Wow, this game was bad. You want an Amnesia game that forgets about everything that made the first one amazing? You want an Amnesia game where the main character constantly talks and ruins the immersion? Then Amnesia: Rebirth is for you.

It seems that people are somewhat split on this game, but from what I’ve seen and discussed pretty much everyone generally thinks the opening to the game is bad. Me? I think it’s the worst opening to a game, period. The main character never stops talking and the game is constantly interrupted by unskippable flashback sequences one after another, sometimes not even 3 seconds apart!
The game tries both too hard and too little to make you like the characters around you. Too hard with all the constant flashbacks, too little because the writing and dialogue is just, in the end, meaningless and has no character development.
The main character is boring, annoying and generally unlikeable. (And selfish as well in the later part of the game) And you’re stuck with her for the next 9 hours.
The puzzles were good, not as good as the Dark Descent but I still enjoyed them. The rest of the gameplay however is just plain annoying. You have matches and an Oil lamp as your sources of light and both of these run out ridiculously fast, I’m talking 3-5 seconds for the matches and maybe 20-30 seconds for the Oil lamp when it’s FULLY LOADED with oil.
Amnesia: Rebirth has a “fear meter”, it’s like the sanity meter in Dark Descent except worse in every way. If the room you’re in is just a bit dark, not even completely dark, then you IMMEDIATLEY start to breathe fast and within seconds you start to panic and have to spam W A S D and move the mouse around to get back up on your feet. This becomes an issue when you’re hiding from a monster, obviously you want to turn off your oil lamp and hide in a dark corner or something but the game forces you to have the oil lamp on or light a match unless you want to start having a panic attack on the floor.
Speaking of the monster: there’s barely any monster encounters! I can remember two. Two in the entire 9-hour game. The rest of the (very few) encounters were scripted.
The ending isn’t anything special either you feel so empty at the end after spending 9 hours listening to someone constantly explaining how they’re feeling and thinking. You never get to be scared or react to something, it’s always the main character that does it for you.

In conclusion: The puzzles are good, the general gameplay is bad and the immersion is non-existent.
It’s shocking and sad to see Frictional Game go from Amnesia: The Dark Descent and SOMA to… This. I still very much respect their work and adore them because it’s obvious a lot of care, passion and talent went in to this game, but it just doesn’t work. If you’re in the mood for some Amnesia I recommend you just replay The Dark Descent or give SOMA a try if you haven’t already.

I refuse to think this one as part of the Amnesia series. The story is much less ambiguous and it is agenda driven. The developer also tries to break stereotypes by creating more absurd stereotypes. None of the characters felt real or relatable and at times they were outright insufferable. There is no chemistry between the protagonist and her husband. They made him so insecure that she needs to keep reassuring him she loves him the way he is so many times.

Also some of the mechanics didn't make sense at all: She can only carry 10 matches and she can't pick up any of the candles or torches cause they are superglued to the ground. Everything else you can pick and throw around no matter how heavy. There are almost as many letters left around as Gone Home, they should have found more diverse ways to convey the story. I also found a letter that was written in German, I speak German so it's not a problem for me, but what will the other people do? google translate? Don't even start with how she starts to melt if she stays under the sun for five seconds and starts going crazy if she stays in the dark for more than five seconds...

As for the graphics, they are out of date even for 2020, and game is locked at 60 fps maximum where 144hz monitors are the basic for gaming these days. , The cinematics are images with voice over which is lazy or cheap in my opinion.

Amnesia Rebirth is an experience more than a game, the gameplay isn't hard, to have the most out of it you must let you immersed in the story and put you in the shoes of the character.

What makes this game great is Tasi, the main character that has an identity and talks frequently and puts your perspective of the world in a subjective view from the eyes and mind of the Tasi.

The graphics and performance are great, I had not encountered any bug during my playthrough, everything works well and do not ruin the immersion.

In conclusion, is a game worth playing. Not touching the greatness of SOMA on the story side, but delivers a good experience.

I am a huge fan of everything Frictional - Penumbra, Amnesia: The Dark Descent, Machine for Pigs, SOMA etc. So it pains me to rate this so low. I was SO excited for this game. I was let down.

I was just expecting more. Perhaps it is because I am neither a parent, nor a woman, but the entire base-conflict of this game seems completely avoidable. All Tasi had to do was give up her already-doomed-to-die child and everyone would be saved. Instead in her selfishness, she chooses to keep the child, knowing full well what can and has happened to her kin before. At the loss of every other crew member's life. Including her own. So I just can't understand why she would choose for everyone to perish, instead of just her child being separated from her, albeit alive and somewhat-well. She wasn't aware in the beginning when she met Tin about how or through what ghastly methods the life of her baby would be sustained through, and she coulda easily gone back to Paris and made a new baby that would suffer the same fate as her first one.

I just can't understand this conflict. The story seems like its missing something. There was no great twist like SOMA or Machine for Pigs. No mind-boggling mythical yet still mostly explained and understood plot like TDD.

It just seems forced. Uninspiring. Unrelatable. Even a little Social-Justice-Warriory.

The gameplay is similar to previous Frictional games though the fact the oil lamp seems to have a hole drilled through the bottom doesn't make sense either. Gameplay wasn't new or altered very drastically from previous Frictional products but that didn't bother me. I enjoyed playing it, but the storyline was very meh.

However, I did love the fact that they explained many pre-TDD events and found that fascinating. When I entered the tomb, I knew right away this was canonical and I would find bits and pieces about Daniel therein. This was perhaps my favorite level. I also liked how Alexander of Brennenburg's beginnings are referenced.

The enemies were still spooky and this got my emotions moving. The puzzles were a lot of fun as well, though I wish there were more opportunities to make outcome-altering choices.

Sadly these three pros just don't outweigh the massive con I started this review with. The entire conflict could be explained away in the very beginning. Nobody would have to have died, the child lives, the empress is happy, Tasi can go back and make a new baby with all her crewmates still themselves. Flimsy. Avoidable. Disappointing. Forced.

That said I'll still recommend it. These puzzle-survival-horrors are a great deal of fun. I'll just recommend pretty much every Frictional game before I'd recommend this one.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Penumbra is good at still stands up to this day. Amnesia: The Dark Descent is a complete masterpiece. SOMA is the top of the hill. And then came Amnesia: Rebirth.

It's completely unbelievable to me that Frictional Games even CONSIDERED making this game in the first place, not to mention releasing it. The setting is terrible, the protagonist I couldn't less than a flying f about, and ALL she does it talk to herself - making it impossible to immerse yourself in the world.

Constant cheap and terribly placed jump scares whenever you're in the darkness for a long time. Amnesia: The Dark Descent handled the whole sanity thing great. Rebirth handled it in a manner where it's almost laughable how Frictional Games couldn't come up with something better.

The goddamn flashbacks you can't skip. I can't even find words to tell you how incredibly frustrating they were after a while. If you're gonna have flashbacks, at least make them skippable.

The story is just "I'm 14 and this is deep" kinda **** I gave less than a **** about the protagonist, and the games machinic of holding her pregnant belly every 5 minute just became more annoying the longer I played. I've played the game once, and I barley remember the storyline at all. The only thing I remember is that I swore to myself that I'd NEVER revisit this piece of trash, no matter what.

All in all, if I could give this game -10 point, I would've. Sure, they took a chance to make something - sadly they failed like running head-first into a concrete wall.

I've watched many of Thomas Grip's [game director] presentation where he talks about his [and Frictional Games] approach to making games - and with this game, it's like he took all the things he seems to have learned over the years he's been a developed, and just threw them out the window.

I'm immensely disappointed with Frictional Games by this release, and I thought that FG would always be the masters of their craft. I guess I was wrong.

The main protagonist also has a tendency to talk way too much for a horror game.

So if you have a horror itch to scratch - it's not expensive and it is good enough to finish. But in the end it's quite forgettable and feels too mediocre to care in the long run.

However the art style and design is interesting (like Amnesia 1 (A1) )and so is the horror theme which originates from A1 -which is what makes this game really worth while. In thinking about the game , like A1, I have definitely compared Evil within 1's art direction with this - their use of colour and their varied environments; which is good.

I will add though that the Horror (best part of the horror)on this is very much as Soma and A1 was : it was very cerebral.

Against this , many levels did look very unusual and others look very provocative and a bit scary as did some of A1 - Frictional do still have their magic.

The story is the key take-away from Amnesia 3, and it sure is different, given the the person you play as and all the unusual things that come with it - I consider myself to be the last person who would appreciate this - but I stuck with it and though I am definitely adverse to a character blabbering on to herself every 2 minutes, this was not bad - again it helps the narrative and I learnt things from participating in it; I did appreciate it. However, it does take some time to get to a decent pace I think, with the later part of the game definitely being more interesting.

The design too therefore was very good. Frictional show they are miles ahead of Chinese room at least , with creativity that connects clearly and with some depth to the story and redefine what you think about various entities, but almost introduce other ways with which to engage you. this is evident with the interaction with the protagonist, but also with the narrative and the really interesting (environmental) settings, along with their colour palates. Also a lot of the stuff from A1 is not forgotten either.

The art is good - across the board - the content is imaginative, but not out of place. I find the music and ambience has been watered down, and often is just a sound that 'seems to work' set against a few other sounds which then repeats. However, late game a lot of this does improve a little, with some pieces sounding like you could sit there and listen to it and enjoy it.

It's also really good to have meaningful choices that actually get registered on this too - I have played this once, so maybe I don't know how meaningful they are truly; but it is pretty good as I see it.

I will add also the chases are vastly watered down , not happening often at all and I found the lighting mechanic has gotten worse to the point of annoyance on this, I think maybe they need to balance it... I'm not sure - to play with something you cannot choose to use (on your first play through at least) is a positive annoyance -i.e if you've run out then what are you meant to do?!! Not to mention the complete 'lack of meaning' of 'death' which sees you running off - I cant say if you are rewarded for not 'dying' in this way.

All in all then Frictional are forgiven for hauling off number 2 to the slaughter house on my account. I think I will replay Amnesia 1 next week in fact!

Immerse yourself." says the first screen when you boot the game. But you can't immerse yourself when the character keeps talking, comments on every single thing and especially when the game takes the control away from the player. It tries to be too cinematic.

The flashing images and startling jumpscares are annoying. I did not expect this from a company like Frictional Games.

I loved the first game. I loved SOMA. Both of them had amazing first impressions on me. This game does not. References to the first game are amazing but that's about the only positive thing I can think of right now... Matches also run out WAY too quickly, though the developers are planning to patch this, so don't mind this last part if it gets better with subsequent patches.

The game expects you to care about its characters. How does it do this? "You are this woman. This is your husband. These are your crewmates. You care about them. You do." No. I do not care about them. The protagonist does. The game wants me to find them. To learn what happened to them. I don't want this. The protagonist does. This is not the correct way to make the player care about characters.

Also, the 60 FPS cap. While it does get tolerable after a while, this is not acceptable for a PC release in 2020. You "technically" can remove the cap, but it does not give you more frames, it doubles the frames you get, which results in a very stuttery experience.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. So comparing the game with the first Amnesia The Dark Descent I would rate it 7 out of 10.

First of all: I love the Amnesia franchise and the games from frictional games in general. Awesome horror flair with a dark gritty atmosphere.

Reason for the rating is that I actually hoped for some more innovation after Amnesia 1 and Soma. Story telling was strong but there were many side stories from other characters left open.

A gameplay mechanic was really annoying. First I liked it and was frigthened. The "ghost" searching for you in the second half of the game. But that really pissed me off when they always come back check and sometimes detect me while behind cover. It was a bit too much and I lost the "oh **** I need to hide im scared" feeling which got replaced by "cmon.. HOW?"

The endings were not as satisfiying as I hoped but those are the amnesia endings we knew by earlier titles. Many unanswered questions and much room for speculations.

Checking for the baby every 2 minutes was annoying too at some point and the talking by Tasi could be a bit less. It destroys the feeling that we actually are the person we play.

Aside all the negative aspects I really enjoyed the game and I liked the connection to the first amnesia. The side notes about Alexander, Herbert and Weyer. I also liked the puzzles. I felt they were easier than in Amnesia 1 but thats just because I already know the puzzle mechanics from the first game which were somewhat identical. I also liked the idea of playing a woman being pregnant which makes sense for the story and it was awesome to see how the story continued. Learning more about the reason why people get tortured and whats the reason behind all this.

A solid new title. I really hope there will be more in the future with more innovative gameplay mechanics and even deeper story telling.

At the time of this review, the game has the WORST optimization (which I'm not factoring in my rating). No. I'm not some guy with a bad computer venting his rage to make myself feel better. I can play Doom Eternal with max settings, so this game having choking, crappy framerate in an empty cave while I'm looking at the ground at low settings is a problem. The story is... passable, but nothing great, and it feels uninspired in some places and awkwardly stitched together.

The gameplay is the biggest negative for me. The first Amnesia had an amazing atmosphere and everything else in the game worked off of it so beautifully, which is why that game is my favorite horror game ever, and may stay that way for some time. Rebirth's horror element is just horribly lazy, and everything about it just feels rushed and boring. I kept saying to myself, "Please, something scare me already." And... that didn't seem to happen very often. The characters in the game might as well be name-dropped cardboard cutouts, because you'll never find yourself remembering or caring about ANY of them, 80% of them have no development whatsoever. The game has flashback sequences, but are hardly interesting in the slightest.

The horror element is watered down beyond words. And the "fear" mechanic comes off like something that wasn't balanced very well. You'll be standing one step away from a lit area and and the player character panics like a child. The "sanity" mechanic in the first game added more fear to an amazingly scary game, Rebirth's fear mechanic is just uninteresting and obnoxious, and it even leads to idiotic WASD button mashing. Just... no.

The game's endings also blow hard. You're just stuck sitting there thinking, "Uhh, that's it..? Well, there goes my $30!" It's worth $20 at most. 6/10, the game overall feels like a lazy DLC with a massive amount of missed opportunities. I'm so sorry Frictional, I wanted to love this game, but I don't.

We got a great sequel. This game is an explorational horror game focusing on story and immersion, therefore it's completely okay, if there are not many chases. I think it nailed the immersion perfectly at least for me, but the monster AI is not greatest lets just say that. It improved on a lot of points compared to the first game, but also regressed in some ways.

This game is too safe and too conservative. I mean it's not a bad game by any mean, it really could scare in some point, and plot is pretty ok. But Frictional Games really need a fresh ideas, bigger budget and new game engine, becouse formula on those games really run out. Time for changes!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Gameplay-wise it's like SOMA with some minor improvements here and there. It's heavily focused on characters and storytelling, with horror taking a back seat. And herein lies the problem. SOMA's story is intriguing and thought provoking, making you question the nature of consciousness and what exactly makes a human. SOMA's gameplay and horror elements don't have to be great, because the story itself easily justifies playing it. The same cannot be said for Amnesia: Rebirth.

While I greatly enjoyed exploring the Otherworld, the lore surrounding it and callbacks to Weyer, Agrippa, Alexander and Herbert, the main storyline itself is pretty mediocre and very telegraphed. At one point in the early stages you find a note saying that the empress of the Otherworld is barren and dying, and from that you can easily guess the rest of the story. It was so obvious in fact, that I thought it was a misdirection, but no. I enjoyed the characters, but they weren't really anything special and certainly not enough to carry the story on their own.

But the biggest problem with Rebirth is the fact that it's not really all that scary. I replayed The Dark Descent in the week leading up to the release and it was still terrifying, barring the few jump scares I remembered from previous playthroughs. Rebirth just doesn't scare me on that level. Even the French Fort, the area which I would consider to be the scariest in the game still can't even come close to the heights of the Choir, Prison or even the Storage from TDD. Monster encounters in Rebirth are heavily scripted, and require minimal player input since most of the time you either have to hide in the only hiding place around or just run away. In TDD the encounters required much more player input and were more dangerous overall. Even the later patrolling enemies don't kill or chase you, just stare at you menacingly. You need to complete a QTE to get free, after which they lose interest and continue to patrol. Compare that to sneaking around the Brute in the Choir.

That being said, if you played The Dark Descent and enjoyed the main story and lore, I would still recommend Rebirth. It gives a lot of context to many plotpoints and characters from the original and expands the lore even further. And if you haven't played it, just do, it doesn't show its age and it's a much better horror game than Rebirth.

There's so much to this game and obviously I won't spoil anything. It starts off a bit slow, which might turn some people away. I love that it takes its time to slowly pull you in, deeper and deeper.
It's NOT an instant scream-a-thon, so don't go in expecting that. It's a lot more intelligent than that. Don't get me wrong though - there's plenty of scary parts, absolutely! But it's just as much about the story (and who said that can't be scary? It is).

It also binds itself to Amnesia: The Dark Descent. You'll notice things here and there and go "Oh, I remember that". Really cool.

It isn’t as scary as Amnesia, and it isn’t as epic or profound as SOMA, but it has an emotional core that no game by Frictional has ever achieved thus far.

Instead of going into this expecting exactly what TDD gave you, take it for what it actually is and judge it on its own merits.

Enemy designs are pretty uninspired especially compared to the gatherers and the brutes from TDD which is a real shame.

    Likeable main character
Innovative concept for a horror game
Difficult moral dilemmas at the climax of the story

Next, is the return of the inventory system from The Dark Descent, this was removed on A Machine for Pigs to have a more immersive experience but I'm also glad it was brought back. Anyway, the game also sets a century after the first game, and lots of returning entities and Easter Eggs (from the first game) can be found in the game. It was a fanboying experience when you asked me. Too bad it doesn't have a memorable soundtrack like A Machine for Pigs but I had a blast completing it.

So, if you are a kind of person who loves to explore the world-building within the Amnesia universe then this game is for you, and yeah just don't expect much.

Amnesia Rebirth is definitely a worthy successor to Amnesia: The Dark Descent which is widely considered to be the best horror game of all time.

Everything graphical about Rebirth is of course better then the Dark Descent but still worth addressing. The lighting in Rebirth is one of the best I've ever seen in a game and especially a horror game, making the game really immersive. It's really dark when it needs to be requiring you to use your light sources. If you've played recent games then you know that Rebirth doesn't have the best graphics on the market, but is totally fine when dealing with a game like this. The immersion and lighting is what matters most and it's done to perfection. The monsters are also incredibly scary, with most of that fright being associated with the sound design, something that Frictional Games have always been experts at. The soundtrack is also amazing and really adds to the immersion.

The gameplay is pretty similar to the Dark Descent however now you can pick up matches instead of tinderboxes to light up surrounding candles, lamps and torches. This is a much better game mechanic than the tinderboxes from the Dark Descent which I barely used. The game is also careful to give you enough light source that you can survive but never enough so that you feel comfortable. And while we're at it if you stay in the dark for too long Tasi (the main character) will start to go crazy so you need to stay in the light as much as you can, which can be quite difficult when a monster is lurking around. Monsters work pretty much the same as in the Dark Descent however because now you have a full body they can see you easier. There are also a lot of puzzles which are pretty clever and creative but they were never too difficult that it felt tedious. Of course there also some problems mainly with the physics. You can get stuck pretty easily, items can sometimes disappear and dialogue can be cut if you go to a specific place or if you play quite fast. These problems do not ruin the experience of Rebirth but still drag the game down a little. A lot of people seem to say the main character talking ruins the immersion but I can't disagree more, she typically talks when nothing frightening for the player is happening, and for me I think it made it more immersive for her to talk. Just my opinion though.

The story is the most interesting from Rebirth, because it's much more complex than from the Dark Descent, but is still a direct sequel. We're in the place where Daniel found the orb, we also get a lot of notes referencing Brennenburg Castle, which is the location of the Dark Descent, and we also get notes referencing Professor Herbert which is a character known from the Dark Descent. I won't go into details about the story because of spoilers but note that it's pretty complex and a lot of people probably won't get it and think it's bad for that reason. I can promise you if you actually look into the story of Rebirth it's very dark and excellently crafted.

Overall, I had a great time with Amnesia: Rebirth and although I found the Dark Descent scarier overall, Rebirth has a much better story if you want to invest time into understanding what it's all about. I feel like the gameplay has been improved upon slightly but nothing can beat the haunting halls of the Brennenburg Castle from the Dark Descent. Despite everything I've said, I think Amnesia: Rebirth is a well worthy sequel to one of the best horror games ever made and I look forward to what more Frictional Games has in store for us.

Its graphics are definitely not graphics you see everyday on horror games making it one of the most immersive horror experiences out there if not the most immersive once combined with its extremely detailed and well done locations, sounds and lighting.

Additionally, the games new slate of monsters mostly achieve what they set out to do extremely well and require some level of speed and intelligence to escape/beat. One of the highlights of the game is its chase set pieces which keeps you captivated and tense all the way through with a real feeling of fear and danger within the players as they try to escape. The games puzzles are also pretty good although they don't do much for me since I'm not really a sucker for puzzles... (they do give u some time to breath which is often welcome since the game itself can some incredible fast paced tense moments with little to no breathing time).

The plot is a well made expansion of the universe we got to learn about in The Dark Descent. The characters are for the most part well-written, with clear motivations and goals and thankfully the game does not make them act like complete morons, they're quite smart for the most part but at the end of the day I didn't end up really caring for them. Voice acting isn't the best in the world but it is certainly good.

Overall, Amnesia: Rebirth is a great continuation and expansion of the Amnesia universe with incredible atmosphere, otherworldly immersion a good story and good scares/tension/adrenaline. A worthy sequel that isn't as good as its predecessor but it's definitely worth playing.

Po pierwsze bohaterka komentuje wszystko i non stop. "Oh! Kamień spadł!" "Ojeju trup" "O nie jak tam dotrę?" Pełno jej jęków, **** i oh my godów.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Nope. If you're a fan of Amnesia the dark descent, this game is not for you. Dreadful "sequel" that had plenty of red flags in the trailer and here you see them light as day. I'm going to do a pros and cons for this one.

    Pros:
    Pretty good story.
Brings up some topics from the original game.
    Great world building.
    Really unsettling atmosphere.
    AWESOME concepts.
    Pretty good puzzles.

    Cons:
-You're never actually challenged. This is not a video game. It's a movie.
-Dying to monsters teleports you to the end of the segment, allowing you to skip them. Great.
-Gameplay is halted all the time with exposition.
-Your character talks. And oh boy does she talk. She will spoil puzzles and make remarks during exploration, monster encounters and cutscenes. You're essentially watching a movie but you're in control of the main character.
-Awful monster designs and way too few encounters.
-Every encounter is scripted with the exception of two.. TWO!?
-Worst con of them all: builds up amazing and horrifying atmosphere only to present you with nothing. They trick you into thinking that you'll be faced with danger but you never will.

I give a 4/10 because it's good as an interactive movie, but absolutely dreadful as a game. If this is the new standard, Frictional.. I am no longer interested in your future projects.

Simplesmente perfeito, extremamente recomendado!

Frictional Games are masters at telling innately human stories through the use of horror and environmental exploration, Amnesia: Rebirth is no exception. There are frustrating elements, some design is still very akin to the 2010 original, ehich is both good and bad. The light source mechanics can be frustrating, but it helps with the atmosphere to a certain degree. Monster design felt a bit generic, yet still terrifying with how it was dealt with. The game is another hit. Expand

Great game. A complex story with scary enemies and a overall feeling of dread. More like SOMA than the first Amnesia and that is a good thing imo. The only downside would be the puzzles, some of them are obtuse and even if they aren't they drag you out of the immersion needed to maintain the horror element of the game

A lot of the criticisms stem from the protagonists expressed concern

Maps are forgettable and very confusing, specially when u arrive at this kind of Citadel. Plot and characters never caught my eye (I can't really judge this, as I stopped playing after 2 hours or so). Expand

Game is full of jumpscares. I don't even need to continue as this alone is such a massive step down from Frictional's previous games and it's a betrayal of what made The Dark Descent so well liked in the first place, but I'll continue anyways.

Protagonist won't shut the hell up, she commentates everything to an obnoxious degree to the point she's yelling to run away when there's no one

World building is terrible, story is awful, Tasi Triananon is incredibly unlikable and a horrible person, the monsters are a joke, the endings all suck. Don't buy this game.

Boring characters and too many holes in story. Everything else was just confusing, like the wrist thing. Not enough puzzles and existing ones were too easy and stupid. Too confusing and immersion was not there, not worth money and your time.

Amnesia: Rebirth is a work of mastery, and as such it reflects the artistic ability of the developers as well as their mental schemes. It has one main problem: It comes as an indirect sequel of a legendary game, The Dark Descent. In this sense, making a hit is always both a benediction and a curse, as all the titles Frictional made and will make after it will be compared to it.

It has one main problem: It comes as an indirect sequel of a legendary game, The Dark Descent. In this sense, making a hit is always both a benediction and a curse, as all the titles Frictional made and will make after it will be compared to it.

Rebirth expands the Amnesia universe by directly projecting the players into the unknown that in the Dark Descent was only suggested to imagination, and it does it very, very well. During the entire story, it's inevitable to feel a sense of hope in contrast with a growing feeling of desperation.

    The Good:
    - Wonderfully designed in every aspect.
    - Great story that drags into a storm of emotions and doubts.
    - Superb voice acting and well crafted dialogues.
    - Immersion is well achieved.
    - Frightening. Not as much as other Frictional's games, but a must for horror enthusiasts.

    The Bad:
    - Some enemy encounters feel frustrating and unfair.
    - Dealing with enemies is much less interesting than in other Frictional games.

P.S.: Amnesia: Rebirth is great, but it reflects the modern times' tendency to exasperate and exaggerate things a little too much, with a partial loss of the beauty that older games have.

Sadly, Rebirth falls back on the lamest horror cliches: walking through endless dark hallways, enemies that are basically zombies, spooky images popping out of nowhere. The puzzles are very mundane and frustrating. For example, in one area I couldn't figure out how to progress; the solution was to pick up an object in a dark room that didn't look like it could be picked up and use that. It's never very clear what details in your surroundings are important. The main gameplay mechanic is collecting matches to activate light fixtures, so the protagonist doesn't get too "scared." But unlike real life, you can't use a light source that's already burning to light other light sources. There's also a lantern, but it runs out of oil so quickly and its light is dimmer than a single lit match. So it quickly feels very silly and contrived. The game is fairly immersive, and the voice acting is great. It's just so monotonous to actually play. And as a final slap in the face, you'll probably get the "bad" ending unless you have fore knowledge of what you're supposed to actually do.

If you're curious about this game, just watch it on youtube; it's one of the worst games I've ever played to completion.

    Playtime: About 10 hours
    + Tension buildup
+ Mix between horror and puzzle moments (and the combination of them) is successful
    - Sometimes the game has trouble keeping the framerate up / resource intensive
    - If you die, it takes way too long until you can play again / long revive process

There's always a palpable underlying tension as painful memories and tragedies blend with the protagonist's harrowing journey. Her gradual and slow transformation and acceptance of her fate are believable and well-crafted. The characters are well-written, and perhaps the only jarring element is the protagonist's excessive talking.
Certainly, it has its limitations in gameplay and not-so-challenging puzzles, often leaning towards a walking simulator. Nevertheless, it remains a well-crafted product with a top-notch artistic level.

To begin with, the game is not that bad with a kinda well written story, the main problem though is the introduction, which is very long, until the moment you get to the castle and have most of the action begin I was already dead bored. Moreover, having the character talking every now and then makes it less scary.

I can't just understand how there are people rating this game with more than 5 points... It is completely incomprehensible how Frictional Games, which has developed masterpieces like SOMA, penumbra and the dark descent, has created this aberration.

All the characters feel unreal and stupid, I would say that it is impossible to empathize with any of them and Tasi is a non-personality and cliche character. The flashbacks are ABSURDLY annoying and repetitives, In some moments of the game there is a gap of FIVE seconds between flashbacks and of course, TASI WILL NOT SHUT UP IN THE WHOLE GAME It's ridiculous how constantly the dialogues take you out of the little immersion that the game itself has.
I would like to point out how quickly the matches run out, about 4-6 SECONDS. But there seems to be an alternative... AN OIL LAMP. That is what I thought, but i was completely wrong. THE STUPID LAMP WILL RUN OUT APPROXIMATELY IN 1-2 MINUTES.
I consider that the mechanics are too old now and they do not make sense, I mean, are you telling me that I can throw away a ENORMOUS BARREL BUT I CANNOT TAKE A CANDLE WTF????
And the "good final" closes extremely bad in my opinion.
The only good thing about this game are the puzzles (they are worse than amensia the dark descent though)
To sum up: If you want to get bored play this game, you can't just enjoy the "plot" with the constants flashbacks and the non-sense characters, some parts are not intuitive at all and you cannot figure out how to progress however the puzzle are not so bad

First and foremost, Amnesia: Rebirth is an intriguing, well told story about grief, loss, dying hope and terrifying solitude. Beneath the skillfully laid out narrative you’ll also find a good horror game, though its ingredients feel a bit too familiar for Rebirth to be as scary as the first Amnesia. [13/2020, p.44]

Fitting my thoughts on Amnesia: Rebirth in a single paragraph feels like an impossible task. It’s an effective character-driven narrative with forgettable characters; a tense horror game with a distinct lack of horror. Rebirth is exactly what the developers set out to create, which was not the Dark Descent clone that some people were hoping for.
