I bought this game last night, was able to log in for about 5 minutes then battle.net went down. Tried again this morning and bnet was down again. No offline single player + crappy servers mean this game gets a big fat 0 for being totally unplayable.

Either it won't let me on, or will tease me for a few minutes before it boots me. I'm glad to see everyones anger at this crap and I hope these crap ratings deter others from purchasing it. If I could return this product I would march down to gamestop and demand my money back. I realize piracy is a complicated issue to control. But I'm getting sick of this whole 'not really owning the things I paid for' thing. I hope the people responsible for screwing this up are having a really bad day. It makes me angry that so many people still crap that companies are having to resort to bs like this. But this isn't the way to do it. I would gladly undergo a slightly more intensive registration process if it meant I could actually play the game I bought without the lag and getting booted. Or not being able to play it at all. I feel like blizzard sold me a product I can't even play. Expand

I wish I could trade in my copy now to get as much money back as possible but because of the online connection and serial code required to play this game once you buy it you must keep it. Blizzard really needs to get its butt in gear if it plans to keep its fans because SC2 was a huge disappointment and now they have failed to deliver with Diablo 3. Blizzard, your fans need more than just a stale storyline and upgraded graphics. Try creating more interactive environments, different routes and decisions for quests, open environments, special multiplayer concepts (not just co-op). You (Blizzard) are destroying great series' of games and you not learning or listing to your fans; they want more than just new graphics and a one-way story.

The game, has potential, if it worked. In the spirit of other Blizzard titles - we have whining players, constant changes to classes, mechanics, gameplay - and inconsistent application of stats. It just has this sour taste ... reminiscent of another Blizzard title. This is Diablo, not World of Whinecraft. Diablo fans want what they expect, not an unfinished, untested game that is flawed, broken in many ways - and still a work in progress. As a Diablo fan - who has played all 3 Diablo I'm soundly disappointed by this mediocre release. Even the auction house doesn't work. Nothing works in game! I didn't expect to play a half-finished beta - served as a final product. Pathetic.

A single player game that lags, now I've seen it all... really unplayable at times. The game it self is pretty decent when it works... but having to be online to play single player just gives so many problems that it stops being fun... what a waste of great potential.

One of the things that made D2 "fun" to play was the loot, but in this game is just crap.. Maybe Im too used to WoW's format..blues are better than white...yellow (in this case is better than blue) and orange (witch are legendary items are far better than any other color) well.. this is not the case.. you can find a legendary or a yellow and 20 min later find a blue item witch is a lot better than both, at the same lvl requirement .... what?
Another observation....I found me a really nice "Wizard" hat.... and by wizard I mean "only a wizard can equip" .. with dexterity and strenght for stats... again.. .what? The random factor on item's stats is absurd!
Last but not least.. loot rewards.. you can get a yellow out of a damned barrel! or random champion packs, but when you kill a boss.. when you kill DIABLO..THE LAST BOSS IN THE GAME.. he drops 1 or 2 blues..it feels so .. unrewarding.

Blizzards requirement to have us always be online is detrimental to the gaming experience as a whole offered up by Diablo 3. Previous Diablo games could be enjoyed solo or with others online and I think that it's reasonable to assume that the third game in the franchise would hold up to that basic tenet of the series.

That is simply not the case.
Multiplayer is fine, I expect outages, I expect connection issues from time to time. This is not an MMO however and the game is designed to be able to be played solo as well, but it is here that the connection issues are not welcome. Lag in any other single player game would be considered a bug so it is is not justifiable in any way here.

Blizzards decision to protect the RMAH at the expense of our gaming experience is reprehensible.

Diablo 3 might be the best game that no one should play.

What I wasn't expecting was a game that I would require constant internet connectivity with the absence of of a basic single player mode along with an integrated auction house which eliminates all trading games(which sucksss!!!). The mere inability to create custom games that are labeled and available to see and join is a jump in the complete opposite direction of what I consider the best game I have ever played which is diablo 2. Let me remind everyone that the characters in this game are INFERIOR to the classic must have characters of the last game. Really a monk over a paladin? But of course I want to pay for another expansion just to get the cool characters later right? Yes! The auctionhouse itself is a double edged sword as it provides quick easily accessible items which takes all of the fun and struggle out of getting new gear. As nice as it is to be able to get the items that you want quick, if you are a former d2 player you know what I'm talking about. Instead of the market being flooded with every type of item (one man's trash is another's treasure) people would simply not pick up every worthless item they found since the items had to be traded or sold for gold. In my opinion blizzard got too greedy and ruined that whole aspect of the game (which is a HUGE aspect of the game to me). The cap at four heroes per game is also a bummer as that is half the amount of characters allowed in the last game.Of course I could find more things to scrutinize, but I believe I have covered the main points which clearly show I will not be playing this game ten years later or four different times over the span of ten years like I did with the jewel of diablo 2. Blizzard used to be the best game developers in the world, it is sad to see how low they have sunk. Unfortunately there is no single player mode in this game, it's all multiplayer so friends can jump in and out of your games I don't know if there was an option to turn this off. Not that this bothers me I played every DIablo via Battle.net so it was pretty much the same, never took advantage of single player. Firstly the story feels a lot more exciting then the previous two Diablo titles, confusing at first but the cutscenes were nice. Gameplay is still fun killing enemies for treasures something the Diablo series has perfected. Auction house is a welcome addition as well, long has the diablo series needed a solid form of currency system over trading. Can't say too much about the graphics because of the style of the game, sounds & voice acting however are good. I have no complaints about this game, it's perfect and just as addicting as the other Diablo games. There aren't enough points for me to give D3. Expand

Really? This is accurate of how Diablo 3 is. Play it for a few hours or a few days and you'll tend to say "best game ever." Play it longer than that though and the impression (very, very) quickly fades. I am giving this game a 1-rating despite being a (former) Blizzard fan not only because the game requires you to always be online with servers that are very unreliable - these things can be fixed given time. The reason I am giving this game a 1-rating are because: 1) the game is too short, 2) it assumes you'll have to play the game over and over and over (ad infinitum) just to progress to the higher difficulty levels. It requires you to either grind for gear or scour the AH and in this regard, it loses what made the Diablo franchise fun. It was FUN to kill monsters. It's NOT FUN getting 1-shotted in Inferno difficulty because, despite grinding hours for gear, the RNG gods have not yet given you enough gear to be able to handle this level of difficulty. In this regard, Diablo 3 becomes a game not of skill, but of luck. There's no aspect of strategy here. To be able to survive Inferno, you need to have a very specific build with a very specific (and very hard to find or very expensive) gear.

This is not the game for you if you just want to sit back after a long tiring day at work and kill stuff and be happy about it. This is a game for people who either play games for a living, or have enough money in their Daddy's trust fund that they can afford never to work a day in their life and can spend all of it playing this game.

It is so much fun, and it is actually much better then I've expected, especially as I am not huge fan of Diablo 2, which seemed to long and grinding for me. Also what is essentially cool is that in Diablo 2 you had to invest more time on higher levels and loot here curve is linear. Getting from level 30 to 31 takes the +/- same amount of time as for 10 to 11. With levels loot is getting better and better, upgrades and runes open up new possibilities and you do not have that feeling of grinding but an orgasm of constant improvement of your character in all aspects which is a drug and you want more and more of it. Yesterday thought would play it for an hour or so and then go to bed, found myself in 4 in the morning finishing 9 hour run. What's interesting is that BlizzardI am a long-time PC gamer who played both Diablo and Diablo II for many, many hours back when they came out, as well as other great Blizzard games like Starcraft and the Warcraft series...so wow, where to start with a review of a game that was one of the most anticipated of the last 10 years, and probably one of this biggest disappointments ever. What's interesting is that Blizzard previewed this game 4 years ago, and it looked mostly done at that point. Why has it taken so long to deliver so little? I'm going to ignore the two things that seemed to get most people so angry, the requirement of a persistent connection (though I think it's a bad idea, a really bad idea), and the server issues which have made playing hit-or-miss for so many people, and concentrate on what I think are it's major failings, one, the lack of any real long-term replay-ability, and two, a game model and approach which owes way too much to World of Warcraft. Another major gameplay complaint is the way multiplayer games are handled, come on, only 4 players? No game lobby? I don't like it at all. Why take a model that worked great (D2), and throw it out the window?

This is an event-driven, very linear game. There's not much in the way of "free play" like you had in D2 at all, you can only enter the game at pre-determined quest points, if you want to play an area again. There are no persistent portals, either, which I see as a major mistake. You can not die on a quest, and go back to where you were. You have to start over, and this can be REALLY annoying. After playing this game all the way through in only a few hours, I was left asking myself where the other half of the game was, because it really seems like it's missing at least half of what it should have. Where's the beef? A good game should provide at LEAST 40 hours of play-through, (especially one that costs $60) and no, I don't think that including extra hardness levels counts. You're still doing exactly the same thing over again. The maps are all the same, every time. Many of the "maps" are basically a corridor from the entrance to the exit, with maybe a few hard mobs in the way. There is very little in the way of challenge here, much less strategy. By abandoning the attribute point and skill system, one of the really fun things that made D2 so replayable is gone. The system they replaced it with is well thought out, but it's totally unsuitable for a serious ARPG game. What they've actually done is turned this into a casual game at a hardcore price.

That brings me to the second major issue, the whole game model. It's obvious that Blizzard is intending this to be a major money-maker by creating an auction house where addicted players will be tempted into buying the best items to equip their players for the hard levels. This is clear just by the way the difficulty scales as you move through the game. It goes from easy to super hard very fast, with no commensurate boost in player stats to compensate, just the same old mismatched items that are completely ineffective. To top it all off, the "normal" auction house hasn't even been working correctly at all, and the "real money" one has been put on hold indefinitely. It's bad enough that you have to struggle against an unbalanced game, but you can't even get what you need from the auction house either. This has been a major ongoing issue, as a lot of players have reached the level where they really need those auction house items, and they can't get them. I can't help but think this is a huge step backwards. You should be able to play the game without having to buy equipment from someone else. The fact that you can't shows a really cynical approach by Blizzard to the game overall. Even in World of Warcraft, you can play the game through without having to buy anything. This game is so item-centric that you simply can't.

I'd rate this game as follows:

Graphics: 7 out of 10, mainly because they look just like WoW graphics, almost the same style.
Gameplay: 6 out of 10, because there's little strategy, and some annoying gameplay decisions.
Execution: 2 out of 10, because of the awful launch problems, MIA auction house, and terrible multiplayer implementation.

I'm afraid that this is the game that has put the nail in the coffin of Blizzard as far as I'm concerned. WoW was a good game at the start, but they've dumbed it down to a silly, childlike, purely casual game now, complete with personal flying dragons and dancing pandas. Starcraft II was a warning, in a way, because it was only 1/3 of a game, or looking at it another way, a game you had to buy two expansion packs for to have a complete game. And of course there was the DRM, and the need for a persistent internet connection. And now we have Diablo 3. Goodbye Blizzard, it was nice knowing you.

The only thing that bothers me is the random stats on gear producing an abundance of throw-away items, which is fine on blues but shouldn't really happen on rares or legendaries, particularly class specifics. It seems as though most items are meant to go to the Smith for crafting mats, I'd rather this was a more difficult choice where gear was auctionable or worth keeping for other characters. My only other major complaint its the AH, where pattern and artisan training searches in particular appear to be broken, but I'm confident that longer term this will be resolved. In all, an addictive game and a solid successor to a game that was always built around epic gear lust with fun but shallow actual gameplay. Expand

The bad: Higher difficulties suck. You pretty much need the best gear from the AH or you will be one-shotted. Inferno is pretty much unplayable for a middle-core player. Lots of boss combinations are really frustrating. The 30s cooldown on potions and long cooldown on defensive skills means every fight is pretty much do-or-die. You can't run away, you can't stock up on potions. Monsters will hit you even though on-screen you're far apart. If you die to a story-boss you need to start over. Lots of frustration/

Speaking of story, it's atrocious and hammy. Everyone carries the idiot ball, and most of the plot dialog is really poor. There's a lot of pointless GRIMDARK things too, like when you save a soldier and then he immediately explodes. Why? Because diablo is GRIM and MATURE, I guess.

The campaign is also really short, even though you replay it for each new game+ mode. Like, if you play at a moderate clip you'll probably finish normal mode in 10 hours or so. There aren't many side paths to explore, and the side-caves that are present tend to have minimal rewards.

So overall it's kind of fun, but it's also really frustrating and kind of hollow. They should rebalance the higher difficulties and add some sort of infinite dungeon. Otherwise, all that's left is farming for loot so you can farm for better loot.

The game is lacking in certain aspects such as a more in depth crafting system and there are fixes needed for things like loot drops (getting an intelligence bow while playing a barbarian is kind of dumb), as well as the randomly generated maps for dungeons. If you've played through the game once or twice, then you'll basically have an idea as to where to do in a dungeon to speed through it. The games length is on a reasonable scale, clocking in 10-15 hours depending on your play style, and as you increase the difficulty, many more hours will be put into the game (hell mode is where many players will start to find it incredibly hard including myself). The game overall is a good game, solid mechanics as well as an alright story. The drop in drop out multiplayer is outstanding, allowing you to join friends or randoms at any point of their game, or any chapter which you want to work on. If you want a dungeon crawler where eventually you'll need to grind out for some levels to really get through the game solo and don't mind working the auction house system for some better loot (once the prices finally adjust properly), then Diablo 3 is the game for you. But if you don't like the loot drop system or the difficulty curve for second or third time play throughs, maybe this game isn't for you. Expand

Graphics: 5/10 They're passable. I mean, there's nothing really new from what I remember of Diablo 2, just updated to look a bit nicer. It's actually below what I would expect, but they're not horrid.

Story: 2/10 Gah, other than a few cool parts, the story was completely predictable. And this Nephalem thing... what's wrong with just good old humans being the heroes? And Tristram! REALLY? Does EVERY Diablo story HAVE to start there? Really? And the second second act. Oh, and the barbarian lands the third act... I'm rather expecting them to shoehorn in the jungle in any expansion they come out because it's terribly hard to think of new cities and new environments to play in. I actually found the journals more interesting than what the main characters had to say, and the journals aren't really... that good.

    Gameplay: 3/10
... it's Diablo. It's a clickfest. It works. Why I'm lowering the score here is the lack of customization. Every class has every skill in that class unlocked. Gone are choosing your skill and stat points. I personally think that taking choices away from the player is a Bad Thing. Yes, they can choose anything they want, but the fact that it's all open, that there's nothing to really work for, and that there's no reason to roll another of the same class is pretty ridiculous. Sound/Music: 8/10 While not perfect, I liked the music. The sounds are fine for combat, and when listening to the journals, it dims the other sounds so you can hear it. What's annoying is that if you happen to click on something else that spews sound at you, or start a conversation, before the journal or whatever is done, the new one rides over the old one. I suppose it had to be that way, but it's still annoying.

    Miscellaneous: 2/10
Miscellaneous holds the "other" categories which don't fit neatly in sound, gameplay, story, and graphics. As the catchall, the DRM must be mentioned. YOU MUST HAVE A CONNECTION TO THE INTERNET TO PLAY. That's ridiculous! What if your internet goes down? Oh, I'll play Diablo... WAIT NO YOU CAN'T. The only more ridiculous DRM I've ever seen was on Spore, which gave you three installs, and that was it. This one makes you be social. The auction house should get a mention here, which I don't think adds to the game. The reason why? The further you go, the harder it is to find equipment for the character you are playing. I'm not kidding. I have a 40 wizard, and finding +Int items seems impossible. However, I can go on the auction house and buy them.... It's been stated by Blizzard that there's an algorithm in place to calculate drops based on your character and the auction house, which means that you find awesome stuff for other toons, and you can save them in a communal stash (great upgrade there), but they are leading people to using the auction house. Now, I have no problems with that, in theory, but just let me get my own items. What if I don't WANT to use the auction house? Why make it harder for the single player? All of this is, of course, leading up to the real money auction house (RMAH), where if you list something, from what I have read, there is a $1 dollar item fee, %15 listing fee, and ANOTHER 15% fee to transfer any money from the battlenet store to PayPal. That means that if I sell an item for $1.50, say, $1 goes to the listing fee, and it's unclear if it's %15 of the remaining money ($0.50) or of the total ($1.50). If it's the second, that's a $0.23 fee, leaving you $0.27 cents made. Then, if you transfer that to PayPal, there's another $0.04 fee to do so, leaving you with a grand total of $0.23 from a $1.50 item. Of course, the higher you sell an item for, the profit margin will grow, but who will spend REAL money for fake items? All in all, it's a shame that this game isn't better. I don't mind the idea behind the auction houses, but let people make money off of it. Just take a flat %15 and call it good. The gameplay is what you expect from Diablo, but the story is awful and rehashed. I would avoid buying it for now, and pick it up on the bargain bin six months from now, because it CAN be consuming (especially the first time through), but it's not worth $60, not by a long shot.

Being someone who massively enjoyed both the original Diablo and Sierra's Hellfire expansion as well as Diablo II and Lord of Destruction, I'm familiar with the direction that this newest addition to Blizzard's RPG hack n slash should have gone, and where it failed to meet expectations.

    Graphics:
Now some of you might be saying, "This is 2012, and we demand amazing graphics!" And while I don't deny this is completely valid, I do want to point out that Blizzard is in the habit of dumbing down graphics to make it more playable to those who don't have a super-power mega geek machine 9000. And, it's a valid point. Cartoon-ish? Eh, I'm not sure what people are prattling on about. Graphics are one of it's strong points, if not at least just a non-issue.

Game Interface: Talk about an improvement! It feels simple, easy to maneuver and best of all, they didn't screw with a whole lot. I can click away and not have any issues. Smooth and easy. Which, sadly, leads me to the rest of the interface. The auction house...oh the auction house. 3 words: It fails...badly. But we'll get to that one in a bit.

    Plot:
Oh dear, this is where Blizzard does a royal faceplant. Picking Diablo character's out of a hat and having a child write the story with them would be absolutely better than whatever nonsense the people at Blizzard bastardized. It's lazy, half-hearted and done without thought or care. It's the "that'll do" syndrome. I found myself frequently skipping scenes because frankly, I couldn't care. I can't even say anything nice about it because there's nothing nice to SAY about it. Boring, pointless, and badly done. Shame on you Blizzard.

Game-play: This is where it gets worse; much worse. Normal difficulty through Hell difficulty is OK I suppose, being that it's not terribly challenging but you do have to progress to a degree. It's easy if not a bit boring. But Inferno, let me tell you, is nigh impossible. It's as if someone turned the hardcore mega-death switch on and forgot to warn you. If I can play my level 60 Barbarian on the 4th Act in Hell Difficulty with 3 other players present, why shouldn't I be able to solo the FIRST QUEST on Act 2 of Inferno? Reason? Because Blizzard didn't bother to notice. Frequently, Rare and champion baddies are 3 times as strong as unique monsters, and drop better loot as well. Huh? That flies in the face of logic and reason. Oh and that goes for Legendary items as well. In some cases, magic items (blues) are even better than legendary items. Should this be? Certainly not. To put it simply: The loot system is wacko-jacko. Misc: Blizzard's biggest failing, among many, was the deployment of this game. I'm honestly tired of people saying, "Oh but if you have 3 million people logging in..." I DON'T CARE. You offer a product, you better damn well support it. This is a multi-million dollar operation, not some lemonade stand. I can't tell you how many times the AH has stopped working, bugged out, or simply failed to do what I asked. They've pushed back the date on the real money auction house 2 times already, and the commodities still isn't working. Another issue, which is certainly annoying, is the DRM problem. The only advantage: stops hackers from making items out of game. Disadvantages: Required internet connection, lag issues, server creates loot (not game) so I'm not even sure you get a fair shake, and if they have to reset the servers? You lose. You lose all the time.

    Summary:
It's bug riddled, lazy and sloppy work that's been branded amazing to clean up on your wallets. Thoughtlessness and sloppiness abounds and while it looks good and plays nice, it'll have you kicking and screaming about why it isn't better. Overall, 3/10. Nice try Blizz, maybe you can save it when your expansion comes out...but I doubt if anyone will be playing it still by then.

The game is very "loot-centric". If you do not go in expecting an award winning plot then you should be fine with the story. The graphics are just OK with some of the backgrounds looking very good. (This is fine as Blizz has to appeal to mid to lower end systems). Replayability seems fair as you may try out each class, but the levelling up process (and most of the game) are fairly linear.

Its a good game that you will get several hours of enjoyment from, but it's not the be all and end all of action RPGs. Let the game appeal to your inner warmonger and play this to hack, slash, pillage and hopefully have some mindless fun!

People will ALLWAYS look at the bad side of things, in almost every new anticipated game. I've played the first and second titles of this game, and still has them and even play them from time to time. Diablo 3 compared to the previous titles is pretty equal to me. Why? Because the CORE soul of what makes diablo game a diablo game is still kicking and living! Yes, it has his downsides like DRM and temporary server issues and some bugs for dessert, but it is still diablo and it is still addictive like hell! I've played over 70 hours and got to inferno difficulty. You start from Normal difficulty, getting used to game mechanics: piece of cake. As you progress throught the difficulties and story, and gets harder and more rewarding, up until inferno which you can get killed from 2 hits. The story, character development, cinematics, and skills are amazing! i would advise to listen to every dialog and commentary that there is in the game. And at the button line: I was mad at the servers. I was mad of the DRM system. But even with all this, i saw what diablo 3 has to offer. and i smiled. And you, If you love H&S games/Rpg games/ or you a fan of diablo series, GO BUY IY. you will NOT be sorry. Expand

Recommendations - don't buy it in Australia at the Aussie price - at peak hours you may not be able to play the game you paid for or it will lag sooo much you will smash your computer in frustration. Wait for Torchlight 2 at half the price and double the fun. If the game was playable wih decent server support then score would be 6/10 but after buying a game I would like to play it and I can't. Might be ok if another company did this too me but Blizzard should give us better with their multiplayer history and amounts of money from making the game.

Underwhelmingly awful. The game is repetitive and boring and doesn't carry-through the darker undertones of Diablo II that somehow made this type of gaming interesting. I was placed on a different server to my friends but was not warned of this - this meant later after we'd started, we couldn't join-up and play with our characters.

A lot of parts of the game feels untested (especially Inferno) . Class balance is non
existent, few classes is making insane amounts of gold by farming inferno act 3-4 while other cant earn a dime , progress beyond act 1. Itemization seems vastly inferior to one in Diablo 2.

They ruined this game with cartoon like characters, bad music, recycling stupid ideas (and 3d stuff) from WoW and removed perks that most of the old players loved. I just expressed my review on the game and I don't want even talk about this bloody feature about being always on. Bad. Bad. BAD!

The conclusion? I had the honor of testing torchlight 2 beta and is way more fun and similar to the original diablo verve.

I remember playing the original Diablo and being utterly blown away by the between game animations, and the same for WOW. Okay DRM is a pain and the servers died a few times in the beginning. But I'm not going to mark the game against these, it seems to be the way most things are heading these days. It seems very much that the game engine isn't a million miles away from WOW, and uses a lot of the same graphics which in itself isn't such a bad thing as Blizzard always carry these things of with style, regardless of the cutesy graphics. However, the cutesy graphics do mean the atmosphere is not as oppresive as it was in the original games - it definitely loses something. Just to quickly cover the basics - Diablo is a game in which you run around dungeons and kill lots of critters. The main story is of a battle between heaven and hell and you basically level up until the story takes you to the Lord Diablo himself, who has rather rudely gate crashed the eternal realm. There are lots of weapons and armour drops all the way through and really the main crux of the game is in finding bigger and better armour and weapons. Once you start playing online with other players, the level of drops soon ramps up, as well as the difficulty level of the monsters.
Now as this is Diablo 3 you cannot review the game without comparing it to it's predecessors, the same as if you were reviewing a film, and for me this is where the game falls down. The rather high scoring critic reviews suprise me because the fact of the matter is that this game seems to have gone nowhere. It used to be a simple hack and slash click-click-click game, with a variety of spells or actions, and plenty of loot items to pick up - including scrolls, which are one off spells to casts. It is still a simple hack and slash click-click-click game except LESS variety in spells/actions and no scrolls anymore. It feels very much like the game has been dumbed down for the masses. And the thing is, it's been 10 years. TEN. That's an awful long time to spend failing to progress. And on the side Blizzard already have WOW, so they have an absolute wealth of suitable graphics to use and a wealth of experience in fantasy games. They seem to have played the hand towards nostalgia rather than innovative gaming.
So I would have to admit to being somewhat gutted about this game. It isn't awful, it just isn't new. And from an absolute powerhouse like Blizzard, I expect much more in terms of innovation and creativity, and I certainly don't expect them to move backwards in terms of complexity being as the first two games were not complex. And sadly it does seem to me that Blizzard are becoming more of a money making organisation than a serious developer of top quality games, especially after announcing their real money auction house. It is that great travesty of business and advertising - it ruins everything it comes into contact with. And Blizzard are slowly turning into a business enterprise, not a game developer. Many of the user reviews are scathing hit backs at the painful DRM system (meaning you cannot play single player without being online), which is perfectly understandable as it makes no sense to be online when you want to play by yourself. But I am much more upset about the lack of progress since Diablo II. Whoever came up with Diablo in the first instance was an absolute genius, and it was an amazing game. Whoever got hold of the license and created Diablo 3 should have doubled that genius with more involving and complex gameplay - they already had a great engine to work with! Instead, they seem to have lazily rehashed the game. It is addictive, that can't be denied, but if it was a piece of homework it would definitely have 'see me' written on it in red writing.

    3. Auction house where rare items are too common and cheap, enabling you to equip your character in yellows in all slots and steamroll the gameplay.
    4. Real money AH...why? Adds nothing to the game but is the justification for always-on DRM and earns greedy Blizzard even more $$.

As someone who enjoyed Diablo 2, LOD, and looks back at the Diablo series as something that had a big impact on gaming... I can't help but feel let down by Diablo 3. This is NOT the game we were waiting for, but it's still probably worth playing.

Getting the negatives out of the way:
Diablo 3 has suffered from technical problems out of the gate that persist even now. You're much less likely to suffer a major bug, or get disconnected from the game now, but the experience still is much more lag ridden then it should be, and using the auction house is a chore of frustration. Progression sometimes requires better equipment, and acquiring such equipment from the AH can sometimes take much longer than it should, as I deal with broken search filters, timeout errors, and other issues that plague the AH currently. The whining on these issues IS somewhat legitimate, and it affected my score of the game, although, you're not going to see me give it a 1, just because the AH gave me an error instead of my shiny new 2H weapon.

The story is, in a word, terrible. There were several points where I felt that it was too obvious what was going to happen yet, what a party member's secrets were, and all the characters are pretty shallowly developed and transparent. I've dealt with a lot of weak plots before, but this is one that's bad enough that it actually hurts the experience a bit. Without giving away spoilers, I was particularly frustrated with the character Leah, and her plot arc. The new hirelings are worthless. I'll just get out with it and say it. They're worthless. They suffer AI issues, such as not healing you when you're at 2 HP and the spell's off cooldown, charging into terrain, and other idiocy, but they're also just very weak in general. Is my enchantress attacking something? I can't tell, because even after giving her the best equipment I'm able, she does so much less damage than my player character, that it's difficult to tell if she's doing anything at all.
    - The lack of usefulness of the mercenaries is a failure, since they would have offered a good deal of flavor as a boon to your character.

There is no character customization (for looks).

Difficulty ranges from laughably easy to BS hard... You might be either falling asleep 2 shotting everything in sight without any fear of death whatsoever, or trying not to be 1 shot by nearly unkillable rare spawns. For example, at higher difficulties, you might face a mob that shields itself becoming immune to damage (until the shield drops), pins you in place from a distance, teleports to your location, and 1 shots you through all your defensive abilities. It'll kill you 10 times before facing a boss fight, where you never feel any sense of danger, and ease through it like it's nothing. It's very frustrating.

Items are another concern. Blizzard made progress between Diablo 2 LOD and WoW, adding in features like bind on equip, and bind on pickup, to help control item rarity. They're missing in Diablo 3, resulting in too many listings of "Legendary" items on the AH. Worse, they added random modifiers on the Legendaries, making them inferior to good rare items that got lucky rolls on their modifiers, and the vast majority of the rare items are trash. If a rare or even a legendary drops, there's no sense of excitement, as you realize that the likelihood of the item actually being useful is quite low. Since everything is soo sooo random, selling items can be difficult. I had a hard time determining if items for other classes were actually good or not, since rare modifiers range from really good to absolute trash.

    For my neutral opinions:

The difficulty level between nightmare and hell is more acceptable. Rare packs with a few rough modifiers can make for fun fights. Blizzard has made progress with the disconnect problems, and the skill system, while taking a bit to get used to, offers flexibility with your character. Think of it as a watered down Guild Wars system.

It's easy to group up with a friend, and jump right to where they are in the action. If it wasn't for hacking issues, this would be a generally good feature, which unfortunately, should be turned off at the moment.

The game's art is slightly above average. Environments have this sort of dark watercolor look to them. Cut scenes are pretty, and there's decent production values all round, as far as standard things like voice acting. It's a decent looking game for sure, but environments can feel a little too copy pasted in places... making things feel dated sometimes. So overall, I give the graphics and production values a pass, even though I'm NOT impressed.

    For my positives...
The cut scenes are pretty? I'm actually struggling a little to think of what Diablo 3 does right... consistently... I got nothing.

It's AMAZING to me that the metascore from critics on this game was 89. Guess journalistic integrity is out the window.

The only increase you will get is blue and useless yellow items. They actually tried to promote that there is no limit to the magic find hinting that Diablo 2 was limited.

You will be around second act of hell mode when you realize you are 58-59 under geared and that the experience dulls because of the level cap of level 60 when you have to grind 1-2 million gold per piece of equipment to be able to have any kind of fighting chance to make it to Diablo in act 4 hell. This actually would have been remedied if the level cap was 99 like it should have been, then you would be able to experience becomeing more powerful instead of struggling against thousands of bosses just to grind enough gold to buy 1 object in the auction house.

The story line was a huge improvement by about 1000 times, it's just a shame most of it is in books you need to pick up, which you will not pay attention to and only pick up for achievements.

Diablo 3 is the perfect example of Capitalism gone crazy to make sure that you 1. go back to WOW and keep paying $15 per month until the expansion comes out.

I have been waiting over 10 years for Diablo 3 to come out and they didn't even make it full 3D. I feel very upset and cheated that they only tried half way to make this game a wonderful experience yet underhandedly reserving 80% what it should be to pad their pockets later.

DO NOT purchase this game! it is a huge slap in the face to loyal Diablo fans and is only meant to make addicts of the next generation of players, while discarding the old school players.

The whole feel of the game is that you know some executive little weasel is sitting in a throne some where undermining everything wonderful about the original 2, setting a stage to make you buy expansions of long waits to unlock little pieces of what diablo should be in 2-4 expansions of years of wait, to make sure you go back to WOW and pay your monthly fee and get ready for the next expansion.

Level cap is too low, and there isn't much customization as far as skills go, your damage is determined by your DPS (damage per second) so if you are a wizard and you find a sword with + main stats + high dps then you would use that over a wand, you would think the lightning/cold/fire skills wouldn't be determined by the damage of a sword... but it is. All attacks do the same damage unless you have a rune activated that does more dmg, usually runes are useless, There is usually 1 good rune for each skill and the rest are just not worth it, okay maybe there could be 2 depending on the skill. This game was released WAY too early, I wish vivendi(pre activision merger) let blizzard north do what they do and develop Diablo 3 the way it was MEANT to be developed by the people who CREATED the game itself. I don't even feel like leveling my other characters since I cannot simply make them my own, I would have to play for hours and hours just to level, loot is pointless and they silently fix quests so they don't give very high amounts of experience so you cannot level that fast. I don't want to play this game again, you can rush but leveling to get to the difficulties is just zombie mind numbing since you won't really care about loot once you've already played through hell on another character, Diablo III would be a good game if it didn't have the Diablo name on it, if you want to spend $60 for a game named Diablo, created by developers of World Of Warcraft that has a poor loot system, no customization on skills, and is eventually dependent on an Auction House and doesn't really feel like a Diablo game then go for it. If you have never played Diablo prior to playing this and weren't a HUGE fan of the game and played it for countless hours then I would recommend this game, you'll probably enjoy it a lot more. I really wish blizzard would FIX this game and stop worrying about the auction house, and give us updates to EVERYTHING they do. I am going to seek a rebate for my copy, I had high hopes and now I feel cheated and robbed, this is a disgrace to Diablo. Expand

Lets be honest, this game is the successor to two of the greatest games in the history of PC gaming. It has some monstrously huge shoes to fill and it falls completely short of even remotely comparing to its predecessors in terms of quality and replay value. No more manual designation of character stats every level, no more skill trees full of synergies and possibilities, no more mountain of exciting gem damage type/rune word combinations to experiment with. There is no longer a real sense of choice in the game. You unlock every skill as you level (only a handful of which you will ever want to use) and you can change everything about your character at the drop of the hat, thus decisions carry no weight and lack any real sense of permanence. Because of the new skill setup you will only ever make one character of any given class and he will be virtually identical to every other character of that class out there. There is absolutely no point to making a second barbarian (saving blizzard plenty of money on server storage costs no doubt). You dont take any true pride in your build because it is not a unique and clever creation like the ones you made in D2. Finally, the auction house, short acts, and horrible drop rates suck any remaining fun out the slaughter. To all the individuals out there who are upset at seeing all these low scores, I'm sorry if this or other simliar reviews get under your skin, because I know I would be pissed if people where trashing a game I loved too. Just please keep in mind alot of these low scores are coming from people approaching the game from a very different perspective (borderline crackhead-obsessed diablo fanatic). Broken and not-fun endgame with having to be online for single-player makes for a bad game. The game's endgame could be repaired through patches, but without offline play I would still give it a low score.

Diablo3, Blizzard took the concept of Ball Throne room mobs, spread them out across the map, force players to fight mobs before reaching the big bosses, and even when you win, you had no guarantee that the drops were going to be good.

Diablo3, gave elites too much "annoying power" that forced players to kite mobs back to the entrance of the dungeon or around in circles. Playing co-op has its advantages and disadvantages. Sometimes you have a group with bad geared people who can't take down elites, sometimes you have one person who has good gear and the rest bad which always results in the good geared person leaving the game because he can kill faster in solo than in co-op, the last scenario is a game were everybody has good gear but the point is gear grinding is very dull and item rolls and augments are random meaning that 1/16 of the time you will get a level 60 weapon that has the +XP augment which is totally useless since the level cap is 60 anyway.

I was willing to see past the tired, rehashed look of Starcraft II - hey, the cut scenes are great, and there's a lot of interactive toys to play with between the missions that look like they were pulled almost directly from the original Starcraft. But I just can't find anything in Diablo III that would make it worth the 10-year wait, let alone the $60 price tag.

So, what's so wrong with Diablo III? Well, pretty much everything:

    * The graphics are pretty bad; even the "high quality" textures look like something from the original Diablo, the skew perspective means your character is pretty much guaranteed to be hidden from you at least part of the time (as are enemies and loot), and the gamma correction gives you a choice between "too dark to see anything" and "too dark to be playable with a light on in the room".

    * Gameplay is repetitive and dull. It's a clickfest, pure and simple. Click here, click there, kill an enemy, pick up some loot. Lather - rinse - repeat. Oh look! A new level... that's pretty much the same as the level you just finished...

    * Difficulty leveling is so badly broken it would be funny, if it weren't so tragic. After a long boring slog through hordes of enemies who couldn't harm you if you were to lie down and take a nap, you get to uberboss, who coughs and you fall over dead.

    * I can't tell if the soundtrack composer came from a background of 1970's horror flicks, and wanted to try composing for porn, or if they came from 1970's porn flicks, and wanted to compose for horror movies.

    * It's a client-server game, but Blizzard is only shipping the client. So, in addition to crappy graphics, crappy gameplay, and crappy music, you also get crappy lag, crappy disconnects, and truly crappy uptime stats. And forget playing unless you have a low-latency broadband connection. Even with a cable modem, you can expect stutters and random teleports.

    * It's a network-only game with no true single player mode, but Blizzard didn't include voice chat. Dubya tee ef?

Suffice it to say, this will be the last $60 Blizzard ever gets from me.

    Things they did wrong
    -----------------------------------
    1. DRM (you are required to be online 24/7 to play, even single player)

    2. Removed any customization with the skill tree AND Attribute tree (You are literally the same character as the millions others that play)

    3. The difficulty is a ****ing joke. A trained monkey could easily beat this game with ANY character.

    4. The auction house removes any desire/need to actually loot for awesome gear. (Acti-Blizz just milking it for more money after everyone realizes the games ****.)

    5. No more awesome 8 player nameable lobbies with PvP. (PvP has been scheduled to be released later on in a WoW like arena (****ing gay))

    6. The color scheme is ****ing ****ty as are the graphics for a game 12 YEARS in Development!!!!!!!!!!!

    7. The servers are a ****ing joke. I lag all the ****ing time on a rad ass connection so I know it's not me.
(makes trying to enjoy the single player a joke)

    8. The story itself is ****ing retarded. Lame cliches everywhere coupled with horrible voice acting leaves me vastly disappointed with, what was supposed, to be a game you could play solid and still enjoy for at least a month.

In summary, they have taken out the heart and soul of Diablo and replaced it with a Children's game. Don't indulge Activision or Blizz anymore...... I am personally boycotting these terrible game devs from now on. I encourage everyone who enjoyed Diablo 1 and 2 (Or good games) to do the same

While this makes customization almost a literal no-go, they replay value of the game is still pretty high. It's fun to try and beat the game on a higher difficulty setting (which gets pretty hard), and there are five very different classes to choose. And, despite you having no controls over what skills you learn, the skills themselves are numerous and interesting. All in all, Diablo III is a good game, it's just hampered by poor decisions that were probably made to "streamline" the game. If you try to please everyone, you only disappoint everyone. That' something I was aware of before I've bought and played the game. The reason is much simplier. The 100 hours of gaming were funny because of the friends I've played it and not because of the game. I've had more fun in games that were bascially worse than D3 just because I had the right people to play with and that's what good about Diablo 3, almost everyone has bought it so I could play with at least 2 friends all the time.
But why is it so bad?
Gameplay: First of all, the difficulty. Normal and Nightmare are just too easy, Hell felt like it was moving in the direction and Inferno was a total joke. Blizzard said, the difficulty will get harder because it's totally new feeling, every Mob and Boss will have new Skills etc. but that's not the matter. Story bosses have just more HP and damge depending on the difficulty and the same goes for Random Bosses but they got one more skill with every difficulty. Not new Skills, but just one of the same random Skills more. So the difficulty gets higher but in the wrong way. You don't need more skill or knowledge to kill those harder mobs but just better gear. Most of the time I died, I was thinking "Need more Gear" instead of "Oops I've made a stupid move". Other game like Demon Souls have shown that you can have a high difficulty that depends on Skill and not simply on Gear.

The classes are kinda imbalanced at the moment, ranged classes only need to upgrade their Weapons to get better gear while Melees need to finetune every single slot and still can't stay alive more than a second in melee combat at Inferno Act 2

Graphics and Sound: The Graphics are okay and I know that Blizzard wanted a timeless Style which most of the players can enjoy even with slower machines. It's okay when it works but I know so many people that have high end machines that are able to run every current game fine except for Diablo 3. Network and Online functionality: Joining a friend, playing with them, seeing their stats and everything else regarding online play is well done, except for the lag. Sometimes you are warping around like a hell. Dodging an attack and then warped back into it just to get one hitted is not fun. Hopefully they will work on it. The rest of the online funtionality works good.

Content: It's simply too short if you take into account that you have to play the same content at least 3 times to reach level 60. They promised a dynamic endless content system but I wouldn't call it really dynamic. After the 2nd playthrough I've felt like I have seen everything. Putting 2 possible Events in one zone, of which only one is available at a time is not really dynamic. If you reach Inferno you will look at the Auction House all the time or farm the same 10 minute content all over again before you can move on and kill those "more difficult" mobs.

If it weren't for the great online functionality AND my friends I would have given the game a 5/10 because it's actually nothing new or special and not as finetuned as a game like this should have been if you think about the long developement time and the big name behind it.

This is really worrying effect how critics are not having critical reviews only marketing speeches.

So lets get to the actual review played this game through with one character. Second play though with harder difficulty found game to be boring. As for even wanting to level any character again to level 60 whats the point in that skills come as progress levels. So there is no reason for that. This is mainly because really none of customization you can do talent or attribute wise its just all about gear you wear.

Also because they actually released "online or no play game" i keep getting constantly dc:t from game which actually shows how greedy this Blizzard company actually is. Game is just basically unplayable for those that get disconnected about every 5 mins to 30 minutes. I have actually done more tweaking to my security firewalls etc for this game than to any other games and it still has serious issues. Almost always when you actually try to get answers from technical support problems are on your side not their precious servers or product. They start "you could try..." its not consumers job to make game work. There should be some pride for game developers to make working game.

So good advice for all that are playing games around world never ever pre-order game, never buy those cheesy priced collectors editions or limited (luckily i did buy only standard edition) and most off all always wait about 6 to 12 months after release to get actually patched up game. Mainly never read what these so marketing critics write about game they tend to go overboard praising the series or company that made game.

In old good days of gaming we did not have DRM only cd-keys to check your games legality. All gamers suffer because too protective developers making every even single/ multiplayer games requiring internet connection. This game should had some kinda offline mode for that cannot have access to internet 24/7.

The list could go on, and on, and on. Diablo 3 is basically a bad joke created by Blizzard to the Diablo audience. To call it WoW free2play is not an exaggeration. That is literally what it feels like. Nothing in this game was designed with the end user in game, save to allow it to be "playable" (not likable) by as many players as possible and to extract as much cash from them as possible via the "Real Money Auction House", which by the way has been indefinitely delayed because the playerbase is tanking so hard right now that they realize they need to focus everything to save it. They're trying, but they will be unsuccessful. Blizzard has been _permanently cripppled_ by its long stint/focus on WoW. They _actually believe_ these things are actually fun, otherwise the game would not have been released with such horrible flaws. If they cannot see the problems, they cannot fix them. I have asked for a refund because I am actually offended at how bad this game is, and I encourage anyone who bought it to do the same.

Visuals aren't consistant, the actual gameplay graphics are cartoony. Sometimes there's a cutscene dialog box with an illustrated picture of the character next to it, like in a standard rpg from the 90's, then there's in game cutscenes with characters talking to each other. On top of that there are outstanding hyper-realistic cgi sequences, and then there are also these sketchy unfinished cutscene storyboard sequences as well, so basically there's 3 differnet art styles conflicting with each other and for me that just takes me out of the experience. Pick one and stick with it for the entire game. Overall the game lacks the gritty darkness and overall gore of diablo 2, and a lot of the areas from this game are rehashed form diablo 2 as well. Audio does the job and the music fits whatever act you're playing, but it doesnt respond to the action like in other games, and it doesn't really stand out even though its professionally done, it's not like you'll be humming the diablo theme song any time soon. So meh, the voice acting is strange at best, the in game chat sequences between your character and whoever it is who's following you are badly written, repeat themselves constantly and aren't very good overall.

The loot system is what most people play the game for but one of the best things about diablo 2 imo was the Horadric Cube which is missing from this game. Instead you get a artisian magic and rare weapons/armor and a jeweler for gems. The artisian will create items with random properties but a lot of the items he can make I wasn't even able to equip on my character, so I stopped using him after act ii and just used items I found on the ground instead. Also you have to play nightmare difficulty to start crafting higher grade gems, and that's really lame because the replay value just isn't there.

The story of the game is pretty lame by rpg standards. It has a few twists but you can spot some of them a mile a way and I stopped reading the cut scenes after the first act, I simply didn't care anymore, the story just doesn't cut it. Overall the game is lacking, its basically a lighter version of diablo 2, it uses a lot of same environments, characters, and monsters, with a story that isn't interesting enough to invest more than a single playthrough.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The leveling of characters through 60 in normal, nightmare, and hell modes is quite enjoyable, which is enough to keep players occupied for many hours. Unfortunately this game falls short in the end game, story, itemization, and lack of offline play.

The story itself is uninspired with terrible dialogue. Anyone who was a fan of the previous games will literally cringe at the death of Deckard Cain, who is killed by a character attempting to get him to reconstruct a magic sword for her master. How exactly was he going to do that while dead? Why does she leave without the broken sword allowing him to reconstruct the sword? Why did this scene only warrant terrible dialogue and no real cut scene? Why does she abduct Tyraal instead of Cain? It makes no sense, and like the rest of the plot, reads like it was written by a 12 year old. Inferno mode is tedious and not fun. It consists of massive damage boosts to all mobs resulting in 1 shots to most characters attempting to enter it. Act 1 is playable because the zombies which dominate the act are slow moving, but upon entering act 2 be prepared for constant and unavoidable deaths no matter how well you play unless you spend tons of time farming or pay to win in the new real money Auction House, which allows players to turn an already paid for game into a micro transaction game. This feels like a way to milk the players for cash after they already spent 60 dollars on a retail product.

The statistics for your character are poorly explained in the interface, and some of them are not even accurately displaying what occurs in the tooltip, resulting in players gearing the wrong stat. Along with the poor explanations of statistics the itemization for legendary and set items is so terrible that most players choose common blue drops for weapons instead of legendaries. It makes the attempt to acquire gear feel boring and stale because the most rare drops are not even close to the most powerful. Players should not have the best chance of finding good gear when they look through their bags and read all of the stats on their found items, they should be excited as soon as they see the color of the very rare drops on their screen.

One last problem is the lack of an offline mode. This game could easily be played as a single player game and the previous Diablo games from 12-16 years ago allowed players to still experience the game without their internet connection being active. This removal of a key feature is obviously done in an attempt to prevent piracy, but is done so at the expense of their own paying customers.

If you want a good hack and slash leveling experience and to try out the customization of all 5 character classes then you'll have fun with this game, but in its current state the vast majority of players will not want to play this game for more than a few months once they've had their fill of the overly punishing and more importantly tedious end game.

Enjoyable leveling and character customization but poorly designed end game, bland and poorly executed story, incorrect itemization choices and explanation of statistics, and the removal of offline play hold this game back from being anything but just another fun but flawed game. This should not have been the case from a company as highly regarded as Blizzard.

Story, gameplay, and graphics are mediocre- really uninspired.
Server issues and security issues should be an embarrassment to Blizzard, which has had more than enough time and resources to sort things out. Really shabby work and a waste of the Diablo name. Blizzard continues to disappoint.

Absolutely despicably blatant display of economics team dictating game design. The free replay value D2 offered through it's design was systematically taken away to support expansion packs and RMAH.

    5. End game video was pitiful for a diablo game. number of CG videos lacking.
    6. no real feel of improving. I've gone from 1500dps to 3000dps upgrade and there was none to little sensation of really destroying **** up. 7. Leveling and items seem to be fine drops are fine.
    8. music is lacking... i seem to notice only 3 songs...
    9. Audio doesn't work well with my 5.1 system... Every other game works fine. so this was depressing. And i never have audio problems with anythings. sigh.

I have asked for my money back as I get too mad for the 1000th time the game lags when im battling some mobs and im dead again.... and again.... yeah that's sure fun.

I love Diablo 2, 1, Starcraft 1, 2, big esports guy but third time is not a charm for diablo series 4/10. 60% of the fun was lost from playing this game now....

Don't buy it now... buy it when it's finished.... if you have to...

It would be nice to have definable presets that you could switch between. I laugh at the haters on here whining about it getting boring after 50 hours... 50 HOURS!! that's already way more than you can expect to get out of the current line up of non-MMORPG blockbuster titles. Itemization is terrible, the worst i have seen in an RPG to date, the game revolves around the RMAH (real money auction house) which is just terrible , as 98% of the randomly generated items are intentionally sabotaged in order to boost RMAH usage and corporate profits.

Pick it up if you like the story , but the replay value is small.... sadly I spent 100$ on the collectors edition , the contents of which were also rather skimpy .... the diablo skull that came with the box was so small and puny it .... its almost small enough to use as a key chain.

    Bad Item design
Good to OK story (not great)
Good visuals O and the pony level, I found it insulting , it does not fit in with the diablo franchise, they should of stuck to a cow level.... and kept with tradition instead of making a joke of their own game.

The story is so bad that I skipped half of it, didn't even care to go back and listen to it.

Graphics are poor quality, at least 10 year old xbox graphics, probably the time period they designed it. Blizzard's responce to it's fan base rants about how hard inferno is:
"We purposely made it harder then we could beat to change balance"
So we are beta testing infero mode.. WAY TO GO, I was in the real beta test, it was about 10 mins long, about 5 maps.

Maybe they should have had a real beta test on infero to root out these problems before release? I mean they had 12 years to balance it.. ROFL

Don't buy this game, wait for Torchlight 2, Diablo is ruined.

Any elite mobs come around and expect to die over and over again. Story is nothing to be excited about. Kept my interest in act 1 with the various twists and turns, but after that is standard Diablo fare. True, many different possible builds based on what skills you choose for your character, but item-wise, its all basically one build: stack main-stat and vitality. And pick the biggest stick as your weapon regardless of stat. Real Money Auction House still closed. In-game-gold Auction House still riddled with issues. Game seems to be built around the auction houses since its now very gear dependent. At the higher difficulty levels your choice of skills or kiting skills only help to improve the efficacy of your gear, instead of the other way around. In other words, with just average gear the game is impossible at higher difficulty levels. ALWAYS ON INTERNET required, even for single player. Which means if you're not living near their servers, expect lag. In Australia, lag spikes happen often enough to make hardcore mode impossible. Graphics is acceptable, nothing to get excited about. Giving this a 2 because it was at least kind of fun until you finish 3rd out of the 4 difficulty levels. Expand

My one major complaint is that the game never feels very difficult, especially on Normal. There are frustrating moments, hordes of baddies, and increasing difficulty levels, but the same feeling of utter defeat never really happens as it did in the past.

For all the game's missteps, though, you certainly can't accuse Blizzard of phoning it in - if anything, the game suffers from the tendency to try a little to hard at times to evolve the design. [Aug 2012, p.61]
