There were dozens of Dragon Ball games, but Xenoverse still managed to surprise me with fresh approach. It’s still primarily a fighting game, but the developers went for many features associated mainly with MMOs. [04/2015, p.56]

Xenoverse blurs the line between video game and anime. Despite a few issues, there’s tons of replay value here, and fans can finally fulfill their dream of putting themselves in Dragon Ball.

DBX is huge — it can entertain you for dozens, if not hundreds of hours. On the other hand, you have to be a big fan of the series to enjoy the game.

Combat system is great, so as is the costumization options, making builds and mix + matching skills/z-souls/equipement is awesome, it reminds me of the good old days of CoH/CoV build making time sinks, luv it, best game this year for me :)

    Pros
+Main storyline consists of all major stories for Dragon Ball Z and includes Battle of the Gods story - alongside the main story for the game
+Season Pass/DLC includes GT Saga (Story and characters) and Resurrection F Characters (SSGSS Goku, SSGSS Vegeta and Golden Frieza)
+Parallel quests that increase length of playthrough and also provides replay value due to item drops being like a MMO
+Create your own character out of five possible races: Human, Saiyan, Freiza, Maijin and Namekian. Choose gender and other aspects on the character
+RPG system that lets you grow character as you like alongside customizing appearance and moves
+A MMO like Hub World that allows you to interact with NPCs, to buy items and to do certain quests
+Single Lobby which shows you player characters standing/sitting in one place with the NPCs or Multi Lobby which allows you to interact with other players

    Cons
-Due to MMO aspects and RPG aspects, the game feels like a grind at times
-AI allies at times can be useless and AI enemies can sometimes overpower you especially when you are outnumbered
-You can only do offline 1 on 1 (or other fights) via a NPC in the hub world, there is no specific menu for it
-Resetting stats requires you to collect Dragon balls which can be time consuming and requires grinding
-Animations look awkward at times and visuals look dated for a game that was released in 2015

However the game is a ton of fun. New DB content, it isn't the greatest content, but it is new DB content. The character customization is pretty cool, I made a semi-accurate Chrono from Chrono Trigger so that made me happy. The hair is a little off, but I'll live.

Took me 3 days of heavy play to complete all the content, for a fighting game that is pretty significant.

A lot of stuff in the game are good ideas that are poorly implemented, like Tokitoki City. The hub city that you get everything from, it is only 3 small sections and could easily be one big section and in it you can't dash or fly, that is lame. The masters randomly spawn making it a pain to find them, but the idea of masters is cool.

The game has a lot of bad super obvious grammatical errors in the subtitles, also subs that don't match the words. I noticed in the ending credits the entire QA team was Indian, I am gonna assume that is why they didn't catch these things. It is pretty lazy on their part.

Some really cool battles, and some really infuriating ones. Any protect quest sucks as your AI basically runs in, does no damage, and gets owned. AI counterparts serve as nothing but meatshields, so when you have to protect a meatshield that is tedious. I do enjoy the difficult endgame quests though, fighting 3 on 1s against sets of SSJs and powered up villains.

If the game was more polished it would be a 10, but they got lazy with a lot of the things.

Well, chalk this as the 2nd worst DB game right after Ultimate Tenkaichi imho considering they had no technology limitations this time...

    - Clunky battle mechanics, no skill involved at all. Characters are slow to Guard, you can't interrupt your attack to suddenly block, the pace is all over the place from fast to slow to "why the **** is my character taking 2-3 seconds (literally) to turn around and face the enemy that just blew past me/dodge/changed lock to?"
    - Lock-on is downright annoying, in fact it's a struggle to even face the opponent the right way. If you face the wrong way and keep mashing buttons, you will continue to attack that way until you stop, after you stop for 2-3 seconds, your character will finally turn. No words to describe...
    - Controller bindings are unintuitive. Block on LB, who the **** thought that was a good idea? Separate button for Vanish/Teleport.... seriously? L3 to descend and A(Xbox) or X(PS) to ascend, wtf? In some places you use A to interact while in others you use B, cos **** consistency?
    - Limited amount of skillsets. You can only have 4 Supers (including Rushes and Utility), 2 Ultis (Transform/Powerups are Ultis) and 1 Ulti Escape/Interrupt thingie. So you learn all the techniques in the world but you can only use 7, cos **** logic.
    - Less combos than ever and every character has the same ones but with different animations
    - No signature moves per character. Like seriously, I get this game is made around the idea of Customizable characters, but each race should have at least have 1 signature move... They have unlockable ones for certain races, but guess what, Frieza race doesn't have any specific ones for some reason (looked through all), while most of the Human/Saiyan ones are cross compatible with all races.
    - The scouter item discovery is badly implemented. Sends you to 1st Person but you don't have time to look around in a fight at all, plus you can't fly fast or run when using it.
    - The free roam area is incredibly stupid and I want to expand on this a bit: you can jump but there's nothing to jump over as you get stuck on every object you would try to jump over Eg. bench, you can't fly for some stupid reason, you can't run for a reason beyond stupid, the drawdistance is pitiful at most so everything just looks like a rough sketch until you get up close, the whole free roam area basically shouldn't exist, it would of just been easier to make an interface which would spare us a lot of time wasting. (This is on PC as well! I dread to think what it looks like on consoles!)
    - Dialogues are a bleeding pain to all my sense (except smell probably)
    - Only Saiyans have transformations for some reason, even though I can think of 100s of ways of making all classes transform. Eg. Buu transform can be easily narrated in using those time distorting guys to try to make him evil or something, Humans can unlock their potential to Mystic through the Supreme Kai of Time, Namekians can have like a choice to split bodies early on and have an AI bot do parallel bodyguard work and choose to merge at some point (easily narrated in), Frieza can just transform upon reaching certain levels. Point being, if I can think of ways to implement transformations for all of them, it can't be that damn hard to have been done.
    - Maps are still ******* small and there's virtually no destruction, apart from some very short lasting decals.
    - None of the Ki/Physical moves have any impact behind them and stamina is just a ridiculous inconvenience that could have just as well not existed and everything would have been fine.
    - NO POWER STRUGGLES??! WHY??? You clash with someone and you just get a little cinematic (which never changes btw) after which you just break up like a schoolyard fight and land away from each other. No analogue spinning, button mashing, head-nodding, nothing...
    - Don't even get me started on the item drops. The side quests (Parallel Quests or PQs) say the drop these good powers and armor, but in truth, they are random drops. A small search on the Internet will tell you how many people haven't got the Raditz armor promised in one of the first PQs even after doing it 10 times or more.
