I almost did not buy the game, because of all the negativity out there....
But I have to say, I really like the game, it is so great and completly underrated!
And I found it to be in many ways (not in all) bether than Origins.

What makes this game great are companions, game play, variety of weapons, classes, talents. Story is good but feel like too much pushed to be center of universe. It is bit worse than DA:O, it is faster and lost feel of turn-based strategy. Don't know why but i love this game anyway.

Perfect animation and artistic design in general.
Fun combat system, especially if you play at nightmare difficulty.
A lot of difficult enemies that give the opportunity for tactical planning.
Great character development system, (although a bit confusing).
Probably the best looking armors, another solid 11 out if 10.
Great written characters. Companions, enemies that feel absolutely real and engaging.
Beautiful and huge world with uniquely designed areas (It's a shame they're not immediately connected to each other, that would make the game shine)
Con: invasive HUD (contextual isn't enough) - doesn't give choice to fully customize and immerse yourself in the beautiful world the developers created.

It definetly deserves more than one gameplays.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. DAI, my second favourite game after Fable3, It's beautiful, but needs a great computer for running, or improve your own one like I did, its story is well writting and each caracter have its own personality. Takes long hours to finish one game completely, around 170 hours.

You can explore big (very big) locations, interact with many caracters and discover the history of Ferelden and ''Orleais''.

Also we can ride a horse (or a lizard).

I saw the user reviews and was appalled at some of the things said of this game. The dialogue and the characters are diverse and appropriate for a game that deals with so many things like racism and addiction. Bioware should be applauded for that. Now, every character is not a super model, but should they be? No, you should be attracted to Solace for his intelligence and thoughtfulness, to Sera for her childishness and yet still amazing competence and simple wisdom. I could go on, but every character was unique and, if they had a pretty face or not, had a real personality. Further, They each interacted with the world and each other and the inquisitor in interesting ways.

Now, I agree that the controls could be better, and the abilities were limited, but I mitigated that by learning to deal with it (Planescape: Torment, anyone?) which has it's own charm, anyway, and then by using lots of passive abilities. I looked for interesting combos and blah blah it's not important. Not a perfect game, particularly in the system aspects, and the GIGANTIC amount of collectibles, but its a direction I want to see them refine and improve and continue to GET RIGHT.

And can I say, They surprised me with some things, and I was even mistrusting of mages because that's what Dragon Age teaches you to do with mage companions, and this is a feat I truly appreciate in well written video games.

Very good game. Bioware clearly listened to feedback from DA2 and made some significant improvements. In DA Inquisition, you just need to pick and choose what side quest you want to do (you don't have to do them all - it can become tedious after a while). The relationships are very good, but not as in depth as in DA Origin and some romance are better than others. As a female player, it's the first time I enjoyed playing as a male warrior (I made him an alpha-male Templar, addicted to lyrium!). But I also had a blast as a female rogue (one word : Cullen!) Solid and interesting RPG game with an entertaining story, interesting characters, good gameplay, and very nice graphics and animations.
    There are minor technical flaws.
Also, the simplification of the combat system with only 4 ability cells seemed to me an unjustified solution.
But overall it's a solid good game.

I can understand being annoyed by some of the bad stuff (like the banter between some team members can be just plain stupid and irrelevant to the action - seems very sloppy for the developers who brought us Mass Effect), but the good far, far, far outweighs the negatives. Don't be a hater, just don't get it. I, on the other hand, am thoroughly addicted. Oh, and by the way, this is a billion times better and more stable than that POS Assassins Creed Unity. Expand

And the gameplay... well, it's okay. Gameplay/mechanics is mildly fun and the game doesn't crash. But magnificent world design/graphics/writing make up for this. 8/10

The story & cast of characters is the real strong points in Inquisition, while Varric was the stand out character from DA2 he seems the most bland here, they did a great job with the list of companions this time around. While the game allows you to continue playing after the main story line is completed i feel far more compelled to start over with a new party set up then run around the various maps completing mundane side quests and collecting shards. The shards are blatant and unnecessary filler, the game would genuinely be better off without this lazy, generic level design. Bioware usually set the standard, its a real shame to see them follow it here.IF shard collection was to be removed tomorrow then i cant imagine a single complaint would be made or a single tear would be shed. Now that i'm finished the main story i want to start over and use a different party set-up rather than continue and search for mosaic pieces and shards. The voice acting is top notch, the music and sound effects all do deliver as well. Dragon fights feel epic but can be disorienting if you are controlling a melee character, its very easy to lose yourself under a wing or the dragons head. The environments are visually incredible and the character creator is very detailed. If i could offer one criticism is the meagre amount of hair choice's but otherwise its fantastic. Its hard to say much more without risking spoilers but overall this is a great RPG that has a few less that desirable traits (camera controls for one) that stop it from knocking Origins of its perch from best in the series. It has a few bugs, nothing game breaking that i discovered but these should be remedied in upcoming patches. Overall i recommend it, you will find yourself frustrated at times but it has so much going for it you ill overlook these imperfections. Expand

I'm loving the game, but I'm starting with the bad because it's easier to complain than it is to compliment:

Combat mechanics have never been Bioware's strong point, and I've continued enjoying their games in spite of that since Baldur's Gate, but it's worse than usual here. Thankfully, after a few hours, I became comfortable enough with the controls that it never became a deal-breaker.

The controls are bad. The left-click to swing mechanic is a bizarre design decision that impacts your ability to control your character throughout the rest of the game. Being limited to eight abilities sucks; after a certain point, advancing my character starts to feel like wasted effort, because I can't actually use any of my new abilities without giving up the ones I've already earned. Animation-locks on attacks and abilities are painfully long which, combined with the character turning and accelerating slowly, makes me feel like I'm never truly in control of my character.

The tactical camera is nearly useless. I use it to make my party avoid dragons' fireballs, and that's it; any more interaction than that is just begging for frustration.

One of the pre-release reviews I read said Bioware had "hilariously overcorrected" for the small and reused areas in Dragon Age 2. This is pinpoint-accurate. Dragon Age 2 had a small footprint, but the quest content in that footprint was actually very well-focused and well-executed. DAI made their areas massive, and then tried to stuff the same area:content ratio into that space. They bit off way more than they could chew. The vast majority of things to do in DAI are MMO-style throwaway fetch/gather quests. It's like they used SWTOR as a model for sidequest building instead of a cautionary tale. I had a huge disappointment last night with a massive quest that had me running back and forth across an entire (huge) desert for hours, and I found nothing but an empty room with a chest of loot as my payoff.

Attention Bioware: quality over quantity next time. The best sidequest I can think of would have been the weakest sidequest in DA2.

I spent a lot of time trying to figure out how to make my character walk instead of run. Turns out it's not possible, which is baffling.

Those are the negative things I have to say. In spite of those complaints, I'm enjoying the game immensely.

Companion interactions are the best they've ever been. I absolutely love all of the new characters (save one whose entire personality consists of being completely poised at all times and calling me "dear" a lot). Seeing the way characters from DAO and DA2 have developed, and helping them along in that development, is incredibly gratifying. If you enjoy going back to camp, the Normandy, or the Hanged Man to talk to your companions, you'll love it in DAI.

I like the crafting system a lot. The level of customization in both appearance and stats is surprisingly good. Finding recipes has been a challenge, which is either good or bad depending on the type of player you are.

The world is gorgeous. The graphical quality itself is solid, but the attention to detail is excellent. I have lots of peeves with the little details in every game I play, but none of them are present here. Except the hair. The hair sucks. The areas themselves are big and beautiful. Each companion having distinct styles for their various sets of armor was a great touch.

In spite of the MMO-style sidequests, the main storyline is fantastic, and all the companion quests have been good. There are big, tough choices, several of which I can't wait to explore the other side(s) of.

This game is far from perfect, but it easily comes out on top. Some of the problems will hopefully be solved by patches and mods. The biggest problem is the handling of sidequests. If you can suppress your completionist streak long enough to avoid completing every single quest you run across, you'll have fun.

Good game. Easily worth buying, even if I wish they'd done some things differently.

Now for the positives. This is an excellent game. I felt like I have all the times I have played DAO. There is not only a lot to do but a ton of little nice touches. Even the lesser NPCs have interesting moments. Despite having 144hrs playtime, I was no where near finishing everything.

It started nicely, loved the graphics and voice acting, the intro story wasn't well told but whatever, let's keep going. After 3 or 4 hours the game turned into Assassins Creed 1. Super repetitive. Close the demon gates, button mash the bandits with my fighter, collect items scattered in the map, and, for the other 4 hours, no interesting cutscenes or dialogs. It is filled with those kind of collect 50 stones, skulls or whatever scattered all along the map missions just to say: Hey, you have more than 250 hours of playtime. F that man.

And the camera... What a mess... Such a bad port... I don't know if it is better for the consoles, but it completely ruins the action and even the map exploration.

I should learn to wait for user reviews and never, ever, ever pre-order again. I just don't know why the media is giving so many positive reviews.

I played this game for its narrative and game play, and by God does it deliver! The story so far is pretty impressive and the choices you do make matter. For example, a small one shall suffice. I was in the Hinterlands after around 5-6 hours playing, and I come across a castle by chance. Inside was a cult of Andraste, who were having issues with demons. I helped the cult out and they pledged to join my Inquisition. I headed back to camp, and they were there. Another example is when I was doing an odd quest in Redcliffe village around 10-16 hours in the game and I came across a woman who needed help with potions. I told her she should join my group, and again when I arrived back a few hours later, she was at my camp helping refugees. These two examples are small, but I've used them so people can actually ignore what some jumped up techno-warriors are complaining about when they feel disappointed on release that it's buggy after only playing maybe 5-6 hours; hell, neatly every game I've played had some sort of problem on release ( that's excluding mmos)

Once you get passed the techno-issues, the game itself is actually great.

Is it worth a 10? No, but it's damn good. Clearly they have not progressed past the incredibly large first area where yes, there is that element of MMO-esque quests; which are entirely optional. The game is huge, freaking huge and there are a *lot* of quests. Most of them are great, too. People are focusing on one aspect of it and demonizing the entire game without a fair chance. And I mean, seriously, wtf, I have seen "0" given out over reviews of reviews. People are freaking reading the reviews, and then giving the game a "0" based on the reviews without playing like a giant "0" star review circle jerk. LOL come on, then they negatively review anyone that gives positivity

To give it a "0" is ludicrous, but people are throwing it out like candy out of sheer ignorance.

    My Scores:
    Replayability: 7
    Graphics: 8
    Scenery: 8
    Story: 8
    Fun: 9

It made me giggle like a school girl, laugh and cry. There are emotional moments, and there are great moments. People *cannot* judge this game so quickly down the drain, because they haven't even SCRATCHED the surface of what it truly is, and most likely have not even progressed past the areas enough to see the potential and fun. The very first area, the hinterlands alone, I have 13 hours logged in and I'm not even close to finishing, I left it to do the story quests. It's that large; but it's those quests people are complaining about. You literally do not have to do the MMO quests if you hate them, they are side quests FFS.

There are bugs, and there are glitches. But holy crap, the game came out like yesterday. And if you are complaining about DRM, you're a pirate and need to GTFO with that weak sauce, this one won't be cracked soon, sorry and get over it

    Negatives:
UI is sketchy for PC and needs work
having to hold mouse button to attack takes getting used to
    Bugs, ofc

Much better than no.2, this Dragon Age is a little off from being an RPG masterpiece. The reasons ? Bad camera angles, inability to bind mouse buttons, not good enough team management and most of all... the awful searching and looting system !!! But even with these issues, I enjoyed playing it !

My first review was really negative, that was 2 years ago. Recently I gave it another try and enjoyed it. Been playing 70 hours so far and will enjoy as many side quests, fights and views as possible before I finish the main quest.

I honestly want to give this game a 10/10, but I cannot due to the lack of thought given to PC controls and the random crashes during cutscenes. The game is magnificent otherwise and truly a masterpiece. It really blows my mind that simple effort was not put into the PC control scheme. No auto attack and automatic move to when trying to loot baffles me, as it is simple to implement.

No it is not. The combat system is to focused on button mashing rather than the classic tactical gameplay that helped set origin apart from it's competition. Is it an other Dragon age II ? Is it an other Dragon age II ? Thank fully no... It's better in everyway. You're not stuck in one specific city with day and night cycles, the game opens up very well and invites you to explore (Though you will need a couple of hours to get to that point). Characters and story are also strongly improved so far (i haven't finished it yet).

It has a few bugs there and there but nothing game breaking and they are very far few in between.

So far my only real complaint is the combat system. It's not that it's badly done, but it's unoriginal and not that exciting. I guess we can blame consoles for this one as Origins didn't work well on them because tatical games don't work well on console plateforms, so they chose to make this button mashing slam fest to appeal to the console audiance.

It's a shame, because the combat system in origin was really special. This one is just boring and generic.

Note : Don't pay attention to the meta score, many Zeros are from trolls who haven't really played the game or idiots who expected Skyrim.

As usual Bioware has good plot and character writing, and from what I've seen I think they hit a sweet spot between introducing new characters and using characters from previous games. As tends to be the case, some characters were very interesting and loveable, while others were frankly annoying or kinda boring, but that could just be a matter of taste. I did feel that it fell a little flat though trying to balance the main character between the very open approach of Origins and the extremely restrictive approach of DA:II--you can choose the race, sex, appearance, and voice of your character, but it doesn't affect the story (even the intro sequence, as in Origins) in any significant way, and your character's background story is never developed and is pretty much irrelevant to the story. I very much liked the vast open-world approach, with its many different environments and visual themes, especially after DA:II forced us to play in the most confined, dull, copy-pasted environments ever. I also liked the introduction of armor/weapon crafting, which is great for players who like to tinker with that sort of thing and maximize their stats, while still being entirely optional, for players who don't want to bother. Likewise I enjoyed the customizable base, but felt that Bioware was pretty arbitrary with what it allowed you to customize: for example, you have over a dozen choices for curtains, window glass, beds, etc. but you cannot customize your casual attire, which is boring as hell, nor can you ever actually finish repairs on the castle--even once you're the most powerful person in the realm, apparently you can't get someone to fix holes in the wall or clean up debris completely. My major complaint for the game, and one that really bothered me throughout the game was the big changes to battle mechanics, UI & controls, and character's skills/attributes/tactics. First, unlike previous games you don't have an auto-attack, so you must hold down a button to continue to attack, which can make other tasks (like selecting enemies) difficult. You also must manually maneuver from enemy to enemy, and you can't 'lock on' to enemies as in previous games, so its often difficult to make sure you're attacking the right enemy, and if you're a melee fighter, positioning correctly can be a huge pain. There are also many changes to battle mechanics, such as the absence of healing spells and the introduction of barriers and guard for defense, lack of sustained abilities, non-regenerating health, etc. Most of these aren't necessarily bad, but they do take some getting used to. Second, and worst of all, is the UI, which was clearly designed with consoles, not PCs, in mind. The quest tracker blocks a significant portion of the screen, which is especially annoying given the huge beautiful environments. The action bar is limited to only 8 ability slots, which is incredibly frustrating as you will end up learning plenty of abilities that you won't be able to actually use, since they're not on the bar. Moreover, your companions can likewise only use abilities on their action bars, so they too are very restricted on what they can do. The tactical overhead view, which was a very helpful part of Origins and even DA:II is practically useless in this game: the camera is awful and companions don't like to actually do what they're told, and with so few abilities to choose from, your tactical options are very limited anyways. Lastly, the ability/attribute system is somewhat different than previous games, and not for the better in my opinion. Much like DA:II your skills are organized intro various 'trees' (more like webs) of talents, but unlike DA:II here some are for new abilities that you can use, while some are just stat increases (e.g. +1 to cunning, +25% armor penetration). Ultimately you'll end up choosing abilities that you won't ever use (because of the action bar limit) just to get to a stat increase. This is also due to the fact that, unlike previous games, you don't get additional attribute points when you level up to spend as you like, but only through spending your 1 point per level on the ability tree, or through gear. I was rather unhappy about this, especially before I had the means to make whatever gear I wanted, because it meant that my character was effectively only able to increase 2 stats. As a rogue, I got cunning and dexterity bonuses from the skill tree, but I had no option to put points into say constitution, so that I wouldn't be so squishy in melee. To me this seems like an unnecessary restriction of player choice & customization in an RPG. In the end, I would recommend this game, and I'm sure players new to the franchise would not feel many of the same frustrations that I did, but Inquisitions falls short of being truly spectacular due to some of these flaws. I had high expectations for this game and in many ways it is very well crafted game. Unfortunately, you will feel lost in the content of the game and the game will never suck you in, like Mass Effect games does for example. Still, it is a good game and but getting back to it feels like a chore.

The entire game itself, the components is very good... all put together however if feels like one of those insane American burgers with everything. Even if you still can taste the ingredients, it becomes impossible to eat.

Simplify, simplify, simplify. Not "add more, add more, add more". The game is truly gigantic and has some wonderful moments... but just so much it loses focus.

What this game needed before release was an editor who simply struck out all the bits that don't add to the game.

Don't get me wrong, I like the game... but I would have preferred a more streamlined experience. Be able to walk more in a straight line, not have to fly hither and thither like a butterfly because of all the forced in content.

Would I recommend the game? Definitely... I just wish it had been even better in the classic style rather than the Ubisoft style of piling in more and more collectibles to keep kids attention.

At it stands, I find the game highly decent BUT not excellent or a master piece. Bioware has done worse but it also had done far better. For RPG lovers, this is the best game out right now... but of course it is also the only game out right now. I am well satisfied but as an RPG fan, I also take what I can get.

The face-posing definitely is not as good as the previous or Mass effect series but I'm not surprised due to changing engines. The game also has a few bugs and issues that have caused me to die 3 times and also redo a 40 minute mission from start. The game also has crashed on me a few times. The game also doesn't close as seamlessly as it should (if you play BF4 you'll know what I mean).

But the above issues have only been minor nuisances to someone like me and I really do feel like this is one of the true "next-gen" games that have been released. Graphics and environments are beautifully crafted, game play is SOLID. I have Far Cry 4 and I haven't even started playing it yet because of how bad I want to play this.

I felt like a lot of games sucked this year (I was thinking I was losing interest in gaming due to getting older) but this game reminds me of why I love to play!

If you don't have a good enough PC you will feel the pain. How can you lose if Origin offers a money back guarantee, unheard of in this industry. I highly recommend it.

Cassandra is a pretty short haired lassie with a French accent that I saw interrogating the beardless dwarf Varric in Dragon Age 2. I find myself her prisoner, but not for long because in a blink of the eye I am on my way back towards the rift I dropped out from. It was now a lot bigger as it is expanding and has become a huge hole in the sky where dangerous things spill out off.

I am inflicted by a magic that affects rifts and Cassandra figures that I might try the magic on that big one in the sky. So she forces me up some mountain paths at sword point, where we fight demons that pop out of smaller rifts, pick up some companions and soldiers on the way to finally confront a big dude of a demon emerging from the big rift. A hefty battle occurs which I am bound to win, for this is just the introduction to the game. Or better: the preliminary introduction.

When I wake I find myself in Haven and then and there the story starts for real. Bummer! The big hole isn't closed that easily, instead it is merely stabilized. Now it is up to me to figure out how to close it. And that is the hero quest. For the first part of the game that is. For even this is just the introduction.

An odd hundred hours of gameplay later I think I can safely give an evaluation of the game.
The game can be done in two ways. You either take the short route, which blows you through the main storyline in under thirty hours, or you take that long route, by exploring the expansive world of Ferelden.

For this you are provided with cool looking war table where you, together with three advisers, plan the campaign of the Inquisition, an impromptu organization that Cassandra calls into being and you become the leader off. First unofficially, later officially. The game throws you a castle somewhat further into the story.

The first area, the hinterlands, is expansive and kept me busy for quite some time, but it turned out there are at least nine more, varying from small to large, but non as huge as the first one. Each has a certain uniqueness to it. There is a blistering desert, a dark foreboding swamp, a rocky stormy coast(called aptly: the storm coast) and a snowy landscape.. It isn’t all unique, there are overlaps and sometimes certain things get repeated, but it nevertheless immersed me in a world and gave me lots to do: even just closing the smaller rifts is a massive undertaking. There are also attempts at variance, by introducing mini games like creating constellations by drawing lines between stars, which gives you access to special equipment.

There are also the typical fedex games, where you have to collect things ad nauseum to the point that you start to scream in frustration because sometimes there seems to be no end to them, or the things are so hard to find or even worse: to get at, yes: to get at, because they are on places that are very difficult to reach.

The music and sounds are very good and support the storyline and add to the mood.

In all I found it a well done immersive game world.

    But…

DA III has probably the most unimaginative story of the three DA games. It is basically DA I retold. There is a big evil that threatens the world, you have some kind of unique quality that allows you to deal with said evil and it is up to you to create an alliance out of the forces that are more concerned with their own selfish goals than with the obvious threat to the world.

So it comes down to the way the story is being told: the narrative. And this is even worse. DA III has a flood of characters. So many that they bloat the narrative. Next to nine companions you also have three advisers with all of them having their own storyline and background. And because DA III also wants to wrap up some loose ends characters of the other games make an appearance as well: Flemeth, Morrigan and the hero from DA 2. And to compound the bloated narrative even more, they threw in a plethora of evil adversaries, allies and sideshows. Everything provided with a background story that remains skin-deep and never makes you care.

But worst of all is the big evil adversary himself: Corypheus. Where a game should provide us with an evil that dominates the game and thwarts the hero’s plans every step of the way, we get a run of the mill baddie who lacks in background, personality and panache. His appearance might have been an attempt to make him terrifying, but in all scenes my twiggy elf remained unfazed by this wanna-be god. He isn’t scary, menacing or even impressive.

All in all this is a game that will provide you with a lot of entertainment if you like a massive world with lots to do and see, but as a story it is unremarkable and will have no lasting impression due to the bland story, bloated narrative and unremarkable adversary.

Perhaps a wise lesson can be learned: less is more.

I think that if they had spent a little less time creating up SO many things to do in the world and redirected that effort into making those fewer things to do more meaningful, the game could have been one of the finest action-RPGs of its generation.

I see a lot of weird conservative reviews citing disgust for the LGBT promotion, and... it's actually a little bit hard to defend the game in this case. I'm pretty liberal, and I was cringing a lot at some of the gender & sexuality mini-lectures they snuck into the dialogue. Come on, Bioware. You're not going to change anyone's mind by preaching. Just let us meet new characters and make up our own minds about them. Leaving that aside, I still believe that an over-compensation for typical character archetypes is better than falling into the archetypes themselves--so, it could have been worse.

As a PC gamer, I found the port to be tolerable, if only just. It certainly beats Dark Souls. I have a powerful machine, and the game looks spectacular on maxed settings--especially the environments. A lot of work was put into this game, and it deserves to be played.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Given the negative player response to both Dragon Age 2 and Mass Effect 3, BioWare needed a game to answer its critics and prove that they are still the best in the business when it comes to RPGs. I will not criticize Mass Effect 3 as it is one of my favorite games despite the unsatisfying ending, but I will gladly criticize Dragon Age 2 which I felt was a dreadfully poor game and a terrible follow up to Dragon Age: Origins. BioWare needs Inquisition to breathe life back into the series.

So how did BioWare do in the latest edition to the franchise? One of the chief complaints to DA2 was the use of recycles maps. There can be no such complaints in this area with Inquisition, the game is huge! Each area is feels unique and has a certain history behind it. While the large environments are fantastic to explore there is a downside to it which I will detail later. The soundtrack to game is also excellent.

Another great aspect of Inquisition is the characters. BioWare has a talent of creating interesting and memorable characters and Inquisition didn't disappoint. There are nine characters to join the party as well as having three advisors with whom you can chat and learn about. Varric returns together with Cassandra and I think they are my two favorite characters. All characters were well written and had interesting back stories. The voice acting is once again incredible.

Combat has improved from the over the top flashy mess that was DA2. The talent trees were fantastic and the battles could be challenging. I found that I often had to abandon an area which I could not defeat the enemies given my low level/poor equipment. I must give huge kudos to BioWare for the battles with the Dragons in the game! Each dragon was amazing and it was a sight to behold first seeing them in flight. The dragon in the Hinterlands and the one on the Storm Coast were in particular breathtaking!

The party camp system has changed again. Inquisition characters have their own special place within the Skyhold fortress and which you can approach them and engage them in dialogue. Skyhold itself is huge and impressive! I do think that I have yet discovered all there is to it and it is tremendous fun exploring it. It has taken me a while to figure out how to find the characters given its size and many pathways.

Given the lack of customization options in DA2 BioWare had to make changes in Inquisition. This time the player is offered a ton of customization options from weapons and armor and even changes to Skyhold itself! All of this allows the player to freedom to shape things to their own choice.

While there are plenty of positive points to Inquisition there are of course some negative aspects to the game which I think detracts it from being a truly outstanding game. Firstly the controls on PC are clumsy and can get a bit irritating. Yes it is possible to re-map the controls but it doesn’t complete solve the problems. The option of clicking an area in the distance and having your character move to there is gone. Also loot gathering is a bit of a chore again as the game requires you to be right up close to the loot to get it. Also characters failed to understand the importance of the Hold Position command. The tactical camera once again makes an appearance in the series but it was terribly done! I wanted to use the tactical camera to explore the surround but Inquisition purely uses it for combat purposed. Firstly it didn’t pull up high enough to get a decent view of the surrounds and secondly the controls made it very difficult to navigate with. Apart from the battles with the various dragons I ended up not using the tactical camera. While the game has these vast and beautiful areas to explore I felt that this ended up being a distraction from the main story. The game does not force you to do things in a hurry (for which I am grateful) but while spending hours if not days in the vast maps I think the main story kind of got forgotten in the background. Much of the exploring takes place in unpopulated areas which makes the world seem a bit empty. The main storyline was ok but I think it still doesn’t compare to that of the Witcher 2.

On the whole I think that Inquisition is a solid game. There are definitely areas for improvement but I think this game does prove that BioWare is listening to their fans. There are many wonderful qualities in the game and it is easy to spend over 60+ hours playing. It is definitely value for money! I do not think however that the game itself will be enough to convince those players who felt burnt after DA2 and ME3 that BioWare can produce the best games.

I think every class has a large number of useless or underpowered talents. Also building your character is somewhat limited compared to 1 and 2. Almost all ability points come from gear. Oh... and the character creator has TERRIBLE hair options, no size and weight feature. The romance options for straight male RPGers are limited and very very weak choices. In fact they are so weak, you may want to go celibate or romance the funny mage.

The positives... Its a HUGE game with some pretty interested characters and an interesting story. The graphics are very good, the gameplay is good, the crafting is good, tons of quests and the changing atmospheres are very nice (dessert, snow, coast and forest). I like all the different elements that they added (multiplayer, updated crafting, the war room, influence perks). The dragon fights can be loooong epic battles.

In the end, the pros outweigh the slight cons. While the cons might outnumber the pros, the pros are much stronger reasons to play rather than the cons keeping someone away.

The story is one of Bioware's weaker ones, though it is leaps and bounds beyond the atrocity that was Dragon Age 2. It was generally intriguing and provided fascinating snippets of lore that excited me, as a fan of the series's backstory and world. It does well in the aspect of conveying the sense that you are the leader of a world changing organisation, however it is poorly paced. The first 15 hours of the game blaze by at a lightning fast pace, only to have the plot slow to a crawl after reaching Skyhold, and without all of the side quests and companion quests, the game is rather short, and the ending is one of the most anticlimactic endings I have seen in a game for years. Even the final assault on the Citadel Beam in Mass Effect 3 was more intense, until the last 10 minutes of that game of course. Dragon Age Inquisition ends without much resolution to many of the problems the people of Thedas have faced for centuries. All it does is provide a slideshow detailing the outcome of the Mage-Templar war, which is unsatisfying to say the least. The story does provide several stand out moments, most notable the mission where you are sent to gain the help of the Rebel Mages, as well as several others that cannot be mentioned without spoiling the game.

Despite all my criticisms of the main plot, the rest of the game is extremely well presented. The visuals look gorgeous, the new vast landscapes and environments to explore look like they've been lifted straight out of a medieval painting. Sound design and voice acting are excellent as well. The characters are humorous and well written, party banter is hilarious, especially with Dorian in the party. The numerous crafting and customization options really make you feel as though your character is truly your own, something which Dragon Age 2, and the Mass Effect series struggled to achieve. Combat is intense and frenetic, the sound of crackling spells and flying arrows coupled with brightly coloured damage numbers popping over the screen provides a satisfying combination that is both enjoyable and challenging.

Dragons are one of the major selling points of the game. Their behaviour has been completely overhauled, not longer do they feel like one of many bosses sitting at the end of a long corridor, but their dynamic movement and interaction with the environment they live in truly brings them to life, and the fights themselves outdo any attempt to portray these massive scaled creatures in any other game(Yes Skyrim, I'm looking at you).

Overall, Bioware failed to deliver on their promise of a truly dynamic world, much of the content showed off at the PAX and E3 demos were cut from the final release, presumably due to hardware limitations, which is a real shame, however what we got in the end was no less than any of their previous efforts, excluding the 100 hours of side content, we still get a 40 hour long game filled with everything that makes a Bioware RPG what it is. Despite its shortcomings, Dragon Age Inquisition gets you more than your money's worth, and is a great game.

Little Details like hidden lookouts on top of some mountain made me smile. Im one of the guys who tries to jump up every mountain, and in this game you get rewarded for it, sometimes. Only the camera in the strategical view is a pain in the ass. I consider using a mod to be able to zoom out higher. The spells feel very powerful, the lightings/thunderclaps and explosions sound cool, its fun to cast spells. The sound of the swords and armors is nice too. I like the SP and would give it a 8/10, compared to skyrim with a 9,5/10.

MP gets boring fast, the same few levels again and again. They say they are randomly generated every time, but that doesnt matter, the style is the same every time, you dont feel any difference. And there is no character customisation in MP, just trough the equipment. The given character models look ugly (in MP, in SP you can create your own). Most people use "just damage" skillsets, so you die at the Endboss if you didnt get a good tank and healer (barriercaster), sometimes there are 4 DD in a group, you can instaleave then. The Endbosses are the same every time. They dont look special or powerful or mighty, they hit very hard, and are a little bit bigger than normal enemies, nothing special. I would wish for random bosses at the end, or at least some tactics to be needed. MP is a 5/10 for me. I play it at PC, graphics at max, with a 7.1 system.

So if you can get this for about 30€ or maybe 35$, its a good choice, but i wont buy it again for ~45€.

    SP 8/10
    MP 5/10
    Sound 9/10

Dragon Age: Inquisition is another great game from BioWare in their Dragon Age franchise. It's scope and quality help the franchise shine like never before, but also showcases the setbacks faced with having such a scope.

The world of Fereldan is bigger than ever before. BioWare does a nice job creating a world that's vast and beautiful. The different zones of Inquisition are all treated with care. The home bases of Inquisition (Haven and Skyhold) are both detailed and well done. In Inquisition, the series has become more of an open world. I found myself exploring and staring at the world around me just to take in sights on multiple occasions.

While the world is enormous, it also caused the biggest downfall of the game; the lack of narrative focus. Because of the open-world nature of the game, you're going to spend a lot of time out in the world of Fereldan, rather than experiencing the epic story. This wouldn't be as much of a problem if the world had as much to offer you, but it folds under the pressure of having too big of a scope. It often feels disjointed, having long sections of "filler" content before small sections of story against an uninteresting villain. The open-world nature often goes at odds with the narrative focus, killing the potential this game had.

Because the game is so big, BioWare has to fill it out with as much content as possible. They do a fine job of having the content there, but give you no reason to care about it being there. In past BioWare games, side quests had cutscenes with new characters asking you to do things for them. While it was always the same "kill x smount of bad guys to get the loot required", you felt more of an obligation to do so because you've had a personal interaction with that character. Inquisition fails to have very many cutscenes at all other than the main quests. You are left the Mass Effect 3-esque conversations with people from far away, with background noises often drowning them out. This lack of personal obligation leaves players feeling bored, lacking any reason to care.

The world of Thedas has become less personal as well. Instead of interesting sidequests with characters showing you more backstory to the world, you're often told of how the world is through codex entries. This leaves a lot of players who want to learn of this world out of luck, unless they sit and read each entry. For old players of the Dragon Age series, this often leads to Dragon Age steering away from it's grittiness. The world of Fereldan is on the brink of destruction. People are dying. The world has gone to **** More has never been at stake before. But because you never really see or experience very many bad things at all, it really doesn't feel like the threat is as great as it should be.

To shorten the review, I will list the rest:
The war table and inclusion of perks was a fun, new way to experience interesting quests and choices that help give the Inquisition its own personal feel. Though it was neat, it left me wanting it to have a bigger impact at the end. Companions were well thought out and interesting as well as companion quests. Romance and voice acting throughout was excellent. Having advisers and seeing past characters were nice additions to the game. Crafting was rewarding, albeit time consuming. Armor and weapons were decent. Combat was enjoyable and skill trees were fun to toy around with. The sounds were great, along with the soundtrack. The character creator was expansive and well-done, while having different backstories was a nice touch. Codex entries (if you're willing to read them) tell some great stories too.

The game is a good game, but the scope that the game had killed any potential for a great game. BioWare's choice-based storytelling is still better than most in the AAA market, but it feels as if the storytelling aspect was played down more than it should've been.

    - Non-cutscene dialogue with sidequest NPCs is dull. No camera angle changes. Your character just stands there and speaks to the NPC at the default camera angle. Can't see facial animations or anything like that.
    - FETCH QUESTS. "Go here and collect X ram meat." "Go here and unlock camp." "Go here and discover landmark." "Go here and collect shard." You get the idea... I would have preferred DA: Origin's style of a more directed experience. Yes, it's an open world game, but open world doesn't mean you need repetitive MMO-style fetch quests (for example, look at TES or Fallout: New Vegas).
    - Attack system requires holding down R or left-click. You will find yourself constantly accidentally attacking when you meant to left-click on something. Dumb change, more suitable for a hack n slash game. Picking up loot requires walking next to the loot first, before you are allowed to right-click and collect it.
    - Tactical view is too zoomed in. Clunker than DA:O's.

STORY: 10 (If the player allows themselves to relax enough the game is actually very strong with it's story it can be easily drowned out by the large amount of side quests that are more so for filler then enabling the story along. The followers of the game once again are fleshed out as to be expected from anyone that has played DA:Origins, unfortunately some players may be quick to judge the game is long and does not show all of its cards at once, patience is needed.

The story: Rift has began to open across Orlais and Fereldan and monsters are coming out of it. You are the inquisitor and it is your job to close these rifts and gather allies. You will make decisions that will affect how your companions will treat you and decisions that will make you both allies and enemies.

Gameplay is really fun. There are loads of side quests and crafting material to gather. It will keep you playing for hours without doing the main quest. The combat can get intense and you will need to pause and plan out next move. The difficulty spike can get high sometimes, but after careful planning, I was able to overcome those trials The skill tree follows closer to the ones in DA2, which I don't find it too bad. IT's intersting to know that this is first DA game to have attributes level up automatically. This gets rid of hassle of what to raise when leveling your character. Character creation has multiple choices to choose from. There are 4 races:Humans, elves, dwarves, and qunari, and 3 classes: Rouge, Warrior, and Mage. Each class has multiple sub-classes. Each classes feels fun to play. By choosing the right members, your party can be deadly group.

As for the graphics....it's rather disappointing. I'm playing on my limited xbox 360, and I think they could have put more efforts for the console. Sometimes the texture doesn't load for 30 secs. Returning character models look akward. Really awesome design on areas though!

My final thought: Although it's much better than DA2, it's not as good as DA:O and could have used bit more polishing

Lame Controls. Fked up Techtical View. Boring side quests. Ugly girls that are not modable at all.

Won't give it 8/10 were I not a DA fan... Most likely a 7/10... Lost faith in BioWare since ME 3.

Graphics: Ultra w/ no Anti Aliasing

(A little history: I have played through DA:O and DA2 in many characters on many levels of difficulty. Also the entire ME series. I know from whence I speak.)

This is not DA:O and it was not meant to be DA:O. Therefore, I chose not to judge the game by its predecessors, but rather on its own merits.

Solid and slightly reminiscent game play, definitely not the horror show that has run amuck in these reviews. What was an incredible pain is the controls.Yes, it was a rushed PC port and I believe that this has soured the game for those using the venerable mouse and keyboard. HOWEVER, it is far from broken and once I acclimated and played with the key assignment, it has rarely bothered me again.

It also tends to rarely and randomly crash to desktop with a DirectX error, but that is more annoying than an actual deal breaker.

Apart from that, the graphics are amazing. I love the detail and the fresh upgrades to old characters. I did bypass the tactical view due to the drunk monkey controls and just used the the 3rd person view for directing the battle. I do feel like I am grinding with some of the side quests and I get the chilling ME3 feeling with the "War Room," but I believe there is enough DNA from past incarnations to keep the game from falling into that nightmare.

If anything this game takes the best of Origins and DA2, melding them together with upgraded and stunning visuals. An open world environment really adds to the game and is a needed improvement from DA2's repetitive and claustrophobic "Free Marches." The animations are fluid and well crafted, but the interface is a little cluttered and indirect.

The only thing Dragon Age has ever required from its players is patience; the reward being an utterly fulfilling and replayable story. This seems to be something many of these naysayer "reviewers" lack and thusly pan a good game as broken and unplayable.

Is it worth the money? For me, yes. I am willing to give the game the benefit of the doubt. For everybody else, the only thing these bad reviews are doing well is putting an excellent game in the bargain bin within six months. I just couldn't wait that long. :)

It was the same for a Sera only mission and probably many other missions as well. If you do manage to overlook these problems the game looks great and plays great. Some may complain about the combat but to be fair, Dragon age never had an interesting combat to begin with though I feel this combat in DAI is the best one yet as you can do nice combos though the tactics could've been better like in DAO. I gave it an 8 for how great the game is and took out 2 points for the problems it has and the unpolished multiplayer which is most likely a result from putting it in the game the last minute. Expand

Unfortunately the game is marred by a number of technical issues on the PC version specifically that made play aggravating at times. A large chunk of play time is taken up by dull search-and-recover side quests. The tactical camera, such a huge part of Origins combat, is mostly useless. Characters, though entertaining, often lacked development or multi-dimensionality, and a pair of awesome plot twists weren't able to save the game from an otherwise underwhelming ending. Bioware continues to make improvements to the playability of their PC version, but it's unfortunate that the most loyal fans of the series, the ones who bought the game first at full price, were hit with the worst of it. By no means perfect, but still an amazing and highly enjoyable game. Can't go without playing this one. Expand

Game-play: The combat in DA:I is pretty simplistic but very fun and easy to use but with specials that feel unique to each character choice i didn't get bored of the combat. the tactical camera is also a nice feature too, and although i didn't use it to much i did bring it up when fighting multiple/ tough bosses. it adds a nice strategic tough to the game. there were some technical glitches in my play through but it didn't hamper the experience to much

Content: the story was very good in this game and for me the relationships you build with each of the characters was better then the actual story itself and that's what makes this game a great one, because you care about what happens to them. one thing i was a little disappointed in was that i wish my choices had a little more sway in the overall story but outside of a few moments i felt it didn't dynamically effect the story. another great thing is how much stuff there is to do i loved the puzzle quests and the different items you could collect. each side quest i did felt like it was meaningful and going towards a bigger cause and the more puzzle like ones reward you with great weapons/armor

The only things that I do not like are the time wasting controls in the game. In game we can close up rifts and decipher constellations and open up encrypted doors under time constraints. But climbing a simple mound completely stumps us.

    It doesn't make sense.

Also, some of the sacrifices we make are so intense that I'd rather have another option. I don't like losing party members that I believe are critical to the flow of the game and the intensive immersion and time wasting of the game itself, will only make me want to play it once. For a person playing this game casual, they could easily play it for 3 years and never fully complete the game itself.

It would be nice to have better save points in the game in order to be able to back track on a decision made previously in a split moment.

DA:O was a 9 for me and DA 2 a 7. I think DA:I fits somewhere in the middle. The environments Bioware has created in DA:I are fantastic. I haven't had any noticeable graphical problems other than cut-scene dialogue stutter which I was able to fix by unlocking the framerate to 60 (can be found easily by doing a web search). Overall, I'm very pleased with the overall graphical design of the world and the characters as well. The writing and voice acting were done very well.

In my opinion, this game could have been as good as DA:O, but the combat isn't nearly as good. A lot of it has to do with AI and lack of control. When I played DA:O on nightmare, I was able to carefully place my group around the battlefield and have them hold position when necessary and carefully select their actions through the tactics menu. DA:I does not have the same level of detail which can sometimes make combat frustrating. However, it's not enough to discourage me from playing the game.

DA:I fixed most of the problems with DA2 but it still feels like more DA2 than DA:O. That being said, it you wanted to put 100+ hours in this game you could which makes it a great value. I've actually enjoyed a lot of the optional content and it hasn't felt too repetitive. If you're a fan of the series you should play this game.

While it has its faults, chief among them the further dumbing down and cookie cutter aspect done to your character and companions as well as the oversimplified and nearly useless AI system for your companions. Yet despite those rather nasty faults, the game is both beautiful in its graphics and art as well as the world being massive for those of us who like exploring. Bioware did a grand job with the art, graphics and variety of everything visually environment to a large variety in your equipment appearance based upon materials used in its making - a solid 10 in my book for those aspects alone. The story is interesting and the huge crafting system is one of its other best aspects another solids 10 aspect for any non-MMO RPG.

However, because the negatives are so glaring and stand out so strongly to players, I will first expand further upon what I consider to be its biggest fault: They have taken away everything that makes your character unique beyond your appearance leaving you a cookie cutter of every other mage/rogue/warrior. First they took away your ability to assign stats and have your character's physical and mental attributes grow different from others. Now every mage, rogue or warrior is literally a cookie cutter of every other with all (your character and like companions) sharing fixed stats with very minor stat increases only gained from your skill choices and larger ones from equipment enhancements - both restricted depending upon your class. No longer can you choose to build a agile or cunning character that does better crits unless you are a rogue. Those stats (Dex and Cunning) are essentially blocked out for mages and warriors. Mages can only get improved Magic, Will and Con - their Strength, Cunning and Dexterity all remain stagnant at the starting "10." Warriors can get Strength and Con but apparently cannot improve Magic, Cunning, Will or Dex - those stats staying locked at their starting 10. Rogues are similarly limited to Strength, Con, Dex and Cunning with others stuck at the starting 10. This makes everyone exactly like everyone else of their type - no individuality allowed whatsoever beyond what skills/spells you focus on first. Furthermore they further reduced the number and variety of skills/spells available for you to use. Magic became further constrained with magical healing somehow, and without explanation, disappearing from Thedas. Potion spamming ala Diablo is now the only healing method.

The other notably large disappointment was the severely dumbed down AI system. You can no longer set conditions and actions as you could in DAO and DA2 - in other words, no pre-game huddle with your companions with orders to do certain things under certain conditions. If you want that you now must micro-manage the companions by pausing the game and giving them specific orders when you want them to do something particular.

Despite those rather nasty degradations to the DA franchise, I still give this game an overall positive score because it has listened to fans and made for a large and varied world to play in. No longer are you forced down narrow paths from point A to B to C and etc like you were in the previous two games. And importantly it isn't just a large empty world. There are creatures to be battled (and skinned), treasures and lore to be found as well as other crafting materials to be harvested for the awesome crafting system they have put in. Not only can you make all of your own equipment for you and your companions, but you can use a large array of different materials for a different appearance and effects. You can even make upgrades/enhancements for your equipment that also further change its appearance.

The story itself is interesting and memorable for the fact that they bring back many characters from the previous two games, though not all in appearance they are at least mentioned within the story and what they are now doing in the world. Leliana, my favorite companion from DAO, is back with a major role as one of the leaders/advisors of the Inquisition.

So, just as there is much to hate about Inquisition there is, in my opinion, so much more to enjoy as well. The environments are beautiful with varied weather and the characters are well voice acted. Oh and one other thing worth noting, though a small difference I think it makes for a very notable improvement to the game experience - particularly immersion. You can now climb and even JUMP up to new locations and over obstacles.

#1 like: writers utilize much of the prior DA lore, nice to see some old favorite characters popping in here. #1 dislike:

I'd say if you liked Origins, this is worth a try, if not a harcore fan though, wait until price drops.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Bioware rightfully made the best fantasy game only beat by Skyrim. The real draw of this game is Character customization, choices, and discovery. I always love creating a female character and this game doesn't disappoint in that respect unlike Fallout 4 for example. Inquisition still has the best dialogue system and the most decisions out of modern games. So the only competition in that respect is between well, previous Bioware titles and Telltale Games. However, most choices don't have a big enough impact. No matter who you choose, Templars or Mages, you'll still have to defend Haven from the forgettable villain. I understand that part is critical to the story but Bioware has given much more weight to choices in the Mass Effect series
. But Skyhold really is a big improvement over the Normandy. The world is plenty big and the highlights visually are the houses in the Emerald Graves, the Eleven temple in the end, and the sand dunes of the Western Approach(beat Elder Scrolls to the punch). Due to the leveling and weapon damage system, enemies had to have large health bars to make the former mechanics work. There is no point in getting a better weapon if the Red Templars succumb to one or two hits. This makes encounters long and less fun. Dragons take so long to kill.
Only at the end does the story get intriguing. This is mostly thanks to Morigan(who I kept thinking was the villain due to the reveal trailer) and the Elvin lore.Since that I was eager to make progress in the game, I skipped most of the cutscenes, dialogue, and books;something I usually don't do.It ended up cutting my playthrough in half(about 50 hours instead of the average 100+)
In a world where Gods and magic exist, religion stills gets thing wrong. Something I only realized towards the end. Not that they were morally wrong(the chantry is clearly the old christian church and a lot of it draws inspiration from the real world) but that it's not certain who these gods were as Mythal turns out not to be an Elvin god but Morigan's Immortal human mother. And there isn't proof of the maker or the Old Gods existence. The only interesting part of Coryriphius (spelled wrong) was when he mentions that the thrones in the heavens were empty. That mystery definitely will be explained in future games.
The end seems to point towards a Grey Warden civil war being a plot point for DAV. It really sucks that EA most likely took the real ending and released it as the Trespasser DLC only for current-gen. That will probably stop me from playing it as I played it on the 360 and will likely get a PS4.
So the near future for Bioware is Andromeda. Something that is taking far too long to make. Is it going through development hell? Almost. Bioware is trying to make a far more ambitious game than Mass Effect 3. But here's the problem. This is in terms of content, not substance. Clearly the scale of this game is whats being built upon. And in my opinion thats a bad thing. Inquisition would have been significantly better in terms of story, pacing, and level design if Bioware didn't try to compete with the sheer size of Skyrim. Either way, I'm almost certain that Andromeda will be a great game:)

Then you get to choose your Voice and Honestly They both suck you either choose an Extremely Deep voice or a lite and happy Voice None In between, I however Chose the Lighter Voice as the Deep one just Didn't work. This is for a human by the way I Can't speak for the other races. Then you get into the game and the animations are amazing, and the combat is smooth. I've seen alot of people Complaining about How cut scenes are laggy but from what I've seen they Didn't realize that the cut scene's are capped at 30 fps. Then you have the animations in the game (Opening a door etc) Those are Unfortunately capped at 30 fps as well so you can be having a perfectly smooth 60 fps but when you open a door While the game is smooth the Door will always be at 30, Same with birds by the way.

and then you have something called Dragon age keep The idea is good Yes and when it works its amazing Unfortunately For me It didn't and I didn't realize it until I was 30 hours in and I wasn't about to redo everything just for that. and it really bothered me too because I romanced morrigan and i wanted to see how my warden was doing but instead I was told I was a female elf Whom had died -_-

now let me tell you I not gay at all i am far from it but both of the Straight male Romance options were so Boring I was tempted to romance Dorian and that is saying something. Alot of the Negative Reviews i have seen are from people who hadn't gotten out of the hinterlands and let me tell you first hand GET OUT OF THE HINTERLANDS I Bought the inquisitors Edition so I played double of what the game costs and I literally had it sitting in my closet collecting dust Because of how bored I was. (That is until I got out of the hinterlands) and just a warning for people This game rely's heavily on side quest's so if you rush the game (Which you really can't but if you can manage to) you can finish in 6 hours at least but me personally I am 35 hours in and at the max level ( well the soft cap) and I've only done about 4 main quests.
If you have played the past games and are planning to import your saves Make sure you Export them on the dragon age keep. I can't stress this enough I missed out on so much because i didn't Press a single button.

Can I recommend this game? Yeah But only if you are willing to put up with the occasional Crash and Glitch. and trust me those Glitches can get really bad I had Fought the Ferelden Frost back which In my opinion Is the hardest Dragon in the game and When I had finally killed him He Was dead but the game Didn't see him as dead so he was just sitting there Not attacking me just... Sitting there another Time I was fighting a dragon I got Hit and went Flying In the air and When I got back to the Ground I was Nearly Dead and the Dragon was fully healed again.

A pretty good game. I've played DAO before trying this, but DAI got my attention much better.

Pros: + excellent storyline. It really feels like you're carving your way from a thug who's about to be executed - to someone who shakes hands with emperors and tell them what to do + pretty good combat system. I mean, it's not realistic by any stretch of imagination, but it's pretty fun.

+ pretty good combat system. I mean, it's not realistic by any stretch of imagination, but it's pretty fun. Tactics matter. Proper gear and enchancements matter. Quick reaction matters. Choosing companions and their tactical preferences matters.
+ Really beautiful graphics. It's not about the technology, I mean hello it's 2014. You can draw a very depressive scenery with cutting-edge graphics. But even with lower graphical settings - this game has beautiful.locations, characters, animation.
+ Locations are pretty goddamn big. Like really. They are limited by "invisible walls" eventually, but you don't feel them normally. DAO locations (even outdoor ones!) felt like a corridor quite often. DAI locations feel like an open-world game.
+ The game is pretty long, over 100 hours, even without exploring all the side quests, and secondary locations.
+ A proper party composition and tactics allows you to have ZERO health loss throughout all but the most intense fights (played on "hard").

    Cons:
    - Dialog choices are somewhat misleading... Same as with Mass Effect - save the game often. Chances are the next dialog will be important and you'll have to explore the tree before you get the character to say what YOU want him to say.
    - Quests on the world map are minimally rewarding and honestly kinda dumb. Like you send troops to save a city from extermination and get like 100 coins as reward - while one half-decent weapon costs 3'000 coins at your local armory. Hello Mass Effect again.
    - Not sure if it's a con, but - infinite arrows for archers...
    - Again - some might like it, but - no slow health regeneration when idle, and no healing magic (except for a few focus-powered spells - only for emergency use). Causes loooong home-runs to a camp for the sole purpose of replenishing HP. BUT - good tactics help with minimizing HP loss.

This game does deliver however, but requires a great deal of investment early on. For instance only after playing 10+ hours did I feel the story come together. I originally bought this game on ps4 and soon traded it in since the restricted input afforded by a controller made the game tedious and clunky to play; this like many RPGs are much better on PC given the easier and more varied management of input (keyboard + mouse that is). I decided to give it a second go after replaying the mass effect series (extremely recommended) when I thought I should give bioware another go and it does pay off in the long term. If youre interested in character investment and significant decision making in the game (similar to mass effect 2 squad selection and mass effect 3 race recruitment) this is certainly a good candidate. I believe some strategy and tactical gameplay is required in this game although it may be more frustrating for hardcore DA fans to bear; for me it was good fun without being too simplified.

The only faults I can see in my opinion is that I would have appreciated the option to explore a darker plot (ie whether to become corrupt as inquisitor, turn on allies after the war, etc etc) which would have made the story more mature (and better rounded) rather than an everybody lives happily ever after type ending. Additionally the games story seems to rap up very quickly towards the end and the final boss battle is fairly underwhelming (major bad guy could have been better voice acted to make him scarier in my view too) especially If you craft weapons or amour which easily outmatch any collectibles in the game.

Bottom line is I would very much recommend this as a story rich RPG that allows a lot of freedom in terms of achieving story objectives (e.g recruiting mages or Templars to the order etc) with the above caveats.

Recommended although not quite as good as mass effect trilogy (what is...?) The storys definitely quite good IMHO, certainly the most ambitious RPG to date and 95% of the time it pulls it off well

the table I hated Dragon Age 2 and I loved Dragon Age Origins, in fact I loved Dragon Age Origins
so much I completed nine playthroughs and can confidently say I liked it more than Mass Effect 1
and 2. Dragon Age Origins was a brilliant game. The story was well crafted and it was the best 3d
animated and voice acted dungeons and dragons game. It's combat system was based on an isometric
camera, dice rolls, armor rating, weapon acceleration math, D&D attributes like constitution,
dexterity ex.. The dialogue system was an array of choices reflecting D&D morals and ethics
system, chaotic, base, lawful, evil, neutral, good. It was a great game and I understand why people
    loved it.

Dragon Age 2 however took the series in another direction. It attempted to be an
action adventure game with flashy combat and a simplified streamlined interface to appeal
to new and younger players. All fine and good I don't mind action adventure games after all I
love the Witcher games which are definitely not isometric tactical RTWP CRPG games. Having said
that Dragon Age 2 bothered me not because the change of direction but rather because the game was
just plain bad. I can go into great detail why it was a mediocre poor experience but it has been
    said ad-nauseam.

Ok now that that is done with and my biases are revealed lets get into the actual review for
Dragon Age Inquisition. First off Dragon Age Inquisition is not like Origins in terms of combat,
so if you only disliked Dragon Age 2 because of the combat then you will be disappointed.
While Dragon Age Inquisition doesn't have that tactical combat we Origin fans come to love
it still has an improved action combat system over Dragon Age 2. While the action based combat
isn't bad the tactical camera is a complete joke. It is very problematic for several reasons.
Of course I will go over them so people know what I mean, after all this is a review right?

The tactical camera mode is a broken system. It suffers from so many optimization issues.
The reasoning is rather transparent, it is obviously because it was added after the action combat
system was made and it was an after thought. The first and most important glaring issue is
that the camera has collision with ceilings and elevated floors. What does that mean you ask?
Well it means that when you move the tactical camera from point A to B and point A is on the ground
floor and point B is on a higher level, you have to move the camera up the stairs or up a ramp. You
get the point, the camera cannot climb walls, hills, ect... this is a pain I cannot tell you how
many times I had to move my camera around obstacles just to reach my target. As for ceiling
collision.... well imagine going into a room with a low ceiling and trying to use the tactical
camera. This results in a really low camera and thus a useless camera.
The next issue is that WASD doesn't move the camera, only WS moves forward and back but A and
D rotate the camera.... Yeah talk about clunky controls. Trees and high objects cut off your
view and characters are very slow to respond with tactical commands. Sometimes they so not
respond at all. Pretty much the tactical camera is awful and almost unusable.

Man, after all that you must think that I hate this game and how can I possibly rate Dragon
Age Inquisition 8/10, assuming you made it through the mountain of text to get to this point.
Now that we established that the tactical combat is a mess I must confess that just about
every other issue with Dragon Age 2 was addressed. The story is big, the stakes are huge,
there are plot twists and turns and there is so much content it is mind blowing. When I reached
about 1/3 into the game I thought it was over, I was disappointed, but then I realized the
game had only really just begun. The graphics are superb, the textures scale well, and the
particle effects are lovely. The RPG elements are great, there is so much to do.... too much
actually. Nobody with a life will be able to do every quest. Even though there is a lot of filler quests there is also a lot of non filler story quests like companion quests, region quests and main story quest. Choices seem to matter and you make a couple of pretty huge choices so this game is definitely less linear than most Bioware games. The companions are way better than Dragon Age 2 trust me. The Iron Bull, Varric, Blackwall and Cassandre are all excellent characters in my opinion. There are also some pretty lengthy and impressive cameos and Dragon Age Origins story related conclusions, I will not ruin this as I want this to be spoiler free. As for performance I had some frame drops but mostly stable 60 fps with some settings dialed down.

I am going to lead off by saying that this is by no means a perfect game. I can say, however, that without the rose-coloured goggles so common in such comparisons, that Inquisition is a strong contender for best game in the trilogy to date.

First off, Inquisition is big. It's not big in the sense of Skyrim-big or Fallout-big where you wander through one large monotonic environment fighting wild animals and random bandits for the sake of loot and XP, it is big in the sense of Origins-big or Star Wars-big where you really get the sense you're existing in a gigantic and well-thought-out world. The sheer variety and visual expansiveness of what you get puts this high on my list of best settings in video games.

Secondly, Inquisition is densely-populated. These areas are big because they're full; every corner you wander to, every cave, every nook and cranny and hill will have fights and sidequests and interesting things to go hunting for. You can pick a direction, walk off that way, and never be bored. The inevitable slew of fedex quests are given a life of their own through the narrative tying them back to the setting and the plot; you're never asked to go kill ten mountain goats for no reason, you're asked to go find food for starving refugees and when you get back the quest-giver will tell you how pleased he is that the Inquisition is going to look out for the underdogs that nobody cares for, your organization's influence will go up, and some of your companions will approve. Everything ties back together, everything feels like it matters.

Third, combat is engaging. People have complained that Inquisition is 'dumbed down' because the set of abilities is smaller than it was in Origins; that is technically true, there are about half as many abilities for a given class in Inquisition as in Origins. Combat, however, feels less like an MMO where you set up an optimal macro and toss out the same spells in the same sequence to win every fight; your physical position matters a lot more and the abilities you're given are suited to different situations instead of something being strictly better than something else. Ability combos from Dragon Age 2 are back with increased depth; there are more conditions to exploit and more ways to exploit them.

Fourth, BioWare's characters are back in top form; I've found a little more depth to the companions here than in prior games. Characters in Mass Effect and DA2 have a set of strongly-held and unshakeable convictions barring the occasional one-time change of heart in a personal quest; Inquisition shows us characters who are willing to set aside their personal prejudices for the sake of the mission and have more multidimensional motivations. My protagonist feels more like a character himself than a sounding board for the rest of the cast to bounce off of or the cliched one-dimensional three Hawke personalities.

Inquisition is not all sunshine, rainbows, and a gigantic world that is a joy to explore, unfortunately; the game plays on PC like it was intended for consoles, and has some distracting control scheme issues that detract from the experience. The tactical camera is moved with the arrow keys, there's no mouse pan, and menus will occasionally bug out and not recognize the mouse (it is a good idea to learn to navigate them with the keyboard for when this happens; I've never seen it happen in gameplay, only in menu screens). The lack of click-to-move makes getting to things to pick up and loot frustrating and when combined with the camera angles in non-main-plot conversations sometimes leads to strange body positions. Facial animation and body language haven't advanced here and we're still stuck with the same limited suite of animations earlier BioWare games have used. The main plot starts off abruptly and without adequate explanation; the story finds its stride quickly, however.

This is not a traditional cliched fantasy game; if you want the story of a lone muscular hero slaughtering their way through hordes of foes in a monochromatic setting for the experience points and battling an evil overlord with dragon-bone plate armour and a legendary sword reforged from the shards of his father's (who the evil overlord killed, of course) go somewhere else. This is the story of a world, with a thirteen-member ensemble cast leading an army, doing battle in forests with swords and in the court of public opinion with words, both with equal proficiency. This is a story where you have the power to shape the destiny of nations, not by killing a king and then wandering off to go grind some more but by building infrastructure and political power. Inquisition is a worthy successor to Origins as a detailed and intense dark fantasy that subverts and rewrites the conventions of the genre with equal glee and comes out with a cohesive and intelligent narrative and a fun game on the other side.

I don't really think this game is a 10 but it's not a 0 either. I created an account just to write this. I don't really think if someone give credit to Metacritic's User rating anymore, but if you do, just stop. I have by now almost 30 hours of gameplay and I'm having one of the most amazing experiences since I've played Mass Effect 2 and Grand Theft Auto IV.

The game has its flaws, some clunky bugs - nothing to be shocked about, it's a Bioware game - and sometimes an annoying AI, but it's nothing that'll heavily affect your gameplay at all. I have a quite old gaming rig that is able to run the game at medium settings and it still looks fantastic. It's one of the few games from this year that my computer can handle.

I spent almost 15 hours just in the starter area only completing side-quests, the world is interesting and you'll find yourself wanting to know more about it and the side-quests aren't boring at all. 15 hours just exploring and having fun it's not what most games can do, specially if released this year.

It's not a perfect game but it's one of the few that's called my attention this year and I couldn't be happier for buying it. There are some things that should be fixed and sometimes it feels like it lacks polishment; But I'm sure Bioware will address this and will listen to its fans.

Despite its problems at the launch day when it was unplayable for me, it turned out to be a very good game. I still don't like its combat mechanics and PC control scheme (forced me to play on a gamepad), but other than that, it is pretty solid. The story is good, so are the companions. Presentation is nice. I've spent about 150 hours playing, that clearly stands for something.

Large immersive game, lags badly in the beginning before you really open up the world and characters. I suggest moving out of the prologue area hinterlands at speed, then coming back when and as you like.

Some of the main characters are genuinely moving in their motivations, a few feel flat but most are worth spending time getting know. Choices from the other games do make an impact but not as much as I would have liked given how much time we spent on those other games.

Story - has a few twists but I wouldn't call it mindblowing, it's not bad though. It has a slow start however, and could have used some more early game momentum. Old characters make a return but not as many as you might like, some come in later as the game progresses.

Open world means you must set the pace yourself. That means you pick and choose what to do when and where. Upgrading for your base of operations, customization for it through collectibles and development projects; several degrees of equipment customization but these don't open up fully until later levels when you get decent materials, and runes; companion quests, with a hardening like mechanic; romantic story arcs; conflicts to deal with and resolve in your own camp and outside of it; impressively again certain characters get tied into story events, and then it's up to you to navigate them and the plot through it.

There's a lot to do, don't get stuck in one part of it too long. Vary what you are doing and you might well enjoy it more, fast travel and mounts makes it easy to resume pretty much exactly where you were, in fact it makes it too easy with respawning health potions.

Healing. OMG I can't heal??? Wrong.

Eventually some characters have advanced skills with healing abilities for themselves and one for others. Lifedrain abilities, heal on kill/damage, and heal boosts as well as others I won't spoil to help you heal. You have two abilities called barrier and guard which act as temporary health, barrier when coupled with specialization and normal upgrades from the skill trees can be fairly tough on normal. Guard is overpowered imho, especially when using guard boosting abilities and a shield.

    Negatives

Tactical camera - Gets stuck on terrain/roof, doesn't give you a tactical view of the battle. If a camera fails to give you a tactical view as I can’t zoom out and often simply can’t move it into place, it’s not working right.

Controls - On the PC feel a bit sluggish. I am used to it, but the first couple of hours, and occasionally afterwards like when you are riding your horse and because it is sluggish you fall off a small cliff.

Bugs - This game has several bugs that need patching. Are any gamebreaking? Probably but none that i've encountered, but save often. Odd things like people falling out of the sky or into chairs, small camps of enemies just disappearing on a whim. It's noticeable that it needed more quality testing on the PC port before release.

Rogues in Melee, I am sure it is possible to use a rogue melee companion well, however for the average player, even with all his evades, he is as survivable as a piece of cardboard in a fire. He has no guard, no barrier (unless you can keep him close to a mage, which is dangerous for the mage melee range) and no self heals, unless you give him minor abilities from items. Conclusion - stick with ranged rogues, any rogue companion can be specialised for range combat.

Minor mention - graphical textures for medium quality character meshes are absolutely terrible. The hair looks like glue, turn mesh quality to high immediately. The world looks okay graphically on medium, the trees needed more work.

Looting – I have a love hate relationship with spamming the same key, over and over and over.

    Notes:
Combat – Average for my mage. It's simplistic in the beginning and then more fun when you work with the skill system to set up combination attacks, like freeze/shatter to boost your close combat mage's barrier and focus.

Skills can be changed around for a small cost, welcomingly companions start with all their points to allocate.

UI – is passable. It’s icons were too small for me, and each part felt segregated from the others.

Quests – The variety of quests is bigger than I could list here. Fetch, Kill, Quest, Alter the landscape, if you are not enjoying something skip it.

    Conclusion
I buy RPG’s for the characters, immersion and story, so I am rating this an 8. It does these things well, once you get out of the hinterlands! The controls, glitches, poor early pacing, lacklustre early combat, and UI to an extent make me want to give this a 7 but I am enjoying myself enough with feeling like an inquisitor, with plenty to do at 60 hours in still! I have got more than my monies worth already and I’m only halfway through, so it just squeezed in an 8 from me, just the sheer volume of content.

DLC - Needs more random events, to come to you and engage you

The UI could be better for PC players as it has limited space for ability placement, but it has many improvements over the DA2 one. The return of the Tactical Camera and it's related elements is a huge improvement over DA2 however. The expansive Skyrim-like feel of the zones like The Hinterlands is also a great improvement over DA2. The only problem with this and the graphics is that if you have a older system, you'll have some issues with the FPS and related elements unless your on lowest settings.

    It's a good game.

I've glanced at other reviews. They're a whole lot of "DA:I isn't DA:O!" and "DA:I isn't X and/or Y!" I agree, but that's not what Bioware ever claimed either. In addition, many people feel they have played enough of the game after ~5 hours to form an opinion. For most games, this is fine. For DA:I, that is barely the prologue of the game. the Good.

Huge world that feels like its actualy living instead of filled with things.

    Great story

    great companions especially Iron Bull

Most of the choices and made me think how they would effect me and the world.

Animations are great especially for mages.

Knight enchanter while super powerful is very fun to play.

There were almost no doors that couldn't be opened and many houses were just there with no pick ups in them and fully furnished to look like they belonged in the world. its a detail that most games ignore.

    Suggestions

    1. Ai is garbage on ranged companions, they stand in Aoes and run into melee very often. for normal encounters it doesn't matter too much but for fights with stuff like dragons it gets them killed .

    2. it is very easy to out level areas entirely so i end up skipping entire regions. changing it so if you out level an area it automatically brings things to your lvl would be helpful.

    3. last boss was super easy mainly because of my level. i think the last boss should always be a certain level above yours.

    4. Tactical mode and pc controls are kinda bad. there's enough on them in these forums so i wont repeat.

    5. After finishing the game skyhold gets really buggy. characters and objects not loading in and it wont allow me to judge anyone.

    6. an actual tactics menu like in origins would be cool.

    7. some crashes but hey i give Bethesda games free passes on this.

as the game stands i would give it a 8/10. if controls, Ai and tactical menu are fixed easily a 9/10

I don't get what everyone is complaining about. Sure, the game has issues but it's one of the best RPG i've played in the past 3 years. So far (15 hours in) the story is great and i've enjoyed the quests in the zones (mainly hinterlands), doesn't matter if it's pick this up or kill this. Great game, it's a solid 8/10.

My human male was announced as a female... Not sure what happened there, so i had to make another character. The first thing I really noticed about the game was the glitches, which isn't exactly a good thing as you might imagine. Next, were the controls, tough to get used to, and hardly efficient. The frame rate, is honestly a battle i am still struggling with, (I am using an Alienware 17 Nvidia 770M) I can't run the game on ultra as I am used to, but I can run it on a mixture of high and the former mentioned setting.

With all that out of the way, what the game gets right is unbelievable. Inquisition is an experience I will never forget. i am 50 hours in, and I already am thinking about my next play through. What character will i romance? What class will I pick? What choices will I make? I honestly believe that you could make the same character twice, and experience completely different stories if you desired. The sheer amount of time, effort, as well as love that went into this game, from the developers, is almost unreal. Seriously, this game is massive. Be prepared for quite a lengthy first play through. This game takes major steps in the right directions, yet ultimately due to it's flaws, does not live up to it's full potential. My only hope is that they patch some of the clunky controls, as well as the the frame rate issues that plague this masterpiece. Unfortunately, the reason these become so apparent, is because the rest of the game is so well done. it is a great game, you will get your monies worth. Now, go buy it Champ!

    • I’m playing on PC using keyboard and mouse and I’ve read lots of negative comments about this. Controls are different and more complex than the previous games but I found them fine once I got used to them. You can rebind keyboard controls but there seems to be some issue rebinding mouse actions – hopefully this can be patched.

    • There are a number of bugs but I haven’t found anything game breaking and most are annoying more than anything else. For me the game plays very stably and hasn’t crashed once.

    • On the downside the tactical camera mode isn’t well thought out and doesn’t really work; I’ve taken to playing in the normal mode and pausing if I want to direct party members rather than using tac.

Overall I’m loving it and really can’t understand the degree of extreme negative comments being levied at this title.

As for story, I can't complain. It was pretty good for what it was, without going in depth and spoiling for anyone reading this review.

Companions: Was my only problem, many of them were forgettable and I could care less about. Some felt like they were added into the story just because of convenience through side quests and then had no real impact to the main story line.

Although there are some glitches in the game and loading screens are a bit long, that isn't something I should complain about because those can be fixed with patches and such. After all, for a rushed title they did a damn good job!

Nonetheless, I'm 30+ hours in and really enjoying it. It looks beautiful on High and Ultra settings, but does start to look plastic and shiny on medium or lower settings. I actually went out and bought a new machine to play it on Ultra.

The main story is compelling and I like the idea of being able to control agents and work on missions across the world. But those who complain of too many side quests are not wrong: there are a ton! Some are cool, many are trivial. There are lots of crafting "ingredients" to gather, and you have flexibility in the kinds of weapons and armor you want to make.

Another feature that I really like is the Dragon Keep website, where you can select virtually all the major decisions of the previous games in order to "export" your Dragon Age world as you start your Inquisition experience.

On the downside, there are some mechanics that are not explained. For example, I no longer have attribute points to modify strength, intelligence, and other traits. Or if I do, I have no idea how to do that. It appears that modifications to attributes occur only through weapons, armor, and your selection of abilities. But given that the first two games had attribute points, it seems weird not to have it in this game--especially without explanation.

And I agree with those who bemoan the loss of auto-attack. It would be nice if at least a player could choose auto-attack versus manual. Some people surely enjoy the action game-feel, but on PC, having to hit "R" over and over for basic attacks is a pain.

And the tactical camera is sometimes tough to maneuver. A few times I've tried to close a rift over my head only to have a heck of a time getting close enough to it so that I can close it while also angling the camera up so I can see it. It's especially difficult if there are demons beating on my character.

Gamers are passionate people and many have become passionate recently (due, at least in part, to the infamous Mass Effect 3 ending) about trashing Bioware and EA, but games are even harder to make than epic movies. There are so many variables and things that can go wrong. I don't know how much playtesting or focus group testing Bioware does--maybe they should do more--but I wish the people giving this game a 1 or 2 rating would take a deep breath and try to find some perspective. The worst that Bioware is guilty of here, I think, is trying too hard to please too many people. They wanted to satisfy those who love the open aspect of a Skyrim but want the great story of a DA Origins. They're trying to do both and may wind up falling short on both counts. But even so, the game is fun and enjoyable.

As I wrote at the start, a only about halfway into the game (or less, as I am a bit of a completionist), but I am very happy I bought this game.

The graphics are good, but nothing mindblowing. What really improved is the graphical style - the series seems to finally have found its visual identity. There is a lot of beautiful 2d art everywhere, too.
It's good to have the isometric camera again, but its implementation is bad. It doesn't pull away enough, and you can't drag and select multiple characters. That's not a major flaw, though. The combat is fast paced and interesting after unlocking a few skills.

(Inquisitor, fetch this! fetch that! ya ya kill this guy!) As a completionist myself it was hard to tear myself away from this map before finishing everything, but I was just getting burnt out, much like others are experiencing I'm sure.

The story really develops as do the characters once you start the first couple REAL missions. The sidequests also become more fun and challenging. 30 hours into the game you WILL be able to unlock new skill trees for your characters too for those that feel the default skill trees are lacking. Your actions DO affect the world around you, and if you spent the time using Dragon Keep to import your choices from past games it's well worth it.

Playing with keyboard and mouse was a disappointment, but once I switched to a controller everything worked beautifully. I know that many people complain that they bought this for PC which means they should be able to play with KBM... but restricting yourself to KBM for the sake of it will really detract from the experience you could be getting. Maybe they will make a patch for better KBM controls but until then I think using a controller is fine. Game performance has no issues on a PC, it looks better and plays smoother than console depending on how powerful your machine is.

Give this game a chance, leave the Hinterlands, dive into what the game really has to offer, and enjoy!

Graphics: 8/10 (Character models could be better but environments are great)
Sound and Music: 10/10 (Amazing, really enjoy the sountrack)
Gameplay: 7.5/10 (Tactical cam is sometimes restrictive. Keyboard mouse controls suck but plays beautifully with a controller)

Just to be sure of being understood. Just my opinion.

Now, do you want to know what are the problems? Here we are:

1 - There is no chest to store the equipment. Later in the game you'll understand the absurdity of this oversight
2 - Characters are not so customizable. You can choose your skills, but not how to custom your abilities, because points are automatically committed
3 - Some design choices are ridiculous, as weapons and shields "attacked" by magic in the back of the characters without sheaths or other supports. Very "old school fashion"
4 - It's frostbite 3. Be warned. To run the game at max graphics, you need a serious pc.
5 - It's frostbite 3. Sometimes, minor graphics glitch may occur. Sometimes.
6 - The game is huge. HUGE. Sometimes you may feel a little disoriented.

From this point on, is a classic Bioware game. Great story and great characters. Very good graphic and very funny/good gameplay. I have the pc version, the console version may be a different experience.

Performance: I'm running 1920x1200 with graphics quality settings at Ultra, and I'm typically getting 38-40 FPS. This gives nice gameplay, very good anti-aliasing and very nice particle effects for smoke, mist & special effects. Once I had the game hiccup and drop down to about 20 FPS, but closing and restarting fixed it. I found the color palette a little exaggerated, but overall the world is beautiful and very large.

Controls: Obviously I'm running on a PC, so my comment is about mouse and keyboard. I found the controls an odd hybrid of DA Origins and DA II, but I got the hang of it after a couple of hours although I would say the tactical view is a little hard to control compared to DAO. It took me a little longer to get the hang of the combat controls. Picking up loot is kind of a kludge. Not being able to map functionality to extra mouse buttons is an annoyance.

The Game: This is a bit of a mixed offering. There are a bunch of fetch quests that make it like an MMO, but you can ignore a lot of them if you want to. Most of the fetch quests like in to the main plot at least tenuously so they don't seem completely pointless. There's a fairly good crafting system for those who like that, but you can mostly ignore it if you want to (although you will have to collect herbs to use & upgrade your potions and grenades. The main plot line is good but not outstanding primarily because it's all kind of predictable. I did however love the political intrigue of the capital of Orlais!)

Followers: DA games wouldn't be what they are without quirky followers, and that where this game really shines. There are some tricky plot twists amongst the side quests related to your followers that I really liked - they made me think hard about some tricky ethical dilemmas. Generally I really like the followers and the writing associated with them and their individual story lines very much. The voice acting was very solid and the writing for the followers was consistently good.

Difficulty: There are 4 levels of difficulty, the easiest is really easy, and the hardest has had me dying a lot (which is what you should expect until you've mastered all the min/maxing).

Bugs: There were a few quirks: Bodies lying in mid-air in a couple of places; twice loading a game crashed the game; and the mouse going offline during dialog selection (this one happens often). None of these have affected my gameplay, or really even been a big inquisition.

    Overall rating: Very good

Dragon Age: Inquisition is a very good game with a handful of niggles. The user interface is a bit clunky, the game has more than its fair share of bugs (this review having been written pre-patch), and the game suffers from opening at a glacial pace. The game engine also has performance issues on PC, and seems to be poorly optimized.

The game engine also has performance issues on PC, and seems to be poorly optimized.

However, what the game can offer matches the problems by far; when the game gets going, it does so very well. In the writing department, this game absolutely shines. The story's twists and turns takes the player through a host of memorable moments, the character gallery is rich and enjoyable, and the dialogue is for the most part stellar.

Visually, the game is pleasing to the eye. It's by no means an ambitious game for a graphical point of view (although you wouldn't know it from hearing my GTX 780 Ti struggle with it), but the aesthetic style of the game is quite appealing. Some points do need deducting for character animations during conversations, where the game occasionally gives off a dollhousey vibe, threatening the immersion the game needs so badly.

The combat system is relatively straightforward and similar to Dragon Age II. Combat flows well and holds plenty of challenges, but can get cluttered and chaotic. Character creation and advancement has been dumbed down, seemingly for mainstream appeal, and are at this point so bare bones that there's little left.

To sum up, DA: Inquisition is a jewel, but not one without its flaws. On the technical side of things there are some problems, and the game needs a few hours to get going. Yet the game's strong points far outweigh the issues, with a rich RPG filled to the brim with content and masterful writing. At it's best, Inquisition is one of BioWare's best, and the strongest of the series. The game is heartily recommended, although it is suggested getting the game on console, as the PC port struggles mightily with performance issues.

Prefacing this by saying I haven't had any issues running the game on my computer. It would be unfair of me to take off points for problems I'm not having.

If you were hoping for the spiritual successor of Dragon Age Origins that is not what this is, you will be disappointed. I preordered the game and after about 5 hours on release night I was prepared to come here and write a fire

I preordered the game and after about 5 hours on release night I was prepared to come here and write a fire and brimstone condemnation of the game. I eventually decided to hold off for a bit and give the game a chance.

Yeah, the PC controls are garbage and you'll want to play with a controller, but after hitting about the 15 hour mark I suddenly realized "wow, I'm actually having a ton of fun." No this is not the CRPG we were hoping for but if you're able to take a step back and evaluate the game for what it actually is you'll see that it really is a fun and exciting game with interesting stories and characters and a metric CRAPTON of content to explore.

Now that I'm about 50 hours in and still have a ton of stuff to do I can definitely say I feel like I got my money's worth of entertainment with this game. No it's not perfect but it's fun and has enough content that I'm satisfied with the game.

Pros: Nightmare is a lot of fun. This is really where the party-based RPG shines, in tactical combat.
Performance is great after I tuned down the settings for my old PC.

As an avid Bioware fan this game really was make or break for me, Dragon Age 2 wasn't a bad game but it was lazy, with the long time between releases Bioware HAD to get this right. They did. They did. From the moment you step into character creation this game really blows you away, the scenery and graphics are beautiful, the characters offer a wide variety of personalities and are all for the most part memorable, this includes party members and advisers, plus a few side characters along the way. The decisions you have to make are ambiguous and morally difficult and, perhaps most importantly, the game play is fun.

That doesn't mean the game has no flaws, side quests are generally quite tedious with little or no story behind them and despite the delayed release bugs are fairly abundant but that can be forgiven given the scope of the game. The story can be fairly poorly paced at times and the ending doesn't really have the epic feeling that the rest of the game deserves. However none of these are concerns in abundance and if you are a fan of RPGs then this game will give you countless hours of fun, especially if there is a completionist in you.

OK, why all the hate? I finally created a metacritic account to leave some feedback. I am 10 hours in (really 8 I guess with a re-roll) and I don't get all the hate for this game.

Is it DAO? No, it's not. The controls are definitely not PC first but they're not horrible, certainly not worth a "0" rating by any stretch. From reading some of the hate reviews here you would think that

Is it DAO? No, it's not. The controls are definitely not PC first but they're not horrible, certainly not worth a "0" rating by any stretch. From reading some of the hate reviews here you would think that the tactical view is useless and that you're forced to play it like a click fest. Not true.

List of common complaints with rebuttal:

Claim: The tactical view stays centered on your character
False - You can move the camera freely. Look at the key mappings or take 2 minutes to Google it for crying out loud! You can move with WSQE and even better by holding shift and moving your mouse! Sure it's not mouse/screen boundary movement but give me a break! You're a PC gamer and can't handle having to press a key to move the camera?

Claim: You have to hold a button to auto-attack
False - In tactical view (you know, the one where you claim you can't move the camera) your controlled character will happily auto attack without holding any keys and will move to the target to continue auto-attacking.

    Claim: Characters ignore orders
False* - At least not that I have seen. When in tactical view, I can command characters to take specific actions and they do it.

The only combat complaint I have so far is the limited zoom out distance and collision in tactical view. little annoying but totally learnable. Once I figured out how to use the tactical view as the devs intended it I have been blasting through fights on hard (or whatever the level is below Nightmare)

That's all for now. I'll update my review (if I can?) after playing some more.

My 3 main gripes about it are:
    - Tactical combat is not tactical at all. Tactical camera is pretty much impossible to use and character abilities aimed to give you control over the battlefield are not that good either. I have never been able to funnel enemies in a meaningful way or use crowd control spells in order to take control of the battlefield.

    - Quest design is poor and ripped off from MMOs. The majority of the quests are exploration tasks aimed to force you to traverse the zones in order to find hidden locations or objects. Story missions are rare and pretty much absent if you go outside the main story-line. Even quests given by your companions involve collecting objects and little more. In 2014 players deserve better quest design.

    - Free roaming and exploration are in direct contrast with the story driven content. I want to complete the game, do all the quests and collect all the achievements, but doing that means also doing all the find-X-things quests that drive me away from the story. When I go back to the council room and I trigger the next story moment I usually find it difficult to remember what I was doing story wise.

I wasn't going to buy another BioWare product after getting burned with the SWTOR, ME3 and DA2 fiascos, but my daughter talked me into it. I have been pleasantly surprised. It certainly has it's flaws and warts, which include:

1, The campaign is stuffed full of MMORPG grind quests. 2. Too many generic FedEx quests. 3. Bad tactical/party controls. 4. The stupid ME dialog

1, The campaign is stuffed full of MMORPG grind quests.
    2. Too many generic FedEx quests.
    3. Bad tactical/party controls.
    4. The stupid ME dialog wheel where, all too frequently, what you say is a surprise to you because it doesn't even remotely match the option.
    5. The 'open world' isn't that open and is more like a bunch of really big rooms with artificial movement constraints rather than the openness of a Morrowind or Skyrim.
    6. The jumping controls and platforms are so bad that the minor jumping puzzles scattered about are nearly impossible.
    7. The inventory and save systems both suck.

But the game, despite the flaws, has been very enjoyable. It's amazingly good looking on my computer (top of the line video) and it's been relatively bug and crash free for me, though it does crash hourly on my daughter's computer for reasons we don't understand.

It can be a little lagish, despite my i7 processor, but nothing terrible, just the odd pause every now and then. But most of the time I get great frame-rates with no stuttering despite having the graphics turned way up.

The world, which is really a bunch of big rooms, is still amazingly good looking and, hands down, beats every other CRPG I've played in looks. The best part was the ocean which is, simply put, the best rendered ocean in any game I've ever played. Ever. Regardless of genre. t's amazing and a far cry from the joke water of SWTOR some of their other titles.

The main quest does a great job of tying in DA:O and DA2 into a uniform whole. Many of the non-FedEx side quests go well beyond 'mere-filler' are very interesting. The dialog, when it's not coming out of left-field, and NPCs are really well done. The crafting system is enjoyable and not overly tedious.

My rating rating is 80/100 because of the MMO-grind elements and some gratuitous padding with FedEx quests.. My daughter, who isn't a driven completionist, gives it a 95/100 since she doesn't let herself get sucked into the MMO-like aspects..

Despite numerous shortcomings, the new BioWare project is undoubtedly worth your attention. One of the best RPGs of 2014.
