocre loot. Is that the best this game has to offer?

Plus the respawn is INSANE. You can kill an enemy, wait 30 seconds, and watch as your foe reanimates in front of your very eyes. Immersion-breaking maybe, but what's worse is that it often makes looting large areas considerably difficult — and not the fun, challenging sort of "difficult", but the tedious kind. It shouldn't feel like a chore.

In summary, if you played Fallout 4 and thought "man, what this game needs is more Raiders to attack me on sight, even less of a storyline, no human NPCs or communities, and guns that break", then boy do I have the game for you!
