Even though my PC is better than the recommended requirements, Dragon Age: Inquisition caused it to crash every 5 to 15 minutes. Hours of troubleshooting with EA's customer service didn't help, nor did any of the suggested solutions posted in various forums. It was completely unplayable. So glad I was able to get a refund. Single worst purchase I've ever made.

The customization in your hero is solid, the gameplay is awesome, the graphics are enjoyable on the Frostbite engine providing great lighting and color contrast. Best of all, the world is huge. No more being stuck in one castle with missions being instanced. This open world will take your breath away and is far more diverse than Skyrim. Expand

I have played around 30+ hours of the game, and I must say that I'm impressed. Indeed, there are low frame rate periods, the controls for mouse and keyboard are tedious (at best), and the looting system is problematic. However, I wouldn't necessarily use these points to justify a low score - it seems a lot of people are.

I played this game for its narrative and game play, and by God does it deliver! The story so far is pretty impressive and the choices you do make matter. For example, a small one shall suffice. I was in the Hinterlands after around 5-6 hours playing, and I come across a castle by chance. Inside was a cult of Andraste, who were having issues with demons. I helped the cult out and they pledged to join my Inquisition. I headed back to camp, and they were there. Another example is when I was doing an odd quest in Redcliffe village around 10-16 hours in the game and I came across a woman who needed help with potions. I told her she should join my group, and again when I arrived back a few hours later, she was at my camp helping refugees. These two examples are small, but I've used them so people can actually ignore what some jumped up techno-warriors are complaining about when they feel disappointed on release that it's buggy after only playing maybe 5-6 hours; hell, neatly every game I've played had some sort of problem on release ( that's excluding mmos)

Once you get passed the techno-issues, the game itself is actually great.

Why, you ask? I'm love with old school RPG's. I loved DA:O a lot, and played Dragon Age II just for the story, only once. Loved Mass Effect, liked Mass Effect 2 and hate ME3 ending, and ME3 in general. DAII was awfull. DA:I it's not. After playing it, I see the interviews and understand when they say "that's the Dragon Age we always wanted to make". It's the improved version of Origins.

The Graphics are not only amazing. Are breathtaking. And not only the views. The details of characters, their faces, animations... Every aspect of the visuals it's perfectly done.

The combat... Is perfect. I can't think how can be improved in anyway. The tactical camera is perfect, the AI response is nice, the difficulty, correct.

The story is a bit boring at the very beggining, but after a couple of missions, it turns in one of the best so far, with a couple of moments that will make you cry, of jump out of your sit to yell **** YES!!!

The characters are all well written. The way they react on your decisions, the way they even argue with you at some points, the way they even look you bad or with sad eyes when you say something they don't want to ear... Again, it's amazing.

And the crafting... I don't understand how the people behind the horrible DAII crafting and DA:O not-so-horrible-but-boring-and-unnecesary crafting system can create on Inquisition that wonder, that diamond. The crafting system is perfect, is like a gem, perfectly carved. It can be the best crafting I ever seen.

The Multiplayer is correct, and very interesting. It have a lot of potential. Same crafting system, same combat and same leveling system, everything simplified and harder to achieve. It's a bit repetitive, like ME3 multiplayer, but it's fun enough, and with a couple of free DLC to expand it and some special events, like Bioware did in ME3 multiplayer, it will improve a lot.

So, don't doubt it, Dragon Age: Inquisition is a masterpiece. And it comes from me. I cannot forgive Bioware for what they did in ME3, or DAII. I've lost my faith in them since they joined EA, but Inquisition is really the best first step they can get in the long way to redemption with their fan base.

And all the 0 and low scores out there... I don't know what they talking about. So far, I have not bugs, the game runs fine, and without problems. Maybe they have come here to talk about other games, because I read a lot of bad critics down here, and I think they are not talking of the same game.

It takes a moment to get into it, because at first you might be overwhelmed when you get to the first big open world area and try to get all the side quests which unfortunately is not the best idea in this game. This is probably also where a lot of the bad reviews are coming from: They just never actually followed the main story and got stuck up with the somewhat repetitive, but mostly optional sidequests in the Hinterlands (which are still lots of fun in my opinion). The main story is excellent and should be done whenever you can, when you are too low a level you can just choose an area and go questing untill you're ready to progress.

There are some problems, especially with the AI of your companions and how you control them. It's more of a problem on PC without a controller, but mostly because in previous game keyboard + mouse made the game a lot more controllable, while in Inquisition both input methods are about equal. The lack of mods is also sad, but this is a problem with the engine and not really the game itself.

In summary: Buy this game if you like an RPG where you can explore a well crafted fantasy world with a strong storyline and interesting characters. Don't get too fussy with the tactics of your AI-controlled companions and just play your character. And then get the hell out of the Hinterlands to follow the main story!

I bought this game thinking I would be getting a great tactical pc game like previous in the franchise. Instead I got a console port of a button masher. There's little strategy in combat now. Just run in and let your team cream while spamming attack button. So disappointing. Guess I won't bother with the next mass effect either.

Graphics ok. Story bit lacklustre so far at 6 hours in.

    Much more pros than cons!

This game is seriously flawed. Considering the price tag, I'm having a serious case of buyer's remorse. Here are my specific issues with the game:

Controls. The controls are awkward and unintuitive. When you click on a target you don't move to it automatically, you have to "drive" to it. It's difficult to tell what you are attacking, if anything. Frustrating is NOT fun.

Gathering. An annoying, distracting waste of time. "Let me take a short break from rushing to save the world to go off in a different direction to scrounge for elfroot.". You are CONSTANTLY scrounging for crafting materials. It's BORING and pointless. What a stupid design decision.

Search. In order to search for loot and gathering materials you need to press the "V" key to highlight the goodies in your immediate area. So you are constantly spamming the V key. Constantly. Seriously, it's like a manual SONAR that will quickly make your finger start cramping. Whatever designer thought that was a good idea should be working as a greeter at Walmart.

Inventory. The inventory interface is useless. There's a reason most RPG inventories look similar - because they work. EA went for something different here...and in this case different is definitely not better. How is it possible to make an annoying inventory interface??? EA has somehow managed.

Cursor. The cursor is so small that it is easily lost on the screen.

Seriously, who playtested this thing??? These are really basic problems.

Is there ANYTHING good about this game? Sure, the graphics look good, character creation is..."thorough" is the only word that comes to mind...and at least on my PC the installation was easy and the game runs smoothly.

    Keywords: Boring, frustrating, flawed.

I really do wish that I hadn't spent my money on this, and I would recommend that you not spend yours.

I am disappointed in the game. The developers seemed to think that creating something new would imply messing up all the game basics. While the storyline I'd give a solid 9/10, the semi-clunky gameplay brings it down to an 8, but the rampant bugs (crash-to-desktop, freeze/pop-in characters, etc.) bring it down to a 6 1/2 or 7. It's worth playing, but my advice is to wait until after a patch or two gets released so a lot of the major issues get addressed.

The tactical Camera, terrible, not worth using.

The graphics are poor at best. Expect frame rates in the low 20's at best. During actual engagements this causes a mess and you cant make out what's going on at all. My rogue would flank and stab at the air while registering hits on the enemy. Debuffs and buffs happening at the same time. Too many things going on at once.

Lip movements are not even close to the dialogue. Shiny hair and immovable facial features. After awhile you will start to dread any conversation and quickly escape to something else.

Armor/Weapon design is BRUTAL. I purchased the DA:I special edition and my coveted Dragon Armor looks like it was designed by Liberace himself. My dark rouge prancing around in Gold and Furs with shiny coins all over the front screaming left me swapping it for lower versions. I got some Dragon type dagger that looked like my moms Sterling silver serving fork with a lion on the handle.

The Audio seem ok, but get used to the same sound for footsteps drilling into your head like a badly tuned set of drums.

I give this a 2 because Origin online has the great game guarantee and they allowed me to return this game for refund, very respectable. I suggest that if you are thinking of this game but it on Origin and try it. Let the experience speak for itself.

I am actually questioning the critics scores on this one... Average user score is 5.4 but the Critics are 8.4? Seems like shilling to me.

It seems lots of people were disappointed, but in my opinion, this game is difficult to absorb in 6-10 hours, due to its massive scale with rich story line. You need to spend more time to see the glimpse of this game. In comparison, some book series have a huge scale in its story-line that first 3-5 books are boring because the first 3-5 books build up background and backbone of the core story-line. However, after 3-5 books, you are addicted to the rest of the series that you have to finish the series night and day.

I am excited right now because I know what I am going to do during the Christmas vacation. I deducted 1 point, due to some glitches I have faced and the system is forcing me to collect crafting materials repeatedly.

The camera is bad, the tactical view, so to call it that way, also has issues with trees and other objects getting in your way instead of becoming transparent as they should (which is basic really, I shouldn’t even have to mention this). There are graphical issues too, like the animations, specially the facial ones, and the hair textures looking terrible even on max settings (they might actually look worse, I’m not sure anymore). There seems to be a few random crashes, not too many times, but not it’s ideal either, I don’t know why, as other games don’t crash at all or less frequently than DA:I. There are bit of welcome humor although the main story is fairly disappointing and there are many MMO-“bring me ten of something” quests that are just annoying to do. In the end this games would receive a 6/10 right now, if they patch the controls and tactic camera it would go higher to 7 or maybe even 8 if combat became somehow enjoyable, but I doubt it. Still since this is metacritic and scores are abused left and right, this game receives a zero from me. Expand

I'm loving the game, but I'm starting with the bad because it's easier to complain than it is to compliment:

Combat mechanics have never been Bioware's strong point, and I've continued enjoying their games in spite of that since Baldur's Gate, but it's worse than usual here. Thankfully, after a few hours, I became comfortable enough with the controls that it never became a deal-breaker.

The controls are bad. The left-click to swing mechanic is a bizarre design decision that impacts your ability to control your character throughout the rest of the game. Being limited to eight abilities sucks; after a certain point, advancing my character starts to feel like wasted effort, because I can't actually use any of my new abilities without giving up the ones I've already earned. Animation-locks on attacks and abilities are painfully long which, combined with the character turning and accelerating slowly, makes me feel like I'm never truly in control of my character.

The tactical camera is nearly useless. I use it to make my party avoid dragons' fireballs, and that's it; any more interaction than that is just begging for frustration.

One of the pre-release reviews I read said Bioware had "hilariously overcorrected" for the small and reused areas in Dragon Age 2. This is pinpoint-accurate. Dragon Age 2 had a small footprint, but the quest content in that footprint was actually very well-focused and well-executed. DAI made their areas massive, and then tried to stuff the same area:content ratio into that space. They bit off way more than they could chew. The vast majority of things to do in DAI are MMO-style throwaway fetch/gather quests. It's like they used SWTOR as a model for sidequest building instead of a cautionary tale. I had a huge disappointment last night with a massive quest that had me running back and forth across an entire (huge) desert for hours, and I found nothing but an empty room with a chest of loot as my payoff.

Attention Bioware: quality over quantity next time. The best sidequest I can think of would have been the weakest sidequest in DA2.

I spent a lot of time trying to figure out how to make my character walk instead of run. Turns out it's not possible, which is baffling.

Those are the negative things I have to say. In spite of those complaints, I'm enjoying the game immensely.

Companion interactions are the best they've ever been. I absolutely love all of the new characters (save one whose entire personality consists of being completely poised at all times and calling me "dear" a lot). Seeing the way characters from DAO and DA2 have developed, and helping them along in that development, is incredibly gratifying. If you enjoy going back to camp, the Normandy, or the Hanged Man to talk to your companions, you'll love it in DAI.

I like the crafting system a lot. The level of customization in both appearance and stats is surprisingly good. Finding recipes has been a challenge, which is either good or bad depending on the type of player you are.

The world is gorgeous. The graphical quality itself is solid, but the attention to detail is excellent. I have lots of peeves with the little details in every game I play, but none of them are present here. Except the hair. The hair sucks. The areas themselves are big and beautiful. Each companion having distinct styles for their various sets of armor was a great touch.

In spite of the MMO-style sidequests, the main storyline is fantastic, and all the companion quests have been good. There are big, tough choices, several of which I can't wait to explore the other side(s) of.

This game is far from perfect, but it easily comes out on top. Some of the problems will hopefully be solved by patches and mods. The biggest problem is the handling of sidequests. If you can suppress your completionist streak long enough to avoid completing every single quest you run across, you'll have fun.

Good game. Easily worth buying, even if I wish they'd done some things differently.

I am really amazed when i come to meta critics and see the punctuation difference between professional reviewers and users. Then i check the punctuations, and i see like hundreds of 0, which makes me think (have people really played it, or people just come here to troll?)

Seriously, i feel like an 8 at least is well deserved, i could understand perhaps a 4 for people which did not like it or got disappointed because it did not extremely change from previous versions, but less than that? Ridiculous.

Awesome graphics, almost no bugs, nice playability, big maps, available to make decisions and personalize your character (not only making it, but also clothing, weapons, magic perks...) and your companions.

One could think (i will not trust professional reviewers because perhaps they got paid for good critics), but hell, seems like user score is a trolling, underestimating fest.

Looks like a war between different companies goes on by here, as almost each "top expected" game, receives a **** user score.

You basically become the tag-along in your party, as opposed to being the hero, because every AI controlled character is leaps and bounds ahead of what you can do stuck fumbling with controls and camera angles.

Alot of spells share timers, so even if you want to use them, you're suck auto attacking most of the time. I don't care how cool an attack animation looks, after you've seen it for the 1000th time, it gets old.

Undefined leveling areas. I'm constantly running into enemies that are 6 levels above me and then being lost on where to go next.

I've figured it out. It took me several days, and roughly 39 hours of gameplay to finally know the best way to describe DA:I, as I was slightly unhappy with my previous reviews. DA:I is Pac-Man. I know what you're thinking: "Did he seriously just compare an action RPG, filled with quests, characters, and story, a game released late 2014, to Pac-Man?" Yes, I did. Think about it.

You are Pac-Man; the maze-like setting of Pac-Man represents the "open world" filled with mountains, fallen trees, boulders, lakes, and such that you have to go around; the ghosts represent enemies (which, if you're like me, you usually avoid because the loot and experience isn't worth fighting consta-respawning enemies for); the pellets represent the quests (going around collecting things for no particular reason other than it's a part of the game); the power pellets represent the few times you do want, or have, to fight; points are experience; fruit is loot; new stages are new areas with more challenging monsters; and last, but not least, the world feels dead with an enormous lack of NPC interaction. The major difference is that all of this is more than acceptable in Pac-Man.

But this is Dragon Age. This is BioWare. If I wanted to play Pac-Man, I would play Pac-Man. I want to play an RPG with all the charm that I love in previous BioWare games. I want to get quests from people who have an interesting story/reason for wanting you to do their not-collection quest. I want to go up to a dwarf named Worthy and tell him he has an ironic name because it's ****ing hilarious. I did not get what I want.
I wanted so badly to love this game. I don't have much money, so I can only buy a new game every so often, and against Shadows of Mordor, against Divinity: Original Sin, various other titles that look interesting and got really high user reviews, I put my money on a brand new, no price drop BioWare, my first love. I can't stand the fact that 10-raters are calling low-raters mainstream haters and whatnot in an attempt to devalue our opinion. No, I did not get this game to hate it. I do everything in my power to love the games I buy. I even managed to find something I greatly enjoyed about DA2 (The humor was amazing. Just amazing.), the first DA letdown. I can't find anything in this game. The quests, the characters, everything is so awful. Waste of money. Dragon Age: Disappointment.

Also, a note to another reviewer (and anyone who thinks like him/her), who compared reviewing a game with this much "content" *COUGH* after only 10 hours of play to reading 20 pages of a much longer book.... That comparison would work if the game actually had content. Imagine reading the first 15 pages of that book, and it's fairly decent, though not great by any means. Then on page 16, the author suddenly decides to go 'Hey, so I know you're reading my book, but I just felt like I wanted to type random nonsense in here for a while. Don't worry, there will be a bit more plot in 30 or so pages (which you can't skip to because magic, btw), but for now I'm just going to type nothing about nothing. Except it's not nothing. Because, you know, it exists, therefore it's something. Right? I've gone and confused myself, I think. Probably because I'm a bit of an idiot who used to write great books, then somehow started writing this terrible thing. Well anyway, how are you? Oh wait, you can't answer because you're reading. It would be neat if you could though. Blahblahblahblahblahblah......................................................." Once you've played 10 hours, you know exactly what's coming up next: More collection quests, a bit of badly written story here and there, maybe a new, only somewhat interesting party member to talk to for 3 minutes, etc. This coming from a guy who has made it far enough into the game to know this is fact, not just educated guessing.

The game is boring. Still no idea how people can possibly rate it over a 5.

Pretty much if you fantasize about DA:O and how it is the best game ever created you will likely dislike this game, and give it a 0. If you enjoy other Bioware titles and RPG's in general (yes unlike what the awesome reviewers say this is an RPG (ROLE PLAYING GAME) which this definitely is...than you will like it. Are there problems? Yes.

Lets start with the bad points:

    1) if you think you can run this game with the minimum requirements and enjoy it....good luck. clearly the developers/testers didn't run a rig with the minimum requirements. Most of the grips you see regarding graphics/bugs/crashing games/greasy hair or whatever is because the user doesn't have a top spec rig that exceeds the hardware requirements for this game.

    2) combat is indeed clunky. definitely see it running better with a gamepad or on a console. no autoattack feature is kind of dumb when you are not running turn by turn combat. you do get used to it after awhile though and it gets more fluid.

    3) healing is kind of silly. pot spamming is dumb. i know they tried to make it so you have to be a little more conservative running around because you don't get your health back but when you get into a random battle that is fairly difficult you use all your pots and have to go back to camp. this leads to a lot of back and forth that is annoying. yes you get more pots as you progress, but still not the best choice imo and you probably feel this more on hard+ difficulty (i am playing on hard)

    4) ranged AI is pretty dumb. the AI does a good job with the 'tank' type characters but not the best job with the ranged AI.

    the good stuff:

    1) graphics are solid at the upper levels. so if you have a great rig you will enjoy the graphics.

    2) soundtrack is great imo.

    3) bioware's system is still evident regarding choice making and how it impacts your experience. remember people, the vast majority of games have one ending. one path. one way to get to the ending. even though i do feel like bioware has gotten a bit away from their initial awesomeness regarding choice and such, the system is still there and evident which makes you feel more attached to your character and your party.

    4) plenty of stuff to do and explore. the sidequests can be dull at times but typically exploring maps and just doing stuff around a given map will complete a number of the sidequests without actually trying for any specific side quests.

    5) gear customization is a nice addition.

    6) i like the characters in this game. they all have their own personal touches, and there isn't anders anymore. god i hate anders. so much. plus they have ron weasley aka cole hahaha

I could go on and on about it, but i think that is good enough. in summary: this game tries to do a lot and doesn't really perfect any of it which is what takes it down from being a blow out awesome game. if you want DA:O go play DA:O. It is like saying you want FF7 to be the same as FF10 and that because it is not the same than the game is trash, which is not true. I would normally give this game an 8.5/10 but because of all the troll reviews giving it a 0, which is so freaking absurd that it is funny, I gave it a 10.

One more note: don't give up on this game early. It starts slow, but gets rolling. Once you get the feel for it and past the first 'chapter' it picks up and is a good deal more fun imo.

Graphics wise it looks quite good. Some of the textures are too shiny but otherwise fine. Example: Wet stone bricks.
Performance wise it runs at 60 FPS on mostly ultra except some settings (AA, tessellation) At the time of writing this review I have these specs:

GPU: MSI R9 270X Gaming OC Edition (Slight Overclock)
    RAM: 12 Gb GSkill DDR3 1666 Mhz

I am going to be installing the new beta AMD drivers that are said to add a 5% performance boost to Inquisition.

Also, the story, the characters, the writing, the combat, the depth, all sub par. It seems the creators of inquisition were really only interested in putting out the lowest quality, highest profit margin game possible.

Does EA really believe that PC gameplay is dead or do they only wish it were? Their are still many of us who enjoy playing games on the PC. Ostensibly because games played on the PC offer things like roll over information to better understand an ability, skill, spell etc... The ability to map your keyboard to get the key combinations perfect for your game play control. The ability to use the mouse to pan and zoom anywhere on a map or battlefield. To have a "free camera" so you can move around a battlefield to enable ultimate tactical control. To use the mouse to "click" on objects to perform a behavior, activate an option or expand a view. Creating games on a PC gives the developer a rich toolset with which to work and gives me as a player a rich world to explore and play in. Apparently rich, in depth and customizable is no longer in vogue.

The quests, like others have communicated ad nauseam, are dull and made to simply keep you busy doing nothing. In most cases they do not in any way enrich the experience of playing the game. I want quests that advance the story, not my boredom.

I like immersion. A disconnect from from everyday reality. An adventure filled with interesting characters, witty dialog, surprises, puzzles and mystery. Inquisition delivers none of that... It's a game for the mindless.

I like depth. I want to have deep skill tree's, to be able to craft something not only usable but unique to my play style. I want to design each character I control so that they are unique and that fit into my battle scheme in a way that is synergistic to my party. Inquisition has none of that... It's a game for the shallow.

I like tactical combat. I want to control every aspect of the battlefield. I want a camera that doesn't let the environment get in the way and allows me to see the entire field of play. I want to be able to utilize the pre-designed talents, skill sets and attributes of each member of my party in a way that allows me to win a battle with skill and intellect. I want an AI to compete against that does more than just swing a sword or cast a spell. I want the AI to block, counter spell, use the environment and surprise me. Inquisition has none of that... it's a game for those who like arcade style combat.

To say I'm disappointed is an understatement. All of the things that made Origins and to a lesser extent DA:2 fun and engaging are now gone. That which made Bioware great has been destroyed by mediocrity, neglect and laziness.

Ultimately the promise of Dragon Age Inquisition is like very many things these days. It's all marketing, misdirection and a drive by the developer to maximize profit.

No more Bioware (EAWare) games for me until they decide to honor their promise.

Quests: the main body of quests simply consist from go to point A and kill x enemies, take their claws/meat/skin and bring it to point B or go to point A, find 10 flowers there and bring them to point B. You do not want to do this? Oh well, then you are screwed since you need points generated from these quests in order to be able to play the main story campaign.
Minimap: It is completely blank. There is in arrow showing in which direction you should go to find the quest area - you cannot go straight forward because you have huge mountain in the way - too bad, because there is no terrain displayed on the minimap. So you have to press 'M' to open the large map and check it. You have to do this over and over again just to check you are heading in the right direction.
Combat: There is no auto-attack, so when you are fighting larger boss enjoy crazy clicking. Detection of hits is clunky as well. You are 1 m far away from the enemy - enjoy swinging your sword/daggers in the air. Do you like pausing the game and issuing orders to your companions while solving difficult combat situations? Forget it, it is not possible here. You have to have tactical camera enabled. Which is buggy as hell. That eventually lead me to no pausing game at all (even when I was pausing zealot in DA 1 and DA 2). You want to loot something on the ground? Hmm there is icon of hand displayed, but caution - you have to be like 1 cm away from the object, otherwise you character is not able to loot it.
Conversations had been simplified as well. There is no clever writing as it was presented in DA 1 and DA 2. Despite being huge fan of Bioware and their previous games (I have all expansions to DA 1 and DA 2 and I have played it multiple times) I cannot recommend this game to anyone. I just wanted to warn you - do not spend your money on this game. It is not worth it. If you had the strength and continued to read this "review" till the end - thank you.

Speaking of MMORPGs, the quests are frequently of a similar fashion: "collect 10 fur pelts", "close 2 rifts", etc.

Many players are voicing their concerns on the BioWare forums. Here's hoping BioWare listens and is able to correct some of the issues with patches. The game feels like it was designed for consoles first and the gameplay was designed to be enjoyable for those without a keyboard and mouse. Nothing wrong with that, but the game they shipped is very different than what they promised PC gamers who were disappointed in Dragon Age II.

Also, it's very surprising so many "professional" reviewers haven't reported the issues I listed. I'm guessing either they're unfamiliar with Dragon Age: Origins (and it's spiritual predecessor, Baldur's Gate) and reviewed a console version.

Some people complain about story, when they haven't even finished the tutorial. Some speak about performance issues, when others with weaker config have none. Yet the low scores are somewhat fair: if you don't enjoy the game in the beginning, why would you wait for the story to get better? Why would you fiddle with settings?

And the game starts with an EA logo and if you have half as much bad experiences with EA as me, you would start to be worried. Mr Pavlov explained how your body and mind reacts to the expected disappointment. And EA can only thank themselves for this problem. After all: I paid for some products online, EA didn't deliver it. I bought some games on Origin store, and the activation missed the release date listed on EA Hungary page. We seen bugs, we seen issues with quality, and we seen numerous soulless games. And when EA was happy with these issues, I warned them about the issue: If your body and mind learns to react to EA logo with anger, worry, etc. even the best games will be harder to enjoy. And on the long run it will be reflected in reviews. Both on here, in blogs and on other sites where I write full reviews.

If you were unhappy with Bioware games recently it will be even worse. When intrusive DRM, some other issues get in your face? You know the drill. Should I add weak facial animation? Or that sometimes hair an skin doesn't only look like pastic, but it is worse than my first attempt to render a human being in DAZ Studio? And that even you with 0 experience can achieve better result? Or that even commercial stock models and textures can look better? And before you say they wouldn't be unique, I would add: with morphs, some texture and shader editing tools they would. And they can be imported to some engines in better quality. So you would expect better shaders even from an indie game made by a newbie hobbyist developer. Why should we accept it from EA then?

And people who favored Bioware before loved that we don't start as prisoners who will be revered as hero after the first mission now also see shackles and how we can become heroes after the tutorial. Why shouldn't we call it a disappointment? We can explore several huge zones, but even if it takes time to travel from one end of a zone to other, it isn't an open world experience. Some would say: Having to walk a lot, without ability to explore the "whole world" isn't that great. Some others would even point out: Some games have proceduraly generated areas for replay value. Huge areas can help a bit with the mood, but are also a huge time sink. And there are pretty good tools to generate such maps AND export them to the level editor where game designers can edit and customize it.

When Performance depends mostly on how your HDD, CPU and RAM can cope with DRM and instead of normal bugs you can end up with a few extra crash to desktop issues thanks to the DRM you would have quite a few reasons to feel unhappy with the game even a bit early, and at that time you won't enjoy the complexity of the setting, the story or anything else. You will judge it based on the tutorial. If an event isn't explained *yet* when you stop playing will stay as unexplained to you. So disaappointed players tend to stay disappointed for a reason. Because they don't have reason to keep playing and see the enjoyable parts of the games.

And while my score is in the green as it is a positive review it won't be anywhere close to 10. Because even if there are many enjoyable parts of the game, its colorful and detailed settings, some interesting characters and areas, etc. are nice... And the story written by Bioware is still a good one. That is remarkable quality. But not something that would let us forget the issues present both in the game, and around EA that can kill the fun for a lot of players. 6/10... And close to 60%. It isn't a nice score. But if we would take out issues with EA and how their shady history affect our enjoyment of the game... Things would be different.

If we would forget what Bioware promised for Mass Effect 3, what they promised for SWTOR and how they released weaker products? It would be easy to explain why DA 2 was good, and we would be far more motivated at the begining of DA 2. And then we would slay time flew while we got past of the tutorial. And the nice story would get a better emphasis. That would be somewhere between 7/10 and 8/10. Fix the shaders and some bits of animation? It wouldn't be much, but would improve the game greatly. It would be easy to say: 8/10-9/10 range.

No crash to desktop? No performance issue due to DRM? Better camera control? Less console port feel? It would be a solid hit. I am sure the shader and animation issues are due to a deadline. It would be easy to fix it with a bit more time. I am sure the intrusive DRM and created perfomance issues is still in EA land. And the pavlovian issue starts with the EA logo. Developers tried hard, but EA ruined most of it.

Anyhoo, its by far the best RPG I've played this year, personally, no fan of divinity which comes off as very childish to me. I enjoy the environment, characters, and combat. There are definitely some problems with the game too, however, none are game breaking or detrimental to immersion (very important for story driven games). The problems are all mechanical due to poorly porting from consoles. The UI, and tactical cam can be annoying, clunky at best, and not having any hot keys other than 1 to = is just weird.

All these problems are fixable, and i'm pretty sure they will be fixed (in the least improved).

Honestly can't say how much I feel betrayed , by all the promises of "going back to the tactical mode of DAO" crap that Bioware pushed down our throats,. Also by all the positive reviews, here and in other places as well, as they are all payed for these, as no sane person would give it positive score on PC.

I just don't understand how is it possible to **** up this bad controls on PC, when you already had them nailed down on DAO...it just feels like MMO but worse than SWTOR - their own MMO. I will be refunding the game until all this is fixed, or if not will look in other titles to support.

Basically what Bioware did here, was to tell us to bend down little further while they are standing behind us unzipping..

I'm disappointed by the game so much that I felt the need to write a review.

But the Main story is lacking at best. The ending and the pacing is just off. and much of it seems reminiscent of the mistakes done in KOTOR II

The characters are interesting however after finishing it all, I can't seem to get that closure or satisfaction I gained from KOTOR I ME2 DAO or the baldurs gate game
The MMORPG semi open world fools gamers in believing that there is more to it, but you later find out most of the missions relevant nor worth the time.

It seems that DAI is the embodiment of what bioware was and what it's trying to be.
Sadly, much of what it was reflects the mistakes which Bioware made
and What it's trying to be deviates from what used to make Bioware great.

I do think they tried harder then Dragon age II. And it is indeed an enjoyable game
However, I truly hope they search into their masterpieces, and try to go back to their roots for their next (maybe final) installment of DA series. MMORPGS and Slacky main stories cannot be tolerated, however interesting character plots and contents are.

This is the best computer RPG ever made, and I'm going back 25 years. The pacing of the story, the dialogue options, the scope of the world, Sky Reach... I'm utterly blown away. If you like RPGs and you thought that you'd have to wait until Witcher 3 to play a good one, give DA:I a bash. It's phenomenal. Definitely GOTY.

The only time the cinematic style of dialogue is used is when a major quest is completed; otherwise, when you talk to other characters, the camera displays the conversation in the same way as it displays your character when you're controlling him or her.

The dialogue itself is superbly written and acted - and there is A LOT of dialogue. At the character creation screen, you can choose from two different voice actors to be the voice of your Inquisitor. For my character in particular (male human mage), you can choose between a British and American Accent. As is the norm in BioWare games, the voice acting, as I already said, is fantastic. Each area that you can explore is huge and there are a lot of optional side quests to do. However, completing any quest benefits the Inquisition's reputation, power (a currency used to buy locations on the war map to explore), number of NPCs working for you, or sometimes all three. So even completing side quests feels like you're contributing to your main campaign. Another aspect of the game worth mentioning is the adviser system. You'll have three advisers in total who represent your military strength, diplomacy, or spy service. There will be conflicts of opportunity on the war map throughout the entire game and you can resolve these conflicts by enlisting one of your advisers. When the adviser is has resolved the conflict, you'll either get a reward such as gold, reputation, or an item, or a new area to explore.

DA: I is an RPG masterpiece and a must own game. Do yourself a favor and get it.

If you wanted another Dragon Age Origins play that. This is a new game with a new engine and has changed accordingly. I loved DAO, not too keen on DA2 and so far I love this. This is not a definitive review as I am nowhere near the end but felt the need to put something up because of the amount of nonsensical zero scores and reviews that have been posted here. I find that this review section is indicative of gamers now, the its not exactly what i wanted it to be mentality that is rife in the community is ridiculous. This game is not made for you, its made to appeal to a wide audience of people.

But if you are going to slam something at least put in some meaningful play time. 2 hours is not reasonable time to fully judge a game of this size. I personally was pulled into the story so that aspect worked for me. It reminds me of the whole Mass Effect 3 fallout. Did I find the ending all I hoped it would be? No. But that was the ending of the story as the writers had it. There are numerous books that I love that may not have gone the way I wanted but I understand the writes choice. Games are the same when it comes to narrative driven ones. Giving a book a zero after reading 20 of 400 pages is a joke.

None of these issue's are mentioned in what i used to think was a reputable and trustworthy site, pcgamer,
who give the game an unjustified 87/100 score.
For once, the metacritic user score and comments are the closest to the truth when it comes to the state of the game.

The story is terrible, it really is.
I couldn't get hooked into it like previous games.
The characters are soulless and the plot is just plain wrong, boring and unbelievable.

The graphics are ok, optimization seems ok, but if this had the gameplay of the original, i wouldn't mind if it looked like pong.

Im a bit gutted that i purchased my game through G2A, which offer no refunds, right when i didn't need to waste money,
but this was truly a waste.

It feels like im playing a really bad version of World of Warcraft single player, with better graphics.
The gameplay is just as brainless, and your on your own.

I don't know whats happened to bioware, i really don't.
But i definitely won't be so hasty to dive straight in and expect good quality games again.

Perhaps this is not the best place to debate this but it is so obvious in regards to this amazing product.
If given a bit of time and patience it just can not be ignored that the game is absolutely spectacular in every sense. It gives the player an enormous and absolutely gorgeous world to explore, exploration is rewarding as there is always something to be found, plenty of secrets in every corner. Very well developed characters, mesmerizing music, fluid combat, very good writing greatly emphasizing characters and atmosphere, incredible freedom, fulfilling character progression, absolutely tons of content in form of side quests, mini games, achievements that grant rewards that make sense to the game economy, fun smiting and upgrade system and overall great atmosphere and fun gameplay.

The only major shortcoming is perhaps the lousy PC controls and overall adjustment to PC - which is in fact completely lacking. It is clear that the developers were having a clear console approach while designing and did not care to adjust the game to PC users before release. This makes the controls a bit clunky and takes some patience to get used to. The in game menus are also lacking in the sense that they are designed for a non mouse / keyboard view and controls, somewhat similar to the same issue in Skyrim.

But seeing how much the game has to offer, how truly great was the vision of the developers in making a huge and involving fantasy world with tons of things to do, how rich beautiful and constantly alive the world feels, the issue with the pc version seems to diminish in light of those.
I truly can not understand how anyone could feel the game to be blend, boring and badly written. It is truly a mystery.

9/10 because of the lack of proper PC version adjustment.

I don't want to look like a fan boy trying to counter the ridiculous people posting 0 and as people have noted there is a relatively minor issue with the tactical camera in that there are some occasions when you could do with being able to zoom out more.

Why do I rate this so highly?

The graphics? The graphics are very good and the world both huge and depicted in beautiful detail.

The combat? The combination of action and tactical combat works well for the most part and is great fun. But the tactical camera issue does need resolving. For tactical combat to work most effectively the game needs both a longer zoom and a separate pause button instead of combining them.

The gear and the crafting? I really enjoy this aspect of the game and the way you can modify parts of weapons and armour to customise them for your characters and play styles if you can find the schematics and have the raw materials. Some people find it overly complex but for me it's absorbing.

So what then? Why do I rate this game so highly?

The story and the characterisation. This series has always been rightly lauded for this but DAI has taken it to the next level. This is as close as any game has ever got to being an interactive novel. Every character, not just the main characters have their own story. Each one is voiced superbly. However when it comes to your main characters this gets dialled up to 11.

The Rogue in your party isn't just a rogue. He's Varric (and featured in DA2). He's a dwarven merchant, teller of tall tales and as he puts it 'occasional tag-along'. He has a crossbow named Bianca, but that's a tale he isn't going to tell. Underneath his slightly world-weary cynicism you can tell he's an idealist. He's the type of guy you'd want as your friend and the type of guy who will be by your shoulder when things turn ugly.

And they're all like that. They have feelings towards you and each other that can change over the course of the story in line with what you say and do so your choices and actions have real consequences.

What brings this all together is the incredible depth of the world. This is a place every bit as realised as Middle Earth and as you adventure you learn more and more about its history, its religions and its politics. This isn't just cosmetic detail, its the context within which your actions and choices take place. What you say and do can shape the world.

I could go on but you get the drift. This is the FRPG release of the decade.

Finally - technical issues. I'm playing on Ultra settings and MSAA2 (?) anti alias at 2060*1050 on an i5/8MB/GTX 780 system. I'm not having any technical problems. Very occasionally (as in twice in 20 hours) I needed to run the free memory cleaner I use as standard to clear stuttering and I'm sure that was as much to do with me application swapping and doing stuff on the second screen as the game itself.

So in summary - DAI is extremely good and certainly does not in any way merit the ridiculous scores of 0 being given or the frankly bizarre reviews that accompany them.

This game ties in with Origins, II, and almost every book very well. The characters are all great. I was afraid that Varric would be the only interesting companion, but they're all great in their own way. This game is also very pretty. I play on maximum settings and the lighting alone is impressive.

I have had a few minor hiccups with the game, like soldiers training not hitting where they were supposed to, or people standing in benches, but nothing important. People are overreacting about bugs, but this is a huge game, comparable to Skyrim, and it has less than a tenth of the problems. I've only had the game crash once, and I have already spent 60 hours in the game.

Basically the complaints here are superficial or people not giving it a chance after Dragon Age II. The gameplay, graphics, story, and characters are top notch, and it is definitely the newest RPG to sink several hours into.

It's a pretty decent game, if not a little confusing. Let it be known, however, that this game caters more towards the MMO crowd, without the massive aspect. This "MMO-ness" is mighty obvious in the first 30-40 hours. From the way combat works

The winds tell me that this game was originally intended to be an MMO, but Bioware decided to change it over to a single player game later on.

This "MMO-ness" is mighty obvious in the first 30-40 hours. From the way combat works (basic attack + skills for extra damage), to how the enemy AI behaves, and how the quests are set up.

With that said, let's talk about pros and cons.

    Pros:
    1) Great visuals. I do have a rig capable of cranking this game to its max. The world is pretty colorful, especially the city of Val Royeaux. Seems fairly well optimized for PC as well, with no instances of lag so far. Rig has a i5-4690K and a GTX 780 Ti, no overclock.

    2) The story is pretty well written. I did not have the foresight to preserve the save files from Dragon Age: Origins or Dragon Age II. I've had to use the Dragon Age Keep Tapestry system. I very much enjoyed the references littered throughout the game to past decisions. So far, I've enjoyed the story of the game.

    3) The combat is decently fun. If you are a MMO player, the set up should be familiar to you. I also liked the skill tree setup, where different specializations can be mixed together to form a deadlier concoction.

    Cons:

    1) The controls. I'm amazed that Bioware does not seem to acknowledge that some people have dual screens in 2014. With dual screens, your mouse pointer is allowed to wonder out of the game to the secondary screen. If you click it while it isn't in game, your game will minimize. This is annoying.

    2) The story, while enjoyable, is poorly paced. It's slow and painful, especially if you intend to complete side quests while you're at it.

    3) The quest line is a mess in the beginning. As mentioned earlier, this game was originally intended to be an MMO, and it shows here. The first large area you find, The Hinterlands, has a seemingly endless list of quests and sidequests, scattered across a large map with no sense or reason. Be prepared to spend a lot of time walking back and forth.

    4) The combat can get pretty repetitive. Again, this originally being an MMO, it's almost completely a hotkey mashing affair.

7/10, I think, is a fair score for this game. It's certainly not the blockbuster epic game that the professional reviewers make it out to be.

While it has its faults, chief among them the further dumbing down and cookie cutter aspect done to your character and companions as well as the oversimplified and nearly useless AI system for your companions. Yet despite those rather nasty faults, the game is both beautiful in its graphics and art as well as the world being massive for those of us who like exploring. Bioware did a grand job with the art, graphics and variety of everything visually environment to a large variety in your equipment appearance based upon materials used in its making - a solid 10 in my book for those aspects alone. The story is interesting and the huge crafting system is one of its other best aspects another solids 10 aspect for any non-MMO RPG.

However, because the negatives are so glaring and stand out so strongly to players, I will first expand further upon what I consider to be its biggest fault: They have taken away everything that makes your character unique beyond your appearance leaving you a cookie cutter of every other mage/rogue/warrior. First they took away your ability to assign stats and have your character's physical and mental attributes grow different from others. Now every mage, rogue or warrior is literally a cookie cutter of every other with all (your character and like companions) sharing fixed stats with very minor stat increases only gained from your skill choices and larger ones from equipment enhancements - both restricted depending upon your class. No longer can you choose to build a agile or cunning character that does better crits unless you are a rogue. Those stats (Dex and Cunning) are essentially blocked out for mages and warriors. Mages can only get improved Magic, Will and Con - their Strength, Cunning and Dexterity all remain stagnant at the starting "10." Warriors can get Strength and Con but apparently cannot improve Magic, Cunning, Will or Dex - those stats staying locked at their starting 10. Rogues are similarly limited to Strength, Con, Dex and Cunning with others stuck at the starting 10. This makes everyone exactly like everyone else of their type - no individuality allowed whatsoever beyond what skills/spells you focus on first. Furthermore they further reduced the number and variety of skills/spells available for you to use. Magic became further constrained with magical healing somehow, and without explanation, disappearing from Thedas. Potion spamming ala Diablo is now the only healing method.

The other notably large disappointment was the severely dumbed down AI system. You can no longer set conditions and actions as you could in DAO and DA2 - in other words, no pre-game huddle with your companions with orders to do certain things under certain conditions. If you want that you now must micro-manage the companions by pausing the game and giving them specific orders when you want them to do something particular.

Despite those rather nasty degradations to the DA franchise, I still give this game an overall positive score because it has listened to fans and made for a large and varied world to play in. No longer are you forced down narrow paths from point A to B to C and etc like you were in the previous two games. And importantly it isn't just a large empty world. There are creatures to be battled (and skinned), treasures and lore to be found as well as other crafting materials to be harvested for the awesome crafting system they have put in. Not only can you make all of your own equipment for you and your companions, but you can use a large array of different materials for a different appearance and effects. You can even make upgrades/enhancements for your equipment that also further change its appearance.

The story itself is interesting and memorable for the fact that they bring back many characters from the previous two games, though not all in appearance they are at least mentioned within the story and what they are now doing in the world. Leliana, my favorite companion from DAO, is back with a major role as one of the leaders/advisors of the Inquisition.

So, just as there is much to hate about Inquisition there is, in my opinion, so much more to enjoy as well. The environments are beautiful with varied weather and the characters are well voice acted. Oh and one other thing worth noting, though a small difference I think it makes for a very notable improvement to the game experience - particularly immersion. You can now climb and even JUMP up to new locations and over obstacles.

There are very few games that I end up exiting out of within 10 minutes of attempting to play. Most of them are obscure indie games and a couple old games that at this point are an eyesore. Only games that came out within last 5 years that I can't play without wanting to throw my keyboard across the room are from EA. This one is one of them.

Controls in this game are absolutely atrocious. I can't even imagine who invented them and figured out how to lay them out. It's torturous, you might as well not bother. No click to move, movement responses are extremely slow, camera controls are probably the most unintuitive thing in existence. Tactical mode took me good 5 minutes of bashing my head against the wall to even try to understand how to navigate. In short?

Graphics? I play on a 4k screen. 4k resolution is a double edged sword. It makes good games look better, it makes bad games look worse (because all the flaws become that much more apparent.) This game looks atrocious on my screen even with all graphics maxed out, textures are worse than the high-res stuff from DA2, animations are twitchy, they still can't figure out how to properly model/texture/animate hands, emotions and expressions pop out only briefly during the line being spoken and then faces return to their static self. It was definitely made for current gen consoles, so it's not as bad as most x360 or ps3 console ports, but nobody in their right mind would honestly say that consoles are anywhere near PC's in terms of performance when you examine high end (and 2x 290x in crossfire is high-end, no matter how you turn it.)

Multiplayer is very similar to ME3 multiplayer, mostly a tacked on experience that has little to do with the rest of the game, but it's basically everything I said above x10. It looks awful, it's terribly gated (limited to 3 starting characters, very little modification, no cosmetic modification available)

I'm sorry, but for a modern game this is absurd, EA/Bioware did literally nothing for the franchise, it's one of the most overhyped, unplayable games of the year, and the fact that it made it to PC is infuriating because there was obviously next to no adjustments made to port it over FROM console version.

I didn't even bother to check out the gameplay videos and stuff before buying the digital deluxe edition because I was THAT confident it was going to be an awesome game (Clearly that was the wrong move).

So I got it on Origin and started downloading it.. Took me about half a day or so for me to finish it here (we don't have very fast internet speed T.T) and was super excited to come home after work to play it. However, my curiosity got the better of me and I decided to check Metacritic (and other sites) for reviews about it. I was surprised and disappointed to find out that it was not the DA I was looking forward to. A game, that was originally and CLEARLY for the PC (talking about DA:O) had been made into a game for console and they ported it to PC just to earn (A LOT OF) extra cash. Read that some users said that EA (or was it Bioware?) were gonna make time to actually make it feel like it was for the PC and not just an obvious port from the consoles (can't remember the actual quote).

Well, all I can say is that DA:I is nothing like the DA I knew. The DA I knew gave me an awesome tactical view so I could control ALL my characters effectively and effortlessly. The DA I knew did not make me hold a key to auto attack. The DA I knew did not make me walk all the way loot before letting me pick it up (But apparently there's a key to pick up stuff? well, the tutorial didn't tell me about that..>.>) . The DA I knew did not make the game feel like a typical MMORPG.. Dragon Age: Inquisition, is not dragon age anymore.

Another thing I did not like was the skillset. Damn. when I saw the same exact (or rather very similar) skills they had for the mage NOT ONLY THAT but they skill trees were even fewer from the first game (or second game? I can't remember exactly). I was really disappointed that time and did not want to continue anymore. I returned the game before the 24hr mark without much thought.

I did not get far enough into the story to comment on it. The character customization made my character look a bit more ugly than I expected but all that I could look past. But the gameplay I could not. Maybe if I played a little longer I might have gotten used to the controls but I did not want to because this is not the dragon age I expected or wanted.

Dragon Age Inquisition might be the best RPG version of all the other dragon ages, (according to most of the reviews anyway.. >.> ) but it is certainly not a dragon age game anymore. Don't buy this game if you expect a dragon age game, but if you don't mind the change in gameplay style, and you liked the characters from before, and if you think the story is okay, go right ahead but just check it out properly first before you head to store and get one without thinking just because of the hype and the good reviews.

The visuals are also very good. The illusion of being in a very large and open world is effective until you try and venture too far off the predetermined path Bioware planned for you and you realize you are simply walking in beautiful corridors. Oh you can stray off the roads and collect an herb or ore node but rarely can you get to anywhere meaningful. For the most part it is one of the better looking mazes you will ever find your way through.

PC game play? This is where the game falls flat on the face, breaking a nose and knock out two teeth. The controls are in no way PC friendly and obviously a poor console UI port over. Do yourself a favor and get an Xbox controller to play this game with or just get the console version of the game.

Lastly, the quad core minimum requirement is an actual minimum requirement. No playing with dual core and putting up with bad performance. It won't run on anything less than 4 logical cores and probably never will. Which is odd because other Frostbite games can.

I see complaints about combat, graphics, bad story and writing??? What freakin game are they playing? I admit it took a while to get going at first, but once the story really engages (about lvl 7) all those complaints are incredibly minor points to the experience to be had. Do not let these "critics" scare you because there's no way they're playing the same game.

If you haven't bought the game, buy it. If you tried it and couldn't get over the initial impression because you wanted something else, pick it back up and play more. You'll be glad you did and I bet you'll feel silly about judging it on something as trivial as a wonky tactical view.

The first major plot point comes about 15 hours in and the whole story changes. Additional specialty skills and stats open up, you're no longer stuck with basics. Characters develop and deepen.

It's like screaming "Star Wars" is an horrendously awful movie because you watched the first ten minutes and think it's about a dumb kid wandering around in a desert. Who would want to watch that piece of garbage?

I too played the first two games, DA:I is definitely in the spirit of both (leaning towards DA:O) and great fun once you sink into it. Yes, the keyboard/mouse combat on PC gets some getting used to but is awesome & satisfying once you do. Yes, they could improve the loot gathering, you have to get very close to click which can be annoying, but again you get used to it. Yes, the tactical cam can get unruly sometimes as it does in other games with tactical cams. There are also settings you can change to adjust many things more to your liking, how your party fights, etc.

The complaints about it not being an RPG are utterly absurd. As are complaints about boring quests, um, just don't do them? There are billions of quests which is the whole point, you can do as much or as little as you want as you move forward. This game has an incredible amount of breathing room and customization, if you don't love a default setting then there is likely a way to change it if you bother looking. If you don't want to do a quest, don't do it. The amount of content is staggering but in a good way - you have choices.

The hardware complaints may be real but I'm playing on a Mac using Bootcamp with 7GB left on my drive and a freaking HD4000 internal graphics card and it runs/looks great. Go figure. The attention to detail in this game is amazing. FYI to reduce shiny "plastic" hair just set the mesh setting to high even if you're running other settings on Low. Big whoop. So much impatience and so much missing out.

To the developers who obviously spent years and put a great deal of care & imagination into this beautiful game, kudos.

To those considering buying DA:I: if you want to submerge yourself in an epic RPG with awesome scale and scope that will take over your life for a month then it's a must buy. If you want something familiar "get from point A to point B as quickly as you can" that will run on Grandpa's old PC and is wrapped up in 20 hours then maybe it's not the game for you.

(srsly 58 hours since the european release.... 4 days ago....) Also: I want to apologize for all the grammar mistakes in this review, but i am writing this after 13 hours of playing Dragon Age Inquisiton without sleep x).

Anyway, Iam going to make this short so:

+ Great Atmosphere and immersion. For example: Story and NPCs reacts to Race, Class and even Class specialization.
+ Conclusion of many open questions of the former games, like "What happened to the warden, Morrigan or Hawke?".
+ Multiplayer is challenging and fun..... repetitive but fun.
+ 2 selectable voices per gender.... avaible for all races.
+ Level design is quite decent.
+ Even if most people disliked it: I loved the new combat (you know... the combat without heal spells.)

+/- sometimes the story is cliche
+/- Main plot length is 30-40 hours... still enough but i hoped for a bit.... more.... i mean srsly? We are speaking about The 3. part of the Dragon Age series.
+/- Graphics are ok. (I dont really care about graphics, so..... yeah no impact on my rating)

    - The **** Bioware-employees are doing again. Stop writing good reviews here.
    - Way to many sidequests. They should have focused on the Main plot.
    - Your choices have no visible effect....... Wow. Bioware. JUST **** WOW. (literally xD)
    - Poorly optimized. (self-explanatory)
    - No storage ingame.........
    - Feels like a **** console-port. But hey (for the mentally retarded: the following sentences contain a high amount of sarcasm) lets not forget: Atleast they were kind enough to allow you to play with mouse+keyboard. You should be grateful and buy the first dlc immedialte. How nice of them.
    - NO ENCHANTMENT.

Summary: Apart from its (many) flaws the game is a prime example, how choices depending your character (race, class, specialization) should have an effect on the story. On the contrary side: It also shows how turning away from the series´s core (story and choices) and favoring consoles may lead to a **** disaster. In the end i can say the same about Dragon Age Inquisition as about Dragon Age II: Its neither good nor bad.

You enter a house full of books, fruits, items, etc. You can't touch/check anything! They're all dummies. You can interact with only a few percent of NPC (at most), dialogues are dull and minimal, which makes all characters flat and uninteresting. What's worse the game does not make any effort at all to convince the player that his dialogue options have any meaning for the gameplay. Basically it doesn't really matter what you will say to NPC. All this together make this game a mediocre action rpg, with much more action elements than rpg. EAwere committed an atrocity on the genre. My last ever pre-order from western producers/distributors. Nothing left to do but wait in sorrow for the Witcher 3 and Pillars of Light. Expand

First of all, I'm a longtime RPG fan. I've played and loved all the classics and pretty much all the newer games in the genre, right since Dungeon Master of old, through Baldur's Gates, Planescape, Eye of Beholders, Divine Divinity, right up to Divinity: Original Sin and Dragon Age: Inquisition. No one could conceivably label me as an ADHD Call of Duty teenaged clickwhore.
That being said, Dragon Age Inquisition is a superb game.

I have to admit I was worried when the first trailers and concept art went public. I hated the slick third person pseudoopenworld levels with cool dragons and everything exploding. I hated the party member characters, with their fanservice almond eyed sorceresses and pornstached homosexual mages. I fully expected this game will be all style and no substance, further cementing my opinion that the Bioware I knew and loved was gone for good. I mean okay, Dragon Age 2 was sort of fun and I finished it and it wasn't entirely unsatisfying, but I expected a lot more.

I couldn't have been more wrong about DA:I. This game is great. The writing is good and clever, the humour is mostly subtle, the story makes sense and is interesting, the decisions feel like they have real impact, the party members are quirky and likeable. And the cool graphics actually breathe life into the levels and create a world which you will want to explore. And I'm not even talking about the little touches, the codex entries that are well written, the way the world subtly reacts to your chosen race and in-game decisions, the sheer UNBELIEVABLE amount of stuff to do.

I know you guys hate EA. I'm not the biggest fan, either. I also don't like Denuvo DRM that's part of this game. But come on - the game is clearly a labor of love and Bioware deserves recognition. This is the direction I want them to go in their future games. This is what it looks like when they do it right. It's simply a different type of RPG from your Wasteland 2 oldschool RPGs, but it's no less of a great game (and a great roleplaying game at that) than those oldschool Kickstarted projects.
Don't join the sheep in their bleating. Recognize this game for what it is without prejudice. It's awesome.

(For the record, DAO was one of my favorite games, I actually liked DA2 and I LOVED the Mass Effect series, ending and all, so no BIOWARE grunge here. Also no EA grunge either, they were polite and quick to refund).

Positives: The game looks beautiful (if a little plasticy), when it doesn't crash... As I wrote the refund was issued immediately so kudos to EA/Origin for that I guess...

As a side note it's incredible that all "professional" reviewers who supposedly played DO:I on PC, seem to be so blasé about the Kb&mouse controls. In my 20 years of gaming I do not remember ever having to quit a game because of frustration (and I have played Gothic 2). Yet it seems that every "critic" simply feels that the controls and UI are not something worth mentioning or have any impact on the rating...

I have no idea what the complaint is about the DRM, I wouldn't have even known it was there unless I read these reviews. I bought the game from Origin, downloaded and launched. Job done.

Over all from about 5 hours play it seems like an enjoyable game. Are the graphics the best? - no. The Witcher 2 (which I am replaying at the moment) pisses all over this graphically, but it is a different game. The graphics are OK (on maximum), sometimes they look good, at others they looked aged, but it is not the be-all and end-all. The controls are buggy and the cuteness are laggy but the latest Nvidia drivers helped a lot there.

The game play I have seen is OK, not amazing, but I am only just starting out. I intend to keep it & shelf it
for 2-3 weeks and wait for a patch or two before I start a serious play-through. I think it will be a good game over all and I have no idea why there is so much hate around. People really need to calm themselves down. If video games leave you this angry, stop playing them and get another hobby.

I’ve never had such an intense urge to close and uninstall a game than when I witnessed my Qunari pc suddenly flip and twirl about causing me to fall off a mountainside.

The levelling system is shallow and the whole RPG aspect of the game is completely dumbed-down to its most basic form. The UI is annoyingly large and completely disregards PC controls. The companions have no redeeming features and the poor animations in this game works against their hideous design – I have no idea what their designers where thinking. The big problem was a small world with too many re-used environments. Well, that's been blown out of the water with one of the biggest worlds ever, filled with tons of stuff to do.

A big complaint I've heard about Inquisition has been ultra demanding graphics on computers. At first I did not realize my computer( Alienware M14x, 8G RAM, 2.4ghrtz, i7) couldn't run the game well on ultra or high settings. But once I turned things down to medium it ran beautifully with virtually zero lag and the game still looks amazing.

There are a lot of aspects of the game that remind me of Mass Effect 3 oddly enough. Planning operations on a large scale in the war room is awesome and you get to interact with characters and regions previously visited in DA1 and 2. Even better is the chance to explore new places you've heard about in other games like Orlais.

The interactions with other characters in your party is fantastic. The decisions made during quests have a serious impact on what they think of you. The advisers are a great addition and bringing back the option of multiple playable races for the player is nice.

The game is not perfect with minor problems like limited key bindings, camera issues, party AI, and some graphical bugs. But overall this game is a masterpiece. The good faaaar outweighs the bad. Excellent job from Bioware.

For example, the digital direction buttons are not used in menus even though the analog stick is crap for menus, the map is under a sub-menu, switching between characters is done with the up/down buttons rather than the standard RB/LB buttons.

The world is very open that's for sure. The problem with an open world is that you need to fill it with something. Inquisition seems to fill the open world with meaningless re-spawning enemies and empty space. Most quests involve running long distances to collect X things. The crafting and potion systems involves collecting huge amounts of re-spawning craft items. It is frustrating to deal with these time syncs in a single-player game. Likening this to an MMORPG is appropriate but even MMOs have the decency to give you mounts to speed travel.

There is plenty to do though, but it all feels pretty pointless. Similar to Mass Effect 3, you need to do things to improve the power of your forces. You collect power by helping people or convince them to join you. It all gets condensed into a single power score. Rather than have that apothecary you helped make sleeping potions to knock sentries out, you spend power to get through the situation. It all seems designed to give the appearance of many choices and options when they aren't actually there. If you put your blinders up and just get into the experience, it isn't so bad. After-all it worked for the Walking Dead games.

The story does have some potential. The starting hook was pretty good but they skipped the prologue entirely. That is an important part of an RPG; it establishes why the player should care about the protagonist. The story after the initial hook is not all bad but it doesn't hold up to the earlier games.

I don't understand the 10 scores and I don't understand the 0 scores. It's not game of the year material and it's not the worst thing I've played. It's just disappointing when compared to Origins. I will keep playing because I want to see how it ends but I wouldn't recommend people rush out to pay full price for this one. If you are invested in seeing the next part of the DA story, pick it up on sale and play it with a controller.

I don't get what everyone is complaining about. Sure, the game has issues but it's one of the best RPG i've played in the past 3 years. So far (15 hours in) the story is great and i've enjoyed the quests in the zones (mainly hinterlands), doesn't matter if it's pick this up or kill this. Great game, it's a solid 8/10.

I've been on Youtube and watched peoples tips on how to make the most of the tactical camera. It's not quite as crap as it first appears and that kept me in the game a little longer... but it's still pretty terrible and ultimately I got incredibly frustrated with it. The only real way to play the game is in hack'n'slash mode, and I'm just not into that kind of thing. As you encounter various parts of the game, you can kind of almost hear the executives at Bioware discussing them in a meeting. "I'm sorry Paul but all these attribute stats are going to put off our console gamers, we'd better *streamline* that bit." Well guess what, you've just turned off 75% of your PC audience. Many of us like all that nerdy stuff and we don't really want to play a Tomb Raider action/adventure clone that's set on Fereldan.

I note there's a lot of people on here saying that it's too soon to slam the game with a negative review. Well when would be a good time? If you've just paid £40 (plus the cost of a new graphics card) to play the damn thing, and you've had to give up on day two because you're bored to tears and you can't take it any more what else can you say except that it's crap and that other people shouldn't buy it? Professional reviews are all about judging each part of the game in turn and giving a balanced opinion on whether you think the average person will enjoy it. User reviews are simply (and often more helpful) they just answer the question "Did I enjoy it?" and if enough people say "No!" then that's quite an interesting statistic. Personally, I'm extremely suspicious about the professional reviews for this game. So many of them seemed to parrot the official EA line about it being "Back to it's root" that when most users discover that it so transparently isn't, one has to question if there's a significant degree of corruption going on.

I suppose I shouldn't finish this review without saying at least some of what I found positive. The graphics and the world are probably the prettiest I've ever seen. They're incredibly varied, and I feel so sad for all those hard working artists and programmers who'd done a fantastic job but ultimately have ended up with their game getting panned because the execs wanted to push for a mass market lowest common denominator style of game.

This game is not an RPG. It's a kind a Hack and Slash with a plot and some romances. Forgot DA:O. Forgot to use Mouse and Keyboard. Awful.
The visual tactic mode is a joke, u cannot select all your party, ad so on....

The issue of the repeated clicking needed to fight, for starters why is this such an issue? Most games require almost constant clicking during combat why is it a crime for it to exist here? Also I seem to remember in the intro section it tells you to click and hold for continuous attacking, so that's already solved that issue.
Secondly people saying it doesn't work on their computer, either your computer isn't good enough and you should have looked before you bought or is a simple error that can normally be fixed by doing this magic called re installing. Also giving a game a bad review because it doesn't work on your rig is ridiculous, you haven't played the game yet to review, so you're just throwing a tantrum. Yes it might be frustrating, I've had many game I couldn't play when I wanted to that are still amazing games so don't harm the name just because you want to have it all your way, problems occur, its a game not a divine artifact of perfection.
Finally to those saying its unplayable on their graphics cards, if your motherboard is pants then the graphics card make no difference, I have a GTX 770, not the best but not the worst, I've seen people on here with better cards complain it wont run on medium, which is interesting and I've got mine at a custom of the two highest setting and I'm getting 50 FPS. Either these people are lying, misinformed about their own cards, need a better motherboard or simply have messed the computers up and need repairs in one form or another.
As to the Actual review of the game, it's stunning, I had to show my mother, who never played games because they never looked real, and she was amazed by it, I was amazed by it ( I do not live with my mother, don't look at me like that). This is the kind of game that I'd be proud of making for the looks alone, there are places that look almost real and it's amazing to look at.
Gameplay is great, I love the choice of combat systems, being able to switch things up at any time, if you've got a strategy then by all mean you can get it down to the letter and if you're in the mood you can run at the opponent swinging at them like a mad man. I like the new informal conversation wheel, before everything felt intense, talking about nugs was an intense experience with the cameras so close ( didn't notice at the time) but now the camera lets you move your view if you're sick of someones face or you just wanna gaze lovingly into your own eyes if you want to. The conversations themselves are interesting, especially with the people you meet being fountains of knowledge mostly. I've not spoken to anyone and thought that they were a waste of time.
As I've said before the game runs really smoothly and I've yet to encounter an issue, that's not to say there wont be issues for everyone, it's a game and every game has issues for some people.
I'd advise you play it, it's a great game that I have yet to personally see a flaw in. Could it be love, maybe but that's not important, buy the game if you want a good time and if you see this a few years down the line, defiantly buy the game because it'll be a bargain now.

    1. Not being DAO enough
What does this even mean? Dragon Age Origins is terrible by today’s graphic standards. The combat was atrocious, the skill trees in DAI are no more limiting than they were in DAO (you could in theory make Alistair, Sten, The Warden, Loghain, Ogrhen, and Zevran all use the exact same skills if you wanted). Is the writing on par with some of the finest literature the world over, no. It certainly is at least equal to if it doesn’t surpass the writing in DAO though. Besides you only had like 2.5 dragons in DAO and a zillion of those annoying little dragonlings in this one I’ve already seen four dragons (I most ignobly ran from three but I make no apologies for that).

    2. Alleged crashes
I’m not sure what to tell you here, I haven’t had this problem once. The worst I’ve had is a bit of audio stuttering and slight visual clipping, which break the immersion I grant you. However, let me remind you, YOU’RE ENGAGING IN ESCAPISM AND PLAYING A VIDEO GAME! If you want total immersion in a fantasy world of swords and such go to a Renaissance Faire and lap it up, you probably won’t see any darkspawn or dragons but at least there won’t be problems with immersion.

    3. “Clunky controls”
Should you have to lay out $60 or so for a controller just to play a game, probably not. Ideally a game should transition to all platforms without any issues. But think about it for half a second, at least we’re at a point in time where games can make a successful transition to all platforms, you may recall there was a time when you couldn’t get Uncharted on anything but PS. Now things in the industry are and have changed. If you already laid out somewhere in the high three figures and low four figures for an awesome rig…lay out the $60 and make your life so much easier while you enjoy even just the first 20 hours…after you get out of the damn Hinterlands of course.

    4. Open World/MMORPG-ness
Why is this an issue? If you don’t want to do some of the fetch/collection quests don’t do them. It’s really not an issue; the climax of the first act has NOTHING to do with whether or not you led the farmer’s druffalo back to the pasture or not. I didn’t by the way. Are you saying you’d prefer the claustrophobic environs we had in ME, ME2, DAO, DA2?

    5. Tactical controls
I’ll give you that one. The camera is a bit off and the execution of the strategic aspect of the game (i.e. behavior/commands) isn’t the best. However, you’re not playing Europa Universalis IV or Company of Heroes. You really have to keep in mind how ridiculously absurd it sounds to demand both visceral RPG combat and the ability to have a deity’s view/control of the battlefield in addition to all the other items on your list of demands for a game.

    6. Character creator
Yes, critics of it are absolutely correct. It’s terrible, but so was Skyrim’s. It’s also a lot better than what you had to work with in DAO or DAII, so again it’s really not a big issue since Bioware hasn’t regressed on that front.

The game itself is just gorgeous and expansive. I feel as if it is somewhat of a 3rd person Skyrim.
There is tons to do and the story is spread out across this massive place that is just filled with life and atmosphere.
I for one am very pleased they ditched all the clunky stuff from the previous titles. I actually feel like I am playing the characters and I am not caged into the small KOTOR 1-2 sized worlds. I do think the party options for ai should be expanded on a little but so far the game has been bug free for me.

The controls are standard fare for most ARPG/Shooter/mmo fans with a few extra keys.
The characters are awesome and I love the cassandra chick you meet, she is voiced very well IMO.
Character customization is better than it has ever been for any DA game, I felt there were a lot of options and you could make an attractive character unlike the others. I also like that this time our pc has a voice and is not the Silent Bob in the room. Worth a go for any lover of open world games especially in the RPG genre.

I LOVE DA:I. I think it's a great RPG, and I am ashamed of the internet for it's reviews. Computer games always get mixed reviews but all these 0's for complaints that should be a) ignored, or b) held until their issues are resolved, or c) measured in a different manner.

A lot of these 0s are realistically 5s-7s. I'm continually finding metacritic to just be a cesspool of hate, worse than any forum. I actually want it to go away because some game companies measure bonuses off of user reviews. People have been fired from them. I've taken a look at multiple people's reviews here, and they all seem to be 10's or 0s. Where are the honest reviews?

This game is getting a ten from me for three reasons. A) I've really enjoyed it, and it has been worth the amount of time I've put in it. B) I personally have enjoyed the story. (Everyone has claimed its underwhelming, and I don't know what people are talking about, it's pretty standard fare... but we realistically get **** stories every game, and I particularly enjoy those that really step forward but I don't down vote those that are enjoyable) and C) I've thought the graphics, content and gameplay to be entertaining.

I think people should have to register their game code to post reviews, because quite frankly I'm not convinced half of these 0's have played the same game as me. Or they just can't understand/read english.

To me this game is comparable to skyrim, but is less repetitive with more of a story, the dragon battles in this game compared to that are INCREDIBLE. This is NOT Skyrim's massive open world, but it is far more open world than ANY of the Dragon Age's prior to it.

This is a solid step up for Dragon age and I'm excited to see the next one.

**** All you 0's for nonsense reviews. The fact that there are only 75 mixed reviews is a shame.... This site is so polarizing.

With that in mind, I am creating this account and writing this review because I was surprised at the negative reviews that Dragon Age: Inquisition has gathered. There are flaws with the game: tactical camera does not zoom out enough, the controls for left/right pan and rotate in tactical mode are against standard convention of TBS games. The ease with which PC players are able to interact with the environment (loot) is also quite adversely affected due to "space" now being binded to jumping instead of general interaction. The vast areas can seem filled with clutter and lack of story. There were several clipping issues in one of my final levels that forced me to load from an earlier save.

But yet, the game draws me back. For every irritant and disappointment, there comes an immersion of wonder in this world that Bioware has built. There is a reason behind the existence of their dungeons, be it a haunted mansion or a mine whose owners were evicted by spiders. This is an open world game that has undercurrents of what made Bioware great: storytelling. Sometimes it is too subtle or buried behind a series of plot triggers, but that depth also delivers a sense of exploration. This game has revisited what it means to be a Role-Playing Game and while it's answer is not perfect, it comes strikingly close to what a modern rpg should be: immersive, player-driven and filled with characters that connect with us and are relevant to the context of the times it is made in.

Now comes the interesting bit: the reviews for this game are polarised and so the reader should be informed of some possible reasons for it:
    1) Performance: Apparently there are problems with DA:I when running with Nvidia graphics cards. Devs have stated that they are working on a fix for it.
    2) Interface: As I stated earlier, the interface and key bindings are not ideal. It took me quite a while to get used to it/remap it to my liking.
    3) DRM: The Denuvo DRM that DA:I uses has yet to be cracked and that may generate negative feedback from online users (such as spreading rumours that it creates adverse performance or through negative reviews)

With respect to the points above, take the current reviews with a pinch of salt. This game is worth the initial confusion; bear with it, pull through and you will watch a world spring to life. (unless you are running on Nvidia then you might want to wait for a patch first)

I'm quite sure the ones scoring this game 10/10 is probably console players. This game was made for consoles first, then ported to PC. The quest tracking system and the map is horrendous. You can't make a game like this for consoles, then copy it directly to PCs without altering the UI. I know this is a new trend by now, but I would say that PC gamers has more or less been left behind here. We are forced to endure these horrible console-like controls (Hold Mouse 1 to autoattack? Comon man). They've had so much time to develop this game, surely they should be able to somewhat create a proper UI and proper controls for PC. Also, this new trend with locking FPS at 30 or 60 is just complete **** I

The story is alright, but not impressive. DA: O is still, by far, one of the best RPGs of our time, and DA:I pales in this comparison. However, It's still interesting enough that I will score this game 5/10 since the storyline is keeping it up.

Also another thing: This game is riddled with small glitches and bugs. I can't help but think that EA might have rushed bioware to release this title. I'm using the latest drivers for my system (also installed the latest beta driver from AMD for my grahics card, which have some optimizations for DA:I) but still, there's a lot, and I mean a lot of work to be done in this regard. Stuttering, micro-lag, FPS issues you name it. It's normal for a game to have issues in the beginning, but EA keeps making the same mistakes of rushing games to be released, instead of waiting so the game can receive better quality testing.

Because of this game, I look even more forward to the Witcher 3. You have to respect companies like CD Projekt, whom creates games solely for PC with amazing graphics, and then subsequently creates a potato-version of that game, so the consoles can run it as well. It shouldn't be the other way around. I'm tired of playing potato-like games on my superior gaming rig. :(

    the Good.

Huge world that feels like its actualy living instead of filled with things.

    Great story

    great companions especially Iron Bull

Most of the choices and made me think how they would effect me and the world.

Animations are great especially for mages.

Knight enchanter while super powerful is very fun to play.

There were almost no doors that couldn't be opened and many houses were just there with no pick ups in them and fully furnished to look like they belonged in the world. its a detail that most games ignore.

    Suggestions

    1. Ai is garbage on ranged companions, they stand in Aoes and run into melee very often. for normal encounters it doesn't matter too much but for fights with stuff like dragons it gets them killed .

    2. it is very easy to out level areas entirely so i end up skipping entire regions. changing it so if you out level an area it automatically brings things to your lvl would be helpful.

    3. last boss was super easy mainly because of my level. i think the last boss should always be a certain level above yours.

    4. Tactical mode and pc controls are kinda bad. there's enough on them in these forums so i wont repeat.

    5. After finishing the game skyhold gets really buggy. characters and objects not loading in and it wont allow me to judge anyone.

    6. an actual tactics menu like in origins would be cool.

    7. some crashes but hey i give Bethesda games free passes on this.

as the game stands i would give it a 8/10. if controls, Ai and tactical menu are fixed easily a 9/10

Large immersive game, lags badly in the beginning before you really open up the world and characters. I suggest moving out of the prologue area hinterlands at speed, then coming back when and as you like.

Some of the main characters are genuinely moving in their motivations, a few feel flat but most are worth spending time getting know. Choices from the other games do make an impact but not as much as I would have liked given how much time we spent on those other games.

Story - has a few twists but I wouldn't call it mindblowing, it's not bad though. It has a slow start however, and could have used some more early game momentum. Old characters make a return but not as many as you might like, some come in later as the game progresses.

Open world means you must set the pace yourself. That means you pick and choose what to do when and where. Upgrading for your base of operations, customization for it through collectibles and development projects; several degrees of equipment customization but these don't open up fully until later levels when you get decent materials, and runes; companion quests, with a hardening like mechanic; romantic story arcs; conflicts to deal with and resolve in your own camp and outside of it; impressively again certain characters get tied into story events, and then it's up to you to navigate them and the plot through it.

There's a lot to do, don't get stuck in one part of it too long. Vary what you are doing and you might well enjoy it more, fast travel and mounts makes it easy to resume pretty much exactly where you were, in fact it makes it too easy with respawning health potions.

Healing. OMG I can't heal??? Wrong.

Eventually some characters have advanced skills with healing abilities for themselves and one for others. Lifedrain abilities, heal on kill/damage, and heal boosts as well as others I won't spoil to help you heal. You have two abilities called barrier and guard which act as temporary health, barrier when coupled with specialization and normal upgrades from the skill trees can be fairly tough on normal. Guard is overpowered imho, especially when using guard boosting abilities and a shield.

    Negatives

Tactical camera - Gets stuck on terrain/roof, doesn't give you a tactical view of the battle. If a camera fails to give you a tactical view as I can’t zoom out and often simply can’t move it into place, it’s not working right.

Controls - On the PC feel a bit sluggish. I am used to it, but the first couple of hours, and occasionally afterwards like when you are riding your horse and because it is sluggish you fall off a small cliff.

Bugs - This game has several bugs that need patching. Are any gamebreaking? Probably but none that i've encountered, but save often. Odd things like people falling out of the sky or into chairs, small camps of enemies just disappearing on a whim. It's noticeable that it needed more quality testing on the PC port before release.

Rogues in Melee, I am sure it is possible to use a rogue melee companion well, however for the average player, even with all his evades, he is as survivable as a piece of cardboard in a fire. He has no guard, no barrier (unless you can keep him close to a mage, which is dangerous for the mage melee range) and no self heals, unless you give him minor abilities from items. Conclusion - stick with ranged rogues, any rogue companion can be specialised for range combat.

Minor mention - graphical textures for medium quality character meshes are absolutely terrible. The hair looks like glue, turn mesh quality to high immediately. The world looks okay graphically on medium, the trees needed more work.

Looting – I have a love hate relationship with spamming the same key, over and over and over.

    Notes:
Combat – Average for my mage. It's simplistic in the beginning and then more fun when you work with the skill system to set up combination attacks, like freeze/shatter to boost your close combat mage's barrier and focus.

Skills can be changed around for a small cost, welcomingly companions start with all their points to allocate.

UI – is passable. It’s icons were too small for me, and each part felt segregated from the others.

Quests – The variety of quests is bigger than I could list here. Fetch, Kill, Quest, Alter the landscape, if you are not enjoying something skip it.

    Conclusion
I buy RPG’s for the characters, immersion and story, so I am rating this an 8. It does these things well, once you get out of the hinterlands! The controls, glitches, poor early pacing, lacklustre early combat, and UI to an extent make me want to give this a 7 but I am enjoying myself enough with feeling like an inquisitor, with plenty to do at 60 hours in still! I have got more than my monies worth already and I’m only halfway through, so it just squeezed in an 8 from me, just the sheer volume of content.

the table I hated Dragon Age 2 and I loved Dragon Age Origins, in fact I loved Dragon Age Origins
so much I completed nine playthroughs and can confidently say I liked it more than Mass Effect 1
and 2. Dragon Age Origins was a brilliant game. The story was well crafted and it was the best 3d
animated and voice acted dungeons and dragons game. It's combat system was based on an isometric
camera, dice rolls, armor rating, weapon acceleration math, D&D attributes like constitution,
dexterity ex.. The dialogue system was an array of choices reflecting D&D morals and ethics
system, chaotic, base, lawful, evil, neutral, good. It was a great game and I understand why people
    loved it.

Dragon Age 2 however took the series in another direction. It attempted to be an
action adventure game with flashy combat and a simplified streamlined interface to appeal
to new and younger players. All fine and good I don't mind action adventure games after all I
love the Witcher games which are definitely not isometric tactical RTWP CRPG games. Having said
that Dragon Age 2 bothered me not because the change of direction but rather because the game was
just plain bad. I can go into great detail why it was a mediocre poor experience but it has been
    said ad-nauseam.

Ok now that that is done with and my biases are revealed lets get into the actual review for
Dragon Age Inquisition. First off Dragon Age Inquisition is not like Origins in terms of combat,
so if you only disliked Dragon Age 2 because of the combat then you will be disappointed.
While Dragon Age Inquisition doesn't have that tactical combat we Origin fans come to love
it still has an improved action combat system over Dragon Age 2. While the action based combat
isn't bad the tactical camera is a complete joke. It is very problematic for several reasons.
Of course I will go over them so people know what I mean, after all this is a review right?

The tactical camera mode is a broken system. It suffers from so many optimization issues.
The reasoning is rather transparent, it is obviously because it was added after the action combat
system was made and it was an after thought. The first and most important glaring issue is
that the camera has collision with ceilings and elevated floors. What does that mean you ask?
Well it means that when you move the tactical camera from point A to B and point A is on the ground
floor and point B is on a higher level, you have to move the camera up the stairs or up a ramp. You
get the point, the camera cannot climb walls, hills, ect... this is a pain I cannot tell you how
many times I had to move my camera around obstacles just to reach my target. As for ceiling
collision.... well imagine going into a room with a low ceiling and trying to use the tactical
camera. This results in a really low camera and thus a useless camera.
The next issue is that WASD doesn't move the camera, only WS moves forward and back but A and
D rotate the camera.... Yeah talk about clunky controls. Trees and high objects cut off your
view and characters are very slow to respond with tactical commands. Sometimes they so not
respond at all. Pretty much the tactical camera is awful and almost unusable.

Man, after all that you must think that I hate this game and how can I possibly rate Dragon
Age Inquisition 8/10, assuming you made it through the mountain of text to get to this point.
Now that we established that the tactical combat is a mess I must confess that just about
every other issue with Dragon Age 2 was addressed. The story is big, the stakes are huge,
there are plot twists and turns and there is so much content it is mind blowing. When I reached
about 1/3 into the game I thought it was over, I was disappointed, but then I realized the
game had only really just begun. The graphics are superb, the textures scale well, and the
particle effects are lovely. The RPG elements are great, there is so much to do.... too much
actually. Nobody with a life will be able to do every quest. Even though there is a lot of filler quests there is also a lot of non filler story quests like companion quests, region quests and main story quest. Choices seem to matter and you make a couple of pretty huge choices so this game is definitely less linear than most Bioware games. The companions are way better than Dragon Age 2 trust me. The Iron Bull, Varric, Blackwall and Cassandre are all excellent characters in my opinion. There are also some pretty lengthy and impressive cameos and Dragon Age Origins story related conclusions, I will not ruin this as I want this to be spoiler free. As for performance I had some frame drops but mostly stable 60 fps with some settings dialed down.

I loved Origins - I liked *some* parts of 2. (not a lot - the combat was ridiculously simple & I'm a very casual gamer. I did not like the 'Hawke' idea, because it felt like playing someone else's story/character, but the actual character of Hawke was agreeable enough, if weirdly passive & lacking in any heroism/heroic journey.)

Inquisition may get better, but I doubt very much I'll play long enough to find out.

First, I hate the combat. I really despise it. It's awkward, slow, unsatisfying and feels badly conceived. (mage was best - I tried all but 2h warrior) Character creation is ok - the hair is horrible, however. (hair matters!)

However, while the combat would put me off, it's the story that really shocked me. Unlike the brilliant start of Origins, & the at least initially involving story of 2, I do not care in any way about Inquisition. It makes little sense - in the space of a few minutes (if that) you are moved from 'everyone hates you' to 'exalted one!' For no good reason, other than some people saw a glowing woman and decided she's Andraste. They'd seen her before, too, but you vaguely touching green stuff changed their mind. For some reason.

It has to get better, but I don't feel compelled to find out. My character is bland. Almost nothing. Whether elf or Qunari - just - eh. (and their voices are all the same between races, so - eh. That's ok, but certainly isn't impressive..) You get drawn into the 'Inquisition' - again, for some reason, with no real input of your own.

Truly, most off-putting is your first companion, Cassandra. I absolutely loathed her - and I say this as a feminist type myself. She seems to be yelling at you constantly, she's abusive, she's sneering, she's obnoxious. I've heard people say you have to read the comments, & the only response to that is, "No." If I wanted to spend hours with an angry companion, I could - I don't know - hang out in the subway! Or DMV.

The name, too, remains questionable. Joining & recruiting into something called 'The Inquisition' could be comic, but doesn't exactly inspire confidence. If I can't scream, "NOBODY EXPECTS...!" then it doesn't work. Neither does Cassandra's incessant 'Most Holy' comments. She comes off as an angry fanatic, & I don't care if her back story involves sad puppies. It's obnoxious, & reason to avoid.

Maybe the action is better on consoles - but I don't enjoy console games. Either way, the characters & story really lack whatever it takes to gain interest & keep it, & get me, at least, to play again.

Few hints on folks complaining here: Use F key to interact, not mouse. That will make picking up loot easier. You can respec any of your characters in the game in blacksmith location. Continue on the main quest until you discover and finish the Val Royeaux city in Orlais region, and quickly visit Storms coast to recruit majority of the followers. If your frame rate is lower than 30 on high (on PC) upgrade your card, do not complain. There is a frame rate test in the extras section of the game, use it.

    Pros:
    * Great graphics (on PC ultra) and exotic settings
    * Incredible feeling of exploration
    * Strong characters, and story line. You feel like you are adventuring with friends.
    * Long, long, long, but not boring, engaging.
    * Crafting

    Cons:
    * Frame rate drops to below 30 on strong graphic cards on PC
    * tactical view movement is not that great. (but still useful, unlike folks complaining here)
    * Inventory management
    * Using V key to maintain constant sonar

If I wanted an MMO-RPG experience I would've logged on wow and played with my real friends instead of the three imaginary ones in this game.

What more confusing to me is how they could've come up with this combat system after what they've done in DA.Origin, from an amazing complex and strategic system to this spam mouse clicks and occasionally press 1 2 3. I simply do not understand.

Oh Bioware, you don't know how hard I try to love and appreciate this game but there is just so little to appreciate. Even DA2 was able to compel me to finish the game and still find it interesting. And this... I do not know what this is... All I know is every 5 minutes I need to motivate myself to continue playing, I had to play a movie on another screen to not get bored out of my mind... Right now all I feel is the regret that my purchase might've assisted Bioware's corruption further.

They should just go back to releasing DLCs for DA.O...

Again I just do not understand what happened? I just don't...

Inquisition still draws many of the ideas used in origins to make the game fun. You can still pause and issue commands to your team. the main downside is the lack of auto attack but after an hour or so I got use to it. Its really not as bad as some say. The AI isn't as dumb as other people say either. Commands are issued and carried out quickly and efficiently. The "tactical screen" is a neat idea but was very, very poorly implemented. if you are in a close quarters area, forget you even have the option because the camera will shoot up your characters butt instantly providing no view. The lack of the ability to loot from a distance is a little irritating to its also something that you will get over. Combat is flashy and fast paced. It feels awesome like a mixture of origins, DA:2 and ESO blended into something better. The enemies are varied and challenging. The world is open in the same style as ESO with large sectioned areas to explore at your own pace. The areas are huge and packed with side quests and enemies to hunt.

    Controls
If you have ever played SWTOR, you wont have any issues with the controls on mouse and keyboard. You click and hold to move the camera around and the have to use wasd to move your character. No more clicking to move locations. For me this was a fine change because I am not a fan of clicking to move anyways. The biggest issue with controls is the lack of custom key bindings. If you love your 18 button mouse you are going to hate the controls. You cant change a single key. Everything else is standard for mouse and keyboard.

    Graphics
There is a definite improvement in the graphics this time around for the series. I turned up all settings to ultra and was actually surprised to see such good visuals. The landscape is lush and beautiful. I have not experienced any major chopping or frame drops yet which i was expecting from all the other reviews. My issue here is the facial movements during conversations. The lips move and the eyes blink but the cheeks and skin and plastered in solid but good quality textures Also occasionally the person talking may tilt there head down to look unconvincingly at the other character which will makes the tilted persons eyes pupils disappear in this awful demon look. Overall, it looks good.

    Story
The story is one of the things I think should be criticized the most. Bioware got rid of the saved game uploads which pissed me right off because I played DA:O and DA:2 again right before inquisition came out. Now you have to remake all the important decisions you already made but this time through pop up flash cards. Its a painful process which took about half an hour before i could even start Inquisition. Finally i was ready to play. The game doesn't follow up on DA:2 how I'd hoped it would. The events of 2 are more of side quest to the main events of stopping the rifts. many decisions made in previous games hold little to no impact now. The good news is there is so much going on in terms of side quests that i never feel lacking story in one way or another.

    Characters
Inquisition is severely lacking the in depth character development from origins. I can feel the cause of the characters but I don't feel the connection i use to. I do however still enjoy the bantering your party does back and forth and now even to the main character. Customization in this game is amazing. i was able to create my bad ass, military haircutted, unshaven mage monster easily. There are many options to create your seeker.

Overall I would recommend that players of the original games try this one out! As along as you don't expect a copy cat of origins you will be pleased with it. Fun, flashy, fast paced combat and awesome graphics accompany an ok story line and shabby character depth to create a fun experience. The world is filled with things to do and enemies to kill. I am giving this game a 9 and a thumbs up to bioware(I was surprised to).

The story line seems ok so far i would give it around 7/10. The dialogue between you and the npc's is done very well and would rate that 9/10. The camera angles can be a tad buggy and odd at times which can hurt during a fight especially if your controlling a melee character, i will give that 6/10 hopefully a patch will come out that will allow you to zoom out a bit more.

The being able to control all 4 party members and switch thru them is a huge learning curve but becomes way more enjoyable the more i play it. The fight mechanics seems solid, i am playing on normal difficulty which is a little to easy but works for trying to learn the game. The gathering of resources hasn't been to tedious and is almost a instant grab unlike with skyrim the pickaxe came out to mine. The sonar system really comes in handy to make sure there isn't any loot or herbs or other misc items that may be hidden. You can set up your own way-points and fast travel which is very convenient and saves time. The journal and quest log is nice not great but you know what you have to do and highlights where nicely enough for you. The beginning area feels a little closed in, however im sure that is because its more of a training area. Once you venture out to other areas it really opens up and you can almost do what you want. Interaction with objects is not great would like to be able to move more stuff or break stuff but it doesn't take away from the game as much as you would think.

When you switch to tactical mode it pauses the game which is handy to plan out your fight, however i end up just playing in 3rd person view most of the time and don't use the tactical mode often. There is no first person view as well but that's ok with me. Overall i have played around 8 hours so far and am very entertained and I have not even completed 10% of the game.

I think many of these negative reviews have been put on here way to quickly, if i was to give a review the first couple hours of this game i probably would have given it a 5/10, because honestly its hard to get used to the game-play and camera control however now i am at the point to where i am really enjoying the game and its mechanics and really think this game should be around a 9/10. Great game to play during the holidays.

Just finished my review of Dragon Age Origins, Dragon Age 2, and this... well, I must say that all people who gave high rating to this are WRONG simply because of the title: "Dragon Age" (i.e. it need the same gameplay but technologically improved and this is more close to DA2, another "not Dragon Age" game).
Resuming: is hard to play with mouse-keyboard, the isometric view is too close and confusing (seem thought as: "we have accomplished to put the feature but use by your own"), graphics are good to consoles but in PC I expect a bit more, and listen: Combat is Action! Yes, Bioware well done again! I must say that I have no issues with action games, I like Elder Scrolls, Witcher, Lords of the Fallen, etc, but as if there weren't enough ARPGs in the world Bioware wanted to be part of them. Bioware! One of the few studios that become famous with "Canonic-RPGs", they looks desperate to lose their identity, shame of you Bioware...
The rest of the game is not so bad because unlike DA2 and Diablo 3, if you approach with no expectations maybe you would enjoy it as a casual "Hack'n Slash with RPG folklore", but still having serious flaws: combat is not RPG (like Origins), but neither completely ARPG (like Skyrim), so is a confusing mixture without soul. There are so few dialogue options a la Mass Effect, giving the sensation of being talking with robots. And romance options are insipid, there is only one "desirable" male straight option and you will not want to take it, (nothing compared with Morrigan, Elanee, Viconia...), and, if all of this were not enough, gay options seem forced (you know what I mean).
The worse is the lack of a toolkit to make deep modding, so all mods will be by reverse engineering (i.e. like Dragon Age 2, nothing like Dragon Age Origins), shame of Bioware to forget your bests fans...
Well... is another generic "Action Adventure with RPG folklore", if you liked ARPGs like B0und by Flame you may enjoy it, with common graphics, common dialogue options, a big generic world to explore, and, of course, there will be common mods (like environment, nudity, hairstyles, etc, nothing compared to Origins or NWN).
Now, if you are seeking a true RPG, reinstall Origins or, better, be amazed by the new independent RPGs like Divinity: Original Sin, Pillars of Eternity, Wasteland 2 or Torment: Tides of Numenera, with no billionaires marketing campaign, nor cinematic of course, but you will have true RPGs that will enlighten your imagination as open books, trust me.
Well, if the game is "digestible", why the low rating you may ask? Because its name: "Dragon Age"...

Despite numerous shortcomings, the new BioWare project is undoubtedly worth your attention. One of the best RPGs of 2014.
