I was particularly dissapointed that companions weren't a bit more interactive in the environments. Really wanted them to help pick up items, find things for you, ect.

    * The multiplayer is great if you like dungeon crawling games and loot (not something for everyone, particularly Call of Duty / FPS oriented peeps used to lone wolf style gameplay).

    * A lot of the reviews with 0s complaining about extreme crashes have been fixed since an Nvidia graphics card update was released yesterday. I find it sad though that its apparently okay to release a broken piece of software on PC, but not a console.

After the debacle of Dragon Age II, I didn't think that Bioware could mess up combat to a greater extent. Then they gave us Inquisition, boy was I wrong. If you plan on playing on a PC either 1. Give up. 2. Buy a gamepad. The PC controls are clearly a half-assed console port which make no sense at all if you are trying to use a mouse/keyboard.

Four words sum up my experience so far with Dragon Age: Inquisition - This is ludicrously broken.

    Negatives:

    - I am playing on PC, and haven't been able to make it beyond leveling up in the tutorial. After three new characters, I am still unable to level my character up. The game states, "press P to use your ability points," I rush to the screen to level up, and receive the following message, "Some features are currently unavailable"..Flabbergasted, I question, "I'm sorry, wasn't I just told to spend my ability points?"...and it appears as if users on Xbox One and PC are experiencing this issue, in which the "character record" (i.e. level up screen) is locked. Therefore, unless I wish to play the game as a level 1 character and experience NONE of the abilities beyond the base one or two offered, it's impossible to progress further. It's an insult to me as a fan of Dragon Age, as a Gamer, and as a customer, to have to put up with such a grievous flaw in a product. This issue is what primarily resulted in my low score; however, below are some other issues that are far less significant, but still contributors.

    - There's a "resource" system in which you essentially have to run around the area mashing the "search for resource/loot" button and listening to its obnoxious "ping-ping"..I don't want to have to hit a button to find resources, it's tedious and dull, and takes me out of the experience. Make the resources/loot stand out more against the environment like in Dragon Age Origins, instead of requiring me to mash a button if I want to gather resources in the environment.

-On PC, the cutscenes tend to stutter as well, apparently, allegedly, due to a 30FPS framerate lock. I haven't bothered to look online for solutions, as it doesn't bother me that much. To those who would say, "It's your computer!!!" I can't really do anything to persuade you otherwise - please go give your, obviously superior, über rig a hug.

    - Character creation is not all that in-depth. I found the menus for customizing to be clunky and counter-intuitive. For certain options there's a slider, such as for face shape (there are about 8 or so options), and for others there's a weird crosshair system in which you drag a kind of orange cross across the grid and it changes your character's eye rotation, nose bridge etc., reminiscent of the Saint's Row weight slider system, except the corners are labeled in that. I found this clunky because none of the corners are labeled. Essentially, you just drag the odd cross around until you find something you like - it's a bit haphazard. I would like to have seen more options for hair styles, tattoos et al., as well, but that's just me.

    - Another negative of Character Customization; there are no "starter story" options. You can't decide your character's background, you're assigned one automatically depending on your choice of race (of which there are 4) and class (rogue, warrior, mage). Also, everyone starts in the same exact spot...so starting a new game as a dwarf, or an elf, compared to a human, lacks the unique immersive sensation of, "Wow! There are actually different races and classes in this world, and I will be treated differently based on where I come from."

    - One last note on Character Customization: There are two voice options. Yes, two. "Average" female voice and "rather manly, not-sure-what-you-are" female voice. Again, perhaps a bit petty, but I'd have liked to see a few more voice options..even just one or two more.

    - They still haven't recaptured the beautiful elegance of the tactical view that we had in Dragon Age Origins. Still no surprise finishers (from what I saw, and I do so miss those..) and the combat feels far less brutal than that in the rather lackluster Dragon Age II.

    - Tactical view is still...rather odd. If I left click an enemy, for example, a "basic attack" icon might, or might not, appear over my selected character's portrait...so I am unsure if he/she will actually attack the target. It's also odd to move around in the tactical view with "wasd"..it feels unnatural for some inexplicable reason.
    ------------

    Positive:

+ Looks and sounds great. From the crunch of your feet in the snow to the dazzling effects of spells (from the two I saw, as a result of the error mentioned above with leveling up), the game does a great job of immersing you in the action and world.

+ Abilities feel like they have "punch" to them. When a spell impacts, or a greatsword hits, you can see the enemy flinch and it actually feels to a point, as if your actions impacts the target. However, as mentioned earlier in the negatives, the combat doesn't feel brutal, despite that feeling of impact. I'm not sure why this is, perhaps it's because the enemies in this game, as far as I have gotten, have been shades and wraiths.

+ Characters interact more than they did in 2.

+/- It has some form of class-based multiplayer, but I haven't tried it out yet.

Conclusion: I suggest waiting for patches.

I am going to lead off by saying that this is by no means a perfect game. I can say, however, that without the rose-coloured goggles so common in such comparisons, that Inquisition is a strong contender for best game in the trilogy to date.

First off, Inquisition is big. It's not big in the sense of Skyrim-big or Fallout-big where you wander through one large monotonic environment fighting wild animals and random bandits for the sake of loot and XP, it is big in the sense of Origins-big or Star Wars-big where you really get the sense you're existing in a gigantic and well-thought-out world. The sheer variety and visual expansiveness of what you get puts this high on my list of best settings in video games.

Secondly, Inquisition is densely-populated. These areas are big because they're full; every corner you wander to, every cave, every nook and cranny and hill will have fights and sidequests and interesting things to go hunting for. You can pick a direction, walk off that way, and never be bored. The inevitable slew of fedex quests are given a life of their own through the narrative tying them back to the setting and the plot; you're never asked to go kill ten mountain goats for no reason, you're asked to go find food for starving refugees and when you get back the quest-giver will tell you how pleased he is that the Inquisition is going to look out for the underdogs that nobody cares for, your organization's influence will go up, and some of your companions will approve. Everything ties back together, everything feels like it matters.

Third, combat is engaging. People have complained that Inquisition is 'dumbed down' because the set of abilities is smaller than it was in Origins; that is technically true, there are about half as many abilities for a given class in Inquisition as in Origins. Combat, however, feels less like an MMO where you set up an optimal macro and toss out the same spells in the same sequence to win every fight; your physical position matters a lot more and the abilities you're given are suited to different situations instead of something being strictly better than something else. Ability combos from Dragon Age 2 are back with increased depth; there are more conditions to exploit and more ways to exploit them.

Fourth, BioWare's characters are back in top form; I've found a little more depth to the companions here than in prior games. Characters in Mass Effect and DA2 have a set of strongly-held and unshakeable convictions barring the occasional one-time change of heart in a personal quest; Inquisition shows us characters who are willing to set aside their personal prejudices for the sake of the mission and have more multidimensional motivations. My protagonist feels more like a character himself than a sounding board for the rest of the cast to bounce off of or the cliched one-dimensional three Hawke personalities.

Inquisition is not all sunshine, rainbows, and a gigantic world that is a joy to explore, unfortunately; the game plays on PC like it was intended for consoles, and has some distracting control scheme issues that detract from the experience. The tactical camera is moved with the arrow keys, there's no mouse pan, and menus will occasionally bug out and not recognize the mouse (it is a good idea to learn to navigate them with the keyboard for when this happens; I've never seen it happen in gameplay, only in menu screens). The lack of click-to-move makes getting to things to pick up and loot frustrating and when combined with the camera angles in non-main-plot conversations sometimes leads to strange body positions. Facial animation and body language haven't advanced here and we're still stuck with the same limited suite of animations earlier BioWare games have used. The main plot starts off abruptly and without adequate explanation; the story finds its stride quickly, however.

This is not a traditional cliched fantasy game; if you want the story of a lone muscular hero slaughtering their way through hordes of foes in a monochromatic setting for the experience points and battling an evil overlord with dragon-bone plate armour and a legendary sword reforged from the shards of his father's (who the evil overlord killed, of course) go somewhere else. This is the story of a world, with a thirteen-member ensemble cast leading an army, doing battle in forests with swords and in the court of public opinion with words, both with equal proficiency. This is a story where you have the power to shape the destiny of nations, not by killing a king and then wandering off to go grind some more but by building infrastructure and political power. Inquisition is a worthy successor to Origins as a detailed and intense dark fantasy that subverts and rewrites the conventions of the genre with equal glee and comes out with a cohesive and intelligent narrative and a fun game on the other side.

Not to mention, most people have not played enough hours of this game to have the credibility to pass such judgment. That being said, here are the only issues I have with this game:

PC: Look at minimum system requirements! You're going to have a rough time playing if your hardware isn't good! You wont even be able to get it running on a dual-core!

360: Graphics aren't too good, which makes sense. I was hoping for graphics to be more polished, but it's understandable considering how much graphics must be scaled down to run this on a previous generation console. Graphics are on par with Skyrim on 360, but if you're looking for a gem, you're going to be disappointed.

One/PS4: No complaints besides software issues with PS4. It happens people. Unless youre a software designer who thinks they could do a better job, let them work through the bugs. It happens with EVERY game.

Positives: This game brings the best of DA Origins and II without most of their negatives. It's open world, and not linear. Your character has great movement and its not blocky or clunky. It is more strategic than DA II, being a little less tactical than DA Origins. Just a little. I'd consider calling it a well-polished, updated DA Origins. There's so much more customization in the game than previous ones. You can customize the way you look, how gear looks, and modify weapons/armor. Combat is great. You have gap closers for melee and awesome animations for ranged characters. Auto attacks give it the feel of a hack and slash while still having tactical options. I've played well-through Skyrim, including all DLC's and this game's combat and exploration reigns supreme over the amount of utility I've gotten from playing Skyrim. It seems to have taken the positive aspects of Skyrim and improved upon it's weaknesses (combat, non-customizable armor). I loved Skyrim. I love this game even more.

Negatives: Release bugs. It's annoying, yes, but it's totally understandable. As a user, I understand things need to be polished on their end.
Graphics on 360. Theyre acceptable. I wish they had found a better option for graphics but things get complicated when trying to cover several platforms. If you have a One or PS4, get it. If you have a 360, it's definitely still worth the buy!! Just don't expect amazing graphics.
Issues on PC: There are a lot of issues with PC compatibility. Of course, it's my fault for not looking at minimum requirements. Look at your hardware!!!! It's your responsibility to verify if itll work on your rig! (i.e Why would you buy Netflix if you don't have access to the internet?)
Character interaction: It seems like your dialogue options don't have a lot of effect on the characters around you. You get notices of displeasure or pleasure with bad or good responses, but I've yet to see heavy repercussions of making a character hate me. Ofcourse, I'm nowhere near beating the game, so well see.

I'd say this game is one of the best RPG's I've played to date. I like rankings so if it helps make up your mind, heres where I'd put it on the ladder:

    1. SW KOTOR
    2. DA Inquisition (So far around 20+ hours)
    3. Skyrim
    4. ME 3
    5. DA Origins
    6. ME
    7. Witcher
8+. KOTOR 2, DA II, Elder Scroll series, ME II and so on.

Again, its a great game so far. Don't let the 0-4's fool you. This game is definitely not worth anywhere near that rating. The lowest rating I'd understand being given is maybe a 6 or 7 for 360 users or angry PC people who don't meet recommended hardware requirements. But then again, those people probably didn't put much time into the game warranting a reliable opinion.

Hope this review has helped! Happy hunting!

You will make decisions that will affect how your companions will treat you and decisions that will make you both allies and enemies.

Gameplay is really fun. There are loads of side quests and crafting material to gather. It will keep you playing for hours without doing the main quest. The combat can get intense and you will need to pause and plan out next move. The difficulty spike can get high sometimes, but after careful planning, I was able to overcome those trials The skill tree follows closer to the ones in DA2, which I don't find it too bad. IT's intersting to know that this is first DA game to have attributes level up automatically. This gets rid of hassle of what to raise when leveling your character. Character creation has multiple choices to choose from. There are 4 races:Humans, elves, dwarves, and qunari, and 3 classes: Rouge, Warrior, and Mage. Each class has multiple sub-classes. Each classes feels fun to play. By choosing the right members, your party can be deadly group.

As for the graphics....it's rather disappointing. I'm playing on my limited xbox 360, and I think they could have put more efforts for the console. Sometimes the texture doesn't load for 30 secs. Returning character models look akward. Really awesome design on areas though!

My final thought: Although it's much better than DA2, it's not as good as DA:O and could have used bit more polishing

I fall in the latter category. I may be in the minority, but judging by the distribution of reviews, this is a large minority. Most importantly, I found the tactical camera to be unusable. The camera does not pull back far enough to give you a good sense of the battlefield, is difficult to move around, and always seems to zoom way in on the selected character. So I spend a lot of time fighting the camera instead of my enemies. Also, character AI is not good, so I'm constantly fighting AI tendencies as well (which is a particular challenge given the camera difficulties).

Ultimately, I simply gave up on the tactical camera and will just use the over-the-shoulder view. This is a disappointment, as I would prefer to really dig into the game by ramping up the difficulty and approaching the battles more tactically (use of the tactical camera does help with more difficult battles). Instead, I'm treating this game as a walk through the park - enjoy the scenery and story, but don't try too hard.

I rate the game 5/10 because, despite the above shortcomings, this game does have some significant positives (that, for brevity, I did not discuss).

The graphics of scenery and characters have gotten incredibly better compared to the previous games. Who cares if the characters are a little bit shiny and plastic-looking? At least they decently look human compared to the robot-looking characters in the previous games. The only Dragon Age game that I thought was appropriate to play on the PC was Origins. Inquisition makes sense to be played on a station because a controller seems to make more sense rather than a keyboard. There is a true sense of character development and a lot of options for romance.

I pray that Mass Effect 4 redeem Bioware for this ****. ENOUGH TO BUY GAMES IN PRE PURCHASE (except for "The Witcher 3"). I remember playing "Jack Sparrow" version of the Mass Effect series, finished the game several times and even then later buy the original version, because it is an excellent series and really wanted to have it ... I even miss Dragon Age 2 ... man, how much could spoil the combat system of this game (DA I). Expand

This game is an example of a crappy console port. Bloated and cluttered UI, cumbersome menu UI and non-existing customization options for Keybindings (can't even bind mousebuttons to anything). What happend between Dragon Age Origin and now? The game used to be really good ... now it's an "MMORPG-Combat-Like" Action button masher designed for Consoles.

DA:I doesn't follow Dragon Age Origins nostalgia at all. It is basically a glorified DA:2 with simplified controls. The only real good area are the graphics, but even those are poor to my standards. RIP Bioware. The story isn't even that appealing, it has drastically changed and offered no decent story bridges from DA:O.

Plus, you need Origins to run this software, because EA doesn't like to share their games with other software distribution services. Typical self-serving attitude of a giant like EA.

The question is: How much longer will people allow EA to suck in their favorite franchise and then burn it out into ash? I gave it 3 stars instead of 0, because the Graphics and Voice acting seem to be the only good thing about this game.. Everything else is a insult to what Bioware stood for, and what they created.

From a story/character perspective, this game is incredible. It takes the epic story of Dragon Age Origins and the interesting and multifaceted characters from Dragon Age II (the characters being one of the few things that the sequel actually did right) and combines them to great effect. Even more so than other games with a similar story formula, you really feel like your character is just some ordinary person thrust into greatness, whether it's wanted or not.

As for the gameplay, well, like I said, they gutted the tactical system so people who REALLY enjoyed setting up party member tactics are probably disappointed (so disappointed, in fact, that most of them are ignoring all the things this game does right and giving a 0 score just because of that one thing). On the other hand, if that one aspect of DAO didn't appeal to you, then DAI does just about everything right. Combat is fluid, controls are responsive, and it's just plain fun.

And then there's the graphics. Not the best, obviously, but then BioWare has NEVER been the best at graphics. They've actually got a pretty horrible track record in that department, stretching all the way back to even before the first Mass Effect. That said, the graphics in this game are definitely a massive leap forward from their previous offerings.

I'm glad they went with a more open-world design for this game. It definitely benefits from that, since they decided to go big when it came to area design. Just the Hinterlands area around Redcliffe is bigger than the entirety of DA II (and possibly most or all of DAO as well), and that's only a small fraction of the game world. And these massive areas aren't empty; they're filled with content to explore and enemies to fight.

All in all, I'd say that the only downside of this game, at least from my perspective, is the obviously console-inspired menus. The interface is one of the many things that Origins did much better than Dragon Age II, but one of the only things that Inquisition didn't improve on.

The PC controls are defiantly clunky and need to be tweaked and I think the tactical camera is weird but still usable. I had a small problem downloading the game, but fixed it quickly.

My graphics have been great so far, no stuttering at all. I like the characters that I have met and find them complicated and interesting, unlike Skyrim which I felt had fairly flat characters. I think the voice acting is wonderful. Great game!

There is almost a 50-50 ratio of positive-negative reviews on this page, which truly strikes me as odd, but I will try to briefly outline whether or not you will like this game.

If you simply want a 2014 version of Dragon Age: Origins with updated graphics, you may not like this game. The combat style is much flashier, and while the tactical mode is there, I'll be honest that I haven't used it as much as in DA:O.

The above also applies if you're looking for another Baldur's Gate. This simply isn't that, and isn't trying to be that. However, I love Baldur's Gate and still find this game amazing.

If you're looking for Dragon Age: Skyrim Edition, you may be disappointed as well. There are Skyrim-ish aspects in the game, but ultimately Dragon Age is much more narrative-driven that most Elder Scrolls games, so you cannot expect the same experience.

Ultimately what Dragon Age: Inquisition is, is an open-world Dragon Age: Origins-Elder Scrolls hybrid that lands somewhere in between. If you're simply a Dragon Age fan who cannot get enough of the lore and the world and are open to change in general mechanic (with some throwbacks to DA:O), then I would say go for it.

I will point out that on a top of the line rig other than the graphics card (GTX 580 graphics card) I am experiencing some performance issues from time to time when running on high. Especially in large cities/villages the framerate can take a bit of a dip. There are also some audio glitches here and there in cutscenes, where characters will suddenly sound like they're from an otherworldly dimension.

Overall, though, I haven't had any truly horrible issues, so I would say that if you have a decent rig, can't get enough Dragon Age, and am open to the idea of a different mechanic feel for DA games, then go for it.

I think anyone that has played this game on a PC knows they are being cheated out of a PC interface, controls and mechanics, but the game looks so damn good that we are still trying to enjoy the game.

My Bioware fan status and IQ is going down by the game.
I guess I should get a Console and stimulate the economy.

Dragon Age 2 and Mass Effect 3 started to show the new face of Bioware as EA pawns.
The Love for developing, quality and innovation is made secondary to the Love of money making.

Dragon Age Origins was very good: amazing play mechanics, nice Interface, great story, a labor of Love you hoped could only get better.
Sadly they sold their Hearts to EA and started the long way down from quality to quantity to just profit.
I guess I was spoiled by the miracle of Dragon Age: Origins.

I could list all the obvious problems that everyone is listing, the disappointment from having dumb down mechanics for the Tactical game and a console Interface and control scheme that is not for PC, but I am pretty sure that Bioware knows all about it, and they knowingly gave us a wanna be PC product hoping the razzle dazzle graphics and fake reviews would keep us opening our wallets.
I guess it still works cause I bought the game, good on you mate, just remember all scams come with a price.

Having said that, this being my last Bioware game I play until they go back to having respect for PC Gamers and some pride.
I will try now to enjoy what actually still works with the game which is mostly the graphics and lore and I will for the last time put up with this new travesty of having a common interface for all platforms.

DAI is still a lot cheaper than going to the movies, where I would have to pay a lot more for 100 hours of mindless viewing.
Not what I expected DAI to be, I thought they had actually listened to people and gone back to greatness.

Is it worth a 10? No, but it's damn good. Clearly they have not progressed past the incredibly large first area where yes, there is that element of MMO-esque quests; which are entirely optional. The game is huge, freaking huge and there are a *lot* of quests. Most of them are great, too. People are focusing on one aspect of it and demonizing the entire game without a fair chance. And I mean, seriously, wtf, I have seen "0" given out over reviews of reviews. People are freaking reading the reviews, and then giving the game a "0" based on the reviews without playing like a giant "0" star review circle jerk. LOL come on, then they negatively review anyone that gives positivity

To give it a "0" is ludicrous, but people are throwing it out like candy out of sheer ignorance.

    My Scores:
    Replayability: 7
    Graphics: 8
    Scenery: 8
    Story: 8
    Fun: 9

It made me giggle like a school girl, laugh and cry. There are emotional moments, and there are great moments. People *cannot* judge this game so quickly down the drain, because they haven't even SCRATCHED the surface of what it truly is, and most likely have not even progressed past the areas enough to see the potential and fun. The very first area, the hinterlands alone, I have 13 hours logged in and I'm not even close to finishing, I left it to do the story quests. It's that large; but it's those quests people are complaining about. You literally do not have to do the MMO quests if you hate them, they are side quests FFS.

There are bugs, and there are glitches. But holy crap, the game came out like yesterday. And if you are complaining about DRM, you're a pirate and need to GTFO with that weak sauce, this one won't be cracked soon, sorry and get over it

    Negatives:

It is no wonder that most developers neglect the PC Community since they are always complaining about the most ridiculous things.

"Meee the game looks great, has a good gameplay but it has no deep story. Mee, good story, but the graphics are sooo 2002. I can sincerely recommend DA:I to anybody who likes good, long RPGs with a lot of content and a very impressive presentation. However, anybody who still lives in the memories of BG 2, Kotor, Wasteland or Planescape Torment (best story in any interactive medium) just stay away from computer games made by established game developers. Bioware, Blizzard etc. will never be able to fulfill your expectations because you want the same experience you had years ago just in a completely different way which however has somehow to be the exact same... hopefully you see that the contradiction lies within yourself and not the game. Just scroll through the user reviews and notice how many people expected DA:I to be BG2 or DA:O all over again, yet of course in a different way...

The game is very underwhelming and feels like a mash up of a handful of others games (skyrim, mass effect, star wars the old republic, etc.) but never outshines what it has taken. I did enjoy the combat but had difficulties on normal with enemy level scaling and party AI. Had some problems with cut-scenes glitches, the voices and effect not syncing, and invisible walls that limited the partial open world they had. Nothing really memorable about this game except it's great graphics and good voice acting.

The negative reviews are baffling. I've only just reached the forward camp location, and I'm already having as much fun as I had in Skyrim. The game is beautiful! If your characters look like they've been dipped in oil, just turn the graphics settings up. It's so good to hang out with Varric again! Great job, BioWare. I hope these buttheads don't get you down.

The game controls are terrible on the PC, the keyboard and mouse combination has caused me a lot of anger and frustration ... the Bioware tried to create a combat system similar to Kingdom of Amalur / The Witcher... to have the least control you should use a joystick! ... unfortunately Dragon Age 4 will end up being an MMO ...

The great dialog and interesting characters are Bioware's most consistent deliverable, and DA:I continues that tradition. The graphics are great, a real generational leap over previous DA games, so please ignore the obnoxious comments to the contrary.

On the other hand, the UI is pretty consolitis-infected. DA:O UI was so much better in that regard, where equipping and leveling up was quick and easy. DA:I's UI is a usability nightmare, where every screen has a tiny number of options, and you are constantly scrolling through because you only see 4 lines of text on screen at once. Camera control and movement is another area of missed opportunity (no click to move, WTF?). It means I want to spend as little time in the character menus etc. as possible, only jumping in when I absolutely have to.

It probably deserves to be called RPG of the year, despite the modest flaws.

At my fourth attempt, I was finally able to complete my character, only to be met with choppy graphics, terrible camera controls, and horrible game-play with mouse and keyboard.
Still, I tried to give it a shot, but after having another 2 crashes, an agonizing battle with the tutorial boss, where I was fighting more against the camera then the boss itself, I went and got my refund.

    Bottom-line:

Graphics: choppy with a lot of stuttering, especially during cutscenes. Low and Medium models give you ugly and shiny hair.

Game-play: Made to be played with a joystick. You need to keep clicking to attack, and if your target moves, good luck with that. Clicking on the ground to move? Nope. Trying to close that rift located 5 meters of the ground? No way, you can't even see it, with that annoying camera. The menus are a mess.

I can't comment on the storyline and the open world, because all these issues made the game unplayable to me.

    Utterly disappointed.

Tactical Camera mode is now embarassingly bad compared to origins, needing to go through several hurdles for a party member to do anything other than use their skills.

The RPG system took the biggest hit as it's dumbed down to mind numbing levels, no attribute points beyond equipment and perk bonuses, a tenth of the class skills that were in Origins, and any and all equipment being locked to a certain class, offering nothing other than robes and a staff for a mage. The inventory and combat controls are clunky at best, and the game was clearly designed with console controllers in mind, with KB/M being tacked on as an afterthought.

Although the game's world itself is vast, with a bundle of other small activities to do not related to killing/scavenging, which is one of the few refreshing changes from the past installments but ultimately ends up being a bore to play.

I will keep this as concise as possible, I have spent quite some time with the official game on pc (yes I purchased it despite loathing Origin and EA with a firey passion).

Character creation - Visuals:- The character creators options and sliders are good, there are many new things here that I havent seen in other rpg's. And other things that are much improved, especially Jaw and Nose options - It is very enjoyable to create a character you like to look of.
Many of the textures are bad however, beards clip very badly unless you make your characters chin and jaw as small as possible, and eyebrow and stubble textures are horribly made (as they were in previous games).

Character creation - Story:- While the option to choose other races is very welcomed as we missed it in Dragon Age *pukes in mouth* 2, there are no different origin stories. If you are a dwarf you are a surfacer criminal, for example. This coupled with the fact that there is a lot of forced dialogue means that Inquisition DOES NOT HAVE BY ANY MEANS the personalised experience of Origins. The ability to choose an accent for your character is a surprising and welcomed option - yet underwhelming considering what I said a few sentences ago.

Performance:- This game runs like crap. I have a fairly good system and have even turned the graphics down. I dont mind doing that, I'm not one of those overclocking fps hounds. But this game has a kind of slow motion 'stutter' that happens every second or so (just go on twitch, you can see it on EVERY stream) - it is hard to describe but the game does not feel fluid in the slightest. It is obvious that the game is in need of a huge amount of optimisation, or perhaps the devs thought the engine was capable of more than it is - it is a shame, the game COULD look wonderful but the constant immersion breaking slow motion, frame skips, stutters and texture pop ins are just awful. I expect more from a game in 2014, and more scalability (this is a bad console port - explains everything).

Modding:- Obviously, as this game is made in the battlefield engine modding is going to be incredibly difficult. In my honest opinion this is a HUGE mistake. I know dozens of people that have moved to PC, purchasing games a second time just for modding. This is a complete lack of vision by EA (Yes, EA... not bioware).

Origin:- Origin is a piece of ****, you can't even take screenshots. And for me personally as an english speaker living in south america I CANT CHANGE THE LANGUAGE OF ORIGIN. I braught this up in TWO THOUSAND AND ELEVEN on the EA support forums along with many others. They said back then it would be fixed. EA is a moronic and completely incompetant company - what the hell are bioware doing chained to such an idiotic bunch of cretins?

Mouse and Keyboard support:- It's funny that I should have to title this section as mouse and keyboard support as I am reviewing the PC title. Its bad. Moving a character around is passable, but everything else in this game is tailored for a gamepad and nothing more, it is just unintuative and clunky. And it's even clunky on the gamepad! I am NOT a hater of the gamepad, I love them in fact - Arkham City is one of my favourite games on the PC, but after trying the gamepad in inquisition I didnt like it so went to M+K - I was horribly disappointed with both control mechanisms.
M+K is just bad, in the character creator pressing W moves the camera AND changes beard options, for example - it is terrible and no thought has been put into it - this is obvious. For all their boasting of PC support, they have delivered nothing.

Behaviours/Tactics:- In Inquisition 'Behaviours' take the place of Origins 'Tactics Screen'. yet you only have 5 options and they are limiting and simplistic. In fact it even seems like the feature has been thrown in just so bioware can say that they haven't removed the tactics screen. Posturing.

UI:- For me, on either an xbox controller or mouse and keyboard the UI in this game is terrible. It is clunky and unintuitive. I simply dont understand how bioware can do so badly after a game like Mass Effect 3 that had a down-right-inspired UI.

    Overall:-
Bioware has tried very hard to mix the best of Origins and DA2 (DA2 had nothing of worth other than writing and acting btw) and what we have ended up with is a brown muddy mess.
IF they make the game run better and more fluid the experience will be better, and perhaps the game will start to shine - but I am SICK AND TIRED of IF's with developers. Every game these days is "They'll fix it" or "This is coming next month in a patch" and I am sick of it.
And for all their posturing about catering for Origins fans, Inquisition DOESNT deliver.

Muddy, mish-mash of a game that is barely held together by.... well.... I dont know what.

    - Non-cutscene dialogue with sidequest NPCs is dull. No camera angle changes. Your character just stands there and speaks to the NPC at the default camera angle. Can't see facial animations or anything like that.
    - FETCH QUESTS. "Go here and collect X ram meat." "Go here and unlock camp." "Go here and discover landmark." "Go here and collect shard." You get the idea... I would have preferred DA: Origin's style of a more directed experience. Yes, it's an open world game, but open world doesn't mean you need repetitive MMO-style fetch quests (for example, look at TES or Fallout: New Vegas).
    - Attack system requires holding down R or left-click. You will find yourself constantly accidentally attacking when you meant to left-click on something. Dumb change, more suitable for a hack n slash game. Picking up loot requires walking next to the loot first, before you are allowed to right-click and collect it.
    - Tactical view is too zoomed in. Clunker than DA:O's.

It feels like the developers packed in as many concepts and areas and quest lines as possible to create a big world, but they ended up with a boring, derivative experience that lacks the wonder and character of Skyrim and some of Bioware's earlier games. I know that the combat is equally disappointing, but I could get over that if they story, characters, and world were immersive, but I have not found them engaging thus far.

    Con:
    - You need a XBOX controller for better combat gameplay. Keyboard and Mouse will function very clunky.

    - The tactical combat is a joke, it puts camera upside down and the when the enemies are spreaded out in elevated terrain, it becomes really annoying.

    - So many tedious clicks, in order to loot a small valueless dagger from a corpse, you have to click multiple times. (ideally, 2 clicks would do, but somehow you have to click multiple times on a corpse to get the inventory open.)

    - Camera is the worst part, the main protagonist has to constantly look up in the screen to shut down the green portal, at the same time the you have to constantly put your mouse cursor over the enemies to attack correctly. Every combat requires too much camera movement and reposition.

    - The game feels like open world, but most of the world are vastly empty and narrowed down to certain paths.

The tactical camera is annoying--you cannot even pan the camera up. This causes you have to have to switch between the two constantly in order to disrupt rifts/etc. The companion tactics system was completely gutted and dumbed down to be basically worthless/non-existent. You cannot even assign attribute points--in an RPG! The ability trees seem really shallow and seem like they will be maxed out in no time. I hope that you get new trees later in the game, but I'm not holding my breath.

I started on Nightmare, and the game play is super easy, so far--nothing compared to the other games where nightmare was actually a bit more strategic and difficult. Granted, I'm still stuck in the Hinterlands because the game also constantly crashes with Nvidia cards (hopefully they can sort this out soon, as many Nvidia users are having DEVICE_HUNG crashes). Maybe it'll get harder. We'll see.

I'm not sure what game the reviewers were playing, but it wasn't this one.

Bout time we get something interesting going on here.... NOPE! 1 hour later and 3 more lost messages delivered and you start to wonder if every single thing around you is just lame filler. I mean at least skyrim had actual real quests for you. This just screams out tacky mmo while you're playing it. It's so sad.

If you thought that was bad, there are bigger problems with the tactical camera. It doesn't zoom out far enough and you cannot adjust the angle of it at all the more you zoom out. It's retarded, origins tac cam was way superior than this. It's just awful... The A.I custom controls are also inferior in regards to dragon age inquisition.

As of righting this I am seriously considering getting a refund while I still can. I'm not sure if its even worth it to continue playing this.

This game is utterly great. Minor bugs aside, I haven't run into any issues. The controls are different than they were in either Origins or DA 2, that's for sure, but once you get used to it it isn't a big deal at all and things flow smoothly. And those that are complaining about graphics either haven't updated their drivers or they have sub-par specs for their PCs. "Plastic" hair is fixed if you raise the mesh count value up to high or ultra, and everything else is utterly gorgeous.

This is, simply put, one of the best RPGs released in recent memory. It redeems the franchise for the mediocre DA 2 and is a contender for GOTY for me, personally. If you like RPGs, or BioWare, or a good story with interesting characters, do yourself a favor and check this game out.

The models and world look nothing like what "Frostbite" is actually capable of. Same graphical level as a polished Da:O.
The Digital Rights Management system used consumes more power than it should.... as if it should consume any at all. This is a first even for a company of EA's ambition. I guara DAMN tee you that someone somewhere is going to crack this software and IMPROVE CPU performance while at it.
The story lacks anything cohesive and is best described as "cookie clutter". Good Lord all mighty.
Combat mechanics are GOOD because they were made for console use, don't hate it because it works well on a joypad.

Overall this game continues Bioware's downfall from a beacon of hope into an abyss of nothing. Surely you people can do better!

My suggestion is to ignore all the reviews here and go watch a bunch of lets play videos on youtube and make a decision for yourself if this is a game you want to invest your time and money.

It started nicely, loved the graphics and voice acting, the intro story wasn't well told but whatever, let's keep going. After 3 or 4 hours the game turned into Assassins Creed 1. Super repetitive. Close the demon gates, button mash the bandits with my fighter, collect items scattered in the map, and, for the other 4 hours, no interesting cutscenes or dialogs. It is filled with those kind of collect 50 stones, skulls or whatever scattered all along the map missions just to say: Hey, you have more than 250 hours of playtime. F that man.

And the camera... What a mess... Such a bad port... I don't know if it is better for the consoles, but it completely ruins the action and even the map exploration.

I should learn to wait for user reviews and never, ever, ever pre-order again. I just don't know why the media is giving so many positive reviews.

Graphics: Much improved and looks great, albeit a bit too colorful and stylish compared to Dragon Age 1 and even 2 at times. Great updates to character models, though if you pay close attention, you'll notice some recycled animations from the previous two games, most likely due to development time constraints. For once however, the Dragon Age Universe has more than one body type per race (which is great!) The environments are beautiful and quite large, but a bit misleading as it feels empty at times. Facial animations can sometimes look a bit funky, though I would chalk it up to the face I built (other character facial expressions seem fine) There are graphical glitches out there (Varren was doing squats when I spoke with him in town, guess hes gotta stay in shape) and sometimes camera angles are positioned incorrectly and go through characters while zooming in for dramatic effect.

Game play: Really a click fest, It reminds me of Dragon Age 2 but a bit toned down on the cartoon-ish aspect. The tactical view (at least on PC) is a mess and its difficult to get the right camera angle. This can be shown in some boss fights where its difficult to position your camera correctly due to size of enemy models and attempting to right click certain assets. Even on normal difficulty sometimes its best to pause multiple times to make sure you get the commands right. If you liked DA2 combat, you'll probably like this. If you preferred the RPG style in DA:O, you'll be disappointed as not much change has occurred here. There are many missions to perform but sometimes feels tiresome, much like MMO quests where you simply perform a mission for the sake of 'bolstering your inquisition' instead of moving the plot forwards. That being said, the combat is still an overall improvement compared to the previous iteration and feels more refined. Running can be agitating sometimes as it has an acceleration factor (no doubt catering to the console players)

Story: Not much in the way of story. Overall it gives the impression of trying too hard to be epic. It is a standard 'Build on your kingdom' type RPG and thus the overarching story is standard fare but you get to enjoy many fragments to piece together and build on the universe. Personally I prefer a more story focused game that has a beginning middle end, but instead it is more of one simple 'save the world' story with lots of branches. Unfortunately, choices in DA:O appear to be retconned (The grey warden is dead and a dalish female. I unfortunately don't care for DA2's story so I didn't notice any good references there) The dialogue does its job, much of it reviews on the DA universe so veterans to the series may find some of the conversation pieces boring.

Summary (tl:dr version at the bottom): Again, the game feels like it tries too hard to be epic, ideally the reboot should have tried to stand on its own feet with its own story and mechanics, but you get the impression Inquisition tries to cater to both newbies and DA veterans. There are multiple unnecessary callbacks to the previous game (way too many characters, both major and minor, return to Inquisition, damn its a small world) and it will only confuse both veterans and new players for different reasons. Newbies to the franchise may feel lost at times: be prepared to cycle through many dialogue choices to catch up on the story if you care. Due to this, your interest heavily depends on how you like the combat and game play mechanics. I suggest you look up videos on the game play to determine whether the game will be enjoyable for you. The RPG elements do their job but nowhere near as in depth as other RPG titles out there. Without a doubt, the game is a larger, more beautiful, more refined version of DA2 with a much greater emphasis on mission completion and empire building.

One final rant: Relationships. What ever happened to a good RPG that did not cater to letting you bone the various characters in the universe? In the original Mass Effect, the romance was organic to the story as you felt that you went through a great deal with your companions and thus one tasteful scene was added before the final mission. It was certainly realistic and probable. Instead now it is constantly in your face and feels forced/unnatural. DA:O was the catalyst to this and should be toned back to focus on making an actual game instead of a dating simulator.

the tl;dr version: Overall a good game. By no means great, it perhaps takes a step back towards the RPG genre but is by no means a real RPG. It still has many of the mainstream aspects you see in DA2 and that's not necessarily a bad thing. It is a 'build your empire' game, so do not expect a mind blowing story, but many different stories rolled into one bloated package. There is much to do in the game, but be sure you like the combat you see in the videos or you may find yourself bored after a few hours

Truly grand RPG for PC. Graphics are best of any game to date. Voice acting is excellent. Combat is very fun, especially when favoring use of rogue stealth and evasion mechanics or warrior charge abilities. The free-roam exploration where you just happen to run into quests and the unexpected is not at all linear and reminiscent of Skyrim.

The tactical combat so many prefer from Origins is present in all its glory, although there is a clear console-oriented simplicity to it, which may be a let-down for some. I prefer to only use tactical actions during boss fights or when being overwhelmed, so this doesn't bother me so much. However, the AI tactics you can configure for each character is very simplified, only a fraction of what was available in origins. I prefer the simplicity right now, but will probably reverse this stance when I go for a max difficulty second playthrough.

Crafting is solid and well designed. Not too overwhelming that players would ignore it. The potion design, upgrade, and replenishment mechanic is well thought out when you consider how camps are established throughout the various areas.

I had no intention of playing this game with a mouse and keyboard, and havn't tried it, but from all my gameplay with a controller I can't imagine that it is as good as with a controller. This doesn't really bother me though. For years i've favored the couch + controller over my desk + mouse/keyboard.

I strongly recommend a high end graphics card with 3GB or more of memory to max out the game settings. Very memory intensive.

GFX aren't bad, neither is the sound - but it's the controls & combat that tear the heart out of the Dragon Age franchise. The PC version of this game is simply NOT made for a keyboard + mouse. Period. It's a badly consolized port in all but name. Can't remap mouse buttons, extra mouse buttons not supported. Can't "click to move" (because consoles don't have mice), can't "click to loot" (because consoles don't have mice), no mouseover ability tooltips on your action bar (because consoles don't have mice), no screen-edge mouselook (because consoles don't have mice), there's no key to select all party members at once (because consoles don't have keyboards), etc. Spot the pattern yet?

As for combat, the hyped "tactical view" is too close / zoomed in to be useful. Inside caves it's literally totally useless. It's also rather pointless since you now can't pause and issue commands to party members one after the other as the game auto-unpauses when you switch team-members! Order party members to attack someone in real time, and they'll take ONE swing at the enemy then sporadically run off doing something else at random. It is absolutely nothing like DAO's combat and the whole "we promise we've included tactic mechanics, honest!" obviously consists of little more than an adding an overhead camera on top of half-DA2 / half-console "action adventure" game mechanics in a failed attempt to fake "strategic depth" to woo both crowds (DAO fanbase + the "casuals"). That combined with replacing auto-attack / queued actions with mindless button mashing feels more like you're playing Gauntlet and the "arcadey" input controls now bear no resemblance whatsoever to Dragon Age Origin's...

It's so blatantly obvious DAO's perfect combat system (and 40x quickslot mouse-based HUD on a 1080p screen) has been stripped out for one single reason - consoles don't have mice - therefore instead of doing what they did with the original DAO and creating a seperate optimized PC keyb + mouse + 2ft HUD, now anything that relies on a mouse will be stripped out, and replaced with a Lowest Common Denominator "simulated console controller" input. Throw in oversized HUD elements in the PC version (that are obviously designed for 10ft TV's), and the massive negative backlash against DAI (both here and on a dozen forums including Bioware's own) really is justified.

Overall rating : 2/10 (+1 for GFX, +1 for sound & music, -8 for broken lazy consolized port and "designed for young children" button mashing "tactical combat" mechanics).

My only real issues with the game are minor things like the hair looking metallic, textures popping in, and not being able to max out the settings of the game on a potato like I usually can with Bioware games. Still though this is a great game that I think everyone should play. The only reason not to buy it is if you are a Dragon Age purist who hates that they have changed the game to make it more accessible to everyone. Expand

This game is bad. Objectively terrible the story and gameplay everything about it is inferior to DA:O. What kind of person would buy a game like this? Pure slop. 0/10

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Do these people even play the game? Or do they just want to see Bioware fail? They tried to fix a lot of the DA2 problems and contrast to the reb-blue-green travesty of an ending in ME3 this one is actually quite good. Expand

Trash, Complete and utter trash. Why did they make this game? It is no way a near as good as their previous games like NWN and BG2 I simply refuse to believe that they are from the same developer. This game is truly disgusting it is a crime against humanity.

Dragon Age: Origins is a fantastic game. Dragon Age 2 was a disappointment, but was still playable and somewhat enjoyable, despite it's significant problems. Dragon Age: Inquisition, however, has so many problems and major design flaws which make it the worst game in the series by far.

The worst problem with this game is probably the combat, which has been completely overhauled and doesn't resemble combat in the first two games at all. The game is designed around using a controller in 3rd person mode and mashing the buttons while letting the AI control the other team members - this is no joke. Remember when BioWare promised deep tactical combat with a tactical camera mode for those who like tactical combat? Well, forget that, because tactical combat is completely broken. The transistion from 3rd person mode to tactical mode is not fluid, the camera in tactical mode is awkward and hardly usable, not to mention that you can harldy see the action that is taking place on the battlefield in this mode. This probably wouldn't bee too bad, but the problem is that you can ONLY issue commands in tactical camera mode for some unexplainable reason. It is hard to believe, but even in Mass Effect you have more control over the battlefield and your companions than in this successor to Dragon Age: Origins.

The tactical mode has apparently been shoddily tacked on solely to appease fans of Dragon Age: Origins or Baldur's Gate, but it wasn't designed to please them, it was designed to make them shell out cash for this game by deceiving them with false promises. Tactical combat is so frustrantingly bad in DA:I that you are eventually forced to give up playing with keyboard + mouse and just hook up your Xbox 360 controller to the PC, then mash the buttons on the controller while letting the AI control your companions. The button mashing combat isn't even any fun either, and is probably some of the worst combat i have ever seen in a game, the game plays like a really (really) bad MMO.

The console centric inventory UI is also terrible, even for console standards - another worst in the series. The story is very lackluster. Characters are boring, even returning ones. Crafting is just a complete broken mess. The world is beautiful and the graphics are fantastic, but it is such a shame to see this all go to waste with such bad game design.

DA:I simply doesn't feel like a Dragon Age game, it doesn't even feel like a Bioware game. After 3 bad games in a row and 5 years of EA ownership, I can honestly say that BioWare's game designing magic is definitely completely gone and that this once legendary studio is truly dead. Bioware (better said, EAWare) is not a seal for quality anymore, it is a brandname that you might want to avoid in the future.

The masters over at Bioware have done it again. This epic journey into the world of Thedas will steal more than 100 hours of your time, hours so full of superb gaming that you'll never forget them.

Despite numerous shortcomings, the new BioWare project is undoubtedly worth your attention. One of the best RPGs of 2014.
