Well, you just never know what you're going to get when it comes to a Dragon Age game. Of the three iterations, this one seems to have even less in common with the one we all love DAO. then did it's predecessor DA II. In fact one might never even know that this is a Dragon Age game except for basic universes in which it is set. Speaking of said universe, if one knew nothing of the Dragon Age world, it's history, lore and recent events, one would not have a clue what was going on in this game. You literally would have to read every single codex and then you would still be lost. I've read all the books and played the games so I'm comfortable but you oh noobie would not be. A person should be able to pick up the game and be able to understand the universe and what is going on. This brings up my second point. There is no back story for your character. I've played 20 hrs. I don't know who this person is or why I should care. It's the hated, I workup and don't know what happened bull****. I freakin' hate that cop out. I know more about the side characters than I do my own character. This is a real mistake as far as drawing in player commitment. DAI is disconnected from the player in a way I've never experienced. Other cons: tactical camera is a joke, it's not even close to a tactical camera. What a mess. No auto attack or target. Useless "tactics" so bad that they called them "behaviors" which is nothing more than potion management. For all intents and purposes combat is fubared. The worst combat of the trilogy, hands down. This game just doesn't know what it wants to be, so a s result it's not much of anything. I'm about 20 hours in and I will take it to the end. It's not all bad, I'm still curious what will happen, but it's not what we all hoped it would be. There IS no Dragon Age folks. That epic dream that held so much promise is dead and gone, killed by arrogant developers that think they know better than us what we need for fun. So sad, so very sad. There are other problems with the game, graphics, crafting etc. but these have been covered. If you're a hardcore fan, get it when the price drops and decide for yourself.
EDIT: I have had to come in and actually lower the score. I am dumbfounded at what they did with Dragon Age. Dumbfounded. The entire game is basically filler to mindlessly go from place to place and engage in combat. The entire main story is so thin that it likely be completed in around an hour. It reminds me a lot of LOA but with far inferior combat. LOA had great combat and that's all it had. There is so much lore to work with! Where is the Architect? What about the Old God that Morrigan had? Do they give us anything? No. They bring in a whole new antagonist, which we never get to know anything about, a whole new and thin, boring story line. There is no context for any of this! It's like it's not even a Dragon Age game! I don't know what this is but I'm so disappointed I literally feel sick to my stomach. If you want to spend hours doing a whole lot of meaningless quests with boring combat simply to get to the end of possibly one of the laziest story lines in gaming history, be my guest. Forget all the fascinating lore, the great writing and witty personalities that was the promise of Dragon Age. Forget epic adventures, forget caring about your hero and his/her companions, forget evolution in combat, forget depth, forget EVERY THING that is Dragon Age. This isn't it. This is a cheap imitation with the Dragon Age name slapped on it's cover. What a crock.

In a general sense, and as has been noted more than once before already, controls are a mess. There is a tactical view. I know this because the game forced me into it early on, in the tutorial phase. I then struggled to get back to the appropriate zoom level so that I could see the battle. Yes, I kid you not. In tactical view, I was unable to actually see what was going on. From there on out I played it from the 3rd person perspective as in Dragon Age 2. I can live with this.
Secondly, upon coming out of the Chantry in Redcliffe, the game autosaved and then crashed to desktop. No error message. Nothing. Empty desktop. This stands out because it hasn't happened to me with a *fully retail* game in a long time. Reloading the save crashed the game a second time. Reloading an earlier save - thank heavens for quick saves - solved the issue. So if you don't have an earlier save around, you lose a lot of progress at this point. That is not acceptable.
This isn't yet where I stopped playing.
In the dungeons of the Redcliffe castle, I hit a point where you're on linear progression and there is only one way to proceed. I actually prefer linear progression so that's not the issue. The problem I did have is that you have to open a gate. You do this by turning the wheel right next to it. Except...I can click that wheel till my finger falls off, the gate does nothing. Reload? Nope. Reload earlier than that room? Nope.
So now I'm at this point where the next nearest save has me doing over 45 minutes of gameplay.
    I refuse.
Because I know this is hardly going to be the last crash, bug or other game-halting display I encounter.
This might have been a good game. Right now it's an unstable beta.

Corypheus is not worth enough to be a world class boss.
And your paying DAI is like playing a beta-play-test version of badly made TES5.
Finished one campaign in 60 hours and don't want another at all.
Keep doing so, Bioware, and I will be so done with your games.

The UI could be better for PC players as it has limited space for ability placement, but it has many improvements over the DA2 one. The return of the Tactical Camera and it's related elements is a huge improvement over DA2 however. The expansive Skyrim-like feel of the zones like The Hinterlands is also a great improvement over DA2. The only problem with this and the graphics is that if you have a older system, you'll have some issues with the FPS and related elements unless your on lowest settings.

Some people seem not to enjoy the interface - honestly, it does not bother me. At most there are some minor inconveniences, but I never played RPGs based on the interface system anyway. I do see that some changes have been made due to the consoles. But you have to look at the other side of this coin - without console versions they would not have been able to devout so much time and resources to one game (especially in a relatively niche area like RPGs).

The story unfolds nicely. Graphics are nice. Killing your first dragon feels like an accomplishment in itself.

Some of the bad stuff :(

The tactical camera takes some getting used to but once you adjust, it becomes muscle memory with your fingers at that point.

Looting sucks, I want to right click and have my character run over to the item and loot it. Sometimes you have to be standing right on top of the item to pick it up.

There isn't much of a tutorial in the war room or for crafting. Its not that in depth but something would have been nice.

To those on the fence about getting the game I would say this...........Judge it after 20 hours of gameplay. By then the story will have opened up, you will have your palace, you will have so many side quests and places to explore. You will have dabbled in master crafting, decorating your palace and coordinating your 4 man team to bring down a dragon!!!!!!!. This is a true RPG that I have been immersed in since launch.

Very nice RPG, they've made several improvements to the game since Dragon Age Origin (never played the second game). The combat system took a while to get use to, but is fun when you figure it out. It's not RPG of the year material, but a nice change for the Dragon Age series.

Minus one point for every bad thing in game:
    1. Controls for PC is bad.
    2. Tactical mode is just awful. It is actually almost unusable if you compare it with DAO. Even DA2 was better in that sense. Camera is too close.
    3. Language restrictions. I cannot buy game without localization in my country.
    4. And localization is bad.
    5. Anyway I buy game with original sound/text. And for some characters voices are bad. For main character - you have only two option of sound (and they not so different). Some NPC have bad voicing. Like very young-looking and small templar commander Lucious with strong bass voice). It is ridiculous.
    6. Too much black skinned people in game. It isn't realistic. Why in middle-age setting in the snows half of population is black? Why it wasn't so in DAO? I for more in-game options but mixing people of all races in fantasy game only for show - it is bad taste. If in ME it was ok - because all people was mixed in the future - here it is very dumb and unexplainable. Just imagine Game of Thrones or Lord of the Rings but hald of characters is black. Actually where is black elves and black dwarfs and anyway - why black and not Asians? Maybe because Asians don't complain about equality?
    7. Same with romance options. Bioware want to show how it is ok to be gay and how gay equals with not-gay people. And they show that equality in ... number of romance options! But it is exaggerrated. Anyway it feels more like lesson about equality than like good plot. I do not complain about gay-options at all. But in DAO it was implemented very good. And here and on DA2 it is added just for making a point. They devs. They can make all game about gays and it can be good game.
    8. Depth of side quests is bad. You feel like you play in MMORPG.
    9. Romance options - for straight male it is only Josephine she is pretty but very unremarkable as character. Cassandra is good comrade and well written but she is in her forties already and Sera is pretty ugly and dumb. And compare them to Merill, Morrigan, Leliana, Niishka, Lelliana, Jaheira, Aerie, Viconia. They was pretty and well written characters. Maybe Bioware wanted to make some un-cliched women but instead they just used another cliche. Anyway as straight man i have terrible feeling that gay-romance options is better in this game. Maybe it is done on purpose.
    10. Boring dialogs. Some better than others but most is boring. In big game like this it may be unavoidable and if it is only problem it is ok.

Short version: It is shallow game with good graphics but without soul. It is wrong too call it RPG. It is action with RPG elements. It is ported on PC very bad. Gay and bi characters added for approval of LGBT-community and black people added for equality but without any explanations. Atmosphere and setting of DAO is ruined.

Plot Development: Candy crush evokes more emotion than the story line of Dragon Age: Inquisition. In the beginning of the game, you wake up on the field of battle with special powers that make almost everyone want to follow you. Those that don't want to follow, hate. There is no depth to the development of your character, or any other character for that matter.

Character development: Who are these people and why are they following you? Who knows.... For the most part, they are simply too lazy to lead themselves, or anyone else for that matter, so they follow the guy with the glowing hand that can apparently close the demon doors into this world. "What is this glowing hand and how did you develop the power to close these doors" you might ask? Who knows.. The pain of playing the game to find the answer makes you quickly forget why you bought the game in the first place.

Graphics and performance: I am running a PC powered by an i7 4770k CPU, GTX 780-Ti, 16 GB ram and I STILL experience stuttering quite frequently. How do you spend this much money developing a game only to have j/v issues like this!? The world is extremely un-polished and looks as though it were covered in shiny plastic.

Game play: Skills and abilities available to your group are limited, leaving your inner tactician thirsting for more options. It was almost like playing an MMORPG with no-one else online.... dull...as...hell....

Well, steam has overgrown such problems like a decade ago..

    The second ringbell was right after the start: those who preordered this game could use "The Origin Great Game Guarantee" - get full refund before 24 hrs run out since first launch;
but for those who get the game after - it is no more, so EA admits - it is not "The Origin Great Game" any more? What exactly has happened?

    - Game dont run on dual cores?
    - Not a problem, the system requirements were published before the release, we dont support losers.
    - Game has freezes/low fps/crashes?
    - Nah, we will use that new protection system (that adds new problems?) so pirates will not suffer it (as our loyal customers do). Thanks.
    - You are a dedicated PC user?
    - Nonsense, all gamers must have a gamepad in order to play, if u dont have one (or dont wanna have) and u use kbrd+mouse then - u r a looser, admit it.

Gave it 1 cos i hope in some parallel universe players could:

    Enjoy deep NPC personalities;
    Enjoy deep and interesting quest chains;
    Enjoy hardcore tactical battles if u r oldschool hardcore player (or just DA:Origins fan) ;
    Enjoy visual side (animation/look);
    Add mods to the game;
    Play the game at the language u wanna to;
Play the game comfortably on all the platforms.

I've put about 10 hours into the PC version game and I really don't see myself spending much more. Much like many other's reviews, I really dislike the controls. It shouldn't be a chore to loot a corpse (if you even happen to notice that there was loot left behind).

There's nothing fluid about the UI at all. The weapon/armor upgrade system is confusing as hell.

Maybe I'm splitting hairs but the skill tree doesn't feel exciting. The fact that I can fully upgrade a skill to its maximum potential within the first couple of skill points I am given just feels wrong.

I picked a Mage character.. and the majority of the time in combat is spent waiting for my hotbutton skills to be active. I gave up on "auto attacking" way before. Besides, who has time to auto attack when you are trying to position the camera to see if a rift can be 'disrupted' for the 18th time before it closes?

Have to agree with others that this might be better on console, and was likely designed FOR console. But I am wishing I could get my money back.

    - Some unnecessary time fillers (some collectibles etc seem to be implemented just to serve as a time sink)
    - Little variety of spells for mage
    - AI dumbed down with very limited/non-existent tactics and commands (couldn’t issue a command to revive my teammates if I’m alive)
    - Menus are a mess (just to find out how much HP you have you have to scroll down all the way down to check attributes or …..rely on VISUAL representation of your statistics which does not help at all when you compare stuff like +18hp belt)
    - No tooltip for skills!!!
    - No innovations in the gameplay (unless you count NO HEALING as innovation)
    - Quests are classical MMORPG go, fetch, kill, return

POOR POOR game for PC. Looks great and ‘feels’ great on the surface but on the PC it is simply not enjoyable. A whole lot of negatives could’ve been fixed if only BIOWARE did not neglect the PC market of the game. I did preorder it and after 12 hours of pushing myself just to get my money worth back I conclude that it is the biggest disappointment in my whole gaming career.

PS. big standing ovation for BIOWARE/EA marketing departments, they are good enough to sell sand on Sahara desert...

The side-quests are MMO style hunt and gather, repetitive and dull. A far cry from their start in Baldur's Gate where you could almost always find a twist or even Dragon Age Origins where at least part of them had enough complications to keep you interested.

The controls on the PC are amazingly bad, the UI is almost thoughtless in its design and while the graphics are fine, my modded Skyrim looks better and (somehow) works better. There has been no optimization and seeing as how Bio is bad at it already, I don't expect that to change. If they'd have allowed for a tool set kit, I would have expected the community to fix it (as it happened for Skyrim) but alas...

I am giving it a 2 because it squeezed a few laughs out of me, but it's not even mediocre in my eyes. It is not an RPG, not even an action game. It is a high fantasy hiking simulator.

I would classify this game as a missed opportunity. For those of you who expected Bioware to redeem itself, I'm very sorry. I'm as disappointed as you are.

I'll try to keep it balanced and unbiased:

Pros: - Graphics is good. Not awesome for 2014 but good and qualifies as eye candy. - The game world is larger than Dragon Age 2. It isn't actually an open world as in the Elder Scrolls games but at least you won't revisit the same locations over and over again. - You can meet characters from previous games. Cons:
    - The main story and conversations feel as though they are written for teens and, which is worse, by teens. Cringe-worthy B- grade stuff.
    - Combat is godawful. A mix of MMO combat with console action. Button mashing . Don't even try to play Inquisition with keyboard and mouse.
    - The character animations are clumsy and unnatural. I know it's a common enough problem for 3D games but this time the developers didn't even try. Annoying and breaks immersion.
    - Serious performance issues on a rig that can handle Shadows of Mordor on High/Ultra without any trouble.

    Conclusion:
Not the most terrible game I've played in my life but it could be much better.

I have played every BioWare RPG since Baldur's Gate, and I have enjoyed all of them to different degrees. One thing I wish people would realize is that BioWare will never make the same game twice- they will always attempt to do something different with the next game. Sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn't. It really works here, and I LOVE the way this game comes together.

I wonder about the people lining up to give "0" reviews for this game. I have played exactly ONE game I would give a zero- Deadly Towers for NES. I sometimes think that people who spam zero reviews are people who need to leave the house and get a life, because no game should ever crush your spirit or enrage you to the point that you need to make it your mission to tell people how horrible it is, as if the game is a personal affront to you because you need to learn a new way of controlling characters on the screen.

Let me clear this up for people: It is only UNPLAYABLE if you have zero aptitude for learning new control schemes. Yes, you will suck at the beginning, because that's how it works when you play new games for the first time. And then you will get better and forget about the controls, and the game is simply awesome.

    Enjoy!

Every single thing in this game is the definition of cliché. Bioware were never good at creating a thrilling or fun game play. "Not boring" tactical fights and running around finding "secret" stashes, in between the cut-scenes and dialogue, were the highest point they could get some of their games to. Anyone who played their old games did so because of the story and the characters. In DA: Inquisition both the game play and the story and characters are brutally degraded to a new level of low. This fact alone makes me... well not sad because I don't care about EA games, but it does bring some nostalgia for BG, IWD and Kotor in me. Which the game itself failed to do so. The game could be played at most once, and in a rush besides that, if the player can stoically withstand the horrible game play. Only to go through the lackluster story that doesn't bring up any emotion. The characters along the way are hollow and develop poorly if at all. I wont go into details because they are just a bad joke gone wrong and don't deserve your attention. Draw your own conclusions.
TL:DR You better play something else if you want to have fun or want a rich characters and a good story. If you have played and liked any of the following: BG 1/2, Neverwinter 1/2, Morrowind/Oblivion/Skyrim, Kotor 1/2, DA: Origins, even Kingdoms of Amalur, Fable 1 or whatever, I sincerely promise to you, that you WILL be disappointed by DA: I.

A lot of people expect Bioware to just chug out clone after clone of Baldur's Gate, rather than attempting to create something new, and the idea that anybody could actually appreciate games that have other qualities means is absurd to them, which is why they brand all positive reviews of DA3 as being a result of journalists being paid off by publishers.

It's a rather sad state of affairs that breeds monster conspiracies like #gamergate, and it happens equally as much in response to arty games with unusual concepts getting good reviews.

I've learned to generally just ignore the user scores on metacritic and just read journalist's reviews as they tend to bear at least some resemblance to the actually quality of the video game they are reviewing.

As a fan of the world I give it a 9 but an 8 seems right for most people who just play the games.

Visuals----10: You will see Thedas as you have never seen it before. This game is visually impressive and artistically genius. The characters, the scenery, the special effects; when dialed all the way up, this game is simply breathtaking. The cut scenes are as good as any Bioware has ever done. They stutter due to being capped at 30fps but there is a fix for it (use google). Despite this stutter (and poor decision to cap the scenes at 30fps by Bioware) the quality and beauty of the game world are so good that I could not give this less than 10.

Sound----10: Though the music is quite dull, it is extremely effective at its goal of creating ambiance. And I think that is what matters most. The voice acting however, is some of the best I've ever heard. As an actor myself, I am impressed with the range and quality of the voice actors.

Game Design----9: I know a lot of people complain about the quality of the controls on the PC. Personally I use an Xbox controller and have been extremely satisfied with the controls. The camera can be clunky at times and I ran into a couple of minor bugs. But I have not had any of the problems others have reported. Maybe I'm just lucky I don't know. Inquisition is also a massive game, easily larger than Skyrim. As much as I love Skyrim, the quality and quantity of Inquisition's content is unmatched.

Fun factor----9: DAI can be a bit repetitive, especially if you are playing as a warrior. But at higher difficulties you really have to make the most of the tactical overview. Even though the tactics at your disposal are somewhat limited early on, later on in the game they really open up, creating a feeling very much akin to Origins. You can play this game for hundreds of hours and not be bored.

Overall---10: I am on my second play through right now, and I am continually impressed by Inquisition. I don't understand what most of the negative reviewers are talking about at all. I did not follow the game's development very closely. And I think the game may be a victim of hype. If you are a fan of RPGs this game is a must buy. If you rated it a zero no game could ever meet your expectations and you should just stop playing video games entirely.

the whole gameplay is focused for console use and the pc is just an afterthought.
thats why the mouse/keyboard control just doesn't work, it wasn't designed for it.

For the people criticizing the "shallow" story, and the nonsensical plot, you realize you aren't even "The Inquisitor" until at least 20 hours into the game! The starting area and stronghold is NOT the awe-inspiring Skyhold the developers are delighted to have you explore.
I myself almost....aaaalmost stopped playing around 15 hours into the game, because, quite frankly, I was disappointed and feeling like Bioware really sealed their own coffin in this game. I found myself saying to myself, "so this is it?" The truth is, it isn't. You eventually realize that the dry and admittedly grind-esque prologue (yes, the prologue is almost 20 hours!!) really is necessary, and fleshes out and makes your journey from a small upstart group to an immense organization INCREDIBLE. No other game has dared to put as much detail, time, and progress you need to fully realize your hero. After the initial forgettable 20 hours, the next 80 hours will have you riveted and lost in the glorious world Bioware has created.

Quests are one at a time and must be completed in a particular order. Combat is about mouse clicks. The faster you click, the more you shoot (or swing a weapon, depending on your class). Like all arcade shooters, you find power-ups, er, I mean, health potions as you go. The camera never gets very close. At best it hangs well behind your character, which makes the game feel distant and impersonal. It's not role-playing at all, but a primitive arcade shooter. On a positive note, good graphics. Expand

There are downsides to the game obviously, combat in my opinion is really good but tactical camera is clunky, there are some stability issues but that is to be expected for a game this big on the first week of release on 4 consoles as well as PC. Animations can be a bit stiff at times, but the character models are gorgeous, and all in all the game just blew me away.

I haven't felt sucked into a story and world to the point of talking to every damn peasant, exploring every corners of the maps, since, bah, I don't know. Fallout? Combat stirkes a pretty dazzling balance between action and tactical and cherry on top, you can hop from one extreme to the other at will at the press of a key depending on the situation.
The story, while nothing groundbreaking, is engrossing by the span of its details delivered in a strikingly concise manner most of the time, keeping the pace hardy.
I'm nearing 20 hours and barely done with the early zones, compelled to explore them completely, do every quest, which is usually not my type of behavior at all. I've never seen me this obsessive compulsive. The fault being in what I can only guess so far is a vast taperstry of a story that unveils slowly but surely with every little activity. Every action seems to have weight and I can't wait to see the implication of my early choices. And at the speed I'm going, it's gonna take way more than 100 hours to get to the conclusion.
Don't listen to the overly critical voices out here. I'm not calling the game flawless and the 10 is more a reaction to the trollesque rants that make no sense. The game would probably be a 9 for me, in truth. The ride is great but the seatbelt is itchy. So I can understand people who'd not get into it, not so much one who'd rate it 0 and call it a pile of **** This isn't an indie, crafted for the hardcore RPG fan, for sure. There are lots of quests, and the story line seems ok too. I like this Dragon Age the most of the 3 because: 1 Large open world, 2 Lots of quests, 3 Good tactics/strategy options, and 4 the storyline isn't so linear. Two thumbs up on this one. :) Expand

Like most of the other RPG fans here, I loved DA:O and loathed DA2. Never could I have imagined that I would hate DAI so much that I'm asking for a refund after less than 24 hours of playing it. Absolutely love what they have done with the overall game!!! @40+ hrs now and between the depth of story and expanse of maps and areas the game has exceeded my expectations so far. I feel for those people who own lower end PC's that cannot run the game, and I will say that the system requirements are pretty high but apart from that and the tactical controls, Bioware has done justice in bringing the Dragon Age universe to the next level:

    The Good

    1. Expansive world maps, exploration and questing system.

    2. Unlockable quests/locations

    3. Dynamic Zone Leveling to match player level

    4. Excellent story and character development. (Love it)

    5. Crafting system makes crafting your own items meaningful, some of the best items I've used have all been crafted. (Love it)

    6. Never the same setup twice, re-spawning areas change dynamically based on level. Mobs evolve or change entirely. (Love it)

    The Bad

    1. Should have some indication of level requirement for each area, can be frustrating to discover you are too low level for an area only after you've died 10x's.

    2. Performance hit for most systems is pretty high, shouldn't have to buy a new rig to play the game on current gen technology.

    3. Cut scenes are choppy and audio tends to break up if you play for extended periods of time even when settings are turned down to low.

    4. Tactical combat mode is not intuitive and can be very frustrating for PC users. There should at least be an option to turn it off for the PC. (Re-think this one Bioware!)

    5. Melee/Close Range Combat needs some help, its not fluid and people not use to having to manually control your aiming and targeting this can be a real pain to deal with. Most people I play with switched to ranged characters because they were frustrated with Melee combat.

    6. Personal storage should have been included, we get a Keep/Castle yet we have no place to store our items?? Tsk Tsk, this should have been a given... (Go go modders!)

Overall opinion is very good! I would recommend the game to anyone who loves a great story, good action, exploration and questing and RPGs.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Dragon Age: Origins had great tactical combat, Dragon Age 2 had very fluid combat, Dragon Age Inquisition has neither. It has obviously been dumbed down to the nth degree for the console crowd, so if you have a console and simplicity, this is for you!

The recruitable characters have all the personality of a potato, from Cassandra's one dimensional sneer, to the tofu-like Solas, they are all very boring. Even Varric, a very interesting character from DA:2 is bland in this game.

Looting is a chore, every field has elf-root spread all over it and every cliff numerous mineral nodes. Again, the console crowd will love it, it feeds the console OCD, but as a PC gamer, it was just monotonous. I spent more time running around picking stuff up than I did fighting, which was almost a blessing considering the boring combat.

I am just glad that Origin is refunding my purchase or I would be really unhappy. As it is, I am just sad that such a great series has gone so far downhill.

Speaking of combat, it is just a huge disappointment. In DA: Origins, mages felt powerful and two-handed weapons felt beefy and hit hard. In this game everything is just homogenized with truncated skill lines and very boring combat.

I have played every BioWare game since Baldur's Gate and am a lifelong fan of the genre. This game is absolutely fantastic, and the complaints are vastly overblown. A tremendous technical achievement with superb storytelling.

Cons: Really just one of note: the battle system, particularly the tactical camera, is slightly clunky - especially when playing with mouse and keyboard. It took me a few hours to get used to it. It is still not on the level of the Infinity Engine games or Divinity: Original Sin (to which this game will draw inevitable comparison). If this game was a fantasy tactical battle sim it could receive no better than a 3/10. Luckily, it's not.

    Pros:

    * Size: This game is a massive work of art. The world is huge and fun to explore. After DA2, this was an unexpected boon.

    * Dialogue: Voice acting is great and dialogue options are extensive. Best of all, conversations are very dynamic: your actions in the game world have a big influence on the dialogue options available, and there are often several trees of conversation to go down, reminiscent of the BioWare games of yore.

    * Story: I'm only about 25 hours in, but the worldbuilding is already incredibly impressive. BioWare is really making something out of this property now, adding lots of depth to the world while building on the familiar elements. Importantly for me, the world feels populated: well, as much as it would be considering the events. Lots of recruitable party members (9) each with distinctive personalities. The party dynamics are excellent. For the first time since DA:O I feel compelled to play through the story multiple times just to see how different story options play out.

Graphics and sound: I'm playing on a reasonably baller rig, but I've had no issues with framerate running everything at ultra. The music is great and immersive (listen to the bards!) and the environments look incredible. Character models are the weak point, especially hair, which looks terrible (as it has in the first two games).

Verdict: If you like single-player RPGs, you should like this game. I heartily recommend it to everyone. It's not the perfect game, but it's incredibly good. I've never actually felt compelled to write a review for a game until I saw the negative user reaction this game was getting. If you're on the edge about buying this game, IGNORE the naysayers completely, they have literally no clue what they're talking about. While some of their concerns are justified, they are completely overblown. This is an excellent game, more than worth buying, Good luck with your Inquisition.

For example, I have a gaming computer that far exceeds the requirements to the run the game at max settings, and then some. However, even turning my graphics down to low/med settings fails to increase performance over the 20-25 fps the game generally runs at, or the 10-15 fps that

For example, I have a gaming computer that far exceeds the requirements to the run the game at max settings, and then some. However, even turning my graphics down to low/med settings fails to increase performance over the 20-25 fps the game generally runs at, or the 10-15 fps that it runs in crowded, or forested areas.

On top of the terrible fps the motions are jerky, and all the cutscenes are a choppy stuttery mess. This isn't just my personal issue. Apparently it's very widespread.

2-For PC users the interface is nigh unplayable with a mouse, and keyboard. We, don't even have a button to toggle walk, and click to move is gone as well.

For PC users movement is sprint, or nothing, and with the aforementioned lag issues clicking the TINY loot bags is a nightmare. The interface is nothing short of a bad console port, and it really stings after the videos they made claiming they were developing something intuitive for the PC interface. I have seen console users complaining about the controls as well. With the poor design, and all the lag spikes, it makes targeting enemies as a melee class enraging. Too often you'll be swinging at empty air.

3-Design idiocy. If you like combat with as much complexity as the old arcade beatemup "Streets of Rage" you'll really dig Inquisitions combat. Combat has been streamlined to be so simple that I actually began to miss FF 13's combat depth...and that's bad. Really bad.

I hope none of you like many buttons because 29 hours in on my warrior I have 3 attacks, and a few utility abilities, two of which I'm convinced aren't working. If you normally play mages like I do, you'll probably want to reroll like I did. Your spells are few. Your spells are weak. Your weakest spells still use up almost half of your mana/energy bar. (Which regens like rogue energy does from wow.) Therefore, you cast a couple of your largely ineffective spells, go oom, and then proceed to be gangraped by, wolves, bandits, demons, npc apostate mages(lol), bigger wolves, big bug.....things, honey badgers, TEMPLARS, angry squirrels, little old ladies, and chronic constipation. I'll put it like this...if mages had always been this weak since the inception of the series, nobody on Thedas would fear them, nobody would let them in their army, nobody would have heard of Tevinter, and there would be no Templars unless they ran a charitable order like "Feed the Mages", or some such ****

Even DA2 mages feel like demigod powerhouses with abilities, and spells aplenty compared to Inquisition's mage garbage.

Also mounts are badly animated hard to control polygonal lumps that will make reaching your destination actually take longer than just running there.

All in all game play wise the story is the best thing going for the game, and yes some dislike it, but that's always gonna be the case.
I didn't get a refund, because I decided to wait for the technical problems to hopefully get ironed out, and the despite all the above **** I really want to see where the story goes.

I could go on, but the above is the most common points of hate so far.

P.S. Console owners are reporting the same terrible frame rates now too.

But there are to many problems on pc. Low frame rate 40-20 (20) being the biggest problem on medium settings. The game automatically puts my settings to a mix of high and ultra. I have twin GTX 760's, 16g ram, i7 3.5. HORRIBLE. If they fix the problem I would give it a better Review.

Combat is just spamfest. I know that consoles are limited by the number of buttons... but seriously... There is no tactical feel like there were in Origin. It has been dumbed down to stupid hack'n slash with the worst follower AI that doesn't follow commands more than 1½ second then they're back to the dafuq am I doing commands.

All in all it's clumsy, ugly and why the heck wouldn't you support mods like in Origins.

you dont have to pick a healer or play as one anymore because healing magic is gone (no more wynne)

    cons:
Combat sucks - no more tactics, just buttonmashing
    enemies are dumb bulletsponges
the sad excuse of an up-top tactical view, nowhere near da:origins
your comrades dont have any character, even varric has lost his humor
the story starts boring (no origins-like character background, your background is being told via text in the character creation)
you dont see the faces of people when you talk to them anymore, thus they all seem like puppets you dont care about
dull mmo-like sidequests (kill 10 guys, bring me 5 animalskins, activate base x by walking there)
not remotely story-driven, feels like a single player-mmorpg
no real leveling up, where da:origins had tons of different skills, da: inquisition leaves the player with limited choices (especially the mages suck compared to da:origins, you only have 4 types of magic now, fire, ice, lightning and some buff-crap)
stats level up automatically, making them practically useless
    the minimap is bad
other than english, the voiceover sucks
why are there 5 male romance options for male humans, but only 2 females? (one of which is pretty much a man too)

In conclusion: if you never played da:origins you might enjoy this game, if you did: stay away from this title.

I loved both DA: Origins and 2. The stories were good and the combat was somewhat enjoyable. You could just get on with the story like a proper RPG without having to dick around doing "collect X" quests. This game has THE WORST combat system I've ever had the misfortune of using. It's a complete snooze fest, you basically either just spam-click or hold the attack button. I've got about 13 hours wasted on this game and not once was I entertained in combat. Your AI companions need constant hand-holding to not get themselves killed, the tactical cam is useless.. the controls are just horrible. Don't get me started on looting, like REALLY BioWare?

I would not recommend this game to anyone, ever. And shame on all the "critics".. obviously all of them were paid off. It's like taking a bite of cardboard and saying it tastes good. You're either a liar or an idiot.

It is painfully obvious that this is a game made for a console controller, and zero effort was put into adapting the controls over to a mouse and key board. You are forced to move your character with wsad only. Which would be ok, if you could still click and drag to move the battle camera while auto attacking but that ability is gone. There is no ability to bind your own keys and make the controls what you want them to be, there is no click to loot function(so you have to manually WSAD it all over to explore and loot & you have to be right on top of the loot to pick it up. Moving the cam is difficult & annoying. The tactical cam is an after thought environment gets in the way, & does not zoom out far enough to be useful.

I have no idea how any of the critics who demoed this game played on the PC and failed to mention these issues. I bought the digital deluxe version launch day for $79, and it is unplayable.
I loved DA:Origin. This game, as it was released...well it sucks. Not saying it can't be fixed with some major patches, but when its a major release from EA you expect it to work. It is honestly unplayable as it stands. I would give it a negative score if I could for controls alone.

Many characters and environmental features look real. Unfortunately, real sometimes looks bad. You get to see imperfections and great effects at the same time.

Audio - 10: I noticed a good deal of the ambient music reminds me of the Hobbit movies. Very good and timely scores. Maybe one of the better scores I have heard in a game.

Performance - 8: I play this with a 680M (mobile nvidia 680) and 3.4 ghz Ivy Bridge quad core. Nothing fancy here. I play it at near ultra settings for texture, shadows, water effects, and lighting. In highly congested areas like the crossroads area frame rate drops quite a bit, but performance is otherwise comparable with Skyrim or The Witcher 2. Load times have been excellent with a lower end SSD drive.

Reliability - 9: I consistently play under long sessions. Load times do not increase. I had one video related crash after leaving it up for eight hours. The clipping issues mentioned in other reviews rarely ever happen. When standing inside Leliana's tent with the camera outside, sometimes the top of the tent cuts off the view in the conversation. I noticed when keeping the camera over the shoulder, this almost never happens.

Gameplay - 9: This game is like a mix of The Witcher 2, Dragon Age: Origins, Ultima, and SWTOR. I think the creators looked for the best features in prior games and meshed them together into one game. There is more to do in this game than any other game I have ever played. Some quests are heavily involved, many side quests are the usual hunt and fetch, while others fall in between. If there is a knock on it all, there is almost too much to do. I am not sure what to tackle next. Where the creators excelled was in the integration of the various modes such as the side quests, main quest, war room, etc. into one seamless experience. It all feels very organic. I found a tower ran by bandits, defeated the leader, looted the joint, found a clue that pointed to a larger organization overseeing the bandits, and this creates a quest automatically. You may choose to move forward or not; it is not as cut and dry as prior RPGs.

Combat - 8: Combat is actually decent. The difficulty on hard is tremendously challenging. I start every game on hard first before going to nightmare or insanity. Bioware/EA nodded to RPGs of old by allowing the player to fail. I stepped into some very difficult areas early on and was slaughtered. If you want to micromanage your characters, you can. If you want them to manage themselves, you can. I think folks miss the tactics options in prior Dragon Age games, but they were actually redundant. Certain skills will always get used so why program them manually? I do notice the pause and play features come in handy when fighting the most difficult battles. Most of the time, I just play my main character and let my companions do what they do best.

Story - 9: The main story is great so far. It is well integrated and thought out. The start was a little rushed in setting up the main character's role. As I mentioned before there is so much to do, there is not enough story to keep the player completely engaged. In other words, you may have to enjoy the side quests and crafting systems as they stand because they take an astronomical amount of time. The characters are more realistic than in prior games. Some of the characters like the Warden and Cullen are fantastic and well written. A couple characters are absolutely annoying, but you get the good with the bad. Still the whole sequence of events, the writing, and the companions appear significantly more mature than in prior games. There is a hint of realism at every turn in the story.

Summary - 9: I would put this against any modern RPG today. As matter of fact, I am not certain there is an RPG like this today. If you are looking for Baldurs Gate or Dragon Age: Origins, you will not find it here. It is not Mass Effect or the Witcher either. It is a great game with an emphasis on environment, exploration, and realism. I think the user reviews would be significantly better if we treated this like a brand new game instead of the supposed successor to DA:O and BG.

Graphics: The character facial texture, movement and lip syncing is excellent. Facial texture is best I have seen in game thus far. Building textures are on par with industry standard RPG.
Performance: On ROG G750JS, I get occasional choppiness during cut scenes. During game play this is not noticeable at all. The control is immediately responsive and menu pop up is immediate.
Story : This is far less personal story compared to DA1 and DA2. In this you are building the Inquisition of the old as its leader. If you have God complex, this is certainly a welcome storyline.
Combat mechanics : AI is reasonable. You do occasionally need to go into Tactical view to order potion to be consumed or direct a focus fire. However, I've so far have found that Tactical view is largely non-essential compared to DA1 and DA2; where tactical view was essential.
Sound : Excellent voice over, all characters are fully voiced with 2 different voice option per gender available to player.
Character customization : Extensive enough that I would recommend Youtube viewing.

Overall I find this game a worthy successor to popular DA franchise. The scheme of the game has changed substantially but largely for the better. No bugs have personally been found yet except for possible game freeze after alt tabbing.

The PC controls, the "tactical" (lol) camera, the menus, and other UI design decisions all make it clear that PC players are simply not the chosen demographic for this game.

When I first started seeing the negative comments about the PC controls, I thought, "Well that's okay, I usually rebind all my keys anyways". Little did I know that the issues on PC go way beyond just bad key-binds.

For example, the "tactical" camera is in this game is a complete joke. This is a feature that was in the previous Dragon Age games. It allows you to pause the game and assess the situation, issue commands to party members, etc.. This is an extremely important feature for difficult fights. Unfortunately, in DA: Inquisition, this feature is a clunky mess. You can't zoom out far enough to really be able to assess what's going on. The angles available to you while in this tactical cam mode are awful, especially during close-quarters fighting. Even just trying to look up while in this mode is difficult. Switching between characters and giving commands is somehow now worse than in the previous two games. This needs to be addressed immediately.

The camera behavior is frustrating out of tactical mode too. When you attempt to zoom the camera out via the mouse wheel, the game auto switches you to tactical mode. This cannot be turned off. When you engage in dialogue with an NPC, the camera auto-pans to the side a bit. There have been several conversations I've had where the camera panned behind a tree or other obstruction, leaving me to stare at foliage while my character is conversing. Whoever was in charge of the camera behavior in this game really dropped the ball.

Now on to the menus. Because the menus were designed for a controller, navigating them on PC is tedious. Got a new item in your inventory? Want to equip it? Have fun going through various menus and sub-menus, instead of just simply opening a bag and clicking the item. The ability trees are equally clunky, it took me a bit to figure out how to scroll down to the bottom of the trees, (you can't just use the mouse wheel scroll function, you have to click and drag the screen).

They've also removed click to move and a number of other features that made the previous two games enjoyable on PC. Even looting in this game is clunky. Would you like to be able to mouse over an ability on your hot bar and read a tool tip which states exactly what it does? Too bad, that doesn't exist in this game! Have fun clicking through more menus and sub-menus just to get the info you want about an ability.

The game does have good qualities too: it looks great, the environments are impressive, it has skill trees that allow you to build custom characters, the character creation process is great, the sound/music is great, it's not completely linear and is more of an open world. I think the story and writing isn't the best, but it's not atrocious either. There's definitely potential for a great game here, but the combat controls and UI really ruin the experience.

6/10 at the moment, I will adjust my score if they fix the issues I've listed above.

Addendum: I should also add that the tactics options in this game have been seriously reduced compared to the previous two Dragon Age games. You used to be able to set very precise behavioral controls for your party members, where they would use a certain ability when certain combat conditions were met. I'm not sure why they stripped this feature, it was really well done in the previous games.

Also, there is now no healing in the game. You get "barrier" type spells for damage reduction, and 8 health potions. When you run out of health potions, you have to return to camp to restock.

The lack of tactics and healing do not make the game any better, frankly I think it's a regression.

I really love the game,so may be biased ;). You are warned.
    Pluses:
DA:I is huge, there is tons of stuff to do if you want to explore or you can "rush" the story ,too,by doing bare minimum of side missions to gain power that is needed to advance the story. The introduction chapter (untill you get your keep) is excessively long though, imo. Story so far is good (really hope they will not

Story so far is good (really hope they will not pull ME3 at the very end),characters are interesting and have their own personality, some areas are freaking enormous and you can spend days running through them to do everything,if you want. Universe is immersive (besides few bugs)
Graphics are very good, but i have new (970) video card so cant speak for experience on older hardware.
    Minuses:
Camera in pc is bad. Hard to target some rifts (things that you NEED to target) mid combat. In conversation it sometimes centers on empty corner instead of on the person you speak with.
Tactical combat is poorly implemented, few things that you can do with it are countered by abovementioned bad camera and AI that sometimes simply ignores your orders.
PC controls are awkward, takes time to adjust and you cant remap attack key. Thank you ,multiplayer :(,i guess.
There are bugs - had crash only once, but my elven mage has apparently dual personality - it is Dalish and from circle at same time. Mouse sometimes fails to activate conversations wheel options.
But all in all, despite those minuses i really really enjoy the game. Cant understand people that rate 100+h of content game so low for crappy controls that you nevertheless will get used to after couple of hours.
If Bioware will fix camera game will be 10 for me.

I'm 20 hours into the game and it's fantastic. Everything you would want in an RPG is here. It's also all very solid, well done, and fully realized. It really seems as if Bioware was determined not to make any part of it half-assed at all. Also, to allow the player to do everything how he or she wants to.

Don't mind the people giving this game a 0. SOME might have actually played some of it but, they are probably shallow, simple-minded gamers who just can't handle a game of complexity. They probably can't handle very much reading either. I guess if instead it was a children's pop-up book or something they would enjoy it.

    Software Engine:
Generally speaking, the story writing/momentum in Dragon Age: Inquisition is of poor quality compared to Dragon Age: Origins because the "frostbite engine" took up far to much resources/focus/time. While the "intentions/ideas" behind Dragon Age: Inquisition is fantastic, it never "rise" above the standards of an "expansion pack" on it's own. As a side-note: Dragon Age 2

As a side-note: Dragon Age 2 was actually developed from the start as an "expansion pack" for Dragon Age: Origins.

Dragon Age: Origins did run on the "Eclipse Engine" and Dragon Age 2 on the "Lycium Engine", while lot of bad things can be said about the "character designs" in Dragon Age 2 and lack of fluff features found in Dragin Age: Origins the "Lycium Engine" did a really good job, and here we have the core of the problem: Dragon Age: Inquisition is using the "frostbite engine" that has been butchered into something it's not meant to do, and it really shows.

For the sake of discussion; - If BioWare had tweaked the "Lycium Engine" and put all content/resources/time there we would have had a "true" successor to Dragon Age: Origins that most players would have had a "connection with", but as of now jumping into a First person shooter/car driving engine was a terrible bad call!

    Design flaws:
To re-invent a "working concept" is a dangerous thing, and how Electronic Art's could allow BioWare to mess with their best IP like this is for me a riddle since each years FIFA only has some new logos/text and still sell good...

Really, if BioWare and Electronic Arts (with respect said) had swallowed their "inflated pride" and contacted Bethesda Softworks and told them about Dragon Age: Inquisition and if they could get a license to use Bethesda's own "Creation Engine" we would have had a fantastic game. Skyrim (running on the Creation Engine) with player-made mods has support for serveral companions and amazing features. So I am not the least exaggerating when I say: Bethesda's "Creation Engine" can do anything Frostbite does right now much better excluding multiplayer.

But oh no, it had to be Frostbite, and here we are just like with Dragon Age 2, a lackluster story that somehow fails to play out as "intended". The best thing that could happen with Dragon Age: Inquisition is that somehow a dedicated player-base convert it all to a mod for Dragon Age: Origins or Skyrim.

While the PR department did a really good job in sending out copies for "early reviews", everything got over-hyped just like a glass of water in a dry desert, and "design flaws" (aka design-compromises) with a "lackluster story" more or less (as usual) was ignored by the major reviewers.

    Why all the dual-core hate:
While most people acknowledge that "dual cores" are in the twilight years by now, it was a strike under the belt to "code in" a software non-start routine for the owners of such computers, even if the minimum restrictions is listed as quad-core to run the game. It might even be so that the "Denuvo DRM" demands so much resources on PC so that is the main reason why dual-cores can't play the game (food for thought)...

    Multiplayer co-op:
I found a quite alarming newsflash on the internet "EA to "retire" online support for select games" - and my logical question now is what will happen with the co-op multiplayer and "the keep" when EA decide to retire Dragon Age: Inquisition?
    Source: http://www.pcgamer.com/ea-to-retire-online-support-for-select-games

When looking on the "EA Online Service Updates" (their own official list with all titles they terminated support for) I see that the Dragon Age franchise already got hit "Dragon Age Legends for Facebook and Google+".
    Source: http://www.ea.com/1/service-updates

With a future like this in store for Dragon Age: Inquisition I would think it really would benefit the game with the following changes (mentioned for the sake of discussion).

    a. include a offline co-op mode
    b. include co-op LAN support
    c. include co-op Direct IP support
    d. include "The Keep" as a DLC (for "future compatibility") since something similar was done for Mass Effect 2 when a port was done for Playstation 3.

People who buy DA:I should not have a "critical parts" of the game "die on them" just because they don't have internet access or EA shut down support for their game (remember what happened when Gamespy shut down multiplayer support?)

Final words: Dragon Age: Inquisition does not play well in a semi-open corridor environment. The Frostbite Engine is a fiasco and the Lycium Engine, Unreal Engine or Bethesda's "Creation Engine" had done much more justice to Dragon Age: Inquisition.

    Final Score: Buyer beware!

My girl went down and see me play for a bit and she asked if those are my bodyguards ;) she's not into gaming but that sentence capture the whole feeling of the game I directly control one character manually using all the abilities almost constantly while the rest of the 'team' just do their thing. Additionally I can't really set any meaningful behaviours for example I would like the mage to cast a barier (absorbs damage) not at the begining of the fight as he tends to cast it but 'when character drop below x% of life but nope there is no such thing and this apply to all spells/abilities. All you can do in tactics is set how many potions they can drink and when and how much stamina should they keep reserved...

There is zero tactics so far as you cant even queue orders so if you want your rogue to enter stealth go around the enemy and than use his backstab you have to do it yourself or keep track of where he/she is and issue orders manually and thats just one example.

This game is meant to be played with the controller 100%, pc controls (mouse/keyboard) works somehow in tactical camera but the camera itself is messed up to the point that its just painful to use. The angles you can work with are messed up completely, there is no free cam, you can either zoom max out and see everything from the top (hotline miami) or zoom in and get to the ground in 3rd person view, you cant have the camera up and just change the angle to not be on 90 degree, moving the mouse to the edge of the screen does nothing you have to move the camera around with keys... you dont have to spam the button or hold it to attack as in tactical view you only need to click attack once and the character will keep attacking it until the enemy dies but the way the camera works makes the whole mode very cumbersome and really painful to use. I just gave up on it as I was fighting more with the camera controls than with my enemies.

Game would be awesome if they just implement the free camera and would look amazing if I can just move it around as entirely different entity. I would play the whole game in tac-cam than. The jumping is a fricking gimmick there are **** of invisible walls and you have to jump to get over 2cm objects like small rocks ;/

It seems to treat wherever you hold down the RMB as if you held it in the middle of the screen and then moved it to that spot

Instead of every other 3rd person game on the planet that doesn't start moving the camera until AFTER you hold down RMB.

    4) No lock on to targets. You have to manually follow them. This is particularly bad because of #1 through #3

    5) Terrible lack of visual indicators of your current target. It is a very tiny + symbol in the middle of its body.

No circles on the ground. Nothing like normal.

    6) You have to hold down LMB or R to keep attacking.

    7) Only 8 ability slots. Terrible. Absolutely Terrible.

    8) No ability to swap between ranged and melee weapons.

    9) If you click on a lootable item from more than a few feet, nothing happens. Your character doesn't walk to it and pick it up.

    10) Searching is horrendous. You have to spam V to search. It highlights items for a half second. Brutal.

    11) In general, it is like they haven't played any MMO or 3rd person game from the last 10-15 years.

Now, I am enjoying taking chunks out of it, knowing that it portends a long journey through beautiful vistas, battling varied foes, with far more sophisticated story branches and AI/companion relationships.

I have had some occasional frame rate and loading time frustration, but I understand the context of my three year old gaming laptop (pretty good at the time, with an Nvidia 675MX). But I can adjust my settings, and now have a smooth experience. The models, the motion - all top notch.

The new combat interface takes some getting used to, as it is more complex than DA:O. But, the combat is much more fluid. Among other subtle but noticeable advances, whereas I have often been frustrated with AI path finding, my companions are much more rational and effective in DA:I.

I cannot say a great deal, because at about 15 hours in, I have clearly just scratched the surface. Which I love.

Things like poor cutscenes and dialogue that reads like it was written by a 12 year old. Wait, that's not fair to 12 year olds; it's like it was written by a 12 year old moron, not a normal 12 year old. The graphics, even set to max quality on every setting, are incredibly disappointing. Cutscenes are choppy even on a system playing the actual game itself of 60+ fps. If you want a basic unthinking and repetitive action game, then you might think this is OK, IF the fix the controls or if you already own a game console controller which you can plug in. There are already plenty of repetitive actions games (which can be incredibly fun, no doubt), but that's not what Bioware and Dragon Age were always about. With this realease I think we can safely say that Bioware no longer really exists. What exists where Bioware used to be is something else, maybe something trying to become ID software.

It would be nice if Metacritic had a review system for their "professional critic" reviews, because just like DA2, it's completely obvious that these critics reviews had to be bought. The game is basically unplayable. How can an unplayable game get good reviews, period?

If it wasn't named dragon age, my score would have been a 9, but this isn't the case, there are lots of things missing/changed from the first 2 games that the PR propaganda machine failed to mention and you should consider before buying the game :

UI and control system were designed to be played with a gamepad, keyboard and mouse was a painful experience. The first 2 games achieved a very good balance between gamepad and K&M, this isn't the case, I understand lots of people could be disappointed because of that.

You don't gain attributes levelling up, you increment them through passive abilities from the skill trees and through equipment.

Tactics screen very dumbed down, it wouldn't have hurt the inclusion of some advanced tactics screen, it was one of the best features of the first two games, and a very big disappointment for me, specially because the IA does strange things and I've been forced to micromanage more than I would have want.

Lack of healing spells and stash.

Summarising, Bioware developed a very good game but lost a lot of credibility on my eyes, not because of the casualization of mechanics trying to increase sells, but because they tried to hide it and mislead old fans of the saga into buying the game.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game, simply put, is an unfinished mess and I advise against purchasing it at this time, in it's current form. I also advise against buying Dragon Age: Inquisition any time soon if EA keeps their present pace and disposition towards actually FIXING the problems.

There is apparently a fundamental coding problem that causes AMD Radeon as well as several Nvidia GPU's to "HANG" and cause a DX error. Overclocked processors also seems to have issue with the game. My system far exceeds the minimum requirements as well as the recommended requirements and I am completely unable to the play this game.

EA has already tried to say this problem is "SOLVED" in their "Answers HQ" site. They said an AMD Catalyst beta driver patch 14.11 would fix this problem. Untrue. They have since rescinded the "SOLVED" on that particular issue, but I see "SOLVED" popping up on other issues I know not to be.

There are also a host of other issues people who can actually play are having. They range from bonus items promised for the Digital Deluxe version not being DL'd to gameplay mechanics issues. The problems run the full gambit in between.

I can honestly say I have never been so excited for a game and then so let down. This is my first MetaCritic review and I am bummed it has to be a negative one.

Save your money, and save yourself some frustration on this one. I am going to ask for a refund and maybe a year from now when they FINISH this game I will consider it again for PC. Seems to make more sense to just buy it for a console though. I am now suspecting strongly it was intended for and written for consoles with PC's as a port afterthought..though that is only a suspicion as I have not actually been able to PLAY the game for more than 2-3 minute increments. I am basing this opinion largely on other consumer reviews I have read.

Does anyone else find it a little fishy this game got such RAVE reviews by critics without a whisper of any of these issues? Who owns these gaming review magazines and web sites I wonder?

First of all, this isn't my final score, I aim to have an impact on people's way of mind rather than on the overall review score of the game. So this review can be considered a review of the reviews rather than a review of the game.

I wonder if people actually understand what a review is, it's not where you show whether you liked the game or not, if so then I think a basic system of thumbs up thumbs down would work better, but it's not such a system unfortunately. I'm going to be commenting on both the high and low ratings in order to seem as unbiased as possible.

I understand that it may be hard to rightfully judge a game considering how ratings actually work nowadays, a 7 of 10 is considered mediocre, 4 of 10 is considered bad, and so forth. Though it should be common sense that very few games are worthy of 10s, and even fewer are worthy of 0s.

A score of 10 would mean that the game has absolutely no flaws or issues, or an extremely small amount of them. 10 would mean that the game is as perfect as it can be, this game does have issues, that's clear to see. Mainly concerning PC optimization, framerate drops and controls and such are problematic. Giving a 10 is not good, it won't give the developers any reason to improve on future games, for this reason, giving a 0 is actually better.

Giving a score of 0 is a different story however, I can think of very few games that actually deserve 0, the one that comes to mind is Big Rigs: Over the Road Racing, which was an unfinished game that had barely entered alpha stage. Even games such as Ride to Hell deserve at least a 1 for the effort, but that's just my opinion so take that for granted. 0 Would mean that the game has absolutely no redeeming qualities whatsoever, and every single feature of the game is flawed.

The users that give the game a 10 are only mentioning the things they love about the game, ignoring the issues completely, same with users who give it 0 who only focus on the flaws. I've seen a few reviews that start with sentences such as "I'm only 10 hours in and I'm already bored" and given it a 0, if the game was actually worth a 0 then you most likely wouldn't have been able to play for 10 hours.

Most reviews that give a 10 or 0 have a simulated sense of reliability because the score matches up with what the review actually says. A review that enthusiastically talks about how perfect the game without mentioning any flaw will obviously sound reliable to the reader, because it has no flaws at all it's deserving of a 10 right? And vice versa.

Then there are opinions of course, I can't affect your opinions, though hopefully I've gotten through to at least a few of you

TL;DR: This has become a war between fanboys and haters, with the fanboys coming out slightly on top. Giving the game a 10 or 0 because you slightly like or dislike it completely defeats the purpose of a review in the first place, it's pretty **** ridiculous and pathetic. Those of you who actually give honest reviews with honest scores, I applaud you.

Like I stated in my Civ: BE review, it's pretty rare for me to consider a game below a '5'. DA:I is one of those rare and terrible occasions.

Let me start out by saying what little I liked about the game before moving on to the many, many cons.

    Pros:
The backdrop and world are much better looking than in Dragon Age:Origins and Dragon Age 2. There is no disputing that. Even the models have the potential to be so much better looking (I'll get to that later). It's a beautiful game... if you have the hardware to run it.

Feels a lot less corridor constrained than DA2, though it's certainly still there, they've managed to hide it a lot better. Unfortunately they negate this by having nothing interesting happen in the wide open corridors, but at least they've improved on this feature from DA2.

Not half as many re-used assets. Did going through the same dungeon 20 times in DA2 annoy you? That's no longer the case here.

And... that's about it as far as pros go.

    Cons:

Let me start off with the biggest offender that I'm sure you've seen mentioned before: the PC controls. They're an abomination and more than anything else make it obvious what a terrible console port this piece of garbage is. No click to loot, no click to move, awful camera control. It's just plain bad for PC players. The UI was obviously designed with consoles in mind and is downright painful to navigate, and don't even get me started on the "inventory" system.

The optimization for this game is also terrible. I can run skyrim on a 500 series gtx card, max settings, zero lag. This game doesn't look half as good, and you need a 900 series card to run it at max settings. You'll still get horrible FPS with a top of the line 980. That's inexcusable.

The second biggest offender is the story and dialogue. This more than anything else is both unforgivable and yet completely predictable for anyone who has been following Gaider's downward spiral since Baldur's Gate. Like Sawyer, Gaider can be a good writer if he's kept on a leash and slapped whenever he tries to do something idiotic or push his insane political/social ideology in the game. That clearly wasn't the case here just like it was in Dragon Age 2, and if anything it's gotten worse since Dragon Age 2.

The dialogue is a good example of what it would look like if someone took Anthony Burch(borderlands, or as it's known on the internet "meme lands")'s worst writing and then gave it unbelievably bad accents.
Half the time I didn't even understand what the characters were trying to say to me. Like another person said, maybe the voice actors should have been allowed to write their own lines, they probably would have done a better job.

The story and "plot" is just a bastardized version of Oblivion. You're the hero with a 'insert generic and pointless drivel here' background, now go close down these oblivion ga- I mean fade rifts and everyone will be okay with you doing it even though they had no idea who you were 5 seconds ago.

Moving on to something I mentioned in the pro's section: the character models. Bioware used Frostbite 3 (the engine Dice constantly lied about being unmoddable) for Dragon Age Inquisition. As anyone whos played battlefield can tell you, this is a fantastic engine with amazing potential. Which makes it that much more amazing that all of your companions and nearly every npc is ugly as sin. The elf party members, Seras and Solas, are from a race constantly described in the lore as universally attractive. Seras looks like someone mixed a pug with a hobgoblin and then repeatedly hit the resulting abomination in the face with a metal bat, and has an 80 year old's sagging knockers despite being from a race that maintains their youth longer and not even being in her 40s. Solas looks like a bald Nicholas Cage with a melted face. Don't even get me started on the hair, though fortunately for Bioware they've never been good at that so at least they have an excuse for that.

Anyways, moving on to what should be the meat of every rpg - the quests. It looks like someone at Bioware had the bright idea of padding their game with mmo style quests. This is a single player rpg, not a mmo. There is no logical reason to have a character collect 15 wolf butts, nor a reason to have them do variations of that quest DOZENS OF TIMES. Not unless you were trying to pad out your game so you could say it was X amount of hours....

Finally, let's talk about the stat and skill system. Or more specifically, the fact that there isn't a stat system. Oh you certainly have stats, they simply have no effect on the game and you have zero interaction with them. They're just numbers that automatically increase every time you level up. Does that sound like an RPG to you? Skills are very, very dumbed down. You also can't switch out in mid battle. Hope you like using the same spells over and over again. Oh, and did I mention you can only have FOUR in multiplayer?

Other things that bothered me but weren't game breakers include:
-weird looking character models; everyone looked oily and moved in very jagged unnatural motions
-random crashes, as in, I couldn't really replicate them or find the cause, the game will just crash from time to time
-extremely long load times, I have this game installed on my HDD and it would take a minute or two before I can get into game and due to the random crashes...this can get rather annoying. I am considering putting this game onto my SSD partition

Combat is so unsatisfying. When you swing a 2-handed sword at someone, it should hit with some umph. But you can stand there swinging at an enemy with all your might and have 3 party members wailing on it as well and it will still take 5-10 seconds to whittle it's HP down to zero. That's how this game rolls, battles are a slow grind.

As has been mentioned by every other review, controls are trash. You move your cursor to something lootable. "Loot" text appears. You go "cool, a chest" and do what every computer user on this planet would do, you click your mouse, WRONG. That swings your sword. Apparently the action button is the F key. I've gotten used to it now but it's still unwieldy... the camera doesn't help, it's hard to see and get a good view of your surroundings.

Story is a load of crap and an Oblivion rip-off. It's disappointing because the lore in Dragon Age is substantial and engaging. This was the best they could come up with? Do they have interns and programmers writing the plot and dialogue now?

The way the game shoves you into the plot is abrupt and confusing. You're not even sure what your character did for a living or where he came from but he's now savior of the world leading the Inquisition. A whole roster of party members are just there. You're used to building up your own party, but here the party is already there.

The dialogue and conversations between your party members are just brutal. The voice acting itself is good (maybe the voice actors should just write their own lines), I have no problems with graphics or stuttering on my rig and I do like the Mass Effect dialogue wheel. The character creator is fine.

Skills / stats / RPG character development: I like it. Typically there's only 1 good way to allocate stats on a class in any RPG. You mass points in your main stat and then a little bit of HP or maybe some mana or whatever. It's gotten tedious and redundant in modern games. So DAI does it for you. If you really enjoy putting 2 points in STR or Dex or Int every level, I guess you'll hate this. Skill advancement uses many of the same trees and specifications of Origins and II.

And hey they actually brought equipment for your party members back in Inquisition, which was missing from II. Varric can even unequip Bianca and take a couple daggers to battle. In fact for some reason he did this automatically. Only problem is the inventory screen is kind of a monstrosity. There's lots of stuff going on and lots of menus to click through. I still have to figure it out.

Game gets a 5 from me for now. To grade a game lower than that, it has to be a genuinely bad experience (like Dragon Age II was), and Inquisition isn't, it's more just kind of mediocre.

I'm loving it so far.

I'm running the graphics on Ultra on a brand new Alienware laptop and I haven't had ANY issues whatsoever - no glitching, no bugs, no lag. People complaining about the mechanics and tech specs need to realize that there are minimum requirements for a reason, and playing with just the minimum is not going to be as good as playing with better than minimum. It's a next gen game for next gen platforms - of course it's not going to be as awesome on 360 or PS3 or older PCs. Use a little common sense.

Simply put, the game is fantastic, and is one Bioware should be proud of.

After all the hype this certainly is a disappointment. I bought it on ps3 because people here were saying the controls are made for console, which is the first really sad thing. Kinda destroys the immersion in dialogue scenes. I hope it's not this bad on better platforms. DA:O looked way better imo because it was darker; this one is another adventure in the bright and colorful fairy forest with ADHD magical effects and explosions.

The game seems to be doing what big and hyped games do best nowadays: copying everything from other successful games. Like said, it's like single player MMO and also reminds me alot about Assassins Creeds and Kingdoms of Amalur. I can't understand why things I kill respawn in a single player game. It really destroys the feeling that I'm changing the world somehow. I hate it in MMO's too but I do understand it's kind of important in an MMO that other players can kill the creatures too. They have made it sort of an exploring RPG but the world isn't nearly beautiful enough for that. I think the classic corridor running BioWare world worked much better than this "open" world which just feels like they have added tons of useless rocks, trees and plains around those corridors to make the navigating a bit harder so it would feel like open world. Every feature in game has reminded me of some other game so far.

Oh, and those critics that gave this game 100%? I'd really like to have them to explain me how this is such a great game. It's an ok game copying some kinda cool things from other kinda cool games, nothing new or special. I hope the story will get really good, otherwise this might be a waste of time. Hasn't impressed so far though. 6/10, an average RPG with nothing new to offer and in need of some patching.

I loved DO Origins and was one of the many who really hated DA2, never finished it. DAI is definitely an improvement over DA2, however I can still see the obvious design choices made for console support that really reduce enjoyment on the PC. Graphics are OK overall, definitely not up to Skyrim levels, at least not up to the high Rez texture pack. Serviceable, but I really wonder how they got those screenshots leading up to release, because that isn't what I am seeing (running everything max). Graphics, not a big deal.

Open world? Not sure at this stage how open it really is, seems to have a number do enforced boundaries (corridors) at this stage in the early game, but that might very well change as the game opens up. it does open up somewhat, bit I now see what people were talking about with the whole MMO feel of the game, it does feel like an MMO with mobs spawning all over the place....

Annoyances - (revised: combat SUCKS! Controls are awful, there is no real strategic option, path finding is terrible and the camera is unusable in tactical mode) #1 combat is clearly still designed around button mashing console controllers. I was really hoping the return of the tactical camera would bring back the option to play in a more traditional RPG style, but the camera is poor- you can't zoom out far enough to see the combatants without having to scroll around the battlefield. Really frustrating to try to use. Oh yeah, those stupid DA2 animations are still present, your mages dance around turning their backs to fire staff missile attacks, etc...Plus your characters still look silly after combat with blood splattered all over them. AOE spells are difficult to use if you put friendly fire on, why couldn't they put an area of effect zone outline when you want to cast a spell? Yeah, I know, lots of people loved the DA2 combat. Not me though, I am old school original 1st edition d&d player, and prefer more realistic looking combat. Also not a big fan of the MMO styled combat text - just too damn busy with the crap flying around the screen.

Another annoyance : loot controls don't auto loot when clicked, you have to physically move directly next to the item to loot it. WTF? With all the streamlining they did for this game why did they leave that out?

Storyline? I don't know, seems a bit too close to Oblivion gates if you ask me, surely someone could come up with something more original on the writing team?

Inventory - god awful, they made a terrible inventory management system just for consoles. How damn difficult would it have been to have two interfaces for inventory, one 'console friendly' and one 'classic?

Skill trees...MEH, maybe things change later on but they are damn simplified now and little variety in the skills. hopefully there are more skills I haven't unlocked yet,,,,

Classes: Gauntlet style classes, why in the hell did they remove heal spells? Oh that's right they must have done that to force you to farm ingredients to pad the number of hours in the game. Warriors can't use bows? WTF!

I think Bioware really blew it when they decided to go their own way and create their own game mechanics instead of continuing to license D&D system. The first Dragon Age had a lot of influences from the early D&D rules and classic Balders Gate. They simplified all the rules so much to make this a very light 'action style' RPG, and there are much better options out there right now. (Shadow of Mordor anyone?)

After DA2 I swore I would never buy another Bioware title preorder but the day before release I buckled because of the glowing reviews. I got taken, again.

Anyway, I am probably going to play a lot of hours with this game (maybe not if this crap stays the same). I really wish the combat offered a seamless split option between old school and the action button fest, instead of a really unusable tactical combat option. My opinion, your mileage may vary.

I will start by saying that I had played all Dragon age Game and DLC, and was a fan of the DAO combat system, and the depth of its lore, DA II was a bad attempt to bring casual/console player in with a stupid and unfinished Korean action RPG style, non linear story and god awful/shameful reuse of assets..

With the hype behind DAI, and multiple reviewers/youtuber I had hope Bioware would have stopped the hemoragy and try to gain back the core PC player of DAO. While, they stopped the hemorrhage they didn't seems to understand why most of us hated DA II... And bear in mind that I'm reviewing it while keeping in mind PC GAMES FEATURE, not consoles....

    First the good points:
    - Decent graphic,
    - Decent PC portage, but still lack features,
    - Fully voiced over character,
    - Eye candy feature like renaming crafted item, customizing character, few logic mini-games...
    - Multiples wink to the old character we loved/hated from DAO / DAO II
    - The story behind DAI seems ok so far, but discussion choice of your character seems to have less "anti-human/chantry/social" option as in DAO

    The bad:
    - Mix of the combat system of DAO/DA II is a failure,
    - Console shrinked UI, and UI settings,
DA II character/BAG UI was bad, well, it's even worst in DAI...
    - Camera zoom option/UI scaling non existant
    - Lack of Key-binding ability
You could literally plug a controller on your PC and play DAI as if you're in a console
    - Weird hit box on player/ spell range
Probably due to their fail attempt of creating an Action type RPG game making the game playing with Friendly Fire on painful,
    - Trying to recreate and sandbox GTA/FarCry like game
Lot of useless side quests/gathering artifacts, zone that have no point but to make you grind XP/Loot
    - Multiples annoying bug like:
Instant respawn of mobs you just killed
Don't even try to use "hold" ability to ask your companion to stand still, it's broken.
    Character teleporting left and right,
    Broken tactical
    - Infinite loading screen:
I have a decent machine and installed the game on a SSD, and yet trying to load a new area (not the one you're currently is way too slow) with random drop of frame-rate from time to time (even when in area were my R9 290 shouldn't be struggling, in a house for example)

    The Ugly:
    - They got rid of every tactical feature that made DAO micromanagement useful for a hack and slash type game play
I used to spend 5 to 10 min with each of my character in order to create the best tactical script which and help smarten the IA... Well, forget that in DAI because the IA is dumb and will forever be...
    - Tactical camera is almost useless and lack multiples feature like:
    * Detailed command,
    * Detailed character routing option,
    - Cannot have a clear overview of the battlefield:
The camera is zoomed too closed to the ground that you cannot see anything beside the few mobs in your melee range.
    - Attribute point from leveling nonexistent
Instead you gain your stat point in your talent/ability tree... thanks for dumbing it down for us Bioware

Bottom line, Dragon Age Inquisition is a game to play, but not the way you used too. Sit down behind your screen, brainlessly hack and slash your way to the end with a decent story behind it. Trying to play it in nightmare seems to be a waste of time since the mobs still react as if they are heavier punching bags... Not the real challenge you would have expect....

Dragon Age 2 was found out for Bioware/EA hiring a LOT of people in Russia and China to fudge metacritic scores, and it seems the same PR machine is attempting to work overtime again....but anyway, on with the review!.....

The fact is, DA3 is the progression of dumbing down games to the mass market, bad market research, and lazy game design. It has devolved from the tagline on the back of the Dragon Age Origins box (of which i have in front of me) that reads "The Dark Fantasy Epic" to what is now probably a cheesy parody of itself.

The Dragon Age franchise is so rich with lore from its first game, the fact that they went down the hilariously cliche "rifts open up in world, you're our only hope" storyline is both unimaginative, uninspiring, and a depressingly well-trodden path. You could have had a game that literally played out between the mages and templars without that added pointlessness, and had it be just as vast, epic and enthralling.

The PC version IS a terrible console port, and that is how you can tell the paid reviewers on this site from the actual real reviewers. The controls are messy, rushed, and ill thought out.

Its quests DO have a hideously grindy feeling MMO fetch quest nature about them. This was even highlighted in a PCGamer video as they played through it and mentioned it as a worry of theirs, but funnily enough, now their review has come out, they changed their tune to no quests feeling pointless. Funny how a final review in a paid magazine can change so differently from their preview, isnt it? Despite only 1 month passing inbetween.

It is sad that the gameworld looks so beautiful (which is what it does gain marks for), yet is filled up with all this filler. The gameworld could be more open, it does feel linear, but its real problem stems from trying to marry a WoW-esque hand holding experience to take your places and also wanting to be Skyrim at the same time. The two dont work well together.

Combat is very dull. One of my chief complaints about DA2 was the fact enemies respawned and just had more hitpoints as you changed the difficulty setting, instead of placing different monsters with/and/or different abilities. The same is true here. Bioware seem to care more about the story these days than actually producing a game.

The sad thing is, when the story then lets you down (and it doesnt entirely, but the dialogue does), and that was the leg you were standing on, it brings everything else crashing down with it.
The developers seem to think we're scared of reading more than 5 words to choose what we want to say, despite in Dragon Age Origins you having nearly a full sentence for each option. This becomes a big problem, because a lot of the time it means you end up with your character not saying what you thought you were going to say.

In a ROLEplaying game, that is hilariously bad, and extremely lazy.

    So to sum up -
    Cons :
    -Bad dialogue
    -Cliched medicore storyline
    -Mediocre Combat and controls
    -Badly ported
    -Pointless MMO filler questing
-EA China/Russia paid for metacritic reviews skewing the real reviewers.

    Pros
-Worth a punt when its been reduced to about £10 and you've nothing better to play
    -Beautiful looking scenary and landscaping
    -Dragon Age world/universe nostalgia.

I have 10 hours in the game. Still in the first map, is vast but most of the quest are mediocre, but some are alright. The combat was hard to get to used to (i play on PC). But at the end what is important is if am having fun with the game and the answer is yes. But please Bioware, stop making PC ports based on the console version of the game.

This is the best game of the 2014 year! I don`t know what are the whiners below talking about but this game is totally incredible!

Really huge picturesque world, tons of interesting quests, unique characters with their own deep stories!

I've read every single review here (good, neutral & bad), and it's interesting that many of the low-medium rated scores go into great detail of why DAI is bad, whereas +75% of the 9-10/10 scores are often just one paragraph in length, and seem to do nothing but whine "Don't listen to anyone else's opinion except mine", "I'm giving this 10 purely because someone else gave it a 2" or yellI've read every single review here (good, neutral & bad), and it's interesting that many of the low-medium rated scores go into great detail of why DAI is bad, whereas +75% of the 9-10/10 scores are often just one paragraph in length, and seem to do nothing but whine "Don't listen to anyone else's opinion except mine", "I'm giving this 10 purely because someone else gave it a 2" or yell "troll" or "hater" against anyone who disagrees over the game's genuinely iffy mechanics (broken keyb + mouse controls, broken tactical camera, unscaled 'designed for TV' 10ft HUD on the 2ft PC version, no click to move, dumbed down MMO-style button mashing combat that genuinely feels out of place in a "heavy tactical RPG" franchise, etc).

There are indeed some people who may unfairly down-vote good games on the back of who the publisher is, but in DAI's case the low scores have it right regarding the shockingly bad PC version's / tactical camera controls for DAI and very obvious consolization / "bad port" on the HUD & controller vs keyb+mouse inputs. The REAL trolls are those openly admitting their 10/10 scores aren't a reflection of the actual game but rather a childish fake "revenge score" against anyone who "dares" to give it more than 2-3 points lower than they did. And hating / attacking other people for "daring" to vote a game lower than your own score is just chronic "fanboy" insecurity.

I love this site, and am well aware of some "hate reviews" spoiling some good games - but that cuts both ways and also includes high voting trolls trying to pretend that buggy games are somehow perfect works of art. Metacritic needs a huge "user review" overhaul starting with automatic review deletions for anyone who admits "I gave a false score of x purely because someone else said something I didn't like" as that isn't a serious "review" at all, it's exactly the same "score trolling" they falsely accuse the "haters" of. Another thing that needs bans are the sleazy personal attacks on the lines of "Anyone who downvotes Bioware games must hate gay people" false-flag 'hate speech' accusations, of which I've read by at least two childish 10/10 trolls here. Finally, there also needs to be automatic review deletions / flagging for those who vote up the same game multiple times for multiple platforms (have you REALLY gone and spent $300 buying the same $60 game 5x over for separate PC, PS4, XB1, XBOX360 & PS3 versions of the same game? No - so at least 4 out of those 5x 10* reviews are fake then...

Some people are just going to have to "get over themselves" that not every game you personally like deserves a 10 if it has iffy game mechanics that are serious enough to cause a widespread backlash / complaint on multiple gaming forums - and that's DAI in a nutshell - a very pretty game with a good soundtrack that's completely spoiled by some messed up "console first" input design decisions that have rendered keyboard & mouse input controls highly annoying. Same goes for stupid 10/10 reviews with simultaneous "but I'm just waiting for a patch". A perfect 10 should be just that - an infallibly perfect game in ALL aspects, and DAI is far, far from that with even Bioware themselves admitting some aspects of the PC version need urgently patching.

Really a huge disappointment. It sounds like a joke, but it's worse than Kingdom of Amalur.
This game is a stupid MMORPG. The dialogues are so stupid as to seem fake. The quests are the level of World of Warcraft. Combat is one of the worst things I have ever seen.
    Bioware is dead.

This game looks like a real good one, and I mean it. I will not rant here much, the others said everything.

In this form this game is an autotargeting shooter colsole port. Its now more like the Diablo 3 console version, like any Dragon Age, or any tactical game supposed to use with people with brains.

The UI uses too big console fonts and nonsense menus-into-menus on PC. But why? I am not playing on TV, i am sitting in front of a 32" monitor.

If we get a patch where they fix the controls and the UI I will gladly give it a 8 or 9, with no problems.

But until then it is ridiculos console shooter.

Very poor optimization. Open world, and not as open as announced. Terrible control on PC. Graphics does not meet the requirements.

Bioware has redeemed themselves with the latest Dragon Age game. Everything is highly polished and well executed. The graphics are some of the best in a RPG to date. Excellent action and amazing maps to explore. Every detail is great, from water running down objects in the rain, no hitting a giant on the foot and he grabs his foot and hops around in pain. You will need a good computer to get the great graphics. Multiplayer is a little shallow but it is still fun.

My only complaint is that you can not play the campaign co-op. There are many reviews giving this game a 0. Simply look at any of those accounts and you will see they were made just to spam this site, they are not real reviews. People claiming bad graphics... total insanity. I have been playing games since the Commodore 64 and have worked as a graphic artist... and I have to say this game simply raises the bar on what to expect from a modern RPG.

Urgh.... Yea, that's right, Urgh! Or is it Urg? Either way, that's my latest word to describe the new Dragon Age game in a nutshell...

This is going to be a short one because I wasted enough time on Dragon Age that god forbid I want to waste anymore time writing about it! So lets start with the pros, because frankly there isn't many of them, so lets get those out of the way first:

Graphics: The graphics are not amazing, nor are they out of this world, but they are none the less suitable and impressive. They're good enough that they don't bog the game down, and they are decent enough that you can immerse yourself into the world. There has been some improvement in how the characters look (not creative wise, I'll get to that soon...) and the environments are pretty solid.

Customization: The level of customization is impressive within character creation, and you get to design a character that should, in theory, feel 'personal' to you. However, a friend told me that the same customization is lacking in multiplayer, which I've not tried, so that was a strange one if true.

And that is, sadly, it. The only two positive things I can extract from the game. Now, moving on!

Plot: Lets start with the biggest criminal in the room. The plot. It is bad. I'm sorry but it is. It's like the devs just couldn't come up with something original or interesting - it doesn't have to be original but it does have to be interesting -and decided to go ahead and rip out the plot from Elder Scrolls: Oblivion and put a spin on it. Your central story revolves around you being forcefully cast into being the hero. I won't go into it much as I want to avoid spoilers, but lets say it felt weak. I couldn't help but smirk just how bad the whole setup is. I could go on but I want to keep this brief as possible. For a hyped up game like Dragon Age, I believe the writers have milked their last udder, and should hastily leave the building.

Character Design: Urg... Yeah, this is it. This is what made me say, "Right, time for a refund!" I get it Bioware. You want to break away from tradition. You want your elf to look like Dobby from Harry Potter. You want beardless dwarfs (yet again) who go around cheekily trying to tell bad dirty jokes and chatting up the ladies, you want to support gay rights so you have a Big Bull Man (a Quanari that apparently now have horns) become a romancable option even though it makes zero sense for that particular character, but hey, you did it with Kaidan in Mass Effect, why not Dragon Age! Gah! The character designs, the look, the writing for them, are completely terrible. Bland and non-interesting. This is the nail in the coffin for the Dragon Age series, and this is what did it for me. The writing!

RPG Mechanic: At no point in the game did I feel I wanted to waste my time with the tactics system or the leveling up system. Everything about it feels uninteresting, tedious and just an annoyance. In the games defense, I chose casual, as I wanted to enjoy the narrative. Since I quickly realized how bad that narrative was going to be, I tried to take some enjoyment out of the DA RPG system, and I frankly found nothing enjoyable about it. It's a cheap hack and slash but done in a way that its even more boring than most mmo combat mechanics. You just hold down the button and hack at everything. The first major boss fight that you'll find yourself in is a bore fest and most of the time the boss roams about not doing anything, as if disinterested. What a shame.

Quests: "Lets put some interesting quests in this game for once that take effort backed up by good solid writing." - "Nah... Let's just pop letters around the world, books and have npcs give collection quests." Yay! O wait.. what? Yeah that's right, the old age method of introducing bland quests in an rpg is still live and well.

All in all, Dragon Age inquisitions will be enjoyed by those who don't look too deep into a plotline and don't really care about the points I've made above because, if your the type of player that will drool over a large map and large environment then you'll be right at home here.

I guess I'm disappointed enough to create an account to make a review, I want this to change badly. Huge DA:O fan, enjoyed DAII as well. Spent about an hour tweaking my tapestry so it was as I remember, created a character and boom. The WORST CONTROLS I've ever experienced in an RPG ever. Game breakingly bad.

The controls are so bad I can't believe they've released it like this. Why? I can't understand it, this was marketed as a tactical combat RPG for us PC people and it is genuinely unplayable with the current control system. When they were trying something new in DAII it was at least fun, they at least told us that it would be different from Origins. With Inquisition, they are trying to do something they'd already mastered!

Even without using the tactical camera, this is barely playable using PC controls. I can't believe that critics haven't seen this as more fundamentally game breaking? What I was expecting to be a refined tactical experience has not turned out that way. I'm struggling to even properly attack, why no auto attack?! Why no click to move? This is basic basic basic! This is Bioware?! What the hell happened? I wanted to spend a hundred hours in this world and everything about the game seems awesome, I'd be ecstatic except for the fact that I can't actually play it.

I love the game except for the controls. They are not thought out well. I really can't imagine any developer who thought out these controls ever actually played with mouse and keyboard. It's unergonomic, clunky, clumsy, you name it.

It would have been 9 out of 10, if only the controls didn't annoy me to hell.

First thing to say - very important - this game eats your SSD for breakfast. I am NOT joking. It may or may not be the issue with Denuvo (fifa 15 seems to be fine), but it severely damages your SSD or HDD on PC. Do not get it on PC. Suppress your urge to buy a new console for it however, we don't want to see new games being **** port from console just to drive people out of PCs.

One thing to note, get out of Hinterlands. Part of the fault lies with Bioware, as many players would probably fully explore an area before going to the next. Putting many huge maps on another overland map, and put different main quests on different maps may be fantastic for some players but not for others.

Inquisition definitely has a lot of technical issues on PC platform. If a PC game plays much better with a controller than Keyboard and mouse, there is something wrong - maybe fighting games could be forgiven, but this is a sequel to lots of games which had better K+M control, which is a problem and very frustrating - actually, even more frustrating than many fighting games port to PC.

Companion AI is also a problem and shows Bioware clearly did not think everything through when working with a world in which you can actually jump. AI charging or jumping off the cliff is an often occurance. AI setting is a huge backwards step.

Overall these are the negatives of the game which most critical ones tend to focus on. Positives are already covered by critics.

It's graphically quite beautiful, and the exploration plus both forms of combat really open the game up. I like using both combat systems, and while the level designs were lacking on DA:2, I was one of the people that loved that game (so you know where I'm coming from), mostly because the combat for playing a rogue was much improved upon Origins' terrible AI movement.

I was actually surprised by how quickly the story and motivations pulled me into this game. I shouldn't have been; BioWare is fantastic when it comes to characterization and story. Regardless, this game achieves one of those very hard things to do that so many other games I play fail at: it makes me forget I'm playing a game. I'm so absorbed in every aspect of it. It's completely engrossing, and transports me into the world of Thedas. This is, quite frankly, an RPG after my own heart. It's easily the best installment in the Dragon Age franchise, and one I'm far more likely to replay for that very same reason.

If you are an RPG fan, you owe it to yourself to give this game a real shot. I honestly can't believe why there are so many negative user reviews. People are too angry and bitter and their venom shows. 0/10? Really? That is not an honest assessment.

Inquisition easily makes it into my top three RPG video games of all time, and for that reason I'm confident to give it 10/10. Not to 'balance the negative reviews', and not to say that any game is ever truly perfect (there's always room for improvement), but because it delivers in spades everything I love about RPG games and rich storytelling.

Negate the hate! Do what you love.
