Genuinely my favorite game of all time. I won't bother to counter the meta-reviews some are partaking in - either you will enjoy this game (possibly to the extent I do, possibly less so) or you will be made incapable of doing so by an irrational bias against BioWare and it's current design idiom. In the latter case, there's nothing to be done and I won't bother arguing with zealots.

For those who aren't predisposed to despise the game, there's a great deal to enjoy here. It is absolutely true that the minor quests are of a more 'MMO-style', and whether or not that's to your taste is something you'll have to decide for yourself. I personally found them engaging enough that I completed almost all of the content the game had to offer. Moreover, these quests are a counterpoint to the grand scale of the main plotline, which contains some of the best secondary character writing I've ever seen in a game. Narratively, this game compares very well with Mass Effect 2.

The combat in this game is also enjoyable, and if you play on a higher difficult will reward care and micro-management. If you'd prefer a more 'cinematic' style of combat, dialing the difficulty down to normal will reward you.

There's little else to be said here. Give the game a go. While you may not find it as swoon-inducing as I did, I think you'll like it if you come at it with an open mind.

I cant believe how many bad user reviews it has got,its just sad how people dont even gave it a chance and its funny that some people gave it a 0 out of 10,which is just crazy, its much better than origins!
Graphics are amazing, but we all know what frostbite is capable of and they use the same vegetation engine that Avatar used called speedtree...
Sound is amazing, when you hear your first dragon scream you will be amazed how real it sounds, music is top notch!
Characters are great, every character has its own story and characteristics, but thats nothing new with bioware, they are beautifully written...
Overall 10 out of 10!Its up there with the best rpgs ever made!

I have hated all other Dragon Age games, but this one is the most amazing game I have every played in my life. The feeling of growing your empire is so satisfying, and every character feels so real and well-acted. The story and pacing is amazing, and I am enjoying the game so much.
The UI is a bit awkward, but feels the same as Mass Effect

Fantastic game and money well spent. I've put in 150 hours into this game and regret none of it. Fantastic story, which is rare this day and age. Game play was also extremely well done. Only issue I had with the game was the glitches, which is common among large scale games like Elder Scrolls and Fallout.

The inclusion of the mostly open world system was the biggest step forward for Dragon Age as a whole, finding the perfect balance between the way-too-small and repetitive map areas of DAII, and the completely open world model that would make the game quite difficult to play. It carries all of the staples of the modern polished RPG, and presents it in such a beautiful and complete experience that it is my personal Game of the Year. Bioware really has their hands on gold if they can keep this pace with the sequel.

You can craft to upgrade gear (yes, you have to collect resources and obtain recipes, which frankly got me curious about the game to begin with), you get a mount that you can upgrade with its own barding and plate gear, there's endless quests and the story lore is quite engrossing. I am completely surprised by this game. I expected more of the same console-games-applied-to-PCs as an afterthought.

Couple that with three other adventurers that you can mix and match as you discover new ones, who constantly add to the storyline with occasional dialogue with each other, and who help you as you quest, and well, this game is a delightful surprise for me. I'd highly recommend buying it. Best solo-player game I've played in ages.

I've never written a game review on MC before but I decided to create an account and write one for this game. DA Inquisition is another Bioware game I purchased that was worth it's weight in gold. I read all these bad reviews and can't help but say to myself "get a gaming controller for pc." Yes playing with mouse and keyboard is annoying and the controls are Bonky to say the least. Spend a little bit of cash to grab a PC gaming controller and this game is absolutely phenomenal. I loved DA Origins and I feel this game is equally as good if not better.

Great story, fun dialog, fun quests, great crafting, Great cut scenes, Awesome fighting, Amazing character customization and many more great components. I felt that I could really get into my character and immerse myself in a fantasy world within the dragon age universe (even more so then the previous DA's).

Bottom line: If you loved origins, you have a gaming controller or are looking to purchase one, and you're not a whinny Cheetos eating "I hate the world and everything in it" type... You'll love this game and it's Role playing elements. I'd buy it two more times over if I had to and still love it.

This game is not for those who like to rush through and shoot 'em up and get big loot rewards (although there is nice loot). It's a game for people who want to get completely engrossed with a compelling storyline, have options to craft items, decorate your palace, manipulate political intrigue and diplomacy, or even fall in love.

I have been playing this game for six hours a day for a good month now, taking my time and going through all the character interactions/dialogue and I cannot remember a time when I was so captivated by the lore and the story. This game is DEFINITELY worth the money for those who care more about complex layers of story and adventure, rather than straight first-person shooter type games. Playing this game is like reading a chapter in a favourite novel, it's a page turner. Bioware has hired some very talented writers who make the storyline so engrossing you can't wait to see what happens next. And better still, the choices you make as a player are blended seamlessly into the overall plot, regardless of what you pick.

Actual setup for gameplay comes in three choices: casual, normal and hardcore. Normal is pretty straight forward -- the fighting is fun, but not overly challenging (you have to use skills/combos to beat the monster, but I've played some games where you mercilessly wipe over and over before you finally win -- I have not experienced that in this game), casual is for those who want the story not the fighting, and have yet to try hardcore (I plan to). The maps are huge and graphically beautiful, the choice of party members diverse, the gear interesting (ties in with lore/storyline) and the choice are infinite: What path you choose ultimately affects your outcome.

The UI itself will be instantly familiar to anyone who has played an MMO. Finally a software company has given PC gamers a proper setup, rather than the afterthought it appears in most other console-heavy games -- where you have to manipulate keyboard settings to accommodate the game, rather than the other way around. Interaction is easy and innate, and that lets you get into the game quite easily and fluidly.

I bought this game a month ago, I'm still playing it loyally every single day. I'm currently at level 18 and there's still so much left to do! (Level cap is 20).

I love this game SO much I wish they'd release an expansion, or even consider making it an official MMO (it has that much content -- the only thing it's missing is a few 24-man raids and it's good to go). I think it would become a massive hit as a true MMO (you can group up with friends, but it's limited seating). Bioware, if you read this, please consider an expansion to let me keep playing my beloved character.

TDLR: This game is DEFINITELY worth the money.

(P.S. I see a lot of reviews complaining of framerate issues. I'm playing on a five year old quad and have had zero issues).

Most of the reviews focus too much on the little things that hurt their sensitive feelings. I've played TONS of mmorpg's with years of in depth gameplay and dragon age inquisition is a TON of fun for many reason. First, the breathtaking soundtrack is absolutely amazing on my 5.1 Surround sound that i feel like i entered a whole new medieval era by loading the game, feels like i'm at the movie theater. Second, The graphics graphics graphics, so much shine, sparkle, and flare every fight feels exciting, you can tell by the amazing graphics what class and role a character is without having to mouse over their icons, it's wonderful. Thirdly, the story has many twist and turns, so for you negative reviewers who can't keep up with a realistic medieval style story line which shifts with multiple running roles, you must have had a hard time reading in school. This game grips you hard and was worth every penny of mine. There is a small learning curve and i mean small that was all, once you get over the crybaby hump that all these kids are ranting about you learn there is a lot at play. Small things like treasure placement, and a easier way to loot isn't a reason to break this game down. As a mmorpg for the next gen console's and the pc it's easily carving the way for future mmorpg's and stands alone on it's own. Reviews are high because hardcore gamers look beneath the rubble exterior to find what's inside and this game has all the basis covered with a very well polished graphics, realism, and great soundtrack. Every fight feels epic as hell and intense. Turn up your volume!!!!!!!!!!!!! Expand

DA:I is better and worse than DA:O Because it's Graphically brilliant and plays brilliantly with nice Dragon fights. You have your own Castle and Troops and so own. The down part is the romance isn't as good as DA:O but much better than DA2 as you only got kissed 3 times in that.

In all honestly they want all games to be practically the same and over react if anything is slightly different. The RPG is highly endangered to this homogenization effect. For this reason Metacritic is not entirely the most reliant, because niches get attacked by the wider audience. This is a niche game, don't doubt that for a second. Bioware willingly creating niche games shows they are not nearly as lost as people like to say. The real issue is that the genre RPG should be split into more than one genre, so that people don't buy a game expecting one type of experience and are shocked to find something else. If you liked Baldur's Gate than you will appreciate this game. If you are a general fan of old school style RPG's you know by know that developers try new things with each installment. That exploration and questing is the best part of the experience. That you can't fully grasp how exceptional these games are until you've played them for 50 hours, and even then you are just barely getting started. If you are the type of person who likes to play one game for months on end, than this is the game for you. If you would rather get something down in one setting, or jump into some quick matches than this game will not please you by any means. If you get bored easily and need something shiny and new to entertain you every day and are likely to have a tantrum if you don't get it, than this is not the game for you. It will not mix well with any semblance of a casual audience. It is not a game for the impatient, but for those who like to take the scenic route. Go for skyrim or call of duty if you are looking for a more easy pick up easy put down experience. Not knocking those games, just saying they have a different design to their core. This game is meant to be experienced over many, many hours. It is meant for you to get lost in the confusion, the experience, to seek answers and discover new things. It is massive, intense, beautiful, inspiring and thoroughly immersive. A great accomplishment for bioware as a whole. Expand

Why is the average user score so low? Because in modern AAA Gaming a game is supposed to hold your hand, and spoon feed everything you need to figure out the game.

Dragon Age Inquisition does what Origins was meant to do, and goes back to the roots of CRPGs that BioWare revolutionized in the 1990s. Most people who don't like this game couldn't figure out how to get out of the Hinterlands, a massive, sprawling open-world area that introduces the game play and the plot. And the best part is, in terms of world development, it is the lamest part of the game. But it is merely an intro area, and there are 11 more like it, that all are loaded with beautiful lush environments perfectly textured on the amazing Frostbite 3 engine. You can explore every corner of Thedas, deserts, mountains, dungeons, caves, jungles, forests, river basins, coastal vistas, foothills, marshlands, etc. etc. etc.

The insurmountable amount of side-content rivals Baldur's Gate 2, though it is not as high quality, it is much higher quality than many who think it is chock full of fetch-quests, which it is. But why rate a game based on the chores that aren't required to finish it? Should I write a negative review of Assassin's Creed 2 because of the achievement to collect all 100 of those flags? No, because you don't have to do it, it's optional content. The optional, open-world areas are loaded with awesome puzzle quests, treasure hunts and companion loyalty missions that are great fun.

However this game takes the cake with its main quest. The best cast of companions I have encountered in a BioWare game since Baldur's Gate 2, and definitely the best villain I have encountered since Baldur's Gate 2 as well. Also, and this is the most important part to me, this is the best gameplay I've encountered in a BioWare game since... yes that's right, Baldur's Gate 2. This fantastic sequel was nothing if not the worthy spiritual successor to Baldur's Gate 2 that Dragon Age Origins was supposed to be. The gameplay comes damn close to being as good as Dungeons & Dragons on the infinite engine. It combines the tactical camera style and complicated levelling systems of Origins with the fast paced and immersive style of Dragon Age 2, and adds in many great new mechanics, like a crafting system that is likely the best I've ever seen in a video game.

The main quest is loaded with top-notch writing, and an excellent decision tree, this game's story is akin to Witcher 2 in that certain missions are entirely different quests altogether, depending on what decisions you made in a previous quest. The quests are all generated with a fantastic environment design, ethereal atmosphere from an amazing soundtrack and well themed sound effects and visuals. This games story missions were as immersive as the ones in Mass Effect 1 and 2.

Last but not least, the conclusion to this games' story at the end of Trespasser features jaw-dropping lore-exposition and a plot twist that gave me the same emotion feels as the ending to The Last of Us, and has me more than a little bit excited for Dragon Age 4.

    Pros:
Graphics -11/10 (DAAAYUM) the best graphics of any RPG to this day, Andromeda might have richer textures but the environment design of it and any other RPG bows to Inquisition.
Game play -10/10 Dragon Fights are as epic as they are in Baldur's Gate 2, no... they are even more epic.
Story -10/10 -I regretted a decision so badly for the first time since the first Mass Effect game.
Side content -9/10 -The only reason it's not as good as Baldur's Gate 2, but this is still the best RPG I have played in 14 years, and ranks among my 3 favorites of all time. BioWare has done it again.

    Cons:
None but the blighted opinions of nitpicking A-holes who were sad that this game didn't hold their hand through it all, this game is a true, hardcore CRPG. Witcher 3 treats you like a 5 year old and guides you all the way through white orchard. Dragon Age Inquisition is a hardcore game that assumes you are smart enough to figure out how to get past the Hinterlands, which apparently was a bold assumption given all the people who can't figure it out. That's the only reason Witcher 3 has a higher userscore.

The good news is that is that DA:I is a very good and fun game. The bad news is that it has ONE major flaw. It's a pretty big flaw, unfortunately, but I'll talk about that later. First, the good things. DA:I addresses the complaints DA:2 received about the geographical diversity. The maps are very varied in DA:I. Desert, grass fields, snow, storm islands, jungles, there's everything. The areas are huge and well-designed, it's obvious they put a lot of effort into them.

The main story is great and has several twists. Plenty satisfying choices to make. No spoilers in this review, but there are some ways DA:I connects with the other two games and I absolutely loved that. It truly feels like a shared universe. There are also several moments in the story when you sit on a throne and you can cast a judgment and decide the fate of characters. A minor thing, but it adds flavor. It makes you feel like the leader of the Inquisition.

I also love the new companions, interacting with them, learning more about them and doing their personal quests. I especially liked Cole, who is a unique character. The combat has been upgraded and it's fluid and satisfying. Class specializations actually feel like specializations and they change the feel of the combat. I played as a Knight Enchanter and I loved it, I felt very powerful.

One new feature in DA:I that I didn't expect to like that much is armor customization. More specifically, dyeing your armor and changing the materials it's made from. I had a LOT of fun with that. I really wish more games had that. I also had fun customizing and crafting equipment for my companions. And there is a lot of variety in armors. More specifically, mage armor. I generally play as a mage and there wasn't a SINGLE cool robe in DA:O.. In DA:2 they finalyl added cool robes and in DA:i there are even more robes, and you can customize their appearance!

I also liked customizing the appearance of the fortress. It's highly customizable. I played as an Elven Mage, so I decorated it with Dalish and Circle Tower themes. I also built a Mage tower, a garden and an infirmary. It's minor and mainly visual stuff, but it enriches the experience. It helps with the immersion into the world.

Now let's talk about that one major flaw. Most side content is collect shards and kill enemies... There are only a few interesting side quests. And this is a trend I've sadly noticed in recent games. Those huge maps I was talking about feel kind of empty. The NPCs can feel lifeless and there isn't much interaction with them. It's unfortunate. This is the worst thing about this game. But the other areas are great. I still had a lot of fun playing this. It took me over 200 hours to do pretty much everything. Again, just like in the case of DA:2, I feel like the criticisms are way too harsh.

    Seriously, give Inquisition a chance.

The great mix of Skyrim-type action RPG and slower, turn-based RPG like Transistor and similar to Fire Emblem. It's a little more action-y than Origins, and even though I generally prefer pure turn-based games, I was entertained and engaged with the combat system throughout the game.

Rest assured, a stunning success like this shows that Bioware is back after the SWTOR mistake (we all wanted KOTOR 3) and the misfire at the end of Mass Effect 3 (which I still loved anyway). Now, we can all look forward to Mass Effect 4, and whatever else Bioware has in store for us.

Graphic is superb, combat is fast and iteresting (one of the bright momens in DA2 is combat and here it is even better). The story, so far, is immersive and even side quests are nicely done. Yes, there are a few fetch quests, but show me a game that does not have them, there are classical quests kill mages/templars/thieves in their hideouts, but next to this, you have quests to chart star constellations, craft specific items to help the Inquisition or find a key from undergroud dwarven city.
The only thing I do not like is the tactical camera. But as it is an optional part of the game I simply do not use it. I have also never used the top view in DAO except for two riddles. The AI of my companions is also surprisingly good. Ranged characters stay in range, fighters tunt and go in for a close combat. Overall I am satisfied.

This is a very fun game, and beautiful. I'm coming from having played Origins and Dragon Age 2, as well as the Mass Effect series. Love the characters, love the fighting, love the environments. No more repeated maps! Huge world! Problems I had include the mounts being useless and stopping party banter, feeling like non-main questline quests didn't matter, and the ending is weak.

From a story/character perspective, this game is incredible. It takes the epic story of Dragon Age Origins and the interesting and multifaceted characters from Dragon Age II (the characters being one of the few things that the sequel actually did right) and combines them to great effect. Even more so than other games with a similar story formula, you really feel like your character is just some ordinary person thrust into greatness, whether it's wanted or not.

As for the gameplay, well, like I said, they gutted the tactical system so people who REALLY enjoyed setting up party member tactics are probably disappointed (so disappointed, in fact, that most of them are ignoring all the things this game does right and giving a 0 score just because of that one thing). On the other hand, if that one aspect of DAO didn't appeal to you, then DAI does just about everything right. Combat is fluid, controls are responsive, and it's just plain fun.

And then there's the graphics. Not the best, obviously, but then BioWare has NEVER been the best at graphics. They've actually got a pretty horrible track record in that department, stretching all the way back to even before the first Mass Effect. That said, the graphics in this game are definitely a massive leap forward from their previous offerings.

I'm glad they went with a more open-world design for this game. It definitely benefits from that, since they decided to go big when it came to area design. Just the Hinterlands area around Redcliffe is bigger than the entirety of DA II (and possibly most or all of DAO as well), and that's only a small fraction of the game world. And these massive areas aren't empty; they're filled with content to explore and enemies to fight.

All in all, I'd say that the only downside of this game, at least from my perspective, is the obviously console-inspired menus. The interface is one of the many things that Origins did much better than Dragon Age II, but one of the only things that Inquisition didn't improve on.

That being said, I have to give DA: Inquisition a 9. I think that the ability system is fairly bland (like DA:O), the tactical combat camera is very poorly implemented, and they seem to have made a mistake in putting too much cookie cutter content into the first major area (Hinterlands). Outside of those issues it is a beautiful and engaging piece of work.

The world is extremely large and detailed, the story is fun and enjoyable, combat isn't as strategic or difficult (even on nightmare), as I would have preferred, but its still fun and doesn't really seem to get boring.

One last bit I wanted to mention. I have seen some people upset with the fact that there are some 'MMO' elements. I take this to mean re-spawning baddies and materials. I can see how this may put some people off, but I enjoy it, as it makes the world seem less dead (can you ever really clear out all the bandits?), and it allows much more experimentation in crafting gear (you're not paranoid about using those high end materials 'perfectly').

TLDR: Its not the perfect 3D Baldur's Gate 2 that I've wanted for years, but its a great game in and of itself. DA2 was truly nothing cash grab garbage, but DA: Inquisition is worth your time and money. Pick it up.

The great dialog and interesting characters are Bioware's most consistent deliverable, and DA:I continues that tradition. The graphics are great, a real generational leap over previous DA games, so please ignore the obnoxious comments to the contrary.

On the other hand, the UI is pretty consolitis-infected. DA:O UI was so much better in that regard, where equipping and leveling up was quick and easy. DA:I's UI is a usability nightmare, where every screen has a tiny number of options, and you are constantly scrolling through because you only see 4 lines of text on screen at once. Camera control and movement is another area of missed opportunity (no click to move, WTF?). It means I want to spend as little time in the character menus etc. as possible, only jumping in when I absolutely have to.

It probably deserves to be called RPG of the year, despite the modest flaws.

I have played every BioWare RPG since Baldur's Gate, and I have enjoyed all of them to different degrees. One thing I wish people would realize is that BioWare will never make the same game twice- they will always attempt to do something different with the next game. Sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn't. It really works here, and I LOVE the way this game comes together.

I wonder about the people lining up to give "0" reviews for this game. I have played exactly ONE game I would give a zero- Deadly Towers for NES. I sometimes think that people who spam zero reviews are people who need to leave the house and get a life, because no game should ever crush your spirit or enrage you to the point that you need to make it your mission to tell people how horrible it is, as if the game is a personal affront to you because you need to learn a new way of controlling characters on the screen.

Let me clear this up for people: It is only UNPLAYABLE if you have zero aptitude for learning new control schemes. Yes, you will suck at the beginning, because that's how it works when you play new games for the first time. And then you will get better and forget about the controls, and the game is simply awesome.

    Enjoy!

Let's start with the negatives first.

    * Playing this game on keyboard on mouse? You're gonna have a bad time (for now, until mods maybe). * You're heading out of Haven and want to clear the ENTIRE Hinterlands first? You're gonna have a bad time (it takes at least !20 HOURS!). * You can min/max like a boss and want to play Normal? You can probably get a better time playing Hard+.

    * You can min/max like a boss and want to play Normal?
You can probably get a better time playing Hard+.

    Now for my mindset:

    * I STRONGLY dislike EA.
Can't help it, they've destroyed so many franchises, killed so many companies, they deserve their hate.
    * Expectations after DA2.
After Dragon Age 2, I was also expecting more reused maps, no story (at all) and basically more of a Kingdoms of Amalur type of game (which isn't that bad imho but nothing to be proud of).
    * Dragon Age: Origins is the last gem Bioware made pre EA. (crazy amount of hours).
You can clearly see the amount of EA tampering was kept to a minimum (as the game was already "finished" when EA assumed control).
This reversed in Dragon Age 2 where they tried to stomp out a sequel as fast as they could and it showed.

What I got this time (100+ hours in) :

Game Of The Year 2014 :)

    * Gamepad gameplay like Dragon Age 2
But improved, I remember not being able to play DA2 on the PC because the gameplay screams gamepad at you.
Don't torture yourself with keyboard and mouse, accept the game for what it is or don't play.
    * AMAZING Voice Acting (and audio in general).
Thought the visuals were good? Check that audio.
I remember stepping into the first INN (Haven) and suddenly hearing voiced songs played by the bard, Yeah the game pretty much had me from there.
Voice acting is getting a separate mention because it's just that spot on.
    * Size
I went in thinking this game would be finished with 20 hours maybe, 30 if I was lucky.
Here I am running around at 100+ hours, still not finished and (more importantly) STILL enjoying every moment.
    * Bioware Characters.
It's their forte and it seems they haven't lost it yet (luckily).
All characters are believable and have more depth then I initially figured they would have.
    * Visuals
I thought I wouldn't add it, but they're just that good.
You will find yourself being caught in the environment multiple times.
My first encounter with the lightning dragon stood out for me the most (truly felt like a living breathing beast, the others maybe not so much).

Whatever rating this game "deserves", to me, it's clearly better than Dragon Age 2.
I'm now looking forward to seeing if Witcher 3 can beat this game next year :)

The game plays like a "single player MMO" and apparently at some point it was designed as a multiplayer game. In doing so, EA/Bioware might have stumbled upon something really cool, as this kind of world design gives the player a lot of freedom and at the same time, it still has that single player power-fantasy charm that no MMO can give you (with thousands of copies of you running around and being told that they too are "The One").

I enjoyed trying new things like the chance to play politics in Orlesian ball.

The addition of more races was excellent. My main was a dalish female, and felt it added depth to several game quests. I was also pleasantly surprised to find a romance which was not separate fluff but was clearly written to enhance the main story.

Replayability of game is good. I finished my first round around 70 hours, and had four areas I had not visited at all. There are so many companions that it is impossible to get to known them all during a single playthrough.

I was unsure what I would think of not being able to heal between fights and having to rely on potions. I played as a mage, and the chance ended up being positive one because it released me from obligation to pick healing spells or bring the healer on every quest. Overall, the game gives much room to choose companions based on personality instead of roles. Rogues, for example, aren't necessary compared to Origins or DA2 because there aren't as many locks. And party with three mages was actually viable option at many areas on normal difficulty.

I liked the crafting system. For armor, player can pick the colors and features by choosing which metals/leathers/cloth to use. The color schemes were my favorite! I never got hang of herbalism or potions, probably because I didn't need them.

As a PC mouse + keyboard player, I had trouble with controls at first but once I got hang of them (like using the right mouse button to look around instead of left), it was ok. Having only 9 quickslots for spells was annoying, since it limited my options during the fights. The game has some problems like crashing during the certain fight in the beginning of the game, but nothing major.

    - no more wave combat except for the rifts where it actually makes sense
    - stunning graphics
    - more holistic subquests which fit well into the main plot and/or the area
    - combat is fluent and fun but with less button mashing

    The changes (compared to DAO):
    - bigger maps
    - consequences to your actions are reflected directly in the game and not only after the game is finished
    - while areas are bigger, they are also open. Making it easy to come back for an unfinished subquest. No need to backtrack over large areas (like in the deep roads or the circle tower) to hand in the quest or to find the item you forgot

    The good parts it kept:
    - companions are interesting and well written, like in every Bioware game
    - main quest is your standard save the world, recruit everyone you can find for the cause
    - music score is really great
    - the companion banter is.. like it always has been, fun fun fun :)

Things I did not like so much
    - since this is a semi-openworld game the main story will progress a lot slower, there is too much to do for a completionist
    - graphics are fantastic, but you need a very good card to run everything on high with 60fps. My GTX 760 manages above 60 only with AA on low. But to be honest even without AA the game looks more than good.
    - balance issues, at least at the start of the game you need a healer or the combat turns into a nightmare very quickly. Even on normal.
    - Elves still look like aliens :(

However it is a wonderful game with so much to experience it is surely worth a really good score. I love the storyline and the companions and the romances are wonderful, no real nut cases thank goodness! (apart from Sera and Blackwell, hehe)

The armours are detailed and attractive but not enough designs-Bioware modders could have fixed that one for you.

Not having a mirror of transformation is a shame, again modders Bioware?

Hairstyles are dreadful!!! OMG hello??? Modder's would have fixed this one within hours of game release!

The weapon designs are limited; as are schematics- Modder's could have sorted this.

Storage is non existent in the whole beautiful castle/keep. Yes I'm saying it again...modder's could have helped with this.

I love this game, its a fantastic effort and there is so much to love; graphics, happy ending with a hug from love interest (sigh oh you did so well there Bioware) interesting and fun quests, great crafting and gathering materials is really lovely in the beautiful open world environments.

I have put in 200 hours and I'm hoping to have at least 2 more play-throughs yet to experience other romance arcs. You really get to know your companions in a total different way when you follow through the romances with them.

I also think its a complete and utter shame people have scored this game so low. It really is worth a good score. There is so much to see and do.

A lot of people expect Bioware to just chug out clone after clone of Baldur's Gate, rather than attempting to create something new, and the idea that anybody could actually appreciate games that have other qualities means is absurd to them, which is why they brand all positive reviews of DA3 as being a result of journalists being paid off by publishers.

It's a rather sad state of affairs that breeds monster conspiracies like #gamergate, and it happens equally as much in response to arty games with unusual concepts getting good reviews.

I've learned to generally just ignore the user scores on metacritic and just read journalist's reviews as they tend to bear at least some resemblance to the actually quality of the video game they are reviewing.

Many characters and environmental features look real. Unfortunately, real sometimes looks bad. You get to see imperfections and great effects at the same time.

Audio - 10: I noticed a good deal of the ambient music reminds me of the Hobbit movies. Very good and timely scores. Maybe one of the better scores I have heard in a game.

Performance - 8: I play this with a 680M (mobile nvidia 680) and 3.4 ghz Ivy Bridge quad core. Nothing fancy here. I play it at near ultra settings for texture, shadows, water effects, and lighting. In highly congested areas like the crossroads area frame rate drops quite a bit, but performance is otherwise comparable with Skyrim or The Witcher 2. Load times have been excellent with a lower end SSD drive.

Reliability - 9: I consistently play under long sessions. Load times do not increase. I had one video related crash after leaving it up for eight hours. The clipping issues mentioned in other reviews rarely ever happen. When standing inside Leliana's tent with the camera outside, sometimes the top of the tent cuts off the view in the conversation. I noticed when keeping the camera over the shoulder, this almost never happens.

Gameplay - 9: This game is like a mix of The Witcher 2, Dragon Age: Origins, Ultima, and SWTOR. I think the creators looked for the best features in prior games and meshed them together into one game. There is more to do in this game than any other game I have ever played. Some quests are heavily involved, many side quests are the usual hunt and fetch, while others fall in between. If there is a knock on it all, there is almost too much to do. I am not sure what to tackle next. Where the creators excelled was in the integration of the various modes such as the side quests, main quest, war room, etc. into one seamless experience. It all feels very organic. I found a tower ran by bandits, defeated the leader, looted the joint, found a clue that pointed to a larger organization overseeing the bandits, and this creates a quest automatically. You may choose to move forward or not; it is not as cut and dry as prior RPGs.

Combat - 8: Combat is actually decent. The difficulty on hard is tremendously challenging. I start every game on hard first before going to nightmare or insanity. Bioware/EA nodded to RPGs of old by allowing the player to fail. I stepped into some very difficult areas early on and was slaughtered. If you want to micromanage your characters, you can. If you want them to manage themselves, you can. I think folks miss the tactics options in prior Dragon Age games, but they were actually redundant. Certain skills will always get used so why program them manually? I do notice the pause and play features come in handy when fighting the most difficult battles. Most of the time, I just play my main character and let my companions do what they do best.

Story - 9: The main story is great so far. It is well integrated and thought out. The start was a little rushed in setting up the main character's role. As I mentioned before there is so much to do, there is not enough story to keep the player completely engaged. In other words, you may have to enjoy the side quests and crafting systems as they stand because they take an astronomical amount of time. The characters are more realistic than in prior games. Some of the characters like the Warden and Cullen are fantastic and well written. A couple characters are absolutely annoying, but you get the good with the bad. Still the whole sequence of events, the writing, and the companions appear significantly more mature than in prior games. There is a hint of realism at every turn in the story.

Summary - 9: I would put this against any modern RPG today. As matter of fact, I am not certain there is an RPG like this today. If you are looking for Baldurs Gate or Dragon Age: Origins, you will not find it here. It is not Mass Effect or the Witcher either. It is a great game with an emphasis on environment, exploration, and realism. I think the user reviews would be significantly better if we treated this like a brand new game instead of the supposed successor to DA:O and BG.

I'm 20 hours into the game and it's fantastic. Everything you would want in an RPG is here. It's also all very solid, well done, and fully realized. It really seems as if Bioware was determined not to make any part of it half-assed at all. Also, to allow the player to do everything how he or she wants to.

Don't mind the people giving this game a 0. SOME might have actually played some of it but, they are probably shallow, simple-minded gamers who just can't handle a game of complexity. They probably can't handle very much reading either. I guess if instead it was a children's pop-up book or something they would enjoy it.

I haven't experienced any crashes (yet), but I'd take a point off for very slow loadtimes on nearly every screen. Skyrim and similar games load in about 5-10 seconds on my rig, whereas DAI is taking a minimum of 30 seconds and once took about 3 minutes, to the point I thought the game had crashed.

Camera and controls are a bit wonky, but not as bad as other ports I've played.

The characters were better than I was expecting coming out of DA2.

Will update this up or down as I progress, but wanted to plant a flag that personal experience isn't as buggy/crashy as other reviews are indicating.

It makes for interesting battles, especially against those pesky dragons. Of course, as you progress through to the end, dragons eventually become more sport than game-ending frustration but your first foray into dragon slaying might make you feel like breaking your controller.

Graphically, it's beautiful... as long as your PC can handle it. One thing I do appreciate is the resolution slider (wish more games had this!) which allows you to custom tweak the variables along side the regular options. This is a HUGE game, and 150 hours in, I still haven't fully explored every area, and there are still a few main quests left. That's some pretty good bang for your buck. It definitely needs a good patch to fix some of the issues, but after all this time it only crashed twice (after LOOOONG play sessions) so I'd say it's fairly stable. Final verdict: get it and start exploring. Taking one point off for bugs, otherwise this is GOTY material for me.

You run around and find stuff and do fetch quests etc. also it's buggy, my voice changed because of something I changed in the game, and it takes awhile to load sometimes and the A.I. is bad.... So why a 9? Because it's still freaking awesome! I really think these guys tried to put a quality product together and it shows. I like the characters, I want to know more about them, I like the way they designed the armor and weapons and I like the variety of locations and ambiances to those locations. The second you get bored of the fetch quests, you go talk to your companions and they have great things to say. There's an almost Shakespearean element to the Orlaiseans and there's always something else to do when you get bored. The fact that anyone gave this game a 0 or 1 is just wrong. Unless you couldn't run it, it totally doesn't deserve it. It's a labor of love, I think it may have been rushed but nothing game-breaking so far and the story to me is engaging. Glad I didn't follow user reviews on this one. Best RPG I've played to-date, and I am a RPG-aholic. Really feels like a combination of the Elder Scrolls games (big, immersive, sandbox world to explore), the Dragon Age games (fantastic character development/narratives), and Diablo games (twitch combat and progressively-opening lands to explore). I'm less psyched about the twitchy combat, it's the one element of the Dragon Age universe I feel took a step backwards into "we're a console-driven world now!" territory, and detracts from the overall experience (hence my subtraction of one star). But that's not enough to throw the baby out with the bathwater, as so many user reviewers are doing. Yes, Dragon Age has slid away from traditional AD&D components into more console gaming components (as is every other non-indie RPG these days), which basically means more button-mashing, less strategy, but if you can look past this, you will find a world that is enormous, probably the most exploration-worthy world of any RPG to date (including the Elder Scrolls games where you could explore vast stretches without finding anything of note). The graphics, animations, textures, and character and loot models are definitely next-gen, and although there are a few missteps (yes, if you turn the graphics down, the characters get a glossy sheen to them) - but this is a game clearly designed for modern graphics cards and a fairly robust PC. The game is huge, you can pump 200 hours into it easily, which FINALLY puts the DA franchise in the same ballpark as the Elder Scrolls games. The writing is good and the biggest challenge, particularly for players new to the universe, is the overwhelming amount of lore. But for any true RPG'er, this is a positive. You get to feel truly powerful in this game, too, as your character goes from a lowly nobody to a commander of the biggest force in the world, with an enormous fortress to add to and decorate. You also now command two groups of characters - the teammates, as with every other Dragon Age game, whose stories open up and get deeper as you progress - and your advisers, a group of folks who bring stealth, politics, and brute force to the bigger picture and help open up new sections of the map to explore. I'm 70 hours in and I haven't even opened up every map yet. This might just be the greatest RPG made to-date, don't let user reviews talk you out of purchasing the game. It certainly hits all my RPG buttons. Haven't even looked at any of my other games since I got it. Totally immersed and addicted. And, as in all DA games, what you did in the previous games effects what happens in the bigger picture of this game as well. In fact, you might just run into some of your own characters from previous games! Big thumbs up. Expand

Given Bioware's recent track record, I had fairly low expectations for this game. I loved Origins, but hated DA2 to the point where I couldn't even finish it. I bought Inquisition while it was on sale for 30% off on Origin over the holidays, and I was in for an absolutely massive surprise. The prologue sequence absolutely sucked me in like I never would have expected, and from that point onward I found myself hooked.

My biggest gripes early on were, without a doubt, the ungodly load times, however reinstalling the game onto a solid state hard drive largely fixed those.

Graphics wise, the game is visually stunning and I've had very few framerate issues either while running it on max settings with my GTX 760, though I can imagine its quite stressful on less powerful systems.

The controls... prior to playing, I heard from other reviewers that they were horrible on PC, yet I personally never found any issues with them on basic mouse and keyboard. The tactical camera is poorly done, but I literally have almost never used that in any of the Dragon Age games except on very rare occasions.

When I first started playing the game, there were a significant number of bugs which would cause crashes, or my GPU drivers would crash, things such as that. Over a few patches, those bugs have mostly vanished, and the game is quite stable now.

The storyline is certainly not Bioware's best, but it isn't terrible either. I won't talk about it here however because I don't want to spoil it. The characters are a mixed bag however, and there are some them who are absolutely hilarious to have in your party, others you will find yourself wanting to punch. Romance options however, compared to the last game, are rather lacking, unless you are either a straight male/female or gay male. In my case, as a lesbian female, I was stuck with either a ridiculously dressed non-party character, or the most obnoxious party member in the game as my only choices. This isn't a huge issue for me, but I do feel my kind got the short end of the stick in the romance department here. Romances aside, all of the characters have their own unique stories and personalities, as one would expect from a Bioware game, its fairly standard fare here, and a few characters from older games are hanging around as well. As is also typical, the voice acting is excellent.

As a side note, the crafting system in this game is quite excellent as well.

The musical score in this game is spectacular, no complaints about it at all.

All in all, I give it a 9.5 out of 10. This game is definitely well worth the money, and a good reminder that Bioware still can make fantastic games when the scumbags at EA aren't threatening them.

I've read as many negative user reviews as I could stomach and thus far haven't found a single one that wasn't majorly flawed. People are really grasping hard to justify their EA hate on this one. The fact of the matter is, DAI on PC is not a perfect game and has some unfortunately memorable bugs and issues. However, it is still objectively speaking one of the most expansive and ambitious RPGs created in the last decade (maybe more). Personally speaking, it was an extremely enjoyable but not perfect experience.

You all have likely heard about the best parts of DAI over and over by now. The lush landscapes, the wonderful world fleshed out by a who cadre of minor and major characters with superb voice acting, and the by now world-famous storytelling that Bioware has become renowned for, the list goes on and on. What you should also know is a few key features that definitely marr the game a little:

-the character builder is incredibly deep in facial building, but falls completely flat in hairstyles. Look at 20 male characters and I guarantee at least half will be sporting the shaved-sides look because it's one of the only hairstyles that doesn't look awful. And yet there are at least six or seven different kinds of bald head. It's absolutely baffling how this aspect of the character creator could have been so overlooked.

-the decision to make a number of conversations non-cutscene doesn't really make sense to me. Perhaps if we were better able to control the camera angle during these scenes, but the majority are too zoomed out, the audio will shift depending on your distance from the speaker, and overall they just feel much more underwhelming.

-the tactical camera, as I'm sure you've heard but is worth mentioning again, is godawful on the PC. The controls for that were clearly designed for consoles. It must be very frustrating for people playing this on Nightmare since they're going to be spending a lot of time in that mode during combat.

-the mothereffin' Hinterlands. Bioware did a wonderful job in crafting a huge, open starting area *full* of things to do but it became very clear on launch day that way too many people were spending too much time in that area and getting bored because they weren't progressing with the story. The thing is, the way that you progress in story missions is that you build Power as a currency to "pay" for the important missions (for instance, the first story mission after the intro costs 8 power to initiate) and you get Power by doing all sorts of things in the open world, but that isn't so readily explained to you. Tutorializing really could go a long way toward making the earlier hours more streamlined. It was so necessary that even Bioware's Facebook page felt it necessary to release a post basically saying "LEAVE THE HINTERLANDS!"

But for all the faults, all the bugs, this is still one of my favorite RPGs in memory. Games like Skyrim, the Witcher 2, Mass Effect etc all have their place but the depth of the storytelling, open world, crafting, and exploration that is Dragon Age Inquisition sets it apart. I find people hating on this game for the stupidest of reasons, the worst I've seen probably being the fact that you can hook up with a Qunari companion. It was nicknamed "Riding the Bull" and garnered such masterpieces as "what a surprise, a game made by SJWs is complete garbage". I can't even begin to comprehend how narrow-minded someone has to be to think that any non-traditional romance roles are basically SJWs pandering to pan-sexual lobbying of some sort. Don't buy into the crap people are spewing at it. I'm only reviewing this game this late because I've already sunk almost a hundred hours into it. Those who love the game aren't the ones here bashing it two days after release.

Sure, there are some filler quests, but they are not the majority. Most everything you do in Thedas has a purpose and makes sense in the narrative. By helping people, resolving conflicts, and spreading word of the Inquisition, you earn power and influence that you can use to further strengthen your cause. Inquisition does as good of a job setting up the world and your place in it as Dragon Age: Origins did - if not better. Your hand is extended through the use of your advisors and the war table. They will perform side missions while you play and provide you with additional rewards based on your decisions.

Combat abilities are incredibly satisfying to use. That being said, the AI and tactical camera leave much to be desired. Taking these features directly from Origins or Dragon Age 2 would have been preferred over the current system. BioWare has mentioned patches coming or the Tactical view on PC. There have also been some technical issues with the game, although none have detracted from my personal enjoyment of the title.

Thedas feels like a truly massive world for the first time, and you will lead it into the future your way.

Everything has so much detail into it, and so well optimized.

Gameplay: 9/10 it is really a delight to play the game. I was a bit frightned about the controls as I have read in most reviews that PC controls suck, but then I got the game and found out it was the control system of TERA, which I love, so I understood perfectly how to use the keyboard/mouse setting and never felt weird or counterintiutive for me. Maybe those of you not familiarized with recent MMORPG should get a joystick, although aren't the controls almost equal to SWTOR? And I don't recall this rant about SWTOR controls, lol. About the replayability, the game is obviously very large (+80h for me), and as the previous DA titles, you will have to play it more than one time to get all the content. In fact, I had to play it twice to properly understand the details of the main story. There's also a lot of characters (9 party members), the wartable minigame in which you can do some interesting (and some not so much) quests, the decoration of the Inquisition's castle, dozens of mounts. In summary, so many secondary content! The world is HUGE, more than Skyrim (I would say like 50% bigger) but it is distributed in instanced areas (like Baldur's Gate and the previous DA), so it's not really an "open" world, although the different areas are indeed very open and veeery large, each one with its own set of little towns, castles, caves, etc. Everything is brilliantly crafted, and I really thank bioware for making the caves so diverse and not a copy-paste like DA2. My only issue with the gameplay was the tactical camera, which has 4 problems: first it wasn't really needed in hard difficulty, second it can't jump trough objects, I mean, it moves like a character so it will be stuck when encountering ie a rock, third you can not put it very far from the field so it doesn't help to get the "bigger picture", and fourth if some tall object, like a tree, stays between the battlefield and the camera, you won't be able to see trough it. They should have turned those "not important" objects invisible when you use the tactical camera. Another problem that I saw, not related to the camera, is on the skill's set. You can learn a lot of skills, but you can only have 8 skills at a time on the action bar, which is too limited, at least for a mage.

Oh! The character creation and the multiplayer missions were perfect!

Story: 9/10 the story is very good, although I personaly prefer DAO main story. This is because the villain does too little interventions to stay relevant throughout all the game. Although I understand that in 80h of content, it is difficult to make any character look prevalent unless you make him/her appear A LOT of times (in the end, it seems being too huge has its negative consequences too). The side quests are a different story though: the best of the saga, specially the party's quests. The party characters are so spectacularly well written, well dubbed, and have such a good facial expresions, that it is impossible not to get inmersed on their issues. This is actualy the only DA that I had problems selecting the characters that I wanted on my party since I could not chose among that brilliant cast. Some of them I hated at the beggining, but somehow I ended loving them just by speaking with them enough times. They felt so real! I also loved to see how the previous game actions were, sometimes subtly hinted, and sometimes greatly reflected, but just make sure you go to "dragon age keep" website to be able to import your previous game's content into Inquisition. The ending was fullfiling enough, although it leaves some details deliberately unadressed that are frying my brain right now, and will probably get very important in incoming DLCs.

Overall, this was a very good experience, and the world reminded me so much of baldur's gate that I felt some nostalgia playing it, which made it all a bit more special. I totaly recommend this game.

As for the "zero" or any other "bad or medium mark" review, guys you can go buy a personality lol, the "critic bioware" fashion already ended last year, upgrade yourselves. But cheers bioware, you have now not only a fanbase, but a haterbase also! Like Britney Spears! certainly a symbol of your success :)

I personally much prefer a real-time battle than the tactical (paused) battles and it certainly does make the fights exciting (and crazy frantic at times i.e. Descent DLC) and fun. DA:I has this in spades, and battles always feel fun and fresh. Especially when going for the Elder Dragons when you've levelled up enough!

There's a good choice of companion characters you can choose, and there are many to choose from, of different specialisations. I like the idea that ALL characters level up concurrently, so you can choose to swap characters ANY time in the game - therefore, allowing you to try different characters and their powers WITHOUT having to restart in order to play other characters. Overall this game is well built to allow you to play through once THOROUGHLY (easily 100+ hours of content), and with different characters as and when you wish. And closing those Fade rifts and getting rid of demons never gets tired.

If I have to gripe at something, then perhaps sometimes the control scheme is a bit wonky. For example, when trying to close Fade Rifts, I sometimes can't see my cursor clearly, plus the chaos of battle doesn't really help. But that's such a minor gripe.

This is a near perfect RPG experience, and to me, even better than Skyrim, which I've also spent 100+ hours on. I can't wait for Dragon Age 4 - if they can improve on it further!

    * The multiplayer is great if you like dungeon crawling games and loot (not something for everyone, particularly Call of Duty / FPS oriented peeps used to lone wolf style gameplay).

    * A lot of the reviews with 0s complaining about extreme crashes have been fixed since an Nvidia graphics card update was released yesterday. I find it sad though that its apparently okay to release a broken piece of software on PC, but not a console.

For die-hard DA-Origin Fans... like me. Your first hours into Dragon Age Inquisition are going to be a shock, and you will be upset and resentful. You will feel this is the dumbing down of RPGs to fit the idiocy of the masses, and that Dragon Age has somehow turned into Assassin's Creed. That nothing is left of the beautiful story-driven tactical experience of the first game. However, eventually two things will fix this view for you.

1: Time. The game seems simple for many hours, the plot can be hard to follow, and thus seeming hollow. However, after about 10-20 hours that changes, and the beauty of the game opens up to you.

2: For God's sake if you want a tactical experience, you must play this game on Hard, or Nightmare. Anything less, and yes, this is an action game that doesn't require a lot of brains and will seem in-part like some kinda open-world action clone. Assassin's Creed and Saints Row come to mind.

Moving on to the awesome! This game has the best graphics of any RPG I have ever seen. However, owning the hardware to demonstrate this requires one to be on the cutting edge of current PC specifications, a place I am rather fortunate to be at right now. There is a baffling amount of detail here, and the world is BIG, with tons of awesome, magical, shiny, beautiful places to explore.

The story opens up too, at first, it will seem this game didn't have to be a Dragon Age title at all, but eventually you will get dragons and grey wardens and darkspawn!

A deep crafting/resource gathering feature, as well as some neat ways to customize your gear are very welcome additions.

Tactical Mode is not nearly as bad as people are griping about. It is a bit on the micromanagement side. But should only need to be employed for the most challenging 5% of battles, at which point it does an amazing and unique job at leaving you in control of everything without devolving into a turn-based affair. The camera in this mode can be a little unweildy, but with the scope of the environments and enemies. I have no idea how they would address this. It's not that it is innately bad, it's just that I don't think there is any perfect way to get a great view of such large and active battles.

I really like the pacing and rhythm to this game. Play a main story mission, then return to base, and do a lot of talking and story progression.(more on that later) Then build your characters up with a bevy of sidequests, activities, and exploration.. Return to base, upgrade all the things, and repeat. Keeps things changing enough that I feel it doesn't get stale.

About dialogue and story. If you're like me and can't remember every little detail about the previous Dragon Ages, you will need to exhaust most conversation options to get a good understanding of some things. Like which factions and powers are which etc. After a major story mission, getting back to base and exhausting all dialogue can take hours. This can be a pro or a con, depending on who you are. I have to say the extreme amount of dialogue is something I'm hesitantly thankful for, but even I lose patience for it occasionally.

In essence, Dragon Age inquisition starts out with a bunch of red-flags and contrivances, but evolves into a deep and satisfying gaming relationship.

First of all, I'm a longtime RPG fan. I've played and loved all the classics and pretty much all the newer games in the genre, right since Dungeon Master of old, through Baldur's Gates, Planescape, Eye of Beholders, Divine Divinity, right up to Divinity: Original Sin and Dragon Age: Inquisition. No one could conceivably label me as an ADHD Call of Duty teenaged clickwhore.
That being said, Dragon Age Inquisition is a superb game.

I have to admit I was worried when the first trailers and concept art went public. I hated the slick third person pseudoopenworld levels with cool dragons and everything exploding. I hated the party member characters, with their fanservice almond eyed sorceresses and pornstached homosexual mages. I fully expected this game will be all style and no substance, further cementing my opinion that the Bioware I knew and loved was gone for good. I mean okay, Dragon Age 2 was sort of fun and I finished it and it wasn't entirely unsatisfying, but I expected a lot more.

I couldn't have been more wrong about DA:I. This game is great. The writing is good and clever, the humour is mostly subtle, the story makes sense and is interesting, the decisions feel like they have real impact, the party members are quirky and likeable. And the cool graphics actually breathe life into the levels and create a world which you will want to explore. And I'm not even talking about the little touches, the codex entries that are well written, the way the world subtly reacts to your chosen race and in-game decisions, the sheer UNBELIEVABLE amount of stuff to do.

I know you guys hate EA. I'm not the biggest fan, either. I also don't like Denuvo DRM that's part of this game. But come on - the game is clearly a labor of love and Bioware deserves recognition. This is the direction I want them to go in their future games. This is what it looks like when they do it right. It's simply a different type of RPG from your Wasteland 2 oldschool RPGs, but it's no less of a great game (and a great roleplaying game at that) than those oldschool Kickstarted projects.
Don't join the sheep in their bleating. Recognize this game for what it is without prejudice. It's awesome.

Also, Qunari as a playable race, feels tacked-on. I was really disappointed, when i started my Female Qunari Mage, thinking it would be the most hated combination I could think of, but... it wasn't

There was like a handful of references to being a Qunari, less, to being a Qunari mage, and NONE about being a female Qunari, who haven't even been SEEN before in the other games.

Plus, it's obvious that only Heavy Armor has been fleshed out for them. More than half the light and medium armors can't be worn by Qunari, and 1 piece I did find that fit me, didn't even have a model for Qunari! It just showed as the basic "underclothes" default.

I might put up with those things on a later playthrough, but on a first time? Yeah...not gonna happen.

Now Im playing a Human though, and playing as a crazy devout follower of the Maker, which feels right in this game, which is nice, seeing as the past 2 games (especially the 2nd), it felt better to play as anti-templar / chantry.

So it's definitely different, and new, and fun for me.

I can sincerely recommend DA:I to anybody who likes good, long RPGs with a lot of content and a very impressive presentation. However, anybody who still lives in the memories of BG 2, Kotor, Wasteland or Planescape Torment (best story in any interactive medium) just stay away from computer games made by established game developers. Bioware, Blizzard etc. will never be able to fulfill your expectations because you want the same experience you had years ago just in a completely different way which however has somehow to be the exact same... hopefully you see that the contradiction lies within yourself and not the game. The story has you venture a huge world and there are plenty of different regions to explore with all sorts of climates. Unlike other RPG's I felt the side quests were also interesting and not too dull, usually side quests are more of a chore than anything. Voice acting was fantastic, you grew attached to characters, and the freedom of choice during conversations gives you a sense of power.

My biggest gripe with the game was probably the requirement to grind. A few times in the game I was below the recommended level requirement to continue the main story, so I'd have to spend a couple of hours just doing side quests to level up adequately. This seemed to slow things down a bit and I'm not a fan when games do this. PC performance was also a little bit of an issue. I run two GTX 970's so I was good to go, but the FPS on single GPU's isn't ideal, and of course many people run a single GPU. Having said this, the engine was solid. I had absolutely no screen tearing issues, graphical bugs, just nothing. The world looked beautiful at all times and I give a thumbs up to the overall graphics.

From a performance view I have a GTX Titan and the game runs great but yes there is still room for improvement because im still not getting a solid 60 with everything max. In the end the game looks amazing and 50 frames is fine by me. I recommend buying this game hands down its stuffed with meaningful content and don't forget to leave the Hinterlands. The story unfolds nicely. Graphics are nice. Killing your first dragon feels like an accomplishment in itself.

Some of the bad stuff :(

The tactical camera takes some getting used to but once you adjust, it becomes muscle memory with your fingers at that point.

Looting sucks, I want to right click and have my character run over to the item and loot it. Sometimes you have to be standing right on top of the item to pick it up.

There isn't much of a tutorial in the war room or for crafting. Its not that in depth but something would have been nice.

To those on the fence about getting the game I would say this...........Judge it after 20 hours of gameplay. By then the story will have opened up, you will have your palace, you will have so many side quests and places to explore. You will have dabbled in master crafting, decorating your palace and coordinating your 4 man team to bring down a dragon!!!!!!!. This is a true RPG that I have been immersed in since launch.

DA Origins is one of the best games I've ever played and while Inquisition is a lot different, it is too much fun to ignore. I am very impressed with Bioware's response to the backlash from DA2. The big problem was a small world with too many re-used environments. Well, that's been blown out of the water with one of the biggest worlds ever, filled with tons of stuff to do.

A big complaint I've heard about Inquisition has been ultra demanding graphics on computers. At first I did not realize my computer( Alienware M14x, 8G RAM, 2.4ghrtz, i7) couldn't run the game well on ultra or high settings. But once I turned things down to medium it ran beautifully with virtually zero lag and the game still looks amazing.

There are a lot of aspects of the game that remind me of Mass Effect 3 oddly enough. Planning operations on a large scale in the war room is awesome and you get to interact with characters and regions previously visited in DA1 and 2. Even better is the chance to explore new places you've heard about in other games like Orlais.

The interactions with other characters in your party is fantastic. The decisions made during quests have a serious impact on what they think of you. The advisers are a great addition and bringing back the option of multiple playable races for the player is nice.

The game is not perfect with minor problems like limited key bindings, camera issues, party AI, and some graphical bugs. But overall this game is a masterpiece. The good faaaar outweighs the bad. Excellent job from Bioware.

If you wanted another Dragon Age Origins play that. This is a new game with a new engine and has changed accordingly. I loved DAO, not too keen on DA2 and so far I love this. This is not a definitive review as I am nowhere near the end but felt the need to put something up because of the amount of nonsensical zero scores and reviews that have been posted here. I find that this review section is indicative of gamers now, the its not exactly what i wanted it to be mentality that is rife in the community is ridiculous. This game is not made for you, its made to appeal to a wide audience of people.

But if you are going to slam something at least put in some meaningful play time. 2 hours is not reasonable time to fully judge a game of this size. I personally was pulled into the story so that aspect worked for me. It reminds me of the whole Mass Effect 3 fallout. Did I find the ending all I hoped it would be? No. But that was the ending of the story as the writers had it. There are numerous books that I love that may not have gone the way I wanted but I understand the writes choice. Games are the same when it comes to narrative driven ones. Giving a book a zero after reading 20 of 400 pages is a joke.

The story's framework is given quickly, but then you are spun around and pointed out into expanse with only your sense of adventure to guide you. The designers were smart enough to give you anchor points you can always return to, and must for aspects of the game, but otherwise your darkened map is only filled in by where you decide to go. The main line of quests would be a healthy game in themselves but its the cornucopia of discoveries you make while merely getting your bearings in Dragon Age: Inquisition, that lead to dozens, and possibly more than a hundred hours, of side quests, treasure hunts, and random encounters.

If you liked the previous Dragon Age games (or at least the first in the series), you will enjoy "Inquisition". Its bigger, bolder, and technically superior while still telling a compelling narrative. It has memorable characters, both friend and foe, while offering the highest quality of combat in a DA game, yet, and providing a plethora of loot, crafting, and relationship systems to dig in to as deep or shallow as you like.

DA:I is not a 6 hour linear shooter and the lack of an obvious path may leave those not familiar with this type of game, feeling rudderless. I urge you to fight past the first few hours of loose footing. There is a method to the madness and it can become immersive once you build a connection to the world.

DA:I is open world fantasy at its finest. Explore how you like, craft combat in real time or strategically, and romance a strange looking creature or a cheeky dwarf..... its all about choosing what you want to do.

I hope that includes giving Dragon Age:Inquisition a chance to suck you in, if it does, its one of the most rewarding fantasy gaming experiences out there.

Probably the best Bioware's game since Dragon Age: Origins.
Excellent graphics; the plot is mediocre, but the characters are very nice and I like the dialogues.
I think that Bioware should work better on the combat system next time, make it more tactical and less "click-click-click-style".
Advanteges of this game are a lot stronger than it's disadvantages anyway.

Story so far is good (really hope they will not pull ME3 at the very end),characters are interesting and have their own personality, some areas are freaking enormous and you can spend days running through them to do everything,if you want. Universe is immersive (besides few bugs)
Graphics are very good, but i have new (970) video card so cant speak for experience on older hardware.
    Minuses:
Camera in pc is bad. Hard to target some rifts (things that you NEED to target) mid combat. In conversation it sometimes centers on empty corner instead of on the person you speak with.
Tactical combat is poorly implemented, few things that you can do with it are countered by abovementioned bad camera and AI that sometimes simply ignores your orders.
PC controls are awkward, takes time to adjust and you cant remap attack key. Thank you ,multiplayer :(,i guess.
There are bugs - had crash only once, but my elven mage has apparently dual personality - it is Dalish and from circle at same time. Mouse sometimes fails to activate conversations wheel options.
But all in all, despite those minuses i really really enjoy the game. Cant understand people that rate 100+h of content game so low for crappy controls that you nevertheless will get used to after couple of hours.
If Bioware will fix camera game will be 10 for me.

Honestly... the only thing that is bad about it is the controls and UI elements.

Other than that, the world is freaking gigantic...6 hours in one map and I'm not even 20% done completing it. So many quests...and if you really feel adventurous, you will face challenges WAY above your level. Fortunately, this is where the strategy shines.

I'm playing on the hardest difficulty, so I'm enjoying the challenge. It's definetely an improvement from DA2 world wise, but DA2 probably had the best overall combat mechanics (while DAO had the best variety). It's really not as bad and disappointing as people are crying about.

There is a bunch of heavy role-play elements in the game, like you have to gather materials to craft and "upgrade". However, there is plenty of loot to be found and used that are just as good as an upgrade while traveling.

If they can address the sub-par work on the menus and fix the controls...this will be great. There is plenty to do and the game isn't just a speedrun to the finish. You will enjoy the game if you take the time to explore everything it has to offer.

Sad to see most negative reviews are because they just refused to adapt or have a terrible PC to play this game on. This game is extremely optimized for cards from 2013+. Get with the times.
This is definitely a game that improves on a lot... to be fair, the controls and UI is the weakest part but its tolerable. You're not going to lose anything by learning/adapting to the controls. Look past that and you got a great game.

24+ hours in already at this date and its still way as enjoyable as DAO plus almost everything that made DA2 great. Sorry if you're casual and can't keep up...maybe League of Casuals will suit you negative Nancys'.

How about those demons and rogues appearing out of nowhere in Hinterlands, taking you by surprise? The writing in this game is really superior to DA II and even Origins. The characters are great. I was expecting to HATE Cassandra but I'm surprised with her and now she's my main tank. Just an example. The music is superb, the voice acting is nice, the customization is ok (not as detailed as in DAO but still there and really better than DA2). The combat system is not bad and the story got me hooked so far. The enemies are not easy at all. There are areas with easy enemies and areas you learn to avoid until you get good gear and are in this or that level. But the pleasure to kill them when you're prepared is great. If you like RPG I say: be careful with all the hate towards this game. Honestly most everything about the hate is NOT legit. I don't want to look like a fan boy trying to counter the ridiculous people posting 0 and as people have noted there is a relatively minor issue with the tactical camera in that there are some occasions when you could do with being able to zoom out more.

Why do I rate this so highly?

The graphics? The graphics are very good and the world both huge and depicted in beautiful detail.

The combat? The combination of action and tactical combat works well for the most part and is great fun. But the tactical camera issue does need resolving. For tactical combat to work most effectively the game needs both a longer zoom and a separate pause button instead of combining them.

The gear and the crafting? I really enjoy this aspect of the game and the way you can modify parts of weapons and armour to customise them for your characters and play styles if you can find the schematics and have the raw materials. Some people find it overly complex but for me it's absorbing.

So what then? Why do I rate this game so highly?

The story and the characterisation. This series has always been rightly lauded for this but DAI has taken it to the next level. This is as close as any game has ever got to being an interactive novel. Every character, not just the main characters have their own story. Each one is voiced superbly. However when it comes to your main characters this gets dialled up to 11.

The Rogue in your party isn't just a rogue. He's Varric (and featured in DA2). He's a dwarven merchant, teller of tall tales and as he puts it 'occasional tag-along'. He has a crossbow named Bianca, but that's a tale he isn't going to tell. Underneath his slightly world-weary cynicism you can tell he's an idealist. He's the type of guy you'd want as your friend and the type of guy who will be by your shoulder when things turn ugly.

And they're all like that. They have feelings towards you and each other that can change over the course of the story in line with what you say and do so your choices and actions have real consequences.

What brings this all together is the incredible depth of the world. This is a place every bit as realised as Middle Earth and as you adventure you learn more and more about its history, its religions and its politics. This isn't just cosmetic detail, its the context within which your actions and choices take place. What you say and do can shape the world.

I could go on but you get the drift. This is the FRPG release of the decade.

Finally - technical issues. I'm playing on Ultra settings and MSAA2 (?) anti alias at 2060*1050 on an i5/8MB/GTX 780 system. I'm not having any technical problems. Very occasionally (as in twice in 20 hours) I needed to run the free memory cleaner I use as standard to clear stuttering and I'm sure that was as much to do with me application swapping and doing stuff on the second screen as the game itself.

So in summary - DAI is extremely good and certainly does not in any way merit the ridiculous scores of 0 being given or the frankly bizarre reviews that accompany them.

However it is now right up there with the best games of the year, even with its flaws.

Straight away the graphics are very impressive, playing at high resolution (1440p) and on ultra, this game looks better than almost anything I have played before. The environments you will explore are vast, detailed, varied and believable.
On the technical side of things, this is a complete and finished game. It does not feel like it was rushed at the last minute to meet deadlines and has very few bugs considering the scope of the game.
The game appears to be very well optimized with a wide variety of graphical options and has no major performance concerns, however you should be aware that this does not mean it will be well suited to low end systems - good optimization is meant in the context of the game being graphically impressive and performing well with suitably powerful hardware.

On the gameplay side of things. you take a party of 4 that can be chosen from a pool of several characters you meet throughout the game, it is almost an exact copy of the mechanics used previously in the Mass Effect games. Combat uses a standard mmo type hotbar system for abilities and spells and of course weapon, armor and abilities can all be changed around and upgraded.
The bulk of the content aside from the slightly disjointed and confusing (but enjoyable) story revolves around traditional mmo style sidequests and main mission structures - do one mission and find another along the way that leads to somewhere else. It is nothing that has not been done before and combat is not particularly deep. Luckily variety, locations and story keep things interesting throughout the extensive length of the game.
No element on it's own is groundbreaking, but everything is put together as a cohesive package and is well polished to ensure that the overall experience is one you will want to keep playing until the end.

Despite the above, there are some aspects of the game design that I feel could have been done better.
Character and equipment management is slow, fiddly and unintuitive, especially when it comes to managing multiple party members and trying to make an optimum build as there is no easy way to compare who has what stats and equipment across your entire range of selectable characters.
Some aspects of gameplay are not well explained and can cause confusion early on in the game such as the power and perks systems, equipment/armor upgrade systems and the way you send scouts out.

I also found the mouse and keyboard controls took some getting used to - they are similar in style to a standard 3rd person mmo but for the first few hours of gameplay I had issues trying to move the camera efficiently during combat. It would often spin around to face me away from enemies or have targeting issues, however after rebinding a few controls (specifically reversing the look/attack mouse buttons, and ensuring the camera follows the terrain elevation) it gradually became a non-issue but I did reach a point about an hour in where I was almost ready to quit in anger.

Overall: Technically proficient, beautiful graphics, decent story, enjoyable combat, poor character management.
