    Reskin with little change to original. All in all a good idea.

    Huge amounts of bugs. Rediculous server problems, game crashes at completely random times. Server queue wait times are a joke. Low queue number extreme wait time, followed by common failure to connect when complete or crash soon after getting onto server.

    No hope in sight.

    Great game..but you can't play it because servers are almost always dead. It od pathetic that you have to pay so much for this and you can only use it offline...I can't believe that Blizzard/activision has fallen so low that it can't even provide at least decent product anymore. Last time you took my money.

    1+ hour queue simulator made from 20 years ago. The server disconnects quite often and the game crashes multiple times a week.

    Absolute incompetence on the dev team. Implementing a queue system on a game that crashes every 30 minutes. Wait an hour to play, crash in a few minutes, then get to wait in another hour+ queue. Ridiculous and whoever decided this should not be in a leadership role.

    Do not buy this game right now. They remastered the graphics, not the actual platform they run it on. The game takes 30-40 minutes to login to during peak hours. Do not spend money on a game that you are not going to be able to play, give it a few months. Yeah, it is nostalgic, but it is just a farm simulator to the modern gamer.     The server issues have made the game unplayable on console with no communication from Blizzard. It's unfortunate but the game is only okay if you enjoy offline and even then it has some serious bad bugs with shared stash inventory disappearing.

    is only playable offline, there's a high risk to play online thinking every time u will get disconnected from the server, is so disgusting. plus that is a few bugs, no too critical but still...

    The game itself is great and looks very good. I have spent in the original Diablo 2 handreds of hours. And now after I purchased the remaster I have loved to play more. But I can't.

    Now it’s time for the bad news. Even on the newer console (Xbox series s) it runs into various problems, and we can get to the other systems here in a little bit. On the series s, it often runs into animation problems, there are many examples of this. The ghosts and spectres lose their colour/all ghost animation so they just look like floating bones, you can’t see any of your sorceress skills, pally skills, curses, etc which can ruin intense gameplay moments when you don’t know if you should be attacking or not because you don’t know if you are cursed. The only way to fix that was to restart the game, which used to be a easy-ish fix, now with the new queue patch they added, toss that out the window. Waits of 100-200 people, sometimes more, which have equaled almost an hour of wait time in some cases, result in extreme frustration. They also do not allow you to play your Sp account while you wait in queue, and for those who want to get in a Diablo experience while still waiting for the online mode to finally work again, this cannot even be the case anymore. Another common glitch that occurred to me is when I took a town portal, occasionally my game would crash. It never used to bother me that much but now with the introduction of the queue, it’s a prospect that fills me with gamer dread when I see my game accidentally crash, wondering how long it will be until I can get back in now.

    Now some problems with the older generation of consoles. None of them better hope to ever actually complete Uber’s at all. Also don’t even think of playing Hc because there are issues that are 100% not your fault. I’ve seen others connection interruptions kill their hc characters cause they can’t react before they drop. Also in regards to the Uber thing (this statement also applies to small condensed areas, with waypoints, temples, portals, etc) it used to be that your character was immune until you fully loaded, now your character loads in before you officially do, making you easy pickings for the monsters that are sometimes there. People are often dead before they are fully loaded in and given a chance to react, making many basic interactions (going through portals or down and stairs/level of dungeon) a interruption of gameplay rather then a smooth transitional one.

    This review I wrote entirely on my phone, I am not a fast Texter or typer on my phone and my grammar isn’t the best. Yet I was able to write this entire review, along with putting my phone down, going to wash some dishes, making 2 coffees and cooking some food, come back in a queue that started at 131 and still have 20 people in front of me waiting to get in. 7/10 if the game didn’t have the queue now and didn’t have connection issues before/now. The graphic fails was a letdown before, now with the queue it’s 10x worse. Also the fact with the older consoles not doing so well, + the servers and them not letting people making new games as fast and other stuff… I hesitate to give it a 1/10… I mean the last point defiantly belongs to VV and I can’t take that away from them, they deserve that much atleast :/ otherwise 0/10 cause the queue wait is one of the worse things ever    … Expand

    Cant log in, i dont understand how D3 characters can be played online and offline, but D2 dont have that option ... after 20 years ... its unnaceptable.     Don't buy this game, I can't log in to the game for an hour and a half because of the queue on the server. I wrote to the support service about a refund, was refused.

    Very good game if you played D2 twenty years ago.

    But, It's been 3 or 4 weeks I can't play (like so many others) because of connexions problems. If I want to play, I have to wait 1 hour and half every time. So I can't play and Blizzard refuse refunding because I have already played at the beginning.... What a shame...

    At first, a lot of server issues, and now it's nearly confirmed we'll have waiting queues forever which last also forever (and are as/more annoying than server issues).

    The graphics from the remaster are nice, that's why I put 1 point because the game is ruined by blizzard and the servers / old code from 2000s.

There are constant queues to connect to Battle.net, even if you get in you can expect frequent disconnects, switching characters generates an error making you restart the game and queue    Let's start with good things first.     Now, for the bad stuff. Sadly the game is practically unplayable. There are constant queues to connect to Battle.net, even if you get in you can expect frequent disconnects, switching characters generates an error making you restart the game and queue again. Moreover, there is a constant general lag in the game, much worse than 21 years ago, with monsters killing you through the walls, this kind of playful behavior. And do not even try to teleport around, you are bound to end up in a wall, crash the game, or randomly die! And the lobby is the worst of all, joining an actual game is nigh impossible. instead, you get one of the long list of errors when you try to connect to a game. Refreshing the game info doesn't work most of the time either, so if you want to see if the Baalrun-x-05 is an old game lasting 10 minutes or a fresh run you have to guess.

    If you are reading this do not buy the game. You will just end up like me: frustrated, tired, and angry at Blizzard. It has just been a huge waste of my time, ended up refunding the game. One positive thing can be said about the refund process - painless and fast.    … Expand

    Constant disconnects and random crashes (Especially after killing named enemies), ruins the flow of the game in a major way.

    Graphics are good and the legacy mode is a neat feature, but the stability is beyond atrocious.

It is truly bizarre, you can login at 4am EST and have a 500+ queue that takes hours to get in but you try prime time 8pm EST and it will be single digits. Something is fishy and queue is completely broke. Seems like they used the exact same server infrastructure as 20 years ago. But typical Blizzard fashion theyGame is generally good...     Blizzard = Scam Company... Should have know after WC3 Remake.. Basically bought a game for 40 bucks which is unplayable cuz of non existing servers.. Blizzard topped himself.. Refund is declined, i will never buy a blizzard title again.
    How will blizzard fix the servers issues? 2/3 of the buayers will give up frustasted after weeks and the rest can play halfway.. What a **** scamer company

    Amazingly good remaster. Stays very true to the original look and feel of the game, and yet the graphics are a million times better. Had a rocky launch but things are stable now.

    The login problems are gone just because players moved to New World.
    The character designer should be kept away from children and locked somewhere.
    Whoever was in charge to ship the game sued. Constant crashes/game doesnt save options.

    No offline mode, no LAN mode, no supportable for modding, only connect to online. Blizzard used all way to suck money, dont drop even a single coin out. One more thing, expensive price for a remastered game.

    EDIT: It's been 3 weeks of login server reboots, this is unacceptable. At least give me the option to use TCP IP, ****

    Despite some minor bug this is a worthy remaster, however this is not the re-imagining or re-balance some people expected.
    The graphics are beautiful and faithful to the original, I would give this a 10 if there weren't a few annoying bugs many days after the initial release.

    1. Character models - they lost all their strengths. Amazon as a beautiful and strong woman, warrior woman is changed to old and ugly poor woman aka Grandmazon/DaefoeZon. Beautiful assassin from east europe named Natalya replaced by ugly girl from asian village ;/. Massive, strong and vital Barbarian become a 50+ yo depresional alkoholic random guy. I loved Barb in D2, he was so so BIG and vital like Arnold in his peak time 80s (Hercules, Conan, Terminator), it was so awesome to watch this massive BIG piece of living muscles and boiling testosterone and how "it" smashing all these "poor" monsters :D my nostalgia is ruined ;( he lost all his strenghts and attributes in D2R. Paladin looks trash with this bizarre and distorted face and afro. Droot/Necro... they are neutral (not impressed, but overall OK). Sorc looks like she lost delicacy/fineness and virginity. In D2 she was a very interesting and speciffic MIX, she was young and delicate girl, full of charm, but also very powerfull with her elemental magic. She lost this MAGIC in D2R.
    I cant belive how they destroyed these character designs, how they disrespecting OG artists, how they removed all their strengths: young, strong, peak age, beauty and vital warriors from... KK a "night club" changed to old weak depresional rmd olders from rdm town streets... and out towns viallages. I cant belive how a rdm modders from reddit "resurrected" these characters to GLORY over 9k x better than big company like BliSSard. How DARE YOU BLISS! Shame, BIG SHAME!!!
    BTW characters are old, but their voices are still original so they all sound very young, pathetic :D
    2. Censorship - less gore, satanic symbolds, nudity etc. eg. Andariel is strongly censored compared to original, the same with girls in act 2 Harem ;)
    3. Movement animation and some skill animations: eg. Smite and Blizzard look very poor compared to original, even FOrb looks better in original.
    4. They made D2R based on 1.14 so game is unbalanced AF: caster meta, stupid and unbalanced synergies, boring AF Baal runs, Teleporting like crazy imba Paladins.
    5. Still terrible shared loot, it forces ppl to play alone, but on Hell mode monsters are immune to elements so it forces to play in groups, vicious circle. It also promote botters and rmt.

    Small minuses:
    - for multiplayer bugs and errors,
    - for not fully supported ultra wide 21:9 (19:9),
    - bad optimalization,
    - lack of some QoL like loot filters and skill tab for K/M,
    - some others... I cant remember now...

    PLUSES
    + cinematics look very good
    + overall graphic is good
    + overall sound and music quality is good
    + QoL: shared stash, auto gold, refresh in gamble and etc.
    + fixed WSG, WSM, EDEF and some other iritating bugs

    OVERALL 5.
    -1 for Amazon, -2 for Assassin, -1 for Barb, -1 for Sorc and -1 for Pala....
    and -1 for censorship, but +2 for audiovisual and cinematics.

    Original Diablo 2, even with the flaws of it, even with issues with the old installer, cheating online, etc. it was a game that at least demonstrated a "made by gamers for gamers" attitude, and it wasn't that politically correct game. The developer ignored issues religious folks, politicians had with the game, as it was a product made for us gamers.     I loved the original, but my biggest problem was server stability. They never bothered to fix their 20 year old servers. I was hoping the new one to work better. And sure, new online game always has issues. But its been two weeks since release, almost 3 at the time of writing, and servers are down every day for multiple hours. On top of that there are random crashes, rollbacks. This is ridiculous.

    Si ce jeu était un jeu original sorti à 40 balles, il aurait été cloué au pilori et n'aurais pas eu plus de 5 sur 20, pour l'effort d'avoir essayé.

    Mais en tant que remaster (et sans s'attendre à un remake non plus), on s'attendrait à légèrement plus que simplement mettre un nouveau mode graphique, une compatibilité sur manette qui ne marche qu'à moitier... et... c'est tout.
    Je vais donc le noter au prorata ("proratage" dirais-je même plus) du prix par rapport aux noms de fonctionnalités : 2/40.

    EDIT : Je viens de penser que je n'ai même pas parlé du fait que l'interface clavier/souris n'avait pas changé d'un poil, quelle honte de n'avoir même pas appliqué les bonnes idées de l'interface manette...

    EDIT2 : J'aimerais rajouter 2 éléments :
    - L'outil de respé a finalement été réintégré, mais n'est plus disponible qu'à la fin du jeu, et demande pas mal farmer, pourquoi pas.
    - Les notes des utilisateurs sont assez unanimes : 4.8/10 sur MetaCritic, 2,9/10 sur GameKult, 10,4/20 sur JVC (5,2/10 pour aider à la comparaison des notes sur 10). Bon, ce n'est pas un complot du 15-18, y'a vraiment une couille dans l'potage d'après les joueurs.    … Expand

Today I was in queue for 2 hours, then failed to connect, put back in queue for 2 more hours, then failed to connect again (about 50% chance), then put back in queue.     You fight an enemy for the promise of more runes drop than anywhere else, you can't teleport cause you don't have said runes, so you tediously walk in hordes of useless mobs that drop nothing but can almost kill you at every step, when you get to the boss, you spam your hammers like crazy only to realize you are not in that location and enemies are not dying. Suddenly after 5+ seconds you get teleported in another location and there is fire and **** under you so you die quickly. Now you have to get your corpse back, your mercenary is **** even d3 mercs are stronger, unless you pay tons of money or have pure luck and get 1-2 ultra rare runes. So you can die 100 times like I did at Baal finishing hell finally, trying to get your corpse, while your merc ignores monsters and pretends not to see you are getting hit. Immune enemies, immune to everything or at least 3 elements, to make sure your character can't kill them.

    I have the best internet in the world, 1 Gbps for over 10 years, never crashes, 40 ping, still lags and bugs out and gets stuck all the time. Fantrash be like "only way to play is hardcore" hahahahahahahaha, **** off and die with your game.

    Stay away from this, it's already cracked, so basically all the benefits minus the lag and wasting money.
    Sets and uniques are all garbage. Unless you get those 1-2 specific good ones for your character.
    At least in D3 you can farm up with the worst set and get to a decent location where you can farm, and by farm I mean ACTUALLY BEING ABLE TO DODGE PROJECTILES, SPELLS AND EVEN MELEE, IN ORDER TO ACTUALLY GET DECENT DROPS YOU CAN DISENCHANT, why is there even gold in D2 is beyond me. To ****ing lose it when you die, lose 1/4 of all your gold, even tho you can hide your gold in your shared tabs, but nah, let's still make them lose gold. You could drop it on the ground but the ****ty small indie company servers might **** you and you crash and lose it all. Or it might just disappear for some reason.

    Horrible game, outdated mechanics, for morons and fangays. Enemies that explode and take 99% of your life for no reason, because armor doesn't exist, just "dodge" lmao. At least you no longer instantly die to elite packs when you kill them, like I remember in the old D2. But enemies and yourself can hit enemies in MELEE from 5m away, cause **** logic and lag or basically the creatures are bugged.

    The only reason people love this so much is nostalgia, back when there was nothing better to play. And we had low expectations.

    VV knocked it out of the park. They did a fantastic job. They should be very proud of what they did.

    As for the server issues, as an online, single player ... player, I have had few issues in the last month. The outages were merely an short inconvenience.

    I played Diablo 2 at original launch back in the 90s and remains one of my favorite games but this game just has not aged well at all, Even though the remastered textures and graphics are good, and a few minor quality of life tweaks there remains significant issues and new issues that really hurt the overall experience but what really hurts the experience is the sloppy launch with terrible servers and a really unstable client that constantly crashes.

    Also, people have to realize this game is 20+ years old and isn't something you can get instant gratification from, the 'rush' to hell mode and loot runs in D2R has significantly more problems than vanilla.

    Like the original, the game is heavily based around BAAL runs, the general flow of the game is to rush to BAAL then repeat until you level, then repeat on a higher difficulty and rush to BAAL and repeat until you hit the 90s then the amount of experience required becomes so ridiculous into the billions that it becomes so boring and you literally require a full group in order to get any meaningful experience.

    1) The addition of controllers are making it waaay to easy for loot thief's to spam A to insta-pick up loot on boss runs, its basically just spam that button and grab loot, this is almost as bad as the auto-pick up hack back in the day, honestly ~ this is a major oversight. Basically, it goes like this ~ on baal runs you can literally run right next to Baal and as he's about to die, you mash button A and grab all the loot...as long as no one else is doing the same, this makes people using mouse have a massive disadvantage.

    2) Server instability is still a problem, many of the issues should not have happened considering this is the same engine, with just a few minor things removed like TCP/IP so the server problems shouldn't have been so bad, and still are causing issues joining/creating games even several days after launch. The game will be playable but expect significant downtime on server or login issues.

    3) The D2R client is EXTREMELY unstable and is prone to crashing ALOT, the game crashes very frequently often just without any explanation..just crashes to desktop, this happens to everyone.

    4) Hackers already ruining the experience, and at ladder launch will destroy any legitimacy. I've already seen one level 99 hardcore Sorceress in FULL Tal Rasha set, which I call completely BS on that after just two weeks from launch? Seen a bunch of regular Level 99s too. Not to mention pickit hacks are already rampant, Blizzard you need to start BANNING.

    5) They had a chance to redesign and fix some of the worst issues with the game, such as the horrible Belial boss fight which is notoriously bad and some classes have a nearly impossible struggle to solo forcing them to group up just to beat the boss...same with several other bosses which for some classes really struggle, class balance has always been a bit of an issue, especially with Sorcs.....and if you can't group up, you have to do a mindless grind to overlevel/overgear and brute force your way past certain bosses.

    6) Just 3 days after launch, hackers and dupers started to become a problem meaning Blizz did not really increase security or anti-cheating detection really at all, several known DUPES are still a huge problem especially with Gems and Runes.

    7) Lobby is still awful, needed a desperate overhaul and it didn't get it. Difficult to find games you want to join, the list often refreshes itself on a whim so if you see a game you want to join, sometimes it'll just disappear on you before you can click join, only to reappear later. Really need keyword searches to be added and other filters so you can look for specific quests or runs to join.

    8) The addition of horrendously bad queue times, often means you could literally be waiting up to an hour, if not even longer at times just to play the game and if your client crashes or you get kicked off, then you have to re-queue, this is just absurd especially when a vast majority of people are using pindlebots and essentially are logged in 24/7.

    9) This is basically the exact same as you remember Diablo 2, the good.....and the bad, many of the old glitches, exploits and frankly terrible design decisions are all intact, coupled with many terrible patch ideas that nerfed most of the original Diablo which heavily limited builds and destroyed classes like barbarians and amazons which got hit with huge nerfs and now, are very limited in builds that are hell viable.

    In closing, Diablo 2 is a great OLD game with a fresh coat of paint and it looks great, and feels exactly like how I remember but this game just has not aged well at all, couple that with all the server problems and client stability make for a very frustrating and aggravating experience.    … Expand

    Never before have I been so insulted, Blizzard in 2021 is a disaster. I hope Blizzard understands the reason for sending out the 340 000 emails that we have sent out to our subscribers informing them of our councils vote regarding the closure of all our chapters.

    -The game does not launch. The game doesn’t work.
    -I bought a $3500 computer specifically for this game, my computer is too advanced to run the game.
    -The servers delete all your characters. The servers cannot save your games.
    -An extreme level of bugs, the rubber banding bug is out of control (the game rewinds 3 seconds every 9 seconds)

    Rubber banding refers to the abrupt bounce back players see when their characters become desynched from the server. A player directs their character to another location, before the character abruptly bounces back to their starting point. This is a very frustrating and potential fatal problem, as players think they are escaping danger, only to suddenly pop right back into it.

    Fun factor rating:
    0/10 (This game will destroy my mental health and is a total disaster).

    This game should be renamed to: Diablo 2 Refunded. It has perhaps the worst server issues ever seen in the gaming industry.    … Expand

    Knowing that you can lose all your progress out of the blue is effectively making this game unplayable, and I'm lowering my score to the lowest possible amount to reflect my dissatisfaction.

    Original review:

    True to the original, in a bad way.

    Diablo II was great back in the days, but gaming has evolved a lot since then and some concepts have since been abandoned for a reason. Blizzard had the chance here to make some great and well needed gameplay improvements to make the game live up to today's standards, but instead chose to cater to all the whiny fanboys out there who start crying the moment something isn't exactly the way it used to be.

    Here are a few annoyances:

    1. The inventory is ridiculously tiny. With no way of expanding it, you're forced to either skip most of the loot you find or teleport back and forth to town extremely often.

    2. Ranged ammunition is expendable, and a single stack of arrows/bolts take up roughly 10% of your total inventory space.

    3. Potions are single use and each take up one slot in your inventory. There's also no way to move potions automatically from the inventory to your belt (where they must be in order to use a hotkey for them), so you have to move them manually, one by one.

    4. Stamina is limited and runs out very quickly, forcing you to walk at a snail's pace while it slowly recharges.

    5. Gamepad controls are subpar. Diablo 3 worked great with a controller, but in this game, you're forced into using a cursor that you move around with the thumbstick. Considering the amount of inventory management in this game, this is a major issue.

    6. You drop all your gear when you die. Unless you're keeping an extra set of equipment in your inventory or stash for these occasions, you'll have to fight any enemies you encounter during your corpse run in the nude.

    Every single one of my gripes about Diablo II: Resurrected are a matter of gameplay mechanics that should have been improved but haven't. If they'd just given us a bigger inventory, unlimited stamina and ammunition and some slightly better gamepad controls, this would've been a great remaster. Now, it's highly mediocre and I find myself lacking the motivation to continue playing.    … Expand

    The new graphics make the game playable in our day and age but the price is way too high.
    Starcraft remastered was 14.99 euro, why does Diablo 2 resurrected had to be 40euro is beyond me. I own the original copy of Diablo 2 lod why can't i just get an upgrade for a reasonable price, 40 euros is almost a full triple-A new game price. will wait    Played the game and sadly had to refund it.

    Server crashes/down on daily basis. Huge random rollbacks deleting days or even more than week of character progres wiping out XP and farmed gear with nothing more than "deal with it" from blizz staff. They are even deleting posts and silencing authors for reporting issuess on their forum. AVOID this game and Blizzard games overal.

    Game doesn't work at all.
    Servers are always down.
    For the few hours a day when they are not down the game crashes, you are not able to create or join games or you have hours long queue. They destroyed Warcraft III with reforged and now they destroyed Diablo II with resurrected. Blizzard is pretty much just a troll company at this point.

    I can't even get the game to start. Push the play button and it says loading game, then playing then back to nothing. Lots of people on the forum complaining about the same thing. There are lots of other launch problems, people loosing their characters and lots of other stuff, but I can't even experience that because it won't even load.     I know a lot of people don't like the woke culture, the **** launch w/ servers, but I hate the 0 bombing... I love the game thus far. I never play games on launch date, so maybe that is why I'm less frustrated than most. Anyways, this takes me back to when I was a teenager. The graphic upgrades are phenomenal. Gameplay is great. Love it.

    Bad game port with lots of issues. Aside from this, the IP is owned by a company with anti-democracy and misogynistic track records. Is this really where you want to put your money?
    Vicarious Visions also decided to take the money from them over morality, so they should be avoided going forward as well.

    Diablo II: Resurrected is far from perfect. The changes in character design are likely to rile up returning players, and the archaic gameplay probably won’t agree with younger generations weaned on more streamlined, sophisticated experiences. While I appreciate that this legendary title is now available in an improved format, it’s not a caveat-free recommend.

    Diablo II returns with refreshed graphics and unaltered gameplay (apart from some small improvements). It’s as fun as I remembered, so I quickly felt at home and gave in to nostalgia. However, it’s hard not to notice that beneath revamped visuals lies a 21 years old design. [12/2021, p.32]
