A brilliant tale of terror, even if the ride is a little old and clunky.

Amnesia: Rebirth is definitely both better and worse than SOMA. In an attempt to blend the best of Amnesia: The Dark Descent and SOMA something went inevitably missing, nevertheless Frictional Games is back with one of the greatest survival horror games in so many aspects.

Amnesia: Rebirth is an excellent example of how to build tension, and the vulnerability Tasi feels throughout never gets any easier. There are great puzzles and a well-written story that keeps you gripped until the end.

Amnesia: Rebirth beautifully tackles the battle between light and darkness, not just thematically but mechanically too. The areas where it clicks strike an excellent balance of problem solving and pure adrenaline, even if some of the later sections drag due to uninteresting puzzles and infrequent ghoul tussles. But with a consistently engaging story throughout, Rebirth still stands as one of the most thrilling survival horror games in recent memory – one that is anything but forgettable.

Despite some boring locales and an over-reliance on the darkness just for the sake of it, Amnesia: Rebirth is an excellent horror game with some fun puzzles, well-written characters, and genuinely terrifying moments.

Though its scares don't reach the heights of the original, Amnesia: Rebirth remains a must-play horror game for delivering a story more akin to a brilliant novel.

With a tighter script and more polish, this could've been a fantastic game that paralleled the trauma of child loss to the evil enterprise of colonial expansion. Instead, it's one that insincerely mines trauma from a colonizer's perspective... then asks you to do a half-hearted physics puzzle.

The improvements taken from SOMA are evident and the immersion is better than in any of their games. FG's choice of a female protagonist works very well with the story, and in fact adds the much needed emotional element which I thought was lacking in Amnesia The Dark Descent. The voice acting by Alix Wilton Regan is top notch and I can't emphasize this enough because to replace a silent protagonist from the first game with a speaking one is a risky move and Alix nails the part. I recommend that all survival horror fans give this one a go. Show your support for Frictional Games; they deserve every bit of it. Expand

So far frictional Games´ best work in terms of quality but this one probably wasn't as scary as their other work so people are upset. I would still recommend it though. My friend literally was paralyzed at some point in the game so everybody has a different experience. I had low expectations for this game but I was positively surprised.

You really have to give this game a shot for yourself.

If you play this then expect it to slowly build and tell a story. If you come expecting a game you're going to play just to get through or rival the scares of their previous efforts then maybe this one isn't for you.

    Pros,
Interesting and engaging puzzles and lighting mechanics. (if your character sits in the dark too long then you have to struggle succumbing to the darkness and slowly become a monster.

Graphics may be their best yet.

I didn't encounter and bugs or frame rate stutters throughout the game as it is well built.

    Cons:
does drag a bit at first and towards the end.

The scares are a bit weaker than previous titles (this was done on purpose.)

    Great story, immersion, and puzzles.

Amnesia Rebirth is a game worth playing that makes you feel immersed in a story carefully written full of wiredness and with a main character that feels real and makes you feel compassion for her. You experience the danger and the uncertainty that you encounter at every step taken.

Amnesia Rebirth is an experience more than a game, the gameplay isn't hard, to have the most out of it you must let you immersed in the story and put you in the shoes of the character.

What makes this game great is Tasi, the main character that has an identity and talks frequently and puts your perspective of the world in a subjective view from the eyes and mind of the Tasi.

The graphics and performance are great, I had not encountered any bug during my playthrough, everything works well and do not ruin the immersion.

In conclusion, is a game worth playing. Not touching the greatness of SOMA on the story side, but delivers a good experience.

I was really hoping it would hold up to the first amnesia given its the same devs but it just missed the target IMO. Art/Sound/Environment is top-notch but the rest is well below sub-par - The price is the only reason I'm giving this a higher score if not it would be a 2-3 Expand
